PEAM # 59- 5/30/13- On Christmas Eve- My True Love Gave to Me- Seven TV Novelas, Four Facial Expressions, One Romantic Letter and Thought Bubbles of You Kissing Me.
Labels: Manda
Esta noche es noche buena y mañana navidad!
What we saw was another commercial for the furniture store FAMSA (the one whose Logo has been pixelated when we see Valentina hugging meloso during the intro). We will see another one later on, when Verónica places a bucket full of Payaso lollipops, when according to my memory, in that house candy was not allowed. Or coffee, or meat, or alcohol, juárever...
First we hear CAMPANA SOBRE CAMPANA and later on LA MARIMORENA. For some reason the one with the drinking fish in the river is the favorite and they play it more often.
I am happy to see Mrs Tixou as Genoveva, Oliverio's mom.
I think I saw something furry (Attention Peta!) as a gift to Chatita. He said chalina (but chalina is something lacey to cover your head while praying) so I think it is more like a little coat or a sweater. Angora maybe?
Valentina shouldn't have been allowed to open the gifts before Santa ''arrived through the chimney at midnight''. She should have opened them early next morning...
Besides, why was she jumping so much and so excited? Is it too much candy? Payaso kicking in?
Sebastian actually needed whitening toothpaste and a new hair implant, but juárever, two ties will do!!
Between all this flashbacks and all those fantasy thoughts, is there any room left for the story to move on?
Rogelio is not kissing Alma often enough. She will never be able to erase Jesús kisses from her memory because those are the only ones she has received lately... and very often!! How can you forget something like that?
The thing with the televisions and the TN was totally unexpected to me. I am glad they mislead us even tnoight when Oliverio was about to take Jéssica's blindfold off, getting closer and closer like he was going to choke her... Nice surprise...
After Rina, Rosa salvaje, Simplemente María, Teresa y Rubí/Diana Salazar, I got a glimpse of Victoria, Juana Iris and Bianca Vidal...
I liked the new Xóchitl, who besides cooking, stand up to her mother. That turkey with pineapple and cherries looked more like a cake, but that didn't stop mother from wasting it on the floor!!
Chatita also had a chicken with strawberries. I wonder if that's another family tradition like the chestnuts...
Then the Hospital's cafeteria... C'mon! With the chef and everything!! I am sure that specific Hospital doesn't have a cafeteria like that. Maybe not even the more expensive ones do...
That Hospital is for hard working people who die on the spot because doctors and nurses are negligent and use the same aspirin based medicine for everything!! And I know because I used to go there as a patient. I don't know why Osorio wants to alter the reality so much!
With all the money Sebastian had back then when he was young and a cheater, why did he end up in this Hospital anyway? I mean, he was broke but Rogelio was covering all his expenses, why Rogelio didn't take him to another place in their economic level? In this case, more expensive means better service!!
You're right. Patricia shouldn't be complaining. I can almost hear the Jerry Springer headline: Help! My lover is cheating on me with his wife!!
Did Discua wink? I think I missed it.
Thanks so much for this wonderful recap.
I loved your line about the Ice Queen Melting, it brought back images of the Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch of the West that was melting when the house hit her, lol. Vero even got tequila for Chucho, who knew, lol.
What Ricardo and Cardenas did was so sweet. Inviting Jess to meet his mother and Ricardo writing such a sweet letter. Also that nice visit of Julio to Xochi, how sweet was that? Too bad Maricela was so rude and Xochi's mother was rude also. I think what Xochi made was actually a ham, with pineapple and cherries. Too bad it ended up on the floor. I love bacala! I had it in Italy at Christmas and it's wonderful!
Rogue gets his future FIL a couple of ties??? Really???? How cheap, but then again he did lose all that money at the bodega.
Patymelt is getting exactly what Karma dished out to her, and had to laugh at Pablo's remark about the Jerry Springer, lol.
Yes, Bisqua, Disco, er Discua did wink at Ferny as she was telling him goodbye just before she walked off. I wonder if this is the last we will see of her?
Those Christmas lights are Vero's were eye closing. I swear I couldn't look at them too many of them moved in opposite directions. It would give you brain freeze to keep looking at them.
I am so glad that Valentina loved Chucho's present and the story she told, take that Elias! He way over spent and I too wonder where he got all the money for these presents. I am glad too that Marta cut ties with Vero as far as the therapy for her goes. But we know why she did that, don't we?
Cardenas's obsession is TVs? TVs? What a funny and unexpected turn of events. A writer with some imagination...who knew?
Pablo, I was wondering which store had been bleeped out. Thanks for the reveal. Believe me, the U.S. has nothing over Mexico when it comes to be big mega-stores.
Thanks again TJ. Your title is one of the all-time greats. I love how you recappers are really playing off one another and continuing the theme with your titles.
At least Sebastián let Rogelio have it over Paty. It is still so sad that he isn't thinking of his daughter in the midst of the infidelity. Maybe he is the one who brainwashed her into believing she has to marry Rogelio no matter what. Maybe Rogelio is more like he was in his younger days. Who knows?
Pablo, I first thought the "chalina" was a furry kind of wrap/shawl but I think I saw sleeves. Anyway it looked cozy and warm.
Who knew Xochi was paying the rent? I was glad she finally stood up to her mother. Julio dancing like a dolphin and whale was something else.
All in all a pretty entertaining episode. Let us see what Christmas Day holds!
Jarifa
Yeah to Xochi finally standing up for herself. I think she should have given her mother some sessions with Dr. Marta. Maybe, just maybe, we are now going to see a new and stronger Xochi. About time. Let the transformation begin.
So, I like Cardie's mother and she seems sweet. But the TV reveal? So it was slightly weird, but I was lost on why we saw all those scenes of welding, etc. Beanie being adjusted...
Anyone else going to be glad not to see the Happy Mansion Christmas scenes. My heart goes to the actors who had to deal with those blasted lights while filming. Felt a little bad for Elias. He's trying way to hard and I think he finally got it that he's not winning this battle. (Or at least I hope so). But dear lord, hopefully this won't send him to the temporary arms of Marisela. Blech on that!
I'm done with Discua. Do not understand her attitude. Hopefully Ferny won't go back to old behavior.
Daisy
Such a sparkling recap and I love how all your recappers are throwing in "Sounds better in Spanish" as a punch line.
My other favorite was:
"If it's that pencil pusher from her job, he can go down another chimney."
Excellent! Although I always hate seeing food thrown to the floor. Chronic housewife anxiety here. Xochi's mom clearly has anger management issues. Perhaps a session or two with Marta might help.
Missed the first 20 minutes of this, so especially appreciative of your witty, well-organized recap. Thanks TJ.
Ofcourse Alma was the "plane jane" of them all. Jessy rocked the blue form fitting dress, same as Discua in red, and her "twin" Martha who could have circulation cut off because her dress was so tight.
As for Ferny, he needs to stop begging Discua, he's coming off as a weak man....Eli needs to stop too. Nobody wants a whimpy man.

The story didn't move forward one bit, but that's par for the course in American soaps. Everybody stops the feuding around Christmas and they party hardy together.
Cardenas TV novias. I liked how he paired up each tv set with a particular heroine's attributes and personalities. He was talking too fast, but it was oh, so clever. He's melded his loneliness around the female leads in these novelas with the physical sets themselves and entertained himself in a non-perverted way. So, he's a mama's boy, but doesn't have it as bad as Susanito or Rodrigo over on QBA.
I was surprised by the furry thing Jucho gave Chatita. Who needs a fur anything in Monterrey? Pablo? Anyone? Granted old folks feel the cold more, but Chatita is an active older person and carries around her own layers of warmth.
Christmas at Vero's. Every little child's dream. That's how you create the *ME* generation of entitled kids, boost consumerism and help the economy grow. And Vale was expecting even more from Santa the next day?
I'm beginning to like Xochi more. She's lost the whiny, infantile exhibitionist self and becoming a dependable, more self-confident young lady. I would have loved to see Julio strip out of his Santa suit and really treated us to some moves.
Xochi's change can really be laid at Jucho's feet. She realized that a broken heart can at least be patched up (unlike Sebastian's). Has Jucho done *anything* wrong yet, to anybody? I think he's even going to give Rogue a chance to come clean and reform himself -- before he goes to jail, of course.
@Lee Fox--Are you in the DC Metro region? (I was a confirmed fan of the old Senators....) Anyway, Vivi and I are thinking about a reunion of Carayers, well, it would have to be a 1st time union to meet each other sometime in the fall. There are at least 6 of us.
There was another blogger here that lived in the Metro Richmond area....but they signed in as anonymous. I am in Henrico Co. they live in Hanover Co. (next door)
Here is my e-mail; leefox201@gmail.com we should all get together at a Nats game...(The new stadium is very nice, and affordable, unlike a Redskin game at FedEx Field)
Boy, am I falling behind on my viewing... I guess I'll be spending half the weekend in front of the TV. (Not technically an antigue... however, I did have an old TV that would sometimes turn itself on or off on really humid days.)
Say, do we know if Chucho ever paid off the debt on his place? A while back the bank said if it wasn't paid down soon they'd kick him out and seize his stuff. I'm sure the bank doesn't care WHO pays it, whether it's Chucho or the real owner, as long as they get the money.
LOL!
LOL!
I meant IMPORTANT...
I didn't mean to flood the page with one comment. I will have to blame the Captcha lady, who gave me a new set of words arguing that the previous ones were incorrect... can you believe it? She talking about correctness, when the words she make up can't be used anywhere, well, maybe scrabble, but that's it...
I know what CANTO is, but ''emsivel''?
I'm really enjoying how much they're getting into the holidays. The decorations and music are so much fun. Plus, that food looked DELICIOUS, especially at Chatita's. Although Xochi's ham also looked tasty before Psychomom chucked it on the floor.
The Telenovias bit was entertaining. I didn't see that coming! Jess should really hang out there and watch Teresa--I think she'd find a certain mariachi very appealing!
I also cracked up when Juicy opened the microwave and said "now *everything* in this apartment will be hot!" Yeah, yeah. We all know it; you don't have to flatter yourself ;).

Alma's Christmas was just as sad and drab as all her other days. Wish she had gone to Chatita's. Better there than in the hospital cafeteria with Rogue. His present was very sweet though. Way to go Sebastian. Chucho's present was nice too, I guess. But all I kept thinking is that he gave her a paper airplane with a gold ribbon on it. And then he took off the ribbon and it was just a plain white paper airplane! :)
The Telenovias (literally) was a funny surprise. I certainly was not expecting that. Cardenas' mom is very sweet and really likes Jess. That's a really good sign, if anything ever gets started between Jess and Cardenas.
I really thought Biscuit would give in and believe Fern, but maybe this was a limited appearance for Ninel Conde? In any case, I'm annoyed with her.
Yay for Xochi! I hope this is the beginning of many changes to come.
Lee Fox, I graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond.
Pablo: my first thought when I was Vale jumping manically on the bed: SUGAR RUSH!!!!
I was thinking the same thing about the hospital, but just assumed they moved him to a nicer one. I remember seeing some clips from that Dianna Salazar TN on the villains special. Looked interesting.
I though Cardenas’ mother was kinda creepy. She reminded me of a villain in a 1970s TV movie that starred Leonard Nimoy and Susan Hampshire (I love SH).
Madelaine: Flaco thinks Discua might not appear again because the actor is really a singer and might be doing concerts. It’s just an opinion, he didn’t actually research it or anything.
Wondered why Chatita would be talking smack that had to be censored. Now I get it. Thanks.
Jarifia: would be interested to know your opinion about the editing on the PESE DVD when your finished watching it.
Nanette
Since father is getting the attention he needs (yerba mala nunca muere), I wouldn't cancel or postpone the wedding. What I would skip is the honeymoon, for when father is discharged. Anyway, he'll be in the same place when we come back. Right?
Being with him all the time is not going to restore his health, is it?
Jarifa
Vivi, it's hot here too, but at least we are not getting the severe weather....Yet
