Qué Bonito Amor #24 (Mex 35.2-36) Thursday 5/16/13 Que Bonita Fiesta…not!
Redheaded mean girl calls Ay Jalisco and talks to Mirna to set up the serenate ambush for the evening. It's gonna be pricey, but Elvira's willing to pay the price. Mr. 5ft walked through when the Mean Girls were squealing and jumping up and down. He asked if they won Justin Bieber tickets. Yes, dear, because women only get that excited at the prospect of Justin Bieber, clearance sales, and revenge. Aw, crap, ladies, he may have a point. Tomorrow, when we balance our checkbooks and there's still money left over after paying all the bills on time (crossing my fingers on that one) let's all jump up and down and squeal, ok?
Maria cleans JAntos up a bit and tells him he'd better choose between his love of fighting with Oscar and his love of her, cause one more fight and it is OVER. I don't think we believe that any more than he does. Amalia comes in and asks QTH is going on--she heard from Mancia they were fighting outside. JAntos avoids answering the question by asking if she's able to see again. Amalia says it's thanks to him…and don't change the subject! JAntos starts to justify the fight, but Amalia won't tolerate him and Oscar causing scenes. JAntos apologizes and promises it won't happen again. Amalia says if it does, he won't be welcome in the house. Maria backs him up on that. Then she says that's guys for you, they just don't get it. On behalf of guys,...hey! Just cause these two are acting like a couple of idiots doesn't mean all guys are like that!
Mirna accosts Ponytail Mariachi and tries to light his fire. He's a fan of extreme sports and fresh air, and he can flex one pec in a way that makes it look like his heart's beating out of his chest. That's somewhere between cool and creepy. They go get some tacos. And suck face over their tacos.
Concho and Lourdes just happen to go to the same taco joint. Lourdes needles him about his lover having a new little toy. Concho's too busy perusing the menu to pay attention. Lourdes just keeps enjoying the floor show.
In LA, Altagracia is having serious doubts about Wendy's upcoming wedding. She figures they'll lose her anyway, but she's not going to participate in the farce. Wendy walks in with Bruno, who tries to make small talk. Bruno tells them he had nothing to do with the money laundering and it must suck to have a son who's a criminal…Justo and Altagracia both object, so Bruno and Wendy leave.
The Mean Girls are waiting for the mariachis, who are running late. Just when they're about to call Mirna, the buzzer sounds. They tell the doorman to let them come up. Milamores asks to speak directly to the lady in question…to find out what songs she wants to hear. He hangs up the phone, looking suspicious and murmurs, "That voice…." They're going to start out with "La Negra" and then the guests will treat them like a jukebox. When Elvira answers the door, Milamores asks QTH is going on. She welcomes them all in and one of the Moustache Mariachis and the brunette Mean Girl make googly eyes at each other.
Maria goes over to Gloria's to check up on her. Gloria's glad she found Oscar, but she needs to get him to accept that Rodrigo's his son. Sexist drivel about women becoming women when they have children, but it's not the same for guys. Gloria gets a massively nasty headache and Maria goes to get her medication.
Redheaded Mean Girl tells the guys if they don't stay and party they won't get paid. Oscar says they're professionals and they need to money. Elvira puts on some music while they eat and drink.
Maria is determined to get Colosso to take responsibility for his kid. She won't stop until he does it. Maria leaves Gloria nursing her headache and goes to track down Colosso.
Brunette Mean Girl notices that JAntos isn't having a very good time. She pressures Moustache Mariachi into convincing JAntos to play along, saying he's ruining their fun and if he goes, they'll all have to go, and therefore no one will get paid. Moustache Mariachi goes over and tells JAntos to chill, not because he doesn't think Maria will find out, but because when she does, he, Milamores, and Susanito will all vouch for him. He begs him to relax. JAntos just doesn't want to be with Elvira. "If we're not going to sing, then I'd rather leave." MM says he needs the money for his kids and when is he going to get the chance to party in a place like this, with chicks like this, etc. He hands JAntos a bottle. Elvira comes smarming up saying she'll serve him. Listen, lady, I remember what happened the last time you and your friends were serving the drinks, and NO! JAntos is more polite than I am and puts down the bottle.
Maria arrives at the building and tells the doorman she's looking for the mariachis. He calls upstairs, panicking Elvira and the redhead into thinking it's one of their mothers. They're about to have the doorman tell her to take a hike when redhead wonders if maybe Oscar invited her. Elvira figures it must be some kind of plan, so they tell the doorman to send her up. Maria doesn't really want to go up, she was hoping Oscar would come down, but she agrees. Redhead and Elvira plan to open the door when Elvira's in JAntos' lap.
She goes to talk to him and tell him his attitude towards her is unfair. When Maria rings the doorbell, Elvira pins him to the couch, sitting in his lap and saying she won't move until he says he's not angry at her. Seeing Maria's shocked face, JAntos stands up and throws her into Ponytail Mariachi's lap…ha! But Maria is already teary eyed and upset. She says she's not looking for him anyway, she's looking for Oscar. Elvira says they're just hanging out, having a good time, and Maria should be used to that anyway. Maria, for all her talk about how she hates violence, smacks Elvira across the face. JAntos tries to calm her down, but Maria shakes him off and tells Oscar to get his ass out of there, it's a matter of life or death! She refuses to explain at the door and she refuses to listen to JAntos. She also refuses to let him go with them. Oscar tells the guys not to wait up for them and walks out with Maria. JAntos ends up leaving as well, with Milamores and Susanito in tow. By the time he gets downstairs, they've gone. Elvira tells JAntos he can't leave without saying goodbye. "I'd love to say goodbye to you forever, but I can't get you to leave me alone!" Elvira claims she's only tried to help him meet people with money, unlike the riff-raff in the barrio. JAntos would much rather hang with them than with someone like Elvira who has zero self-respect. "Fine! Go back to your crappy little room, then!" JAntos is only too happy to do that. Milamores and Susanito also say goodbye. Of course, Elvira vows revenge.
Moustache Mariachi and Brunette Mean Girl are in the kitchen alone, gathering some more appetizers to bring out to the others. He waxes rhapsodic about her lovely hands and how beautiful she is. He's honored to be there on her birthday. She's flattered by his compliments, but uncomfortable when he mentions the birthday and jokes that they'd better get the snacks out there so his friends don't die of hunger!
Maria tells Colosso that she sprang him from the party to go see Gloria. More assholery from the colossal macho schmo. Maria begs and he finally gives in, in exchange for a kiss and forgiving him.
Susanito and Milamores come back to the party, Elvira hot on their heels, screaming that the party's over. She refuses to pay them. Milamores tries to argue that it's not fair and the guys agree, but he still has to pull out the big guns…threatening to tell her daddy that Elvira hired them and she likes to get frisky with the help.
Maria kisses Colosso on the cheek just as JAntos and his taxi catch up to them. Colosso takes off and JAntos runs back to his taxi and tells the driver to keep following that Mariachimobile! Maria isn't overly thrilled with the crazy driving that results, or JAntos leaning his head out the window and screaming "Bonita!" Colosso eventually manages to shake them.
Lourdes comes into Concho's office to find Mirna working on the books. Mirna claims that, unlike Lourdes, she actually takes care of Concho's money instead of just spending it all. Lourdes threatens to tell Concho that Mirna's screwing all his employees. Mirna threatens to tell Concho that Lourdes has been stealing from petty cash, which mysteriously comes up short every day. "Now get out of here and let me do what you don't do…work!" Lourdes warns Mirna that she's watching her. Oh, whatever!
Elvira's cranky and the mean girls can't figure out why, since she succeeded in pissing Maria off. Elvira agrees that part went week, but she needs revenge on JAntos for rejecting her. She realizes he left the sombrero and figures she can use that against him.
Colosso keeps trying to talk about how much JAntos sucks, but Maria tells him to shut it. She borrows his phone to call Amalia.
JAntos is on the sidewalk under Maria's window.
Amalia can tell that Maria and JAntos fought, but Maria will have to tell her later, since Colosso is right there. She goes into the bedroom, checks on the other two girls, sees him sitting outside, grabs a blanket, then hesitates.
Gloria begs Oscar to take a DNA test, as does Maria. Gloria says if he doesn't want to accept Rodrigo, then she'll accept it and whatever happens happens. She says she understands that he's upset and she should have told him sooner. "Why did you wait 17 years?" Gloria says she thought they had a strong love and she expected him to come back, but when he didn't she did the best she could. Oscar says if he's really his son, then why would she deny him the chance to see him grow up? How's his kid going to accept him now? Maria says blood calls to blood. Gloria won't tell Oscar why she's looking for him now if he won't agree to do the DNA test or accept that Rodrigo's his kid. Oscar counters that he'll do the test if she tells him why she came looking for him.
Oscar accuses Gloria of being just as stubborn as she was when they met…everything has to be her way! Gloria tells Oscar she hopes it goes well for him. Oscar leaves and Maria says she'll catch up to him later. She asks Gloria why she won't tell Oscar the truth. "Because he's right. I can't make him take care of my son, or make him do it because he feels sorry for me." Gloria knows there's no bond of love between Oscar and Rodrigo and she feels bad about that. Maria says it doesn't matter--she promised she'd take care of Rodrigo if anything happens to Gloria and she's going to keep that promise.
JAntos sits out on the sidewalk crying and reminiscing. He vows no one will separate them.
He wakes up out on the sidewalk in the morning. Dude, a little more respect for the traje! The Mariachimobile rolls up. Oscar claims that JAntos is there because he's cheating on her and has a guilty conscience. Whatever. Maria just wants to go to bed. She refuses to talk to JAntos, but he says he waited there all night. "If you punished yourself like that, it must be for a reason." Meanwhile, Oscar won't go away and gets out of the Mariachimobile to keep picking a fight with JAntos. Maria eventually gets rid of him, then turns on JAntos for continuing to fall into Elvira's traps. JAntos brings up seeing her kissing Oscar in the Mariachimobile. Maria claims not to be jealous, but disappointed. JAntos says he didn't wait for her because he felt guilty, he waited because he knew she was upset. He won't give back her keys, but she gets them back eventually and tells him it's over between them. She shuts the gate, but he still won't leave. After some pretty words, she opens the gate again. They've had their good times, but also some really bad ones and she's had it. "You're leaving eventually anyway, right? This was never going to work." JAntos grabs her and plants a big kiss on her, but Maria holds firm.
Mancia sees Maria and asks if she remembers the cards saying her prince would come from far away. Mancia doesn't think it's JAntos, since the prince was supposed to have a dark past, but make her very happy. Maria says he's made her very unhappy. "What's love for if it hurts so much?"
JAntos climbs that trellis again and starts singing "Siempre Hace Frio" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQm5Hi0Op-w)
This heart
That still wants you
Is dying afternoon after afternoon
Like the light of day dies
I can't take it anymore
I miss you
Come back to me
Soul of my soul
My life
Where are you? Where are you?
Kill me, heaven; swallow me, earth
Take me, Christ; if you won't come back again.
Maria won't talk to Amalia about why she's upset and leaves the room. Amalia goes to the balcony, surprising JAntos. She asks him to leave and respect her daughter's decision.
Tomorrow: Mancia reads the cards again and sees the knight of swords and death; the Godfather loses patience; Michael takes the stand; JAntos decides to turn himself in.

RL update: filming proceeds. Last night was extra complicated as I'm playing 2 characters who are in the same scenes, so we shot everything twice and I had to change clothes, hair, and makeup. Next week, we do the whole thing over again...in Spanish. Are you intrigued? I'm sure it will be worth the wait :D
I'm curious why they didn't just shoot the Spanish-language scenes right away unless it involves different sets or looks.
It's time for someone to rat Elvira out to her father. Since her mother hasn't done so yet it should be someone like Fernando or Susanito. Yes, we don't need another couple fighting in this story, but until Concho knows about his daughter's slutty tricks I don't think anything is going to be done about it. She's obviously going to threaten to destroy the sombrero if Jorge Alfredo doesn't show up alone to claim it, but since Fernando is such a clever second-story man he needs to be part of that rescue mission. They can certainly blackmail that slut by threatening to tell her father if she doesn't surrender the sombrero intact and leave Jorge Alfredo alone thereafter.
Which doesn't change the status quo because she won't stop.
Justo and Altagracia should just disown Wendy, but we all know that won't happen until they can prove beyond any doubt that Santos is innocent.
I don't know what it would take to get Elvira to back off. Every attempt is met with "you'll pay!" So tiresome.
JAntos waking up on the sidewalk. Really?? Too many adolescent shenanigans going on.

Elvira disrespects people from the lower classes because she's grown up watching her mother disrespect people from the lower classes.
Elvira has no dignity around Jorge Alfredo because Lourdes has no dignity around Concho. This is probably not the first time Concho has run around on Lourdes, but she stays because she likes the money. Lourdes has taught Elvira it's ok to glom onto a man as long he has what you want.
Maria has learned that relationships are full of glitter, sparkles, rainbows & fluff because Amalia has taught her that's how relationships are supposed to be. So any and EVERY time Jorge Alfredo disappoints her, Maria wants to throw in the towel........cause Amalia has also taught her if everything isn't sparkles & rainbows it's bad.
Plus, Maria isn't equipped to fight back against someone devious & slutty like Elvira because her mind doesn't work that way.
The one good thing Amalia has taught her daughters is to have dignity about themselves. Both Maria & Paloma have stood up for themselves against Elvira & Maritza, who were trying to belittle them.
I wish one of the Saucy Wenches would hip Maria to the fact that Elvira is trying every trick in the book to seduce Jorge Alfredo, but I fear if that happened, Maria may think she needs to sleep with Jorge Alfredo to hold on to him and that's not good at all.
How long does it take to get from Gloria's house to Maria's house and why didn't Gloria just tell Coloso the truth?
I do not believe Justo & Gracia would ever disown Wendy, not when they haven't disowned Santos for being a "criminal" on the run. Gracia knows Wendy is under Bruno's spell of sex & love and she's not going to listen to reason. The only think Gracia can do is wait for Wendy's house of cards to fall down and be there to pick up the pieces.
Diva del Desierto--Kudos on a very confusing episode. It was "full of glitter, sparkles, rainbows & fluff" and didn't disappoint. (So glad you didn't give us a minute by minute description of the car chase--it was pretty lame--and he was on the wrong side calling her name.) Congrats on your burgeoning acting career--wow, speaking parts, and double the beauty? I can't wait.
AnonAgain--I think the Diva covered why Gloria didn't just tell Oscar the truth. She doesn't want Oscar to care for his son out of obligation.
I don't think I can take much more (ok, it's a rant) of the off again, on again romance between Jorge & Maria. Yesterday I said I wanted less L.A. and more Jorge. Now I take that back. Maybe L.A. will get a little more interesting.
About the Paaatay:
1. Why didn't Coloso & Fernando call Elvira's bluff and leave once they realized it was all a ruse. They are supposed to be professionals.
2. Why didn't Jorge Alfredo just lock himself in the bathroom until the party was over.
Anita La Dama del Queso
Coloso (you know I hate nicknames) probably felt he wanted to give Elvira one last shot or allow her to make an ass of herself.
Fernando might be concerned about losing his job over having this situation really go bad.
Jorge Alfredo isn't a coward. He might also have thought that in that confined space Elvira's true colors could become as obvious to the other guys as they are to him. He's also still paranoid about being caught.
I thought that when Maria slapped Elvira she finally realized that all the past situations were set-ups. However, since she doesn't have enough experience dealing with this particular species of female viper she is still vulnerable to being deceived. And not by Jorge Alfredo but other women.
--------
But it IS Coloso's obligation. He shouldn't go back to Gloria out of obligation but he SHOULD take care of his son out of obligation.
There's a whole bunch of Mean Cliques in this novela:
Elvira & her Mean Girls Fernanda (the dark curly Asian looking one) and Pamela (red head...I think that's her name)
Maritza & her Mean Girls
Coloso, Skinny Mariachi w/mustache & Mariachi w/slicked back ponytail
Ruben & Fabian
Orange Julius, Bruno & Arnold
Even Gloria doesn't know all of it. She has no clue that Oscar dropped out of her life because her father tricked him into doing so.
The only person who can really guilt Oscar into accepting responsibility is Fernando; he just needs to come up with the right speech on the subject.
a) The reason I'm asking you to care for Rod is because I'm sick;
b) My dad tricked me...he sent me away and that's why I never looked for you/told you about Rod
If Coloso has this knowledge and still doesn't want to take care of Rod, fine. But Coloso needs all the facts before he can make an informed decision. He doesn't have them b/c Gloria won't tell him & it's not Maria's place to tell.
Maria has moved to the top of my list of useless leading ladies. She cries, she won't listen to anything JAntos has to say and tosses in the towel every time something goes wrong. She has no trust or staying power and at this point JAntos is way too good for her.
Speaking of JAntos we seem to have a bit of role reversal here. Usually in a novela the galan is the stupid dude who believes everything rotten and has no faith but here it is Maria. JAntos has been nothing but kind to her family, paying the rent, taking Amelia to the hospital and then going back and cooking for the girls and taking care of them. Maria should be ashamed of herself but I suspect her real suffering is about to begin and she has it coming.
Elvira is a waste of space. I do think it is time someone told Concho and his red haired witch wife what a tramp Elvira really is. Her juvenile antics with her squealing friends is getting really old.
I really feel sorry for Gloria. She is facing her chemo hell, trying to be sure that Rod will be taken care of and her OTL is acting like a selfish blockhead. I wonder if she will survive to the end.
I should know better than to be flummoxed by anything in a novela but Maria and oscar go to Gloria's in the evening, he leaves and the next thing we know he and Maria arrive back home in the morning? Huh - did he wait outside ll night for her?
JAntos was out on the sidewalk all night. Amalia saw him waiting for Maria and then he woke up in the morning still on the sidewalk when Maria & Coloso rolled up. Then he climbed the ladder to talk to Maria on the balcony where Amalia shooed him away.
If there is a time to demonstrate that JAntos is telling the truth when it comes to Elvira, it's now:
Elvira will claim JAntos was with her all night & left his sombrero.
Maria will believe that JAntos was with Elvira even though she saw him waiting on the sidewalk when she & Coloso rolled up.
Amalia will mention JAntos being out on the sidewalk all night. If Maria has any braincells, she'd wonder how could JAntos have been with Elvira all night if her mother saw him on the sidewalk all night?
Maria is very naive. She didn't believe she was in love until Amalia & the Saucy Wenches told her she was in love. Now she has Amalia & the Saucy Wenches whispering that all men are dogs, they all cheat, lie, JAntos will hurt her etc. She sees JAntos around Elvira & so she's going to believe what her mom & others are saying instead of what her eyes & heart are saying.
Again, I blame Amalia for Maria's naivete re: relationships b/c she's painted a picture for Maria of relationships being like cotton candy and rainbows & they're not. Maria is quick to dump JAntos for every little thing b/c every time anything wrong happens with JAntos, Amalia &/or the Saucy Wenches are whispering in Maria's ear to get rid of him.
We've said it before and it bears repetition: Jorge Alfredo is the man who could take Maria away. Oscar wouldn't.
Considering what we know of Oscar, does anyone think he would be faithful to Maria? I don't. But he shows his best face to Amalia, which means it will take some serious effort on someone's part to make her see that he's not the yerno of her dreams.
I suspect the waitresses have had more of their share of toads in their own quests for the prince. Too bad, because they otherwise seem like decent people.
So true: "Dude, a little more respect for the traje!" Those suits aren't cheap and he only has the one to wear for every performance.
Another terrific read, Kat!
I am soooo over Elvira's tricks and tantrums. Anyway, Maria should know better by now--or should she. Wendy is getting on my last nerve, not to mention Gloria and Oscar. Can't wait for Michael to take the stand and tell his version of the story.
