Qué Bonito Amor #33 (Mex 49-50.1) Wednesday 5/29/13 The Near-Seduction of Maria

Scenes arranged for continuity……

El Lay
In his only appearance tonight, Derecho is working on his case when he gets a call from his “amor”.  They make plans but not before he tells her he loves her very much.

Jail – Mike is playing dentist.  A mean looking dude comes in for a checkup.  He turns away from his patient and gets out a scalpel (no guards?)  He threatens his “patient”.  He knows Mean Dude is the one who tried to shank him.  He wants to know who was behind it.  Patient tells him it was just business, nothing personal.  The job came from outside and he was only doing it for the money.  Having said that, the fool still allows Mike to check on his molar.

El Lay
OJ tells his crony that involving Bruno in this was a big mistake.  Now he doesn't even plan on marrying Wendy.  He's sure Bruno's gonna turn on them and they risk losing everything.  He tells the crony to put his beanie, er thinking cap on and come up with Plan B.  The money is only part of their problem.  He's sure Santos is aware that Mike's been convicted.  It's more important than ever for Bruno to pass them info on all the goings on at Casa Martinez de la Garza.

B&B Internet Bar
Santos receives an email from Wendy.  She knows she's hurt him but it's just that she was furious with him because he ruined the life of the man she's planning to marry and the father of her unborn child.  Jantos is ecstatic at the news.  She goes on to say she loves him anyway and he'll always be able to count on her and Bruno.  Jantos is excited about becoming an uncle and only wishes he could share this type of happiness with his bonita.

Hospital
More shenanigans as Isabel's IV is removed.  Gloria and Rodrigo come to visit bearing a plate of cookies.  Paloma and Rodrigo exchange goo-goo eyes.  Gloria suggests R & P go off to the cafeteria.  Gloria suffers a bout of wooziness and the doctor insists she get examined.

Later he tells her it's irresponsible of her not to continue her treatments.  It's vital that Gloria continue treatment with her oncologist.

Elsewhere,  R & P are making up.  She tells him it doesn't matter he won't be her chambelan because there will no longer be a fiesta.  Colosso shows up and insists Rodrigo beg her forgiveness etc, etc

B&B Internet
Now Santos gets an email from Bruno.  Santo must not, for any reason, let anyone know Bruno's contacted him.  No one knows about this.

On the street, Jantos is accosted by that scary clown.  He buys flowers from him and eyes him curiously.  Holy clown shoes, Batman!  Is he thinking what I think he's thinking?  We can only wait.

Dona Prudencia and her sis are busy knitting and visiting w/Mancia who laments that her little Susie is now a fully grown man who will surely leave the nest soon.  Mothers are never ready for their children to leave, etc etc.

Hospital
Paloma explains to Colosso they can't possibly have her fiesta because of the money owed to Ruben and Jantos.  Jantos walks in and with what will be the running gag in this episode, the both assure her in unison that the fiesta will go on.

Colosso goes to visit Isabel.  He tells Amalia to take a rest while he sits with Isabel.  He fills her with stories about Jantos being a big fat liar.  Isabel says the only thing she doesn't like about Jantos are the kisses....guácala!  I knew it!  The clown (and I mean it in every sense) comes to visit w/Isabel and it's none other than Jantos.  She's still mad at him and won't let him cheer her up because he's leaving.  Blah, blah, blah.  He continues with his payasadas when Maria walks in and witnesses the clowning around.  Jantos promises he'll come back because they’re family.

Jantos and Maria talk in the hallway.  He tells her he would do anything for her.  She points out Gloria to him and St. Jantos tells her they'll find a way to help Gloria.

Spa Time!
Elvira and her gal-pal talk Jantos while getting a mani-pedi.  Elvira says she'll have to give Jantos a proper good-by so he'll have something to return to.

Hospital
Isabel asks Paloma to do her homework but Paloma promises only to help her.  She also refuses to do Isabel's chores ff>>

As they leave the hospital, Rodrigo insists Gloria tell him what's going on.  He tells her Paloma is still pithed because he didn't want to be her chambelan.  He just doesn't like those things.

Back at Isabel's room,  Maria and Amalia argue over who will stay with Isabel.  Colosso comes back looking for his hat and tells her that Paloma told him there would be no fiesta.  This is news to Maria.  Amalia explains it was Paloma's choice.  Again, the two clowns say in unison that there will indeed be a fiesta.

Doña Prudencia’s
Irasema brings over the medications for Prudie and her sis.  She stops to admire Mancia's knitting.  Mancia offers to show her how to knit sometime.  As Irasema walks away, Mancia says she seems like such a nice girl.

Casa de Jantos
Jantos prepares to shower in the communal bath.  Elvira appears out of nowhere and sneaks in while he's showering, “You're not gonna get away from me so easily.”  She doesn't know but Irasema has seen everything.  Maria walks up to his apt while all this is going on and hears the commotion in the bath as Jantos is trying to fight off the wicked Evira.  She opens the bathroom door and finds them in their altogether!  Elvira tries to make it sound as though this is a regular thing.  He tries to hold Maria back but she slaps him and storms off.  Irasema stops her in the walkway and tells her everything, that Elvira snuck into the bathroom without Jantos'  knowledge.  Jantos, meanwhile, is trying his best to kick Elvira out.  Maria comes back in and slaps Elvira, “That's for being a cusca (flirt/whore).”  She slaps her again, “this one is for being an ofrecida (easy)”  Then she slaps her yet again, telling her to respect men who belong to another.  The catfight begins.  Jantos gets between them and carries Maria off.  Now Irasema confronts Elvira, telling her she (Irasema) works and knows how to respect what's not hers.  She ends up grabbing Elvira by the hair and taking her out.

In his apartment, Jantos swears nothing is going on.  Maria wonders why everything seems to point to Elvira and he being lovers.  He can't believe Maria would think he would be attracted to a woman like Elvira.  He wants a woman like his bonita, pure and beautiful. Maria says she was furious when she saw Elvira in the shower with him.  He understands and is happy she knocked Elvira about because it shows him that Maria loves him and is capable of defending their love.  Maria reminds him what she's said before, “Solamente la mano de Dios podra separarnos.”  (quoting a Jose Alfredo Jimenez classic).  They kiss and makes up as usual to Chente singing Que Bonito Amor.  They continue to smooch and she reclines on his bed (ruh-roh) as he tells her he lurves her, mucho!

Downstairs, Prudy and sis continue their conversation about Mexican matinee idols and look up to see Irasema dragging the toweled and very wet Elvira by her hair, down the stairs and out to the street.  She screams for someone to let her back in.  Irasema walks calmly back upstairs as Elvira continues to scream.  Prudy tells her sister she's going to have to evict Irasema.  No one is allowed to scandalize her apartments!

The Evil Ruben
Meanwhile, Ruben is contracting a highly recommended PI by the name of Escudeño who inexplicably flicks his Bic and keeps the flame glowing while Ruben instructs him to follow Jantos and learn everything there is to learn about him.  Escudeño agrees and finally ficks off his Bic.  (ok, so he flicked if off momentarily but it was still stoopid)

Back at the Seduction of Maria, he tugs at her blouse and tells her again how he loves her.

Hospital
Doctor finally releases the brat.  Amalia and Paloma are ecstatic but the brat can only complain about not having her tele and never having enough to afford one like the one in the hospital.

Casa de Jantos
Meanwhile the Seduction of Maria is interrupted by Irasema who walks in to throw Elvira's clothes out through Jantos' balcony.  Elvira is pithed and she's jeered by the passing Mariachi.  Irasema turns back to the room and realizes she's interrupted something.  Maria asks her to wait, they need to talk.

They head back to Irasema's room.  Maria thinks Irasema is a very lucky woman.  Susie loves her very much and he's such a nice guy.  Irasema doesn’t think she deserves Susie because, yeah we know, she has no right to be loved, etc etc.  It's best Susie forget about her.  Maria insists Irasema is a marvelous woman who deserves the best.  God is the only one who can judge and will forgive what is done out of kindness and love.  Irasema shares she was responsible for her siblings when her mother died.  She was so desperate and could think of no other way (what, like cleaning houses? Washing dishes? Waiting table?  Ok, I'll stop)  Maria tells her to stop punishing herself and allow herself to love.  She deserves it.  Uh-oh, Prudy walks in demanding to know what that was all about.  She tells Irasema to find another place to hang her unmentionables.  Maria defends Irasema, telling Prudy what really went down with Elvira.  Prudy changes her tune quickly.  Apparently she's no fan of Elvira's and says she'll never darken her doorway again.  Sis wonders why Irasema is crying and she responds, “because I wasn't born to love.”

A Mariachi Named Sue
Meanwhile, Susie is thinking back to his night of passion with Irasema and begins to cry desparately.  Jantos comes a-knocking just then.  Jantos has come to ask for forgiveness.  Instead of being there for him, he only ended up causing him harm.  He’s very sorry.  Susie explains he was always the butt of his friends’ jokes and women never paid him any attention.  What Jantos did has impacted him for life.  Jantos apologizes again and says he will always be his friend.  He goes on to say Irasema is a dignified woman, deserving of a good man such as Susie.  Susie knows how difficult it is to ask for forgiveness and he holds no grudges.  Of course he forgives Jantos and jokes that he quit the cupid business and dedicate himself to singing.

Casa Reyes
Rodrigo continues to question Gloria about her health.  She insists she's just tired.  She distracts him by telling him she has a surprise for him.  She received word from his school that he is no longer on probation.  She shows him his surprise – a drum set (batería)!!

Hospital
The brat continues her whining that no one loves her.  Amalia apologizes for not being able to give them everything they want.  Paloma understands Amalia has given them everything she can.  She reminds Isabel that although they may not be rich, they're fortunate to have a mommy like Amalia.

Another Wednesday and again no songs…..QTH?

Comments:
Isabel really got on my nerves tonight. When did she become so whiny?

She is whiny--must be part of her post-op behavior.

I find it ironic that Jantos so seriously told Maria that he only wanted a pure woman and then made the attempt to change her into an impure one.

Paquita:

Thank you so much for this fab recap.

La Paloma:

I laughed at your comment and I agree.

I am really more interested now in Irasema and Susanito to see if she will finally quit the life and find something else to do now. She really is a hooker with a heart of gold. I love what she did to Elvira, it's about time someone did.

I was wondering what Dr. Mike was up to too! And he still fixed the guy's tooth, who knew?

I think Isa is just bored going home now and since she isn't able to do much, she is whining. I bet she'll get into more mischief once she is better.

So Rodrigo does have some musical talent. His drumming wasn't bad.

I hope Gloria continues with her treatments. She needs to stay healthy for Rodrigo.

JAntos was funny as the clown, he is also a fixer, always trying to help other people.

“Holy clown shoes, Batman!” Great recap, Paquita! Thank you.

“The clown (and I mean it in every sense) comes to visit w/Isabel …” Eeew. That was painful to watch. Ay, Jorge, how could you?

ITA that Isa is getting tiresome. I thought JAntos and Maria were making good progress with the horizontal activities, but I love how Irasema gave Evilra (you see what I did there?) the business. I only wish she’d left her out on the street without clothes a bit longer; both Evilra and the love birds needed a bit more time.

Madeleine, you might call JA and Maria fixers, but I’d call them people with boundary issues. At least they have that in common.

Good work, Paquita, and I sympathize with you on the lack of songs last night.

I agree, Carolina, on the clown thing. When Pablo did this in FELS I was cringing then, too. This must be a Mejia obsession of some kind. Here's hoping that this is also a one-time thing.

Both Maria and Santos' boundary issues come from still living with their parents. Maria lives at too-close quarters with her mother and sisters to have developed any appropriate boundaries with them.

I think Santos was too quick to forgive his brat sister. Again, if that baby is born I hope she doesn't get to raise it. When the hell is someone going to tell him about Bruno's confession?

We had the cliche near-miss on an encounter between Oscar, Gloria, and Rodrigo. How many more of these are going to happen before Oscar has to know? I hope not many.

Gloria is being foolish delaying her treatment through all this. This situation seems to scream for a sudden shock.

Standing ovation for Irasema for sticking up for Maria. However, I don't think this is going to be enough to stop Elvira.

Paloma, impurity is of the heart, not the body. Irasema is a pure-hearted woman no matter what she's done with her body. Maria -- when she finally makes love with Santos -- will be experiencing what sex really should be. I mean that in every sense of the word. It will be nothing short of sublime.

Thank you for this fab recap, Paquita! I have been so bad about keeping up with the recaps (it's hard enough keeping up with these three novelas right now) but I caught this one and you did a great job.

I'm finding Irasema and Susanito's story one of my favorites right now. I so wish for a happy ending (and I assume we'll get one). Of course it's totally corny, but I don't care.

Bummer that there were no songs in this episode. I really enjoy that too.

I didn't cringe too much at the clown scene (not knowing the history of this producer) but found it a bit unexpected. But Jorge Salinas put his heart into that performance, bless him. What a trooper!

I don't know if Jantos (love that name for him!) would have followed through with the Maria seduction attempt. I think he was seeing if he could push it a little. It was a bit ironic when he was just talking about Maria's purity and then he tries to remove just a teensy bit of it! LOL.

I enjoy Isa's and JAntos' scenes the most.

I did think Santos smiling/leering at the clown was creepy.

Irasema should've left Evilra nekkid on the street a little bit longer. Or just thrown her purse at her minus the clothes. Let her explain to Lourdes & Concho why she's walking home in just a towel.

The fact that Irasema didn't leave Elvira only with the towel shows she has more class than Elvira.

Also, had she done that think of the story Elvira would concoct out of it. You know from past evidence that Lourdes won't let anyone tell her the truth. Frankly, I expected better of her.

If Concho's not home, then Elvira's home free b/c Elvira would admit that she was nekkid with Jorge Alfredo and Lourdes would've believed Jorge Alfredo was in the wrong.

But Concho doesn't believe JA has a thing for Elvira.....he knows JA is totally into Maria to the point of singing out their relationship on the stage. I think he even told Lourdes that JA was totally in love with Maria.

Now, lets see what revenge Elvira has cooked up for Maria.

The guy who attacked Maria and got away has been at the bar since then, probably with the same close-up. he might try to sell his services to Elvira next.

Gracias, Paquita! I agree...no music for the whole show? Unfair! What do they think we're watching for?

JA and Maria on the bed was soooo uncomfortable. I couldn't help thinking "Please, people, not on the clown suit with the bear watching!"

I'm glad Irasema hauled Elvira out on her skanky ass. I don't see what she was so freaked out by, either. That towel covers a lot more than some of her usual outfits.

I don't think Santos was talking about sexual purity when he was comparing Elvira to Maria. Otherwise he'd be looking down on Irasema and he doesn't. I think he knows when Maria does have sex with someone, it's because she wants to share a part of herself and love the person she's with.

Elvira thinks sex is fun & games, a diversion, a weapon, a manipulation, a way to alleviate boredom. She doesn't know Santos and doesn't want to know him (except in the Biblical way). She thinks he's a poor piece of crap who should be thanking her that she would even look his way.

If Santos & Maria have sex, it's because they love each other and want to share themselves with one another.

If Santos & Elvira had sex, it'd be because she wanted to piss off Daddy, get revenge on Maria, alleviate boredom, prove something to herself, have fun.....sex with Santos wouldn't be about Santos & Elvira, it would just be about Elvira.

I think that's what Santos means about Maria being pure and Elvira not being pure.

5 ft, That bear sees ALL! And I know a little girl in the hospital who would love, love, love to have it, but no, instead a grown man is keeping the teddy bear for himself. *eye roll*

UA, in Mexican families, adult children normally live at home with their parents until they get married.
There are some exceptions, of course, but generally that is what they do, and it's just a different culture. I don't think it leads to boundary issues or Mexico would be full of such cases, and it's not. I think Maria's got a nice, close relationship with her family. Maria and Santos have boundary issues because the writers wanted to create a very sappy story with what they want us to see as heroes with huge hearts. I'm not buying it. Helping everybody who comes along is a nice impulse, but not sensible.

Mexicans generally seem to think we're the weirdos for not wanting to live with our families. It's inconceivable to them. :) BTW, lots of other cultures do this, too. And in Japan, Maria's family would be living in half that space.

I hate clowns-nuff said!

I too am a fan of the Sue/Ira story line. I wonder if Mancia would still think her a nice girl if she knew what she did for a living. In any event she has a good heart, which we know from when she did the little favor for JAntos. I noticed that when Maria went to talk to her she had a dress with her. I'm hoping Ira will accept it and go to the club so all the guys can see that Sue has a real girl.

Frankly I'm getting sick of the entire whiny Mendoza clan. Amelia and her waffling about JAntos, Paloma moping although I will give her points for passing on the big fiesta because she knows about the money issues, Isa gets a small pass for being bratty in the hospital because she is probably bored with having to rest and she is young enough to want all the "stuff" her family can't buy her but she needs to lay off the nobody loves me line. And Maria what else can be said about her. She swears she loves JAntos but yet again when set up by SlutE she blames him and lashes out. I'm sorry but her immaturity is getting to me and I'm not sure she knows what real love is. She's all wrapped up in the idea of principe azul and the not the reality. I'm afraid if she and JAntos do the deed she'll spend the rest of the novela moping about and praying for forgiveness that is if she doesn't have one of those first time pregnancies TNs love so much.

JAntos is a fixer. He sees that all these people need help, he doesn't have access to his bank account so he tries to keep everybody happy any way he can. He is also going to have to learn that these people have pride and dignity and wouldn't accept charity from him if he could give it. He means well and at least he doesn't have ulterior motives like Reuben.

So we get a near miss of Gloria/Rod/Oscar. Typical but Oscar did again have an interaction with Rod which should make things easier when the truth comes out.

When Derecho was talking to his 'amor', did anyone else get the impression that it was not Curtis?

I did. That is the first interesting thing that this character has done.

Definitely got the idea that Drecho's love was not Curtis. He has never used the tone of voice he did on th phone when talking to the annoying cop. He always seemed to be trying to fend her off. Curtis will not be a happy camper.

I thought it was odd that Prudencia was immediately going to throw Irasema out on the street for causing a scene when only yesterday she told her they were all like family. She wasn't even going to wait to hear what happened. Now I really do want to see if SlutE tries to get back into the building to cause more trouble for Maria and JAntos. Love to see her go up against Prudencia.

UA, I probably should have put impure in quotation marks or found another word. I don't disagree with Jantos and Maria enjoying their love to the fullest (in fact, I expect that to happen at some point).

I was just entertained at the close conjunction of Jantos loving Maria's "purity," then putting the moves on her.

He probably did mean her purity of heart. It's also good when all our parts, heart, body, spirit are in harmony.

irisz 79, I can suggest you to use google-translate. You should paste the link with the video and try to translate the page. And then the video will be availiable with subtitles. But it works only with the last 5 episodes.

Oooooops, My last comment was for other recap. Sorryyyyy.
Alegria

Dona Pru against Evilra? Whoo, boy, that would be a fun one! I didn't even catch her inconsistency towards Ira, but I didn't take her threat to throw her out very seriously and then she did back down right away. Rules are rules at Pru's pension. Until they aren't. lol!

JAntos really is a nice guy, and I think the whole experience of seeing how hard life is for regular people has been eye opening for him. I think he wants to rush in and fix things (like a lot of men do), and the fact that he is enormously wealthy IRL and yet he can't help his new friends would be very frustrating for him. As for me, I really have to stop myself from psycho analyzing these characters and just batten down the beanie.

So why can't JAntos tell Maria that his sister is preggers? It's not like that is going to incriminate her or lead the FBI to him.

But well, I can say some words here. I read every recap here, and I realy enjoy them all, but I saw almost all episodes, so it is difficult for me to hide my real feelings. But still I like this part of novela and Salinas as a clown was wow. I think it one of my favorite episodes with him in this novela.

Carolina

Analyze away we often do it, should have seen us on Refugio. We should all have hung out a shingle.

I agree that JAntos is a good man at heart and the experience is an eye opener for him. He is also a very successful businessman which means he is driven to get things done. In a way this is really good for him, he's leaning lots of life lessons along the way. I'm wondering if in the end he will set up shop in Mexico and find a way to help all of his new friends with or without them knowing it, I can't see any of them being happy with him throwing his money at them. And won't Lourdes have fit to think she let all that money slip away (not that she would ever have had it for her little slutty princessa).

I hate clowns, too. I don't have the phobia that a couple of my friends do but I don't find them amusing.

Carolina, I completely agree; he was not talking to Curtis. I am going to take a wild guess that Derecho is gay. That would allow for a freak-out scene with Curtis that would be another comic relief effort.

I took that Derecho scene as he was talking to a loved one, like a daughter or someone. We shall see!

I don't like clowns at all, but was admiring Jorge Salinas for busting his butt in that scene, to do the "best" clown he could think of. I hope we don't have a recurring clown theme, I prefer Jorge Salinas without white makeup covering his puppydog eyes! LOL

I missed the episode so thank you for yor recap, I feel like I did not miss a thing, I need to catch it on Demand just to see Elvira get smacked around!

I'm late commenting. Great title. Near-seduction indeed--broad daylight and he left the door wide open, but it's a man with just a towel around his loins made it oh, so ok. Stop the pelicula in my head.

Great stuff Paquita. You always deliver a corker.

I *will* stop and read the comments.

Let’s add this to the list of JAntos’ amazing talents: being able to carry a woman while hastily wrapped in a towel and magically have that towel stay in place. That’s quite a feat.

DCG, I would love to let loose with the analyzing, really I would, but I really need to protect my own sanity. QBA is all about senses and emotions, and it isn’t going to hold up to much intellectual scrutiny – make that ANY intellectual scrutiny - and I think I had better do my best to enjoy the surrealism and the music and laugh at it and leave it at that. You are so right that JAntos still will have to learn that people don’t always want to be helped or feel comfortable receiving charity. I do think he will end up in Mexico. I can’t see Maria leaving her family, for one thing. And we wouldn’t be watching him fall in love with Mexico just to have him leave it in the end, would we? It doesn’t seem like he’ll have much to go back to in LA, apart from his family anyhow.

I’m neutral on clowns; loved them as a kid but think they’re stoopid now. My problem was that I thought it was undignified and unnecessary for JAntos to literally make a fool of himself for Isa’s sake. I think hiring the clown on the street to come to the hospital would have been more than sufficient. I do agree that Jorge Salinas gave that clown scene his all, to his credit.

Paquita & La Paloma--I echo your sentiments on Isa exactly. She learned that by saying Nadie me quiere (great discussion on the difference between amar & querer over on CI, btw), she gets an immediate response from everyone and offer her showers of silver and gold. She's going to learn 1. that saying it too often has its risks, 2. she's going to believe it herself if she's not careful.

Where is it that Gloria is getting money to live on and buy drum sets (they can be pretty expensive)? Her apartment is a lot nicer, in a nicer building and has nice tchotchkes around.

JAntos as clown. Cringe factor, good one, UA, I was looking for that word. Sorry, it did nothing to make me feel better about this tn. You're right Elvira, kudos to JS for giving it a go. Even Maria had a roll-your-eyes look there for a minute. At least Isa got a kick out of it.

Shower scene--I don't remember Jorge Alfredo taking a big-big oversized towel you would take to the beach into the shower with him that Evilra used (good one La Paloma). I guess my beanie got wet in the shower with him.

I agree with Decie--he was talking to a "real" love. If it is a girlfriend (or boyfriend--just read your comment UA! Thinking alike?), I wonder why he hasn't just told Curtis to back off, he's taken. Are we going to get a back story? Or is this a near-adult daughter (just read your comment after typing this, Elvira) he's talking to (again, interesting discussion on when one uses amor or querer over on CI).

Carolina--One more thought on the clown show. When he first poked the flowers, then his head in, I could have sworns he *had* hired the guy. The real clown was already dressed. And we had *just* seen JAntos in the hospital hallway with a medium sized bag in his hands talking to Oscar and Paloma.

Ok. I'm all done now.
Anita La Dama del Queso

The possibility of Derecho having a boyfriend is quite humorous. I don't think it would stop Curtis!

Anita, yes, I thought the same thing.

The writers need to make up their minds about Isa. Either she's a feisty little earthquake (terremotito) who makes more sense than the adults or a whiny, bratty, "nobody loves me" self-centered spoiled brat who berates her mother for not having enough money for "stuff." She is also waaay too old to be entertained with fairy tales (previous episode) and clowns. Her pouting is sooo not cute!

Love Irasema. Sometimes we see her without all that garish makeup and she actually looks younger and prettier. The first time I saw her I thought, "Oh, oh" - I had (very mistakenly) pegged her for the type of character that is actually being portrayed by Elvira. Glad to see I was so wrong.

I think Gloria's family had some money.

I thought Gloria's family had some money, too. And I also thought that if she passes away and Maria becomes responsible for raising Rodrigo, he would inherit Gloria's money and would be able to pay for his own expenses. So if they need a bigger apartment because of him, he could contribute to the increased rent, for example.
