CI: #35 - 6/28/13 : The Truth Shall Not Always Set You Free

Scenes are condensed for fluidity.

The Past

2 brain celled Tav is full of joy as his delusional mind allows him to believe his brother Miguel, did some good and moved MC and the family to a new house.  Because Oblivio could not make any inferences to why there is a burnt down shack where MC and her poor family once lived, Miguel guilty has to break it to him what happened (Oblivio must I comment on your lack of intelligence every episode…please surprise me for once…sigh). Oblivio freaks out wondering what happened to Solita and MC. Miguel informs him they both are fine but are gone forever.

The Present
Tobias lets it slip that Don Alejandro also has a grandchild. He quickly covers by saying there is a chance that his daughter could be married with kids. Don Alejandro likes the idea. Just as Tobias digs himself out of one hole he falls into another by stating that he is sure his daughter will return (!!) soon (Tobias, Tobias…. You’re a quick thinker but you need to make an exit before Don Alejandro gets suspicious).

Tamilupas
Oblivio questions Miguel of MC’s whereabouts…if she is in Mexico City.  Miguel states she probably went to Mexico. Oblivio slowly surmises that Lucia lied with the letter (Oh no really! What a surprise).  Miguel tries to soften the blow by saying they did not want to mortify him.  Nonetheless, Oblivio sadly states that this is his fault and feels that MC will never forgive him.  Miguel feels that Oblivio is not to blame for all the bad things that have happened. It was MC destiny. It does not matter, Oblivio still feels guilty for destroying her.

Miguel reports back dutifully to his wife and givers her the low-down. She applauds him for saying the right thing and also not telling Oblivio about MC being in jail.

Oblivio is reminiscing and shedding tears as he recalls the past. His brother comes into see how he is doing.  Oblivio has a personality transplant for a moment and decides to take action. He wants to look for MC however and wherever. His brother tries to talk him out of it…to just let the past go.  But there is no reasoning with Oblivio now. He knows that Miguel is hiding something and demands him to speak. Lucia walks in saying she will clear up matters once and for all (why do I get the feeling, that nothing but lies will be pouring from her mouth).

Lucia spouts some story that she was so nice to MC and opened the doors for her…blah blah blah. But in the end despite her kindness, MC is nothing but a thief who robbed her!!  In the end, she had to denounce her to the police when she stole her jewelry. Of course, Oblivio is eating up these half lies as his eyes brims with more tears at hearing MC’s awful plight. He cant stand to hear of MC spending the night in jail and suffering. He wonders if Lucia feels the least bit guilty (In your dreams buddy…in fact not even there).  Lucia feels she has a clean consciousness. In fact he should not have married her and brought her to this house.

JA and Santa discuss on a plan to meet with Oblivio so they can tell him what really happened with MC.

Next morning, JA finds him and brings him to Santa. Santa tells him that MC is not a thief and that she just fell into their trap. He still has the never to ask who was behind it and she tells him none other than Lucia. She tells him the true story of everything that went down after she left.  But Lucia and Miguel interrupt them. Oblivio, who now has one brain cell, does not fully believe Santa.  Santa tells him if he doesn’t her to look for the inspector who also knows what a snake Lucia is.

La Isla
Back at the Casino MariAle wonders why she has not seen Oblivio. She questions why she is even thinking about him when she hates him so much. At the same time, the persistent Karim informs one of his men to look for MariAle so she can join him. MariAle is attending to business matters in Carola’s office. Carola is wondering if MariAle will attend to Karim but she could not care less at the moment. Supposedly Karim rented out the ship for a private dinner party and Carola thinks Karim used this as a pretext to please MariAle (it must be good to have $$$, all this to get a girl’s attention). MariAle has other plans, she wants to play hard to get. One of Karim’s men enters and informs MariAle that Karim is waiting. It is not a surprise when she rejects the offer but she does say she will attend to him in an hour.

MariAle finally attends Karim who comments on her clothing. She mentions that there is a reason why she is dressed this way but is keeping it a secret.  Karim has a surprise for her, which she does not show much enthusiasm for. She breaks it down for him and says she will never be good to him. Of course the word “never” does not exist in the “oh so powerful” Karim’s vocab.  He does not give up when he wants something and the only thing he keeps is his pride and dignity. MariAle seems to think he lost some of this by continuing to chase after her.

Karim finds out that MariAle gets around the island through taxi’s. He wants to surprise her with a car, which she denies. She does not feel like accepting his gifts at the moment. Karim believes that these gifts will make their way to her heart. MariAle has other ideas…she thinks that he doesn’t care about her heart but her body. He will just have fun with her and then cast her aside. She questions why he does not just want to be her friend who he can talk with, give advice and things of that sort. Karim is not used to paying for advice especially from a woman. MariAle informs him that friendship is free. She would rather be his friend that he doesn’t give a dime to than his “woman” that he will shower with riches.

MariAle is ready to call it a night when she bumps into Teo. He warns he to be careful because someone wants to cause her harm. He tells her to be careful of Carola. MariAle said she is not afraid but finds it hard to believe that she would go that far to get someone to scare her.

MariAle (against her better judgment) goes home ALONE…and to no surprise finds a burglar in her home. He points a gun at her and tells her give him all her jewelry. Everything! She chooses this moment to show her bravery (or stupidity or both) and stands up to the black mask guy. She goes as far to threaten him to shoot (BOLD!) and even the mask guy looks a little scared.  MariAle throws some object that looks like a phone at him (really with all that talk is that the best you can do), which gets him a little mad. She finally starts to look scared and just when you think he is about to shoot Teo comes in to save the day. They find out that the black mask guy was using a toy gun and has been known for doing dirty work.  Teo does not want to denounce the guy for fear of a scandal, which will be bad business for the casino. MariAle who know believes Teo’s warning of Carola is nothing but mad. She is not more driven then ever, they do not know who they are messing with!!

MariAli doesn’t waste time. She skips right over to Carola’s office ready for a confrontation. They talk in circles without really saying anything accusatory. MariAle hints that she knows who is behind the failed attack and she will be prepared for next time.

Carola wants Tony to take care of matters himself since his prior plans failed. Tony is a little scared at the extremes she is going to and doesn’t believe he can fulfill her wishes.  All Carola wants is for him to scare her so that she can leave the island and she is only giving him three days!!

MariAle is back to doing business and she realizes that Carola is still doing shady business with the casino earnings. She barges into Carola’s office who is not in the mood.  They get straight to the point and MariAle accuses Carola of cooking the books. Carola is offended and tells her to watch her words but MariAle does not back down. She wants to see the books and punto!!! They get into a heated argument. Carola will not give her the books because she does not have the power to do so yet. MariAle says she will speak to Don Alejandro and assures Carola he will bid to her request. Carola is not so sure and doubts her words as a bluff.

Karim is trying to buy MariAle with jewels (dude it didn’t work before!). He is convinced thought that if she does not accept this then she may not be bought with money after all (well at least your brain cells are firing unlike our other galan). The jeweler shows up at MC’s door and tells her how much the jewels are worth and its sender was Karim. MariAle sends the jewels back to its sender (they didn’t look that impressive if you ask me).
Karim calls and wants to invite MariAle for lunch. He wonders if the gift has arrived and she says of course. Thanks but No thanks!

Anticlimactic end to episode: Oblivismo follows up on Santa's word and calls the inspector. Some woman informs him that he has left for a week to handle some business. He leaves an urgent message with her stating that he needs to discuss with him about MC.

Great recap, CeCe. I so agree that it was an anticlimatic end of episode. But what else can we expect from two-brain-celled Oblivio?

Love the recap CeCe. Thanks so much.
Can't believe Tav was still hesitant to believe Santa. Where is Maria? I so want Lucia to be found out as to how she manipulated MC. There's no point in having to have Tav like her. She can still be a beyotch and a pain, so let him learn the truth. I was surprised the issues of "what did you do with the money I sent" didn't come up. Hopefully she doesn't get to the inspector first.

Sort of getting bored with the Karim/Mari dancing game. I'm starting to worry he has a few brain cells missing too...get it man, she can't be bought.

Carola is moving into that dangerous Lucia territory of wanting to harm people to get her way. So far, she only wants to scare Mari, but if pushed, I can see her stepping with both feet to the dark side.

Daisynjay

Great one CeCe, thanks!

I think I just give up Oct as a lost cause..he knows Luciafer lied to him, fabricated a letter from MC and treated her like trash and he BELIEVES her??!!!
She even lie when she asks a question!!

No comment on the whole situation!

Thank you CeCe, I appreciate so much each and every recap. I am learning Spanish and can't aways get all the goings on. I have been trying to find out how many episodes in this series. Does anyone know? Thanks

Excellent recap CeCe. You described the events of this episode with great clarity and good humor.

I really wish that Maricruz would be somewhat less confrontational in both her investigative as well as social pursuits. I see her toying with the Emir as immature as well as potentially dangerous. She's opening up too many fronts in the war she has declared against society. I think that she has way overestimated he ability to multi-task.

I can't imagine why Octavio hasn't gone ballistic over the false information that he's been fed. The fire, Ramiro's death, the stolen necklace, Maricruz in jail, the phony letter, Maricruz, Solita, and Monito... gone... What's it gonna take?

I loved Santa taking a stand with Lucia, "Sure, go ahead and bring in the inspector to investigate my accusations..."

Carlos

Daisynjay: I like Karim...he is semi amusing with his arrogance. Perhaps its because he just seems smarter than Oblivio.

LatinaInMD/irisz79: I also have given up on Oblivio. I just will pray and hope he smartens up before the end. He is so boring....all he talks and thinks about is MC. I couldnt agree more with all the comments saying that he needs a hobby...sports, cars, nightlife...something!!

Carlos: Santa was brave last night. She let Luciafer have it and she didn't care. Too bad Oblivio took her words lightly. I will no longer waste brain cells trying to guess why he still believes those two liars (Miguel and moreso Lucia).

I think MariAle can handle herself with Emir but I am more worried about Carola. I didnt think she would confront her so soon. MC better watch her back.

Thanks, CeCe for the short and snappy recap. Oblivio has as much or more to learn than MariCruz ever did.

Daisynjay, you asked where Maria is. She went back to her home town to live. She stopped in the DF on her way to the pueblo to give MC the box of letters and papers from Ramiro.

MariAle is super Mari, but she may be taking on too many opponents, especially for a pregnant woman who should be propping her feet up sometimes.

Thanks La Paloma--I forgot about that. Would have been so helpful to have her around as well to give weight to Santa's tale, but who knows, even then we would have gotten that lost poppy look from Tav.

Carlos, I will agree that in some of her dealings, I wish Mari was a little less in-your-face. I get it why she is that way with any man that comes her way, but when she barged into Carola's I was thinking " Rules of warfare: never tell your enemy what your thinking of doing." She needs to be a little more cunning.

Daisynjay

Self-loathing becomes Octavio. He looked very attractive in the first scene of this episode. And then he blew it all by being more or less stupid for the rest of it.

I'm always annoyed by the "I have suspicions and even some proof against someone so I'll take it to them and throw my accusations in their face" gambit on TNs. What's the point? Unless you're trying to blackmail them somehow (and it's always our heroes who do this, so they're not into extortion), there's no earthly reason to do it. Collect your evidence and take it to someone who gives a damn, such as the proper authorities or someone who can withdraw their trust or otherwise act (such as Don Ale).

CeCe--I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I love the "2 brained celled Tav" opener. I caught the end as I went to comment. I completely agree about the anticlimactic ending. Now I'll go read the middle bits.

emerldrose--I don't know for sure how many episodes, but the orginial (MariMar) had 150-ish episodes so I am expecting this one to have at least that many. Coupled with the fact that this is a ratings hit in Mexico there might be more.

Marimar had only 74 episodes. In Mexico on Friday was aired episode #90. The end of the story is planed in the beginning of october, so it'll be 160-180 episodes.

Alegria

Alegria-That will teach me to believe Wikipedia. LOLOL!!!

CeCe-
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You took away one of his brain cells!! Hysterical!

...well at least your brain cells are firing unlike our other galan

Great line. I only saw the Marimar DVD, but was the galan as dumb/gullible?

Which leads me to Lucia... oh boy that woman can lie. How does Miguilty live with himself?

Sara C., in Mexico they use strange numeration. They always talk about half-hour episodes. So real 74 episodes are 148 half-hour episodes. May be this is the answer.
In marimar galan was awfull. As for me, much more worse then Tav.
Alegria

Thank you Alegria! That explains my confusion.

I really really LOVE this show and I hope that the extra episodes don't ruin it. So many of the TNs I've seen lately did not seem better when they extended them.

I have enjoyed your enthusiasm for this show. I am utterly smitten with Ana Brenda Contreras. She is doing a great job.

Thanks to all of you for the episode information. I started watching telenovas as part of my "homework" assignment. Got hooked on Armorcita Corizon, and loved the cocky. swaggering Willie Pizon. Started watching C.I. just to see Daniel and Elizabeth Alverez. but soon got hooked on the entire show. Just wish Tav had that same swagger and confidence this time around.

Oh! Amorcito Corazon is one of my favorites! Daniel was great in that. He's great in this, too...but I would love to see him in a more comical role again.

Cece-

This was a fabulous recap. It's obvious that all of YOUR brain cells were firing, even if Tav's two were not. I had real hope for him at the beginning of the episode, but then when he expressed his doubts about Santa's words, I just lost it. Dude! Look at Santa (her name even tells you she's a saint)! And then look at lying liar Luciafer! Which one do you believe?! Good grief! (rant over)

Mari is very audacious, but we knew this wouldn't change just because she became "refined." This is the woman who shot her husband to get him to stay in town, after all. Someone does need to caution her to be more careful and cunning. Maybe Teo.

I want to see more of Tony. He is not comfortable with Carola's plan, but he still went ahead and got a hoodlum (with a fake gun) to scare Mari. He's a gray character. Mari may be able to bring him over on her side later.

Emeraldrose and Sara- I loved Daniel as the cocksure Willy in Amorcito Corazon. This role is very different.

I watched parts of Marimar when it was on last year—the galan was worse. Octavio is more sensitive and caring than the previous version of the galan.

Vivi-"Luciafer" PERFECT for that lying shrew.

I think I've said before that I had seen DA in Teresa and thought he was wooden. Then he got all kinds of charming in Amorcito Corazon. Now he's back to serious, but I like him better in this than in Teresa.

I don't remember much of Marimar (I only saw the DVD), so I can't really compare the two galans....but I love that despite his cerebral deficiencies Tav does seem to have some compassion.

OH! I learned a couple of phrases in Costa Rica that describe Tav:

No tiene cerebro ni pa' un derrame. (He's so dumb he doesn't have the brains for a stroke)

Tiene más cerebro una cabeza de ajo. (A head of garlic has more brains.)

Sara- Those are great new phrases. LOL! How did you enjoy your time in Costa Rica? Did you get a chance to travel, as well as take Spanish courses?

By the way, it was one of the other clever recappers who first called her Luciafer. It is perfect, isn't it? And Elizabeth is playing SUCH a different character from her character in Amorcito.

Thank you Vivi.

I had a great time. We studied at three different campuses so we were just outside San Jose for a week (in San Joaquin de Flores in Heredia), near a beach in Playa Flamingo Guanacaste for a week and spent the last two weeks in Santa Elena (in Puntarenas near the cloud forest of Monteverde.)

It's a beautiful country and I'm already trying to convince hubs to let me go back in December! I am so in love with CR.

Well, then--Kudos to the clever recapper. Excellent nickname.

When this first started I had trouble seeing Elizabeth Alvarez as evil and someone commented that they has trouble with her as the good two-shoes she was in AC. I now completely understand and I've done a 180 because EA does villainess chillingly well.

I'm totally with you, Sara, about Daniel A. I first saw him in Teresa, and he was TERRIBLE. Then I saw him in AC, and he was so different... actually enjoyable! I couldn't believe the difference! I like him okay in this one... his dramatic acting has come a long way from Teresa.

So the past couple of episodes have me thinking that Teo is behind the robberies... trying to convince Aracely that the thief was good at heart and never stole from good people, and then balking at getting the police involved because of the "scandal" to the casino. I have a feeling he set up the whole "rescuing" MC from the robber scenario to throw people off his scent, and therefore he didn't want the police involved, in case the robber he "hired" spilled the truth. The there's how the camera always goes to his face for a reaction when people are talking about the zorillo... I don't think he's a bad guy; I think he truly believes he's justified in taking from "bad people." That's my theory for now anyway...

AnotherAmy- When Carola was speaking to Tony she was scolding him about the guy he hired to scare Mari and then ordered him to do it himself the next time. So no, Teo didn't hire the guy, but he is still suspect #1 for El Zorillo.

I have to agree with the other commenters about Oblivio. I first saw him in Teresa and thought he was so cute but his acting was rather wooden. Then I happened to catch him in Amorcito Corazon and he was so funny and charming as Willyboy, I could not believe it was the same actor. I have to say that in this novela even though he's not too bright, he and AB have great chemistry together, I really like them as a couple.

Chemistry, really? I don't see it. If the actors were to switch characters, there would be more chemistry between Octavio and MariCrAle. The actor playing Eduardo just seems to exude sexy and hot even though right now he's being a real jerk. Ricardo Franco and Ana Brenda would sizzle on the screen, IMO. Just my opinion, of course.

Thumbs up IMO, MC/MA, Solita, Luciafer
Thumbs down Oblivio, 1st time I have seen this actor & I must say he is pretty bad. His big emotional scene in Ramiro's ruins was blah. The mono is a better actor. I know, a lot of it is Mrs. Mejia's bargain basement writers. But many actors overcome the bad writing.

This comment has been removed by the author.

I also would like to see Richardo Franco as a galan. It's a shame the writers didn't include more scenes with Eduardo romancing Aracely. They developed that relationship much too quickly.

BTW: If anybody's interested, I've made some flashcards with words (mostly) from this telenovela:

http://www.spanishdict.com/flashcards

Some words just take forever to get into my brain, and I'm hoping this tool will help.

Teo
I agree he is Suspect Número Uno for the Zorillo crimes. What remains to be seen is if he will "pay" for the crimes. Robbery is robbery, but for know I am fine with it because I dislike his victims. Raiza and Carola kind of deserve it (disclaimer: I missed a month so I don't know of his other victims.)

Tav
I will admit that while his skills in dramatic roles has improved since Teresa Daniel Arenas is much better in lighter roles like Willy. I see chemistry between him and AB...something I never saw between AB and Aaron Diaz in Teresa.

MariCrAle
I am quickly becoming a fan of AB. She was fabulous in LQNPA and now she's doing a great job with this role.

Eduarecely
Again, I've missed a month...but I'm not feeling it. From Aleta's comments I gather they threw these two together quickly with no real "courtship". I hate it when writers do that. Convince me first. Don't just throw it in my lap and say "These two love each other. Trust us on this one."

I do not have discerning tastes (as I have often said), so I still love this show and barely notice it's shortcomings. lol.

Oh brother...

"...for NOW I'm fine with it."

I missed some of the earlier shows and don't know why don Alej gave MC up? Did he do it or her mother, and were they married?

After watching and asking my instructor and a Latino friend what 'corneya"meant, finally figured it out...."Con Ella". I listen closely and I still hear an "r" in there somewhere.

Even though Maricruz hates and despises Lucia, she must have some respect for Lucia's taste in clothing because because the outfit she chose to wear to the Emir's little shindig could have come directly out of Lucia's closet.

I'm surprised that Octavio wasn't more outraged than he seemed to be over that scrawled note that Lucia composed and the Maricruz lookalike transcribed. After that, how can he possible trust a thing that she says.

So glad that Solita's education is coming along. Isn't it about time that she reveal what happened to her at the hands of Eusebio? I am so looking forward to that little taste of justice.

I can't figure out what Maricruz's ultimate goal with the Emir might be. I'd think that once he discovers that she is pregnant that he'll either be very angry or just shrug his shoulders and move on.

Carlos

After that, how can he possible trust a thing that she says.

As if I didn't need more reason to be frustrated by Tav's torpeza mental.

In the words of Bugs Bunny: "what a maroon. "

I really like AnaBrenda and want Mari/Ale to have her happily ever after. And I like Daniel Arenas, (especially after Amorcito Corazon,) but he's making it hard, hard, hard to root for Octavio (torpeza mental is so true). Still, I think he's a better choice than the Emir. I keep hoping he gets it together and can grow into his galan status.

La Paloma I couldnt agree with you more...I hope he grows more as they have shown with MA/MC.

I also echo everyone else in saying how much I have been liking AB recently. I didnt really care for her much in Sortilegio but I really loved LQNPA and she's not doing bad here either.

I dont know what MC/MA goal with Emir yet either...maybe she will teach him humility and how money and power cannot buy you everything. While I believe that AB/DA have chemistry...Emir is a much more interesting and SMART character for the moment so I'm always interested in their conversations.

Carlos, how could I have forgotten Octavio's non-reaction to the forged note? And indeed to all of Lucia's about how well Maricruz was doing? For Octavio, having become aware of those lies, to now even consider believing Lucia's new lies is insane.

What's Octavio thinking? "Oh, yes, I realize now that Lucia was lying when she was talking about how well Maricruz was doing, but I believe that now she's telling the truth about how she suddenly turned nice to Maricruz once I left town and about Maricruz's supposed crimes."

Emeraldrose- Don Ale didn't give MC up. Her mother, Lupita, for some reason thought he was cheating on her, and left him, taking MC with her, and returning to her little town and shack with her father.

Don Ale wrote her letters begging for her return. She refused to answer them or to return to him. She changed MA's name to MC and took away Ale's surname from Mari. It seems Don Ale gave up on Lupita returning to him at some point, and shifted the focus to just finding his daughter. There are a lot of unanswered questions, that will never be answered because they are due to poor writing:
- Why did it take so long for Don Ale to get a detective to the Tamaulipas region to ask questions about MA/MC, when he has always known that's the region Lupita came from (he sent letters there!)?
- Why the heck did it take so long, when it appears it has always been his wish to be reunited with his wife and child?
- Why did he give up on getting back together with Lupita, and why has he not directed his detective to find her too? I have not seen any conversation when he speaks of knowing that Lupita died.

Then, of course we could ask questions about him and Tobi not immediately realizing Mari was his daughter, since she looks EXACTLY like Lupita, but we would be here all day asking logical questions. So let's stop there. :)

Emir is a much more interesting and SMART character for the moment so I'm always interested in their conversations.

I second that! I love their conversations.

Thank you CeCe

I know that it's late and just about everything has been said but
I loved this novela 110% from day one, I have to add a few words.

It was MC's destiny. Yeah right, propelled on by wild eyed lucifer.

I liked---in your dreams buddy...in
fact, not even there.

She thinks that Karim doesn't care
about her heart but her body---Right on Maricruz 100%

MariAle accuses Corola of cooking the books---what isn't clear to me,
if this is true--why? Is Corola skimming or is she just trying to make things look a little better for DonAle?

Cara C.---A head of garlic has more brain cells. LOL

daisynjay---Rules of warfare: never
tell your enemy what you are thinking. Good point.

Carlos---What will Karim do when he finds out that Maricruz is pregant? Will he leave her? My guess is not a chance. For him, it's all about conquest. He has power and massave amounts of money.
My guess is also that he has NEVER LOST and for him to loose this time/conquest, it would be devastating to his ego. Pregnant or not, he isn't going to loose. well, we know he will, but he doesn't.

Vivi---Dude! Look at Santa [her name even tells you she's a saint.]

And while I'm on the subject of Santa, It looked like she put up a pretty good fight against wild eyes lucifer last night but still she didn't convince one brain cell Oblivio. If I had been Santa, I would have called Lucia a disciple
of satan with a black soul. That may have woke up that one brain cell of Tav's.

Oh and guess what? Just yesterday,
I came across a March 2013 issue of Popular Science magazine. the cover headline article is
"Rewiring the Brain" Should I send it on to Octavio? Could it help?
the gringo

LOL Gringo!

About the books-- Carola is giving Don Ale reports that show that the casino is earning less than it's really earning, but Maricruz knows from her own observations that it's earning more. She knows there must be a correct listing of profits somewhere, and she wants to see it. Carola is apparently skimming money in order to grow her own fortune so that she can buy the casino from Ale.

ViVi- Thank you so much for the background. I missed all of that completely, Possibly because I have been guessing at a lot of it before I discovered Caray Caray.

Again, I love this site and all who participate.

Vivi, thanks for clearing that up about Teo not hiring the robber--sometimes I tune out Carola's conversations... I guess I should pay more attention!

I actually cheered out loud when I saw Solita getting sign language lessons! Now we'll get to "hear" more of her character, and what she knows could really complicate (or clear up) some things!

Thanks CeCe. I have just caught up and my head is reeling a little from a 4 episode marathon this afternoon/eve.

I'm still enjoying this TN mucho. Tav is not smart, but I think he's going to start being more proactive now and more MC worthy --I hope. I do think Tav and MC/MA make a good couple.

I'm not sure how anyone can like watching the Eduardo character with Aracely. I liked the actor enough in AB, but he's doing a good job in making me dislike him in this show. The only thing I'll say for him is that he seems to be a relatively good friend to Tav.

I was also very happy to see Solita getting lessons in sign language as well. Yea!

Barbara

Though MC's 3 dresses never bothered me as it did some, I am enjoying MC/MA's wardrobe as well as all the other pretty dresses the women are wearing to the casino.

The music played when "Alteza" appears makes me laugh every time.

I don't think Oblivio actually disbelieved Santa, he just wasn't wrapping his brain around the whole scenario. That's not suprising.....Tav doesn't know he's in a telenovela.  I myself would have trouble believing someone would do this to another person, especially my brother and his wife. Just give Tav a little time to process this info. I'm an optimist. I think even if he doesn't get lots smarter, he's gonna start showing us more and more what a good guy he is.

The music played when "Alteza" appears makes me laugh every time.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I thoroughly enjoy all the music, really.

I love the wardrobe too.

I guess I'm blind/inexperienced because this production doesn't look too "budget" to me: great sets (despite duplicates), great clothes, great music.

Oh, I do admit that the jewelry that the Emir sent over was very unimpressive.

I took enjoy the music despite it being over-the-top and utterly dramatic. I cannot take Emir seriously when that music comes on though! I am interested in how he plans on conquering MC/MA because we all know he will not give up. Those unimpressive jewels did not work....maybe he will try to actually get jewels worth that ridiculous amount next time.

I am interested in how he plans on conquering MC/MA because we all know he will not give up.

I wonder if he will conquer her or threaten her. At some point I expect Tav and Emir's paths to cross. (Conjecture, not spoiler.)

I'm also wondering if this remake will deviate wildly from the original (of which I know very little.)

just got a chance to read the post and just wanted to say great recap cece! I agree that the emir is somewhat amusing with his arrogance. It would be cool if he upgraded his thinking and actually became a real friend & ally to MC.

Daisynjay, I think that I heard miguel say to octavio that the money he sent was put into a bank account.

UtahDesert, haha ITA "Self-loathing becomes Octavio. He looked very attractive in the first scene of this episode. And then he blew it all by being more or less stupid for the rest of it."

He's pretty cute, and I'm with all of ya'll about how charming his character was on AC. He was always so funny to watch.

I really don't have a problem with MC's Isla Dorada wardrobe versus her suitcase size. Even if she hasn't been (off-screen) shopping while there, why would we assume that she had to tote all her belongings with her on the plane ride? Given the level at which Don Ale is supporting her (first the lovely two-level hotel suite, then the equally luxurious rental house), I'm sure that Tobias would have just arranged to have additional things shipped to her. That rolling suitcase she arrived with was just the equivalent of her overnight case.

As for Eduardo and Araceli, well, I find Araceli unattractive and annoying. She has no particular redeeming features. (I try not to make too many comparisons with Amor Bravio, but Araceli compares so badly to the AB ingenue, Luzma.)

CorgiMom---your comment, "I myself
would have trouble believing someone would do this to another person, especially my brother and his wife." While everyone has been saying how dumb Octovio is, 2 brain cells,
1 brain cell, 1/2 of a brain cell. I have had the same thoughts as you---It's his family.
My family wouldn't do that. Maybe
this isn't the whole reason that Tav hasn't seen the light but it certainly is a big part of it.

I'm also with you about MC's 3 dresses. Those 3 dresses didn't bother me even a little. I have said it before that Ana Brenda/MC
would look beautiful in anything. For me, those 3 dresses portrayed the simple country life that she was living beautifully.

Oh! I like that idea!! But only if he learns to master his arrogance.

Sorry, meant to include this comment with the previous one..

I find Araceli unattractive and annoying.

She's cute enough. I don't find her annoying. In fact, I have now opinion at all. I'm neutral....which for a TN is not a good thing. Make me love the character or hate the character; make me intrigued by the character, but don't make me apathetic to a character.

CeCe: Terrific recap and ITSA to all your snappy snarkist asides.
=====
SaraC. - Nice to see you're back and tracking with us!
=====
CorgiMom: I have to agree that El Torpe de Octavio is suffering from emotional shell shock, which admittedly puts those two brains cells of his at risk of being put on life support.
=======
Slap Forehead! Why didn't I think of sign language before Don Ale did?

El Comandante better have his affairs in order and his will signed, sealed and ready to deliver now. Santa did him no favors going off on Luciafer like she did.

@Sara C. - I brought up the issue of the "budget", but what I meant was that Mrs. Mejia needs to learn to balance out her budget, not that it's a "budget" novela - for a bargain-basement budget novela, watch the previous version named Marimar. Re balancing her budget, Mrs. Mejia has a tendency (not just in C.I., but in other novelas she has produced) to spend a lot on extravagant locations early on, and then she seems to run out of money for other things. I'm sure she spent a bundle on the Isla Dorada location shoots, esp. for the Emir's massive mansion and for use of the boat.

Also, re: your previous comment about becoming an Ana Brenda fan, I'm such a huge fan that I have watched four of AB's novelas in the past 1 1/2 years. The first novela I saw Ana Brenda in was TERESA and, seriously, after about a week I started asking myself why SHE wasn't the lead, since she is a WAY better actress than Angelique Boyer. I found out later that AB auditioned for the lead in Teresa, but Teresa's producer cast A. Boyer because he had a thing for her, and in fact the two of them became lovers while Teresa was still in production (and remain together after 3 years). Fortunately, that same producer cast AB in the lead in LQNPA. I thought AB was fabulous in LQNPA, and deserved more credit for its success than she got, since Jorge Salinas seemed to get the bulk of the credit (he definitely deserved credit, but not all of it). After LQNPA, I saw AB as the villain Maura in Sortilegio - not a huge role but, again, in my view AB is a WAY better actress than Jackie Bracamontes. AB also auditioned for that lead, but the producer Carla Estrada wanted to cast in the lead an actress that was well-known like J. Bracamontes, since her leading man was going to be then-newcomer William Levy. AB was not yet known well enough, plus she was just coming off from her lead in Juro Que Te Amo, which was NOT a hit. In fact, JQTA was such a ratings failure that to this day many people don't realize that JQTA was AB's first lead, not LQNPA. I've seen bits and pieces of JQTA and even I don't have the stomach to watch the whole thing. The problem with it is not AB, it's her leading man on it - none other than Jose Ron, who was even worse on JQTA than he was on LQNPA, and I could barely stand him as Gustavo on LQNPA. He is beyond awful on JQTA.

It's a pity I don't have time to comment here much, but I love reading the recaps and the comments. Thank you, recapping team and posters alike for your heroic efforts to make Octavio a deserving galan.

Barbara-CorgiMom, I'm glad I'd finished my coffee. I couldn't let this one pass without repeating it:
Tav doesn't know he's in a telenovela. I'm still laughing and pondering the possibilities if he ever does realize it. It's great you are an optimist!

Latina ITA with you on AB.
I haven't watched JQTA but a friend who watched told me the best thing about it was the opening credits.
But it was a MaPat novella and she tends to mess up even those TNs that started out good, like she did with the LMDV and end up producing a second or third rate series at the end.

AB was faboulus in LQNPA and very good at Teresa and a credible antagonist in Sorteleigo. Nevertheless I must say Boyer - and I'm not a great fan - was a very good Teresa much better than the goody two-shoes Elisa in Abismo where the two main couples were the worst of the cast and the bad guys carried it on their backs - and the padre of course.

jlk--"I think that I heard miguel say to octavio that the money he sent was put into a bank account." You heard right.

@Irisz79 - I agree with your friend that the opening credits were the best thing on JQTA. I know I didn't see the whole thing, but I saw the previous version of it ("Los Parientes Pobres" with Lucero and Ernesto LaGuardia) so I searched online for the episodes of JQTA that I expected to have the best scenes with the leading couple (AB and Jose Ron) and those scenes were VERY disappointing, more than anything because of Ron's PATHETIC acting. It was beyond awful.

Re: Angelique Boyer, I agree she was good as Teresa. I didn't say she was bad, just that AB is a better actress than her, IMHO. Some may disagree, and that's fine. But, like you, I couldn't stand A. Boyer's role in ADP. Believe me, I tried ADP but I gave up on that one pretty early on.

LatinainMD-Thanks for the explanation. Clearly I misunderstood. Forgive me? So Mrs. Mejia is spending her budget on dresses right now, right? I'm kind of looking forward to seeing the end of this one now...just to see the funding run out.

Funny you should mention JQTA. I tried to watch the DVD...and couldn't get past the first 10-ish minutes. I am not a fan of Jose Ron AT ALL. He was the biggest reason I had to stop watching LQNPA for a bit.

I hope AB gets cast in all the TNs from now until eternity! I'm starting to become a real fan girl.

@Sara C. - unfortunately, C.I. may be the last novela we see Ana Brenda in, at least for a long while. She got married in April to a professional bullfighter. Although he is Mexican, he resides in Spain most of the time, so she is moving there with him after she finishes shooting C.I. and they hold their planned "religious" wedding in December.
