Qué Bonito Amor #54 (Mex 80.2-81) Thursday 6/27/13 Que Triste Despedida

Jantos finally gets to see his ailing mama.  Justo has stopped blaming Jantos for the crimes he didn't commit and has now decided to blame him for being an idealistic trusting fool.

Fabiano has called Victoriano to report that Ruben's neglecting bidness in favor of chasing a skirt.  Fabian's under orders to get Ruben's house in order.

Wendy asks Jantos' forgiveness for not believing in his innocence.  "I have nothing to forgive you for.  I know what it's like now to be in love…."  Come on, man!  Don't go so easy on her!  He's too busy being dazzled by the miracle of new life. He has a little chat with the fetus, introducing himself as the uncle.

LA cops visit Orange Giuliano to inform him they're investigating Bruno's and Arnold's deaths.  OG plays it cool.

Jantos calls Maria's house and demands that Colosso let him talk to Mario.  The jackass tells Jantos that Maria can't talk to him and hangs up the phone.  Maria demands to know who was on the phone and Colosso actually admits it.   Jantos hits redial as Maria's telling Colosso to step the hell off!  He passes her the phone this time and we're treated to a Mi Amor symphony with an encore of Te Amo.  "I miss you."  "I miss you more."  "No, I miss you more!"  Wendy overhears Jantos' end of the conversation.  Maria reminds Colosso for the millionth time that she loves Jantos and he needs to quit trying to separate them.  Colosso blames his heart and Maria refuses to forgive him this time.

Jantos describes Maria to Wendy.  He gives her his condolences about Bruno, who Wendy now believes never loved her and was only in it for the money.  Jantos likes the idea of Michael being the baby daddy.

Wendy tells OG that Jantos is in the house and promises to keep their conversation a secret.

Colosso has a cock fight with Ruben.  Or tries to.  Ruben doesn't take Colosso very seriously,

Jantos reviews the financials and feels like an idiot.

The Godfather sends his goons to pick up OG.

Jantos tells Altagracia about Maria.

Maria reminisces about Jantos.

Altagracia says her goodbyes.  Then she sees the light…don't go toward the light, Altagracia!  Don't go toward the light!  And she dies.  And Wendy cries.  Well, the guys do too, but they do it in a less whiny, silent sort of way.  Oh, no, wrong…Jantos steals a little of Wendy's drama queen thunder.  "Why?  Why?  Whyyyyyyy?!!!!!!!"  I know.  I'm right there with you.  Damn writers.  Line 'em up and I'll kick 'em all in the shins.

Aw, crap!  Amalia's not going to wake up.  Or so says the doctor.  Maria tells Paloma they've got to pray like they've never prayed before.  Come on, the Virgen's not going to let it go down like this.

Colosso serves Roddy the dinner he cooked.  It's fine, but Roddy's still bummed that Paloma won't forgive him. Oh, hell no!  DO NOT take love advice from Colosso!  He suggests a serenata, cause chicks can't resist that.  And he says he'll take care of everything.  Oh, goody.

The Godfather sends a couple of his guys to verify OG's story that Santos is in town.

Curtis gives Derecho the news that Altagracia has died.  Derecho thinks Jantos will be there soon…if he's not there already.

The Godfather threatens to mess up OG's pretty, pretty face and make him a little less popular with the ladies.  The Godfather sees OG's killing of his own family as proof that OG ain't gonna cry when it's his turn.

Curtis tells Derecho the same gun was used to kill both Bruno and Arnold.

Crying in the Mendoza apartment.  Paloma is still pissed at Roddy and she doesn't want to kiss lips that have (ALLEGEDLY!) touched Vanessa's.  Maria has to explain that being kissed and kissing back are two different things.  Isa opines that Roddy probably kissed back.  Shut it, Isa.  Maria goes to throw up, cause she's preggers.  Cause people in telenovelas are immune to food poisoning or flu.

The Martinez de la Garzas mourn for Altagracia.  Justo blames himself for what happened to Jantos.  He can't believe Gracia is gone.  Oops!  The LA cops walk in.  AWKWARD!  Justo reminds Derecho that Gracia just died, but Derecho's got a job to do.  Jantos even volunteers to go willingly, but Justo pulls the "This office is Mexican territory."  So Derecho says having Jantos there makes Justo an accomplice.  Jantos tells daddy to chill and asks the cops for a minute to say goodbye.

Of course, Maria THINKS she ate something bad.  Colosso and Roddy come over and Isa announces that Maria's feeling sick.  Roddy tests the waters and Paloma's alleged indifference only proves she's still soooo into him.  Roddy's all "Whatevs!  I'm not going anywhere near Vanessa, cause she's just as capricious as you are!"

Jantos calls Maria's to tell her that his mother died.  And that he's not going to be back for a very long time.  So he called to say goodbye, because they won't see each other for a very long time. Not because he doesn't love her, but because the situation is out of his control.  Maria feels betrayed, natch.  She tells him to have a nice life, hangs up the phone, and cries.

This is, apparently, Amalia's cue to recover from her brain-dead state.

Jantos tells Justo that Maria will never forgive him.  Justo tries to console/advise him, but Jantos has been hanging around too much with Wendy lately, so he whines, whines, whines.  In a manly way, though.

Amalia gets up and tries to head in the general direction of Maria's sobs, but she's pretty weak.  Maria's shocked to see her mother walking around and thanks the Virgen.  Amalia has no idea what happened to her.  Maria tells Amalia that Jantos has gone, never to return, and cries.

Milamores looks like utter crap.  But he won't go on the run.  Colosso advises him to leave the married women alone, already.

Amalia doesn't want to say "I told you so," but she says "I told you so."  Shut up, Amalia.  She tells Maria to cry it out and forget about Jantos.  Shut up, Amalia. And shut up, Maria.  And shut up, Jantos for being a big lying liar.  That's it, I've had it with all of them!  Who's left to root for that's not on my nerves…Susanito and Irasema, I guess.

Jantos has gotten himself all suited up.  He and Justo and Wendy say their goodbyes outside the house and walk out the front gate together.  He leaves the kid he crossed with in the care of Justo and Wendy.  Run, kid, run!  A pathetic little gaggle of photographers and reporters try to make Jantos turning himself in look like a really big deal.  I think you need more than 6 extras to achieve that effect.  The Padrino's guys watch Jantos get driven away by the cops.

Colosso crows, literally, about Jantos not coming back.  Shut.  Up.  Colosso!  Even Amalia wants him to shut up.  And when Amalia wants you to shut up….  Maria tells him to back off already.  She's in no mood to talk about it.  Despite looking like she's going to hurl at any given moment, she gets up to answer the door, where someone's kid (the grocer's?) is there to collect on what's owed.  The kid apologizes for having to collect ASAP, but his father really needs the money right now to pay his own debts.  Colosso takes a look at the sum and hands the kid some money.  It's twice what they owed.  Colosso says he ought to pay since his kid eats there a lot and he plans to be there a lot too.

Derecho and Curtis notice someone's following them. Jantos says they want him dead.  Dudes in black suits with big guns obligingly pour out of the black SUV.

Paloma, Isa and Roddy are all back at the apartment, glad that Amalia's back on her feet.  Mancia comes bursting in to turn on the TV, cause guess whose arrest just made the news.  Maria is impactada…still in her "Oh, crap, I'm gonna hurl" kind of way.

Tomorrow: Colosso goes after Milamores for knowing the truth; Maria faints on stage; the guys with guns open fire.

Sorry, y'all, it's another week when I haven't been able to keep up with watching the show or reading the recaps, so that explains any weirdness you may encounter.

Here's a link to the Facebook event page for the show Five Stages

See y'all in the morning.

Many thanks, 5 Footer. You had me laughing throughout, but these were my faves:

“Damn writers. Line 'em up and I'll kick 'em all in the shins.”

“Oh, hell no! DO NOT take love advice from Colosso!”

“Jantos has been hanging around too much with Wendy lately, so he whines, whines, whines. In a manly way, though.”

“ … but Justo pulls the "This office is Mexican territory." So Derecho says having Jantos there makes Justo an accomplice.” Apparently, along with many, many other things, Derecho doesn’t quite grasp the concept of ‘Mexican territory’. As in, Mexican territory where American laws don’t apply. As in, specifically, American laws about being an accomplice don’t apply. Really. I could do without this level of idiocy in a cop.

“Wendy overhears Jantos' end of the conversation.” Overhears? Not to nitpick or anything, but isn’t the word ‘eavesdrops’? She was so totally snooping.

“Jantos reviews the financials and feels like an idiot.” As well he should.

JAntos sure was vague with the descriptions of Maria to mom and sis. An angel. Beautiful. Yadda yadda. I guess he figured they weren’t quite ready for the details like she’s a performer in a bar and poor as a church mouse and has three dependents. I also noticed that he didn’t happen to tell mom that he already gave her an engagement ring.

“Maria feels betrayed, natch. She tells him to have a nice life, hangs up the phone, and cries.” And what she doesn’t do is listen to his explanations at ALL. She hangs up and cries and asks, WHY, WHY, WHY? Um, honey, if you hadn’t hung up on the dude, maybe you’d have a better idea of WHY, WHY, WHY. Just stating the obvio. ‘Cause apparently you need it.

You didn't miss a thing, Kat. No weirdness. One trait of this novela is that there is no ambiguity about anything. Agree with your asides as well.

I was cringing when Oscar suggested to Roddy that he do a serenata for Paloma because the timing would have been truly tacky as Amalia was still unconscious. Under other circumstances that would have been brilliant; he probably might have rented a traje for him, too.

Where Oscar is starting to gain ground as a father he is losing ground as any woman's lover. His behavior in this episode regarding Santos was atrocious. Even Amalia found it a turn-off so it was definitely beyond the beyond. I have been worried for a while that Maria might end up marrying him to have a father for JA Jr, which would be a huge mistake on her part.

I am finding it a turn-off that this producer is consistently casting Pablo Montero as a country bumpkin when he is more than worthy to be cast as someone with education and manners.

I hope Justo contacts Maria or at least Fernando. Maria needs to hear from him and she needs his help. Amalia needs medical attention and Maria will, too.

One more thing: Since when is there a TV set in the Mendoza abode? Wasn't there a suggestion in one of Isabel's hospital scenes that they didn't have one?

5ft excellent work, I almost fell off the chair.

" Maria goes to throw up, cause she's preggers. Cause people in telenovelas are immune to food poisoning or flu....Of course, Maria THINKS she ate something bad." - LOL ;)

So today she throws up and tomorrow she faints? When she's gonna realize, I wonder?

Colosso was over the top gloating so openly, Maria needs to slap him hard. If even Amalia thinks it too much, it's too much.

Urban, as I can remember at the hospital Isa was complaining their lack of channels not lack of TV. They might just have a very small or starter package.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

It is painful to watch Oscar gloating over "El Pochito" not returning. I can't wait for him to find out that Santos is actually Mexican-born and well-educated. And innocent of the accusations. I hope that doesn't take the entire rest of the series.

Either way we know Maria will have the baby before the wedding. Mancia needs to get the cards out again, but not right away.

What I am curious about is how familiar any of these characters could be about the US justice system. We know that in the real world Justo and his family would know it well, but how well would it be known to anyone like Oscar or Fernando?

Oscar's heart was mostly in the right place when he tried to take Ruben on, but he has no idea what he's stepping into. Of course Fernando needs to warn him about that and I'm trying to remember whether Santos told him about the connexion between Ruben and Giuliano.

We finally see El Padrino's face, although we all knew it would be Manuel Ojeda. I wonder what his final fate will be.

UA, I don't think the WRITERS are familiar with the US justice system, let alone any of the characters, including the LA cops, judges, lawyers, etc.

Coloso might not be so surprised at JA's background. He has no idea of just how elite JA's family is, but he knows he isn't one of them. Coloso was really suspicious of his family sending him so much money that he used to pay for Isa's hospitalization. And I think Coloso does know that JA was born in Monterrey. It was mentioned when they were first introduced. And he is using his favorite insult correctly; I had to look up 'pocho', but apparently it means someone from Mexico who left Mexico. (It also means rotten or brown fruit but you probably knew that.) I think part of his antagonism towards JA is because he senses he is not working class. He's very tribal in his thinking. He only likes or trusts people who are part of his social group(s).

Amalia may try to push Maria towards Coloso if she is indeed preggers, but I am going to hope that she isn't dumb enough to marry him. I can't see how anyone would see him as husband material.

irisz, yes, I agree that was what Isa was griping about. I doubt they would pay for cable, so it was the lack of it altogether, I thought. I actually was surprised they had a color TV because you still see black and white ones in Mexico.

Coloso interfering with that telephone call bugged me even more than the gloating. That was doing real harm, not just being an ass. I was glad that Maria wouldn't pardon him. Jerk.

Does Justo even know Maria's name?

Justo needs to contact Fernando and fill him in on what's going on. Not that anyone will listen to Fer, though. Looks like he'll be on the outs with everyone.

And Irony did a ballroom dance when Maria advised Paloma to hear Roddy out.

This show should be renamed NOBODY LISTENS, because nobody listens.

I think the discovery that JAntos is actually a very wealthy man will change the dynamic of his interactions with everyone (except Fernando) when he returns because now everyone will now that he is actually a very wealthy man.

Lourdes will probably encourage Elvira to go after Santos, now that she knows he's loaded.

Oscar's feathers will be even more ruffled up because he wouldn't be competing against Poor Pochito, he'd be competing with a wealthy man.

The Mariachi Gang may feel uneasy around Santos, because he's not of their class.

Ruben & Fabian will understand why Jorge Alfredo never felt inferior to them or acted as though he was of the same station in life as they: because he's the same class (if not higher) than they.

Santos is going to have to recourt Maria, though, because he lied to her and he's not who he says he was. If she gets past all that, Amalia will just be whispering in her ear about Santos just being a rich man slumming with a poor plaything. And if the Mendoza Gang ever traveled up to USA to get the lowdown on Santos, they'd be intimidated by the Garza family wealth.

I'm still waiting for somebody to see Wendy with Santos in the pictures and tell Maria that Wendy is Santos' wife or girlfriend.

Now, on to LOLAPD:

Justo has told Curtis & Derecho that somebody is trying to kill Santos. He offered up the tampered plane as proof.

Bruno & Arnold testified against Santos. Michael did not and got 8 years in prison. Bruno was killed with a high powered rifle. Justo told Curtis & Derecho that Bruno gave OJ a high powered rifle as a gift.

Curtis & Derecho know that Santos is not in the United States at the time of Bruno's murder.

LAPD questions Arnold about OJ having a high powered rifle, Arnold confirms. Now Arnold turns up dead, killed by the same high powered rifle as Bruno.

Now they are transporting Santos to the police station, when vans pull up, cut them off. When Santos says "Hey they're trying to kill me" Curtis/Derecho claim maybe they're trying to help him escape. Now men with assault weapons jump out the van and approach Curtis/Derecho vehicle, ready to light them up.

Will Curtis/Derecho FINALLY believe that somebody is trying to get Santos, or will they claim Santos is behind this ambush too?

And what's going to happen with Salvador?

5ft - Thanks. "Damn writers. Line 'em up and I'll kick 'em all in the shins."--lol

Didn't Maria and Santos do it just a week ago? And already she has pregnancy symptoms?

I too hope Maria doesn't marry Colosso just to give the baby a name. Also, hoping that Derecho & Curtis rethink their assumptions about Santos if they survive the shootout.

While that information isn't being trumpeted to high heaven, it wouldn't be difficult for anyone to find out that Wendy is Santos' sister.

He will have to recourt Maria. She is intelligent enough to realize that his disclosure of the truth at the outset could have made her an accomplice and put her in a bad legal position. The biggest obstacle to her processing that is Amalia, though.

Absolutely right about Lourdes changing her mind and encouraging Elvirus to continue to pursue Santos. Unfortunately, unless Maria can see reason quickly, she's not likely to fight her very hard.

Niecie, I don't have a way to check this, but I think that there is a time jump that got edited out. And some women get symptoms in three weeks.

I dearly hope that Santos doesn't take the chance of trying to escape to run back to Mexico and Maria at this shooting incident. What I would write would be to have him save Derecho's or Curtis' life. They don't seem intelligent enough to do that themselves.

I'm really annoyed with Maria not only for not listening, but for dumping a guy whose mother just died. That is low.

I guess it's inferred that Oscar is a player but I actually think he'd probably be a good husband to Maria, Gloria or whoever else.

Oscar, Amalia & Ruben all "knew" that Jorge Alfredo was not of the lower or working classes.

I'm interested to see Concho's reaction to Jorge Alfredo's true identity.

Fernando is going to become more important to Jorge Alfredo than ever because Fernando is the only link between Jorge Alfredo & the Mariachi Gang. I hope he can get in touch with Justo and get the lowdown.

Ms Five Pies--Never say you are sorry when you don't need to say you are sorry. Divine intervention is working in your favor--you got a pretty clear cut episode to recap. Fine work and lots of needed humor.

It looks as though I'm batting 0 of 4 in the prediction department:
1. Justa was not dead--yet; she waited until last night and Justo had time to kiss her goodbye.
2. Ruben did not buy the building Maria is living in.
3. On cue, Amalia gets up in a fresh nightgown, robe, hair coiffed and make-up in place and narry a hint of having been declared almost brain dead 15 min. ago.
4. We didn't have to wait 5 weeks from the time Maria and Jorge Alfredo made love for her to learn she's pregnant. What has it been, a week?

About Justo and his Mexican territory. Most consuls have offices in buildings. A country as important as Mexico with a city as big as El Lay on its doorstep, you'd think he'd have a whole office building for his work. A home office? Puleeze.

In Santos' case, we still don't know if he has dual citizenship, so it's dicey. Can he be arrested for being an American on American soil or are the LAPD making a teeny error arresting (why aren't they just asking him to come down for questioning) a Mexican citizen on Mexican soil. I guess it's moot after last night. They did. Glad to see Sal was left with the Garzas.

How come there was no serenata? Did it happen and we weren't party to it? I wanted to hear Roddy sing again. Instead we get the spatting young love birds trying to make up in the apartment.

UA--I have been contemplating this, too, for awhile. You said, "I have been worried for a while that Maria might end up marrying him to have a father for JA Jr, which would be a huge mistake on her part." After what she told Ruben about the sanctity of marriage and that it is forevvva, civil divorce laws or no, if she *does* marry Coloso (which I strongly doubt, but may feel pressured into it by Amalia) and Jorge Alfredo returns, she will find herself hoisted on her own petard.

Infuriating episode. We jumped the gun on Gracia's death but only by one night. I'm absolutely convinced the wrong mother died. I simply could not believe that Amelia would tell her sobbing daughter I told you so. Really low. And Coloso being equally pleased. The pair of them make me sick. They now head my S**t list and I see no hope of them ever getting off. While Ruben, Fabnot OJ and the Godfather are rotten characters they are at least consistent while Coloso and Amelia are two-faced hypocrites. OK off soap box.

I always reach as point in a novela where I hate one of the protagonists for being a stupid, unworthy idiot. 99 percent of the time it is the galan but here it is Maria. SHE NEVER LISTENS! She hangs up the phone before a devastated JAntos can finish what he is saying and them jumps to the wrong conclusion. She makes me sick. At this point she doesn't deserve to ever wear Santos' great-grandmother's ring.

If she has the brains god gave a head of lechuga I hope she remembers all the times JAntos tried to tell her something and how she cut him off and told him she didn't want to hear.

Coloso goes to beat the bejeebers out of an already beaten Fernando because he knew the truth. I hope that Fernando makes them all sit down and hear the story as he knows it. Santos has lost everything, his mother, his business, his friends in the US, his reputation, his idiot bonita and it would be cruel that he lose the noble poor (his words) friends and family in Mexico.

I agree that now the dynamic between Santos and the barrio folks will change which is sad. They will probably feel betrayed that he didn't tell them who he was without acknowledging he did it to protect the people he loves. He is also wealthy, highly educated and from a distinguished family. They may feel that when he had money and used it to help them that he was just throwing around charity. I do hope that some of them will be able to look at him and recognize who he is deep inside, the JA they cared about. I pretty much feel that the old ladies, Sue and Irasema, Fernando and Isa will be on his side while Ruben, Fab not, the wenches, Maria and Amelia will not and as for Lourdes and Trampira fits all around for not being able to get their hands on the rich dude.

Oh for heaven sakes nausea what after three or four days? Maybe it was just nerves. As for the faint I think that is one of those soul connections and happens when JA preumably is shot. I don't think there was a time lapse unless it happened after the deed and before the message but i seem to remember those happening at the same time. i also seem to remember Mommy Dearest telling Maria the next day that she would suppot her marrying JAntos and he arrived to tell her he had to leave. Then again maybe we are on TN Time which never makes any sense.

I meant Altagracia, of course.

I think Justo had some very wise advise for Santos when he said (to paraphrase) if she doesn't believe in you, it isn't love and she isn't worth the bother.

And now, a Shakespeare moment:

" ... Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! It is an ever-fixèd mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken ..."

Concho is probably going to go into shock on some level, but I have no sense of whether he will tell Elvirus to back off or not. Once he knows that Maria is pregnant, though, he might think he's in the clear about stealing the half of the bar that rightfully belongs to her. That is, if she marries Santos.

I have to believe that Santos has dual citizenship due to the length of his residency and the value of his business. Before running from the pending charges there was nothing to suggest that he had any intention of returning to Mexico to live. However, I don't think this will affect the charges or the sentence if Derecho and Curtis decide he's guilty.

Which is going to be hard to disprove now that Bruno, Arnold, and Altagracia are all dead and stupid Wendy has betrayed Santos to Giuliano.

Carolina

I too was struck by Justo's wise advise to Santos it was in such contrast to Amelia telling Maria to just forget about him. And good old Will didn't get wrong either.

Thinking back on the scene with the cops and Justo last night I did a little research.

Diplomatic immunity has a lot of provisions but
Diplomats and their immediate family can not be

-arrested or detained

- their residences entered and searched

-subpoenaed or forced to be witnesses

-prosecuted

There are varying levels of privilege between Embassy and Consular staff and families but the cops were wrong in entering Justo's home and trying to arrest Santos. And for what it is worth the BP should not have forced Justo to open his car trunk either. I guess for story telling purposes the writers think it is perfectly all right to violate laws.

I can only assume that Justo's home office is just that because I know for a fact that there is a big consular office in LA and even my city has an office outside of the consul's home. Again probably used for plot purposes

No, what's actually lower is Amalia giving Jorge Alfredo the stink eye for leaving. I'm pretty sure Jorge Alfredo told Maria he had to leave because his mother was dying.

I'm pretty sure Maria would have told Amalia that Jorge Alfredo was leaving because his mother was dying.

So if Amalia has this information that the man's mother was dying, and still had a stank attitude towards him for leaving to see his dying mother, well, I just.... can't.

Perhaps Amalia thinks that was a lie. Well, Santos' family is high profile enough that they would be able to quickly find out if Gracia really did die. They were certainly high profile enough to be arrested in the US and being on breaking news in Mexico City.

That's where Fernando comes in: Fernando will have to fill in the gaps for Maria & the Mariachi Gang, if they will listen to him.

Anon

I think we are all praying that Fernando steps up and tells what he knows. It is criminally unfair if all of them especially Isa are left for who knows how long with a wrong impression.

Was thinking about that TV broadcast and saying International Criminal captured - oh please a respectable journalist would never make a positive statement like that. It would be accused or suspected. I did laugh about the small crowd of people outside the house and though with JAntos' luck they'll get a shot of him embracing Weepy and Maria would see it and assume he had another mujer. The Mendoza's specialize in jumping to conclusions.

The only hope that Santos has of Derecho and Goofy believing him is if he gets shot. Derecho noticed them being followed and with the illogical way his brain works he could well have thought that Santos called his gang to come and rescue him. If on the other he gets shots MAYBE he will listen to what Santos and Justo have to say.

That is the key point.

Susanito is no problem there; he knows Santos is a decent human being. The jury is out on the other mariachis; I never know whom they side with on anything.

Isabel knows that Santos is a good guy. She's got the best IQ in that whole family.

Rodrigo will probably be on his side; he's old enough so he doesn't have to cave to Oscar over this.

Irasema will be on Santos' side, too. The old ladies also.

Amalia will never be convinced, nor Mancia. I'm amazed that Mancia hasn't asked Amalia why she didn't convince Maria to enter a convent.

The only real wild card is Maria, who will now be more vulnerable to Oscar's pursuit. I agree that Amalia will probably try to pressure her into marrying him. If that happens I'll bet it's never consummated.

However much a cliche that would be, it would be her best protection against Ruben. If Fernando tells Oscar everything, Oscar will know that.

Funny how one episode can touch a nerve and you find yourself nitpicking every scene. This was one of those.

I'm willing to be that tonight Amelia the Merciless will be all over Maria the Faithless about how that horrible man lied to her and kept secrets. That infuriates me becasue both she and Maria are keeping a bigger much worse secret - the story of Isa. Santos is a victim, they are perpetrators. They didn't steal the hild but they have kept her and never reported it. That's a crime almost anywhere.

UrBan

You and i have the same take on the characters. I don't care much either way with the mariachi gang who seem to be under Coloso's thumb anyway. They re just white noise in the overall story.

The perfect answer if Fernando doesn't talk is for Manci to simply read the cards for Santos. The tarot will tell all. LOL

As for cluche forcing the unmarried pregnant girl to marry a man she doesn't love - Amelia will definitly push for it. It is an interesting counterpoint to Gracia who told Wendy to think about it with Michael because she knows he has loved her for a long time and would treat her well.

Interesting comparison between Mike and Oscar.

My other issue about the possibility of Oscar marrying Maria is whether he would be faithful to her. While we haven't seen him fooling around with anyone other than Elvirus I have to wonder at the amount of temptation that would present itself to him. Not that it would be on the same level as that which the real Pablo Montero faces, but let's face it: A handsome guy with talent is always a target for female lust.

We don't have these doubts about Mike.

You raise a great point about Isabel. I am not sure how soon a child should find out about being adopted but Amalia should not have just taken her in without having reported it to some authority. Maria was probably under 18 at the time (just a guess) so she would get a pass.

This is something that someone can hold over Amalia's head. I'm wondering whether Ruben knows because he is the only one with a motive.

Urban

You don't have to even be a handsome guy with talent, if you are well known in your area that's enough for some of our sisters.

I really can't see St. Maria getting married just to give her baby, if there is to be one, a name. She still thinks marriage is a once in a lifetime thing. As for marrying Oscar as a shield against Ruben, I don't think marriage plays any part in Ruben's thinking. Hoping in the sack yes but forever after no, especially since he knows Santos took her innocence. I definitely cannot see Ruben as the type to raise another man's child especially a man he hates. Also Ruben has been put on notice by Fabnot to focus on the biz and not the chica in the barrio and if he screws up Fabnot will turn on him in an instant.

I would never assume that Ruben would marry Maria; he's enough of a snob to not even consider it. However, I don't see him trying to pursue Maria if she were married to Oscar, who clearly has the other guys in his corner.

He might even shrink from the idea once it is known that Maria is pregnant. We don't know how many times he has cheated on his wife in the past but I'll bet the first time was during her first pregnancy.

Fabian's already turned on him. Ruben found out and is plotting payback.

Anon

Fabnot is definitely more interested in the business and when Rub got on him he pointedly told him he was taking orders from the Godfather. Rub may be ticked at his sidekick but he is apparently on thin ice with the GF so I don't see him pulling an OJ and offing his associate.

ROTFLOL funny, Kat!

Was glad to see Maria even had a t.v. to catch the news. We gotta figure she can put 2+2 together and keep the faith with JAntos. Let's hope Mil Amores has a chance to fill in the blanks before Amalia emotionally browbeats Maria over this. Amalia should have just stayed in her damned coma!

I agree.

Altagracia should not have died. She would have loved Maria. But it was the only thing that would have driven Santos back to El Lay.
