Qué Bonito Amor #51 (Mex 76-77.1) Monday 6/24/13

Más y Más Lagrimas

Luna llena

Jorge Alfredo and Maria enjoy bonito amor to ranchera music (“Entre Tus Brazos”).

Proximo Dia

Mendoza Apartment: Amalia looks at a family photo as she thinks about Maria going her own way. Maria enters and she promises her blessing for her to marry Jorge Alfredo. Happy music for the moment but the anvil approaches.

Jorge Alfredo's Apartment: He talks to Roddy about Oscar. Roddy still doesn't want to accept Oscar as his father. He tries to convince the boy that rancor eats up the soul and it isn't good to hold onto it. Roddy looks like he might listen.

Oscar's Apartment: He thinks about Roddy and how he has to win his trust in order to look good to Maria.

Office: Maria talks to a lawyer about the abuses her landlord is inflicting on her mother.

Internet Café: Jorge Alfredo reads Justo's e-mail and gets the devastating news that his mother may not have long to live. He thinks to himself he has to see her.

Garza Mansion, Master Bedroom: Altagracia is desperate to see Santos; Justo tries to assure her that miracles happen.

Outside Maria's Building: She catches Don Braulio checking the property, which he wants to tear down and build a parking facility. She lets him know she brought an action against him.

School: Paloma's teacher gives her another chance. However, she is expected to apologise to Vanessa, who whines that Paloma would not be sincere. Paloma does not want to apologise to this junior bitch, but she does. , even taking the blame. They are forced to shake hands. Vanessa gloats while Paloma does a slow burn.

Mendoza Apartment: Jorge Alfredo arrives to tell her he has to leave. She asks “Why now?” and he explains about his mother. She volunteers to go with him, but he tells her it's dangerous. Lagrimas.

Street: Paloma, Roddy, Isabel run into Oscar. Roddy is still not on board with this, but the girls leave him alone to talk to Oscar. Roddy is under the impression that Oscar mistreated Gloria. Oscar answers that he doesn't know what he means, even going on his knees to beg his pardon. No go for now and Roddy rejoins the girls. Sad music and lagrimas de Oscar.

Night.

JNTR, Backstage: Bartono and Daniela have gotten married. [That was a little too quick.] The others throw confetti and congratulate them.

Oscar's Apartment: He talks to his rooster of his misfortune. A song of his plays in the background. He opens the door to find Roddy.

JNTR: Maria prepares to sing “Que te vaya bonito.” She has difficulty facing Jorge Alfredo during the first lines and he looks like he's about to cry. They kiss after the song to wild applause.

Oscar's Apartment: Roddy explains that Jorge Alfredo told him to give this a chance. Father and son embrace.

JNTR: A sad embrace and a few words just long enough to require Susanito to remind them that there is an audience out there. The audience demands another kiss and they oblige.

JNTR Office: Concho – who has blackened his hair, like any other man facing divorce – isn't happy about losing his two male stars; Mirna tells him he can just hire someone new. Of course, it's not that easy. She starts suggesting he take Oscar back. They kiss and Lourdes walks in.

Oscar's Apartment: They start talking sports, just like any normal father and son. Juan struts along the table during the talk of fútbol.

Street: Jorge Alfredo and Maria see the photographer and the horse and go for a slow ride. He remembers her helping him to set up his apartment.

Jorge Alfredo's Apartment: He has packed and Fernando arrives to help him get to the death train. He asks him to look after Maria and her family.

Mendoza Apartment: As Maria cries, Almira sings the same song every mother does in this situation (as in “He got what he wanted and now he's taking a hike”). Maria cries more, answers the knock, and embraces Jorge Alfredo as he and Fernando enter. Amalia is just as rude as usual to him, but he actually asks for her blessing for this journey. She reluctantly gives it. Isabel cries.

JNTR Office: Argument and catfight! Lourdes agrees to move and to work in the bar. Mirna doesn't like this one bit, but Concho insists they work together. Mirna exits in a snit and Lourdes begs Concho to love her again.

Green Room: Lourdes walks out of the office and bumps into Soñador who has a photo of his mother with him. She was apparently an old friend of Lourdes.

Garza Mansion: At Altagracia's request, Wendy hands her the box with her engagement ring in it. She talks about how she would have liked Santos to give it to his bride. Wendy just bridles.

Mendoza Apartment: The two younger girls are crying, saying they will miss JA. Roddy and Oscar arrive and Roddy thanks JA. Fernando reminds Maria that the train is leaving. She exits with the men.

Street: As Fernando takes the wheel of the Mariachimobile, Oscar thinks how great it is to be rid of his rival.

Garza Mansion: Altagracia looks at the ring, thinking the same thoughts.

Death Train: Lagrimas de Maria as she and Jorge Alfredo kiss for the last time to the theme song. Other people get on the moving train and it's obvious that Jorge Alfredo doesn't want to leave. Finally he does, looking back at Maria until she is out of sight. She continues to cry.

Garza Mansion: Altagracia had a mal presentimiento about the risk Santos is taking.

Street: Maria cries and nothing Oscar says is helpful. [Which, of course, is deliberate.]

Hospital in Monterrey: Gloria is getting a good prognosis as the doctor prescribes something. They take their leave of each other.

Oscar's Apartment: Oscar asks Roddy if he can cook and gets a “no”, but he promises to teach him. He opens the fridge, which is empty. They joke about shopping for groceries.

Mendoza Apartment: Maria thinks about how her heart feels full of ice when Jorge Alfredo is not near her. She can't sleep and finally gets up to look at the waning moon.

Reyes Apartment: Roddy waits as Gloria arrives. She apparently still has her hair (or did she have a wig made?). He tells her he has forgiven his father. This pleases her because she wants Oscar to care for him. He wants to be with her. He sits down and she exits in reverse of the entrance; he wakes up calling for her. Oscar enters and actually comforts him. He takes the medallion out of his pocket and gives it to Roddy. He encourages the boy to cry as much as he needs to.

Mendoza Apartment: The alarm sounds and Maria gets up to begin her daily routine of giving her mother injections, waking her sisters, and getting them ready for school. Isabel doesn't want to go.

Death Train: Jorge Alfredo rides the roof with the huddled masses out in the hot sun.

Oscar's Apartment: He is actually teaching Roddy how to cook; there is a fire in the pan, which he puts out with the glass of water. Concho arrives to give him his job back.

Mendoza Apartment: Mancia arrives, ajitated as usual. But it's about the landlord this time and his eviction proceedings.

Death Train: Someone falls and Jorge Alfredo goes down to catch him.

Avances

Almira has another spell.

Cuantas cosas quedaron prendidas
Hasta dentro del fondo de mi alma
Cuantas luces dejaste encendidas
Yo no se, como voy a apagarlas
Amor... que te vaya bonito amor...
Ojala que mi amor no te duela
Y te olvides de mi para siempre
Que se llenen de sangre tus venas
Y te vista la vida de suerte
Yo no se si tu ausencia me mate
Aunque tengo mi pecho de acero
Pero nadie me llame cobarde
Sin saber hasta donde la quiero

Cuantas cosas quedaron prendidas
Hasta dentro del fondo de mi alma
Cuantas luces dejaste encendidas
Yo no se, como voy a apagarlas...
Ojala... que te vaya bonito...

Thanks so much for your always marvelous recap. This epi was so sad and the leave taking was so long. Thanks so much for the lyrics to the song.

That song was so sad but boy did the audience like it! I like how Susanito reminded them they were in front of the audience lol.

I liked that Oscar and Rodri reconciled, but I wanted Oscar to do it for the right reasons and not to impress Maria. I hope he sticks with Rodri.

I don't like the fact that JA is taking that death train and it looks like something bad happens on the way. I want JA to make it home to his Mama, before she dies and to make it back to Mexico in one piece. I know, I know, if wishes were horses, cause he still has to make sure that OJ and the Godfather don't get him, or the police. Ay yi yi!

What a wretching episode! Thanks U.A. for the wonderful recap.

Too bad JAntos didn't take Maria with him to introduce her to the family, I'm sure Altagracia would love her.
However it'd be too easy and we'd miss a lot of episodes when Maria moping about JAntos and vice versa. Mr. Meija sure won't miss the opportunity to show Maria alone and possibly embarazzada with her galan nowhere in sight. Have we started taking bets when the pregges news will come out?

Can't stand Oscar for the moment, being nice to his son just so he can score points with Maria, COME ON! Be nice with the boy for his own sake!
At least Amalia overcame her dislike for JAntos and gave her permission to Maria to marry him and later on her blessing for JAntos (although grudingly), maybe because she saw how much it hurts her daughter(s) that he leaves.

Is Danna still affraid of mounting a horse?
That was not her who got on the horse behind JAntos, even though it was filmed from behind.

I recall that there was a behind-the-scenes hour about PdG in which they admitted that Danna couldn't ride. When they did head-and-shoulders shots of her when she was supposed to be riding she was actually on the shoulders of a male crew member.

I've only ridden a horse once but I would happily try again. I completely understand how people get into it. Re a comment from the other day about dressage riding: I think many if not most ranchera singers learn to do this if only to be able to do the concerto a caballo. At 2:40 of this video you will see Alejandro Fernandez in action.

Doesn't it add to a gorgeous man's sex appeal to be able to manage a 1500 lb animal?

Oscar cried at the rejection from Roddy and for him to get on his knees to beg forgiveness (Maria was not present for that) is a huge deal. I loved the scene when he was teaching him to cook. Oscar has taken the first step toward redemption.

I'm relieved that Jorge Alfredo was able to tell Maria that his mother was dying. At least he gave her an explanation and didn't just have to run out in the middle of the night. I can't fault him for not wanting her to risk herself on the death train and cross the border illegally. Since nobody can prove he did it unless some prosecuting attorney could break Justo on the witness stand it would not have been a good thing for Maria to attempt this.

He should send her money so she could go to El Lay in time to meet Altagracia. However, I suspect the LAKK (as in Keystone Kops) will catch up with him before he has the chance to do that.

Yeah U.A., I knew it from the PdG bloppers as well about Danna and the horses, here's a small video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWJE7orbfWo

I just don't know if she overcame her fear already, it seems that she's not :(

That's too bad. Horses are incredibly beautiful. Maybe she had a bad experience once.

I think Oscar tries to hide from his feelings about being Roddy's father. It seems he never thought about how he'd feel about fatherhood and it has to be a major shock to suddenly be faced with it. He would probably have been freaked out by it when he was younger and it would have felt overwhelming to him to face a helpless infant. Roddy is 16 and a good and smart kid. His mother raised him well although he is a bit clingy, as shown in his nightmare about encountering Gloria as a ghost. Makes me wonder when her parents died because she appears to have no remaining family. Since Oscar also seems to have no family, it looks like the musicians will become Roddy's family. Fernando will make a good uncle although I'm not sure about the others. They seem more like good-time guys.

They certainly would welcome him among themselves if he chooses music as his career.

I subtitled this one Everybody Cries and admit so did I. Oscar is trying although it may be for the wrong reason. He really is a block head. However those scenes with Roddy show there may be a better side to him and a chance for him to have a family even though it will never be with his chiquita.

Amelia - typical flip flop. Her continuing rudeness surprises me. I find that unconscionable for so many reasons — blame it on my upbringing. She just couldn't stop herself. The thing that concerned me is that she has raised Maria in such a way that JAntos telling her he has to go home to say goodbye to his dying mother makes her think he is leaving for good. I don't understand why she can't just say good bye for now and know that he will be back. There is something amiss with the thought process if your loved one has to go away for a time they will never come back. Paloma and Isa had the exact same reaction. Obviously this group would not fare well in a military family

I'm wondering if roddy's dream is foreshadowing. Gloria seems well on the road to heath so it was jarring to say the least.

Wow quick wedding for Dani and her mariachi. Maria should have taken a lesson from that. Oh right JA and the name conundrum.

In addition to the trip to LA being dangerous Santos hasn't told Maria his whole story. One look at the big house and distinguished parents and it would be all over. He wouldn't want to risk throwing it all at her with no preparation. But i do wish Gracia could have met her - in case there is no miracle for her.

I hated the Death Train scenes. It is so sad that people are so desperate to be able to have any kind of life that they take such gigantic risks. Here in this country we are doing everything to keep them out while their country does little to keep them and these are the people with dreams and hopes that could rebuild Mexico's middle class. OK off soap box.

That landlord is a cold piece of work. Why do they need a parking structure in that pat of town is beyond me. I'm wondering if they will all be forced to move and when JA gets back he son't be able to find them. Yeah I know he can go to the bar but still .....

I don't think Oscar is trying to get into Roddy's good graces only for Maria, though.

I think he's rather proud he has this son who is strong & can sing.

Plus I think he still has great feeling for Gloria. He's often called her his first love, he's cried over her picture/medallion, he's angry/confused as to why they parted & why she's come back out of the blue after 16 years to dump a kid on him. He's angry & he has a right to be: he didn't know this kid was conceived & he didn't get to grow up & know the child, then all of a sudden a kid gets dumped on him.

It's a benefit that he will look good to Maria by getting close to Rodrigo but I don't believe Maria is the sole reason Oscar wants to get close with Roddy either.

Thank you for the recap! This episode was a bit depressing.

The Death Train scene looked fake to me. When the person fell over the side, it looked intentional. The TN head honchos didn't convince me the scene was real enough.

I was surprised Rodri forgave Coloso pretty quickly, but that's really all thanks to JA. So now that JA is gone for the time being Coloso thinks he can win Maria's heart. Not gonna happen.

I'm watching the PdG rerun on Mun2 right now. Juan has been kidnapped and his brothers and the girls went out looking for him on horseback. There was a shot of Danna on an actual horse. It was walking, though. I think any scenes where we see her on a horse that's going faster than that, the horse is actually a burly guy from the crew.

Anon

I agree that Oscar probably still has feelings for Gloria. On the other hand I don't think it is fair to say she appeared out of the blue and dumped the kid on him. She was looking for him, that we know but we don't know if she ever did it in the past. When she found him she wanted to talk to him and I think tell him the whole story but he was in "mi chiquita" mood and wasn't interested. She lost her temper and told him about Roddy and left. Were i dying and had the secret she did I'd have done the same thing. No matter what happened in the past and why the secret was kept her drive now is to be sure that her son is taken care of.

UA--Fantastico. The epi was bit intense, but you managed to give it your all.

The only comic relief was Dani and El Baritono's wedding and Coloso setting fire in the pan. Here I thought behind him was a full kitchen--ok, beanie time: full refrigerator, but a portable hot plate. Anyhoo, when Coloso tosses the water, Rodrigo is yelling, no, not water--and of course it flames up even higher--it was probably a grease fire, but he managed to drown it anyway.

When I saw Gloria walk in I also did a double take (hair grew back faster than Daniela Romo's)--why was Roddy back at his own place. Then, when she backed out I figured it was his dream. Glad he had Oscar with him, if it couldn't be JA.

irisz79--La Bestia is a very dangerous way to travel--not everyone makes it. I understand why he didn't want to take Maria, but I was secretely hoping she'd jump on the train at the very end, but she is a responsible lass and knows that tomorrow morning she has to give her mother injections, get the girls up, etc. etc.

Now she also has to fight with Braulio, too. I agree, a parking garage in a residential area is ludicrous. They could have said a 10-story apartment and it would be more believable.

irisz79--Maria will faint five weeks from last night. (Not quite enough time for her to miss a skipped period but enough time that a pregnancy test would be positive.)

It would be nice for JA to send the money to Maria to come to LA. But I wonder if they even have passports and how long they'd have to wait for a visa. Do you even need one as a "tourist" staying a week or two?

Decie--you said it right about meeting JA's folks and Bestia scenes.

Before Roddy showed up at Oscar's door, Oscar had decided to pack up, grabbed the rooster and head back to Apodaca. I wondered about that scene, then remembered that Concho had fired him, so there was nothing to hold him there--Maria and Roddy had both rejected him and he'd lost his job.

One of the things Oscar told Roddy during the "begging" scene was that he was sad that he knew nothing about him, never held him as a baby, wasn't there while he was growing up. Roddy couldn't see it from Oscar's point of view at that moment. Yes, a father was taken away from him all his life, but a son was taken away from his father (do we sound a bit like PEAM? didn't mean too).

Prediction: Jorge Alfredo will be arrested within hours of his arrival in the States and will not get to see his mother.

What does Oscar have left in Apodaca? Is this just about his feeling like a failure?

Urban

I hate the idea of JA not seeing his mother but and this is a big but knowing how TN's operate - as a Mexican citizen JA has the right to contact his consulate when he is arrested and we know who the consul is. The big question is will the BP or cops remember to do it. There was a big case in my area awhile back where a murderer was let go because the cops failed to advise him of his right to contact his consul. Foerign detainees get both Miranda warnings and the right to call someone from their own countries diplomatic mission. So lets see how that plays out.

I so agree - if Maria faints we know she is pregnant so trite and cliched it will make me sick.

In those previews Amelia faints and Maria sees blood. At the rate things are going when this novela is over we will ever after call it The One Where the Mothers Died.

Huh? They sure married off el Baritono and Dani quickly and sent them away! She brought him sushi one time and he taught her how to make a traditional drink for the party and that was it. No ranting and raving from her "friends" Trampira and the other one; no teasing from the guys about taking his little rich girl to the ol' homestead, etc. Maybe the budget dictated that they get rid of one mariachi (Baritono) to make room for another (Siete Mares)?

Anon at 6:29--Well, Dani did go to his pueblo to mourn his mother's death, does that count as "quality time?"

Decie--Love your speculation. I hate to see him spending days out in the desert.

If that's the case it wasn't the smartest move; Rafael Negrete is the real deal.

And we missed out on Elvirus' snarking over Dani going for a mariachi. I wonder if we're missing a scene or two.

I know that at least once, Daniela was giving the stink eye to Elvira & the other chick for continously plotting against Maria. I fanwank it that Daniela stopped hanging around them once she got to know Baritono, Maria & the Mariachi Gang.
