LA PATRONA

Now I'm totally confused. I was away camping all weekend and didn't look at the blog. So ... Friday's shows are posted on last week's thread rather than this week as they have been before?

I wrote a recap, and I guess I'll post it on this page and hope that it will be found.
 

LA PATRONA – LUNES – Part 1

Antonia tells Aníbal’s lawyer that he has to get him off or everyone in town will think she’s the next to fall. He’d better win the case or his career is going to be toast.

Patti gripes to Irene that “the widow” admitted going to bed with Ricardo and, furthermore, told her what a red-hot lover he was. Irene advises her to go back to Ricardo. She tells her she’s suffering from pride and jealousy. Patti admits she’s afraid. She hasn’t been able to light a fire under him. Lucho appears to give a very amusing lecture on how men work.

Aníbal’s lawyer advises Antonia to jump ship regarding Aníbal, because, for sure, he’s going down. He says there’s a lot of evidence against him. Macario is listening from the corridor.

Lucho begins his “lecture”. He says women have lots of cables inside them and they’re interconnected. There’s the house, the children, the family, shopping, etc. He says men are simpler – like a piece of furniture with drawers. There’s a drawer for family, soccer, friends, women, children and, lastly, a very large drawer for sex, sex that isn’t always accompanied by love.

Patti tells Lucho that Ricardo’s drawers are mixed up. Lucho says Ricardo is like a boy in the spring, and he wants to make up for lost time. We see Irene smiling, almost laughing, throughout this. Patti asks how many women will Ricardo need to recapture this lost time. Lucho, in a scholarly manner, asks his age. When he hears 30, he thinks maybe 12 or 15 women. Patti rises to her feet objecting to waiting until Ricardo’s hormones subside. After she leaves, Irene laughingly tells him he’s a horrible marriage counselor.

Alejandro is looking at a picture of Gabriela regretfully. He says his love isn’t enough to wipe out all the suffering he caused her. She appears. He tells her the Gabriela in the photo isn’t the same one he now knows. She then asks if he’d have preferred that she’d really died rather than become what she now is.

Luz is continuing to freak out. Gastón encounters her outside the horrible room. [What’s in there? Did they get Doctora Aguirre back?] Gastón tells her he’ll tell her everything.

Alejandro says he can’t forget or forgive himself for not having believed her. He can’t forgive himself for what his mother did to her. He can’t forgive himself for letting their child die. He says that Lucía’s illness causes him to suffer even more for the baby that was stolen from them. Gabriela tries to tells him their love is a miracle, but he still insists he ruined their love when he abandoned his child and its mother. [He did know she was pregnant in the nuthouse and believed Gertrudis’ lie that Gabriela managed to abort the child.] Alejandro wonders if he’s going to lose Lucía as punishment for abandoning the other child. Gabriela: “If life gave you another chance? If you could have that child in your arms?” But, of course, this is a telenovela and she doesn’t tell him about the pregnancy.

Gastón tells Luz the truth about Verónica really being Gabriela Suárez, and that they need her as a witness against the lobos.

The doctor tells Balmaceda they’ve put Lucas in an induced coma.

Cecilia has come to visit David. They both want Lucas to live and not just for selfish reasons. Antonia shows up and tries to make nice with Ceci.
 

LA PATRONA – LUNES – Part 2

Antonia later lies her hindquarters off to Aníbal in his jail cell, telling him that his lawyer says they need more money to defend him. She needs him to sign some more checks. She also says she’s going on a short trip. She needs to get some dólares to defend him. Riiiiiiight! David overhears this nose-enlarging tale from his neighboring cell.

Gabriela is not too happy about Gastón’s telling Luz the truth, but Luz swears she’s going to help and calls her Patrona.

Balmaceda lets Gabriela use his office to meet briefly with David. She’s brought him a mining textbook that he asked for, as well as some novels and books of poetry.

It’s finally time for the big trial. His lawyer advises him to say nothing. [Huh? Can you plead the 5th in México?] Patti comes to the trial to support Constanza, but tells Ricardo this doesn’t mean reconciliation. Antonia rags on Alejandro for being there with her enemy. Then he gets a call about Lucía taking a turn for the worse and has to leave.

Antonia is furious because reporters are there firing questions at Constanza. Then Gastón and Francisca arrive and applause breaks out. Francisca looks gorgeous. Antonia says things must be bad in SPDO if a prostitute aspires to be the first lady. Francisca: “Why not? If we had for La Patrona a killer AND a prostitute? At least I haven’t killed anyone, while you have a cemetery full behind you.” [Go, Fran!]

Irene tells Lucho she can’t bear to lose Lucía. When Lucho asks if there’s any other way to cure her, she mentions the doctor’s saying transplanted stem cells from a related sibling could possibly represent a cure. He tells her to have that baby. She reminds him that she and Ale are over. Lucho says he wants her to have a child with him!

The court comes to order. The judge announces the accusation: kidnapping of Constanza Golshtein. Aníbal is sworn in by an officer of the court. The judge asks him how he pleads. Meanwhile, Connie has a flashback of a visit from Aníbal while she was in the nuthouse as he pressured her for where she’d stashed the documents incriminating him. The rat pleads innocent and Constanza erupts.

Poncia catches Macario trying to get into Antonia’s safe. She laughs at him, telling him that, since the burglary, there’s nothing valuable in that safe.

Aníbal tries some feeble protest that Ricardo can’t represent Constanza since he’s part of the plot against him. Ricardo says that he’s an attorney. He used to be a judge in this very courtroom, but he resigned his post to defend his mother and to bring out the truth about the miserable childhood Aníbal Villegas gave him. He deprived him of his mother and, even worse, told him that his mother had abandoned him for another man. [Lawyers in México apparently testify!] He describes how his mother was tortured in the nuthouse and given strong drugs to make her crazy so that his father could steal her money.

Irene says she doesn’t want to have a child that won’t have a father. Lucho starts hemming and hawing that he might just be around. They kiss. Alejandro enters, clearing his throat. He says Lucía is asleep and he’s going back to the trial. He tells Lucho to be careful. The last thing they need is for Lucho also to be in prison. After he leaves, Lucho marvels at Irene’s ex apparently accepting him.

Ricardo again asks Aníbal if he pleads innocent or guilty [More odd telenovela courtroom procedures – didn’t he already plead?] He again pleads innocent.

Not sure what happened to NovelaMan's epic six-part recap of "Pasion Prohibida" and related comments that were formerly on June 24?

I liked it okay, and am signing on to watch.
Didn't like: Villain Fabian Rios' over the top "Cruella de Ville"-style performance. No nuances there, and I usually do like Fabian Rios.
Also: Galan Jose Luis Resendez ("Pedro") has a nice mom and sister who live in the Barrio, and a scheming girlfriend in a wheelchair. He has just gotten fired from his go-fer job. Ana Layevska ("Ignacia") has a scheming mother, a two-faced best friend, and is engaged to the volatile Tomas Villamayor. Pedro happens by just as Tomas is about to slug Ignacia in a fit of anger, and punches him out. Later Pedro and Ignacia happen to meet again, and spend a pleasant evening together. She thinks he is from a wealthy family but the next day she sees him on the construction site where she is newly in charge. Lastly, Pedro's flamboyant aunt arrives after an absence of many years but it seems she is actually his mother...

Thank you for the short introduction, J in Oregon. I wasn't expecting to like this new one, the galan did nothing for me in the promos, but actually, he's not that bad. And watching with the Caray gang makes it so much fun.

I don't know what they give these guys, but when they bump them to protagonico, they go up on the hunk-ness level (perfect example for me is Julian Gil, which I could have never seen as a galan, until "Quien eres tu").

Fabian Rios is a fine piece of ..., but I feel like Tobias should have been older; he was Ignacia's proff at the University and they were together 10 years after that. Ah, well...

I like Ana L. in this one, she looks more mature now, she finally got rid of her childlike face. But I really don't like the name Ignacia, maybe as the story progresses, we can find something better for her.

Thanks again for a superlative recap, Novelera! Chock-full of details as always and funny.

Ricardo was a bit extra last night during the courtroom scenes. It was weird since he's usually so low-key. But I liked it. He was so trying to get back with Patti, but she made it plain she was only there for Constanza.

I cheered when Fran told Guerra off. That's why I'm glad the fliers went out-the conspiracy of silence around Guerra has been broken. People don't feel forced to defer to her anymore since they know she's a hypocrite.

BUT, as sweet as that conversation between Ale and Vero was last night, I want to kill the writers. Why are they delaying Ale finding out Vero is pregnant? She could've told him last night with no problems, especially during that talk. So cliche, and they are only doing it knowing dedicated viewers won't get frustrated since you have to watch to find out how he'll find out.

Lucho's lessons: Um, no comment.

NovelaMaven: Ahhh, okay...thanks for pointing out the "June 24 part one" page. I think the new system of dates will be much easier to follow.

AdrianaNoel, I did like the premise and I looooove Fabian Rios. Have seen him as totally evil (Fantasma de Elena), flawed but salvageable (Herederos del Monte), and semi-comic hero (Corazon Valiente). He is so talented, the writers should give his character some nuance; a complex villain is so much more interesting than a "cartoony" one.
The scheming fiancee in a wheelchair is an intesting twist, I wonder if "Pedro" caused her accident and is with her out of guilt?

EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS, Part 1

I'm back from Europe, and the show is as gripping as ever!

Ximena has been slapped by Aurelio. He lets her know that HE's the boss in this marriage, she'll do as he says. She acts meek, can I please visit my Dad in the hospital? Sure, honey, but two guards will be with you the whole time. He says he'll get Don Cleto out of jail, and later sets Turco to work on some plan for that.

Xime visits Don Cleto in the jail hospital. He tells her you try to change, but fate prevents it. He wanted to retire, and look what happened. She may want a new life for her children, but it may be impossible.

Or not. Marco meets Xime at the hospital, tells her he knows she was leaving. She's surprised he knows her personal life, but he says he's been working on the case for a long time. She seems like a decent person. If she'll testify against Aurelio, or work up a case against him, Marco might be able to help a bit with her Dad. But what he surely could do, is put her, her two daughters (I think maybe the baby is named Luz), and her son Bert in a witness protection program, a new life. You don't want your son to end up like your husband, do you? And isn't he already heading that way? Take my card. She disdainfully throws it in the trash. But after he leaves, she retrieves it.

Aurelio asks Turco, did you know Ximena was leaving, and kept it from me? Turco pauses, calmly replies how could you think such a thing? You know Ximena much better than I do (AC is dubious about this), and you had suspicions, but I'm just your helper, I'd never know. Aurelio buys it. For now.

Monica and Cabo do a little dance, both trying to outcool the other. She doesn't trust him, wonders if Aurelio sent him to come on to her. He denies, but he's a little swayed by her "charms". She says we could mix business (joining up against AC) with pleasure (sex), think about it.
 

CIELOS, Part 2

Leo looks longingly at her gun, empty of bullets. She flashes back to when Pablo Escobar caught her with a gun. He chained her arms to a beam, beat her without mercy, even as she protested her brother told her to carry it for protection. Fortunately, this time, Aurelio didn't take such harsh measures. For now.

When Alejandro wants sex, she says it's her period. He's okay with that. Then Ale, she, Bert and Mati are practicing/celebrating/drinking, and Bert suggests that since Mati's been singing with Ale on most of the songs, how about Claudia on the next one? Leo/Claudia likes this, so does Alejandro. Mati, not so much.

Alfonso, Eugenia's boss, has written an article praising Marco. Eugenia likes it, as does Linares. Linares comes up with an idea, let's interview all the bigwigs, Danny, Ramiro, Huerta, Castro, we know someone's involved, maybe they'll slip up. Alfonso questions the risk. Well, replies Linares, they can't make me a cripple any more than I am, so why not? Alfonso says okay. When Linares leaves, Alfonso kisses Eugenia, and she doesn't resist! She does say she wants to go slow. Linares sees a little of this.

Alba repeats to Chacorta that no matter what he says, she won't support taking Victorcito from Aida. You're so tough in business, why not have some responsibility in your personal life! she berates.

Danny tells Aurelio he's done his last job (Don Cleto), he wants his money, $1 to $2 million. Aurelio says okay, come to Sinaloa. Doris thinks this is a bad move, they already have plenty of money, but Danny thinks Aurelio "owes" him. So he's going to Aurelio's turf. Aurelio wants the meet to be at his ranch. I think this is very bad for Danny. And Ponte and Orejas are listening in!! Danny is only identified as Letrudo, so they don't know who it is (maybe if they match voiceprints?).

But if Danny comes to the ranch, Leo is there! This could be trouble!!

Great recap, Novelera!

I always enjoy these trials, there really are no rules. Yes, not only the judge asks Anibal how he pleads, but so does Ricardo. And is this a criminal case or a civil case? One would think criminal, and Ricardo is the prosecutor, but he keeps talking about representing his mother, while if it were criminal, he'd be representing the state (in the US system). I think his testifying about all his troubles is sort of the opening statement, but there is a little conflict of interest here, no?

What REALLY mattered, though, were the outfits! Alejandro has no tie, shows his confusion. Gaby has a sensible blue dress, not showing her usual cleavage at all, this shows she is cool as ice. But Antonia has a bare shouldered dress, black on top, wide white belt, bottom half horizontal black and white stripes (prison color?) emphasizing her curvy figure, with boots on the bottom to show she's tough! Yes, the perfect outfit to wear to a "serious" trial. :)

Welcome back Hombre, and thanks for a stellar recap! We worked hard to fill your shoes while you were away.

I am also worried that Danny will spot Leo at the ranch, before she spots him. Her memory about Escobar makes me feel that soon she will be in just as hairy a situation, and Danny’s arrival could be the catalyst.

Monica and Cabo were fun to watch. But doesn’t Cabo have too much to lose if he betrays AC? No matter how much he wants to have Monica’s long legs wrapped around his sweat suit.

Ximena is playing meek to AC, and playing tough to Marco, but clearly she hasn’t given up on finding a way out for her and her daughters (Beto is a lost cause and would never accept betraying his father and going into witness protection). I was proud of Turco for being so coolly able to escape AC’s accusations, for now. I had to laugh when he fawned that AC knows Ximena better than anyone else. How could a mere employee like him know her better? Ha!

One correction. It was Eugenia who wrote the piece on Marco, and her boss Alfonso was impressed by the eloquence and the obvious respect and admiration Eugenia has for Marco. He would love for a woman (Eugenia specifically) to see him the same way. He had originally wanted Eugenia or Linares to interview Marco, but Eugenia told him that Marco doesn’t do interviews, and instead wrote this article on the awesomeness of honest/hard working cop, Marco Mejia. Interesting that both Eugenia and Marco are thinking of each other, yet both are also feeling very drawn to a colleague. At this stage I have no idea if they’ll end up back together, with Leo/Alfonso, or alone.

Poor Linares. He’s obviously been in love with Eugenia a long time. She’s finally single again, and someone else sidles right in ahead of him. Plus, he’s now paralyzed and likely doesn’t feel he could be a boyfriend option any more.

hola J in Oregon and Adriana Noel!!

I, as well, loved Fabian Rios when I first saw him in Fantasma de Elena as Montecristo; then Herederos, and the first few months of CV before it got ridiculous. In this, you're both spot on - "cartoony/Cruella de Ville-esque" doesn't cut it for me.

Caught last half hour of this show, but don't think I'll be getting much into it. I liked JLR well enough in Herederos, and was excited when he turned main protagonist in CV. He's very attractive, but that show turned me off everyone, except Jon Ecker.

I may try Marido En Alquiler, cuz of Sonya Smith.

Thanks Novelera. I try to just ignore these trials completely, because they have no logic or reason. Just tell me what the verdict is. LOL!

Hombre- Did you notice that Vero, Coni, and Pati were all wearing blue, and Rick was wearing a blue tie? That must be the color of good today.

I am guessing that the Tigres are keeping Chacon in the house, on dialysis, and recovering, and that’s what Luz saw. But, then again, wouldn’t they have guards on him? In any case, I don’t trust Luz with the Gaby/Vero info. She’s too much of a loose cannon, especially since she’s still obsessed with having Lucho.

It made NO sense that Vero didn’t tell Ale about the baby during that discussion about their lost baby. That was just cruel. Plus, doesn’t she know that a baby who carries Ale’s or Irene’s genes could potentially be a match for Lucia? When he mentioned Lucia possibly being take from him, I would have thought a light bulb would have gone on in her head, and she would realize that her baby has the possibility to save its big sister.

Vivi, thank you! Not telling him after that talk was cruel. I understood why she didn't say anything when they were in the chapel after Ceci's rape, it would have been weirdly inappropriate to my mind. But during that talk, where they cleared up a lot of things about the past, I was dumbfounded. As Ale is wont to say '¿Cual es el misterio?

it was kind of fascinating watching Anibal last night,

like in his cell (was he eavesdropping on David/Cecilia) when Antonia, after demanding more money, repeated that she would never betray him, then reached out to him, but he backed away,

and standing, when the judge asked his plea, I thought I saw little devil horns starting to grow out of his bald head, as his courage surged,

but later seating, after hearing Ricardo's opening and noticing Antonia and his lawyer trying to distance themselves, he looked like he was realizing that he was so screwed.

great fashion comments Hombre, (and welcome back), there was one more, Casual Ric seems to be gone, coat, tie and glasses for Ricardo.

I don't blame Gabriela for not telling Alejandro about the baby, his reasoning would go out the window and he would be glued to her side by obligation, and I think it would ruin him. When the time is right, she will tell him, but first he needs to handle his demons.

I loved Cabo, sporting his track suit and some serious hat hair, giving it go with Monica. She certainly looked amused. Can't wait to see what Tijeras comes up with! Monica may not be able to hold in a laugh.

I was really hoping though that Ximena would tell off Aurelio, even though it might not be in her best interest at this point. What was that about him telling her that he does everything to make her happy? Yeah? How does sleeping with every woman you meet make your wife happy, you jerk?

Cabo is not long for this world anyway, Oscar will see to that, so he should enjoy life while he can. Loved that scene with Monica, she is truly the cat, Cabo the ratón.

Now I'm worried what will happen if Aurelio finds Marco's card. And where were the guys that are supposed to be watching Ximena?

Thanks so much for your very detailed recap, Novelera. It's much appreciated.

I thought Lucho's little lecture on how compartmentalized men are was hilarious. His 12-15 estimate for the number of women Ricardo will need to experiment with seemed a bit high, though, but what do I know. My drawers are different!

Alejandro ("looking at a picture of Gabriela regretfully and saying his love isn’t enough to wipe out all the suffering he caused her") is absolutely wallowing in guilt, and he's nowhere ready to give it up. Last night I was yelling at the screen for Gabriela to tell him about the pregnancy, and of course she didn't. In retrospect I'm thinking HE'S NOT READY to hear that there is another baby. Guilt will continue to get in the way of his being a good partner for Gabriela until he resolves his issues with Antonia and truly comes to believe that her bad acts are not his fault.

I'm thinking that the monster Luz saw in the room is Chacon in bandages.

When Gabriela brought David the books he asked for, all I could think of is he needs a clean shirt!

Wow! Francisca was amazing telling Antonia that she has a cemetery full of dead bodies!

And safecracker Macario sees the writing on the wall and really wants to get out of town.

So our Lucho wants to have a baby with Irene. What a sweet scene! Somehow Balmy is going to have to relent and find a way for el duende to stay out of jail.

Hombre - welcome back! I hope your trip was wonderful! You raise a good point about the trial being criminal or civil. My impression has been that it's criminal: Constanza filed a complaint with the sheriff and Anibal was arrested and jailed for (?) kidnapping and wrongful imprisonment. I thought it was strange, though, that there is no prosecutor. And Coni is sitting at what would be the prosecution's table. Must be TN law and order.

Hombre, welcome back!! You've been much missed. And thanks so much for starting off your return with a terrific recap.

I found the opening scene rather powerful. Aurelio's striking Ximena was visually quite convincing, and his claim that "I hit you because I love you" was as absurd as most of the explanations and rationalizations he offers. Aurelio continues in this vein by assuring Ximena that he had nothing to do with Don Cleto's arrest...and he says this in front of Turco, who knows full well that Aurelio is lying.

I very much enjoyed the scene between Cabo and Mónica, even though much of what Cabo said went right by me. I especially loved the look on Cabo's face when Mónica suggested to him that they'd have more comfort and more privacy if they just stayed in the house. I kept expecting Mónica to laugh in Cabo's face, and the fact that she didn't do so seemed to me to testify to how desperately she wants to get back at Aurelio.

Hombre, do you think Danny could recognize that Claudia is Leo? I guess some people have a really good eye for faces (I'm not one of those people). I think her appearance is so different that it's unlikely he's realize who she is. Then again, this IS a telenovela, so I guess I'll oil my beanie's tightening mechanism just in case.

Juanita, I think there's a chance Danny will not recognize Leo. The hair does make a big difference. But he's no dummy, so eventually he may suspect something.

Variopinta, I'm also worried about Ximena holding on to Marco's card.

J in Oregon, Pedro said that he was driving the car with Mireya and crashed it so he does feel guilty.

I saw Fabian Rios and Sofia Stamatiadas in SIN SENOS so its great seeing them again.

No one mentioned Ignacias brother, Ruben. (Oscar Priego from RELACIONES PELIGROSAS) apparently he went to jail for drugs and Tomas bailed him out.

Estelas red hair is off-putting. this can only mean one thing: She is Reptiles biological mother!

Is Estelas mom the same actress who played the nanny in UNA MAID?

Good to have you back, Hombre. Thanks for picking up right where you left off with another fabulous recap.

There is a real cloud hovering over the action right now. I won't even speculate about who is going to make it out of there alive. Not many of the principals, I'd guess.

Hombre - you're amazing! Just back from overseas, you must have jet lag! And you've done a great recap for us. Thank you!

Since we know Ximena can be very assertive and have a temper, I read her submissive response to caveman's abuse as a strategy to get to her father's bedside.

If she thought life was oppressive and difficult before her failed escape, Ximena must know that things are going to be horribly worse now that AC doesn't trust her at all.

Ximena (like Alba) told AC that she hoped he hadn't arranged Cleto's arrest. These women know what their men are capable of.

While I doubt that Ximena will publicly testify against AC, I can see her working with Marco to get evidence against AC and Chacorta in exchange for witness protection and the opportunity to get the girls out of the criminal lifestyle.

I think Danny's HOURS are numbered. AC looked murderous (if there is such a look) after their phone call. Danny should have listened to his wife - they have enough money to vanish and live comfortably. She'll be a rich widow.

I wonder about Turco's future. He knows he's on shaky ground with AC. Turco's definitely the smartest of the group, and, now that he owns the travel agency, he may be thinking of an exit plan for Ximena, the girls and himself.

There is someone that thought Leo looked familiar, it was one of the henchmen but don't know if he was Aurelio's or the Colombians. I think that will be trouble down the line.

If Gen Dan goes to Aurelio's house, his voice will be recorded & Marco & co. will recognize it. Gen Dan could also recognize Leo's voice if not her looks. This is not Corazón Indomable.

I'm confused about something, and it may be that my DVR (or my brain) missed something. Did Ximena turn around after Alba told her about her father's heart attack and return voluntarily? Or did Aurelio's guys find her? I thought the latter because she was sort of dragged before her husband.

Beth, I agree. Ximena isn't "tamed" by a long shot. She just wanted to see her father and calm the waters so she can make a move later.

Boy, Aurelio definitely lives with denial where Ximena is concerned. He slaps her and tells her she's a prisoner, but tells Turco they need to get Don Cleto back ASAP so Ximena will forgive him.

Cleto is old school in every way. And that includes having some self-awareness and moral sense. He told his beloved daughter that, mostly, the reason he came back to dealing narcotics when she thought he was so happy in retirement was that it's his nature to be "the boss". He's not really content without a crew of guys under him. He's also probably an adrenaline junkie.

Ximena did come back voluntarily. We saw her get off the bus, cross the road, and hitch a ride going back.

She must have gone to an airport and flown back because Aurelio's men spotted her at the airport and then dragged her back to him. She, of course, was headed directly for the hospital to see her father.

Beth, I too have been wondering for quite some time about the identity of the restrained and hooded man (or possibly men?) in the theme song collage. There's also a suggestion that Aurelio lights a line of gasoline or other fuel that will burn him/them to death. Increasingly, I've been unable to watch this part of the theme song video. I don't want to think about the identity of the unfortunate man or men. Perhaps I'm way off base in my understanding of what I'm seeing, but....

AC is standing in the background & the figure looks tall and thin, hmmmm.

Does anyone know what the convo was with Tijeras & a henchman, then Tijeras threw money on the table. Then Tijeras got a disturbing phone call that I didn't understand.

It wouldn't have been hard for Ximena to have been tracked, her car was at the bus station & they probably found out what bus she was on & followed it, picked up up when she got out of the truck that picked her up.

The only thing I remember about Tijeras was that he said on the phone something like "we only received 3/4 of the shipment?". Someone is cutting into the shipments of drugs.

BTW, I think Aurelio's hair is very indicative of his mental state. It's different every day. These days, with all his problems, it looks pretty ragged.

Variopinta - what I remember from CC is that Tijeras was annoyed that the henchman (?AC's) wanted to know where Cabo was. Tijeras made up a bs story about Cabo delivering some food to a niece or the niece of a friend. Then to distract the henchman Tijeras gave him a wad of money and told him to get some girls because he was bored.

The disturbing phone call seemed to involve missing drugs - about 25% of a shipment. Tijeras was pithed and told whoever called to find out who had the drugs and get them back.

Before he got the phone call, Tijeras was spinning a tale about Cabo's whereabouts. We know that Cabo was with Monica Robles but Tijeras told Aurelio's guy that he was out buying CANDY!

We can assume that Oscar's machinations back in Colombia (maybe in cahoots with Topo in Mexico) are the cause of Tijeras's supply problem now.

Cute start. JLR is tolerable so far, except he's a bit too over-the-top good-natured (like a puppy or something, the way he looks at and talks to Ignacia, and goes right in for the kiss in the first episode--it's almost like he's a twelve year old). He's cute and sincere though, so we'll see.

I was surprised to see how fast the two protags got to the first (and second) kiss. There was really no tension building, which I kind of missed (as opposed to the weeks we had to wait with Bruno & Bianca). But they were sweet together, so we'll see if this chemistry can last.

I really like Ana L. She's so versatile--I loved her quirky, sweet, nutty character in Relaciones Peligrosas, and she pretty much hit the crazy villain out of the park in Lola Volcan. So far she's pretty likable in this one--smart, sweet, but with enough backbone (thank god!) and confidence to stand up to prometido.

I have to agree--I loved Fabian Rios in Sin Senos and CV, but his villain is way too "cartoony" (great word) and exaggerated. I really prefer his good guys to his baddies (like in Lola V as well).

I like Sofia Lamas (Mireyita) too, and am kind of bummed it seems she's an antagonist in this one.

So here we go! It will be really hard to follow in the footsteps of PP... think I'm gonna need to lower my expectations a bit.

Part 1

Not quite the “skeleton recap” I had intended after all… kind of hard to boil things down!

Ignacia knows Pedro is no rico. Aunt Gina has come back for her hijo Pedro and wants to tell him the truth. Margarita’s not ready to let him go. You’re right, says Gina. We had a deal. He’ll never know I’m his mother.

Pedro confesses to suegro that he met Ignacia earlier when he saved her from being punched by her boyfriend, the owner of the construction company. We see a brief glimpse of an eavesdropper in the background.

Tia Gina admits that she has other reasons to come back stateside… she’s made an investment in a construction project that her late husband had been involved in. She’s come to check-in on the project. Margarita is skeptical…”Are you sure you didn’t come back to get even with that woman?” “I want to make her suffer.” She gazes at a glamour shot of Estela. The plot (and the enredos) thickens…

Estela and Ruben are sniping at each other and Ruben storms out. Abuela advises Estela to be kinder with him… she’s been neglecting him because of this wedding. Estela gushes about the importance of the wedding to all of them, and because of Tomas, Ruben is no longer in jail and they didn’t lose the apartment. Abuela isn’t convinced that Ignacia is in love with Tomas… after all, she didn’t come home last night.

Ignacia hunts Pedro down and he explains to her about the house and the car. He tried to tell her. And even if he had told her, would she have even spoken to him? But everything he said, everything they felt, was real. Eavesdropper #2 (aka suegro) listens in the background. Karina shows up… “This is THE Pedro??”

Ignacia and Karina have a heart-to-heart in the office where Iggy explains the Pedro situation and asks Karina to keep it a secret (uh-HUH), because it was just a moment of weakness and she still plans on getting married in 15 days.

Tomas encounters Pedro at the work site, and recognizing him as the tipo that hit him, promptly fires him with suegro looking on.

More talking between Iggy and Kari. Kari’s not so sure Iggy doesn’t have the hots for Pedro as much as she denies it.

Eavesdropper #1 (Neto) lends his moral support to Pedro… it wasn’t fair you getting fired like that, so I flattened the boss’s tires. Pedro is indignant… Dude, that’s not how I solve my problems. That’s a crime! Then the subject changes to Aunt Gina, whom Pedro makes clear that he wants nothing to do with.

 

DYO Tuesday, Part 2

Tomas sees Pedro still at the work site and lunges toward him, as Ignacia steps between them. She doesn’t think he should have been fired, and Tomas is angry (surprise!) that she has contradicted him in front of the workers.

Back at the office, Tomas is ranting about his terrible day when his partner informs him the investor is coming. Lo and behold, Aunt Gina appears, and is VEEEEERY happy to meet Sr. Tomas. This woman can gush.

Pedro calls Neto to get him the address of Ignacia’s house. Okaaaay….

Aunt Gina is VEEEEERY approving of the project, even though she admits she doesn’t really understand anything they’re saying. She just wants to go see the project herself, and she REEEEEALLY wants Tomas (that’s about the 4th time I’ve typed Willy and had to go back and change it to Tomas) to go with them. After all, she’s the one with the money.

Pedro’s suegro is suspicious about Pedro/Ignacia. . In Mireya’s flashback, we learn that the accident that left her “debilitated” was actually caused when she and Pedro were arguing in the car (he wants to break up) and she grabbed Pedro’s head. Then we see that Mireyita can walk after all, and swears she will marry Pedro, even if it means she’ll never be “able” to walk again.

Pedro intercepts Ignacia at ther front door tries to clear things up with her again. Estela watches them get in the car together. She takes him to the house where she will live with Tomas after they are married to show Pedro that this is her future, it’s too much to risk. He says, “if this is what you want, why do I feel like you’re shouting out for someone to rescue you?”

Ruben convinces his abuela to let him leave the house. After he leaves, she discovers the money in her wallet is gone.

Ignacia denies that she wants to be rescued and Pedro counters, “If you’re so happy, why am I here?” They talk about the night in Malibu and how much it meant to each of them but Ignacia is still confused. Pedro knows they are from different worlds, but at least he had a “princess in my arms for one night, like a storybook.” (gag). Ignacia cries, they lean toward each other, then they hear Tomas calling her name.

Karina (BFF from hell) pays Estela a visit. Estela wants to know what’s going on with Ignacia… she saw her get in the car with another man.

Ignacia wants Pedro to hide, Pedro says “go with him (Tomas), it was a pleasure knowing you.” Ignacia leaves the room and tries to get Tomas to leave the house, using the excuse she was preparing a surprise for him. He hears a noise and runs into the other room, but Pedro is gone.


 

DYO Tuesday, Part 3

Karina claims to know nothing about what Ignacia is up to, the guy was just probably someone she works with. Estela is afraid Ignacia is going to lose Tomas, “the opportunity of a lifetime.” Sigh. How romantic. Karina is thinking that it wouldn’t be so bad for Ignacia to lose Tomas, ‘cause she wants her a little more Tomas-lovin.

Pedro rushes home to tell Mireya how much he cares about her, and that’s she’s honest and transparent (cough) and doesn’t complicate his life. She wants them to go live in their own house together, and he agrees to as soon as possible.

Estela is hitting Ignacia over the head with the “I hope you realize how lucky you are to have a wonderful man like Tomas” hammer. Ignacia says she’s leaving the house to deal with some work matters, and tells mom to lay off the Tomas thing. “What is with your obsession with him? Are you in love with him?” she snarks. Mom is aghast at her accusations. Ignacia smirks, then leaves. I’m really kind of liking this chick.

Mama (#1) de Pedro is telling Aunt Gina (Mama #2) she shouldn’t be staying in a hotel, she should be staying with family. Aunt Gina explains she’s too independent (read: spoiled) for that. Pedro enters and Aunt Gina gushes over him. He’s kind of freaked out by her and leaves to get something for dinner from the grocery store.

Ignacia comes to the barrio looking for Oligario and encounters Pedro and Mireya who wastes no time in informing Iggy that they are novios.

Karina tells Tomas he should think twice about marrying Ignacia… she may not be so interested in marrying him. Tomas gets mad. Again.

Ignacia introduces herself as Pedro’s boss. She didn’t think it was fair that he lost his job. Mireya is shocked at the unemployment news, and worried about their future. Pedro takes Ignacia to her car to continue the conversation away from the peanut gallery.

Tomas accuses Karina of being jealous and then makes out with her.

Ignacia tells Pedro to show up at work tomorrow, and not to worry about Tomas. She notes that he cares about his girlfriend Mireya very much. “Yup. Kind of. I mean, a lot,” he stumbles unconvincingly.

Ruben breaks into Tomas’s office and borrows a check from his checkbook.

Aunt Gina is still gushing about Pedro… “I’m so happy, it’s like a dream,” she says to her sister. Margarita gets upset and passes out, and Aunt Gina sends Lupita to find Pedro. Ummm, an ambulance would probably be a pretty good idea, too. Unless they’re busy over at Nina Piamonte’s house.

Ignacia questions Pedro over his noviazgo… how long have they been novios? 5 years. What’s up with the wheelchair? He doesn’t want to talk about it. Right, says Ignacia, I shouldn’t have been so nosy. I expect to see you at work tomorrow. Just then, Lupita comes running out… “Pedro! Mama’s fainted!” Pedro runs inside, Ignacia looks conflicted. Should she go see if she can help, or is it none of her business? Fin del capítulo.

I'm new here. To bring my serviceable Spanish up to fluent to help me become more employable, I'm committing to watching at least one telenovela at a time and I just saw the billboard for DYO over the weekend and thought it was perfect timing. I had previously watched Una Maid and a few episodes of other novelas here and there.

So far, so good. I like that it is set in L.A. (where I live) and find the establishing shots and various signifiers for the "barrio" or the nice areas kind of amusing. The truck that says "CHURROS" in the parking lot of Pedro's house cracks me up and makes me crave churros. It's a funny detail but not the most accurate. I've lived in East LA a long time and I've never seen a box truck that says that. A scrap metal man truck or box truck for jumpers and party rentals, are often parked in residential areas though. L.A. churro availability, sin Costco, is sadly lacking for some unknown reason.

Did anyone catch what exactly make the villian guy pitch a fit and try to punch out Ignacia? Kid was fussing while i was watching but what I heard she made some mistake with insurance papers and cost him a bunch of money?

J in Oregon, I am really hoping I can keep up with this stuff in Honduras too! I will have internet access, but not sure how clunky it will be, and I know sometimes these streaming websites are picky about which country their videos are available in. I've been trying to watch A Mano Limpia 2 on RCN's website for the past two months, and their videos are only available in Colombia :(

So I am pretty impressed with Ana's performance so far! She's always so "in the moment". And Pedro was a little less puppy-ish this time. Aunt Gina is pretty annoying, but was pretty comical in the scene in the office with Tomas and partner. She was kind of funny, with her flippant "I don't really understand anything you're saying..."

I saw Sofia in Eva Luna... one of the very first tns I started watching. She was the "good girl" tortured by her love for the "wrong guy" (villain). She's been in other things I've seen glimpses of, but Eva and Rosa were the main ones I've seen her in.
 

Welcome, Ana! I started watching telenovelas 2 years ago to improve my Spanish, and have learned TONS! It really is an awesome way to pick up colloquialisms and idioms, etc.

LA PATRONA - Tuesday, (epi 118)

court is in session, Anibal's trial,

meanwhile Lucas wakes up in the hospital,
Balmy is notified, Veronica overhears and wants to talk to Lucas,
this is definitely not ok, but Balmy's intuition reverses that,
they quietly leave the courtroom together,

Poncia crosses paths with Macario as he has a handful of stolen Antonia's jewels,,
she laughs at him, says they are worthless,
he throws them in disgust and leaves,

Balmy and Veronica talk to Lucas' doctor,
his liver was damaged, he probably won't live out the day,

in court, Gertrudis takes the stand,
impresses everyone with how crazy she is,
the judge agrees to not accept her testimony,
and she is escorted out through a convenient back door right next to the witness stand,

Veronica, alone with Lucas, who has no one, works her mother magic,
then makes her Gabriela reveal, they talk old times,
and she tells of the real mine explosion story that killed his dad,
he agrees to talk, Gabriela runs to get Balmy.

Constanza takes the stand, and tells all,
from the beginning, through the manicomio,
(Anibal was unfaithful to her, and I guess she even caught him and Antonia in her bed),
she was afraid for her son,
Alejandro listens quietly from the back of the room,
Patti has tears,
Ricardo introduces the police records showing that her lawyers were murdered,
and her confession of Anibal's crimes was stolen.
she finally broke when Gertrudis threatened to blind Gabriela,
and they later escaped during the fire,

Balmy questions Lucas,
he says David beat him,
(when his mouth lays open, he looks like a rat who just found a nice piece of cheese)
or is he smiling,
Balmy has to ask him about the stabbing,
(and what seems like two days later),
it was Macario, because I killed Chopo,

González and crew arrive at Antonia's to arrest Macario,
Poncia points the way,

Balmy gets a recorder to take Lucas' statement, Veronica overlooks,
Lucas with that rat smile again,
Veronica assures him it's the best thing to do,

Constanza is cross examined by Anibal's lawyer,
there was no record of her being at the manicomio,
he discredits her whole testimony,

the police catch up to Macario by the stables,
a gunfight ensues,
Macario escapes in a little car, but is pursued by González and company,

Lucas confesses to,
killing Prudencia, trying to kill Gertrudis, but she got away, to beating Alberto, to killing Chopo, who killed Valetina and Max, ... but then he dies, (with that smile on his face)

court is adjourned for the day,
Antonia wants to discredit Constanza so her testimony won't be believed,
Alejandro wonders where Veronica is,
Balmy missed the whole thing,

at his office, Balmy tells Veronica that David will be free as soon as he gets the paperwork,
he leaves her and David in his office, they hug as soon as he leaves,
she tells him he will be free,
later Cecilia shows up,

Macario looses the cops,

Anibal, back in his cell talks with his lawyer,
wonders where David is, and is told about Macario,

Antonia shows up at the police station,
she wants to know what's up with Macario, Balmy tells her to ask the judge,
she goes to see David,
and walks in on a group hug, David, Veronica, Cecilia
she meets eyes with Veronica, but always with that stone cold look she has...

I especially liked your very accurate conclusion that "the enredos thicken" (when do they not in a tn?) and the mention of Nina Piamonte...I really do miss PP sometimes...

Thanks Deb. I am so glad Lucas is dead and we don't have to see that weasely face and smile again. Not sure if it was just the actor, or if he was really directed to have that look on his face. It always seemed inappropriate when he was learning about the truth of his father's death, or deciding to confess the truth. It's a shame he didn't get the chance to confess who the "ella" that ordered him to do everything was, but we knew Guerra wasn't going to be exposed this early.

If you keep writing, you'll find that mini-recaps DO get easier once the characters and main plot lines have been set out. Convention and repetition are the minicapper's best friends:D But it is tricky in the early episodes when we are all still trying to figure out Who's on First.

Vivi, the actor who plays Lucas freaks me out. I don't know what direction they gave him, but he was slimy to the end.

I loved how the writers let us know via Fran that Pati and Ric will get a fps. When we saw Pati crying through Coni's testimony about how awful Aníbal was to Ricardo, they made sure to get her wiping her tears with her wedding ring hand and you saw she's still wearing her engagement and wedding rings. Also, Ricardo is still wearing his, even when he was with Luisa.

They showed that Ricardo was always committed to his marriage by making him wear a wedding ring, while Alejandro did not, though Irene did wear her wedding band up until she was with Lucho.

I'm gonna try DYO, but I think they should have reversed the male leads for the protagonista.

I also need TM to keep the impactada music down a notch. It feels so manipulative.

Warmed up to DYO a bit epi 2 as I saw hints at developing enredos. Interesting that Mireya stood up [in epi 1 Pedro wanted to save money for medical bills to help her walk and she wanted the $$ spent on a home for them] and that Ignacia hunted Pedro down.

Q, is the colleague at the constructora the actor that plays Lucho in La Patrona? Big glasses and hard to see him well.

It wouldnt matter weather they were busy or not seeing as Nina lives in Miami and the DYO characters live in L.A.

Kind of surprised that Mireya is capable of walking. Reminds me of LCDAL paralyzed twin plotline. (Anybody ever played the 1989 arcade game "Final Fight"? The last boss was a man who appeared to be crippled but once the wheelchair was broken he got up on his feet and started firing his crossbow!)

Clara i dont think the colleague is the same guy that plays lucho. His name (Gonzalo Garcia Vivanco) wouldve been mentioned on wikipedias page of DYO.
 

EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS, Part 1

Those writers love to tease us, as several dangerous situations ALmost resolved, but not yet.

One thing that unfortunately did come to pass, was that Leo had to sleep with Aurelio. As she lay in her bed, a male form slipped in behind her. No, Ale, I'm sleeping, she says. Guess again, it's Aurelio. Leo says Ale could come in at any minute. No way, replies AC, he's dead drunk. And your skin is so sweet..... The cops listening in are horrified, but what can they do? At least AC gave Leo back her bullets.

Marco reads Eugenia's article in the paper, isn't pleased. He calls her, I didn't want publicity now, I'm in the middle of an operation! She thought we needed some positive stories in the fight against drugs. She confides to Linares that she still loves Marco, but it's over, so she's moving ahead (with Alfonso - I think his last name is Almendariz, or something like that).

Chacorta has a perfect way to solve his child problem - have one with Matilde, the natural way! He comes on to her, grabs her birth control pills, and won't take no for an answer! She's "not ready", is quite upset, but he basically rapes her. The next morning, she says she'll just go buy new pills. Not a healthy relationship here.

Cabo is mad at Tijeras when he finds they were shorted 25% on their shipment. He suspects Oscar, and I think he's going to Colombia to check it out.

Aurelio's hair is much neater today, which means he's in command. In fact, he has two operations going. First, he needs to bust Don Cleto out of jail, and assigns Turco to run that one. Ximena overhears this, and is upset, since Don Cleto's medical condition is so precarious. But Turco approaches her with an idea. What if they bust Don Cleto out, and he goes into hiding, and Ximena and the girls could go with him, to care for him? That way, Xime would sort of get away from
Aurelio. Interesting.

Aurelio's second plan is taking care of Danny, who's brought to the ranch. Aurelio gives him his prize, a suitcase full of dollars. But he wants one more favor, help get Don Cleto out. Danny balks at first, you said getting him arrested was my last duty, I want out. Ah, my Letrudo, you can NEVER get out. Danny gulps, okay, I'll see what I can do, but I'm going to split town soon. (I doubt it, as I think he's a goner).
 

CIELOS, Part 2

Topo had an alliance with Don Cleto (whose full name, I think, is Anacleto Letran). Topo is not happy when he hears that Don Cleto was arrested and had a heart attack.

Yesterday I forgot to mention that Linares has lined up an interview with a reluctant Danny for tomorrow. But will Danny live to give this interview?

Despite some of our conjectures, it appears that 1) the police cannot recognize Danny's voice, and 2) Leo is TOTALLY afraid that Danny will recognize her. She also flashes back again to when Pablo Escobar caught her with that gun the last time she was undercover.

Danny has been brought to the ranch, and Leo sees him from afar, shrinks into a corner. Aurelio introduces his son, then is about to introduce this new babe (Leo), but lucky for her, Danny wants to talk business.

Leo tries to call in, but doesn't know if they can hear her. Finally she hits on an idea. She calls Bert over, I want to go shopping, take me to the mall. Sure, he replies. The cops hear this, and will meet her there. When they arrive, she goes off to the "bathroom", Bert to look at cowboy hats. Will she be able to tell Marco that Letrudo is Danny?!

By now, Balmy has to know that Antonia is the one behind everything. I think there was a scene where Vero/Gaby said she initially was suspicious of him, but now realizes he's on the side of goodness and fairness (lo justo).

We have about 2 weeks left, so they're going to have to throw in a few more problems. The trial is fun, and tonight we may see the "secret weapon" the tigres have.

I was wrong that Antonia was wearing a white belt. She was wearing a black belt (karate?).

It's always fun to see Poncia tell off Antonia, saying something like, I told you so, one by one your friends are abandoning you. Julio, Ramon, Alberto and Lucas are dead, Gertrudis is nuts, the only ones Antonia has left are Anibal, who's in deep doo doo, and Macario, who is a) and wanted man, and b) is mad at her for shorting him on his money. Well, she thinks she still has David on her side. Will she ever show any remorse? Doubt it.

Hombre, welcome back! No, Guerra will not show remorse-the only time she ever did was when she killed Alberto, and I suspect she was angry/guilty at how unpleasant physically killing someone is, than the horrific way she asphixiated him.

Also, when is Guerra going to find out Vero is Gaby? It seems she is literally the last to know. I can't believe she has taken such comfort in the DNA test as to not suspect the reason Vero so wants to take her down is
because she's Gaby.

These Casillas men are horrible! Aurelio told Leo that she "knew" this was going to happen, whether the good way or the bad way. So he was basically prepared to get her "boyfriend" wasted and rape her.

And Beto gets more awful every episode. The scene where he accuses his mother of running off with another man was awful. After the slap, he still didn't back down and appears to have waaaay much respect for his mother than do his father and uncle for theirs.

The actress playing Mathilde is knocking it out of the park. When pleading with Chacorta to stay on the pill, she reminded him how much he loved other men looking at her great body when out in public and his realizing that only he could have her. [Well, that's not quite true!]. So it really is all about fear of her body being less than perfect after a pregnancy. Plus, I'm guessing she's devoid of maternal instincts.

I've just been tagging along here, have some doubts,

Pedro is just too bubbly, coming from a family that is lying to him, and his clingy wheelchair girlfriend who wants to be grafted onto his arm, but with maybe a wonderful sister and pretend mother, and a wealthy aunt/real mother,

Ignacia has/knows, is it zero, good people in her life,

but I was mostly intrigued by Sofía Stamatiades, as the wheelchair clinger Mireya,
I was even thinking we will probably see her walking by the end of the show,
and voila, second episode, there she is standing for us,
(things really picked up in the second episode)

on the wreck, wasn't she accusing Pedro of having another girlfriend, he was driving, and she grabbed his head , and told him to look in her eyes and say it isn't so, and off the road they went, right into a pole, on her side of the car,

(on the insurance earlier, wasn't a guy injured/paralyzed on the job and Ignacia didn't do something so now the insurance won't cover the claim?)

and I'm kind of liking what ever bad things karma can throw at Tomás,
to go along with whatever things I throw at him,

as always, I love Ana Layevska, she is a very talented actress, although I think I prefer her as a "trickster", (love her disguises), she always throws out something interesting, and yes, she is always "in the moment", as AnotherAmy pointed out,

so this should be interesting to see Pedro back at work, and his boss/Mireya's father, he doesn't seem to know what to think.

The best supporting performance of the year was snubbed, Vicky Hernández in Escobar.

Also disappointed not to see Erika de la Rosa or Geraldine Zinat get nommed for Patrona, for me, the only decent things in that show.

And in things that make you go "hmm," - no nom for Spear and Canela for couple for PP, by a wide margin the best pairing of the year. (Ochmann/Hernandez are snubbed as well for RD).

I too fear that Danny is not long for this world. Though perhaps he'll give his interview to Linares and THEN get whacked by whoever Casillas gets to do the job (Chacorta?). Ironically, if this happens, Danny is likely to be portrayed as an honest general devoted to his country and killed by the forces of evil that he was dedicated to destroying. Duh....

I had some uneasy moments last night while watching Leo head for the bathroom at the start of her "shopping" expedition. One of her guards, the guy who had said earlier that she looked familiar, seemed to be watching her as she headed for the bathroom, and he might well have seen Marco heading in that same direction. Especially since Marco's photo was just in the paper, the guard might recognize him and pay more attention. (Yes, I know, I'm an alarmist, but it's hard not to be when watching a narconovela.)
 

Thanks, RG, for posting the nominees for Telemundo's awards. I was surprised to see Gabriel Porras not nominated for any award in ESDLC, and to see Angélica Celaya (Eugénia) nominated, but not Carmen Villalobos (Leo/Claudia). And the guy who plays Cabo listed as the only male villain in ESDLC? At least they did a better job with the female villains, nominating both Fernanda Castillo (Mónica) and Sara Corrales (Matilde), both of whom have done a superb job. I haven't seen any of the other novelas, so I'm not really in a position to vote, just to sound off. :-)

Ana - speaking of churros (I too noticed it on the show), the best one hands down, imho, is a place called Churros Calientes on Sta Monica Bl in Sta Monica. I grew up eating churros con chocolate, and have been searching for a good one for 30years here in the US of A. and the owner, I read, happens to be a former telenovela actor - Sandro Finoglio. don't know of him though.

Hmmm...I just tried to vote in the Telemundo awards competition, only to find that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware "successfully blocked access to a potentially malicious website: 193.169.104.1." The site is registered to Adsmarket, a company based in Israel. Oh well, I could turn Malwarebytes off, but I think I won't bother voting. The only people I was really tempted to vote for were the two female villains in Cielos, Mónica and Matilde, and I'd have a hard time chosing between them.

LA PATRONA & Telemundo awards:

I could write pages upon pages about how fascinating, scary and amazing Manuel Balbi was in LP as Fernando. I actually believed him when he said he loved Gabriela and David, especially when he wouldn't go to rehab until Guerra told him to go for Gaby's and David's sake. I think that hurt Guerra most, that he wouldn't think of getting clean for his mother's sake, but for the woman he raped, and her child. Or when he escaped the rehab Die Hard style when Irene told him Ale and Gaby were gonna get married.

The scene where he apologizes to Gaby, I think it was capitulo 17, was amazing, when he was describing how David had stoned him for raping Gaby. His face, and Gaby's face, as she realizes David finding out he was a product of a rape had damaged him, was heartbreaking. Fernando was the ultimate antihero.

Seems they need to professionalize novela awards as they do the Daytime Emmys, because some of these nominations are puro disparate.
 

How exactly is Rafael Amaya, head cartel guy and villainist of them all, a protagonist? I know he's the head guy but still. Seems odd to see someone like that called the protagonist.

So which side will Dona Alba come down on, assuming Victor's new found desire to have a kid by any means necessary continues? She can't stand Matilde and thinks she should have her own, but she also doesn't like seeing what her boys have become and probably wouldn't condone violence, even against Matilde.

LA PATRONA-Cap 119-MIERCOLES-PART I

Guerra catches Vero, Cecilia and David in a group hug. Antonia asks David why he's falling into Vero's traps. David thanks Vero for letting him know that he's free. "You need to behave like a lady, Antonia," sayeth Veronica. "You think you're better than me?" says Guerra.

At Casa Montemar are Alejandro, Irene and Lucia. Lucia looks better and Irene credits Lucho who makes sure Lucia eats a great deal, and does all sorts of tricks to keep Lucia distracted. Alejandro is grateful to Lucho and notes that he's taking great care of Irene as well. Irene agrees, saying Lucia's suffering and Lucho's entrance into her life has made her a better mother and woman.

At La Fortaleza, Coni and Vero go over the lobo list. Only Antonia, Macario and Anibal remain and they have them cornered, Coni says. Gertrudis and Lagarto, though they agree to help the tigres, are paying for their crimes in this life even as the dead lobos are in the fifth circle of hell. Irene, Ricardo, and Alejandro have been forgiven because they fixed their errors. Alejandro, Vero emphasizes, is one of the great victims of Guerra. (Do you smell the anvil over Alejandro?)

Back at La Dorada, the newly freed David is looking up news articles about the mine when Guerra interrupts him, asking if he doesn't think it's a bit sick to read about such a tragic event. On the contrary, says David, now that I'm older certain facts and discrepancies about the explosion are on his mind. Such as: Why was Tigre in the mine when he didn't work there?; "What was Fernando doing in the mine?" "Tigre was missing and Fran and my mother were looking for him and my mother came here to find him" (Great questions, no?) Of course, Guerra deflects on all these questions, and David pretends all is well at his end.

I'm really loving this tn so far. Ana L. is quite an actress and anytime there is someone faking a disability, I'm intrigued! Skinnyface, schemeing Mireya is great! Buy me a house to roll my chair around in, Pedro! And this may be kind of wrong, but her dad is handsome. I hope we get to see him having a love connection, maybe with Iggy's stuck up mom? Two generations of inter-class romance, maybe?

LA PATRONA-Cap 119-MIERCOLES-PART II

Fran gets a very special but vague news bulletin. She sees a pair of male hands planting dynamite in the mine, and the mine explodes. She wakes up, cries out to Gaston, who's in another room (I guess testosterone does inhibit her powers). She tells him "The mine, the mine, watch the mine."

Patti gushes to Irene about Ricardo's courtroom performance. He was really self-assured, with spirit and with really smart arguments, she says. He overhears as he's coming into the room, and Patti tones down the gushing and tells him, he's doing a good job and the judge is on your mother's side. Ricardo says there's a big surprise in store for Antonia and Anibal that will leave them their mouths agape.

Ricardo releases the bombshell. His star witness is the presumably dead ex-police chief Chacon. Antonia is visibly shocked and tells her lawyer to do whatever he has to stop Lagarto from testifying. "He'll send us all to jail." (Nos va a hundir). So, Anibal's lawyer objects to Lagarto testifying since he wasn't on the list of witnesses, but Ricardo, of course, mentions he couldn't put Lagarto on the list because his life was threatened. Balmy testifies about the hospital explosion that nearly killed Chacon if not for he and Alejandro saving his life, and Veronica Dantes hiding Chacon at her house for him to receive medical treatment. (So now Antonia knows Ale and Vero are working together to take her down.)

Lucho dresses up as a cop to see the court proceedings. He tells the other officer he's new, from Chihuahua where there are a lot of cops, so they sent him to SPdO. The other officer says, well, colleague, here we have a lot of crime in SPdO and no cops. We need you!

Chacon testifies that though he never knew Constanza personally, when the manicomio burned down, Anibal personally asked him to look for Constanza, admitting he had her there looked up. Chacon was to make sure that Constanza was dead.

Lucho nearly gets caught by inepto Gonzalez, but David, in a white shirt, provides a distraction that gives Lucho time to escape. Vero calls Lucho and says you big idiot, why did you show up at the court where it's filled with cops??!! Call me and let me know you're safe. David reassures her Lucho is fine but Vero tells David to go back to court so his abuela he's not her side. "Don't worry, Ma, she loves me." "Her love is as dangerous as her hate," Vero warns. Listen to me and go back in that courtroom."

Lucho shows up at Casa Montemar in a weird cowboy outfit that Irene says makes him look like he's a bachelorette party stripper (despedida de soltera). Lucho does a striptease for Irene and Patricia, who provides the money to make him dance, and then the cops show up. Lucho of course, runs out in time as Balmy shows up to search the house.


 

LA PATRONA-Cap 119-MIERCOLES-PART III

Back at court Anibal's lawyer tries to impeach Chacon's testimony by bringing up the fact he assaulted and killed Gaston's fiance Inocencia. Ricardo strenuously objects, saying this trial is about Anibal, not Chacon. Chacon emphasizes he's not scared to admit he was a criminal, but mostly because Anibal and Antonia sent him on "special jobs" to kill people who got in their way. As an example, he mentions Anibal and Julio Montemar asking him to kill some Native Americans (indigenas), so they could get their lands. He also implicates Antonia as the primary person behind the mine explosion. Antonia, of course, screams that this is defamation since she lost her son in the explosion. And then Fran jumps up and says "And I lost Tigre because of you in that mine." Chacon sides with Fran and says, "Your punishment for setting that mine explosion was to lose your son, but you set it to kill Tigre and Gabriela Suarez." Alejandro walks out of the courtroom at this, visibly upset.

Ale has a sad, saying he wishes he could just leave town and go somewhere where he isn't known as he's so ashamed of his mother. Vero tries to comfort him, saying she wishes they could erase the past, have another story, but he acts like a jerk, rejecting Vero's sympathy, saying (if I heard right), you wanted this day to happen. Vero walks off, and Ale realizes he was a complete jerk and calls himself an idiot.

Court's over and Antonia blatantly threatens Lagarto in front of David, no less, saying she'll expose him as a fake. David sees the visible hate in Guerra's face and looks a bit scared.

Guerra arrives at La Dorada and gets into an argument with Poncia after she says David is somewhere where he's happy, at Cecilia's. Guerra takes umbrage saying "I'm your patrona." Poncia says, "You're a killer." Guerra goes "I know you are but what am I" since you stabbed your husband Poncia. "I killed my husband to defend myself but you kill for greed, ambition and pleasure", she reminds Guerra. Guerra threatens to hand Poncia over to the police and Poncia says, you have no proof. Guerra realizes Poncia helped Lucho steal from the house safe and slaps Poncia, who slaps Guerra back. Guerra jumps on top of Poncia to wring her neck and Alejandro shows up in the nick of time and drags Guerra off of Poncia. "What is wrong with you?" he exclaims to Guerra.

David and Vero are making up for lost time at La Fortaleza. She hugs and kisses him as if he's a little boy. "I'm a little old for this, aren't I Ma?" No, Vero says, I didn't get to see you grow up so I have to make up for lost time. They have a pillow fight, during which Vero faints, and David calls for help.

Gaston brings food to Chacon and they have an argument about how divine justice has come to Chacon since his liver is failing and he can't walk. Chacon "maldita sea"s Guerra, promising to get back at her.

Ana, glad you dropped in to CarayCaray, welcome! Must say I agree with you, Mireya's Dad is quite attractive, and hopefully there will be some twisted romance plotline involving him. I also liked the interaction between Lupita and Moto-boy (Ruben). I thought the Auntie Gina character was going to be "comic relief" but no, she is a force of nature, like a hurricane.

EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS, Part 1

The tension rises, as we’re now in capítulos culminantes! Ximena decides to go along with Turco’s idea, that of agreeing that Aurelio can get Don Cleto out of jail by force, then they’ll send him to the US for his operation (he needs a heart bypass). She and the girls will go. Turco agrees to try to convince Aurelio, but they both know it’s risky. Even though Bert insulted Xime the other day, he also agrees to help persuade his Dad of this plan. So they all approach Aurelio, and he clears the room, preferring to talk alone to Xime. I notice his hair is slicked back, Eddie Haskell style, as he pretends to be the perfect, doting husband, and says “Sure honey. I support your idea. But there’s just one condition. I’LL go, too! We’ll all go, and be a perfect little family, what do think of that?” Xime’s world is rocked, this was NOT what she wanted. But what choice does she have? After first saying I don’t know, she ends of agreeing.

Ponte and Orejas have been listening to Letrudo get a suitcase of cash, and to him promising to help get Don Cleto out. Ponte recognizes the voice, it’s Daniel Jiménez Arroyo, our boss! Shortly thereafter, Marco meets with Leo in the changing room of a clothing store. She tell him it’s Danny! He says he KNEW it all along, just couldn’t prove it ! But that’s the end of your undercover operation, it’s too dangerous. No way, she pleads. I’m really getting close. I can take pictures. We can catch Casillas and Danny both. Is this really about the fact that I had to sleep with him? Marco can’t really deny that, ends of saying she can continue, and the two of them kiss passionately in that little changing room.

Leo later tells Bert she wants to break up with Alejandro. Bert thinks maybe HE has a chance, and she doesn’t totally dissuade him. Later, Mati starts her usual trouble making. She berates Alba for giving Chacorta the idea of producing a child, but Alba says I had nothing to do with that. Chacorta, still suspicious about Bert and Mati, asks Bert if Mati is desirable to him. Bert squirms, says well of course she’s pretty, but she’s my aunt. Mati then goes up to Alejandro and makes the sign of horns, implying that his girlfriend (Leo) is cheating on him (since Mati must have realized Aurelio slept with Leo). And to cap it off, when Chacorta and Bert belittle Mati’s mistrust of Claudia, she shoot back, but did you two know she’s armed? Whoa. Chacorta and Bert did NOT know that!

What’s up with the Colombians? They’re in Colombia now. Cabo says we’ve got to take out Oscar, letting him live was a mistake. Let’s use “Mocho”. They have some guy brought before them. Cabo says, you know what counts the most in life? Palabra (meaning your word is your bond, or say what you mean). Cabo flashes back to when he and another guy were being held prisoner by Pablo Escobar. Pablo asked Cabo for info, Cabo said, look, you can shoot me know, but I’ll never rat out my boss, Oscar Cadena. The other guy said, please don’t shoot me. Escobar raised his gun, shut the coward dead. He liked Cabo for his guts. His palabra. Back to the present. The guy before Cabo isn’t talking. Cabo kills him. Take out the garbage.

 

CIELOS, Part 2

Cut to the prison yard. Oscar Cadena is holding court, playing cards with his buds, wearing a tie. He’s got it all going. A guy approaches in a wheelchair. It’s Mocho. Oscar says look, don’t have any rancor towards me, I wasn’t responsible for your brother’s death. And even if I was, tough. You got anything to say? No, boss, no, you’re totally right, we can be friends. Fine, says Oscar, come back to my cell, we’ll have a drink. Oscar’s flunky says no, boss, but Oscar shoos him away, it’s cool. They go back to the cell, Oscar and Mocho (in his wheelchair). Oscar pours a drink. Mocho opens the newspaper in his lap, takes out a pistol, and shoots Oscar in the chest! Twice.

Claudia asks Turco what he does for Aurelio, lawyer, accountant? He stays mum. In the background, Carmona continues to look at Claudia suspiciously. Marco is so brazen that he walks right up to Turco (I think Bert and Ximena are there, so is Claudia, maybe this is in the hospital) and says you’re going down, man. It’s only a matter of time before all you assassins are stopped. He pays no attention to Claudia, and she pays no attention to him. Later, Ponte says wasn’t that risky? Marco says I’m already on their death list.

Danny comes to where Marco, Ponte and Orejas are meeting. Boys, it’s time to go back to Mexico City. You’re operation is over, okay? Marco boldly stands up to him, but boss, we are SO CLOSE to unmasking Letrudo, we should stay until we get him right? Danny gulps. And it’s only a matter of days. We’ll really make that Letrudo pay. I understand he’s high up in the government. Danny gruffly says, we’ll...um..carry on, and exits, scared to death.

Marco and crew KNOW that Aurelio is going to try to snatch Don Cleto. They listen in as Turco gives Aurelio two plans. First, taking him in the hospital. But there are too many guards. But Don Cleto is going to be moved from Sinaloa to Mexico City, and they can get him in the transfer. If he gets to Mexico City, it’ll be almost impossible to break him out. Marco and crew hear all of this, are going to let things unfold, try to catch Aurelio in the act!

Yes, the excitement is building, tonight’s show should be off the charts!
 

CIELOS, Part 3

Also, Linares got a job in Toronto, teaching journalism, and is leaving immediately, so Eugenia will do the interviews of the bigwigs. Linares admits he always loved Eugenia, didn't she know? She didn't really, but they have a warm goodbye.

Last night's fashions continued to speak for their characters. Irene has another nice pastel dress, showing her softer character. Antonia, of El Dorada, wears gold satin, still shining. In fact, she's been looking quite good recently, although every single development in the trial went against her. The hair was just a touch mussed, though. Poncia looks less and less dowdy every day.

Veronica had a peek-a-boo black dress, showing skin both front and back, maybe symbolizing the surprise witnesses. She also wore a purple print choker-scarf, showing she's tightening the noose. Maybe I'm getting a little carried away here.

Alejandro continues to flail, to falter, to be lost, again with the open shirt, no tie. I agree, his fate is not looking too good.

Lucho had three outfits. First, a whiteshirted, baseball capped cop, then a cowboy-stripper outfit, and finally, he's the grim reaper! Wonder how much his cleaning bill is running these days.
 

Hombre, love the color commentary on the clothes-I think it's a pretty accurate indication of what's going on with the characters, especially Alejandro. He looks increasingly dishevelled,as if he's mentally falling apart. Lucia being gravely sick isn't helping either, plus his extreme mother issues. He told Irene he loved her, platonically, because she's Lucia's mom. So women being motherly is important to him and his mother's murderous nature coming out publically is too unnerving for him.

Hombre, I'm in awe of your ability to produce these superlative recaps day after day. I can't think of anything to add right now--I just wanted to express my admiration and, of course, my gratitude.

Hmmm...I just had a thought or two flash through my fickle brain, so I think I'll note them now before they're gone. One is that the scene with Cabo and Tijeras in Colombia left no doubt as to what vicious scumbags they are. They're so funny that I tend to lose sight of their cruelty, but this scene was a strong reminder. They sit at the outdoor table eating when their thugs come by with someone they've captured. Cabo goes on, as you said in your recap, recounting a piece of advice he'd gotten from Pablo Escobar about the importance of keeping one's word, and then he casually picks up his gun and shoots the captive, just as if he were swatting a fly. And then he and Tijeras go back to enjoying their meal.

The other thought I had was about the scene in the dressing room with Claudia and Marco. I could barely watch, so sure was I that they'd be discovered. She wasn't talking all that softly, and she was there for quite a while. Perhaps the person watching was the same guy she had "educated" about how women shop on her last outing (when she met with Ponte in the dressing room), or perhaps this watcher simply had more patience and/or a less suspicious nature. Anyway, I was much relieved when the scene was over.

as mentioned earlier, the good guys totally outnumber the bad guys,
the police are dedicated to bringing justice,
in the courtroom the judge is competent, which swings everything for the good guys,
(and the good guys have taken the time to get proof),
the bad guys, Lagarto and Macario, are turning on the bad guys,

but for some reason, I don't think Antonia is ready to give up,
(and what will her reaction be to Gabriela being pregnant)

Ruben (is this Ignacia's brother), who has stolen checks from Tomás,
has bought a super hot moto,
complete with leathers,
accidentally meets Lupita (Pedro's sister, we are told),
and is busted with her when he swings by to pick up his drugs,

wheel chair Mireya, rolls up into the middle of the construction site,
runs into,
Ignacia, who she suspects is after Pedro,
Gina, pedro's aunt (his real mother) an important investor in the job,
and her father, Olegario, the foreman,

Gina comes across Estela (Ignacia's mother), and her mother, after 20 years,
(I need some help here)
Gina had a baby (Pedro) with Estela's (then/later ???) husband,
that Estela tried to kill and forced Gina to leave the country,
(do Pedro and Ignacia have the same father)

Tomás (Ignacia's fiancé) is always sleeping with Karina (Ignacia's best friend),
when he is not busy yelling at everyone,
and trying to close the deal with Ignacia,

Ignacia and Pedro, do the gran amor flags go up when they look into each other's eyes?,
no, cause this just isn't going to happen.

If Pedro is Ignacia's father's son....than Ignacia is not her father's daughter. Am I making any sense? If they change his paternity, they'll change hers, too. Only the bad mother will know the truth and keep it quiet to keep them apart. It's always like this...unless this story takes another turn, which I doubt.

Anyway, Pedro and Ignacia didn't sleep together, he woke up on the couch, dressed. But by the time the whole paternity issue blows up, who knows what they do...

Did I understand right, that Gen Dan called Doris & wants to high tail it out of there & Doris said she needed a while?

Aurelio is conjuring up sth after telling Ximena the whole family would go with Cleto. I just hope it's not about Turco. I'm very concerned about him, he is a good bad guy.
 

I thought Doris's reaction was more like "don't be a $%^# coward" and she's not going anywhere. Not a smart move, Doris. They won't just kill Letrudo. If anyone should get to Canada asap, it's them.

It surely looks like Aníbal is toast, based on the judge's rulings so far. They've sort of screwed up the money thing, at least as I understand it. Once she asked him to sign over his millions in the Cayman Islands to her so Balmy couldn't seize them. But then she is still asking him to sign checks she says are for his defense. And they said that his accounts were frozen at one time, so how can he be writing checks on them? Oh well.

Alejandro is behaving like a little boy, hiding his head under the covers so as not to see the Boogie Man. He KNOWS what the ghastly monster who bore him has done to Gabriela, their child that was kicked out of her, and all the other victims. But he can't sit there in the courtroom and hear the truth and doesn't want Gabriela to continue rooting it out. I'm pretty sure he's going to come around, but he's got a way to go and few episodes to do it in.

Deb, this is what I understood about Gina and Estela. Gina was the servant in Estela and her husband's household. Gina had an affair with Estela's husband and got pregnant. It sounds like Estela somehow (pushed her downstairs?) tried to cause Gina to abort. Gina did not abort, gave birth to Pedro and let her sister raise him as her child. Presumably because of the vengeful Estela, Gina had to leave the United States and move to Europe. She's now come back, pretty darn rich. [Did she marry a rich guy or earn it herself?] Estela and her husband (dead?) had Ignacia (later?) so somehow the incest thing will have to be resolved, likely with Estela having been unfaithful.

I agree, Mireya's father is a cutie!

I probably won't last past the first week on this one. It's fairly predictable. And Fabián Ríos is >>>FF over the top as the villain guy. It's impossible to believe either Karina or Iggy would spend one day with him.

Thanks so much, J desde NYC, for your very detailed and enjoyable recap. The keystone cops chase el Lucho Duende was hilarious.

If memory serves, way back before Lucho arrived in SPdO, he escaped from jail after Balmy arrested him for some petty crimes. I think it's a point of professional pride that Balmy wants to put Lucho back in the carcel.

I did feel very sad for Ale when Chacon talked about the mine explosion, Fernando dying and Antonia's instigating the explosion to kill Tigre and Gabriela. Ale's guilt and shame have got to be overwhelming. I'm not sure which of the tigres can intervene to help him through his pain. He's rejecting Gabriela, and doest know about the baby. Maybe David, Irene and Lucia will be his life line.

I think Antonia will kick Poncia out of the house now that she knows Poncia was Lucho's accomplice and the incriminating document is gone. Antonia would truly be alone then.

AC is definitely up to something. I cannot imagine he's being honest, truthful, sincere with Ximena. I think he's setting her up for something painful.

Marco's verbal assault and threats against Turco may be the impetus for Turco to form a separate exit plan. Owning that travel agency should come in handy.

It looked to me like Oscar really did die. Amazing that the prison guards supply the weapon, the opportunity and the getaway for Oscar's murder. I guess I'm still surprised by the depth of corruption in the legal system.

I'm worried for Leo. Even though she clearly can take care of herself, staying at the ranch is like living with vipers, esp. Mati. And I think Carmona is going to remember Leo's face soon.

Yay Anonymous 3;43! Thanks for the link... I've used primicia before, and was watching some capitulos of A Mano Limpia on elcarteltv, but the website got really strange and clunky and stopped working for me. So happy to find it again!!

Moving sale Saturday, so I'm sitting in the midst of an explosion of boxes and bags and piles of stuff trying to sort through it all, and I didn't get a chance to watch yesterday's DYO until just now. The incest plot seems to be getting as popular these days as the "returning in disguise for vengeance" plot. Bleck.

Ruben is turning out to be just like his RP character, bitter, misguided, and delincuente, although he seems to have a bit more of a heart than before (giving Lupita a ride home, acting very sweet with her). Lupita is sweet, but squeaky. I'm not sure I can listen to her voice very long w/o FF thru her scenes.

Speaking of unsung cuties (Mireya's dad), how 'bout that friend of Tomas's from the office? What a doll :)

DYO Thursday 6/28, part 1

Pedro returns to work, Olegario isn’t sure he should be there since Tomas fired him.

Tomas rants and raves about the missing check.

Olegario has a crush on Aunt Gina.

Mireya is worried about Ignacia working in such close proximity with Pedro.

Estela and Tomas have a cozy chat (hmmmm…). Upon hearing that Ruben has bought a moto, Tomas suspects that he may be the check thief.

Pedro enters the on-site office in full-on puppy mode, thanking Ignacia for her support when mamacita was sick. She “casually” questions him about his novia, and he is conspicuously silent when she comments they must love each other very much to want to spend the rest of their lives together.

Lupita and Mireya reminisce about the beginning of Ped-reya’s noviazgo, and Lupita comments that she can’t wait to have a sobrino, then she immediately launches into squeaky apologies… hmmm, Mireya must “not” be able to have children. Mireya looks stony.

Iggy and Pedro make out passionately in the office…for a few seconds. Gina walks in and interrupts them. She is NOT happy.

Estela convinces Tomas that Ruben couldn’t have robbed him, and Tomas seems to relent. Some ambiguous touching happens.

Olegario tries to figure out from Ignacia what happened in the office that made Gina so upset. Ignacia assures him nothing happened.

Gina rushes home and tells Mireya to marry Pedro cuanto antes—she’ll pay for everything. Mireya is suspicious… what’s the hurry?

Olegario visits Margarita to see how she is doing after coming home from the hospital. Margarita is VERY pleased to see him and plays a bit with her hair. Gina shows up and drags him out.

Karina is trying to sacar el clavo de Tomas with another clavo, Juan Nobody. Tomas beats on her door. Adios otro clavo, she’s not interested anymore.

Pedro apologizes to Iggy for the kiss, she tearfully throws him out claiming she never wants to see him again.

 

DYO Thursday 6/27 (yeah, got the date wrong in part 1): part 2

Gina tells Olly that she saw Iggy and Pedro kissing, and they have to do something to keep them apart. It’s a matter of life and death, she says. (…or a matter of incest, she thinks.) Eavesdropper Mireya listens from the bushes, and cries when she hears that Pedro is betraying her. “We’ve got to get Pedro out of that construction site,” insists Aunt G.

Pedro is still standing in the office with Ignacia, and he says he will quit so she doesn’t have to see him anymore, but Iggy says he needs the work to pay for the house with his novia so he shouldn’t quit. But he shouldn’t come near her or speak to her, or come into the office. He leaves, she cries some more.

Gina wants to come live with Margarita and the fam. Margarita’s not so sure. Mireya thinks it’s a good idea.

Pedro comes home and Olly punches him, telling him that he knows everything and he won’t allow him to hurt his daughter. Pedro begs forgiveness and swears it won’t happen again. End of novela.

Ok, not end of novela, because of course it’s going to happen again. Mireya rolls her way into their conversation…”What’s going on here??”

Margarita thinks Gina wants to move in to ingratiate herself to Pedro. Gina tells her that Ignacia is Estela’s daughter, and that he caught P and I kissing… do you realize what that means??? Marge is astonished. The “I” word.

Man, Pedro and Oleg are some LAME excuse-makers. Of course they weren’t talking about you, Mireya… they were talking about the lucho libre… Mireya continues her interrogation and Pedro stretches and yawns, he’s reventado and is going to bed. She demands a kiss goodnight, and the kiss on the forehead isn’t good enough… she grabs him for an angry lip-collision.

Ignacia is walking alone remembering all the kissing and finding out Pedro has a novia, and she vows to get him out of her head and heart. Dang, it’s only day 3, and we’re already to the “I have to get him out of my head… and my heart!” We’re moving along rapidamente here.

Aunt G enlists Margarita’s help in separating P and I. Marge begs Gina not to tell Pedro the truth, because the TN gods will get very angry without their daily offering of secrets and lies. She also begs Gina not to do anything stupid, anything she will regret.

Estela and abuela converse: Estela’s (not-dead) ex-husband doesn’t know he has a son by Gina, and will never know. She doesn’t want to see his face and wishes he were dead. Abuela thinks she should talk things out with him and let him know that his daughter is getting married. Estela isn’t having it.
 

DYO Thursday 6/27: part 3

Tomas and Karina meet in the house-to-be and argue about their relationship. Ignacia interrupts the conversation, asking them what they’re doing there together.

Pedro comes home and reams Tia for getting in his business and causing problems, who does she think she is, his mom?? His mama is standing right here (points to Marge). Gina runs out crying.

Ignacia notes that Karina doesn’t look well. Is she ok? No, she’s not… she just broke up with a guy who wasn’t single and didn’t want to give her a place in his life. Ignacia shakes her head sympathetically… what a jerk. Karina looks at jerk over Iggy’s shoulder as they hug.

Back at Ignacia’s house, Tomas surprises her with flowers, vowing to be a very good husband. She smiles, but looks a little unsure.

Gina arrives at Casa de Pedro with her luggage. She’s moving in. Pedro is not happy and snipes at her. “You want to know why I left the US in the first place? Why, and for who?? I’ll tell you!” [Scene change, of course]

Estela is looking through old wedding photos to remind herself how beautiful she looked that day. Abuela comments that it’s too bad Iggy doesn’t look as excited about her wedding as Estela did in the pictures. She leaves the room, Estela fishes out a photo of a hottie named Enrique (the not-husband) and tells his picture they have a daughter named Ignacia. No one will ever know the truth! Judging by the pace of this story, I’m guessing someone will know the truth by Tuesday. Fin de capitulo.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I love doing Wed recaps because those eps tend to be really good.

Wrt Ale, I don't think anyone can be his lifeline, except his mother because, this being a Mexican TN, and the fact that David and Ricardo got their mothers back tells me that Ale is flailing because he has no mother. Guerra is a failed mother and Ale has, so far, no substitute.
Think about it: Ric's impotence got resolved after Coni came back, and David didn't turn into a drunk and a jerk like Fernando because Veronica mothered him-taught him to respect Cecilia, and told him to stop drinking- beforLAshe revealed herself to him. Ale doesn't have that, so that's why he's lost.

One of The messages of the novela seems to be that men
especially NEED their mothers to love them and model and teach them good morals in order for them to have healthy relationships with their wives. Ale is obviously starved for that, which is why I hope Poncia is his mother so he can get healed. He is Guerra's victim since evrything about his life, from his paternity and marriage is based on murder and lies.
Like David and Ricardo, he needs a mother figure that will just allow him to rest his head in her lap and let him talk and the mother encourage and give advice.

Big WOW! Thanks, AnotherAmy, that was some recap--I enjoyed all the details and the snark too! Especially enjoyed Tomas and Estela's "ambiguous touching", and Mireya-Pedro's "lip collision". That girl is one angry kisser and has looked stony in every scene so far.
I didn't catch that Margarita was interested in Ole-what's-is; she definitely needs to step up her game, put on lipstick, something!
From my viewpoint, many of the characters (except Ignacia) are lacking in complexity. They are either incredibly good or horribly bad. But the plot is fast moving and has plenty of twists, so I'm sticking with it.

LA PATRONA – JUEVES – Part 1

After breaking up the fight between Antonia and Poncia, Alejandro asks her if she plans to fight with Poncia like a street person. Antonia says she’s prepared to fight anyone who gets it her way. We then get an excellent scene between Alejandro and his mother. He tells her she’s harmed people her whole life. David may not care if his grandmother killed his father that he never loved; but, when he finds out she killed his beloved grandfather, he’ll hate her. Not to mention when he finds out what she did to his mother. He screams at her that she killed his brother. Give herself up! Of course, she calls this a stupid idea.

Alejandro goes on to say that her empire is crumbling. Beginning with the death of his father on to the death of Valentina. He reminds her of what she did to Gabriela. She took the mine from her. She took Gabriela's son, and separated her from he himself. Antonia snarls that it’s lucky she’s dead. He tells her, if she doesn’t want to talk about Gabriela Suárez, then he wants to talk about the shame he feels knowing that his mother is a murderer.

Ricardo comes to his father’s jail cell to offer him a deal. Aníbal says Constanza is a liar. He says he’s rich and Ricardo should help him get out of the country.’ Aníbal says he can’t confess and implicate Antonia. It would be like putting a noose around his neck.

Alejandro goes on wasting his breath, telling his mother justice is coming. She insists she’s never harmed anyone. He appeals to her to avoid the shame of a public trial. She says she’s faced shame before and always comes out the victor. She’s going to conquer Verónica Dantés just like she did Gabriela Suárez. She gives him a defiant sneer.

Balmaceda and Antonia both have flashbacks to their rolls in the hay. He calls her, and she wants him to come over. But Ricardo comes into his office before he can weaken. He’s brought Balmy a copy of the autopsy done on Valentina’s grandmother, Natalia. She died from the same drug that killed El Chopo. Ricardo asks what he’s waiting for to go after Antonia. Balmy, however, says the autopsy isn’t admissible because it wasn’t ordered by a judge. Ricardo accuses him of protecting Antonia because he fell for her.

Ricardo and Alejandro meet for a drink. Ale somberly says he doesn’t know how he managed to save himself from such a dominant and castrating mother. His brother became an alcoholic.

Chacón tries to escape from La Fortaleza but is apprehended by one of Gabriela’s guards.
 

LA PATRONA – JUEVES – Part 2

David tries to convince Alejandro to understand his mother. He says he cried alone, an orphan, and now wants to protect his mother. Ale says that he himself cried because he didn’t know how to protect Gabriela. David has gotten very insightful. He asks his tío what will happen when his grandmother pays for her crimes. Will his uncle and his mother be together then or not?

Lucho, looking terrific in all black, has managed to get into Balmy’s hotel room. This is definitely the hotel with the worst security in all México! Balmy comes out of the bathroom in a towel, raising the temperature in my Living Room. Lucho points Balmy’s gun at him and tells him to get dressed; they have a lot to discuss. Balmy tells him this stunt will add more crimes to his rap sheet. Lucho suggests that Balmy can get a photo op of putting handcuffs on him so everyone will see that he’s a hero. Later Balmy can let him go because he has plans and they don’t include rotting in jail.

Antonia has come to try to bargain with Gabriela (whom she still believes is Verónica). She’s willing to let her have Alejandro. They can be at peace. Gaby tells her it’s over between she and Ale. David tells Alejandro his mother never stopped loving Ale, even when he turned his back on her when she most needed him. He asks Ale what he expects [meaning the plan of vengeance]. His mother was imprisoned for years. Her baby was killed. Does Ale expect her to forget all this? Alejandro responds that he can’t ever abandon his mother.

Lucho tells Balmy that he paid for his crime by being in the nuthouse because he fell into the hands of the torturer Gertrudis Aguirre. A ella le encantaba quemarme el coco con electroshock y drogas. Allí me acabaron de aflojar algunas tornillas porque me enamoré con Gabriela Suárez. [She loved to fry my brains with shock treatment and drugs. Plus they managed to work a few screws loose for me there because I fell in love with Gabriela Suárez.] Lucho tells him that now he’s in love with a fresa who can’t even fry an egg, but love is blind. He plans to become a regular guy with a job, a house, a dog, and a houseful of kids. He asks Balmy why men always like the women they really shouldn’t. He tells him he’s an expert, right, since he’s been going after Antonia Guerra like a dog in heat.

Alejandro tells David that all boys grow up with an instinct to protect their mothers. He tells him that when everything falls down, he has to be there for Antonia to pick up the pieces.
 

LA PATRONA – JUEVES – Part 3

Antonia keeps trying to make nice with Gabriela and offers her the opportunity to be a heroine to Constanza. She offers her the head of Aníbal Villegas! Chacón is dragged in by the guards, and Antonia is still there. She slaps him and then asks Gabriela how she could help this guy. Gabriela replies it’s because he knows all the secrets.

After they are alone, Gabriela tells her all she knows. She knows about how Aníbal paid to take Antonia’s virginity in the whorehouse in Monterrey, to initiate her. After that she became La Dorada, the most expensive one of all. Aníbal introduced her to the millionaire, Marcos Beltrán, who fell for her, took her out of the whorehouse. Eventually, when Antonia managed to get pregnant, Beltrán even married her. Antonia looks at her, completely stunned.

Balmy isn’t willing to negotiate with Lucho. He says he’s going to put him in jail because he escaped before serving his sentence. Lucho: “Then it’s about your ego. If that’s the case, what’s keeping you from arresting Antonia Guerra?” Balmy only offers him time served for when he was in the nuthouse. [They keep talking about years, but I didn’t realize Lucho was in there that long.] Balmy grabs the gun away, but Lucho took out the clip before he ever pointed it and manages to get away.

Gabriela tells Antonia there won’t be any deal. She knows that Antonia would stab her in the back just like she just did her dear friend Aníbal Villegas.

Alejandro has come to visit Lucía who tells him she wants a brother or sister. She asks why not Verónica. When he says it’s complicated, she says it’s simple. People love each other and the father puts the seed in the mother … He tells her he doesn’t need this explained to him! Then she tells him she’ll ask El Duende and her mother to take on the task!

When Ale goes to his hotel there’s a manhunt on for Lucho. When he gets into his room, Lucho is ensconced on his bed surfing the web. He tells Alejandro he has no where else to hide.

Chacón is tied up at La Fortaleza. She reminds him that he won’t be getting any dialysis if he escapes. He wants to know why she’s so angry. She tells him he deserves every bit of her hate. She reminds him of when he came to announce El Tigre’s death and that she herself is accused of killing him. His eyes widen. “It’s you! Gabriela Suárez!” She tells him he’s right; she’s the daughter of the man he helped kill. He tries to blame Antonia and Macario. Then he tells her he thought she was in hell. She tells him that is where he sent her to suffer years of horrible tortures. He says he now understands. She wants to use him to punish Antonia and Aníbal and then afterwards finish him off. He says she’s going to kill him. She smiles a very wicked smile.

Novelera - thanks for the super quick recap and the details on those important conversations. David's and Alejandro's talk was especially poignant with David trying to bring Ale back to Gabriela emotionally and Ale saying I can't-I can't -I can't.

I loved Lucho's convo with Rod the Bod (boy! what that man does for a towel!). Lucho's proposition (I let you arrest me and then you let me go) was hilarious.

So cute when Lucia was explaining conception to Ale.

I was a little surprised that Gabriela told Chacon who she is. I thought she'd wait till after the trial or at least after he finished his testimony.

J desde - I agree with much of your analysis of Ale's relationship with Antonia and the terrible void her evil has created in his life. But, precisely because this is a TN, I'm hoping Ale will be healed and saved for the fps and the family he has with Gabriela. I'm wondering if we're going to have mes despues during which Ale goes through a healing process and is later reunited with Gaby.

Thank you for the recap, Amy, so far I'm only able to stay in touch with the show by reading what is said here, so your effort is much appreciated.

I'm glad things are moving along with Pedro and Iggy's fathers, no point in dragging this out as long as we already know what is coming.

What I don't appreciate is the instant falling in love between the leads.
Amy, you make a great point when you mention that 3 episodes in, they are already saying things like: I have to forget you" speech... What is there to forget, a few kisses and talks?
Nothing like a slow burn romance, one that keeps you on the edge of your seat with the will they/ won't they/ when will they game.
Not to mention that I don't consider Pedro so swoon worthy (William Levy? - yes! Jencarlos Canela? - YES! Cristian de la Fuente? - Hells YES!)
 

EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS, Part 1

In a very tough episode, we have some shocking developments. Before we get to the action, here’s what happened in some of the minor plot threads.

Irina sighting! Yes, where has she been? She meets with Ramiro, she wants to get together with Mónica. I’m not sure if it’s for business or pleasure (knowing her, it’s both).

Oscar is, in fact, dead. The reports reach various people. Cabo and Tijeras are overjoyed, want to reward Mocho. Their bald henchmen says not easy, Mocho got 15 years added to his sentence for doing it. Well, they still want to send some babes or something to him in jail. Cabo tells the henchman, we’re going back to Mexico now. So your job is to double production. The guy gulps, and they jokingly tell him they like his attitude. They do go back to Mexico, and Cabo meets with Mónica. He’s still intrigued that she wants him to go with her against Aurelio, and when he asks how far she’ll go in her reward to him, she says “all the way”. Mónica is also pissed that some customers haven’t been paying for drugs, saying Guad is dead, and she’s just a woman.

One guy who’s not happy about Oscar being killed is Topo. He also gets more bad news later in the episode.

After having Marco tell him they were close to unmasking Letrudo, Danny calls Doris, cash out all our money, we’re leaving, probably to Brazil. What, run like rats? She doesn’t want to, they’d be blamed for everything. Aren’t others involved? Yeah, he replies, Huerta, Castro, maybe even that pompous Ramiro. But there’s no time.

Leo causes a little argument with Alejandro to help break up with him. But he wants to talk. He’s in love with her. He won’t let her go. Meanwhile, Leo also cozies up to Bert. She tells him she’s through with Alejandro. He says you like my Dad, right? No way, I like YOU! The young buck can’t resist her seductive charms. Leo also tries to get info from Alba, from Ximena, about what’s going on, but they don’t really know, plus they wouldn’t tell her. She keeps having to balance her ditzy persona with the need to somehow get info.
 

CIELOS, Part 2

Okay, action time. Danny tells Marco the transfer of Don Cleto is going to be at 5:00. He also tells this to the army, who will provide support. But he calls Aurelio, and says go get your father in law NOW (it’s 2:00), you have three hours. So, rather than wait until the transfer, Aurelio is going in guns blazing to the hospital, despite the risk. Chacorta says when we get Cleto, does he live or die? He doesn’t exactly answer this, but Aurelio says we have the green light to take out Mejia. And I want to do it. Uh oh. Leo half hears this, manages to call in on her mike, lots of action is happening now, and we don’t know if they want Don Cleto alive! Marco knows it’s time to move. He calls Danny, who says wait until 5:00. Marco can’t wait, he knows what’s happening. But they’ll be on their own, just him, Ponte, Orejas and a few cops. They rush to move Don Cleto.

Armed drug guys jump into SUVs. Bert wants to go, but Aurelio forbids it. He and Ximena will stay behind. The SUVs zoom towards the hospital.

The cops get Don Cleto into the loading area of the hospital, put him into the car, when here come the druglords! Guns start spitting lead into the afternoon air. The cops are pinned down. Aurelio yells, you’re not getting out of here without giving us Don Cleto! Suddenly, Don Cleto jumps up, grabs Orejas. Shots are fired, and Orejas is hit! Don Cleto escapes, Ponte rushes out, and HE’s hit! Carmona grabs Don Cleto, and Carmona is hit! Don Cleto is pulled to safety, and the druglords zoom off, leaving Marco in shock and disbelief. He pleads with Ponte to hold on, is aghast at Orejas’ condition.

Sadly, Orejas is dead. Carmona is, too. Ponte is wounded, looks as if he’ll make it. But Don Cleto escaped! Bad day for the cops. Eugenia gets the news.

Topo hears that Aurelio rescued Don Cleto, and now he REALLY doesn’t know what to do, as Don Cleto was his other ally, besides Oscar. Aurelio has Don Cleto taken to a safe house. Ximena asks Turco, aren’t we all leaving together? Turco’s downtrodden look shows that plans have changed. Cut to Aurelio, grilling Don Cleto, so tell me, traitor, what were you doing joining up with Topo!

Leo is distraught, what’s happening? She starts talking into her mike, when here comes Matilde! What have we here, you little snitch (saparita)! Yes, fine, spits out Leo, I’m spying, what ya gonna do about it? They start fighting, and Leo gets Mati in a headlock, chokes her unconscious. She then ties her hands, drags her into a bathroom, and bolts the door. She whips out a hidden satellite phone, calls base. What happened? Marco tells her Orejas is dead, Ponte is hurt, Don Cleto was taken. The news hits her like a ton of bricks. Then Bert comes in, what’s that big phone in your hands? Aaaaaa!

But there’s a little tease at the end, as Danny prepares to vacate the country, who should walk into his office? Eugenia, having taken Linares’place, it’s time for her interview!
 

LA PATRONA:

So many great scenes in last night's ep. That Alejandro/Antonia scene was electrifying. She outright told Alejandro, 'Yes, I set Gaby up and will hurt Veronica Dantes and you won't be able to stop me.' And Alejandro's answer that 'Truly God blinds those he's about to punish' was just perfect! It's as if he realized that Antonia can't see Vero is Gaby, despite the fact most everyone else knows, because she's headed for disaster at Vero's hands.

The Antonia/Vero scene was also amazing. Vero was in full black, save the dark purple knotted scarf, and she just told Antonia about herself and looked as cool and calm as the other side of the pillow while doing it. Aracely was really amazing in that scene. And we finally learned how Antonia met Marcos Beltrán, and that he did the same thing Tigre did for Fran, took her out the prostibulo AND married her when she got pregnant with, presumably, Alejandro.
And Antonia's messy hair and shocked face while Vero basically told her about her past-best acting TN or no, I've seen in a bit.

I'm a bit scared by the Gaby revelation to Chacon, because what made Vero different from Antonia was that she didn't kill anyone. If she's willing to tell Chacon who she is, is she basically gonna double-cross him after he testifies, and hand him over to Guerrato be killed?
I still don't get why Ale is so committed to basically dying for Guerra's sins, or as he said 'pick up the pieces when she falls on her face', other than the fact that Mexican TNs are big on not betraying family, especially your mother, but it is consistent with the rest of yhe novela.

Pasion Prohibida is a tough act to follow. The PP characters were nuanced, the plot was more than just a series of set conventions. It was a thinking man's (woman's) novela. *Sigh.* I still miss it.
Even the intro music to DyO (although I love Roberto Tapia) is so jarring compared with JC Canela's "Dime".
More sigh...

AdrianaNoel, you hit on what was really bothering me, that Iggy would be SO bent out of shape over Pedro based on that encounter. Even if you accept it is some love at first sight thing, not credible.
I ultimately decided part of what has Iggy in such turmoil is that she has doubts about Tomas and general life/career angst since, after all, she works with Tomas too.
Liking the pace and quick resolution of tha parentage problem.

Thanks for the great recap. ITA with the coments so far about the great scenes last night. I also couldn't believe that Gabi told Chacon her real identity. It's not like he's on his death bed like the others, and he's already shown he's not trustworthy by just trying to escape. They still need him to testify. I just don't see anything good coming from this.

Comparing DyO with PP is like comparing apples to diamonds.
PP was a different kind of story, one that drew inspiration from a different culture, and that showed a lot. That is one of the main reasons it wasn't the huge hit Telemundo expected, I think. Who loved it, was obsessed with it (like yours truly), but normal TNs don't work like this.

I'm going through withdrawal, too and it especially bugs me because I can't go back and watch B&B best scenes, because their ending was anything but happy and it's all still to new and raw to me. Maybe down the line...

DyO is a clasic tn, that will have all the classic tn clishes and stories. Which doesn't mean it won't be good. I'm not sure if I'll keep watching, I need a good hero to keep me interested and then the story follows, but Pedro does nothing for me, curls and puppy eyes included.
I might stick around for the great chats, though. :)

 

GENERAL TM:

I watched the first ten minutes of the first ep of DYO and was totally disinterested. Tomas was too cartoony villainous, and would have looked better as the galan in a hard hat.

I hope Marido en Alquiler is better because tns really help me learn Spanish, but I need a good, complex, credible story a la La Patrona, which I already know I'll miss terribly, to keep me interested.

Thanks, Hombre - great recap. And I really liked the way you organized the two parts. The guns-ablazing rescue of Cleto was frightening. Amazing that innocent bystanders weren't gunned down.

I guess Carmona's death would have removed any risk of his identifying Leo, but now Leo has bigger problems with Mati tied up in the bathroom. Leo has got to get off the ranch.

I felt so bad for Ximena when she asked about leaving for Canada and both Alba and Turco looked guilty and wouldn't answer her. AC is such a bastard.

Monica was not impressed with Cabo's $100 mil statuette. She'll probably put it out in the trash.

The Colombo-kids are so deceptively funny to watch. Their high-low five antics are amusing, but they're just as deadly as AC.

I don't think Cleto's going to need that operation. And I wonder what spin AC will put on it for Ximena.

Wow! A great recap of a very exciting episode. Muchísimas gracias, Hombre.

Leo has been getting increasingly careless, and I fear what we saw last night could do her in. Doesn't it occur to her that people could come in and see/hear her when she's on the phone or talking into the mike?? Moreover, though she seemed quite capable of handling Marco when they had a physical fight several weeks ago, she had a surprisingly hard time subduing Matilde, and then, to make matters worse, Leo does a pitiful job of dumping Mati in a closet with nothing over her mouth to prevent her calling out and with her hands tied in front of her. Doesn't Leo ever watch crime shows on TV?

So we finally had an Irina sighting. I found it interesting that Irina tells Ramiro that she's not jealous of Ximena--of girl friends, perhaps, but not of the wife. And two seconds later she's saying she wants to meet Mónica. Hmmm.... Until recently, I wouldn't have thought Irina would stand a chance against Ice Queen Mónica, but I'm not as sure as I used to be. The meeting should be interesting....

Speaking of Mónica, I loved the scenes with the statue Cabo bought, first the scene in Colombia and then when he presents it to Mónica (that was the same statue, right?). Even Tijeras thought it was nuts to pay $100,000 for it, though I guess $100,000 to an increasingly successful narcotraficante like Cabo is like $100 to me.

Marco is pretty impressive as an investigator. He realizes that Aurelio and company are about to try to rescue Don Cleto when he sees that Ximena is not present at her father's bedside.

That quick glimpse in the theme song of a hooded and bound person who is apparently about to be executed is troubling me more and more as I try to figure out who it's likely to be. Don Cleto? I can't believe Aurelio would do that, not because he has any feelings for Don C but because he knows it would likely kill things with Ximena and perhaps with AC's kids as well. The next likely person is either Leo or Turco. I hope I'm way off base.

Hello usual suspects! I enjoy reading your comments, even if I'm not watching this, precisely cuz I don't buy the love-at-first-sight scenario. I too enjoy a slow build-up, if only in tn land. And I really don't see the two as leading-role material, even though I think Ana L. is a good actress (loved her in Fantasma).

Great recap, Novelera! I especially liked your take on Balmy raising the temperature in your living room!

I don't think Gaby will kill Lagarto, and I don't think she'll turn him over to Antonia, either. Actually, when he was trying to escape, I felt he was going after Antonia to kill her, and they should have LET him escape. He certainly was muttering something about revenge. So I figure he'll try this again, and either Macario or Antonia will shoot him at the last minute. But there are lots of other possibilities, too.

I sure hope Alejandro gets over his mother thing, and lives. If he doesn't, I can see that driving Gaby over the edge, too, somehow. I think way back Gaby vowed that one day Antonia would be on her knees, begging Gaby for mercy. I can just see that scene. And if
Ale doesn't make it, would Gaby be merciful?

One thing I missed while on vacation was smooth Ricardo (w/o the glasses). Will he come back?

So, I think the only people who don't know Vero is Gaby are Antonia, Anibal, Macario and of course Gonzalez.

and later, there is Don Cleto, gulping tequila,

leave it to Cabo to come calling with a statue of a naked woman in a paper bag, for his lady,

ah Matilde, she just won't go away,

earlier when Aurelio added the condition to Ximena, for rescuing Don Cleto and taking him away to get the bypass operation, that they all go together, (which I thought was a clever way to bond his family) that said to me that the unspoken part "B" was that Don Cleto wasn't going anywhere alive,

I'm confused that Marco knowing what Aurelio was up to, and knowing that GenDan is in cahoots, that he let himself be caught out in the open like that, and then after that went bad, he didn't then raid the Aurelio ranch, if for no other reason than to get Leo.

I really enjoy that you throw in the little details,
like Gabriela talking about Antonia's earlier life,
I don't always get those parts,

and wow, David pulling aside his Tio for a man-to-man talk,

Veronica's place really is a fort, surrounded by walls and gates,

when Antonia was offering Veronica, Anibal's head,
(was that Constanza's proof that we never saw her destroy)
I was wondering if they were recording that conversation to show Anibal,

or recorded Lagarto's confessions as they talked,

and the final scene with Lagarto, no sympathy here,
this guy drives Veronica to her limits,
was she loosing it,
or was she just talking his language.

as Veronica continues to push the lobos into a corner, they seem to becoming even more desperate, could we tolerate Gabriela being harmed again, or losing her baby, I don't think so, and I don't think Alejandro could either, you know, the guy that has been fighting evil, with only words and reasoning.

Deb - I had forgotten about the very obvious communication hardware hooked to Gabriela's back waistband. IF Mexican courts are like American courts, the info obtained from recording conversations is only admissible if there is a court order. So, are Ricardo and the judge in on the taping, or is this another case of Gabriela pushing the legal limits? Did Gabriela have advance knowledge that Antonia was going to visit her?

Gabriela isn't going to kill Chacon. His fear of Gaby is based upon what he and Antonia would do in the same situation. Maybe Gaby's evil grin is meant to further scare him into making more incriminating statements.

Right now I think with her pregnancy Gabriela is bullet-proof. She's already suffered the years-long separation from David and then the murder of her unborn child.

Loved your recaps, Hombre! Again, you missed your calling if you're not a screenwriter for action movies.

I was behind and planned to watch only Wednesday's Cielos after last night's La Patrona and doing a recap of it. But, of course, I stayed up later than I like to do watching last night's as well.

Everyone, including Viewerville, knows that Aurelio isn't going to go off to Canada with his family. I guess we'll find out why he told Ximena that whopper.

I feel bad about myself sometimes with my rather evil thoughts, but I was hoping Leo finished Mathilde off! Of course, she's going to be around to do a lot more damage.

I couldn't believe she was willing to destroy Aurelio's relationship with the singer, Alejandro, by revealing his having boinked Leo. She just HAS to live on the edge. I was somewhat surprised Aurelio didn't appear that upset. He's trying to smooth things over with Ximena, and I'm surprised he wasn't ready to bash her head in for her reckless comments.

I found the distances and timing confusing. Practically as soon as Marco decided to move Cleto, the bad guys got from the ranch to the jail. I thought Marco would have time to get him out of there.

Wow, capítulos culminantes! I always watch the episodes recorded and skip commercials, so I hadn't seen that.

but he can't stop the flashbacks of accusations against her,
from atop her on the bed, he moves to the door,
asks her to leave,

the odd couple (Lucho/Alejandro) arise for a new day,
Alejandro: are you using my toothbrush?
Lucho: why not, we kiss the same women.
Irene shows up,
breakfast for Lucho, Alejandro's favorite coffee,
Alejandro makes it out the door before anything else happens,

(is this the guy from the beginning of the show that was going to help Tigre with the mine,
but the lobos took him to the Doll House, got him drunk, women, and took pictures,
then blackmailed him into leaving)
he is here to testify against Anibal,

Veronica visits Anibal at the jail,
he tells her to leave,
she shows him a recording of Antonia offering his head for a pact of peace,

it's a new day at the courthouse, as everyone takes their seats,
Antonia, instead, is meeting with Macario,
she has $100K in a brief case for him,
he keeps his gun pointed at her,
oh and make it $500K if he kills Veronica,

well, ok,
and do me a favor and take out Lagarto who is staying at Veronica's,

he doesn't want him to arrest her,
he just wants to make sure she doesn't disappear,

Alejandro leaves, Gabriela sends David after him, they talk,
David finishes and leaves, Veronica moves in,
(another amazing performance by Aracely, working through the different layers of her character)
Alejandro is spinning, desperately holding on to the fact that Antonia is his mother,
he keeps pushing Veronica on how far she needs to go to be satisfied,
kill her?
did she say, yes I want her dead, but I want her living dead,
their talk ends, she gets quiet, he leaves,

Antonia struts in to see how the trial is going,
Balmy snags her outside of the courtroom,
Antonia looks into his eyes, he...

However the secondary plotlines are becoming interesting (Auntie Gina, Squeaky and Moto-Boy, even Oregelio (?) and Margarita, who has not been told about her cancer because "it might upset her"!
Also, Toma's business partner is quite the sweetie, also watch-worthy...

Juanita - we're in the Denver area and have Dish service. Our Telemundo captioning is 'fair' at best; it frequently works for part of a show but then stops working for large chunks of time. The problems effect both Spanish and English CCs. Univision CC is usually excellent. Don't know if this helps with your situation.

What a riveting scene between Aurelio & Cleto. Great acting for both.

Even Chacorta was impactado at AC killing his suegro. Apparently he didn't know that AC had set up Cleto for his arrest. I thought Chacorta knew about all of AC's shady dealings.
Turco asked AC what really happened to Cleto. He understands AC better than anyone & knows what he is capable of.

I thought Leo was a goner but Marco to the rescue. It looks like they collected all the listening devices.

Gen Dan is in big trouble, I hope it leads to Ramiro, Castro, Huerta but I don't think they have been incriminated on the tapes.

If Pablo Escobar & La reina del sur were as good as this TN, really sorry I missed them.

Yes - the guy Gaston met with was the same one Anibal and friends blackmailed to prevent him from helping Tigre with filing the mine papers. Don't remember his name. Didn't he say his life had been hell after his trip to SPdO to help Tigre and that he had lost his job and his wife divorced him? So many lives the lobos viciously destroyed.

Alejandro and Lucho are so cute together. I loved the little toothbrush scene. And the way the laptop went flying when Ale told Lucho to keep his hands off it.

So, it looks like Anibal is going prison - if he lives to make the trip. When Antonia finds out what he said in court, he's toast.

I too wondered about Gabriela's telling Alejandro she wants Antonia to be "living dead". That implies worse than prison (which Ale agrees should happen), but I cannot conjure up what Gaby has in mind for Antonia's punishment.

Our handsome policeman is brokenhearted but back to doing his job. The argument he had with Ricardo about how much evidence he needed to arrest Antonia was interesting. Usually it's Ricardo telling people that they don't have the evidence to lock up the lobos.

Macario clearly is not going to get the chance to spend all that money. And I thought he got an evil glimmer in his eye when Antonia told him to kill Lagarto and where to find him. Macario would pay to kill Chacon.

Random things from Fri night's epi:
Mireya announced to the assembled family and friends that she and Pedro were getting married. Pedro looks annoyed but congrats all around!
Estela gets a call from someone at moto boy's school. Sorpresa, he hasn't been at school .... for six months! And the school fees?
Ignacia was busily at work setting up Tomas's sweet colleague [Juan Manuel?], with her two-timing pal Karina, [remember Karina told Iggy she'd just been dumped], let's the four of us get together at my place tonight. Karina seems to only agree because she wants to hang out with Tomas.
Before that get-together can happen Olegario went to Tomas and told him his novia Ignacia was kissing someone else. Tomas's angry face was pretty scary.
So Tomas goes over to Ignacia's house and pulls her out of the house to go clarify things with Olegario. When they get there, Olegario ultimately says he was repeating some gossip and whew, all dies down.
Oh, and Mariano, Estela's ex, called the house and abuela answered the phone.

My captions weren't working, either. I normally don't use them, but decided to use them in reviewing my recording to add detail. They were working the day before, but not last night.

Aurelio berates Don Cleto, how come you betrayed me with Cadena? Cleto says I don't know any Cadena, let's talk calmly. No sir, replies Aurelio, this can't be fixed with just words. Cleto says what happened to codes, to rules? Aurelio doesn't care, Cleto was trying to steal his drug routes. Cleto fires back, for some time, you've betrayed your wife, your children, even your own mother! Ximena has known for a while what kind of person you are. That you killed that Cardinal, those newspaper deliverymen. And I know you're involved with the government, who is it? Fine, old man, I'll tell you, it's General Daniel Jimenez Arroyo, and Ramiro Silva the president's cousin. How do like them apples!

Eugenia arrives for her interview with Danny, just as he's closing that suitcase full of cash, telling Doris they have to leave. Eugenia doesn't see this, though. Doris goes to get coffee, Danny doesn't want to do the interview, but Doris tells him to be a man. He does it. He calmly tells Eugenia he's been fighting the drug scourge in the country. We have arrested lots of druglords. No, not Casillas, but he's just one of many. And you ask if he has contacts in the government, well, we don't have any proof of that. We got Don Cleto Letrán. Yeah, smiles Eugenia, but he escaped. That's right, says Danny, the official in charge failed. Marco Mejía. Her smiles goes away. It's nothing personal, says Danny, but Marco's failure is why Don Cleto is free. The interview ends, Eugenia leaves, and Doris tells Danny he did well. Yeah, but if Mejía has proof against me, and I think he does, I'm screwed. I'm leaving the country. Yes, like a rat. You coming, or not?

At the ranch, Claudia pretends she's talking to her Mommy on the big satellite phone to convince Bert she's okay. He doesn't believe her, so she starts kissing him. Marco jumps in his car, heads to the ranch with backup. Claudia asks Bert if he has condoms, and he goes to get them out. We see Matilde is still unconscious a few rooms away.

Chacorta arrives at the ranch, tells Ximena that Cleto and Aurelio are at the safe house, but Cleto's condition is weak. But where's Matilde? She wakes up, pulls off the kerchief covering her mouth, tries the door, yells for help! The radio barks, cops are entering the ranch. Turco tells Chacorta to hide, now! He wants to find his wife first. Mati escapes the room, runs in, I told you, that bitch was police! She tied me up! Chacorta and Mati leave, Alejandro looks bewildered, Ximena, Alba and Turco are distraught. Bert hears the noise, pushes Claudia off him, pulls out his gun! She says don't shoot, the police are coming, and you'll be arrested. The police do arrive, in force. Turco gets all indignant, where's your search warrant, this is a private family home. Well, sue me, replies Marco, we don't have a search warrant, boys, check everywhere! Leo gets the best of Bert, grabs his gun, just as Marco arrives.

The search comes up empty, but Marco is defiant. Who ARE you? Asks Alejandro of Claudia. I'm agent Leonor Balastreros of the anti-drug unit. Alejandro and Bert both accuse each other of stupidity and gullibility. Bert gets all tough, get out you police pigs! Quiet, says Ximena. Right, says Marco, listen to your mother. Don't end up like your father. Or you'll have to deal with me. And you'll end up spending your life in jail.
 

CIELOS, Part 2

At the safe house, Aurelio admits to Cleto that he used the government, and the Cardinal thing was a little favor. It's dirty, says Cleto. Nah, it's master planning. I killed five birds with one stone, Villalobos, Guadalupe, and others. And you know what else? Remember that shipment I sent you? I set YOU up, you stupid old fool! Oh, so that's it. Well, says Cleto, what are you gonna do with me now? Well, you know the codes, says Aurelio. What do we do with traitors? Now Cleto is REALLY mad, did you forget all I did for you? I set you up in the business, I gave you routes, knowledge, when your father died, I adopted you. I was like a father to you, I gave you a house, a home, I let you marry my daughter! Stop this or you'll have a heart attack, says Aurelio. Oh, that's what you want. Why don't you just call Chacorta to do what you don't have the guts to do. Quiet! You're no man. Quiet. You're a coward. Quiet! Shut up! Shut up! Aurelio grabs Cleto, starts choking him, keeps repeating shut up, shut up! Don Cleto roars, kill me, you'll always picture me, when you look at your wife, your children. Shut up! Says Aurelio, Shut up! And then Don Cleto does shut up. For good. Aurelio has killed his wife's father, with his bare hands!

He tries to revive him, but it's too late. Chacorta, Matilde and some guards enter, see the scene. Mati keeps putting them down, I told you about that bitch, how come no one listens to me? Chacorta and Aurelio don't want to hear this, and kick her out. How COULD you? Asks Chacorta, your father in law! He made me do it. And he betrayed us. It's his own fault. They agree to tell Ximena it was a heart attack. And Turco will have to take care of the body.

At Mónica's house, she's working her seduction on Cabo, he can be boss of Colombia, she'll have Mexico, we just have to get rid of Aurelio. Cabo isn't too keen on this. Mónica tells him don't think Aurelio has any loyalty to you. Cabo agrees, in this job, NO one has loyalty, you might be setting me up with Aurelio in the next room, and I'm touching his merchandise (her). Nah, she coos, you can check, no Aurelio in MY house. But I've got lots of interesting places in the house I can show you. Off they go to the bedroom. They arrive, nice “dining room” you have here, he says. You know what? We can be partners. But let me handle the Casillas part, as I see fit. Mónica smiles, lies back on the bed. Whatever you say, honey. Cabo asks are you doing this for business, or for revenge? Both, she coos. But one more thing, she adds. I want to be the last thing Aurelio says, when we send him off to the next world. You got it, says Cabo, and they kiss.

After the commercial, they fall back on the bed, naked, holding sheets, he showing a not quite so fit body, lots of gray chest hairs, that was AMAZING! Not sure if she's faking it. Now for business, what partners can we hook up with here in Mexico? Only one, she replies, Topo Galván. Uyyyy, he replies, that may be a problem (since Topo was with Oscar, and they just killed Oscar). Oh, I guess your forte isn't diplomacy, she says. But let me talk to him.

 

CIELOS, Part 2

Cut to Topo, telling Pollo with the death of Oscar and Don Cleto's heart attacks, we need new partners. And no more Mexicans, I'm going to the top. The American. I didn't quite get this guy's name, maybe Randy? Topo calls him in Los Angeles, he answers in English, and we have a new character.

Ximena tells Turco, at least NOW Aurelio will realize we have to leave the country. Turco is silent. You mean, she asks, he's not coming? I don't know, Ximena. Well, then at least keep helping me to leave. He nods.

Leo's wig is off, she thinks the whole operation was a failure. No mikes are left at the house. Marco informs all that the operation is over. Leo is distraught, so much sacrifice, for nothing. No, says Marco, it was a success, we unmasked Danny. I'm going to arrest him. He calls Benitez, I have something important, very delicate to tell you, in person. Let's meet tomorrow.

In a Sinaloa hotel, Marco comes in to see if Leo is okay, he's brought something to eat. Does she want to talk? Nope. For now, leave me alone. But she can't take it, please, Marco, hug me, please, and they hug, as the tears flow.

Ximena and Turco continue to discuss her leaving, when Aurelio arrives, looking downtrodden. How's my father? Sorry, honey, our dear old man died in my arms. I'm so sorry.

RIGHT.
 

Telemundo - general

Beth, thanks for your response. Until last night, I had no major problem with captions on Telemundo. At times, they were a bit garbled, but on the whole, they worked fine. But last night, nada. I just tried to see what was true today. I've got English captions on English-speaking networks channels like ABC, and I have Spanish captions on Comcast Chanel 15, which used to be Telefutura--I'm not sure what it's called now, perhaps UniMás. But at the moment, the shows on Univision and Telemundo are captionless. Since they're not telenovelas nor news, it's hard to know whether they'd normally have captions. But I'm feeling nervous.

Amusingly, one of the Capcha words I'm currently being asked to type is fwords. Have they been listening to me curse at my TV?

When Chacorta arrived at the ranch and told Ximena that Cleto's condition was weak, I initially thought he knew AC was going to kill Cleto and was preparing Ximena for the big lie about Cleto's death. But then when Chacorta reacted so strongly to AC's admission that he'd killed Cleto, I realized that Chacorta was probably genuinely concerned about Cleto's health.

How did Mati escape from the bathroom? The door looked pretty solid to me and Leo had locked it. And was that blue gag on her mouth yesterday?

Beto really showed his "little tough Aurelio" side when he and Alejandro got into accusing each other about Claudia/Leo. I'm sure Ximena saw his posturing and threatening Ale as further proof that he is lost to her.

What a disconnect. Our narcissistic Mati sees Cleto dead and AC and Chacorta obviously agitated and disturbed, and her focus is on HER ("she keeps putting them down, I told you about that bitch, how come no one listens to me?") I do hope she can't get pregnant.

Well, part of what AC is true. AC was holding Cleto when he died….

I was thinking earlier that Aurelio, having done time, had no outstanding charges against him, but now being seen at the shootout where a cop was killed, he joins Chacorta on the wanted list,

interesting predicament GenDan is in, Doris acts as if she is immune, so how will the clever guy that plays all sides handle this one, (I keep thinking of the real life article NovelaMaven posted way back when).

Variopinta, you're right. Doris did not want Danny to go to Aurelio to collect the money. She felt it was likely to be a trap, and she and Danny didn't need the money. Also, if I recall correctly, she originally didn't want to flee, as Danny wanted. She thought it would look suspicious, as well as cowardly. It's not clear that she wants to leave even now. Danny says something to her like "are you coming with me or not?"

So Cabo and Mónica have done the deed, and in Mónica's bedroom, no less. Will Cabo stay over? If so, will he be there when Irina comes to see Mónica at her house, as I think she is supposed to do the next day? I wonder where this will lead....

Another tough episode. I agree, once they start killing their own people, the downhill slide begins. There are similarities to Pablo Escobar.

Variopinta, I saw both La Reina del Sur and Pablo Escobar, and both were excellent. Pablo had some similarities to this show, but was extremely chilling, as almost all of it was true (and to me, Pablo was much more ruthless than Aurelio).

Both of the novelas can be bought complete on Amazon. I have La Reina, it has two parts, 6 discs each, about $18.99 each, very good quality (but no subtitles). You can apparently buy Pablo, 15 discs, also w/o subtitles, it's not a bootleg, it's the official version, but it's about $89.00. I didn't get that one.

La Reina is different, because the main character actually IS sympathetic, although a druglord, and DOES have a code. I strongly recommend it.

Variopinta, Doris does not need the money, her family is ultra rich, that's her house they're living in. But she certainly doesn't want to leave town. What about her social circle? :)

Beth, I was wondering the same thing about Mati's escape, and about the gag now in her mouth. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when Leo locked her in. Indeed, that was one of the things that astonished me--that an experienced agent like Leo would leave Mati ungagged and with her hands tied in front of her rather than behind. Now where did I put my beanie?

These trials continue to be amusing. Anibal's lawyer objecting but Ricardo saying you can't, it's your client. But of course there are supposed to be questions, and answers, not a long rant about something unrelated to the charges. Why did the lawyer even put Anibal on the stand? If it's a criminal trial, it would have been better if he didn't testify at all. But not nearly as fun for us!

Variopinta, I don't think Leo had any opportunity to gag Mati later. As soon as she locked her in the closet, she started her phone call, and she was in the middle of the call when she was surprised by Beto.

Also, even if she had had an opportunity to go back to gag Mati, she surely would/should also have retied her hands behind her back, since gagging someone is useless if the person can simply reach up with her tied hands and take out the gag.

No, I think this is very likely a heavy-duty beanie moment. :-)

There was a gag on Matilde's mouth when she was put in the bathroom, but the avances that night (Thurs?) showed Matilde getting it off. And in Matilde's defense, she WAS right about how everyone should have listened to her. If she hadn't been such a little snot all these years, maybe they would have.

It's pretty bad when your go-to guy for murder and mayhem thinks you might be losing it. Chacorta looked very concerned about Aurelio, and not just in a "you killed you father-in-law" sort of way.

The scene with Leo and Marco was really touching, showing her having to deal with all the ranch stuff. All these actors are just so good.

Fantastic recap, Hombre. That was just an amazing, amazing TN episode.

I knew, of course, that Aurelio was going to kill Cleto. I couldn't envision any other outcome. But, as it played out, it seemed he didn't really want to do it. I got the impression he wanted to punish him for the things he'd said to him. As he said before: NOBODY talks to me that way. But Cleto wouldn't stop telling him the truth, one fact after another. And he lost it.

I loved the ease with which Leo got the best of wannabe bad guy Beto.

So Aurelio's plan is for Turco to "take care of" Cleto's body, somehow concealing that he was strangled, rather than a heart attack?

Aurelio is paranoid. He does smell something about Turco and Ximena. But he obviously isn't ready to "know" that yet, or he wouldn't trust Turco with the knowledge that he'd killed Cleto.

I agree, Hombre. La Reina del Sur was the best novela ever. Well, I did love Amor Real also. But La Reina was a realistic novela.

Kelly, I don't know whether they show different versions in different parts of the country, but I just went back and looked at my tape of Thursday's episode. It shows Leo dragging Mati into what I thought was a closet but on second look may be a bathroom. She does NOT gag Mati, she just dumps her there, exits, and locks the door. I then looked at the avances at the end of the episode. Mati does bring her hands to her mouth, but it looks as if she is trying to untie with her teeth the knot tying her hands. There's again no sign of a gag. When she doesn't succeed in breaking the bond tying her hands, she gets up--and again there's no sign of a gag (it would have been on the floor, most likely). I think the gag was added later when the writers realized that there SHOULD have been one.

The best thing about last night's episode was Alejandro and Lucho. Loved your "odd couple" comment. It was SO funny when Lucho basically said: no reason not to use your toothpaste since we both swapped spit with the same two women.

There's a perfect expression in Spanish for Antonia's efforts to save herself: dar patadas de ahogado, literally the last kicks of a drowned person (a last ditch effort) On some level she knows she's going down, but thinks killing Verónica will fix things.

I was pretty sure Kelly was right. I knew I had seen the gag on Mati. So I went to the Telemundo site and took a look at the scene.

In episode 51 (4/5) at about 3:00, you can clearly see the purple bandana on Matilde's mouth (even if we didn't actually see Leo place it there.) Also, she tied her hands in such a way that she could drag her easily to the bathroom.

I think the idea was that she had to get Mati out of the way and shut her up fast. She didn't have another 30 seconds or more to untie her hands and retie them behind her back.

I suppose Leo, unlike Aurelio, was trained in non-lethal choking techniques.

Kelly and NovelaMaven, you're right! My apologies. I went to the Telemundo site, and there I saw Leo drag a mysteriously gagged Mati to the little room. Just how/when Leo gagged her isn't at all clear, but I can see the gag as she's dragging her. Wow, thought I, they must have added that in the version they posted on the Telemundo site, since I hadn't seen it on my tape. Oops! I went back, took another look at the tape, and sure enough, the same mysterious forces that added the gag on the Telemundo site's version had now added it to my tape! :-)

I just watched Friday’s episodes and I’m working my way back through the week. Hombre- Once again, many thanks for the wonderful recaps this week.

We know how the real AC ends up, and I’m starting to wonder what gets him there by the end. But my real question mark is what happens to Ximena (and kids), Turco, Marco, Leo and Eugenia. I really felt for Leo in that last scene, and Marco supported her in just the right way. I haven’t yet seen the scene when AC forces her to have sex with him, but it can’t be worse than those horrible encounters with Pablo Escobar that we have seen in her flashbacks. But that kind of work must eat at the soul. Blech! I hope she sees a therapist.

When Ximena and Alba find out that AC killed Don Cleto, there will be fireworks. It will be interesting to see how Beto reacts since he idolized his grandpa as much as his dad. I bet Mati will be the one to spill the beans to one of those three, just to stick it to AC and Ximena. Great scene between AC and Don Cleto. AC does not like being told the truth about himself. Hombre- AC’s hair was perfect when that scene began and he (thought he) was in control, and then a total mess later and stayed that way even after Chacorta and Mati got there.

Monica’s got her groove back. She looked great this episode, and seemed to genuinely enjoy herself with Cabo. Cabo was hilarious as he walked down the hallway with her, admiring her sashay and even copying it.

So the way this drug/cocaine business works is that the Colombians are the producers; the Mexicans are the middlemen/transporters; and the American’s are the buyers and distributers. It would seem like we should have been seeing more of the American mafia/drug lords, since I assume the Mexicans get paid by the American mafia to get the drugs into the U.S., just as the Colombians do. I wonder what kind of deal Topo is looking to make with Randy? They still need the Colombians to get the cocaine. Anybody else getting "playing-for-the-other-team" vibes from Jose Manuel (the colleague Iggy wants to set up with Karina)? I would be sad for all the tn women (he's SUCH a cutie!), but it would almost be preferable to seeing him fall for Karina (BLECK.).

Glad we finally got that gag matter straightened out!

As for Turco, I don't think we know yet whether Aurelio will tell him the truth about Cleto. I could be wrong, but I think they left off with Turco asking, what really happened with Don Cleto? I wouldn't be surprised if Aurelio lies, says, he just had a heart attack.

But we know SOMEONE who knows the truth, Miss Loose Lips Matilde. Just how long can she go without telling Ximena? Not long, if you ask me. Although, now that I think about it, she didn't actually SEE what happened, maybe only Chacorta knows.

I also think Danny will escape, thus frustrating Marco and Leo AGAIN.

But I could be wrong about every one of these conjectures. This show continues to throw us surprises. And that's good.

Maybe I should finish watching an episode before commenting, huh? Not so sure about Jose Manuel playing for the other team now. Seemed kind of interested in meeting up with Karina (nooooooo!) even though he had the perfect out... (no pun intended)

I could find no info on Amado Carrillo's wife except her name, Candaleria Leyva Cardenas. They had 5 children. Amado had 25 other children with 5 other women. Sounds like our Aurelio.

The Monica/ Aurelio confrontation is going to be very interesting. Watch out Monica.

I don't believe I have seen Alba anywhere but in the kitchen, except to visit Cleto in the hospital & the time she ran out with a shotgun.

Leo is just such a good cop that she got that gag on too quickly to notice. She certainly took care of Matilde and poor demasculated Betico. Next time Buddy. He can take out his frustration by beating on Ale who is a dead man anyway.

If Turco and Triste could get together, they could have the best cartel going. They do all the work anyway.

AnotherAmy: I see how you could pick up some uncertainty about Jose Manuel's "team". He is so nice, attractive, dresses well, etc, it is hard to believe he has never had a girlfriend, as he told Ignacia.
Is Neto the friend of Pedro from the construction site who slashed Tomas' tires? He is carrying a big torch for Mireya but she thinks of him as a brother. I was confused when he ran from the dinner table and there was talk about the chiles and his irritable bowel sydrome. What the heck? But maybe he was just upset after hearing about Mireya-Pedro's engagement?
OFF TOPIC--yes, I would buy any "male lip gloss" promoted by JC Canela--muy suaaaave....

Okay! So, Mati (who previously was bound and gagged in the closet!) really didn't hear anything about AC killing Cleto at the safe house. AC didn't fess up to the murder till after Mati was sent out of the house and AC and Chacorta talked. She did see AC standing over Cleto when she entered the house and walked over to look at the body. Her concern at the time was that she was right about Claudia/Leo and no one would listen to her. My guess is she'll think about Cleto's death over the weekend and wheedle the facts out of Chacorta. Then she'll spring it on Ximena when the timing suits her.

Hombre, I got the impression that the stare Aurelio gave Turco was meant to convey that Turco had to maintain the heart attack story. Aurelio told Chacorta to get Turco to take care of the body. Doesn't a victim of strangulation show signs - bruised neck, protruding tongue. I felt sure that, by telling Chacorta to have Turco take care of things he expected him to somehow erase evidences of how he died.

I like that even though she and Marco have broken up, Eugenia is still Marco's #1 fan. She bristled when Gen Dan blamed Marco for the Cleto bust going wrong by pointing out how many people it always takes for a victory, and how few for a loss. Whenever Marco makes a big bust, Gen Dan and all the other big wigs jump on the bandwagon and claim it was all their doing. But when something goes wrong, it was all Marco's fault and no one else's. And yet we know that when Marco gets a win, it's despite the big wigs working against him secretly, and when he has a loss, it's because of the dirty dealings of the big wigs.

Yes, I did too, just as he did when Isidro Robles died and Turco managed to neutralize two separate doctors at two medical facilities.

Thanks Deb for recap. I read it first before I watched the ep and it was extremely helpful. I'll volunteer to do Monday's and Wednesday's recaps so Novelera and Hombre can get a break.

Another amazing La Patrona ep. The court scenes have given the actors a chance to show their range. They are dramatic, but not too out-of-control. The actress who plays the judge does a good job of moderating the courtroom scenes and make them a bit believable. I loved the scene where she met Ricardo and Anibal's lawyer in the chambers and told them she won't allow the court to turn into a circus since this case is about Anibal kidnapping and trying to kill Coni, not any other crimes. It was really believable.

The Anibal court scene where he basically said he's been in love with Antonia since he bought her virginity, and that's why he's been her accomplice, had me in such shock. I cringed, just like the courtroom audience did. And pobrecito Alejandro hearing all his mother's sexual history in public.

I'm more and more agreeing with Alejandro that Veronica needs to be satisfied with Guerra and the lobos being in jail. She was too close to killing Chacon in Friday's ep; I loved that Gaston basically told her "You're so close to achieving justice...this (killing) isn't for you." She can't cross that line into murder or she'll be no better than Antonia. Veronica always has people around her who are willing to challenge, comfort, and call her out when necessary if she's losing her compass. Antonia never had that.

And why do I get the feeling Balmy is gonna take up Antonia's offer to run off with her since he's still in love with her.

I'm just loving the Ale/Veronica, Ale/Antonia scenes because he's pleading with the two important women in his life, begging them to calm down, think reasonably, and their refusal, thus far, leave him going "Why are y'all so hard-headed???!!!"

I have to come out of Lukersville first to thank Hombre for the great recap of the last --and great-- episode of Cielos.

The scene between Cleto and Aurelio had elements of a Greek tragedy. Cleto was forcing Aurelio to look him in the eye, and man up with the truth. He was taking a big risk because if he couldn't nger Aurelio into doing the "honorable" thing, it was obvious he'd be a dead man. But his sense of values and courage really won out, even if he lost his life. Aureli9o just lost it --and himself-- which is what all his sobbing after he did the deed was about.

I think Charcorta not only was horrified that Aurelio could kill Cleto with his bare hands, but I also got the sense that he thought that if AC could lose it and kill cleto, he could do the same thing to him. It was very good acting on charcorta's part.

Finally, I think that Ximena, even without knowing that AC killed her father, has finally fallen out of love with hijm. She told Turco that she didn'tcare whether he went with them or not. And for the first time that I can remember she called turco by his real name,Ali.I'm afraid their feelings for one anothr will be in vain, and cause Aurelio to get into another jealous, murderous rage. (He certainly has issues about being betrayed, when it is his modus operandi, and he thinks nothing of doing it to anyone. Is his mother next??'
 

Sorry about all the typos.It should have said that if Cleto couldn't "anger" Aurelio. That's what happens when you stay in Lurkersville too long.

NJ Sue, my fear is that the next victim of Aurelio's wrath and paranoia may be Turco. (Of course, I've been wrong about so many things that my naming Turco may guarantee his safety! ¡Ojalá!)

I was being sarcastic when I asked about his mothr being next. I thinik she is probably the only one who is safe...and his kids.

Agree with you about Ximena - she is so over AC, and you know someone (?Mati) will tell here about Cleto's death.

In this TN I don't think anyone is safe - even the kids could be killed. It was sheer luck that they weren't blown up in the US. I wouldn't put it past the writers to have Alba killed off either.

Jaunita - I'm guessing either Turco or Danny is next, but who knows - this story has more twists and turns than a country road!
