Amores Verdaderos #171 Wed 7/10/13 A little more than kin, and less than kind.*

(*From Hamlet, Act 1, Scene II)

At the House of Snails ...
Vikki and Arriaga can hardly contain their joy.  They are going to be parents!  He shows her his prize -- the CD autographed for them by Spanish singer Malú. They play the music; they dance vertically; they dance horizontally.  Ah love.  Morning finds them in bed, gazing adoringly at one another.  Arriaga gets up and prepares breakfast.  Vikki has to go to the Balvanera house to check on things and most importantly, to tell Adriana about her pregnancy.  Ahem.  Er.  He tells Vikki he is working as Adriana's bodyguard.

Roy's coach, Omar, warns him that if he is going to jump-start his tennis career, he has to be ready to give 100%.  Roy says he is serious and will do what it takes.

Lili walks into Adriana's room unannounced and catches her staring at her reflection in the mirror, her belly made large by a pillow stuffed under her shirt.  Adriana is too happy to remind Lili to knock (but we're not too busy to notice the liberties Miss Thing is taking).  "I'm pregnant", blurts out Adriana.  She says it's Joan's child but since he is going back to Spain, she has no intention of telling him about it.  Even though her baby won't have a father, he'll be surrounded by love.

Arriaga admits that the Lili situation is no better than it was before Victoria left.  But he has made it clear:
Lo nuestro no tiene vuelta de hoja.
(There's no stopping our love. [lit. Ours has no turning back of the page.])

When Vikki hears about the attack on Nelson, she rushes off to call Nikki.  Arriaga takes advantage of the moment to phone Malú.  After all, he did promise he'd let her know when he and his true love were reunited.  But he has a favor to ask… It's for tonight…

Malú is happy to oblige.  After all, she owes him for saving her from the crush of her crazy adoring fans.

Nikki and Guzmán have settled into domestic bliss.  For now.  They chat as they dry the dishes.  Nikki is meeting her mom at the hospital.  She hopes Vikki doesn't bump into Kendra.  Frankie will be going job-hunting.  They are looking forward to Betty's party tonight.

Nelson is looking sharp today in his satin jammies.  He tells Vikki he signed the divorce papers the day before.  He's sorry he was a jackass to her and he'll be a better father to Mia than he was to Nikki. He's happy that his relationship with Nikki has improved -- well except for the pesky Kendra problem.  Vikki listens graciously and wishes him the best.  He admits that he understands why she fell in love with a no-name low-class tipo like Arriaga -- he gave her affection.  And respect.

Arriaga arrives in the Balvanera kitchen with a huge grin on his face.  Since Adriana is still upstairs, he wonders if he can talk to Lili.

Lili is breakfasting with Candelaria and Aníbal at the grown-ups' table.  Aníbal has a surprise for his favorite granddaughter.  He hands over the deed to the greenhouse plus a checkbook, and a fistful of credit cards.  Lili jumps up and kisses the Old Coot.
[Folks on the Patio marvel at how well Lili has been trained.  César Millan would be impressed.]
Cande has some reservations about Lili managing all that money.

Arriaga comes in just in time to catch this scene and is clearly disgusted.  How can Lili let herself be manipulated by that man and his gifts?  His question is met by three silent stony stares.

Unfortunately, Vikki does cross paths with Kendra in the hospital.  She tells the Zorrita to worry about Nelson and Mia and forget about her and Nikki.  But Kendra won't let her get away so easily.  She grabs her arm, smiles meanly and says Vikki should be grateful she took Nelson off her hands.  Now she can let loose with Arriaga.  She always knew Vikki had the hots for him. Vikki's response shows us she's no pushover:
No te metas conmigo porque me voy a olvidar que soy una dama y voy a borrar a golpes esa estúpida sonrisa.
(Don't mess with me because I'm going to forget I'm a lady and I'm going to smack that stupid smile off your face.)
[Cheers and whistles from the Patio!]

Victoria makes a dignified exit leaving Kendra choking on her bile:
Te odio, maldita, te odio.  Ahora andas con un tipo fuerte y viril como Arriaga y a mí me dejas a un Nelson arruinado y lisiado y pusilánime.
(I hate you, damn you, I hate you.  Now you're with a strong, manly guy like Arriaga and you leave me a wrecked, crippled, weakling of a Nelson.)

Back at the breakfast table, Lili breaks the silence (though many of us wish she hadn't.)  She repeats the drivel that Aníbal is only giving her what her mother had coming.  Arriaga loses his cool and screams:
DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT MAN IS ONLY TRYING TO BUY YOU?

Then he turns accusingly to Candelaria:  When did you become his accomplice?

And finally he addesses Aníbal:  Stop ensnaring my daughter with your stupid gifts and the ideas you put in her head!

Lili stands at Aníbal's side and he strokes her hand reassuringly as he speaks.  He is giving her what she deserves -- everything she wants!

Now Lili says with aching cruelty:
Papá, si cada vez que me veas con mi abuelo te vas a armar un escándalo, es mejor que ya no aparezcas por aquí.
(Dad, if every time you see me with my grandfather, you're going to make a scene, it's better if you don't come around here.)
[The Patio is in an uproar.  "Did you hear her?" ayayayayay.  Clouds of nerfazos fly towards the flat screens.]

José Ángel asks softly:  Are you kicking me out?

Lili looks uneasy and says she isn't. But things have changed. And she has no intention of giving up what her grandfather wants to give her.

Aníbal announces with pride that now she is showing him she is worthy to be his granddaughter.  He kisses her hand.
[And so it turns out she is capable of sacrificing pawns to win the game.]

"And me," responds Arriaga.  "I'm not sure you're my daughter."

As Arriaga leaves the room, Lili seems to come out of her Anibalic trance.  She calls after her father and tries to follow him out of the room.  But Cande stops her and follows Arriaga herself.

As Polita and Jean Marie stare, Arriaga angrily repeats his accusation: Aníbal is only interested in taking his child away from him.  Cande tries to justify Aníbal but Arriaga is having none of it.
[Jean Marie pulls Polita out of the kitchen.  And none too soon.  You can tell she's ready to get the popcorn and settle in.]

Even before Candy met Ani, she wasn't exactly a candidate for a MacArthur Grant.  But it is clear to Arriaga that Aníbal has damaged Cande's already tiny brain and now the two of them are trying to make him lose his daughter.  This offends Cande so much that she switches to her deep androgynous voice and stands as tall as a 4'2" person can stand.  She insists that Aníbal's "generosity" took her by surprise.  Arriaga doesn't believe a word.

Upstairs, Tomasina lets Adriana know that Arriaga has arrived.  Adriana isn't going out so he can use the time to run his own errands.

Polita arrives with a huge floral arrangement from Joan.  He includes a note:
By the time you read this, I'll be on my way to Spain, taking your memory with me and hoping our paths cross again.  Kisses, Joan.
Adri is tempted to call him and tell him about the baby but she knows the news wouldn't make him happy.  It was so different when she told Vicente she was pregnant with Lucía …
[Perhaps because she told Vicente.]

Hablando del Rey de Roma
Dr. Vicente Celorio tells Nelson Brizz he has sent his file to the therapist in Houston.  He reminds him that the success of the therapy will depend on his persistence and his attitude.  Nelson vows to give it his all.  And Kendra vows to devote herself body and soul to him.  Celorio is called to an emergency before anyone can give serious consideration to whether Kendra has a soul and if so, in what state of putrefaction it must exist at this point in the story.

Kendra has hired a nurse for the baby, has her eye on a penthouse close to the rehab center and plans to hire servants when they get to Houston.  No need to pinch pesos -- it's all on Aníbal's dime.

Nelson seems a bit detached.  He merely mutters: "Some day that bastard is going to pay for what he did."

Cande reproaches Aníbal for being too generous with Lili.  He swats at her objections like so many slow-moving moths.  Splat.  As for what José Ángel thinks -- who cares?

Lili interviews four disappointing Roy wannabe's.  No one can compare with the Boy.  And the greenhouse seems so empty without him.

The matrimonio Pavía is elated to hear that Roy is going back to his tennis career.  At first they are thrilled to learn there is no future with Arriaga's daughter.  But when Roy tells them that Lili is actually a long-lost Balvanera, Milton urges his son to reconsider.  "Forget it," Roy tells his father.

The reunion of Vikki and Adri is punctuated by great girlish whoops of joy.  I'm having a baby!  Squeeee!  Me too!  Squeeee!

Victoria hasn't done a pregnancy test.  She just KNOWS she's pregnant.
[If it weren't for the snails, we'd be worried.  But the Patio crowd is NOT going down that path.  No.]

Vikki has an appointment with her gynecologist for the next day and she's sure her suspicions will be confirmed.  The sisters are thrilled with the idea of having children who will grow up together, more like siblings than cousins.  Nikki doesn't know about Vikki's pregnancy yet but she's sure to be happy at the news.
[Neither sister speculates about Lili's likely reaction.]

Party preparations are underway at Paula's apartment.  Felipe picks up Paula, as arranged, and soon Nikki -- wearing joke-store glasses worthy of Espanto -- shows up to help Betty and Guillo get things ready.

Arriaga has picked up his settlement check at the office of Lic. Restrepo. He explains to Vikki that it is reimbursement for the mortgage money that was stolen plus interest and compensation for damages.  He wants her to take it as payment for the amount he still owes her.  She reluctantly agrees to accept it.  A moment later, he wants to use the money to buy land (he'll complete his agronomy degree in six months) and also to pay the baby's expenses.  [So maybe it is a whole lot of moolah.]  Can he come to Vikki's doctor appointment tomorrow?  Oh yes!  Arriaga wants to run out and buy a stroller.  Now?  Yes, now!

Adriana SCREAMS at Aníbal that she knows what he was doing in LA -- he went there to buy off the guys who were investing in Carlos's movie!
[Well duh!  How did I miss that?]
The Old Coot doesn't try to deny it.  He is positively smug.  He wasn't going to let a González into his family!  His damn blood is never going to sully the blue blood of the Balvanera family.

[For the second time tonight, the images on the flat screens around the Patio are nearly obscured by the flying clouds of nerfazos.]

"You're wrong," begins Adriana.

[Can't she hear us screaming on the Patio:  STOP!  DON'T SAY ANOTHER WORD!  I guess not.]

She continues: "I'm pregnant with Carlos González's child."

Aníbal can't believe his ears.  She's not going to dirty his apellido by bringing that bastardo  into the world!  Carlos was just using her to glom on to his family.  She has to get rid of that child while she still can!

Adriana is appalled.  "You're a murderer," she cries as she smacks his chest and grabs at his lapels. "How dare you tell me to interrupt my pregnancy!"

Aníbal grabs her wrists and snarls:  "At fifteen you made a mistake that blighted your life.  Don't make the same mistake again."

"What ruined my life was you taking my baby from me.  But things are different now.  I swear I'll find Lucía!  And I'm going to have this baby!"

Later Adriana prays to the Virgen to protect her baby from Aníbal.
[You're not making it easy for her, Adri.  That's all I'm saying.]

Aníbal wants to take his best girls out to dinner.  While Cande is changing out of her nurse's uniform, he complains to Lili that the people he cared about have disappointed him -- Adriana, Nikki, Victoria.  He feels they are so distant.  Now she and Cande are his real family.  Lili smiles fatuously.  Aníbal hopes she won't let him down the way the others have.  Oh no, she won't.  They hug and he strokes her hair.  "I know," he says.  "I know."

[Deploy the Patio Barf Bags.  Now!]

Felipe brings Paula back to the darkened apartment.  She switches on the light.  Surprise!  Bea, Gilda, Nikki, Imperia, Frankie, Guillo and Santino stand around grinning.  What are we celebrating?  Bea explains that they are making up for all the Mother's Day celebrations they missed.  [hmm.  Let's hope Paula doesn't think about that one too much.]
"Do they know?" whispers Paula to Gilda.  "Nah."

Avances:
Lili finds out that Vikki is pregnant.
Kendra and Espanto are poised to strike again.

NovelaMaven- Brilliant recap. Loved all your asides and advice to the characters. I'm off to spend the day on a college campus with 100 17 year olds- mini Lilis. Fortunately, I think the biggest conflict I'll have with any of them will be about our fingertips rule for shorts, and not about falling under the influence of their evil grandfathers. ;-)

Lili is in for some major disillusionment about her loving gramps, sooner rather than later. The same way Nikki became disillusioned with him once she became a direct victim of his wrath. Lili-Lucia has already been a direct victim of his wrath. She just doesn't know it yet. Boy, things are going to get REALLY ugly when she finds out what he grandpa did to her as a baby, and how her grandma is covering it up. I think that will be what finally makes her come around with JA.

I actually don't have much of a problem with Anibal deeding her the nursery and a bank account to support it. That's what he got it for in the first place. And Lili has put her sweat equity into making the place a success. Very impressive for an 18 year old, actually. JA actually doubted her ability to manage the place when Anibal made her the manager and said he trusted her abilities (since she's a Balvanera). Anibal was right-- Lili has a head for business, and JA was wrong-- he assumed she was too young to take on such responsibility.

I was yelling at my tv too for Adri not to tell Anibal she's pregnant. But she couldn't resist. This is Adri, after all. Now she better pray, AND go into hiding until the baby is born. Hey, maybe she should head to Spain and actually tell Carlos he's going to be a dad.

Pure joy...No matter how good the episode, you continually find a way to elevate the recap to an even higher level. NovelaMaven, I'm in awe...

"but we're not too busy to notice the liberties Miss Thing is taking)", "Folks on the Patio marvel at how well Lili has been trained" and "...before anyone can give serious consideration to whether Kendra has a soul and if so, in what state of putrefaction it must exist at this point in the story" were marvelous. What an extraordinary recap.

Does anyone else feel JA and Victoria's scenes are being unduly compressed?? The writers seem to feel they have weathered the storm and their story arc (with the pregnancy revelation) will receive minimum air time. These brief glimpses (looking edited) are such a disappointment. Sweet but too short. I did love JA's unrestrained joy and their glow of supreme happiness.

And Lili...if only she had she acted sweetly and graciously instead of imperiously entitled when Anibal bestowed his gifts. Her behavior to JA was unforgiveable. And Cande belongs with Anibal in whatever hellish end he receives.

Wonderful to see the two sisters sharing their happy news. But, I'm also surprised (and disappointed) that Adri didn't tell Carlos - for someone who prizes truth above all else, her silence is deafening.

I'm still holding out hope (diminished) that Paula will survive.

Vivi, good luck today! Loved "Lili-Lucia has already been a direct victim of his wrath. She just doesn't know it yet". Always the voice of reason and stated perfectly.

NovelaMaven: thank you for making my day a happy one...

Diana

NovelaMaven - Great recap, snark, and love the quote from Hamlet. Thank you!

WHAT IF … Adriana is not really pregnant? Vikki has not done a stick test and we didn't see Adri do one, either. Adri went by her calendar, but she could be off-cycle for any reason. We KNOW Vikki will be pregnant because the snails told us.

Nonetheless, I loved it when Adri told Anibal she's pregnant with Joan/Carlos' child.

The Farewell … er … Feliz Día party for Paula was very nice. What a sweet thing for them to do for her.

Wasn't the look on Cande's face priceless, when JA told Lili that he's not sure she is his daughter?!?!

* * * grammar geek corner (a/k/a better living thru learning a second language) * * *
1. If nothing else, AV has taught me that where, in English, we refer to our relationship as "us" or "we", in Spanish it is "lo nuestro" (that which is ours?) instead of 'nosotros.'
2. And the word 'lobuki' is added to the vocabulary, along with equis, captas, and netas.

Diana - Yes, I agree with you in thinking the JA & Vikki scenes have been compressed, or at least abridged.

Vivi in DC - Good luck with the teenagers. What?!? No Daisy Dukes allowed on campus? Or doily vests? Elisa Castañon Bouvier would be disappointed. And sent to detention.

Great recap.
Still traveling, back and forth from San Francisco to Portland, Oregon, cleaning out mom's house (she is in assisted living now). These recaps are my lifeline right now. Thank you all so much.

Adri did do a stick test. It was a short scene on Tuesday or briefly shown last night. She was walking out of her bathroom and clutching a pillow. There was a camera shot of the stick.

Lili is starting to realize that Roy was a good worker, as she tries to replace him - too little too late. Can you believe his parents? They must have gone to the Anibal Balvanera school of wealth, entitlement and arrogance. Jeeze. Run Roy, Run.

Miss Lili is in for a world full of hurt: Anyball's manipulations, finding out who her real mother is, maybe growing up a little????

It will be interesting to see how the writers bring Adri and Vicente together.....I suspect at the hospital (no spoiler.

What can be said of Anyballs and his ridiculously macho attitude toward his daughters, grand daughters and Cande? He treats them as property and thinks he knows what's best for them. Wrong! Could he be any more of a Neanderthal??? Notice he has no male descendants?

One question: What day is the Gran Final? I noticed it was 3 hours in Mexico. Is Uni going to do a 3 hour Gran Final or 2 hour? Need to make sure I am not driving back to SF.....must see the final resolution of AV.

NovelaMaven:

Thanks so much for this superb, excellent recap!

I want to smack Lili with a nerf bat and tell her to wake up already! I agree with what Vivi said about that Greenhouse. Lili has been working her butt off to make it a success, but her entitled attitude is really starting to bug me, and her using the excuse that she is getting what her Mama Cris would have gotten is just crap. Lili wants this for herself. I don't even know if Cris would have been like Lili. Cris I think would have been different. I am so disappointed Lili is treating her Dad like yesterday's news. She should see by now that Papa Angel is not giving up Ms Vikki. It is heartbreaking the way she treats him, almost like a servant, while Cande, especially, looks on and does nothing! Cande is dead to me until she wakes the heck up!

That was a very nice party for the Pau. I am glad everyone got together for that. I had to laugh at Nikki and those funny nose/glasses, lol. Could you have envisioned Nikki like this a month ago? I'm liking that Nikki is getting close to Frankie's family.

Diana:

I agree with you about JA/Ms Vikki's scenes. They do seem unduly compressed and edited. I wonder if the orginal broadcast had more of the er, deed being done?

Doris:

Adri did do a stick test, that's how she found out she was preggers for sure. Ms Vikki hasn't done a test and I'm glad she is going to her Doc to find out for sure. I loved Angel's reaction, so enthusiastic.

I am liking the fact that Adri and Ms Vikki are preggers at the same time. This way they have each others back. I was worried when Adri told Anyballs she was preggers, cause we just know he will do something to try to wreck this pregnancy. Wait till he finds out Ms Vikki is preggers too. Maybe he will have a huge infarto!

Who knew that Ms Vikki and FF would bury the hatchet? That was interesting that they were able to have a civil convo and not yell and scream and hurl accusations. I did, however, love Ms Vikki giving it to the Ho. Good for her.

I thought it was funny when Roy was with his 'rents and told him about Lili and that she is a Balvanera. Milton of course was ok with that, Doris, meh, not so much and the arguing, lol. I am glad, in a way, that Roy is going back to his tennis career and away from them. It's interesting that Lili is missing him, just a smidge.

I don't like those avances, what are Kendho and Espanto up to now???

SFChicaBonita:

I don't know if Uni is going to show a three hour finale. They have never done that before. I wonder if they will split it up over three days, cause they don't preempt any TN's anymore. I think we should know about the last epi for this TN sometime in the coming week. We still haven't gotten a date on when La Tempestad starts.

Madelaine,
Thanks.
I'll just have to "stay tuned". I didn't set my dvr for the final before I left because there wasn't a date........AV takes priority.

SF Chica Bonita and Madelaine: Yes, aren't Roy's parents the pitts? Greedy, materialistic and everything else you both noted. Blech.

I am kind of hoping Roy strikes out and resumes his tennis career with better success and leaves them (and Lili) behind. Unless Lili comes to her senses quickly, she doesn't deserve him (can't believe I actually said that).

Diana

SFChicaBonita….
- Cleaning out a parent's home isn't easy. (((Hugs))) I've had lots of friends go thru that and dread the day our turn arrives.
- Thanks for clueing me in on Adri's stick test. How I miss this stuff is beyond me. Well… AV does not get my undivided attention so there we have it. Or maybe I don't stop FFWD-> thru the filler stuff (sobbing, weeping, etc.) quickly enough. Trigger finger is slow.
- Good point that Anibal has no male descendents, too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AV is winding down and feels like the approach of graduation day; end of the school year; final days/hours of vacation. I am getting weepy already.
I will miss this fun ride on the AV bus and sitting on the POLE with all y'all. (that is the plural Southern form of 'ustedes' for you grammar nerds. LOL) I won't be watching Tempestad. After TdA, I swore off Mejía and his circos. No puedo más.
I'm going to give Marido de Alquiler a try on T'mundo. Don't even know if I'll like it and stick with it. No daily recaps (wah!) so I'll never know if someone did a pregnancy test or who owns which mansion, or what people really said when I don't understand. LOL ( I don't like CCs because I end up reading instead of listening.)
Do we think Uni would run a 3-hour finale? Only if it works with their scheduling.
Doris,
Thanks for the kind words.
I don't think Uni will air a 3 hour Gran Final. Their usual practice of condensing appears to be in evidence as we wind down to the final moments on AV. Too bad. It seems like they back themselves into a corner toward the end of each TN. Poor planning.
I don't plan to watch "Tempestbad" except when I am forced to (mom's house doesn't have cable -no Telemundo) I taped the first epi of Marido de Alquiler. I have always been a Juan Soler fan so I will be interested to see how he does.
NM thanks so much for your wonderful recap. You gave me quite a few laughs with your zingers particularly this one: "Folks on the Patio marvel at how well Lili has been trained. César Millan would be impressed."
And gringo don't feel I dislike Lily but you will admit she is going through a very bad phase right now.
Vivi - have fun with the teens (LOL on the fingertip rule for shorts) and thanks for your thoughts on the greenhouse, ITA.
Diana - I'm with you on hoping Paula survives and your thoughts on the compressed scenes b/t JA and Vicki.
Doris - yes, Cande's face was priceless when JA asked about Lily's paternity. As NM said she was never a candidate for a MacArthur Grant, she allows Gramps to manipulate her as if she is a child. And the fact she won't come clean about Lily is disgusting.
SFChicaBonita - Best wishes as you move your mother's things. Make sure you give yourself some downtime, aside from AV viewings ;) And like you I am anxiously anticipating how Adriana and Doc Hottie will meet. Roy's parents are bad younger versions of Gramps.
Mads - I would like to think that Lily's entitled behavior is more of a combination of her losing Frankie to the other entitled princess and her current hatred of that princess. She's easy pickings for a manipulator like Gramps and money/things can sometimes temporarily make even the best of us loose sight of that.
Thanks NovelaMaven. This is s well done, super-hilarious, with a touch of NM wisdom:
" It was so different when she told Vicente she was pregnant with Lucía …
[Perhaps because she told Vicente.]"
Excellent.
My favorite scene last night was Roy and his parents...especially his dad... "Well, since you put it that way..."
Carlos
NovelaMaven – Sparkling recap from start to finish. Thanks for the translations, especially JA’s “Lo nuestro no tiene vuelta de hoja." I too loved "...Perhaps because she told Vicente." My personal favorite:
“This offends Cande so much that she switches to her deep androgynous voice and stands as tall as a 4'2" person can stand.”
AnyBalls knows he's the devil and enjoys his manipulations, but what gets me is Cande goes along with it and still believes she's a good woman.
Still at Lili's table. Vivi, ITA on her biz skills and work ethic. Poor thing wanted to rush to her pop after her harsh words, but grandma stopped her.
Surprised to hear they may be cutting some of the Vickie-Angel love scenes. That was a pretty good, slow kiss after the baby news. Also, the other TNs I’ve seen usually repeat a hefty part of the ending from the previous episode, but AV hasn’t been doing that for awhile. I figured that was because they had a lot to fit in.
So now Adri has stuck a bull’s eye on herself? I sure hope she tells Carlos about the baby even more now. I think Carlos would realize the danger she’s in.
Thanks, NOvelamaven.
I really do not know why they brought the lovely Marcelo on if he is not going to reunite with Adri, but I cannot see that happening now that she is pregnant by Joan. Boo.
SFchicabonita.Good luck with your task. Hub and I went through that same experience a few years ago with his mother....never easy, but at least she had sold her home years before and was in an apartment. My sister and I have still not cleared out our parents' farmhouse. I think we are sort trying to "keep" them here . No one lives in the farmhouse, but my sister stays there in the summer when she visits me.We rent the land to three different neighbors who farm it and run a roadside stand. It will be very hard on us if we have to sell the farm.one day..
Vivi...I have spent a lot if time with many Nikkis and Lili's. Some keep you young and hopeful...some don't. Are you participating in a summer shadowingp program? if so, I cannot think of a better role model than you.
Well, I am off to tutor my student from Brazil, so I'll check in later for new comments.
I watched the last two episodes at univision's AV site to compare them to the Mexican version (especially the Vic/JA scenes), and they looked the same for me. I don't think Uni cut anything.
Great, great recap!!!
The difference with Joan/Carlos and Vicente is that Vicente wanted to marry Adriana, while Joan/Carlos says he doesn't.
Jose Angel is always going to view Liliana as a child, no matter how good she is at running a business.
Liliana is going to have to grow up a LOT. There is hope - look at Nikki!
I hope Anibal doesn't have an infarto. That is WAY too easy.
Do you think that Espanto and Kendra will cause something to happen that will involve the hospital, yet again, and Adriana will actually meet up with Vicente?
Loved the sisters gushing over their respective pregnancies!
Loved the party for Paula, as well, and thought it was so nice that Salsero brought his godmother!
Thanks Susanlynn.....making a lot of progress. It is still a chore.
NovelaMv--So glad you included us, the Patio People, in your most excellent coverage of the goings on around the Balvaneras. There's nothing to add, nothing to comment on--other than, Brava and thanks again for letting us participate.
Thank you for the recap, NovelaMaven! :)
"Even before Candy met Ani, she wasn't exactly a candidate for a MacArthur Grant. But it is clear to Arriaga that Aníbal has damaged Cande's already tiny brain"
"It was so different when she told Vicente she was pregnant with Lucía …
[Perhaps because she told Vicente.]"
" The reunion of Vikki and Adri is punctuated by great girlish whoops of joy. I'm having a baby! Squeeee! Me too! Squeeee!"
" [For the second time tonight, the images on the flat screens around the Patio are nearly obscured by the flying clouds of nerfazos.]"
Hehehe. :D
My prediction: Univision will spread the 3 hour finale over three days with the final episode shown on July 26, a Friday.
Just had to help out....
doris--To see Adri and "the Stick" go to Tuesday's screen shot by Elvira!!! It's there, in color, no less.
Fabuloso, NovelaMaven. Perfect title, too.
I think Milton should just marry Anyballs himself and leave out the middlemen and middlewomen. Could that guy possibly be more tacky? And Anyballs might be the first character to ever die of a Nerfazo hailstorm.
Silly naive Lili is pumped so full of Anibalic steroids that she's impervious to reason. Sure, Lili, they make you feel powerful for awhile, but the damage is being done. Soon enough you'll find out that Grumps's support only lasts as long as you're dancing to the screechy tune he's playing.
Are we sure the snails can tell the difference between pregnancy and menopausal symptoms? I'm a little concerned that Vicky announced it as a sure thing before getting a test.
Adri made a huge tactical error. I'm not sure following Yawn to Spain will be enough...too easy to find her there. She needs to get a ton of cash and hide out someplace in Asia where Anybags won't think to look for her. If nothing else, she needs to quit living in Daddy-o's house, especially upstairs!
Great recap NovelaMaven!
I hope you have a great day with the mini Lilis Vivi!
Poor Joan, Vicente showed up for a couple of scenes and he got all the patio on his table! At least he'll always have that baby on his side, if Anibal allows him to exist.
Jarocha
SFChicaBonita, Source of this is unknown but I wrote down that AV finale is Wed, July 24. If it's 3 hours, I think Anon 2:17 prediction of a Friday 7/26 ending makes sense. Good luck!
Doris, re Marido, the Caray Telemundo page has a summary of the Marido characters posted by AdrianaNoel. And, if you're confused about something you can always ask a Q over there.
NovelaMaven, clever as always. Thanks.
Anita - >>>embarrassed<<< I did not realize that was a pregnancy stick Adri was holding in that screen cap. I thought they turn pink? What do I know? Back in my day, a rabbit died.
Well, I know a rabbit really did not die... but it was the Dark Ages...
Thank you NovelaMaven---A great recap. Several great lines---examples #1 They dance vertically;
they dance horizontally. Ah love.
#2 Nikki--wearing joke store glasses worthy of Espanto, had me laughing.
Aribeth---I remember "Wise Child"
but that was a long time ago. I believe that since then, many have abandoned her.
Lili Little Orchid has been the talk of the patio lately. The writers have really put this young lady through the wringer. She grew up in the country, happy but not with many extravagances. Her house burns down and she gets a job at a big mansion and becomes Little Flower Girl just to be dragged through the dirt and stepped on by nikki who never liked her. Later she looses the one that she fell in love with and then looses a second time both to Nikki. Next her mother dies and she sees her father taking up with the woman that her mother despised/was jealous of. After all of that, she finds out that she is a Balvanera and becomes the interest of her rich grandfather. To top it all off, her grandma on her side of the family is going to marry Anibal who has been so nice to her. As Julia said---Lili has been pumped full of Anibalic steroids. Now patio peeps, put yourself in her shoes. Wouldn't you be overjoyed with the BIG turnaround in your life, if you were her?
People keep saying Lili "lost" Frankie to Nikki. NO, SHE DID NOT. She NEVER had him in the first place. You can't lose what you don't have. She didn't even lose ROY to Nikki. She never had him, either. At least, not until after the wedding, when he realized how he felt about her. When Lili met Roy, he was Nikki's fiance who just wanted to "revolcarse" with Lili. Until that darn cupid shot an arrow with her name (Lili's) on it straight into his heart.
Hmmm, Nikki needs a job and Lili has an opening but can't find anyone with Roy's pizazz.
Gringo:
I understand her situation and her reasons, and probably most of us would be just as confused, lost and angry if we were in her 18 years old half-orphan Balvanera shoes. But Lili 2.0 is still very annoying.
"I believe that since then, many have abandoned her."
Usually that's a temporal thing in telenovelas.
At the beginning everyone despised Salsero. Now he's a fan favourite.
At the beginning most people found Bratty Nikki very unlikeable. Up until her divorce and her attempts to become a responsible adult she was bashed for her behaviour on a daily basis. But she became a fan favourite, too.
For a very long time everyone hated Roy. Now Patio Peeps are warming up to him.
These last weeks proved that Lili isn't just a perfect little Disney Princess (which image was very clichéd and unrealistic) but a human being who's capable of feeling pride, resentment, obsession, who can lie, who can be blinded by the money of an olympic winner manipulator. She's still a good, hard-working, intelligent girl who doesn't like to hurt people (she even wanted to run after Arriaga in this episode). All these things gave her more layers.
Yes, the poor kid is on Aníbalic Steroids, and the adults around he also committed many ugly mistakes, but we like to roll our eyes at her self-righteous, stupid statements and her stubbornness. Because it's fun. :)
(By the way, I remember a few weeks ago the discussion was about that she tried to make her father to respect the memory of her mother.
My question is: was she, Lili respecting the memory of her mother the same way she expected from Arriaga? She knew perfectly how much Cristina disapproved her friendship with Adriana, because she hated the crazy things that always happened to Lili when she was around Adri, and she was very jealous at them. Yet she had no problem with maintaining a very strong friendship with her after Cris's death, and she wanted Adriana and Angel to become a couple.)
"Hmmm, Nikki needs a job and Lili has an opening but can't find anyone with Roy's pizazz."
Niecie --- you are brilliant! Nikki would be perfect at the job, well, except for the heavy lifting, but as a designer and sales person she would be perfect.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words!
The fact that we are seeing characters like Roy and Liliana differently these days is a tribute to the skill of the writers and the actors. Bien hecho.
Of course Aníbel is on a downward spiral as far as the Patio is concerned. After his blood-curdling declarations last night, not only did his table empty out, the Patio workers took it apart and used the wood for kindling. (There was a chill in the air.)
Note: Anibalic Steroids are no longer available in the Meta*Mart Pharmacy. They have been shown to be highly toxic and are of limited therapeutic value.
Nikki planting roses and watering
marigolds. What???
Concerning Vikki's run in with the ho, evidently miss VIk is familiar with that turn of phrase Eli shared with us in the recap of CI..."s*** just got real." go Miss Vikki. !!!!!
I agree with everything gringo said about Lili. Very well put. I don't like the way she is acting either but I think I do understand where it's coming from.
In response to Anon 3:47, you are right that Nikki didn't technically take Guzman or Roy from Lili but to an 18 year old girl, who's never had a boyfriend and who's self esteem is fragile it's easy to feel as though Nikki took them from her. I can imagine how awful it must have felt for Lili to see Guzman (the guy she liked but was getting over) begging Nikki not to get married, while Nikki married Roy (the guy she was starting to like).
Clara,
Thank you for the aprox dates....
I'm so behind on commenting on the recaps! I wanted to thank you for your awesome recap, NM, you always hit it out of the part. Brilliant!
And Gramps is doomed, I tell you, doomed! His journey into douchatude is going at breakneck speed.
Susanlynn- Thanks, amiga. It was a busy, but fun day. During the summer, my organization takes low income teens to a college campus, where they stay for four days and go through a sort of college application/preparation boot camp. It's intense and fun and we run a new workshop each week for a month with a different group of students.
Anyone else notice that JA plucked off his wedding band and threw it in a bowl as soon as he got the Vicky pregnancy news? I'm surprised they didn't show Lili noticing that he's now ringless.
I saw it.
Hi everyone, I'm back from my short vacay from Vegas and so I am running behind my dvr tapings. Wow, so many things have happened.
Now get down to bidness. About Nikki and Lili. I have always looked at them and sometimes I do compare them to my 2 daughters who have sibling rivalries. They bicker a lot but they do love each other to death.
What a great contrast of father/daughter relationship these past three days that were shown to us by Nikki/Nelson and Lili/Arriaga.
Here was Nikki, spoiled and grew up always in want of her father's attention and was quite abandoned by Nelson due to his being submerged in his empire/business and there was Lili. loving and well loved by her father and were inseparable during her formative years. Arriaga was not an unfit father as Nelson was.
If these were the cases between these two, how come, Nikki so lovingly ran to her father when he called from the hospital and so lovingly forgave him of his shortcomings whereas, the unacceptable behavior of Lili towards her father. It seems out of character of this once sweet and loving kid. Where is the saying. "You reap what you sow" ?Arriaga and Christina only gave her loving care and good manners and moral values. Why can't she forgive her father? There was nobody poisoning and feeding evil ideas in her mind(Unlike Nikki}. So it's her own decision to be as unforgiving and hard to her father.
.
