Amores Verdaderos #176 Wed 7/17/13 It is a wise father that knows his own child.*

*The Merchant of Venice, Act 2, Scene II.

The mood on the Patio is surly.  At each table stands a fully loaded lanchanerfazos.  Security has already confiscated dozens of overripe tomatoes and warned that a single tomatazo will be grounds for expulsion.  Will Ratiana really hold Frankie to his promise?

Before leaving the hospital for the night, Adriana stops to look in on the young woman who is fighting for her life.  Now she knows she is looking at her own Lucía.  Adriana intends to keep her promise to Candelaria.  No one else can know the truth right now, not even LuciLili herself.

Yawn Carlos is out of sorts.  He came back to Mexico for Adriana and now finds she is carrying another man's child.

Adriana isn't going to be pregnant much longer it seems.  She is back in her apartment when, after some overwhelming  contractions, her water breaks.  What is she going to do?  She is only seven months along.  Does she call her doctor?  Well sort of.

Dr. Vicente Celorio gets the call and he is on his way.  With no back-up plan.  [Um. Tell me again where this guy trained.]

Guzmán reports to Generalísimo Lili.  He's going to make her dreams come true.  The Generalísimo accepts the tribute.  Now she can die happy, as the wife of Francisco Guzmán.

The grown-ups in the waiting room, Bea and Cande, are upset about this pity wedding.  Roy is still defending the idea of their homespun version of Make-a-Wish.  [Roy, sweetie, it's not like taking her to DisneyLand.]  Nikki arrives with the judge who is going to perform the ceremony.  Arriaga and Vikki come in just as they are ironing out the details of the wedding.  What wedding? asks the bewildered Arriaga.  Frankie explains …

Remember how yesterday Jocelyn told Yawn Carlos she was holding a box that Adriana had left for him?  Well now the box is delivered to Joan's apartment.  And its contents are heavy.

Arriaga can't believe what he is hearing.  Are the Stupids having a convention here in the hospital?  He thanks the assembled dunderheads for their good intentions but explains his objections with eloquent simplicity:
El asunto es que ustedes quieren que mi hija se vaya feliz, y yo solamente estoy apostando a que mi hija viva.
(The issue is that you all want my daughter to die happy, and I'm just betting on my daughter to live.)

Meanwhile, in her apartment, Adriana is also praying for LuciLili's life.  Maybe she should be praying for baby Adrián too.
[But the writers know what they are doing, right?]

Dr. Vicente examines her, says it would be better for her to be in a hospital -- she's only seven months along -- but there's no time for that.  He'll have to deliver the baby here and now.

Heartache in a box or sticking it to him, Balvanera Style
Joan opens the box and slips the accompanying DVD into his player.  Adriana appears on the screen and instructs him on how to proceed.

Open box number 1, she says from the video.  He'll find some films he gave her.  She was going to keep them to remember him by but she doesn't need them anymore. She carries the best part of their story in her heart.

And those blank sheets of paper?  Those are for the letters they never wrote.

The small jewelry case?  Two rings, symbols of the commitment he never made.

And the wine glasses?  For celebrating the happiness they will never share.
[Joan is looking sadder and sadder as he silently obeys Adriana's recorded words.]

That frame (portaretratos*)? It won't hold our photo, the one they never took.

[*A new verb-noun compound.  Squee!  portar: to carry + retrato: portrait]

It seems Joan is, at heart, afraid of love, says Adriana.

Joan's face contorts with pain.

The real Adriana is sweating as Vicente guides her through her labor.

José Ángel has a serious talk with Lili.  He urges her to rethink this marriage thing.  She knows that Francisco cares for her as a friend, a sister, perhaps.  But it is Nikki that he loves.  And that isn't going to change.  If Lili and Frankie get married, over time his affection will erode to resentment and they will both be miserable.  She has never been a selfish person …

Back in the waiting room, they are all distancing themselves from the marriage idea.  Roy, Frankie and Nikki in particular have their fingers crossed that the Wise Patriarch Arriaga will save their buns.

Adriana pushes, she screams, and her screams are amplified by an echo chamber. [Thanks for that, production team.]   We see the silhouette of a child held upside down. [No, really.]  We hear an infant's vigorous cry.  It's a boy!  Vicente beams at the child in his arms and Adriana smiles her joy and relief.

The final item in the box …

And the little shoes?  They're for the child he didn't want to have.

[Oh man.  Not the little shoes.]

Joan is sobbing.  Alone.  The lanchanerfazos are forgotten on the Patio.  Boxes of Kleenex are passed around.

While in the intimacy of Adriana's bedroom, Vicente puts the new baby in his mother's arms.

And in the hospital waiting room, Arriaga announces that Lili has agreed to give up her Frankie fantasy for now and focus her energies on fighting for her life.  Sorry, judge.  No wedding today.

Salsero is at the Instituto Elite working on the case.  He has a witness who saw an old woman enter the greenhouse at the time of the attack.  He realizes the perp was in disguise and recognizes the signature of the crime.  Aha.

It finally occurs to Vicente to call for some help.  He has summoned his buddy Mariano, a pediatrician he trained with.  [Oh dear.]  Doc Mariano gives little Adrian the once-over, and declares this seven-monther in the pink. (9 and 9 Apgars, Silverman-Andersen, 0.  Grade inflation?  You decide.)  All is well.

And Adrián's biological father (who doesn't yet know that he is a father)?  He is in the Balvanera foyer asking to see Adriana.  While Tomasina is explaining that Adriana doesn't live in the Mansion anymore, Aníbal blusters in, incensed at Joan's presence.  Joan boasts that he managed to get his film made after all.  He is sure Aníbal hates him because of his love for Vikki 25 years ago.  Vikki?  That's old news.  What bites is that Yawn Carlos knocked up his other daughter!  Cara impactada de Joan.

Adriana, Adrián and Vicente are bonding nicely.  Says Vicente:
Se que no es mi sangre pero me tocó vivir el milagro de su nacimiento.
(I know he isn't mine by blood but I got to live the miracle of his birth.)

Adriana, despite her promise to tell no one, shares with Vicente what she learned earlier today: Lili Arriaga is their very own daughter, Lucía.  Vicente wants to know the whole story and doesn't understand why they have to wait until the CandeBalls nuptials to hear it.  Adri persuades him that for now, it is best to say nothing, especially to Arriaga.  It would be unspeakably cruel for him to find out at this moment that Lili is not his child.

Aníbal is still spewing atrocities in the foyer (which poor Polita is going to have to mop up later).  "The birth of that bastard would be the worst thing that could happen!"  Joan is shocked and then furious.  He warns Aníbal that if he tries any dirty stuff, he'll kill him.

At the hospital, Lili is well enough to give a statement to the police.  But all she can tell them is that an old woman tried to grab her, she defended herself, and she was stabbed.

Out in the waiting room again, Arriaga goes a little ballistic, yelling at Robles and his men to do more.  Vikki manages to soothe him.  [I just love these two together.]

Adriana explains to Vicente that Arriaga's late wife was her half-sister and the couple raised Lili lovingly.  Vicente will try to go along with her but thinks it will be hard to say nothing when he and Lili are face to face.  Adriana hopes that learning what happened to his own child may mitigate Arriaga's pain when he finds out the truth about Lili. [That may be overly optimistic, Adriana.]

Cande is still with Arriaga in the hospital and she argues that this is not Cristina redux.  Lili is going to live.  And it will be his love that saves her.  "Remember this," says Cande.  "Lili will be your daughter forever."

Joan calls Jocelyn to get Adriana's new address.

A singing, dancing, perhaps slightly tipsy Espanto trips into his hidey-hole and is unpleasantly surprised when Salsero edges in behind him, knocks him down and points a gun at his head:
"You are going to tell me right now -- why did you hurt Arriaga's daughter?"
The two scuffle but Salsero is stronger and Salsero is the one with the gun. Punch. Push. Slam. Wham against the wall.
"Whose idea was it?  Yours or Kendra's?  You don't leave here until you confess!"

A hand presses a doorbell repeatedly.  Vicente opens the door of Apartment 904 and faces Joan.

"Your son's father is here," Vicente tells Adri. "And he has the right to know the truth."  Adri agrees.  She seems unprepared for Joan's fury:

Why did she lie to him? he thunders.  Why didn't she tell him about the baby?

Why Confessions Obtained by Torture Aren't Confessions
Bloody, pulp-faced Espanto is ready to sing.  He was going to kidnap old Balvanera's new granddaughter for ransom.  He wasn't going to hurt her.  Kendra?  She wasn't even in Mexico when he planned the job.  She had nothing to do with it although she did tell him a long time back that Cristina was Aníbal's daughter. Sniveling Espanto begs for mercy -- all he wants is a chance to disappear and he'll never bother Lili again.  He'd better disappear, says Salsero ominously.  For his own sake and his mother's.

"You have nothing to reproach me for," Adriana tells Joan.  She tried many times to tell him about the baby; but all he cared about was his film.  He ran from commitment, didn't want kids --.

"But this child comes at the worst possible time," says Joan.

"Not for me," replies Adriana.  And for the second time, she breaks her promise and tells Joan of her other great joy today -- she found the daughter she had with Vicente.

Vicente wants to know what Joan plans to do about baby Adrian.  If he doesn't want to be his father, Vicente will happily step in.  He plans to ask Adri to marry him.

Salsero recites a somewhat bowdlerized version of his findings to Guzmán.  He found the tipo responsible for hurting Lili and he's sure he won't try anything again.  He has no proof and his methods for obtaining a confession were … unorthodox.  Frankie is skeptical.  These jobs are rarely the work of one person.  Besides, knowing Arriaga, he's going to want to get even with the guy himself.  Too late, says Salsero:
Ese fulano puso pies en polvorosa.
(The guy is already gone/ took a powder.)

Bloody Espanto reports back to Kendra.  She is glad to hear he had her back.  Now he needs to go out of town for a couple of weeks until things cool down.

He hands her the magic drops she requested.  She thinks about Nabila's death and how the doctor said it was due to a sudden heart attack.  She looks thoughtful. [Or maybe I mean murderous.  Hmm.]  Espanto reminds her to wear gloves when she uses the drops. [which gives us some hope that she will forget.]

It is late now.  Vicente and Adriana snuggle with baby Adrián and spend the predawn hours catching up.

Nikki and Frankie are snuggling too, both aware that they dodged a bullet today.  Marrying Lili would have blighted their lives.

But Kendra and Nelson aren't snuggling.  In fact Nelson is irate that Kendra has been out all evening.  She tells him she went to see a movie about a guy who disguises himself as a granny to attack his victims.  She gets angry when he reproaches her for walking out on their baby.  She's fed up!  And if he doesn't trust her, maybe it's time for them to go their separate ways.

She stalks out.  Nelson doesn't follow her.
[Get thee to a notary, Nelson.  Time to change your beneficiaries.]

Arriaga is in the hospital with Lili, stroking her face, her hair, talking about her childhood, about his and Cristina's great love for her.  He regrets not being there when she was born, he tells her:
No te vi nacer, mi solecito, pero no te quiero ver morir.
(I didn't see your birth, my little sunshine, but I don't want to see your death.)

Avances:  Lili is once again on the brink of death.  Once again, her life is in the hands of her real father.  And once again some of us are not sure her real father is a real doctor.

You said it well NovelaMaven, so funny your comments about Vicente. Apgar scores, very funny. 9/9 in a 7 month gestation baby, que milagros! Yep, get your medical student buddy in here to be the pediatrician.

Generalisimo Lili. True.

I, too, hoped Kendho would forget her gloves. Yes, what is Nelson thinking, making her a beneficiary after his death-like this woman would settle to wait for that.

Did anyone else think Adriana's little video box was a bit sadistic?

Masterful title NovelaMaven.

Your words conveyed the myriad of thoughts and emotions (pain, hope, desperation, love and malevolence) perfectly. I relived every moment through your heartfelt yet smart recap. It was lovely.

"[Oh man. Not the little shoes", "Aníbal is still spewing atrocities in the foyer (which poor Polita is going to have to mop up later)" and "A singing, dancing, perhaps slightly tipsy Espanto trips into his hidey-hole..." were among my favorites. Your conversation translations are so appreciated.

Loved the bonding between Vincente and Adri and the baby.

I was in tears during Adri's video - it must have crushed Carlos' heart...While I feel for him, there seems to be no doubt that Adri and Vincente will be together.

"The issue is that you all want my daughter to die happy, and I'm just betting on my daughter to live" made my eyes well up. So happy to hear him say those wise words. As you noted, I love JA and Vicky too. She was a quiet but notable presence last night, yet her love and support was palpable. She has let him grieve, rage and emote - yet has solidly and lovingly supported him.

I believe in the power of love and hope. With Vincente and JA on her side, how can Lili not pull through? They will not give up on her, nor will I.

Does Univision censor only the USA broadcast?

I am referring to the scene where Adriana was changing the new baby's diaper. They fuzzed out the groin area. Also the scene where Espanto was being beaten up by Salsa Dude. They fuzzed out some of the naughty bits on the wall poster of 4 beach girls....and I remember, Univision fuzzed out part of the box of the boombox given to Lili by Adriana in the greenhouse...this done, I suppose so viewers can't see the make or model of the boombox.

Great job NovelaMaven! No nerfazos needed. I really liked this episode with its roller coaster of emotions. I am gald JA did exactly what I thought, and talked some sense into those crazy kids about the pity wedding. I thought he would actually lose it more than he did, but he managed to keep relatively calm.

I loved the scenes of bonding between Adri, Little Adri and Vicente. It was nice for them to have that moment together, given their history, but I couldn't help feeling that she was depriving Carlos of that moment, like she and Vicente had been all those years ago. I had to laugh when Adri was so shocked by Carlos' anger at not being told about her being pregnant with his child. She's a true Balvanera that way.

Emarie- Yes. I did think the box was sadistic...but very clever. She really knows how to stick the knife in and twist it.

They never showed us what the result was of Vincente's talk with Carlos. I don't think there's any question that Adri's heart has moved on from Carlos. They had their moment, but they both let it slip away. Meanwhile, Vicente is determined to take this second opportunity to be with his first love. But what kind of parental terms will they come to with Carlos?

GoBLueFan- Televisa (a Mexican company) is the producer and owner of this tn. They sell it to companies around the world, like Univision (a US company). What those companies do with the product is up to them and their local standards. I am certain the US-based Uni is the only one of those companies that feels the need to blur a baby's privates. Other countries seem to understand that naked babies aren't porn. Some other countries don't have a problem with real porn either-- hence Espanto's naked ladies poster that was blurred here, but not in Mexico. :)

This is short as I drive from Portland Oregon to SF...trying to get home to catch most of Premios.

JA the voice of hope and reason. Enough said.

Yawn Carlos feeling a little remorseful. Too little too late.

Vicente......a galan anyone could want. Stand up guy.

Salsero comes through! He has Kendho's number,
We are now in wrap-up mode.

When I take a half-way stretch break, I'll check in again to read more comments.
Great job

NovelaMaven,

What a treat to have your FABULOUS recap. OMG you are just the wittiest person.

"Roy, Frankie and Nikki in particular have their fingers crossed that the Wise Patriarch Arriaga will save their buns." Hahaha! So funny! And how ironic that not-the-brightest-tool-in-the-shed Arriaga is the sage voice of reason! "Dunderheads" was perfect!

Also loved "he called his friend who trained with him. Oh Dear!" Sooooo funny

I thought Adri's video was beyond bitter and spiteful and, quite honestly, out of character. I can see her sending a box like that to Anibal, whom she truly despises, but I thought she and yawn-Carlos parted amicably, albeit a little sadly, on her part.

NM: Duolingo was a huge hit at the beach! My teens were downloading onto their phones, their friends downloaded and my 7 year old loves to play it on my iPad. I'm shocked how many she gets right!

Doris: lol Sharknado!!! You could hang w my son and his friends!!!

Thanks again NM. Your recaps are a gift!

Katy

NovelaMaven - Love, love, love your Willie S. quote for the title. Well done! Thank you for the recap.

The writers missed the mark in naming this telenovela. It should have been Padres Verdaderos.

I definitely need a larger TV or better glasses. When Adriana's water broke and the camera focused on the waterfall, I did not see a thing. AND I was sitting six feet from the screen. Thank heavens for recappers!!!

WHY didn't Adriana call 911 for an ambulance? It's not like she could not afford one to take her to the hospital. Just sayin'…

Major TELENOVELA BEANIE HAT MOMENT --- > Doesn't a 8-week early preemie need an incubator? or a bed in the NICU? or something? And… Adriana's baby is one whale of a preemie. Looks like it weighs at least(!) 10 lbs.

There was one camera shot where she is holding the baby and, I swear, his face looked just like Joan/Carlos'.

Guzman definitely deserves that Darwin Award that Aribeth(?) threatened to give him.
Thank heavens Wise Patriarch Arriaga arrived upon the scene and put a stop to the boda tontería!!!

Heartache in a box or sticking it to him, Balvanera Style" LOL Adri knows how to twist that knife. She's not a Balvanera for nothing!
[Oh man. Not the little shoes.] BwaHahahahaaaa! Love your asides!

GoBlueFan - I noticed those fuzzed out shots, too. Ridiculous. One could see the baby had on a diaper (yet I couldn't see Adri's water as it broke but the camera shot did, apparently, because I figured it out…) and the pin-up girls at Espanto's looked like they had tops on; visible some shots. Or maybe they didn't and my vision really is bad.

I think Adriana wanted to avoid a hospital because she doesn't trust that Anibal wouldn't make her baby disapppear from a hospital. And given what he said to Carlos, I don't blame her.

Katy: You are totally right - the video was bitter and oddly out of character for Adri. I did feel badly for Carlos. However, not bad enough to pick him over Vincente. Ahhh, the power of the galan!

doris: Padres Verdaderos - good one! An alternate title for this episode would also have been "Who's Your Daddy?" Thankfully, NovelaMaven bestowed a title with far more dignity ;)

Vivi, I also didn't blame Adri from wanting to leave the confines of her apartment. Anibal's arm is long but she is safe. For the moment.

Diana

NovelaMaven:

Superb recap! Marvelous! I too liked the shout out to Willie S.

I was shocked, well not really, that Adri had her bebe! Ms Vikki must be like what, nine months by now? I did see the "water" on Adri's legs as she was sitting on the couch. I agree with Vivi, about Adri having her bebe at the apartment, far away from any Anyballs action. And the bebe is healthy too, no lung problems, amazing!

I thought the box was very sad, like she was rubbing their relationship in Yawn Carlos' face. It was very sad. Maybe she sent this box after he left for Spain and Josie held on to it. It had to be before Vicente came back. That DVD was very bitter.

Thank goodness the Angel put a stop to that pity wedding. He was right in what he told LiliLuci. I hope Roy goes in to see her again. I too like that Angel is focused on Lili getting well and not dying. I like how the Angel is very positive with her.

I have to hand it to Nikki, she even got the judge! She really is maturing.

I just knew Dances would figure out who tried to kill Lili way before the cops. I don't think he bought that the Ho had nothing to do with it. And Espanto let that big clue drop that Kendho knew that Cris was a Balvanera, some time back. I wonder if Dances will remember that for a later time.

I fear for anyone that the Ho has on her list next. Those drops were deadly for Nabila. I wonder who the Ho has in mind next.

Vicente is between a rock and a hard place. How will he be able to handle the fact that Lili is Luci when he is treating her? It will be interesting to see what he does and how he hides the fact he knows, especially in front of the Angel. I think this will be extremely tough for him.

Doris:

My daughter is watching Sharknado tonight, lol. I may just take a peek ; )

Great recap.

With any luck at all Don Anibal and Kendra will kill each other with the blow fish poison.

Are we to assume the Lilliana fate will drag on for 6 more episodes? Talk about obsessions: Adriana with where's my bebe and Lilliana with Franky.

Candle lady and Anibal deserve each other. I'll tell you the rest after the wedding. Que? WTH.

I want Nelson to go postal again and spill the beans in the hospital with everybody present...that's my ending.

Doris--I saw that same shot of newborn Yawn/Carlos!! Casting agent deserves an Oscar!

Another extraordinary recap, NovelaMaven. So well done and so very funny especially:

"[Oh man. Not the little shoes.]"

I thought the box and video were right on target... very balvanerish. I don't feel too sorry for Carlos who you quoted as saying (and we all heard him):

"But this child comes at the worst possible time,"

I think it's neat that Vicente will be saving his long lost daughter and likely be the only cardiovascular surgeon in his group to get to sign a birth certificate.

Carlos

Thanks for the great recap NovelaMaven!

I had fun during this episode with Super Vicente, I don't think he has been able to sleep for a couple of days in telenovela time but he is still up to save everyone.

Adriana's storyline required a little beanie but I will share this: My grandma worked as an assistant for a midwife during her youth. When she was eight months into her second pregnancy, her water broke in a ranch and there was only a teenage cleaning lady there with her. So my grandma handled the birth without painkillers and with the help of a teenager. My uncle grew up to be a very tall and strong man.

I love Victoria and JA together too. They are wonderful as a couple and I'm glad we've gotten to watch them deal together with several issues. That's how it should be.

It's funny that Univision does not show the babies naked, I've never noticed if US television has ever showed naked babies to be honest. In fact, I don't ever put attention to how much is shown of a baby during birth scenes, period. I guess if I had Univision then I would, lol.

Jarocha

Thank you, NOvelamaven, for another excellent recap.

What an exciting episode. I did not expect Anyoldballs to be the one to tell YawnCarlos that he was The real baby daddy. I , too, caught that shot of Baby looking just like daddy.Great casting...amazing resemblance. My grand baby Evelyn looked exactly like her daddy when she was born. My son-in-law was so delighted to tell me that when he called to let us know that she had been born. Now, she is starting to look more like my daughter but with her daddy's big, blue eyes.

I had trouble watching Dances beating up Scraggly Espanto. The scene seemed so realistic. ..All that blood. ...all those punches. YIKES and GEEZ, what a dump he lives in. Doesn't he get big bucks from the ho for doing all her dirty work ???? I am glad that Dances is hot on the ho's trail.

When Ho got the deadly drops from Scraggly, I had visions of two cups , one with the deadly drops, and Anyballs or Furry switching cups and the ho drinking the deadly brew.
I agree that big Angel is the voice of reason and the only person who presumes that Lililu will survive...no death bed marriage for her. This idea reminds me of Alborada when it seemed that Cristobal would die and married Iran Castillo to provide from her and protect her from her dreadful father...then, he survived and they eventually lived happily ever after.

I was surprised that we got such a close up view of Adri's water breaking. Whoa..in three pregnancies, my water never broke, so that was a new view for me. I think that Adri called Vicente instead of an ambulance because she wanted the birth to be a private moment of bonding for them. They were cheated out of this special experience with Lucia because of EvilAny. Gee, the man looks GREAT in green. Insert BIG SIGH here. I am such a fool for a sweet guy...and Vicente is so sweet.

Thank you NovelaMaven, what superb
writing.

But the writers know what they are
doing right?---sometimes, I am not so sure.

Wow!!! What a box Adri sent to Joan
She could have just put a knife in him. It would have been little to no difference. That scene showed how badly us gringos need the recappers. I thought that the box was a nice thankfull gift and that Joan was crying because he really loved and missed her. I hope that I never get a box like that. That was strong, very strong. Yes, that was Balvanera for sure.

Anibal is spewing atrocities in the foyer [which poor Polita is going to have to mop up later.]

She looks thoughtful, [or maybe I mean murderous. Hmmm.]

[get thee to a notery, Nelson. Time
to change your beneficaries.]

GREAT writing NovelaMaven.

The wisdom of Diana---"Who's your
daddy?"

Gobluefan---A day or two ago you made mention of the fact that while
in the hospital room, no face masks are worn. I have wondered about that before myself. I think that they might do that so as to not muffle the dialogue or to make the actors more recognizable--not have their faces covered up.

Will the Little Orchid be saved? She has to now, for Adriana's and Vicente's sake---and yes, for Roy,s
the gringo

Oh...I agree the the box o' heartache seemed like an Uncharacteristically cruel, vengeful move on Adri's part. That video took a lot of time and effort to produce. YIKES Ouch. Wasn't there a popular song years ago about someone' sending back all the gifts from an ex? My sixth grade beau still has the ID bracelet he gave me. He told me that I threw it out the second story classroom window after he started buzzing around another girl. I have no memory of doing that...........

NovelaMaven - Thanks for a beautiful recap. Many of my favorite lines have already been mentioned but here are a few more:

"With no back-up plan. [Um. Tell me again where this guy trained.]"

"Back in the waiting room, they are all distancing themselves from the marriage idea."

"[Oh man. Not the little shoes.]"

Gringo - "She could have just put a knife in him." – lol

I too thought the baby looked like Carlos, especially the nose. If Carlos wants a chance with Adriana, he better fight like hell. Poor thing, he fought like hell for Vickie 25 years ago and still lost. Dang, blown away by both sisters. But at least this time he gets a consolation prize.

I don't want to see Anibal or KendaHo felled in an instant by those drops. They both need to suffer a long time, behind bars.

Salsero knows that the crime wave against the Balvaneras has continued despite his banging up Espanto and threatening KendaHo. Surely he knows they won't stop.

Novela Maven and Willie Dearest, You two are a grand team of sparkling writing and wit! I loved every part of it. So right on with descriptions and character assessments (and assasinations).

I loved the care Adrian displayed to prepare a professional documentary video to drive home what Yawn had so blithely eschewed. "Oh no not the little shoes" indeed. Perfect film to make him pay attention when he had not before. I do think our heart-throb surgeon, neo-natal wonder is being so kind to make Adri and Yawn share the moment of birth and I bet he will be good about Yawn enjoying visitations later if Yawn isnt' a total knucklehead.

I also loved that Vicente's lovely green shirt that Susanlynn admired was so clean and pressed looking after delivering a two month primi. What a show, ¿no?

One tiny correction: you called Espanto Salsero in the car scene where KenHo gets the vile vial of doom. I wonder if Espanto has some deep feelings for KendHo since he denied that she had any part of it. I don't think Salsero will stay fooled about her being the evil brains behind all the schemes eventually.

Another thing, just when I thought Liliana couldn't be any stupider, she proved me wrong by waking up and thinking Frankie would give up his true love and marry her and didn't she nearly pull it off! What and idiot they have made her be. But thanks to the biggest Angel, she had to face the reality that a disney dream would not last and would turn to regret and disgust if she continued. Best decision he ever made. And I too am loving the Vikki/Angel relationship.

gringo: "She could have just put a knife in him. It would have been little to no difference". Perfect!

And no amigo, you would never get a box like that!

Diana

NM thanks for another wonderful recap. So happy you got and translated JA as voice of reason for the dunderheads.

Though I was shocked about the video/box Adriana sent (ITA w/those of you who felt it out of character for her) and she should have told Joan, his response to finding out he was the father, bad timing -- really, made him toast for me.

I always look forward to your recaps. I haven't seen the episode yet, but I *had* to read the patented NovelaMaven snark.

Everyone has mentioned it, but the line "[Oh man. Not the little shoes.]" is just hilarious. I'm still laughing. It's just so droll.

And of course, I always enjoy when you pick out a line and translate it. Love the ones you chose. I'll listen out for them.

I've just taken a few minutes to read through your clever comments. As always, thank you for your kind words.

Emarie:
Maybe it's time for me to stop batting at the easy ones. This TN has so many things to love that I promise that from now on I'll let the medical silliness slide. [What? I DID NOT have my fingers crossed when I wrote that! I'm TYPING here!]

Diana:
I love the way you sum up Vikki's role for Arriaga during this latest crisis:
"She has let him grieve, rage and emote - yet has solidly and lovingly supported him."
And of course, we've seen him do the same for her.

Gobluefan:
I don't even pay attention to fuzzies anymore. I did notice the baby was wearing a diaper and vaguely wondered if the intent was to blur out a product name.

Vivi:
Yup, you called it! The pity wedding was just a tiny speed bump in the plot. And you're right -- we haven't heard the end of the Vicente-Carlos conversation. Personally I think it would be fun for Adrián to grow up with Joan as his second daddy. I bet Aunt Bruna would spoil him to pieces.

SFChica:
Drive safe!

"Salsero comes through"? I have my doubts. I thought he was hampered by his past last night and couldn't do the right thing. He couldn't give his info to the police because he knew Espanto (and Kendra) would turn on him. So he ended up letting Espanto go free. And we all know we haven't seen the last of him.

Frankly, I was disappointed in Salsero last night.

Katy:
It's probably worth remembering that Adri put the box together six months earlier after Joan left her so abruptly and the miasma of Bruna was still lingering in the air. But yes, it was very sharp. As Gringo puts it so well: "She could have just put a knife in him."

Oh and I'm so glad Duolingo is a hit in your house!

Doris:
PADRES VERDADEROS! Love it.
I didn't even notice the baby's resemblance to Yawn Carlos. Must take another look.

As I said above -- eight weeks early, full-term, meh. Time to let it go. It's too hot for tight beanies, especially today.

Madelaine:
Willie S and me, we go way back :D
I'm also hoping that Roy hangs in there. (Wow. Never thought I'd find myself rooting for Tennis Boy. Hah.)

Golawah:
I don't know if you've commented before but WELCOME! I hope to see you around here again.

Do you think Cande and Ani really deserve each other? I agree that Cande has been majorly STOOPID but Aníbal is MONSTROUS. Ah well. Six more episodes. Things will sort themselves out.

Carlos:
"I think it's neat that Vicente will be saving his long lost daughter and likely be the only cardiovascular surgeon in his group to get to sign a birth certificate."

Me too. [snort. oops, excuse me.]

Jarocha:
I enjoyed your story about your grandmother. Thanks for sharing that.

As for SuperVicente --

" I don't think he has been able to sleep for a couple of days in telenovela time but he is still up to save everyone."

-- I was a little worried about how he was going to be at 6am when he is back on duty at the hospital. Oh that's right, he's going to be performing a do or die surgery ON HIS OWN DAUGHTER. Ay ay ay.

Susanlynn:
I was also surprised that Aníbal was the one to spill the beans about Adriana's pregnancy.

As for the dump Espanto lives in, I was thinking it was the kind of place Kendra belongs in. Well no, I take that back. It is a gazillion times better than what she deserves.

Gringo:
I don't peek ahead and I have no idea if the Little Orchid will be saved. But I sure hope so -- her death would cause so much heartache for so many people.

Niecie:
"I don't want to see Anibal or KendaHo felled in an instant by those drops. They both need to suffer a long time, behind bars."

Agreed. (Isn't it great the way TN's bring out our inner sociopath?) Also it is pretty much the TN law that Kendra must lose her beauty before she goes. None of this "Live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse" for her!

CherylNewMex:
"character assessments (and assasinations)."

You are so on to me!

BTW, thanks for the correction. It's fixed now.

Karen:
"[Joan's] response to finding out he was the father, bad timing -- really, made him toast for me."

It's funny. For a big-shot famous filmmaker, Joan sure seems to meter la pata a lot. (He could give Polita a run for her money.) I think sometimes he blurts things out that he doesn't necessarily mean; now he'll have to live with the consequences.

Well Miss Sara C:
Now you *have* to see the episode. It reminds me of the old Ben Casey show -- MAN, WOMAN, BIRTH, DEATH, INFINITY.

BTW, check out the BOX and tell me if it doesn't remind you of Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Past.
:)

Just been reading the comments and enjoying them.

Gringo-I also was wondering about the masks in Lili's room; I don’t know why they have anyone wearing masks in that room; masks are for respiratory isolation. Pulleeeze. She got a pruning clipper in the gut-probably perforated her colon-(I know they said liver, too), she has to be septic, no germs any visiter brings in would be worse than those she is incubating in that wound, in the States she’d be getting bags of IV antibiotics; but no one would need to wear a mask. Gloves maybe if they touched her-but even that, probably not. It’s redic, do let's all keep our beanies firmly attached!

Jarocha-Love your story. Giving birth at eight mos is much better than 7; but let’s face it sometimes people have their dates wrong, perhaps Adriana can’t count (although I remember her using her fingers!)

NovelaMaven: Please, please keep batting at the easy ones, you are so funny!!
I did so love that “oh no not the little shoes” and “dunderheads” Novelomaven. Still don’t get why Adri sent the box at all, to what purpose? I guess she sent it before re uniting with Vincente, but then it even is more weird because she includes the little shoes and she was telling him he wasn’t the father. ITA Salsero; am worried for all he has to answer for; but; they do occasionally let a character gloss over old faults.

Golawah-ITA, do hope Kendho dies from her own poison and don’t care if she takes Anibal with her.

SFChica: Have safe trip. You are not blogging and driving are you??

There is a certain irony, and perhaps method to the madness, of Adri communicating with Joan/Carlos via a video. After all, film/video is his life, career and fortune.

As for the Pandora's box of goodies she sent, that was just weird. And mean spirited. And unnecessary. Adriana really did not try that hard to tell him she was pregnant. He said something against kids and she backed off oh-so-quickly.

But then she-who-carried-rocks in her purse for weeks and recently brought HOW MUCH MONEY??? to a stranger who said they could tell her where her daughter was, has never been known for being the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Thanks, NM! Great remarks that everyone else has raved over, but I loved it all.

Thank goodness JA felt like stepping up as The Voice of Reason. I was cheering him on as he gently smacked down all those well-meaning dimwits for planning on his daughter dying, and even more gently smacked down Lili regarding the reality of marriage to a guy who does not love her. Well done, Big Angel.

That message box was way sadistic. It seems weird that Adri would be all, yep, we agreed nothing serious, be on your merry way and then put together that nastigram. Of course, *we* know why she felt more attached, but if Jonesin' Constantly had gotten hold of it earlier, wouldn't she have expected him to be VERY confused about why she was taking their relationship so very seriously in retrospect? If she really thought he was moving on, would she have thought he would care about "the photo we'll never take" and "the baby we'll never have"? Odd.

Anyway, well done Adri and Vicente in safely delivering the little squawker.

I'm disappointed in Salsero, too. Beating Espanto down must have been satisfying, but it isn't going to solve anything.

Oh,,, I see we have no AV tonight.
Withdrawal City.
I'll watch Sharknado instead. No doubt(!!!) it will require a handy dandy telenovela beanie hat.

Right now I'm guessing that Adriana can pick and choose between Joan and Vicente...let's take a look at both:

Vicente... pluses...
1. He was her first love
2. He's the daddy of Lucia/Liliana
3. Even after all these years they seemed to pick up right where they left off and are very comfortable together
4. He's presentable
5. He's affectionate and sensitive and still seems to have love for her
6. He's overcome almost insurmountable odds and become a success... a cardiovascular surgeon in fact... not to mention that he's retained obstetrical skills which could save them money if they decide (decide heck... Adri seems to just let it happen) to have future children
7. He will likely save their daughter's life for a second time in about as many days
8. He has no fear of Aníbal
9. He seems both willing and happy to be a daddy for little Adrian

Vicente... minuses...

1. He's a cardiovascular surgeon... this means that she will be a Dr.'s wife and will have to make sacrifices because of this... She seems devoted to her own photography profession and has been something of a jet setter... She doesn't strike me as a potential Jr. Leaguer
2. He doesn't shave
3. He didn't seem to have made much of an effort to locate her after they were split up

OK now Joan... pluses...

1. He's her most current love and they seem very compatible
2. He's the biological daddy to little Adrian
3. He's discovered (OK a little late) that he loves Adriana
4. Their careers seem to mesh nicely and he's definitely a jetsetter
5. He's willing and apparently happy to be a daddy to little Adrian
6. He's not afraid of Aníbal
7. He's very successful having overcome difficult obstacles
8. He's presentable
9. He's not a cardiovascular surgeon with all the demands that requires

Joan... minuses...

1. He's self-centered and selfish
2. He's deceitful
3. He wears sissy scarves
4. He's not a cardiovascular surgeon and does not have obstetrical skills
5. He was her sister's first love

I'm sure there's many more things to recommend and detract from each. I'm having a difficult time deciding, but I reluctantly cast my vote for...

JOAN

He's now, Vicente was then.

Other opinions may vary.

Now, as much as I tried to salvage him, let's kill Aníbal.

Carlos

Carlos, I think you need to take one off of your Vicente minuses list. He didn't look for Adri because Anyballs said he would kill them both if he did. And he knew Anyballs was a bad dad who just might do it. He stayed away from Adri to save her life.

Carlos- You forgot a plus for Vicente. He's mega, hyper, super, duper HOT! Guau!!!

I'm glad you've finally given up on your homeboy Anibal.

Vivi,

I said that Vicente is presentable. Let's not get carried away.

I feel so cheated by Aníbal. He has such a presence and elegance about him. The way he slapped down Kendra was perfection. I kept thinking that there has to be some good reason that Antonio has stuck by him all these years. I'm so disappointed.

Carlos

I watched the awards showor awhile, but I soon lost interest after seeing Pitbull, Big Ed, Erika, Rulli, Lucero, and the girl who plays the ho and switched to Project Runway which is starting a new season.

Gee, Carlos, that was quite a scorecard you presented. I could just see you presenting it in a Power POint presentation. However, I really HATE Power Point presentations , so I' m glad that you didn't go that route. I always enjoy your analytical, yet snarky, style. I really hope that Adri does not end up with Carlos for one very simple reason...he is not yummy, super delicious Vicente. Pretty analytical, huh ?? And...I do not see the facial hair as a negative...I am liking the beard and mustache. Let me just go on record as saying that if Carlos wins the hand of the fair Adri, I may never watch another telenovela...just say in'. The Silver Fox is handsome, but he still does not seem like he really wants to commit and settle down.

P.s. Basic Instinct is on Encore tonight. I wonder if KendrHO watched it before her big seduction scene with Anyoldballs...who was not having any of it. On to Plan B for the ho.

So Vicente seems pleasant enough but do he and Adriana have a THEME SONG?

Is Vicente neurotic enough for Adriana? Because Joan surely is.

It's a tough call.

Susanlynn, I suspect the Basic Instinct moves of our favorite meretriz come to her by ... well ... basic instinct.

Carlos ---
"2. He doesn't shave" ROFLOL!!!!!
That bothers me, too.

BTW, your "minuses" on Joan's column outnumber Vicente's. And then there are those tragic ascots . . .

NovelaMaven ---
"Is Vicente neurotic enough for Adriana? Because Joan surely is." That is definitely a tough call. { snerk…snerk }

- - -
There is something about Joan/Carlos that I find him very good-looking; as good-looking as Dr. Hottie but in a different way.

What if Adriana dumped both of them?

...or Three's Company ..Adrian has two daddies ....AND a mommy.

Love that title, NovelMaven.

Vivi, I was smiling when I read your item regarding the censorship and blurring here in the States. Years ago, in 1990s, my family and I were in Europe trip, in Rome to be exact and we just got back in our hotel room after a day's tour. My two daughters and I were flopped on bed watching here and there funny tv (Jerry Lewis, speaking Italian) and there was a flash of commercial with a nude lady(frontal all visible). My daughters called my attention since I wasn't really paying attention. Can you imagine that was 20 years ago!!! And here in the US we are still not allowed to see any kind of nudity in advertisements or shows.Hahaha!!!

I feel for Carlos, since he doesn't know his feelings and I think if he makes the right move, Adriana might still go for him because she also loves him. I know that Vicente and she were first love but Vicente will understand I think.
Thank God, that the writers are just playing a trick on us. Nikki and Guzmancito really "dodged that bullet." Now Let Roy Kiss the Disney Princess again.

My money is on Lili ending up with Roy, now that JA steered her away from the Guzman obsession.

Great comments all.
Home safe and sound@ 7:15pm PDT.
Since I am on the west coast, I made it home in time for the "pre-game" festivities.....Really just wanted to get back home and watch my telenovio (and Madelaine's) on my big television.....looking forward to Friday's epi.

Carlos: Loved your fair and balanced list. Well thought out and while I enjoyed everything, "He wears sissy scarves" made me laugh out loud.

But, you are not really serious about picking Joan over Vincente, are you? ;)

Before Vincente was in the picture and even when he first reappeared, I was warming to the idea of Joan (Silver Fox - thanks Susanlynn). But, there was always something fairly offputting and NovelaMaven nailed what it was for me: "...he blurts things out that he doesn't necessarily mean; now he'll have to live with the consequences." Failure to process before speaking is a deal breaker. That, along with lacking a sensitivity chip kind of did it for me.

I saw EY for a quick flash last night - yikes, the hair was very short. Sorry I missed Erika. Could someone please tell me what she was wearing?

SFChicaBonita: Glad you are home safe and sound.

Diana

Diana, I saw Big Ed and Erika together. I was so intent at looking at him that I did not completely process Erika's outfit. I think that her long gown was gold and ivory..quite miss Vikki., And she wore her hair in a loose upsweep. Ed's short, slickedback hair surprised me.

The wardrobe I really noticed was the actress who plays Nikki. It was very similar to the clothes she wears as Nikki...short shorts and a long jacket. she wore her hair in a ponytail. At one point, it appeared that she felt the short shorts were not short enough, and she put on what looked like the bottom of an old school two piece swimsuit ..and a jacket. ???.. She was a host. The dark haired girl hosting with her chattered a mile a minute and seemed very excited all the time. it seemed that our Nikki and whomever was being interviewed had a hard time getting a word in edgewise.

I did not watch the whole show. I just surfed in and after after watching Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez perform and then jump into a pool. I like Pitbull...J Lo...not so much.

Susanlynn: thanks so much. I have a hard time focusing on anyone else when EY is on the screen so I completely understand :)

I am not surprised Erika wore a "Vicki" dress - she seems to have a certain style she favors. My favorite outfits of hers have been the cool, white crisp shirts she sports with black pants. Cool and elegant.

I did tune in briefly during the pre-show. I heard Madonna called Nikki to tell her she wanted her 80's (Desperately Seeking Susan) outfit back. Rulli looked good but his outfit appeared more appropriate for Captain Steubing than the festivities.

Not a J Lo fan either...

Diana

Diana..I like Rulli with longer hair. it's funny how some guys look better with long locks and others do not ...William, I am looking at you.

Susanlynn: ITA. I also like longer hair on most men (except William as you noted - good one!)

His hair in LT is stringy and unbecoming. But, thank heavens it's not quite as bad "Pasion" hair. That had stringiness AND way more length. Talk about the pitts.

Gran Final Alert

During Premios Uni ran promos for the AV Gran Final, Sunday! July 28 at 8 p.m, 2 hours.

Clara

Wow, Sunday???? Thanks Clara.

Diana

Carlos, thanks so much for the thoughtful analysis of the pros and cons of the two galans facing Adriana. I like how you always play devil's advocate and occasionally the devil himself in your preferences for characters that many of us would like to string up in the town square.

I too was an Anibal fan for a long time for his cool, suave, smart and manipulating demeanor but as it has been revealed, he played so dirty with his own offspring and wouldn't do a gentlemanly retreat when his daughters had clearly chosen loves that he did not condone. Rather he made their lives miserable and seems to feel that the women in his family should be obedient and gracefully marry the men he thinks are financially and socially appropriate rather than marry for love. But then he apparently did the same thing with his wife and Cande. I for one fail to see why he has a life long love for Cande. She is such a coward but perhaps he likes her better for that very quality.

Eduardo Yañez hair was almost shaved looking last night I don't think he has a beautiful skull to carry off that look. It was still great to see him on the stage. What happened with that JenCarlo snafu? The envelope apparently had the names wrong on the credits. I remember the beautiful JenCarlo from a TN made in Florida where he grew up. He is an up and comer but seems to be spending more time on his music than on his acting career at the moment. Ahhhh juarevah...

Cheryl- Jencarlos has had a few successful tns on Telemundo. He just wrapped up one that was VERY popular-- Pasion Prohibida (a remake of a Turkish tn).

Carlos,

Great list. Hmmm, Vicente didn't try to look up Adriana after prison or med school or his divorce. Surely he read about the world famous photographer in some magazine somewhere. Becoming a "potential Jr. Leaguer" would be a deal-breaker for me. I'm open to Adri giving Carlos a chance.

I like EY with the short buzzed hair, looked very athletic. I like him with long hair, slicked back hair, curly hair, hat hair...

Clara, thanks for the information!

I haven't seen the award show yet, now I'm trying to find a stream site. I saw a few photos, and Erika looked lovely on them.

In May the cast of AV watched the last episode together (there was even a one hour long special that was filmed there). That evening EY showed up with an almost totally shaved head. (His hair was shorter than now) I'm sure he was tired of the Arriaga curls he had been sporting for a year, but he has such a huge caveman head that looks better when it's covered with hair. So now the small but firm Hungarian Lalo fanbase is waiting for his hair to grow back. :)

Here are a few photos:

CherylNewMex:

About Premios Juventud
"What happened with that JenCarlo snafu? The envelope apparently had the names wrong on the credits."

That was SUCH an AV moment with Eddie/JA looking helplessly at Erika/Vikki: What do I do now? I thought I heard him say "This sounds like albur* as he tried to make sense of the words on the paper in his hand -- a title and an artist he (and I) had never heard of -- while JenCarlos's song ("I love it!") played.

Someone must have pushed JenCarlos to go up and accept the award. So he got up there and said "Thanks but I don't know if I won this." Then he called the other guy up on the stage and everyone stood there trying to make the best of this gaffe.

Caray folks were fine. We had our beanies on anyway.

*albur A sort of Mexican language play often involved double entendres.

How many outfits did Eiza wear during the show? I was amazed as each time she appeared, she was wearing something different. I wonder how she had time to change?

Aribeth: Thanks for the links! I think Eduardo and Erika look great together.

Do you (or does anyone else) know if he has any new projects in the works??

Diana

Yes, domingo. Sunday Gran Final, just a guess but maybe Uni is counter-programming against Telemundo? Gran Final of La Voz Kids is at the same time.
I'm keeping mum on the content of the promo! I'm sure they'll be running it tonight.

Premios, missed the JenCarlos snafu! Saw him perform "I Love It" but unscripted moments always good.
Eiza's outfits, I can only count 3, but I noticed she was in a long white dress, completely covered up, when she sang.

Back on AV, somehow I think Joan wins out here. New baby daddy is tough to trump, and his no-commitment attitude was never really tested before.

Clara

Clara

Everyone by now knows that Eiza was one of the hosts at the Premios Juventud last night. I think that she did a great job but I have to say that lipstick--you know, that lipstick that says I can
see you coming from two blocks away
Pleeease Eiza, tone it down, OMG!!!
I think that you have been influenced by Lucifer over at CI.

Susanlynn---I thought that Eiza got plenty of words in. She held her own.

At the PJ last night, they showed some brief previews of the Amores
final. It's kind of hard to tell what is happening, the scenes go by very fast, but you see a car going off a freeway overpass. I'm sure someone died in that crash. You see the Little Orchid yelling NO!!! Could that be Anibal or Cande
[maybe both] in their final farewell? Also you see someone lying on the ground behind Jose Angel who has his gun drawn. I guess that there is violence, a dramatic ending with no simple drops of posion where someone just falls into a permanent sleep. Looks like MUST SEE TV.

Espanto's dump---My guess is that he was lying low with all his money
just waiting for his final big payoff before he leaves town to live a life of luxury.

The beat down---Espanto got a good beat down that's for sure but Dances had better be careful. KendHo still has dirt on him and could mess him up good if push comes to shove.
It is possible that Dances comes through it all unscaved and may not have to atone for his dark past
It may end up that he will only have to answer to God upon death.

Doris---I never thought that Adri
communicated with Joan via video
because he was/is a film producer,
that's brilliant.

Carlos---You presented a great plus and minus session for us. You pick Joan---It's a hard choice and
could go either way. For me---I feel sorry for Joan in a way. He has lived the jet setting lifestyle
up until now, with money, fame, women, just about everything at his fingertips. Maybe Adri's box woke him up and started him thinking about a different direction for his life. Could he change, would he change? Maybe, but is it too late and would he REALLY BE TRUE to Adri? I don't think so. I choose Vincente. It's not who is the best looking, that's superficial, It comes down to who is the best for a life long commitment and I think that Vincente has the edge there. With all things considered, Vincente wins.
the gringo

I do not want Adri to end up with YawnCarlos, but I am nervous that she might because he is Adrian' s biological dad. I will be very disappointed if that happens. : (

This will be an interesting gran final because so many things have to be resolved. I can't wait to see what happens.

When this novela ends, I will have to go back to the one Fernando is in. I just couldn't stand watching it anymore, but there's nothing else I want to watch. Then, I will just have to wait for my telenovios Marcelo and Big Ed's next novelas.

Susanlynn- try watching Marido En Alquiler with Juan Soler. I think he has such a beautiful smile! He is so warm and charming, one of my telenovios.
New Girl

Susanlynn- I second New Girl's comment on Marido en Aquiler.

I must have missed something, since Lilli isn't Jose's biological daughter, then what happened to the baby that he thought he and Cristina would have had that was replaced by Lilli ? Most of this novella I can pretty well understand, but that is one of the missing pieces.

Anon 1:01:

What happened to the baby of José Ángel and Cristina? She died at birth.

When you catch up on the next few episodes, you'll see the whole story play out. I don't want to spoil it for you here. :)
