Corazon Indomable, #37, Tuesday, 07-02-13 MariAle gets a new ally, Octavio gets wasted and the baby bump gets real

I feel like this episode had way to much useless dialog, some of what I wrote might not make much sense… but please, blame it on the story, I’m just an innocent victim :)

Yesterday…
Oblivio returned from his journey of discovery none the wiser; Maricruz Maria Alejandra Olivarez Mendoza de Narvaez still looked non-pregnant and got into fights with everybody (isn’t she the least bit worried some of this stress will affect her baby?); and everybody else went about their scheming, like they normally do.

Today…
Maria Alejandra (I would call her Maja, but that makes me think of Camila’s lovely dog) calls Tobias, wants to talk about the problems Carola is causing, like the fact that she kicked her out of the casino; also, she has no ally in her quest to defend her father against the two Cansicko Sisters. “No lo voy a permitir!” she proclaims, but she needs a power of attorney to stop Carola. Tobi warns her Don Ale won’t giver her one, so MA decides she has to tell him the truth, it’s the only way she’ll have enough authority in front of them bleached ones.
But Tobi is worried about Don Ale’s health, so MA asks him to talk to the doctor about it. And no, she won’t go back to Mexico and give it all up, she still has a card to play – telling Carola she is Don Ale’s daughter!! (Yeah, don’t tell pops the truth, but go ahead and confide in your nemesis! I’m sure Carola’s heart will melt with joy – IF she believes you, that is).

And there she goes, MA, teleporting herself to Carola’s abode (I know technically it’s just her office, but have we seen her anywhere but there?)  Tony tries to deny her access by getting handsy, but Teo comes to her rescue: he stops Tony and helps MA pass through (and OMG, but how big is her belly all of a sudden!). Then Teo warns Tony that if he ever bothers la senorita again…”te las vas a ver con migo”. This Tony guy is kind of hot, have we seen him shirtless yet? Have wee seen any of the men shirtless?

Tobi is on the phone, demanding to talk to the doctor about Don Ale.
(With all these Tony, Teo, Tobi names, keeping them straight is kind of hard)

Karim and his groupies are on the deck, when he asks Mohammed to find out if MA is on the boat, because he wants her there. But, Sire, you asked them to fire her…So, what, can’t an emir change his mind?

MA storms into Carola’s office, they start screaming at one another. Carola asks MA to get out, MA explains that she has all the rights to be there and soon she will have the law backing her up, too. Carola accuses her of being Don Ale’s amante, but advises her not get her hopes up when it comes to his fortune (unlike Raiza, say?) because he is keeping all his money for a lost daughter that he hopes to find one day. The perfect moment for MA to suggest to Carola that maybe she is that daughter.
Of course Carola doesn’t believe any of it, asks for proof, and laughs at MA for making it up just to get back in the casino. Only over her dead body, she warns, but MA laughs in her face because she already sees Carola like a cadaver (which is pretty accurate, considering Carola’s sickly face and bright, diseased eyes – maybe not a cadaver, but she’d make a good zombie).

Talking about sickly faces, in the next scene we get Raiza and Mohammed. She joyfully assures him that MA will no longer be a presence in the casino or the island, but Mohammed has bad news: Karim wants the lady back, or else he won’t return to the casino.

And just as Carola is about to throw MA out again, Raiza comes to let them both know Karim wants MA with him at the game table, because he changed his mind. Carola doesn’t agree with this, neither does MA, so maybe this could be one subject that they don’t need to fight over?

In his room at the pension Octavio is on the floor, drinking tequila from a bottle, looking all whippy eyed and sad (which makes me feel zero sympathy for him). He remembers how he defended MA the other night when Toni tried to throw her off the boat and how she said she doesn’t need defending or company to get home – sighs, drinks some more – then remembers MariCruz back in the day, telling him if he dies, she’ll die too and then begging him not to leave her.

Back with MA and her two BFFs, she repeats that she won’t join the emir. Carola thinks MA feels indomable (hey, how did you know, Carola?), like there is nothing that she can’t do and that’s why she’s saying no to the emir. MA can’t argue with that, she’s always been like this and when she hasn’t, she suffered a lot.
Also, Carola thinks that she managed to get past Toni, but Raiza explains that it was Teo the one to help her, therefore failing to obey Carola.

Ed calls Araceli, he is in the city and wants to know if she’ll join him. But Araceli wants Ed to talk to Teo first. If you are my novia, you have to listen to me, Ed says and I guess this is his way of sweet talking the ladies. But Araceli won’t change her mind, she’s not like the girls he’s used to. Ed calls her old-fashioned and a prude (tell me more, Ed, you are so swoon worthy), she doesn’t have a family, so she is free to do whatever she wants. Well, what Araceli wants is to be with him, but forever, not just for a while. Still, Ed insists that she give them a chance to get to know each other or whatever...
(As far as I am concerned they are both acting pretty stupid at this point: he wants a roll in the hay and is using all the wrong words to achieve his goal and she wants a commitment and she’s trying to force his hand into it - I’m more inclined to be on his side because some fun wouldn’t kill her, but deep down I couldn’t care less about what they do, I just hope they use birth control).

Raiza goes back to Mohammed and gives him the message that MA doesn’t want to join the emir. When he finds out, Karim is not happy, throws an “I want her with me now!” hissy fit.
Back with Carola again, Raiza finds out that MA wants to prove she is Don Ale’s daughter. She thinks this could be the truth, since they have the same last name and MA has the same age his daughter would have. Finally someone is using their brain…

Ed finds Octavio drunk in his room, asks him to take a bath and go to sleep. He helps him get into bed, takes off his boots (the shirt, Ed, the shirt!!). Octavio mumbles about being a simple pilot, not a prince or an emir, how he has a guilty conscience about MC (it was about time!).

Carola is searching for Teo on the phone, Araceli covers for him. Teo doesn’t care about Carola or losing his job, though, they’ll have enough money to live, anyway. Araceli wants to help, too, Teo is very touched by her offer, promises her that if he loses his job they will live like kings, surrounded by luxury. Araceli is rightfully surprised, but Teo asks her to be patient and she’ll see that he’s not lying. The phone rings again, Teo doesn’t answer but assumes it is Carola calling and goes to see her.

In her office, Carola reproaches Teo the fact that he helped MA. He did it to avoid the scandal and defend a woman. Yeah, but how about her orders? Carola demands to know. Well, fire me whenever you want, patrona! I don’t need this job anymore, Teo cuts her off. And whenever he will have to defend MA, he will do it, even against her orders, because he is in love with the girl. He knows he’ll never have her love, but he will defend her against anyone who tries to harm her.
Carola laughs, she doesn’t think he can keep working in the casino anymore, but Teo doesn’t care about this, either. She assures him that because of the way he looks, nobody will want him, she is the only one who cares about him (what is the history between these two? Why is it that she cares about him?). Teo admits his ugliness and agrees to keep working for her as long as she respects MA, who is only protecting Don Ale’s interests.
Carola has an explanation for the extra money she’s being accused of taking - since she’s doing all the work, she deserves it (can’t really argue with a crazy person). Don Ale would never do that to you, Teo points out, but he doesn’t care about that, anyway, he only cares about MA. And MA needs this job.
Carola still doesn’t want the girl at the casino, but Teo warns her she has to accept , or else she’ll have to deal with him. He has a menacing voice and for once, Carola seems to listen.

Karim, still obsessed with MA, decides he’ll kidnap her and take her to his country. Que locura, Sire! You will cause an international conflict, Mohammed is mortified. But Karim is so crazy obsessed, he thinks none of his other women are as intelligent as his latest tormento. He is barking at the wrong tree, though, because Mohammed thinks women are only good for providing companionship, not for witty conversation. Karim is not satisfied with only that (a modern emir, then, except for the kidnapping part, of course). He is even thinking about letting all his other women go. Mohammed tries to change his mind, but Karim insists he’ll kidnap MA, because she’s made him lose his calm, so he has to have her at his feet.

Back at her house, MA decides that she needs an ally, which would know her true origin and want to help in her war against Carola and Raiza.

Araceli is packing her bag, still not sure about what to do. When Teo comes back from talking with Carola he gets upset when he sees that Araceli will be going to Mexico City, after all, but she promises she’ll only be gone for a few days.

The next morning piloto Ed goes to pick up Octavio, who can barely keep his eyes open (does he plan to fly a plane with that hangover???) Ed asks him to forget about Maricruz and the woman from the island. Octavio can’t let it go, though, MA is so aggressive with him, so hateful, when all he ever did was help her (make those tiny brain cells work, Octavio...) Her corazon indomable reminds him of Maricruz (and her face, her voice, her everything, you big pile of useless idiocy!). Ed suggests that maybe Octavio should ask to be transferred to another route, so he doesn’t have to go back to the isle again, always be reminded of his Maricruz.
But Octavio keeps insisting that his MC and this new and improved version look so much alike, they have to be the same person (slowly, boy, don’t want that pretty head to explode with the revelation); he even considers the possibility that maybe she changed in the time he hasn’t seen her!! So why is she acting like she doesn’t know him, then? (I guess we couldn’t expect more than that … the fact that he made the connection between MC and MA is pretty huge for him).
Ed thinks Octavio is still in love with MC. Simply put, this might be correct, provided there was any love to begin with.

Teo is with MA, telling her Araceli is leaving for Mexico. How sad, what a bad decision, her soul is forever lost, MA doesn’t say but it is all implied. She asks him for help with Carola. He doesn’t care if Carola fires him, he has plenty of money, so he’s more than willing to help. She needs to keep going to the casino. Teo suggests the power of attorney, too, but MA can’t do that, it would mean telling Don Ale a truth that might kill him. And finally, she tells Teo that she is the daughter that Don Ale has been searching for. Teo is very surprised, asks her if she has any proof. Yes, she does, but she has to talk to Don Ale about this first. So what Teo has to do is find a way to impose her presence in the casino.

Back in Mexico City, we get to see Solita again. The poor girl is very sick, Justa finds her feverishly shaking in her bed. The maid knows this has nothing to do with her pregnancy, she sees death on Solita’s face (how can you see death on someone’s face??) After we lose endless minutes with Tobias and Justa talking about Solita’s mysterious sickness and about calling a doctor, he finally arrives, examines Solita and says she is very sick, indeed.
Tobias tells Don Ale they are taking Solita to the hospital, to check up on her pregnancy. They won’t tell Maricruz about it, for now, they don’t want to make her worry before they absolutely have to.

Now at the airport, Ed calls Araceli, tells her he is on the island and she lets him know that she’ll be coming to Mexico with him. Someone’s gonna get some…

Alone on the boat, Teo is thinking about his misfortune, loving a woman that will never love him back. He has two roads ahead of him, the good and the bad, but neither will help him fill his empty heart. He cries.

MA is alone, in her apartment, for the first time showing some pregnancy related difficulty while moving. She absolutely needs to see the real gains of the casino but how can she do that if Carola won’t help her?
Just then Mohammed comes for a visit, asks her about her ambitions in life, because the emir can offer her everything her heart desires, she just needs to ask.
MA seems tempted…

Thanks for the recap. Im sure it reads better than watching. And it reads as such a ridiculous story, I am putting on my extra strength beanie now.
I am in Amsterdam right now and I'm on my way to Germany, so I won't be able to comment. But I will try to keep up and read as much as possible.

Have fun in Amsterdam, and a good weather, too. That is always kind of tricky around here!

How you made such a great and interesting recap out of the endless slock last night amazes me. Except for the new issue with poor Solita (can we cut that girl a break?), it was total filler.

"Have we seen any of the men shirtless? " Yeah, what's with that. A couple gratuitous minutes might liven things up, ya think?

I get chuckles how people in this TN just jump right into "Hello, my name is" to " You are the love of my life..." And of course, you just have to have every red-blooded male, well except for Ed, falling in love with the heroine. Geess......

If Solita loses the baby, what was the point then of getting her pregnant? Or will this be a way to get MC back to Don Ale's? And then certain people follow....etc etc etc.

Note to self: What's the airline these two work for because I NEVER want to fly with it.

Safe travels Cathyx!

Adriana- Great recap of a set-up episode. I do appreciate the fact that Tav finally feels guilty about how he treated MC, and is closer to making a connection between MC and MA. Funny that just one episode ago, Ed was suggesting they were the same person and Tav smacked down that idea because the change was too radical in too little time. Today, it's Tav suggesting it, and Ed shooting it down. I wish these guys would make up their minds.

Daisynjay- I wouldn't call what Karim feels for MA, love. Heck, HE hasn't even called it love. He wants her, and he always gets what he wants, so he'll do whatever it takes to have her.

I was sort of relieved to hear that MA is the object of Teo's affections and not Aracely, because that situation has seemed really creepy to me. Unless he thinks he's in love with them both! I did like Teo standing up to Carola. I too wonder what their history is. What does he have on her, or what tie do they have that she won't fire him outright? Even Raiza doesn't seem to know, since she was urging Carola to fire him earlier.

No one has really raised an eyebrow when Teo claims he doesn't need that stupid job since he has, or will have, tons of money. Hello! Where did he get this money?

No one noticed MA's sudden pregnancy bump either. Granted, the dress had a high waist and was in a dark color, but these people really aren't observant.

"Consicko sisters." LOL! Good one Adriana.

Continuing on what we were chatting about yesterday, here is a pic of a few of the current leading men of Televisa, hanging out together: https://twitter.com/DulceM_Lucero/status/352043457348517890/photo/1

Wow Vivi..you just made my day!!

Thanks for the great recap Adriana!

I haven't had time to watch the episode yet but looks interesting.
How long do you take is for Carola to run to Don Ale for a confirmation of MA's identity? I hope there's gonna be a doctor nearby.

What's with Solita now, what happened to her?

I can't beleive Tav is connecting the dots at this rate he'll be the one figuring ot MA-s true identity first :)

Boring filler episode, except for Solita. Poor thing, the best thing would be for her to lose the baby. Someone needs to find out the truth about something soon bec I'm starting to get tired...

!Jesus Cristo! Oblivio (DA) is not even a convincing drunk. Pity the poor passengers. Ed probably wants him to transfer so he doesn't have to deal with the imbécil.

It might be this airline

http://bvibeacon.com/2/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3357:an-open-letter-to-liat&catid=659:commentary-april-18-2013

MA telling Carola that she is Ale's hija, of course she is not going to get on the phone pronto to Ale with that bit of info!

What better way can Ed & Aracely get to know each other than in bed?

Been awhile since we have had hospital scene.

Adriana, thanks for giving us something to smile about, since the characters gave us hints and threats, but not so much action.

We haven't seen Oblivio shirtless, but Ed appeared in a towel not so long ago.

Wondering who does MariAle's hair? Does she stop by the salon or did she learn some fab hair styling skills?

What a great recap of a "meh" episode!

Some jewels:

and OMG, but how big is her belly all of a sudden! (Indeed she was popping out all over last night.)

– maybe not a cadaver, but she’d make a good zombie. (Just remember the double tap, MA)

I just hope they use birth control. (Ditto with a capital D)

a modern emir, then, except for the kidnapping part, of course.

Cathyx-Safe travels and viel spaß!

Daisynjay-"What's the airline these two work for because I NEVER want to fly with it" LOL!!!

Vivi-Thank you for sharing. OMG what a bunch of pretty!

I feel horrible for Solita and I wonder where they are going with this story. Ditto what Daisynjay voiced--what was the point if she loses the baby?

LatinaInMD--I saw your post about ratings in the other thread. It's interesting that La TempesBAD is #2 and Mentir is so dang low.

Adriana Noel, thanks for this great recap. I also could care less about Eddy and Araceli but I loved this line:

" Someone’s gonna get some… "

Sooo... a road trip to the middle east for Maricruz?

Carlos

I think if Solita loses the baby the point of her getting pregnant would be that at least now everyone knows she was violated...since Solita is/was unable to tell that info. Hopefully now with the sign language lessons the truth will come out.

Thank you Adriana

I don't think that it was a boring episode at all, there is a lot of positioning going on. The chessmen
are lineing up on the chessboard.

Bad episode? No, It would only be a bad episode if Maricruz was kidnapped and put on a plane to Saudi Arabia. If that happened, Octavio would have to fly there to rescue her. [I know, I'm a dreamer]

Adriana---Consicko sisters--I love it.

Daisynjay---What's the name of the airline these two work for because I never want to fly it. LOL
Have you noticed that they never show the airlines name? I wonder why.

Right Carlos---On the way to Saudi Arabia veil and all. This guy is obsessed, he won't give up. Carlos you are usually right, I'm surprised that you didn't see that.

The big question is, who will spill the beans to Don Ale?
the gringo

Excellent recap Andriana Noel! you had great zingers:

"Tell me more, Ed, you are so swoon worthy"

"The shirt, Ed, the shirt!!"

"Make those tiny brain cells work,octavio..."

Totally had me cracking up.

Although Tav and Ed can be such doofuses, it tickles me to no end how besties they are and totally act like it (Ed helping Tav in his drunken state). They carpool, hangout, go to the ballet, gossip at work, etc. They're relationship is very amusing/cute to me.

Have no idea where Solita's storyline is going either, but I wish that don ale took a more personal interest in her. Kind of sad how MC left her with somewhat stangers, especially when she's expecting a baby.

jlk

jlk- I thought it was cute too how Ed took care of Tav in his drunken state. He took equally good care of him after he got shot and had to be operated on, and also got him the job. He may be a shallow dude/cad when it comes to women, but Ed is a good friend to Tav. He's taking better care of Tav than MC is taking care of her little sister Solita right now.

Ed and Tav? It's a bromance.

Dang! That theme song just stayed with me all day...

"Déjalo ir...no hay que sufrir de esta manera
Porque ¡no vale la pena!

Very loose translation:
"Let him go...you don't have to suffer this way
Because it's not worth it!

Did anyone else notice that Eddy was wearing white shoes and white belt last night? Could he have declared himself a loser any more eloquently?

Carlos

Did anyone else notice that Eddy was wearing white shoes and white belt last night?

How could they be missed? So.very.bright.

I was having Doc Flippy flashbacks.

Good one Carlos. This is also the guy who wore jeans to the ballet, so he's clearly not as sophisticated as his tuxedo would have us believe.

Kelly

Adriana - I have to admit to getting hooked on this, despite all the beanie-tightening occasions (most of the air time).

BTW, OT, for you Adriana: On this side of the pond, CdlF is back doing his Ford Fusion commercials! His hair is a little longer than in AB, but oh, is he ever cute. He's actually driving in some escape kind of caper from an underground garage.

P.S. If Carola does call Don Ale asking for confirmation of MA's parentesco, he will just laugh it off, believing that it was a ploy MA used to get into Carola's books. He won't need a doctor for that.

I'm more worried about Solita and the chango moving to the La Isla Dorada house with no one to watch them while MC/MA is busy at the casino and getting into everyone else's business (Arecely, The Emir, Teo).

Speaking of the emir, I don't think any self-respecting Arab would trim his beard like that. He'd either be clean shaven or have more than a metrosexual 10 o'clock shado.

Oh, and please, let's rehab Tony and get him to work for the good guys--and remove his shirt once or twice. He's gorgeous to look at. Does anyone know who the actor is (remember, I don't look at Wikipedia until the whole tn is over)?

Anita, thanks for the CdlF info, I knew he works with Ford but I haven't seen the commercials, yet ( next stop: youtube!
Love your avatar, btw.

Have you noticed how we always complain that the guys are never shown without their shirts on? Could it be that we are obsessed? Me thinks not, it's just that we've been spoiled by other tns... That being said, drunk Octavio's remordimientos would have been so much more "realistic" if, in the midst of his pain, he would have ripped his shirt open...and more dramatic, too.
Just saying

Vivi: It's creepy if Teo is in love with Araceli but not creepy with MA? Since Ara is 20 and MA is 19, why would it be creepier with the older one than the younger one? To me, it's creepy either way. Am I misunderstanding your comment? Just curious.

AdNo--Like your avatar, too....

When I mentioned Solita and chango at the Isla place, it was, what, no servants in the whole place? Who swabs the floor, dusts, makes the beds, etc. Solita could do all of that, but I'd be fearful of her trying to use a microwave oven.

Anon- It's creepy to me because she lives in his house and is totally dependent on him financially, and they keep mentioning he is like a brother to her. The power dynamics and near incestuous nature of it makes it creepy. MA has much more power in their dynamic and some distance from him.

Vivi - Ah, got it. Good point.
Anon

@Anita - The actor who plays Tony is named Antonio Fortier.

LatinainMd--Gracias. I will keep track of him!!!

I like to get a discussion going on the "dumbest" Galan in Telenovel history (at least within the last 5 years or so). Octavia seems to be in the top five. Any comments on others who may rank higher and why?

Morse
Really tough to beat Oblivio. Probably best to start with Mejia novelas.
FELS was the worst novela & although the Reyes hermanos were ridiculous at times they were mental giants next to Oblivio.

Interesting topic.
