PEAM # 91 - July 15,2013 - Not Sex but Plenty of Lies and at Least One Video Tape

Caballo de madera por Agustín Cruz Prudencio de San Agustín de las Juntas, Oaxaca, Mexico

After so long away, I may be somewhat confused but not any more than the characters I see.  Feel free to chime in with corrections and clarifications.  I can only concentrate on the well fitted shirt that Jesús is straining to its very fiber… oops…  back to the plot.

After an interminable delay (how many episodes?) Jesús is about to face Alma at the door of her suite where she is pouting, planning, whimpering… in beautiful Cancun. And we get that famous "Que Hace Aquí" phrase from Alma.  He confesses that Chatita, Patricia and her Papa all knew where she was so big secret!

Chatita yells for Panfilo when Mari comes in to him and is friendly with her Papa then Chatita enters handing the paper over to Panfilo who seems to be having a stroke or loss of sight with hallucinatory medical film strips. Are his eyes worse than the memory losses that Chatita is having?  The perfect couple, they are at least kind with each other.

Another perfect couple, Sebastian and Susana discuss that Alma has run him out of the house so he can't remain calm without upset as Susana advises.

Perfect couple #3 is surrounded in smoke, Fernando and "Natasha" discuss his abiding admiration and desire to date her pronto.  She manages to cow him into backing out with the hope of seeing her tomorrow.  He confesses love.  Outside the Jessica, aka the toddler missing her teletubbies is cranking at Fernando and Y. Xochi tells Y that Fernando is in love with her, or at least with Natasha.

Couple #4, or just half of it is Vero whining over Jesus's disappearance just when she was on the verge of conquering him for once and all or so she imagines…

Patricia and Renato (who is this cutie?) compose the next coupling with Pati lying her head on Renato's lap and telling him all of her love problems.  Like bemoaning that her boobies need an operation (plus or minus? can't tell) but she has no money for such frivolities. Classic PatiCake derives all the enjoyment out of her position on the hunk on the couch while swimming in her self pity.

Well the strained shirt and jeans did not get Jesús entry into the suite… yet.  He gazes at the photo of her and she yells and protests against the door.  She accuses his him of being a liar, she can't just let him in when he is now responsible for everything bad that has happened her just because he did not tell her right away like a best friend should.

Panfilo argues with Chatita and Maricela that he is not suffering from diabetic problems of the retina while we see behind his eyes that he cannot focus on anything.  Chatita scolds with love that Panfilo has been ignoring what he knows he has to do about careful diet and avoiding sweets.  She is really worried about him and Maricela is being uncharacteristically sweet, guess I was gone too long.

Pink jacketed Rogelio calls Fernando who is annoyed that his brother is calling ALL THE TIME and disturbing his reveries over his new crush on Natashaaaaa.  He chirps about his love of Natasha the new slinky singer in his life, but also reveals with a sly grin that Alma is in Cancun and Jesús just left to go find her. Rogelio is left with smoke and curls coming out of his head, nothing changed here.

Alma finally opens the door when Jesus says he will just go home.  She accuses him again of not telling her he knew that Patricia and Rogelio were lovers.  He manages to get that strong arm in the door as a wedge until she opens up, if not the Kimono at least the door to the suite…

Rogelio fights with his doggie and accuses him of preferring Jesús too. I am not sure why he sets off all the alarms and upsets the guards/chauffeurs.  Rogelio doesn't make sense to me when I have been watching all the episodes and certainly not now. Is everyone on suicide watch? Or is this house arrest?

Jesus begins to explain the unexplainable about why he didn't tell Alma about the treachery of PatiCake and Rogelio finally he suggests it would be more private and much more comfortable if he continues this very long story in the comfort of her suite.  She softens enough to agree.  He sends a brief thanks to the heavens and the Virgin that he is at least going inside.

Elias knocks at Vero's door, actually it is his bedroom door.  When did she get back into Elias' house. She cries, and Elias says he knows how she feels crying over the loss of Jesús when she asked him for a divorce.  He tells her that he is worried about Valentina who is very confused about her mother's constant melt-downs.  Vero looks concerned but continues to melt some more.

Alma and Jesus continue yelling/discussing/crying over the long list of Rogelio's peccadilloes with Patricia and Jessica.  Jesus protests that he set out to prove that Rogelio was betraying her with Patirica but he was unable to get enough proof and didn't want to disappoint Alma with an unprovable story especially if Rogelio could wiggle out of the truth so easily. She moves on to the Jessica lap dance story including Patricia on the tape, Jesús says she was jealous.  Then Alma starts to cry about her father insisting that she go through with the wedding to Rogelio even when she had declared to Rogelio and her father that she didn't love him.  She cries about the treachery of her own father in tricking her into marrying Rogelio for his own gain when he (Papa) is the person she loves most in life.  Finally she is crying softer so Jesus can begin to show her sympathy and move in for some gentle hugs.

Elias tells Vero that he is indignant with how she is so egotistical that she can carry out all her wild plans while confusing a small girl who doesn't understand why her mother is dragging her from her home to Jesús's home and back again while she tries to manipulate everyone.

It looks like the sunlight is coming back and Alma is making Jesus promises that they will never lie to each other. She has a question, what about that moment with Veronica coming to him naked in his room there other night that she told Alma about.  Jesus assures her that he left and absolutely nothing happened between him and Vero. They smile.

Rogelio is still fuming and now insists that Fernando has to go seek Alma and Jesús in Cancun.

Pati and her new buddy part company with thanks for his patient listening . He turns to go then turns back to plant a passionate kiss on her lips.  She likes it but tries not to.

Confession hour is not over with Jesús and Alma, he then explains his dealings with the police and how the fraud with the money laundering is about to be directly laid at Rogelio's feet. Alma is further amazed at her perfect fiancé and his puzzling activities.  He traces how the packet of money that he was arrested with back when he came home to Mexico seeking Valentina can be traced back to Rogelio.

The ungrateful and ungracious Paty accuses Renato of taking advantage of her delicate state.  She pushes him out but he must think it isn't sincere since he grins to himself outside her door.

Jesus and Alma continue being sympathetic and when she warms to how much being with Jesus has calmed and reassured her as it always does. He throws in that she should call her Papa so he doesn't worry.  Then he calls her Papa and tells him that he has found Alma and she is fine.  Papa wants to talk with her but Jesus has to tell him that she doesn't want to talk to him now.  Has he financed Jesus's trip? He tells him to continue taking care of his daughter.  Off the phone Susana hears that Alma has been found by Jesús. It seems Susana is more in favor of the Jesus-Alma union and perhaps Papa still hopes for a financial, errrr I mean romantic reconciliation with Rogelio.  In your dreams, old man, not even…

Alma tells Jesus finally about how her father only worshiped his boy child and had such plans for her brother who was the apple of her father's eye but he died when she was twelve and it was all her fault.  Jesus tells her no, it isn't. She was definitely not responsible.

Maricela is testing her Papa's blood and crying about how high his insulin level is.  She has totally changed?

Alma shows a bit of spunk and righteous anger as she goes on to tell how her father betrayed her mother and destroyed the family while insisting that she marry the man of His choice for his convenience not for her choice.

Next time:  fun in the sun for Alma and Jesus while they have romantic water adventures while pledging best friendship forever.  And pancakes are being hurt in a scene with Rogelio and the now released Uri who was apparently working out in the gym everyday that he was in jail.  sheeesshh I only got a little kissy facing so take it away PEAM TEAM, we need action and sizzle!

Good to have you back with this fabulous recap! Yes, Mari and her Papa Panfilo have reconciled a bit. He must be having diabetic retinopothy (sp) cause his sugar is way too high. I know Chatita feeds him healthily, so he must be munching on junk when away from her. I hope Chatita and Mari keep a better eye on him.

I can't believe Vero is still whining and crying over Chucho. She needs to straighten up for poor Valentina. I still think that Elias and Chucho ought to share custody of Val, I think Val would be way better off.

Renato, the guy with Patymelt, was a photog that Xochi found to take pics of Patymelt and Rogue before the wedding when they went off to Acapulco. He has had the hots for Paty ever since. Alma still hasn't seen the pics but she has seen that video.

I am glad that Chucho and Alma are all straightened out now and can commence with getting, er, busy ; )

Why in the world does Rogue want to send Ferny to spy on Alma and Chucho in Cancun, when Alma clearly told him she doesn't love Rogue? I think it's cause he wants her now that she doesn't love him. He is an idiot. I hope Ferny doesn't see a thing.

So what is Xochi gonna do with Ferny? I wonder. Jessie should stop chasing Ferny and realize it is over already. She would be fab with Cardenas.

Can't wait to see tomorrow what Uri is up to now! I am worried for Chucho.

Wow, thanks for the clarifications, Mads. I didnt recognize Renato as the photographer at all. Gee this will be complex!

Thanks for the recap Cheryl. I'm glad Mads filled you in on what you've missed (basically most plot point haven't changed that much but characters like Mari have become nicer).

Yeah Elias for giving it to Vero. Now get full custody and keep your daughter away from the unfortunate woman, who happen to give birth to her.

Mads - I don't know what Xochi is doing with Fer besides yanking him around. I hope Chucho and Alma can have fun before the Uri anvil strikes.

Glad to have you back! I enjoyed reading about the couples.
Maybe the Ice Princess, Vero will be turned on by Elais' assertiveness. Or is she going to link up with Rogelio. Ewww!,,
I happy to see Marisela act like a caring person. Wow, Chatita seems to be the catalyst that is righting all of the wrongs with the exception of the videotape. What doesn't she miss and she has time to sell Avon.
The Xochy/ Natasha storyline - right now has gotten silly. How is she going to pull off coffee or is Ferny that dense?
ITA- Madelaine - Jessica needs. To mind her business and run after Cardenas!
I too could not focus on anything but the smedium shirt that Jesus was wearing. ;-). Take about a heat wave!!!!

Thanks for the recap and welcome back.

Paty and Renato: I think that Paty was recounting her life as an ugly duckling teen, with amongst other issues nearsightedness and bad teeth? Notably, she was bemoaning the troubles of having had excessively large chest, leading to back trouble and somehow contributing to social isolation. I'm pretty sure there was something about breast reduction surgery and wearing boys clothes? could she have also referred to general overweight, or was that more about her chest? Renato didn't understand how a large chest could be a problem to which Paty said something to the effect of "cause you're a guy." I think Renato asked how she paid for the "work" and she didn't answer. Was there some hint there in her hesitancy that the money was from dishonorable or illegal sources?
Could someone with better Spanish verify?

Also, on the retinopathy, it is unlikely that a few weeks or months of better nutrition from Chatita would do much to avert damage from years of uncontrolled diabetes. Good blood sugar control may slow the progress, but if things have gotten to the point where amputation of his foot/leg was a possibility, the vascular problems in his eyes are also likely to be advanced. moreover, in general once the vascular damage has manifested in vision changes, the already damaged blood vessels in the eye will continue to worsen vision (perhaps more gradually) even with strict glucose control. Not to say that he might not be also cheating with candy, soda (or just that there's too much white rice or flour in even his current Chatita prepared diet), in which case the damage would get much worse much faster. Would that a switch to healthier eating could quickly and dramatically reverse years of damage.

PS, did anyone else have trouble accessing the recap for PEAM 90? All I could get was the title. On my mobile I got the other shows' recaps, but on my desktop all I got was the #90 title and I couldn't get anything else at all.

Thanks for the recap! I must say, I did enjoy the "i've been away...what the frack is happening here?!?!" perspective. Highlights the absurdity. And of course some good teasing of our deserving telamiguis, also.

So. Paticakes did say that she was very fat and ugly as a kid, bad teeth, unibrow, and by the time she was 13 she was super busty and the boys gave her a hard time and she begged her parents for reduction surgery but they wouldn't go for it. But eventually she got it done herself, didn't care to say how she came up with the money, and dieted and exercised and transformed herself. We know she burned through her inheritance. Is that what she spent it on?

We also learned that Alma's brother, the boy child Sebastard always wanted, was autistic and so Sebastian was embarrassed by him and hid him. And Alma was apparently taking care of him but was distracted when he somehow died. Oy.

All right, that's enough character development for now...it's snogging time. Autocorrect tried to change that to sniffing. Now I understand why we always get weird sniffing scenes in telenovelas .. the writers intend snogging, autocorrect changes it, and the director and actors are like, "well, okay.. "

Cheryl, thanks for your fantastic recap. On to tonight!

Cheryl, welcome back and this was a great recap!

I think Mari's charade getting revealed by Elias was the best thing to happen to her. Seems she's more accepting of who she is and her father. They should move to the complex, and then Chatita can help him while Mari is at work. And love can bloom for C&P. Mari can stop buying all the crap for her masquerade of being rich, so they can afford a nice little place.

Like all the indignation flying last night. Susanna giving it to Sebastard ( yikes, every bit that comes out of his mouth or we find out about him just makes him more and more disgusting) and YES! Elias blasting Vero over her antics around Val. But I swear, there is never going to be a lightbulb moment for her on that. She's too self-centered. Since Elias is legally Val's dad, he needs to get custody NOW! And then he can pull Chucho in....

Who can take a day to romp with Alma. Wonder if we get a FC shirtless moment out of this? Then she can hit up the lawyers for an annulment. I'll enjoy seeing Seb's head explode.

What the blazes was with Jessica last night? That was just stupid. For every step forward, she takes three back. What is with these women who keep chasing after someone who obviously doesn't want them? The Xochi/Ferny "hoop-up?" should be cute, but it will be sad to see Julio's bubble burst. We need some extra nice simple women in the plot. ( Can do without the likes of Discua and Marta and there wax-work faces/bodies---just sayin').

Seems we have a recurring theme going in this TN about the affects of bad vs. good parenting and childhoods in everyone's reveals. Who's next?

Daisynjay

Seriously---these numeric verifications are getting smaller and smaller...and fuzzier. I feel like Panfilo trying to focus these out!!

Cheryl- I also loved your out of the loop perspective on this episode. Everyone has already clarified the fuzzy areas for you, but you did a great job, even with being away for a while.

I am so glad Alma and Jesus got past the misunderstandings. Now, can we finally get the romance going? Please!

ChrisInFL- Yes. If you are using Explorer on a computer, you can't see anything on the main page under the last PEAM recap title for some odd reason. But, if you use another browser like Firefox, or a tablet or smart phone, then you can see all the other recaps under it.

I really enjoyed this recap! Muchas gracias! And, like the other Anon who posted, I wasn't able to read the recap for #90 either. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Vivi for the info on #90. I've tried, but it won't come up on my smartphone either.

I was thinking the same thing about cutie Renato, the photographer & could only find a name

Michelle Lopéz

We do need to know about a future galán, after all FC is 46.

I hadn't noticed Patricia's last name before, Zorrilla, how appropriate!

Thanks, Cheryl! Yes, being out of town for a few weeks doesn't seem to have seriously taken you out of the loop - despite some of the hefty revelations of the past week. Everything unfolds in slow-motion and rehashed in excruciating detail.

Still, it's disorienting when you turn on the TV a few minutes late and think you've mistakenly tuned in to a rerun of "House." That inside-the-eye thing was bizarre. (Er, I mean it was funny! Yeah, that's it! Because it's a comedy! Dad's going blind! Ahahahaha! Ugh.)

One bit of detail about Alma and her brother: apparently she wasn't supposed to let him go outside, so it was a combination of this unauthorized action AND letting him out of her sight briefly that contributed to her death. So I guess there was an accident. But I don't see why Sebastard should hold that against Alma, since the boy was obviously an embarrassment to him.

Also: Jesus mentioned to Alma that he forgot to tell Delia he was going out of town. I don't know if that will matter or not. I would think D would be reasonable about it if he told her now, but you KNOW that if he DOESN'T tell her, this will be the ONE TIME she needs to see him in a hurry and he'll get caught with his pants down. So to speak.

TJ - you just taught me a word, "smedium." LOL!!

Tonight: I hate to see pancakes being abused. I'm sure Yuri will pay dearly! (In my recap, at least!)

Thanks, Cheryl! Much fun!

Friday's recap was problematic because of computer issues, and the original was in Word, but if anyone wants the full text just email me and I will send it to you. My gmail address is "fish don't sleep," without the quotes and spaces, of course.

P.S. Jesus did call Delia from Cancun, and she was understanding.

Cheryl, Your recap was fabulous. I too enjoyed your "What the bleep?" attitude aabout what you hd missed.

Jésus did tell Alma that he forgot to call & get permission for this trip -- but then he called Delia & she let him off.

Now that I think of it there was an indication of Panfilo's ignoring his good health advice. The night when Marisela took Elias to show him her real house panfilo camae in with muffins. Elias snagged one & declared it rico. But since as far as Panfilo knew he was the only one at the house he must have meant to eat those highly sugared treats himself.

Oh and Cheryl -- one more thing about Vero. She has a new plan. She & Rogelio have sworn to help one another break up Alma & Jésus. So she doesn't think all is lost -- she's going to keep on until (she thinks) she finally lands him.

Oh! I missed the phone call to Delia. Thanks!

Thanks, Cheryl. Your 'what the?' comments were hilarious.

Julia, so glad you figured out why so many tns have sniffing scenes. Autocorrect indeed. There are many times we would all love to autocorrect a scene.

We're exactly halfway through, right. So I guess we can expect some hot times between Alma & Jésus. The short and sweet interlude in the middle of the run which gives us and them fond memories as they are cruelly torn apart in the second half of the show, only to be reunited at about episode 178. Wouldn't it be nice if they could break with tradition like they did in UFCS where they let the main couple get married about 2/3 of the way though. Then we spent the last part of the show working on the subplots.

At the very least, we can hope for a fresh batch of happy memories to come back as flashbacks for the next 90 episodes. The old ones were getting a little tired.

Meanwhile, Eli will have to continue clinging to that popcorn fight with Vero and Valentina, because it's still the only happy family memory he has!

Welcome back Cheryl! Loved your "Que the heck??" approach to this episode. It does seem like some of the characters have done an about face, doesn't it? How interesting that we have gotten some background info on Paty and Alma. Now what about Rogelio and Fer? Will we find out the what and why behind those two brothers?

Julie, ITA that we need some new memories! Also, a new song for Xochi.

Thanks Cheryl! Love your recaps and welcome back.

Ah Cheryl...I've missed your naughty sense of humor.

"At last Alma opens the door if not her kimono....!

What a great line. Didn't see this, but would have been mightily disappointed that Chucho's tight shirt didn't come off and that kimono too. What's with these kids talking all night?! Jeesh!

Julia--loved your sniffing vs. snogging experience. It does indeed explain a lot of the scripts.

Cheryl, thanks so much. Good comments everyone. Appreciated the diabetic analysis as well.

Chris in Fl...are you a medical professional?--doctor, nurse practitioner? You sure know your stuff!

Oh right, I forgot to add my admiration to the sniffing/snogging theory. Gosh, that totally makes sense.

And did I see CENOTES in the preview????

The limpid pool! The limpid pool!

Was Pato rich at one time? I thought she grew up poor and the rich childhood was just a story she told?

Also, in the US at least, since Jesus did not give up parental rights to Elias, the adoption could be voided.

Nanette

(I had to look up "CENOTE"; I thought it was an acronym!)

Oh yes, a swimmin' hole! The stuff that flashbacks are made of! (Snogging, sniffing, swimming, whatever!)

Prepare to see blurry, pixellated flesh!! Woohoooo!

I'm also on board with getting a new song for Xochi. Maybe something about a man accidentally falling in love with a woman he hates!

"And did I see CENOTES in the preview????"

Since this TN likes to give us predictable clichés, I would think a cenote scene was absolute mandatory!!! And with slo-motion swimming and rising out of the pool...yep.

Wish we had the cliché of a character getting smacked by a moving vehicle soon...maybe that's only the dramas. I can think of a few I would suffer thru another bingo square to watch get airborne.

Daisynjay

Daisy, the bingo square for "car accident" was awarded for Jesus's original crash with Uri, even though he was on a bicycle. And I think we've had "kissing in water" (Rogue & Paty) but not "kissing on beach." For my part, I'm waiting for a gun to go off, and of course for the ever-anticipated stairway tumble. ;}

I'll be we get "kissing on beach" tonight. There seems to be a notable lack of stairways of doom in this show though.

Maybe Xochitl will get back at Fernando for calling her ugly by encouraging his love for Natasha, taking him back to his place as Natasha, saying that she's going to slip into something more comfortable, then reappearing as Xochitl with her lips pursed for a kiss!

Well, Vero's house has a staircase -- and there's no shortage of people who'd like to push her down it.

Limpid POOLS! We are so overdue for a refreshing dip...even usually-cool Alma has looked like she is genuinely sweltering the last couple episodes at the humid beach...she is glowing and her hair has gone all wavy and damp-looking.

Rogue's house also has a staircase, and no shortage of people who would like to push SOMEONE down it. Alma's PENTHOUSE (never to be called an apartment, always with the emphasis on the last syllable) has a staircase.

Anon, Great plot for Xochi!

Sounds like I missed all those wonderful staircases. I wouldn't mind seeing Rogue take a tumble and then have him be stuck in bed with two broken legs or something like that. He would absolutely hate it.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments and factoid additions today. I am entertaining a wonderful young man who carves fanciful animals from Oaxaca who is here in New Mexico for the ¡Viva Mexico! Mercado this coming weekend at el Rancho de las Golondrinas on the south side of Santa Fe. We toured Old Town in Abq. today since he rarely gets to visit the places where he comes to sell his artistic pieces. I will post a picture of his caballito that he brought to me.

Cheryl, how fun for you! I can't wait to see the picture of the caballito. You always seem to be involved in such cool activities.

Very cool Cheryl!

A very fanciful caballito indeed!

And photogenic, too!

Beautiful caballito!
