Qué Bonito Amor #66 (Mex 98.2-99) Monday 7/15/13

Capitulo 98, Part 2 & 99: The Calm Before the Next Storm

Lo del pasado

Wendy continues to be a brat and walks out of the discussion. Jorge Alfredo decides to leave. Justo speculates that Amalia will ultimately accept him rather than lose Maria.

Lo de nuevo

Jorge Alfredo's Room: Amalia vows to defend Maria from Ruben.

Back of Strip Joint: Fabian talks on his cell to someone about straightening Ruben out about his obsession.

Justo's Hotel Room: Justo gives the heirloom ring to Jorge Alfredo, certain that Maria is deserving.

Mirna's Place: Aventurero gets dressed while Concho threatens to fire both of them. They argue with him. He exits in a huff, but Mirna has a weapon.

Justo's Hotel Room: Justo expresses his admiration of Jorge Alfredo for his survival in this situation where many others would have given up and failed. Jorge Alfredo credits Maria for this and Justo tells him he promises to fight with his life to prove his innocence so he can be feliz para siempre with Maria.

Mirna's Place: She plays the ownership card by threatening to reveal that half of the bar actually belongs to Amalia.

Jorge Alfredo's Room: The guy Susanito talked to delivers flowers with a message. That place wants to keep him on the payroll. Jorge Alfredo enters the room and gives the roses to Maria. He explains to her that Ruben caved to the demand not to denounce him. Because he and Justo can make life miserable for him. They kiss, then Maria tells him that Amalia asked her to return home and she agreed. So I guess no make-up sex.

Mendoza Apt: At the questioning of her other daughters, Amalia says she would prefer that Maria's baby be a girl. Roddy gets mushy over Paloma, then Justo arrives.

Jorge Alfredo's Room: Maria promises to go to El Lay with Jorge Alfredo no matter what he has to face because he should not have to face it alone.

Mendoza Apt: Amalia finally finds her manners, but Justo can't stay; he has to return to El Lay tonight. He gets her to admit she has accepted Jorge Alfredo.

Jorge Alfredo's Room: Jorge Alfredo serenades Maria. The guys from that bar are his backup. After they leave he proposes officially and gives her the ring. She accepts. Besos.

JNTR Office: Mirna and Concho argue, then Lourdes enters.

Mendoza Apt: Amalia accepts (but we'll see);.

Jorge Alfredo's Room: Jorge Alfredo vows that they will never be parted no matter what happens.

JNTR: Concho threatens to fire both Mirna and Aventurero. Lourdes almost smirks over the shoe being on the other foot.

Oscar's Apt: Aventurero has told him and is asking his help.

JNTR: Mirna tells him to finish his business with Lourdes and she will talk to him later. After she exits Lourdes realizes that Mirna has something to hold over his head.

Oscar's Apt: Oscar tells him he should look for another job; after all he was boinking the boss's mistress!

Restaurant: Justo and Amalia dine together. Justo is impressed by her “authenticity.” She tells him she feels bad for the loss of his wife. He speaks of the void and she tells him he needs to be strong; he's about to have grandchildren!

Mendoza Apt: He has escorted her back and is bidding her goodnight when Jorge Alfredo and Maria arrive. Justo makes a comment about Maria reviving his son's soul. The two men step out and Maria tells Amalia Jorge Alfredo is going to talk to Concho. The two sisters are impressed with the ring and Paloma rhapsodizes about the day she will get one. Amalia implores Jorge Alfredo to not ruin Maria's life.

JNTR: The place is empty except for some of the musicians. Fernando points out that they need Jorge Alfredo to bring in the audience; Oscar insists he is the star.

Mendoza Apt: Amalia seems to have accepted that Maria will follow Jorge Alfredo to wherever. She still brings up the pain. She recognizes that she couldn't take away Maria's pain, but Jorge Alfredo can. He swears before the Virgen and the memory of his mother that he will protect Maria with his life.

JNTR: He tells the remaining guys he will have to fire some of them.

Mendoza Apt: Jorge Alfredo swears he loves Maria more than his own life and he will make her happy. Isabel is happy as a clam. Amalia joins Maria and Jorge Alfredo's hands with a prayer that their love can confront all their problems.

JNTR: Concho fires two of the guys and is about to defend his position when Jorge Alfredo and Maria arrive. Pinchi and Homerito are happy. Jorge Alfredo and Concho go back to the office. Mirna starts falling all over him with gratitude. Maria tells Oscar they have to talk.

Maria's Dressing Room: Maria explains that Jorge Alfredo is returning the JNTR but Oscar isn't on board with this.

Office: Jorge Alfredo and Concho come to a financial agreement but Concho brings up the issue of him and Oscar not getting along. That is the very subject Jorge Alfredo wanted to speak to him about.

JNTR: Oscar and Fernando talk. Fernando tries to make him understand that Maria was never his. He tries to tell Fernando that if he were a real friend he would help separate Maria from Jorge Alfredo. Elvira eavesdrops.

Office: Mirna tells Concho about Lourdes and Soñador.

JNTR: Fernando tells him “no way” and that he has lost nothing. Oscar rants that he's lost everything now that Maria is pregnant. Elvira is impactada.

Maria's Dressing Room: They talk, then flirt, as Maria gets ready to perform.

Oscar's Dressing Room: Oscar hatches a plan. Elvira is amused.

Maria's Dressing Room: All is well... for the moment.

Oscar's Dressing Room: Jorge Alfredo comes him to talk to him. Oscar still calls him “pochito.” He then tells him that since he took Maria away from him he will deny him work. [Since when does he have that authority under the current conditions?]

Avances

The evil ones play their next cards and Elvira sinks even lower.

Comments:
My apologies for this being so succinct but I was unable to find the Mexican edition. My gut is telling me there is something missing because I can't determine the dividing line between 98.2 and 99.

Predicting that Amalia will change her mind at least ten more times before the end.

Hey girl, thanks for the recap. In the Mexican novela, cap 98 ends and cap 99 starts with the same scene, where Jorge Alfredo serenades Maria.

I have already seen the novela but really enjoy reading the recaps. Thanks to all the recappers for a terrific job.

Thanks, Anon.

I was rather amused at Concho's situation. It can't be easy to have one's wife and outside woman working together with both knowing almost everything.

Lourdes will have to find out about the true ownership of the bar fairly soon. All hell will break loose over that. Although the person Mirna should rat this out to is Maria.

The big anvil over their heads at this point is Ruben, who will try to take the bar from Concho and cause problems for Maria and Jorge Alfredo. In which case Jorge Alfredo should accept money from his dad until he has access to his own money.

Elvira's threat to harm Maria's unborn baby should be taken seriously. This chick is deranged.

Concho has Outside Woman Blues. However, he deserves it.

There are probably several people who wouldn't want to see Maria's baby born:

Concho (Would Mama Maria be out all night seranading and singing? Nope)

Elvira (to separate Jorge Alfredo from Maria & for pure spite)

Oscar (to separate JA & Maria)

Ruben (to separate JA & Maria)

Wendy (to separate JA & Maria)

I'm actively concerned about both Wendy & Maria being pregnant at the same time.

Thanks Urban!

I'm really concerned now about Maria's baby. Since there is not a miscarriage staircase in sight, and too many mariachis and lovesick admirers around everywhere to protect her, whats Elvirus gonna do? Hire some hunks to kidnap and beat Maria up?

There is a staircase at JNTR that we don't see very often, but I'd worry more about Ruben than Elvira. She has thus far been all talk and has fallen short of true violence. Also, I'm sure she wouldn't think that Orange Is The New Black.

There is also Lourdes, who has tried to get her to see that this is hopeless.

Ruben, on the other hand, is truly dangerous. He is not above murder or kidnapping; we've already had a preview of that. I've previously predicted a possible future action of his.

Oscar wouldn't harm Maria or her baby.

Neither would Concho. She is too important to him and the bar.

Which leaves Wendy, whose pregnancy is a little more advanced. The only way she can pull a switch would be if they give birth at the same time in the same hospital and the babies are the same gender. This doesn't look likely.

One thing should be certain: Maria will be too smart to allow Wendy within fifty feet of her baby without Jorge Alfredo to guard him/her.

UA - Thanks.

I was amused by Oscar turning down Aventurero's plea for him to intercede with Concho. But Oscar hatching yet another scheme with Elvirus, yuck.

I just watched the last three epis and they were full of interesting content. Amelia has always flip flopped with JAntos but now I saw the emotional manipulation she uses on Maria. Yes, she again said she will support her nina's decision but what does she do? She talks about how JAntos is so educated and she isn't and then tells him he can break her heart. Slapping this woman would be a waste of time, she needs and anvil on the head just like Coloso.

If Wendy acted the spoiled bitch with JAntos over Maria I can imagine her having apoplexy over Justo taking Amelia to dinner. I did love the scene when Isa opened the door and wasn't quite sure what to call him but later on she says the papa of my papito and hugs him. I loved how she made him laugh. Justo and for the matter Juan Ferrera is always so serious, the laugh was a nice surprise.

Elvirus is an idiot. The previews show her warning Maria about her baby. Only a fool does that. Actually there are two miscarriage staircases, the short one at the bar and the long one in the barrio although I can't see her lowering herself to go there.

Ruben is a threat because he is starting to look like he has gone over the edge and Fabnot is soon to be plotting against him because he understands that JAntos is no penniless mariachi but from a politically powerful family who can turn the spotlight on their activities. Fabnot seems ambitious to get in good with the GF as well and Ruben is too distracted with his Maria obsession. The fallout from this should be good and my bet is at the end only one of them will be standing.

Fernando remains the voice of reason while Coloso gets denser by the moment. Everyone has told him that Maria isn't, wasn't and will never be his but he can't let go. I laughed when Fernando told him that Vargas had lost everything and Coloso said so had he. I guess losing the love of a woman you never had is comparable to losing your business, your friends, your reputation, being betrayed by friends, your sister and having your father doubt your innocence capped by your mother's death. Only in the blockhead's mind.

Let me get this straight Isa discovers she is not a Mendoza, runs away, is found and returned and everything is just fine in the house and she never asks a question or is told anything - Huh? Same as Vanessa make those charges against Roddy and nothing? And shouldn't Gloria be on her way back?

There are a couple of miscarriage staircases:

The staircase at JNTR

The staircase at Maria's vecindad that looks really shaky

Jorge Alfredo doesn't live there anymore but he had a staircase at his pension.

I cannot picture Elvira going to the vecindad or the pesnion so those staircases are safe I think. :-)

Somebody clarify something for me please, a couple episodes ago JA and whole family went with the family heirloom ring asking formally for Maria's hand and told in front of everybody the story of the ring but Amalia was against the union so JA didn't put it on.
NOW, why is Jantos surprised that Justo has the ring, and asking that - Did you gring my mother's ring??!- And then why Maria is acting like she sees it for the first time, and why is JAntos telling Maria that this ring is more humble (a heirloom ring with a big sapphire and diamonds around it!!) than the old one she threw away??
QUE??!

I think I've seen the staircase near Maria's apartment before in a previous novela. That would never pass any building safety code in the US.

As for whether Isabel asked any questions, I am wondering whether anything has been edited out.

Jorge Alfredo needs a better place to live, but I also doubt that any authorities would think to look for him in a bad neighborhood's seedy bar.

I think the element of humility has nothing to do with the dollar value of the ring but its value vs Maria's value. That's how I read our hero, anyway.

I also suspect that these scenes were shot out of order and somebody didn't pay attention to the editing.

irisz, I was puzzled by that re-engagement convo, too. It was never explained where JA got the money to buy that diamond, and if it was truly worth more than the heirloom sapphire, that makes it even more of a mystery. And since he threw it off the roof, he is even more of a fool. Maria doesn't know what happened to it, either. As for JAntos' surprise that his dad still had the ring, maybe he thought he'd gone up on the roof and tossed it off. ;)

Another loose end from several weeks ago was Fabnot calling Myrna and booking a serenata and specifically asking for a female singer. Then we never saw or heard anything more.

Some of these inconsistencies may be due to the editing they are doing to make it shorter. But not the ring thing, where we all saw what happened in a previous episode.

May the beanie force be with you.

Thanks for the recap, UA. No time to comment today, but I didn't want to forget my manners. :)

Urban

Sometimes I think it would be fun to work as a continuity person on these things and help avoid the WTH how did that happen moments.

Been reading the comments I missed and laughing out loud — those terrible hats. OJ's looked like it was a couple of sizes too small sort of like the ones some cartoon bear wears.

I too think that Santos is dead and Justo knows it. Santos has gone through hell and been reborn as Jose Alfredo. His core values instilled by his parents remain, his courtesy, his concern for others but he has rejected all of the material values that were part of the world he lived in. He and his parents were never snobs although Justo would naturally be a bit appalled at the conditions Santos lives in having not known them. Wendy obviously thinks Santos would be better off with an airhead Paris Hilton, a wealthy collagen and silicon enhanced woman she could spend hours talking with about Prada handbags and Loubitons. After all this is the twit who fell in love with and believed a crook.

I do think JAntos went overboard rejecting and blaming all the ricos for his problems. Somewhere down the line there has to be a reconciliation with his wealth and the poverty he now lives with. There is no need to be stiff necked and full of pride denying what he has and how it can be used to provide for his new little family and help with the people in his new world.

Decie, I agree.

At some point during the last half dozen episodes Jorge Alfredo will recognize that money is a neutral thing that can be used for good as well as for evil and selfishness. He will take his millions and buy a house. Big, but not ostentatious. He might buy JNTR, found a music school, help the other guys achieve their own goals, maybe rescue a few from CdO.

Whether he will change his name legally is another question to ponder.

Wendy wouldn't pull a baby switch. To what end? Even if her own baby died, she wouldn't want the baby "de esa" to raise. And she's a real spoiled brat but she's not evil or crazy like Elvira.

I disagree. Wendy publicly accused her own brother of those crimes in a courtroom whose proceedings were being broadcast on the internet.

She's evil but stupid. Elvira could wipe the floor with her.

Ruben could have them for lunch and still be hungry.

Urban

I don't see Wendy as evil but I sure see her as stupid. She believed the worst about her own brother thanks to Bruno and she defended him as fiercely as Santos defends Maria. She is also a shallow snob.

Elvirus is evil, she admits JAntos is a whim, she chased after him while sleeping with Coloso, she wants him to take him away from Maria and I'm still not sure that she even knows how rich JAntos is/was. She doesn't strike me as the kind that reads or listens to the news.

I also see a legal name change for Santos. His real name will always be associated with suffering for him while his new name has brought him joy. A nice house with a casita or wing for flip flop mama. I don't see him rejecting his money which would be returned to him when he is cleared because he would want some financial security for Maria and his baby. He wouldn't want the child having to work in the streets or lack for basic necessities. It will be fun to see how it shakes out.

No child of Jorge Alfredo would ever have to fend for himself in the streets.

Elvira is oblivious to anything outside of her own world.

I think Wendy's stupidity has been the reason her parents haven't told her about Giuliano's masterminding the framing of her brother. She wouldn't believe it and go running to him.

UA - "Wendy publicly accused her own brother of those crimes in a courtroom whose proceedings were being broadcast on the internet."

Yes, what she did was definitely wrong and stupid, but she did it because she BELIEVED her brother was guilty. She only cared how her brother's "guilt" affected HER and her beloved Bruno. That's not evil. That's stupid and selfish. Evil would be if she KNEW he was innocent and still accused him. Elvira would do that.

IMO - Both Wendy and Elvira are spoiled brats, with Wendy being stupid and Elvira being evil. Elvira wants to harm Maria's baby. And I repeat - there is no reason Wendy would want to switch kids, with her opinion of how low class Maria is.

Just my opinion, of course. But I understand that if you think Wendy is evil, that's okay, your opinion also. :-)

Anon

Wendy has zero motivation to switch babies. This does not exclude someone else doing so if the opportunity presents itself. That would mean what I described before.

As for Wendy accusing her brother, she should certainly know him well enough to know that he would never do such things. She also had no evidence and should have known better vis a vis the family honor to do so under those conditions.

Which does point to her stupidity but also to her willingness to sacrifice the best brother she ever could have. Her parents were saints for not making her pay for that.

Urban

Don't see any baby switching in this story, Elvirus trying to trip Maria up or lose her baby yes. Wendy has no motivation for making a switch.

Wendy is not only stupid she is gullible. Her outburst in court was primarily due to OJ telling her it was the only way to save Bruno. She is the type who never thinks about the consequences of her actions. Her whole thing up until Bruno's death was bitching about not having her big wedding due to her feckless brother and his actions. Even after Bruno confessed her whole thing was how SHE had been betrayed and never how she had betrayed her brother. Santos would be so much better off by doing what I did with one of my sisters and ignoring her.

Wendy has monumental growing up to do and unfortunately Justo is in no position to help her because he is busy trying to clear Santos, the family name and grieving the loss of the love of his life. It is going to take something shocking to make this idiot wake up.
