PEAM, Tuesday 7/23/13 (#96): The Tell-Tale Wristlock
Oh. Right.
Chucho cries. Alma comforts him. (repeat) Her skirt reminds me of the Cat in the Hat's hat, but rounder.
Xochi invites her coworkers to see her perform as "Natasha" at the nightclub. Mari can't go because she wants to be with Eli. Susana tries to get Pánfilo to go with her. At first he says he can't go because he doesn't have any money, but Xochi says they can be her guests. He agrees to go.
Chucho cries in Valentina's room. (Cue flashback reel.) Eli says the police saw Marta's truck on the traffic cameras, heading towards the border in Nuevo Laredo. But the patrols will be on the lookout for her. Chucho says Marta can't get Valentina out of the country without her ID documents.
"I don't love Alma now," Rogue tells Paty. Sansón barks. Paty is elated. Rogue is expecting Alma to ask for an annulment, and he'll agree to it. Paty still feels guilty about Alma, but there's no need for them to talk about Alma and Chucho anymore!
Clothing is flung in Sansón's general direction. He tries to catch a flying shoe.
Delia tells the two dads that all the authorities are on the lookout. Chucho really wants to go to Nuevo Laredo to see for himself. Delia tries to talk him out of it, to no avail. She says okay, but you'll have to have a federal agent with you.
Mari comes over with Chucho's phone. Chucho leaves. Eli cries on Mari's shoulder. Can romance be far away? She even tries to offer him coffee, invoking memories of their first meeting, but he is disconsolate.
Knock-knock. I figure any visitor ought to be a welcome distraction, but I'm wrong. Mari answers the door, and Vero breezes past her without so much as a hello. She proceeds to bitch at Eli, who is still in tears. Mari excuses herself. Vero's all sad and says she loves Valentina so much. (Really? Is that why the dads always pick her up at school, and a nanny dresses and feeds her, and sometimes she's unsupervised because self-absorbed Mommy took sleeping pills on the nanny's day off?)
Cardenas wants to take Jess someplace nice. She wants to go home first and change her clothes. But first, Ric needs her help with Marisela. Jessica tells him to be smart; use his brain and his sense of humor. Most of all, women like a man who takes a chance.
Ray is still at Chatita's house. She doesn't want to leave until Valentina, her only friend, comes home safely. Chatita makes her promise to tell Valentina her "secret," and sends her home. Mari comes in as Ray leaves, but it's a short visit; Ric calls to TELL Mari he'll pick her up in half an hour. And he won't take no for an answer!
I hear the barrel-organ (I want one), so we must be at the nightclub. Susana explains the Natasha/Xochi phenomenon to Pánfilo and flirtatiously points out that this is their first date.
At the restaurant, Jessica is wearing her own clothes. She looks stunning. Cardenas looks like a little boy on Christmas morning. It appears he has arranged some sort of surprise with the maître d'hôtel.
What'd I miss - Alma is in the car with Chucho; Chucho is driving; I don't see any federal agent unless there's something about Alma we don't know.
Marta watches Valentina sleep (did she drug her?) and tells little Vale she's the reason for Marta's existence.
Xochi-tasha is singing. It's good, but it's high time she learned a new song. Pánfilo and Susana are transfixed. Fernando and Julio are enthralled.
When the song ends, Fernando jumps onto the stage, tells Natasha he loves her, and lays a big kiss on her. She puts him in a wristlock that brings him to his knees. He immediately recognizes her as Xochi. The audience applauds. He is horrified and embarrassed and threatens severe consequences. He says he thought she was nicer than this. (The audience reacts to every word they say. It is hard to believe this is the same place where only crickets responded to Yvonne's song-and-dance routine.) Fernando says it just proves that nobody really loves him, and runs off. Xochi follows. Julio is hurt to see Xochi's sympathetic response to Fernando.
Xochi explains to Fernando the obvious - that he was so mean to her as Xochi and she wanted to teach him a lesson. He was in love with Natasha and feels that Xochi played him and made a fool of him and she's as ugly on the inside as she is on the outside.
As Chucho and Alma drive around, Chucho gets increasingly agitated and decides to go home.
The party clown is still wearing his costume and makeup at a gas station. It's a full-service place, but he's standing around outside his car anyway. Guess who's stopped at a traffic light or something right in front of that same gas station, just before they get on the ramp to go home? Guess! Guess! Chucho and Alma are oblivious to him, but he looks right at them! It doesn't matter, though, because he doesn't know who they are.
At the restaurant, Jess's surprise arrives. It's a serenade! Cardenas sings along. Touched, Jessica savors a brief but touching flashback reel of all their great moments together.
Yuri, the pancake terrorist, is telling Alexandra (she's still there? who's paying for this? does Rogue keep her on retainer?) that he used to be a pro wrestler (did he wrestle pancakes?), and sometimes he's sorry he gave it up. Malvino and sidekick arrive. Yuri wants them to perform some unspecified errand he needs them to do in order for him to make hash of Chucho. (Perhaps he needs them to go shopping for the remaining ingredients in his picadillo recipe, such as a gun or nasty knife.)
Susana and Pánfilo's first date is done. He has to hurry home to his daughter, Mar... Mar... Marlena. Susana wants to meet her. Pánfilo says she's probably asleep - she goes to work at 7 AM. Susana asks, where does she work? Suddenly Pánfilo is too desperately tired to chat any more. Good night!
At home, Chatita can't remember where she put Pánfilo's phone number. Eli doesn't have it, but he reminds her where she hides things. She checks her Big Chest of Secrets and finds the number, but no one answers the phone. She doesn't leave a message, and Pánfilo arrives home a moment later. He's thinking he kind of likes Susana.
Chucho and Alma come back to Chatita's, dejected. Everyone clusters around him supportively.
Ricardo takes Mari to his new apartment. He remembers Jess's advice, grabs Mari roughly, and gives her a big kiss. She is not impressed. "Know what time it is? It's time to go home!" She flounces out without him. Ric beats himself up over it. Literally.
Cardenas takes Jessica to her home. She puckers up for a kiss. He says he'll kiss her on the day she says she loves him. She says she didn't know men like him still existed.
Morning. Everyone at the office seems to be working - even Jessica. Mari tells Jess about last night with Ric.
Fernando comes in. Xochi tries to talk to him. He shuts the door in her face. Susana tells Jess and Mari what happened at the club last night.
Rogelio wakes up with Paty in his bed. The first thing he says is, "You're taking precautions, right?" "Of course I am," she replies, and we all know what that means.
Marta tries to spoon-feed Valentina breakfast in bed. Valentina is defiant and doesn't want to be called Jimena. Marta threatens to tell Daddy when he comes home.
Chucho frets and worries. Cue flashback reel: "Chucho meets Valentina for the first time and boy does he look yummy." He stares at his phone, willing it to play that stupid ringtone.
Next time:
Valentina finds an envelope with a mailing address and calls Daddy Jesus. Marta responds by setting the place on fire. Way to keep a low profile, Marta! (Er, I mean, "OR DO THEY??")
Labels: Manda
Fantastic title, lol. It is so Maricela.
Did not see Ferny finding out Xochi was Natasha this soon. And Ricardo, who knew, what a manly man! Poor Julio, and Cardenas and Jess so sweet!
Hated the whole Valentina thing tonight. Marta needs to go to the netherworld soon.
Can't wait for your awesome recap!
Eventually the right "time" will come for someone to use that joke in a title, but not tonight!
Alma's skirt, yes I did think about the Cat In The Hat.
Excellent point about the self absorbed Ice Queen. She is not raising Val. Her two dads and Minerva are.
Cardenas proves that he has some swagger. The date was very tasteful and sweet.
Xochi-tasha- I love the name. Now Ferny will have his pity party. Xochy is right, how can you say that you love someone who you don't even know? I wonder if Julio will be left out in the cold because Xochy felt bad for Fern after his discovery.
Since when did Panfilo become the AARP babe magnet???
Uri is working on my nerves. I am about to make picadillo out of him.
I loved Paty crossing her fingers when Rogelio asked her about taking precautions.
I also loved the dynamic between Cardenas and Jessica.
Jarifa
This is so wonderful! I too like the Cat in the Hat skirt and the Xochi-tasha nickname.
TJ:
I was laughing so hard at your comment about Panfilo being the AARP babe magnet. I am still laughing : )
I really wonder what is gonna happen now with Xochi and Ferny. I wish she would wear the Tasha look to work, with her hair down and smaller glasses. I think she would look fab. I too feel bad for Julio. The poor guy.
Jess was really surprising. I think Cardenas and Jess make a great couple and I agree Julie she looked stunning in that little black dress. I also like what Cardenas told her, that he would kiss her the day she told him she loved him, awwwww..
I think Mari is really into Ricardo. I like how she always points to her watch and tonight I had to laugh when she said it was time to go home. I don't see a future with Elias and Mari. I think she would be better with Ricardo.
Poor Valentina. Ya know the house that Marta took Valentina to, reminds me of that little house on STUD, that Valentina, the adult, built for the kids to go to school. I really hope that Chucho and Alma get there before something bad happens to Valentina. I don't care if Marta burns up in that house, I just don't want Valentina to be with her. I want Valentina to be safe and sound.
Fernando acting like a victim; Xochi fooled him but he had been a weenie. Paty continues to let Rogue use her. Blech.
Jessica's date with Cardenas was nice as was Susana and Panfilo - TJ you are too funny, AARP babe magnet!
Looks like we get a wrap-up of the whole Val thing tonight, thank the heavens. What else do they want to do to that poor child?? Now she REALLY will need some therapy to talk thru her crazy parent problems and now a kidnapping. But then there's always Chatita...her fees are small, just a big hug.
I am done with Vero too and just don't know where this character goes. Eli has had it with her too and though he leant his shoulder, I think her attitude thru this has TOTALLY turned him off to her. Now I don't like him with Mari, but I have to say, I was glad the poor guy had someone he could break down too. As to Vero--the only avenue now I see with her is to start getting desperate and wreaking havoc, as she threatened Alma with. At this point I would say juarever, but take that child away from her if she does get that way.
I kind of get where Ferny is coming from with his sense of feeling betrayed by Xochi and had a feeling that would happen. He realized his brother never really loved him, Discua was a wash-out, issue with parents if I remember, etc. But I think if anyone can help it will be Xochi--lord knows she understands what that feeling is like too. And Madeleine...I so agree. Get rid of the braid and just make the Natasha look the Xochi look. Even with glasses, it's so much better.
Paticakes preggers? Really...WTH? So if we suspect they may do the same with Alma, will this be a future bonding point for the BFF's. baby shopping? Cripes...
Daisynjay
Madeleine- Oh no, the house does bring back memories of the cabin in. STUD.
I hope that this kidnapping story line ends soon.
I thought Fern was very immature to be so distraught about Xochi-tasha. How dare he tell her she was as ugly inside as outside? She's NOT ugly outside. And she didn't beg him to stupidly fall in love with the Natasha image. Hmmmph!
Clown Scene...Huh?
Oh my, Uri's Belt Buckle was the mother of all Belt Buckles!!
And previews, looks like the witch might get pushed into the oven after all. Goodie!
I agree with you all that the Cardenas / Jessica date was very sweet. And I liked his restraint in holding off on the kiss until she's in love rather than in gratitude.
I didn't catch Patycakes crossing her fingers. So I guess that's a dead giveaway that she's going to turn up preggers.
I still like Julio for Xochi -- but a detour into a friendship / relationship with Ferny could be good for the self esteem of both of them. Then let them move on.
So over Vero. She needs a personality transplant.
Hope the previews are right in that the kidnapping plot ends tonight. I so do not want anything to happen to Vale. She needs to be back with her two Dads pronto.
Güera
Paty was funny, crossing her fingers as she reassured Rog that she was "taking care of herself." Why is it always the woman who must take care of herself? Men who ask that question better make sure it's being taken care of (by using a condom themselves), is all I've got to say! If they're so worried about it, that is. :-)
"...not as if she's a mental health professional... oh, right"
"Cat in the Hat skirt, only rounder"
your analysis of Vero's shrill narcissism and lack of real parental involvement
and my absolute favorite:
YURI THE PANCAKE TERRORIST (yep, that's my Julie)
Absolutely hate the kidnapping plot. A real child in real life would be so traumatized by all this as well as the fire. Ye Gods...this is NOT entertaining.
Also, while I love Cardenas, he was not singing on-key. At least not on the same key as the musicians. Ouch!
Best visual: Vero sitting alone while everyone clustered around Chucho hugging and consoling him. If this doesn't wake her up to her off-putting behavior, nothing will.
I'm sure the writers have Redemption planned for her and we've seen some real creeps redeemed before, but it's gonna take a heap o' work!
TJ...laughing but yes, I can see Panfilo as an AARP babe magnet. As an older woman, I don't want to hop in bed or in the shower with a guy who looks better than I do! Give me a nice, accepting, verrry average-looking guy and yes ma'am, I'm attracted.
I too thought the Jessy-Oliverio (Jessiverio?) date was sweet. And yes Judy, he was really off key. And I was very surprised that Fer learned the Xochitasha secret so soon. But I really wanted the kidnapping to be over by now.
What was the point of the writers showing us that near miss with the clown? Just to mess with us and make us throw things at the tv? There was now no point in the clown being part of the storyline at all, since it looks like Val engineers her own rescue. Good girl!
I don't think Paty is pregnant. I think she's hoping, but that plan will blow up in her face just like all her other schemes. Paty is really good at wanting things, but not so good at deserving them.
The clown could still be useful when they press charges against Marta, assuming she survives the fire. Val will remember the clown and he will remember her. (In his defense, clowns are probably used to kids misbehaving and being cranky and disrespectful, but if this event makes the news he might even come forward as a witness.)
Liked that Cardenas sang off key. Made it more "real" for me.
I kind of sympathize with Fernando. He just got knocked for a loop re: Discua and desparately convinced himself he was in love with Natasha--and now he's been made a fool of again (or so he thinks). I think he's also hurt because he and Xochi had made some progress at work. HIs name calling seems to be the last vestige of his other self--he still calls Jesus names, sometimes.
OT: Been watching Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish again and almost got the entire conversations in the last ep I watched thanks to my TN watching (sort of reverse of everybody else--but I watched D the first time way before I ever started watching TNs). I was excited.
Univision is--justly--proud of it's rank as the #1 network in the country. It was even mentioned on The Rachel Maddow Show :)
Nanette
One thing that struck me as really weird in this epi, though, was that while Oliverio was singing, Jessica just kept looking at the mariachis. If a guy was serenading you, wouldn't you look at HIM? I know she has no social skills, but jeepers.
I wonder why Mad Marta decided to serve boob pancakes for breakfast. Pancakes are being abused all over this show! Run, Val, run.
So is Rogue really giving up on Alma, or did he just say that to get Patimelt back in the sack? Maybe he's still planning to tomcat around, but with Vero now. By no means do I believe he intends to suddenly become loyal to Pati. I'm kind of interested to see whether Paticakes can redeem herself by the end. She's awful, but she seems more immature and needy than outright evil. She may have overhauled her appearance after her difficult childhood, but she forgot to repair her self-esteem.
Glad to see Jess has some clothes other than her uniform and Slutoween costumes. She looked great.
I agree that the off key singing by Oliveras was more real than if he sang perfectly.
Güera
I don't have much faith in Rogue's alleged disinterest in Alma either. For one thing, he's scheming with Vero to split up the happy couple. For another, Paty kinda jumped to conclusions. Even if he doesn't want Alma any more, he could have told Paty that he loves her - and he didn't. Maybe Paty didn't notice, but I did. :-)
I didn't care for Alma's skirt. Plus, I'm not fond of the new blouse style with the slits on the sleeves. It's very popular, though.
Wondering if Xochi and Fern will become closer, then Discua will return just in time for a triangle.
I like Panfilo suddenly becoming a chick magnet.
Poor Ricardo: But I think it worked. I think Mari left because she was tempted, and she's still clinging to the marrying rich idea.
