Qué Bonito Amor #75 (Mex 111) Monday 7/29/13

Capitulo 111: Las Cartas No Mienten

JNTR Club Room: Concho announces that sadly, there is no female singer this evening but for the special guests tonight he has two conquistadores, El Coloso and Mil Amores. One of the ladies flirts shamelessly with both of them and they launch into “El Rey.” Ana is not too pleased, thinking that Fernando is eating this up. Oscar flirts with the whole party, they look happy, and Lourdes looks pleased. Fernando sings his signature song and Siete Mares doesn't look pleased. He kisses the guest of honor after he's done.

Hospital: The two cops who stopped Jorge Alfredo during the storm come to the hospital with a Wanted poster looking for him. The nurse tells them she hasn't seen him and she just came on duty. They go past her into the corridor although she yells at them that they aren't allowed in the intensive care unit. She picks up the phone. The administrator stops them just as they are about to enter Maria's room where Jorge Alfredo is sitting with her. He tells them that they need a search or arrest warrant and they say they will return. Jorge Alfredo hears this as he leans on the wall near the door. Despite this he vows to stay with Maria, who lies asleep in the bed.

JNTR, Musicians' Dressing Room: Oscar and one of the other guys talk about Fernando and Susanito not having shown up yet. Oscar comments that it is difficult to concentrate on music and pretend to be happy in front of the public with his “chiquita” in the hospital and his son walking out on him.

Hospital: Jorge Alfredo wipes off Maria's face as he watches her, finally leaning on her thigh. The nurse enters with the chart to record the monitor readings, but doesn't say anything to him. He finds the engagement ring [Shouldn't it be in the hospital safe?] and puts it back on Maria's finger.

The Next Day:

Mendoza Apartment: Paloma walks into the living room to find Gloria asleep on the couch. She pauses in shock, then Roddy enters and kisses her.

Ruben's Office: Fabian tells him he will be sorry for ending their business association. Ruben tells him he doesn't like traitors and he is to leave. As he exits Ruben removes a pistol from his credenza and gloats “We'll see who will be sorry.” There is a photo of El Padrino on Ruben's computer monitor

Mendoza Apartment: Paloma isn't pleased and says so, asking what he's doing there. He tells her that her mother invited them to spend the night because they had nowhere to go. She asks about Oscar, but Roddy doesn't want to talk about him; he's not his father anymore. He has some scrapes on his face, mostly on his left cheek. Gloria starts to wake up.

Street (Near Strip Joint): Fabian parks near the alley where Jorge Alfredo recognized the place, belts his pistol, and takes a transfile box out of the trunk of his car. Ruben has followed him in a cab while Susanito has followed him there on foot and comes out of hiding. At the sound of his voice we see Irasema waking up; she is locked up somewhere inside the building. Some insulting words are exchanged. There is a fight, a struggle for the gun, and it goes off. Two shocked expressions later Fabian collapses. Alas, Susanito's fingerprints will be on the gun, which he puts down on the pavement. Ruben arrives in time to see this, but he retreats. Susanito keeps calling Fabian's name, not believing that he could be dead.

Hospital: Jorge Alfredo clearly didn't get any sleep and he starts to fall asleep leaning on Maria while holding her hand. She wakes up and he does. He tries talking about finding the strength to go on, but she is clearly depressed, saying that their love is over because it was never strong enough. [Mama must have had a spell cast over her.] He tells her that they need each other's love but – the doctor's worst prediction comes true – she tells him it would be better if she doesn't see him anymore.

Irasema's Cell: She hears Ruben calling the police to report that Susanito has killed Fabian. She starts yelling for help. Ruben grins and walks away.

Hospital: Maria seems to believe that their love was cursed and holds it responsible for the death of the baby. She tells him to leave and not return lest she begin hating him.

El Lay: Wendy is in Justo's office on the phone with him, getting the news about the loss of the baby. She tells her father to convey her condolences to her brother and not to worry about her; she has Salvador and Michael. She then hangs up and cries, then sits down at the desk.

Hospital: Jorge Alfredo tells Maria he will not leave her; he can't. The sadness binds them because being a couple isn't just about being together during the good times. They also share the bad. She clearly doesn't get this and tells him to leave her alone. She needs to think. She loves him but all she knows is sadness. [She has swallowed Amalia's poison completely. ] She takes off the ring to return it to him because she isn't sure she wants to be with him. She needs time. He takes it back reluctantly and she turns her head when he tries to kiss her. Finally he leaves. [Alright, Amalia, be happy! You just got what you wanted, bitch!] Maria cries. Jorge Alfredo takes a deep breath and leans against the wall for a moment. He starts crying as he attempts to accept this. He takes a last look at her through the window in the door before exiting. He's trying to find the stiff upper lip he used to have when he lived in the US [but probably lost it on his last business trip to London].

Mendoza Apartment: Roddy told Paloma about his problems with Oscar and how he walked out on him. Paloma asks “Why did you do that?” and Roddy said that Oscar didn't want to see him. They argue about Vanessa and Gloria wakes up. She's not happy to see the lovebirds arguing and suggests they go into the kitchen and talk about it. The two teens follow her there.

Sanchez Apartment / Irasema's Cell: Mancia is looking at the cards and sees a cell yet again. She isn't getting what this means. She wonders were Irasema and Susanito are. The top card she is holding is the 8 of Swords. Irasema yells for help, Susanito comes to her rescue, telling her to stand back. He starts to kick the door.

Mendoza Apartment, Kitchen: Wise Gloria, after hearing the account of the Vanessa Incident, has figured out what it's about. After establishing that Roddy is not a liar by nature she hypothesizes that this photo was a set-up to cause them to fight. [Where was she when Maria needed her?]

Irasema's Cell: The door finally gives and they embrace. However, Susanito has Fabian's blood on his hands. He says he thinks he killed him.

Street: Cute little Isabel is between Paloma and Roddy, holding their hands. They've not quite made up because Paloma asks why he didn't tell her the truth about the Vanessa Incident. He says it's because she's stubborn. Isabel mediates. Clearly she has more IQ points than the two teens put together.

Hospital: The police arrive in front of the hospital with the wanted poster. They talk about how this fugitive is dangerous. They hand the search warrant and the wanted poster to the administrator. Jorge Alfredo is in reception, about to depart. Oscar arrives, annoyed at seeing him. Jorge Alfredo says he might get his wish sooner than he thinks. He exits before Oscar can figure out what that means.

Mendoza Apartment: Amalia tells the girls that Maria will be coming home soon and they will have to take care of her. She speculates that Maria won't be able to work for a while so she will have to get a job. Gloria makes the same prediction for herself, as her treatments have cost everything she had. Paloma tells her mother she will help and when Roddy echoes this Gloria tells him he needs to concentrate on school; she'll get his father to give them money. Roddy is being just as stubborn as he accused Paloma of, saying he wants nothing from him.

Street Outside Strip Joint: Susanito and Irasema stand over Fabian's body a second or two too long and detectives arrive to arrest him.

El Lay, Federal Prison: In Mike's office, Wendy has obviously updated him on what happened in Mexico. Mike comments that Maria must be a great woman because it sounds like Santos would die without her. Wendy has a suspicious expression.

Hospital: Oscar has just sunk a little lower, still addressing Maria as “Mi chiquita” [which she shouldn't like even if she loved him, but never mind] and pressuring her not to see “el pochito” again. She is clearly annoyed, but likely feels too weak to fight about this. Not that she has the opportunity, because the administrator enters with the cops, saying this is the last room in the women's wing. Oscar gets up, demanding to know what the police want. They ask him who he is and why he is there and he says that Maria is his wife. He shames them over their intrusion.

Park: Isabel and Jalisquito walk around the columned monument. She has told him about her mother requiring medication and how Maria won't be able to buy it now. He tells her he can get it; he has a way. Elsewhere Roddy has set a trap for Vanessa to tip her hand. As soon as she admits setting the trap, Paloma appears and dismisses her as Roddy tells Vainessa he lied to her to get her to admit the truth so he could recover Paloma's love. At the monument, Jalisquito serenades Isabel in front of a gathering crowd. [I normally don't like to hear children singing, but this kid is precociously talented, almost like Gerardito Fernández at that age.] Meanwhile, Vainessa tells Paloma she will not give up and Paloma tells her that she will never get Roddy to love her. She and Roddy kiss in front of her.

Police Station: Susanito and Irasema try to explain what happened, but the detective isn't buying it. He talks about the paraffin test [which, sadly, will come back positive]. He tries to explain that the “victim” had kidnapped Irasema. She cries as they take him away, saying that he will get the maximum sentence. [Mexico has Life Without Parole.]

Hospital Room: Oscar is pleased with himself over getting the cops out of Maria's room, but she is not laughing. The doctor enters, telling her that if everything is alright she can go home today. The doctor wants to examine her before she leaves because of the risk that women who suffer this may not be able to have more children. She dismisses Oscar and Maria looks a little relieved at his departure, but still upset over possibly not having children in the future.

Pensión: Jorge Alfredo has told his dad he managed to escape the police once again. Justo asks Jorge Alfredo what he plans to do now and he says he will wait. He is hurt at Maria's rejection, but is determined not to give up. Justo explains that his own sadness at Altagracia's death was so great he was afraid he wouldn't recover, but he knows he will eventually. He asks what Jorge Alfredo will do if Maria doesn't take him back and he tells him that he will surrender himself to the police and let it be in God's hands.

Avances

Maria goes to the pensión.

Who has tomorrow? I did the whole episode just in case of unwelcome edits.

This was only #111.

Thank you, UA! So well written como siempre!!

I don't know; just don't know what to think, but I think I am just as sick and tired of Maria and want to see her go away with her stupid mother and the even more stupid Coloso. I think these three deserve each other.

Jantos deserves better than this woman. Seriously, writers?! You give us yet another "I don't want to see you anymore routine"?!

I'm fed up, I tell you!

When they finally set the wedding date JA should say to Maria "No, your mother can't live with us!"

One can only imagine how she would trash-talk JA to his own children when the time comes.

I would have called her out on her crap a long time before this. Granted, his legal situation is still not resolved but by all US standards (the ones that matter for his situation) there is no tangible evidence of his guilt. I hope Gloria has an opportunity to lay out the whole situation with her and ask "Why do you want him to be found guilty? Why do you really want him out of Maria's life?" Even if Amalia can't or won't answer that out loud it should be a heads-up to her own selfishness and possibly envy.

I think envy is a distinct possibility. Excellent point.

I have a wonderful and dear friend whose mother could never (not an exaggeration) accept her daughter's successes. I never understood this dynamic, but I saw my friend of many years suffer because of this. My friend was and is a huge success, but because of her mother's never ending disapproval, I don't think my friend has ever been able to enjoy that success.

So, yes, I think envy on Amalia's part is a definite possibility.

Seems like Gloria and Justo are the only two adults (maybe Isa?! LOL!) in this story.

I'm even hating Amalai's hair do these days. The bangs and the old timey flip 'do are getting on my nerves. Yikes! I am baaad!!

Maria is correct. Their love (more accurately, HER love) is NOT strong enough. Every time the wind blows the wrong direction, Maria wants to throw in the towel on their relationship. Maria always wants to give up when things do not go the way she thinks they should go.

I think Santos should let Maria go. He does not need a silly wife like that, not with the troubles he has in store for him. He needs someone who will be strong for him. Maria is not that person. He's going to need someone to stand by his side as he fights for his life and fights to clear his name. Maria is not that person.

I wish I could blame Amalia for poisoning Maria's mind against Santos, but I can't, not entirely. Maria has a strong mind when it comes to Coloso. Amalia's been hinting about Coloso and Maria has a strong mind about that, so why can't Maria have the same strong mind about Santos?

It's because IMO Maria does not love Santos. She's been TOLD she loves Santos, and she feels lust for him, but she doesn't love him. All those promises about loving him and always staying by his side are false. I'm actively rooting for a new character to swoop in and make Santos think twice about Maria. He's been fighting for her and she hasn't been fighting for him. If she wants him, she needs to fight for him.

Irasema's brain cells seemed to have been squeezed out by her bad wig. Instead of all this "Oh, I love you" crap, she should've told Susanito "Yo, I heard some dude call the cops, let's get out of here." No, these dum-dums are just standing over the body. I think the only person that could really help Susanito out is Justo.

Vanessa needs to get a life.

I actually don't think that Amalia is envious of Maria. It's just that Amalia knows that JAntos is the one who will take Maria away from the family.

With Coloso, Rodrigo, Jalisquito etc. Amalia knows those guys are from their world and will keep Maria, Paloma & Isabel in her world. JAntos is NOT from their world and will take Maria out of it, just like Pedro took Amalia out of HER world.

I also think Amalia has warped ideas on love and romance which she has passed on to her daughters. But I don't think she is necessarily envious of Maria.

At any rate, I am not longer invested in Maria & JAntos' relationship. I think Santos needs to spend his time and energy trying to clear his name rather than chasing after silly, wishy washy Maria for the umpteenth time.

Ladies you all said it right. I wanted to slap Maria for her selfishness and her constantly poor me attitude. She suffers from fair weather love, it is only there when life is full of roses and lollypops and is gone in a New York minute when anything unpleasant happens. So she gives the ring back AGAIN. If I were JAntos hell would freeze over before I offered it to her again. Those previews seem to indicate another see you never again moment. YAWN

Where is the ton of bricks that needs to fall on Coloso to get it through his head that Maria isn't HIS chiquita? Then again she did nothing to correct him or indeed to stop him when he went into his I love you routine. As dumb as he is I can no longer blame him, I blame her because it is nothing more then leading him on. I wonder what she would do if he stopped doing it and left her alone or treated her only a work colleague.

Gloria certainly should give Amelia lessons on parenting. When the Rod/Pal dispute comes up she sits them down and discusses it with them. What did Amelia do? She soothed crying Paloma and asked if she was sure Roddy was a cheat. No advise just more coddling and producing yet another waste of space daughter.

Vainessa indeed. Somehow I don't think she will take this latest setback seriously and will still try to make trouble like she did the last time with her attack accusation.

Fabnot is longer with us but I couldn't help thinking that in the gun wresting the gun didn't go off but Ruben shot him. Otherwise I can't see how Sue is going to get out of this mess. Irasema did hear Ruben calling for the police and that might make the cops wonder why the person who called didn't stick around — then again they are the Mexican police who have looked like idiots in this show.

The eight of swords is interesting and means the seeker doesn't know which way to move in a situation, Bondage, crisis, waste of energy in trivial detail. Now if that doesn't sound like Mancia herself I don't know what does. Interestingly enough if she had drawn the card reversed it means freedom, relaxation from fear, new beginning now being possible.

Maria is too inexperienced to get it. I'm also wondering how much romantic history Amalia had when she married Pedro. My gut says that Amalia was equally inexperienced and has no relationship skills. You can't teach what you don't know.

Amalia also never seemed to learn that a child is supposed to grow up to leave a family of origin and not stay a child forever. In Amalia's perfect world their roles would never change and Maria would remain in the horrible position of being a child with adult responsibilities. I've seen a few people like that and it makes for a sad life.

Interesting theory about the shooting. I should have paid closer attention to see if the two pistols were the same. If they're not then the ballistics report will clear Susanito.

Paloma and Roddy are the mirror of Maria and JA with this situation. Vainessa -- like Elvira -- won't give up. She still hasn't played the "he forced me" card, which she can coerce her accomplice into saying she witnessed. That will bring down the wrath of both Roddy's parents and possibly wake Oscar up to his own treatment of Maria.

The Mexican Police on this show, much like the LOLAPD, don't care about ballistics.

They saw a dead body, they saw Susanito standing over said dead body, they saw blood on Susanito's hands, and they saw a gun. In their minds, case closed.

Just like LOLAPD. Every piece of evidence they have is because JUSTO brought it to their attention. LOLAPD didn't even know that OJ owned that special gun until JUSTO brought it to their attention. LOLAPD is not interested in investigating what happened. They just want to throw Santos in jail so they can close the case.

My hope is with Susanito unfairly thrown in jail for a crime he did not commit, it will

a) make Amalia, Mancia & the Mariachi Gang realize Jorge Alfredo is in the same position as Susanito and they've all judged JAntos unfairly.

b) cause Santos to realize he needs to put his energy into clearing his own name.

I really don't think they'll let Susanito go unless Justo or somebody forces the police to take another look at the evidence. And I say Justo because I think he's the only one who can go toe to toe with the police, with educated people like Ruben, with the LOLAPD etc.

Anon207

As much as i'd like to see it I don't think Amelia, Mancia and the Mariachi Gang will connect the dots that say Susanito being unfairly accused is the same as JAntos situation. Mancia just goes along with the rest of them but Amelia wouldn't like JAntos or think him innocent if God himself came down and told her. He is a monumental threat to her world and unfortunately in her mind always will be. The Mariachi Gang goes with the flow of Coloso. They never stop and think for themselves. It's frat boy city all the time.

I do agree that Santos should begin to expand his energy on clearing himself and spend less time chasing after Miss Flip Flop. It would do her good to have him take her at her word and ignore her. I really want to see HER running after him and begging him to forgive her and take her back. I dream big but somehow don't think it will happen. I hate see him begging for crumbs from her and her complete insensitivity to the horrendous losses he is trying to cope with.

Maria was a selfish bitch last night. Run, Santos. Run far, far away. You can do so much better.

I hold Maria responsible for her own behavior, not her mother or anyone else. She is an adult; it'd be nice if she acted like one.

Loved how pleased Coloso was with his little lie to the cops, not realizing what a huge favor he just did for JA. What a tool.

Adios, Fabnot. Have fun shoveling coal with Bruno and the rest of the gang. Too bad you had to mess up Susano's life on your way out.

Does anyone remember there being any witnesses to any fights between Fabnot and Ruben? Fernando may have witnessed something during the failed eviction attempt, but I can't think of any others.

OK; while rewatching La Tempestad, which I still have to make a decision about, I'm seeing that the two pistols are not the same. Susanito can be cleared if the right lawyer comes to his aid. This kid doesn't deserve anything that's happened to him.

I know on American soaps, when they kill off a character or send them out of town, they usually bring on a new character.

The last time we had a new character was Seven Seas, and that was around the time Baritono & his bride left town.*

So I wonder if they are bringing somebody new on?

*Actually the last time we had a new character was Jalisquito, the kidnappers, the ambiguously gay duo & the doctor but I mean a substantial recurring character, not a day player.

Anon

They still have time to introduce a new character, maybe a girl for Coloso since none of the current ones are available. Then agin since Fabnot was a rat bastard perhaps another rival for power in the gang.

I can't remember anyone seeing Fabnot and Ruben arguing but I'm hoping that somehow Irasema might remember that it was Ruben's voice she heard. Then again did she hear him speak that time when Fabnot found her at JTNR?

Carolina

Maria was a total bitch making it all about her. You are right she is an adult and should be responsible for her own actions. Its like she wants to hold all the grief to herself, to surround herself with misery and pain and wallow in it. She doesn't know how to share either good things or bad and for that I blame Amelia.

Maria won't get a pass from me for being "inexperienced" and "not being taught" what the right kind of love is. Even the most ignorant person who falls in love, who really loves, will stand by his/her love through thick and thin. She told JA she would be with him forever, would fight for their love, etc., etc., but I think she was just repeating words she read in a romance novel without knowing the real meaning of them. She's just useless and definitely does not deserve him.

I wish some of Rogelio from LQNPA would seep into Jose Alfredo's character - he needs to stop being such a wuss. She said leave? Well, leave! Just go back to L.A., clear your name and get on with your life. If her love is real, she should be the one to come after you. But don't make it easy for her. And make it clear that the relationship is between two people and two people only.

I also don't believe the gang will compare Susanito's situation with JA's. Mancia won't see further than to blame Irasema ('cause, you know if he never met her, yada, yada, yada) and Coloso is too thick-headed, not to mention he has tunnel vision when it comes to JA. Even if he saw it, he would make sure not to mention it, as he will never be willing to give Santos the benefit of the doubt. And those sheep (mariachis) will just blindly follow his lead.

I don't think that Irasema heard them arguing there. I also don't think they had rough words in front of Maria on that one occasion when she saw Giuliano in Ruben's office.

Ruben's evil will escalate, as will Giuliano's.

There will have to be a new chiquita for Oscar.

Thanks for the recap! I think I enjoyed it more than the actual episode.

I really don't like Maria right now. I think she's letting herself get really deep in this depression. Why does it all have to be JA's fault? But for now I think it's better they are apart.

I hope the situation with Susanito won't get too crazy and unrealistic because then I might give up on this TN. I have watched many TNs and over time certain things seem ridiculous to me. And if Amalia and Coloso keep up with their attitudes then I wouldn't know what to say.

Gloria is very smart. I'm glad she talking some sense in Rodri and Paloma about Vanessa. Her idea turned out to be priceless! Loved watching that scene.

I don't think I've ever watched a novela where there wan't something so stupid I shook my head but when i've invested this much time I stick it out. If the stupidity starts early I save myself the frustration and bail.

In any event I don't remember ever seeing a novela where so many people disliked the Heroine and thought the galan would be better off without her. The standard show usually goes the other way where we hate on the dude for a long period of time no matter what hunk is playing him. LOL

Thank you for this fab recap, UA, and I agree with everyone else, I wish Jorge Alfredo got fed up and said "See ya!"

Agree with the poster who said she wished JAntos would get a little bit of Rogelio from LQNPA in him. Rogelio would not allow himself to be jerked around like this. Of course I wouldn't want JAntos to go full-douchebag like Rogelio sometimes did. But just enough to stop putting up with this drama queen stuff.

Sick of both Maria and Amalia! I really hope JAntos does take a 'break' from their drama for a while. He's got bigger concerns right now.

No man takes back a woman who begs him to. That's why this doesn't happen.
