Qué Bonito Amor #59 (Mex 88-89.1) Thursday 7/4/13 Que Desafortunado Bebe

Yep, Maria's pregnant.  "With a criminal's child," as Amalia puts it.  Amalia has to pull a fake-out with "I won't love that baby…I'll adore him."  Paloma's excited to be an aunt, Amalia's excited to be a grandma, and Isa…?

Roddy's all dressed up and smelling good to go see Paloma.  Colosso gives him some money to buy Paloma flowers with.  As he's leaving, Roddy lets Elvira in.

Isa, of course, is worried nobody's going to love her when she's not the baby anymore.  She's not too thrilled about the diapers…she volunteers to feed the baby, though.

Elvira is stiiiiiiill after Jorge Alfredo, but Colosso doesn't know where to find him.  Elvira brags that Maria won't sing at the bar ever again.

Amalia laments that Maria didn't fall for Colosso.  Once again, Maria tells Isa that her "daddy" is a bad guy, which sends Isa off to her room to cry.

Irasema and Susanito argue.  Irasema's Team Jorge Alfredo all the way.  After all, he's the reason she now has Susanito.  Irasema tells him if he condemns Jorge Alfredo, he's condemning her too.  Susanito caves, of course.  "What the hell.  I was born henpecked and I might as well die that way!"

Ana bitches and moans about how all men are the same, Milamores loves Jorge Alfredo more than he loves her.  Oh, shut up, Ana!  Leti doesn't like how Maria's being affected, but she's excited at the thought that Maria might be pregnant.

Mancia sees Irasema and Susanito and chews him out (1) for looking for Jorge Alfredo and (2) not getting the laundry done.  Irasema defends Jorge Alfredo, saying the two of them are like twin souls.  Mancia tries to use that to turn Susanito against Irasema…and he lets it happen.

Isa cries and whines about how she doesn't love Maria anymore and how Maria and Amalia lied to her that forgiveness is the greatest gift from God and the Virgen.

Irasema finds Jorge Alfredo, in the midst of some sympathetic pregnancy nausea.

Maria's also feeling pukey, but also upset over what Isa said. Paloma thinks Isa will get over it.  Amalia tells them that Isa cried herself to sleep.  She gives the girls a speech about sticking together.  Roddy comes over, bringing Paloma a big pink heart.

Jorge Alfredo's getting his drink on early.  Irasema's a little pissed at herself for mentioning this hellhole to him.  He tells her he's wanted for money laundering.

Mancia continues talking Susanito out of being with Irasema.  He begs her not to make him choose.  She threatens to have another episode, so he says, fine, he'll come back later and see how she's doing.

Irasema's not too impressed with Jorge Alfredo's confession.  Or his whiny "poor me" attitude…or maybe that's me.  He tells her he's been feeling sick and weird lately, like something's coming that will give him hope.  "Are you guilty?  Then don't act like it!  Maria and Isa or both suffering over you.  Isa's desperate because she doesn't know where you are."

In her sleep, Isa begs Jorge Alfredo not to leave her.  She wakes up crying.  Victoria Ruffo better watch it…this kid's after her job.

Irasema tells Jorge Alfredo he's a rat bastard for breaking a promise to a child.

Isa comes out to the living room and asks Maria's forgiveness…the little sneak did it so she could get permission to go outside and "play."  Really, Maria and Amalia?  You let a kid play you like that?

Maria looks at Isa's old baby clothes and wonders if she's having a boy or a girl.  She decides to knit a bunch of baby clothes.

Isa's sobbing again, wandering the streets, right past two only slightly concerned cops.

Really, Amalia?  Giving speeches about how the best gift you can give your children, after giving them birth, is to let them live their own lives?

Uh oh, the cops find out that Isa's looking for her dad.  Good thing they decide to take her home rather than helping her find him!

Maria's missing Jorge Alfredo.  She tells Amalia that she ran into him on the street and almost told him about the baby.

Spoke too soon…Isa and the cops find Jorge Alfredo and he tells the cops he'll get her home.  I guess these cops didn't get the memo.

Susanito brings Irasema flowers, but she won't accept them.  She thinks her past will always get in their way.  She tells him to take the flowers to his mom, cause they are OVER.

Maria and Amalia decide it's time for Isa to come back inside, but before Amalia can open the door, they hear Jorge Alfredo singing "Maria Bonita" outside while he cradles Isa in his arms and dances around with her.

Susanito goes back home and mopes over his flowers.  He gives Mancia grief for daring to ask why he's crying.  She has the grace to look a little guilty.

Irasema considers going to the hellhole with Jorge Alfredo.

Mancia says Susanito's disrespecting her, but he says it's the other way around--she's never given him any respect.  "Congratulations!  She wants nothing more to do with me.  You're the only mother I know who can be happy with her son being unhappy.  And quit threatening me with another episode, cause I'm not buying it anymore!"  He destroys the flowers and storms out of the apartment.

Jorge Alfredo keeps singing, Isa keeps smiling, Maria keeps crying.  When he's done, she goes to the door and throws it open.   Jorge Alfredo carries Isa in and sets her down.  "I just came to bring Isabel home.  She went looking for me."  He says he's going.  Maria feels a little faint and Amalia tries to kick him out before he can find out what's going on.  Isa giddily announces Maria's not sick…just pregnant with his baby.  Maria admits she's pregnant, but she doesn't know who the father is.  "Whose child is this, Jorge Alfredo?  The man I fell in love with, or the fugitive?"  Jorge Alfredo spouts a bunch of poetry as an answer.

Fernando and Soñador are still looking for Jorge Alfredo.  They witness some guy shaking down a kid for money for selling gum on "his" block.  Milamores, of course, takes the guy on.  And headbutts him.  I think we all need to chip in and pay for Milamores to get his head checked out.  It's really been through a lot lately.

Maria tells him it's just her baby and he needs to hit the road.  Like he would.

Of course, one headbutt from Milamores is enough to get the jackass to give up his life of crime and he leaves immediately.

Amalia gives Jorge Alfredo grief for knocking up one of her kids and getting the other one's hopes up that she'd have a daddy.  Jorge Alfredo says he'll only go if Maria asks him to.  "I've done that, like, a million times.  What do you want this time?"  She asks him to leave again.  "You can't ask me to leave."  Isa begs him to stay.  Jorge Alfredo starts to promise something and Maria tells him he needs to quit making promises.  Jorge Alfredo vows never to leave Isa or his child, but he does leave the apartment for  now.  And leaves all the Mendoza ladies crying.

Milamores and the kid are both from the same hood, though the kid's originally from Jalisco.  And he sings mariachi.  The guys introduce themselves and Milamores tells the kid to look for him at the pension if he needs help again.

Jorge Alfredo visits with Doña Prudencia in the park.  She's happy to see him again.

Amalia knows Maria wishes Jorge Alfredo had insisted on staying, but she's happy enough to stop talking about it and knit instead.  Maria's hoping for a boy…since men suffer less than women…and she wants to name him "Jorge Alfredo" after his father.

Prudencia tells Jorge Alfredo to be strong, but he's too busy feeling sorry for himself.  She tells him he has to keep the promises he made.  "It sounds to me like you're resigning yourself to losing everything without putting p a fight, and if that's the case, then you don't deserve her!"

Colosso comes banging on the door.  He's brought flowers and begs Maria not to keep punishing him.  "It was just a little kiss!"  He says he knows it was wrong of him, but he just couldn't help himself…he's sooo in love with her!  Maria calls him on his victim-blaming.  She's tired of men using their "love" as an excuse for all the crappy things they do.  Colosso is pissed to hear that Jorge Alfredo is back.

Prudencia tells him she's seen a lot of shit in her day.  She's had a stroke, she's seen a lot of her loved ones die, and she's still hanging in there, so he needs to sack up.  "Your love is stronger than you are."

Colosso begs her to give him a chance and swears he'll make her the happiest woman in the world.  Maria absolutely won't do it…"Especially now."  She hesitates, but tells him she's got a bun in the oven.

Tomorrow: Colosso goes after Milamores…again; Colosso goes after Jorge Alfredo…again; Colosso and Jorge Alfredo get into a fistfight…again.

Happy 4th to all of you who are celebrating. May your fireworks be bright and tomorrow's hangovers manageable :p

We have 1 more night of rehearsals left, tomorrow, then the show previews on Monday night and we open on Tuesday. So far, I still think directing is less strenuous than acting...let's see if that holds true till the end of the run!

Directing is less strenuous because you get to be the boss! Did it in college and.... oh, never mind. I hate thinking about how cowardly I was to take the degree and never practice.

Good for Isabel for spilling the frijoles because this might be just what Santos needs. Somebody else (most likely Irasema) will ultimately point out that the simultaneous nausea and fainting spells prove that Santos and Maria belong together because they are in tune with each other (or whatever).

BTW, Couvade Syndrome usually happens with live-in partners who witness what happens and are seriously empathetic to it.

By tonight's episode the entire band will know that Maria is pregnant. That will be interesting.

Of course, this will also give Elvirus even more encouragement. Concho will probably want to see Maria and Santos get back together so he can get them both back at the bar.

Good to see that Susanito found his cojones at last.

Both Amalia and Mancia have pathological boundary issues with their adult children. The difference between them is that Mancia does what she does deliberately and with forethought -- notice how she decided where she would collapse -- while Amalia is very haphazard. She doesn't think on her feet. If her previous parenting were all this inconsistent no wonder Maria is such a mess.

I don't think either of those Smothers wants their child to be happy in love. Amalia is afraid Maria will ultimately have what she thought she never had herself while Mancia is clearly afraid to face the fact that Susanito is an adult and a sexual being.

Both of these women need shrinks as do their children. Susanito seems now to be the stronger of the two children because he's finally fighting back. Maria needs to separate from her mother if she is going to mature and Amalia needs the shrink even more so she doesn't mess up Paloma and Isabel.

Well, I'm ready to eat my words now. A few weeks back I wrote that Maria wasn't nearly as irritating to me as the women in STuD, CS, LQNPA and that one with Maite, William, Victoria, et al, which I can't remember right now.

I HAVE gotten to the point now where I am so irritated by not just Amalia, but now Maria, that I don't want to watch anymore. Of course, I can't stop watching totally. I just watch until Maria opens her mouth and then I watch HGTV for a few minutes. Of course I am annoyed with JA for not explaining the whole thing to Maria, but it comes as no surprise as he is such a marshmallow when she is concerned.

I especially appreciate all you recappers when I get to this point as it is less irritating to read about Maria's stupidity than to watch it unfold in front of me!

I am happy that the episodes are doubled up as I won't have to listen to Maria's whining nearly as long! In the meantime, I have to stay tuned in as I am definitely on Team Irasema!

(small A anita)

Come on, writers; all you need to do is have Santos rush into "The three people who tried to kill me laundered money through my company. I had nothing to do with it but I took bad advice and ran to Mexico instead of talking to the police immediately."

At this rate, no preamble and he can get those words out before Maria can shut him up. While she's still standing there with her jaw on the floor he can add "I didn't tell you because you would have been arrested for aiding a fugitive."

[Sigh and eye roll]

I detest Maria and Amelia. Can't help it but they are just irritating beyond belief. Both of them are sanctimonious hypocrites. Can't stand lies and then Maria tells the whopper to Santos which even shocked Amelia. The worst of it is that she did it in front of her young sister. Shameful and sickening.

Poor Isa all she wants is a father. It was heartbreaking last night when she said she never had a father like Paloma and Maria. The little girl needs a man in her life and both Maria and Amelia seem oblivious to it or don't care. No wonder the poor little mite feels nobody loves her. She alone of everybody knows that Santos is a good and honorable man, everybody else has to hear it in words.

Irasema has a good head on her shoulders. She like Fernando is giving Santos solid advise-fight for what you want. Santos' weakness is that he was raised in privilege, pretty much had whatever he wanted and never had to fight for it. He doesn't know how and thus we see his moping and swilling shots. Forget about useless Maria and start working with your brain and your father and clear your name and yes the family name which has been smeared as well.

I'm glad Irasema called Suesanito on his caving into to his mother. She can see where their relationship would be with Mancia's constant nagging. Sh has a good reason to cut and run on the relationship and maybe force Suesanito to grow up. He is completed dominated by his mother and by Coloso and the sheep.

Poor Ana, moaning about Fernando after she stupidly gives him an ultimatum about looking for and defending Santos. Guess the poor thing never heard about Bros before Hos. LOL

Apparently keeping silent until you get through the first trimester doesn't apply in Mexico because now that maria told Coloso and Santos told Pru it will be all over the barrio with the speed of light.

Great recap, Kat! You always cut to the chase. You know how I love your recapping style. Bravo!

I was glad that Isabel spilled the beans, so we don't have endless episodes with Maria keeping the truth from a sadsack JAntos. You can see how his face lit up when he heard the truth. He knows--and I think Maria knows too--that she'll NEVER get rid of him now, and that eventually she'll cave. I thought Maria's expression when Isa blurted out the truth was funny. She had this "Oh crap, I'm busted" look on her face.

Yes, I'm sick of Susanito getting pushed around by his mom. Let's hope he sticks to his guns now!

Yikes, ANOTHER fistfight between Colosso and JAntos in the next episode? They need to give us a little more variety in this show! It's like lather, rinse, repeat right now.

BTW, I was doing my screencapping thing and decided to screencap a scene from this episode. (I struggled with Blogger's formatting, alas.) Here's the page with the screencaps. It's on my own blogspot blog.

Elvira

Cool pictures.

Last night Santos really showed how annoyed he was with Amelia and her lecturing and interference. I thought it hilarious when she told him to leave or else she get him out another way. I guess she was going to sic her dog on him unless she has some beefy dude hidden in her closet.

I wish he would just have said to both the Mendoza's shut up and sit down and listen and then told the story. As annoying as it is that Maria and other won't listen it is equally annoying that he pussyfoots around the subject. Just spell it out, talking over them if necessary. Well, I live and hope.

I have to confess that I'm not watching this one any more, I'm following the recaps and watching on the night I have to recap but on other nights I just watch the Food Network and my recordings of Judge Judy. I just can't stand Coloso or stupid Maria and her stupid mom.

I'm thinking that we are about to shift the focus from Whiny and Mopey to the other characters and the search for the truth. No one can be expected to continue to watch a program with characters awash in self pity.

The biggest problem I have now is that almost all of the characters have become unlikeable. The Mariachi's have always been a little dicey with their frat boy antics and sheeplike following of Coloso who has never been likable to me. Amelia has been a PITA from the beginning and it struck me lately that all that loving mother routine seems to focus mainly on Maria like the others are loved but afterthoughts.
Mancia has turned Susanito into a whimp and the wenches while well meaning keep reinforcing Amelia's attitudes.

If it weren't for Fernando, Justo, Isa and the old ladies my quitting point would have been reached days ago. Now I'm stuck waiting to see all the disbelievers get their comeuppance and Amelia and Maria pay for their treatment of Santos and their lies about Isa.

The worst thing is that when the truth comes out everybody if likely to be all buddy buddy with Santos like all this poop never happened. I would find it very hard for forgive and forget and let them back into my life like I had before./

Maria - done with her. FF-worthy
Santos - just go, clear your name, then set up child support direct-deposit payments and visitation rights. No need to ever speak to the martyr again.
Amalia - beyond done with her. FF; FF; FF; FF to infinity and beyond.
Fernando - true friend. Help clear Santos, open a bar (in partnership w/Santos) to compete w/Concho featuring the baby mariachi "El Jalisquito" and female mariachis. Let Ana come to you if she wants, but make her work for it.
Irasema - also a true friend (to JA). Go to school, then work for Fernando as his accountant. Forget the mama's boy - not worth it.
Susanito - namby pamby mama's boy. He's spoken to his mother a few times before about respecting him and his relationship, but always goes back meekly, "yes, mama" and never follows through. Does not deserve Irasema. Go back to being the butt of the mariachis' jokes - THAT you deserve.
Coloso - done with him. Keep trying to get Maria to love you for the rest of your life with no results until your "chiquita" becomes your "viejita" then sing about it.

Santos and Irasema should become good (better) friends, then soul mates, then in love, then married, then parents and live happily ever after. Santos can still see and support his child with Maria, but doesn't necessarily have to end up with her. (I know it won't happen, but would be great if it would.)

Why do Maria and Amalia deserve to be punished about Isabel? If there is no criminal penalty for adopting an abandoned infant other than a fine, what wrong have they really done? Would Isabel have been better off in an orphanage? I don't think so.

Also, Maria would have been a minor so it's unlikely she would suffer any penalty. If any such thing would result in Isabel being taken away from them, that would not be good for Isabel at this point.

We don't know who abandoned Isabel and we have 71 (normal-length) episodes left to find out.

I doubt that the clearing of Santos' name and the disclosure of his true identity and position is going to affect much beyond making Elvirus more determined to take him away from Maria, even if she doesn't get him for herself. Amalia will be more determined to believe that he used Maria and will toss her aside. If Maria is still pregnant then the hormones will get in the way of her seeing that her mother is dead wrong once again.

Urban

My feeling about Amelia and Maria deserving to suffer for what they did to isa isn't that thy took her in, it is that they are hiding the adoption if in fact an adoption took place. We think that the child is somewhere between 7 and 9 and should have been told something. They are waiting too long and when the truth comes out there will be hell to pay and they will have a very disillusioned child on their hands.

Urban,

You are right that for the most part nothing will change with the Mendoza's when the truth comes out and Amelia will be more convinced than ever that Santos only wanted Maria for what he could get from her. She really has a low opinion of me except for Coloso for some ungodly reason. Oh yeah Elvira will be hot in pursuit and totally wasting her time and Maria will be all over the place being tedious. Santo's true friends, the old ladies, Fernando and Irasema will be vindicated and Sue and Ana can crawl back and grovel for forgiveness. The rest of the crowd in the DF doesn't really matter in the long run.

If any novela ever needed a priest counselling the characters it is this one. LOL

Maria has never said whether she believes Santos is innocent or not. Presumably her "corazon" fell in love with a good man, as she repeatedly told her friends and her mother. Why then does she now totally ignore that fact? And to make matters worse, when poor innocent little Isa asks her point blank, "Mi papito is a bad man then?" She stupidly says "yes." WTH? She's so selfishly playing the victim about what he did to her that she doesn't even care how she's totally devastating the poor child. Even if she totally believed he's a criminal, the "dulce" and "bondadosa" Maria would certainly find a better way to explain to the little girl. Hijole, what a selfish narcissist! Hate her.

hee, hee, the robot thingie is "Nakedar" (to get naked?)

I was really annoyed last night with Maria constantly saying she hates lies more than anything when she and her mother are telling such a big lie to Isa... And she'll probably defend herself saying it was what was best for Isa. So, if Santos lies to protect her, that's an unforgivable lie, but if she lies to Isa that's okay. Sure, Maria, whatever.

I am very surprised there is no priest in this story. It's not like the writers couldn't have added one, since the writers of FELS added a really charming priest to that story.

Amalia very conveniently has forgotten that Santos used three sets of money he could have used to get home to do things for her family. No selfish predator would have done any of this. He could probably have "seduced" Maria sooner than he did had he worked at it a little harder but he didn't.

Amalia is selfish and narrow-minded and has no desire to allow anything to upset her idea of what their lives should be like. She favors Oscar because he one paid a huge medical bill of hers... which Maria has since paid back (God knows how long that took). Maria has been the principle breadwinner in that house for who knows how long now and deserves far more respect than Amalia has been giving her for that.

As for lying to Isabel about her being adopted by not telling her, we don't know that Maria and Amalia haven't argued about this in the past. We also don't know why Amalia never told Isabel. Since I don't know anyone who was adopted I have no idea when a child should be told or how. (Amalia might be too stupid to have figured this out herself.) It's possible that she might fear being arrested for having taken Isabel in without reporting the finding of her to the appropriate authorities, but one has to wonder about her motive for this coming on the heels of her husband's death. Another child was the last thing she needed.

Maria should probably know the consequences from having learned about it in law school, so (other than sloppy writing) how did this subject not come up before?

Since they've made such an issue of Isa wanting a father and the fact that she isn't a Mendoza they have to tie up that loose end sooner or later. Maybe then we'll know if Maria and Mama ever discussed it, they sure didn't tell Paloma much when she overhead them. Isa senses something or otherwise we probably wouldn't hear the endless nobody loves me. Obviously they do but she feels something is missing. I just hope they don't wait till the final episode and just dump it on her and have everything be rosy.

It's that bothersome "llamada de la sangre" in reverse. Isabel somehow does not feel connected to Amalia, Maria, or Paloma, although it is obvious that they love her.

Paloma would have been too young at that time to understand what was happening. If Amalia was afraid she would go to prison for this she would never have told her anything then.

This could easily be Maria's motive for studying law.

If Isabel was already a little drama queen in the making before the opening episode, we could cut Amalia some slack over this. However now that this particular cat is out of the bag, Amalia has to deal with it.

I believe Maria does think Jorge Alfredo is guilty of whatever crime he's being accused of. Furthermore I believe she WANTS him to be guilty to justify how she's acting. Otherwise she'd listen to his story. She doesn't want to listen because she knows she will believe what he has to say. So he needs to be a guilty delincuente to justify her behavior.

Also, she and Amalia both need to believe that Jorge Alfredo used Maria for sex & is now abandoning her because of her pregnancy.

Maria needs to believe Santos used her for sex to get out of taking responsibility for her own sexuality and so she can continue playing the victim.

Amalia needs to believe Jorge Alfredo used Maria for sex so she can ignore the fact that Maria willingly opened her legs for Jorge Alfredo and has wanted to do so since she met JA but didn't b/c she's a "good girl" and because she doesn't want to accept the fact that Maria WANTS to engage in sexual activity. Plus she doesn't like JA anyway.

Both of them know good and well Jorge Alfredo NEVER used Maria for sex. A man is not going to spend ALL his money (3X!) and bust out of police custody in another country to come back to you if all he wanted was a little sex. He's not going to undergo a blood transfusion for your little sister if all he wanted was a little sex. In fact, if all he wanted was a little sex he could've had Elvira and all the Saucy Wenches if that's all he wanted. So Amalia & Maria need to stop.

Isabel doesn't feel connected to the rest of them because Amalia is all "Mi Cielo, Mi Vida" to Maria but "Go sit down somewhere" to Isabel.

I don't think Maria has that much Catholic guilt or why is there no priest character to make it worse? I do think she is scared to death of how she really feels about him specifically because of serious inexperience.

I do buy your argument about Amalia. She knows that Santos is not from the same barrio in the human race as she and her husband were. What really makes no sense is why she can't see that Maria is not the sort of daughter to leave her behind. She's like King Lear who resented the idea of losing any of his daughters' love to their husbands because she's stupid enough to see it as quantifiable.

And not to realize this.
