La Tempestad, Cap. 10, Friday, August 9: No offense, dude, but my hands smell like fish.

Demetrius:
Do I entice you? do I speak you fair?
Or, rather, do I not in plainest truth
Tell you, I do not, nor I cannot love you?

Helena:
And even for that do I love you the more.
I am your spaniel; and, Demetrius,
The more you beat me, I will fawn on you*

*A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act II, scene 1.

The old:
Hernán has a post-dinner tantrum.  Marina snaps at DamFab for walking into her office without knocking -- "Didn't anyone teach you better?" When DamFab attributes her petty tyranny to jealousy, Marina is all "Me, jealous?"  ¡Está usted loco!

The new:
Hernán Haskell, a vision in tight orange pants, breezes into Marina's office with a chirpy "Buenos días" and then, noticing the glaring contest between the two pretty protagonistas, asks if he is interrupting anything.  DamFab sighs and mockingly repeats Marina's reproach: "Didn't they teach you to knock?"  Marina puts on a show for DamFab's benefit, greeting HH warmly, thanking him for the wonderful evening, kissing his cheek.

That Esthercita is being fitted for her wedding gown doesn't keep her from needling her with-friends-like-this-who-needs-enemies best friend, Mayuya.   Behind her, the seamstress warns Esthercita to stop fidgeting or she's going to stick her with a pin.
[Do it! someone calls from the Patio.]
Mayuya stares up at the preening little E.  If looks could kill...

Hernán extends his hand: "Hernán Saldaña, capitán."  DamFab keeps his own arms crossed on his chest: "No offense, but my hands smell like fish."  But H is offended and Marina rushes to his defense.  When H leans over to kiss Marina's hand, DamFab snickers.  But when Hernán pulls out his wallet to pay the captain for risking his life and saving Marina, DamFab stops smiling.  He reminds H that not everything is for sale.

As DamFab exits, we catch a glimpse of the Sabritas machine in the hallway.  And we are reassured that, whatever her problems, Marina will always have something to nosh on.

DamFab makes his way to La Guacamaya and asks Candy for a beer.  Candy is thinking of adding entertainment to the joint.  She can sing and dance.  In a scanty costume?  What if the crowd gets a little rowdy?  Candy isn't worried.  The clients are all her friends.

Hernán Gasbag blathers on while Marina absently taps her pen.   "What's so great about Captain DamFab anyway?  He's just a crude, uneducated fisherman."  Marina, who seems to have a very short memory, is forced to agree.  Yesterday she was dazzled by DamFab's heroics (hazañas) but today she sees that he really is nobody special.

Lara, one of the crooked cops, sidles up to DamFab at the bar. DamFab moves away but Lara takes his beer and follows him to his table. Lara cackles at the thought of the captain married to the cacique's crazy daughter.  Candy hears this and tells Lara to watch his mouth.  But he ignores her and starts in on Marina: DamFab threw her overboard and she still opted to spend a whole day on the boat with him.

Dam is dangerously quiet. Lara keeps running his mouth:
¡A ver si la volvías a mojar!
(I wonder if you'll get her wet again!)
Lara cracks himself up.  He pokes DamFab's arm, inviting him to share the joke.  DamFab turns smoothly and WHAM.  POW. DamFab wipes the floor with him.

Nobody gets to joke about his personal life!

Hernán Haskell has an idea that is sure to lift Marina's spirits.  He is going to take her to the most wonderful place in the world -- la cueva de la orchidea (the orchid cave).

Oh my stars!  Ful-of-himself-io stares across his desk at the federal official, Comandante Robles.  We cannot see the belt buckle of el tal Robles but we do see a large shiny badge hanging close to his heart.  [So much gravitas in one room. How do they fit it in?]

Robles explains he has come to investigate a very serious anonymous complaint.  He can't get into details but they suspect trafficking in women.  Color Fulgencio shocked!

In a run-down house on the outskirts of town, Jazmín tries to cheer up the new girl, Betina. But Betina won't deny her tragedy.  How can Jaz ask her to smile when:
lo que tengo es ganas de gritar, de llorar.  Me siento muerto por dentro.
(I feel like screaming, like crying.  I feel dead inside.)

Fulgencio laughs dismissively.  Trafficking in women?  In this little town where nothing ever happens?  But Comandante Unibrow knows better -- the unspeakable happens in the quietest of places.  They are launching a federal investigation.  And they have a description of a woman that coincides with a missing person.

Fulgencio sputters his disbelief.  And in any case, they have their own police department, their own methods of investigation…

…which Robles has determined to be useless (no sirven para nada).  But hey, the local guys are welcome to cooperate.  Count on it, says Fulgencio.  The two Éminences Gros shake hands.

Once the feds leave, Fulgencio fumes and curses and wonders who  made the anonymous call.

Inoffensive Olinto is punching holes in sheets of paper and placing them in a looseleaf binder.

Who?  Damn it, who?

Olinto is thinking of a frightened woman he found on the beach, how he helped her escape and gave her money to get to the capital.  He wonders if his anonymous call did any good.  And he hopes the girl is okay.

Ciudad de México
Hey, Olinto, she's good. It turns out that Soraya is the relative she was hoping to find and now that gold-hearted ex-pro has brought her to Mercedes' house.  Young Norma fills Mercedes in on the gruesome  trade.  There are so many abducted women on the islands.  She would never have been able to get away without the help of a very good man -- Olinto!

Back in Nuestra Señora del Mar
DamFab walks through the dark cave of the orchids and stops near a pool (could be limpid -- too dark to tell) and a cluster of brilliant yellow flowers.  He remembers his spat with Marina and how OrangePants muscled in on their glare fest.  It only happened a few hours ago but it is already sepia-colored, as befits the breakfast bar generation.

Then DamFab hears Marina's actual voice telling the orange-legged H-boy that the place is incredible.  H grins and plays tour guide.  Marina spots DamFab's golden head, frowns slightly, but says nothing.  She leaves with H for his yacht and DamFab goes off in the opposite direction.

Beatriz gets a sudden sharp pain in her chest.  She can't breathe.  She collapses and José catches her as she falls to the sidewalk.  By an incredible stroke of luck, DamFab has returned from the cave and is right on the scene.  Now he rushes to Bea and stays with her while José gets the car.  Bea, barely conscious, begs DamFab not to tell her daughter.  Marina has enough problems as it is.

At the moment, Marina's biggest problem is Hernán.  They are aboard his yacht where he is plying her with martinis.  She gives him the short version of how she ended up in Nuestra Señora del Mar ("My mother has a little tumor").  And he declares his love for her.

Esthercita and her pack mule, Mayuya, return to the Salazar home laden with bags and boxes, all of them gifts that Little E has bought for herself.

Marina is puzzled by Hernán's declaration.  How can he be in love with her when they haven't seen each other for years?  He has loved her in silence all this time, he tells her.  And now he would like her to be his wife. [Easy there, OrangePants -- are you emotionally tone-deaf?  Could this woman be any less encouraging?]

While Marina is sipping martinis with a love-sick criminal, DamFab is toting her mother like a not especially heavy sack of avocados.  He eases her into the back seat of José's car.  José tells DamFab he is just like his father.  Dam hardly remembers his dad -- he was just a kid when he died.  Or when he was murdered.  DamFab is determined to find out the truth about his father's death! [Oh ho!  Do I detect plot thickening?]

Hernán goes for the kiss and Marina pushes him away.  She feels she doesn't know him at all.  He is so different now.  And she is frankly  disconcerted by all this.  That's okay, he can wait.  He just wants a chance.  In the end, he knows he'll win her love.

Crooked cop Valdivia asks Fulgencio if he wants him to "take care of" the comandante for him.  "¡No seas imbécil!" explodes Fulgencio.  Right now the feds are untouchable.  Robles followed the trail of the two women that Nereo bought, one of whom escaped.  As for the other one, Jazmín, Nereo had better make sure that no one sees her.

H brings Marina home and once more goes for the kiss.  And once more, she rejects him:  she doesn't accept kisses from someone she has no feelings for. [Ouch.  You almost feel sorry for the guy.  Even if he did try to blow up La Tempestad.  Oh yeah.  So maybe not.]

José is waiting inside with the news of Bea's spell, her treatment at the hospital and her return home after being seen by Dr. San Miguel.  Marina rushes to her mother's bedroom where the madrina is sitting with her.  Bea has an oxygen mask on her face.  Her lips are alarmingly pale.  When Marina begins to thank the madrina, the lady sets her straight: "Thank the person who helped your mother in the street and accompanied her to the hospital."  "Who is that?" asks Marina.

Enter DamFab.  "You have nothing to thank me for, señorita."  He didn't exactly save her mother's life. And if he didn't call Marina, it was because Bea didn't want him to.  Besides, she was on a date with OrangePants.

Bea pooh poohs the fuss.  It was just a fainting spell and she's much better now.  But that Captain DamFab is a peach!

Dam tells Marina to forget the packing plant for now and stay with her mother.  She gets all prickly, offended that he is telling her what to do.  That's not it at all -- he knows what a beautiful thing it is to have a mother.  [If you're keeping Moral Score, the captain clearly wins this round.]

Marina follows DamFab out into the street to thank him again for helping her mother.  He would have done the same for anyone, he tells her.  "Oh why do you have to be so hateful?" pouts Marina.

The madrina stands a little apart from them and seems amused.

Marina and DamFab do their little dance.  Dos-à-dos and zing your partner.  DamFab gets last licks: "You have a piece of ice where your heart should be!"

On the beach, the madrina gives DamFab her blessing and heads off -- there's something she has to do.

Lázaro tells DamFab about his run-in with his sanctimonious pill of a mother.  That's why he missed work.  But he's coming back and he'll make up the hours.  And yes, he did connect with a cute girl in the bar.  But no, nothing happened.  Except that they are in love.

Madrina is with Marina and she is going to reveal a significant truth.  No  cards, no snails, no nothing.  Because Madrina was born early and she KNOWS things.

She has felt it since the time in the wood when she dreamed about Marina -- Marina, the woman named for the sea.  Then when she saw her, she recognized her right away -- she has the same distinguished air her father had.

Valdivia brings Hernán up to date.  First the bad news:  One of Nereo's women escaped.  Then the worse news:  the federal police are investigating.

Marina is surprised by what the madrina has just said.  Did she know her father?  She did.  And she always knew that one day, Marina would be back.

Marina is puzzled.  She has never been here before.

Madrina chuckles.  Maybe her brain wiped out the memory, but surely not her heart.  But she was so young.  Perhaps that's why she doesn't remember.

Is she confusing her with someone else?  No.  Madrina never gets it wrong.  (Yo jamás me confundo.)
[I do love this phrase.  It's a shame I will never get to use it in life.]

Marina's father used to come for a day or two at a time to check on his business -- the empacadora.  "You know, the one you inherited."

Whoa!  The madrina needs to check her facts.  Marina didn't inherit the plant; she was hired as its administrator and made a partner.  Pshaw!  Just destiny's version of probate court, says the madrina dismissively.

Her father brought her to the pueblo only once but she always knew Marina would come back.  She was 4 or 5 and she spent that whole day playing with the son of her father's best friend, a boy of 7 or 8.  They got along like good friends; and they also got into mischief together.  It was Damián's idea, but Marina went along with it.  The madrina was sure they'd both remember it...

[We see two children leaving their handprints in wet cement.]

…but she guesses she was wrong.  They both forgot. [Although please see above: she never gets it wrong!]

We're starting to worry that Marina may not be as smart as we thought.  Didn't she hear the madrina call the boy "Damián"?  Anyway, now she asks who her father's friend was.

And the madrina tells her: he was a man he cared for and admired so much that he even gave him a boat -- La Tempestad.  That man was Captain Michel Fabré, may he rest in peace.

"Then..."

"Yes. That boy who was your friend was none other than my godson, Damián Fabré."

Avances:  Lots of-in-your face buckling of swashes.  Don't worry.  It's too early for anyone important to be killed. I think.

Thank you, NovelaMaven, that was great!

So the plot does thicken...
Not only are Mercedes, Fully, Delfina and all the other oldies in town connected by the past, so are our two protagonistas.

If Ariel owned the company, how did it end up in Mercedes' hands? And how come Beatriz doesn't know about this???

Funny how Dam took Marina on his boat and she was sea sick the entire time, but when Hernan takes her to his yacht, she's not sea sick, just sick of his love declaration.
I'm glad she pointed out the obvious, they just met, what is this enamorado nonsense?

Love your recap, NovelaMaven! So many great snarks and nicknames....OrangePants and all the rest.

So do you think Beatriz will finally let up on Hernan being the perfect man for Marina now that the galan Damian came to her rescue? And speaking of Hernan, his behavior is downright menacing. Marina has been discouraging re: his advances, and he still doesn't let up.

And Damian just keeps getting better....y mas guapo:)

Oh my, as usual, haven't seen this yet, but decided to enjoy the recap anyway. (Like eating dessert first, a practice I highly recommend.)

"Preening little E." (Lordy, this girl is unbearable

A ver si las volvías mojar" Now THERE was a double entendre! Glad Dam Fab decked him.

"(could be limpid--too dark to tell)" hehe

"packmule Mayuya" (not a sympathetic character but can't blame her for loathing little E.)

Now...is this Cave of the Orchids the same one that figured so charmingly in Marina's wet dream about DamFab?

Love all the coincidences, past entanglements and the Power of Destiny, yo-jamás-me-confundo-madrina style.

If Hernán Gasbag Orange Pants were aware of that, he'd know he had nooooo chance. Still, his clothing selection alone damns him for any chance of future happiness anyway.

Dress like a man, Hernán! You need a nice sloppy pair of middle-age Dockers and some lowered expectations for a love interest. Tain't gonna be Marina, boy.

Novella Maven - thank you for the recap. . . And the snark. ;-)

"Dos-à-dos and zing your partner" --- ROFLOL

I almost can't wait to get home so I can start watching this, just so I can see Hernan's flaming rainbow of pants. Dude.....

Adriana Noel - you are a telenovela novice? It is almost one of the rules that people meet and are madly in love after, oh, say, fifteen minutes.

So.... The Sabritas vending machine is the latest form of creative product placement. Is that a beverage?

""Madrina is with Marina and she is going to reveal a significant truth. . . Because Madrina was born early and she KNOWS things.""
Or maybe because she is BFFs with the producer of TempeStud. ;-)

Doris, I'm hardly a novice, been watching for 20 years :))
But some stories still drive me insane...

Novela Maven....beautifully done! I'm sitting here in LA with my morning tea and your recap enjoying some wonderful laughs.

I'm liking the Madrina more and more. She reminds me so much of my Italian grandmother who was known to the locals in South Philly as "the good witch" for both her psychic and healing powers. ( actually, she was a nurse who dabbled in the stock market and did remarkably well...but I think it was more foresight than actual psychic ability.....things in the old neighborhood get exaggerated with the passage of time).

The novellas make the mystery fun!. When is Marina going to walk across those cute little hand prints in the cement?

Did I see this actress who plays Dam's god mother play a shaman In another novella with David Zepada??

Was she also the not-so-nice servant to Daniella Romo in "Alborada?" Gertie

NovelaMaven - what a hoot of a recap.
"Oh ho! Do I detect plot thickening?"
"(Yo jamás me confundo. I do love this phrase. It's a shame I will never get to use it in life.
but she guesses she was wrong." "They both forgot. [Although please see above: she never gets it wrong!]"
"We're starting to worry that Marina may not be as smart as we thought. Didn't she hear the madrina call the boy "Damián"? Anyway, now she asks who her father's friend was."
Thank you!

Adriana Noel - "If Ariel owned the company, how did it end up in Mercedes' hands? And how come Beatriz doesn't know about this???" I don't ask too many questions. I simply watch and wait for the story to unfold and surprise/confuse me.. bwaaahahaha

JudyB - I snickered over Lara's double entendre, which got him decked.

NovelaMaven - Great recap. I missed the first half, but thanks to you I feel like I saw the whole thing. My favorite lols:

"Dos-a-dos and zing your partner"

"So much gravitas in one room. How do they fit it in?"

From the promos, I thought Hernan was going to give DamFab more competition. I almost feel sorry for Hernan, till I remember he was behind the attack on La Tempestad.

NovelaMaven--Already, the best lines have been quoted and requoted, I can only sit by the limpid pool and admire your craft from afar.

What a hoot to resurrect El Tal...

La T revisits El T -- The following are allusions (or illusions) to our favorite worst telenovela ever.

"We cannot see the belt buckle of el tal Robles but we do see a large shiny badge hanging close to his heart."

"Comandante Unibrow knows better -- the unspeakable happens in the quietest of places."

"DamFab walks through the dark cave of the orchids and stops near a pool (could be limpid -- too dark to tell) and a cluster of brilliant yellow flowers."

Wish there were some way to work in Orange Pants, but Boda Bag Tony wouldn’t have been caught dead in them—and he wasn’t (Best death scene on record, in all our humble opinions).

Thanks, NovelaMaven, for giving me some morning smiles. I'm trying to resist this one, but did see part of this episode. The cute kids and the handprints screamed "destiny."

Terrific as always NM, Muchas gracias.

¡Yo siempre me confundo!

Where does Hernán do his shopping?
Fab Dam should have asked Hernán how much, so Marina would have known how much she was worth.

Madrina hasn't heard about the no spoiler rule.
We know who Marina's mom is although she doesn't. And now we are getting close to who her father was. I would have asked his name, but not Mejia.

We know who Fab Dam's pop was but we haven't heard a word about his mom. We know it can't be Mercedes, incest rule. Could it be Beatriz?

Marina doesn't connect the name of the boy she played with as a child. ¡Por favor! not another CI where no one connects anything

Thanks for the recap, NovelaMaven. My favorites:

"As DamFab exits, we catch a glimpse of the Sabritas machine in the hallway. And we are reassured that, whatever her problems, Marina will always have something to nosh on."
And "Marina and DamFab do their little dance. Dos-à-dos and zing your partner"

What a rainbow of skinny jeans we're getting from Hernan! We've seen red and mint green, and last night we had orange and aqua. I'll be terribly disappointed if he doesn't wear a hot pink pair by the gran final.

Hernan trying to pay Dam Fab for saving Marina's life was SO disrespectful, not only to Dam but to Marina too. Then again, I suppose a person involved in human trafficking wouldn't understand the concept about people not being worth money. Seedier still was Lara's comment about Marina. Blech!

As much as I sympathize with Hystercita, she really can be such an entitled little brat. I see redemption in her future, but not until she's completed a rigorous course in humility.

I am SO happy that Dam Fab helped Beatriz. Maybe she'll finally shut her pie hole about Hernan now. Or at least see Damian in a better light.

That cute bodyguard/chofer is one of my favorite characters for some reason. He's so sweet. Is there romance for him and Bea in the future, or is he way too young? Haha

Wonderful NovelaMaven! My cable went out on me last night, so I missed this episode.

I love that the plot is thickening even further and Dam and Marina already met each other as kids. Sounds like she would be too young to remember, but at age 7 or so, he might have a vivid memory of it.

Variopinta- We already know who Marina's dad is. It's the same man she grew up with, knowing he was her father, Ariel Reverte. It's not a surprise that he knew Dam's dad since Mercedes knew Dam's dad (and loved him).

The real mystery is when did Beatriz meet Ariel and take on the role of Marina's mama? She doesn't seem to know the town or anyone it in, so somehow Ariel met her somewhere else. She told Marina that she and Ariel met by the sea, so was it somewhere close by?

I could see Ariel giving the business to Mercedes after she became pregnant or had his twins, as a way of securing her financial stability, or because he wanted her to eventually give the business to his daughters-- which she has started to do by giving Marina 50% of the biz. I bet the other 50% is intended for Magdalena.

Bailey Marie--
Arturo Carmona is also one of my favorite actors, underemployed galan material, in my opinion.

I certainly hope there is nothing in the future for him and Bea. They were in La Verdad Oculta a number of years ago (2006) and there was a huge age gap between them (he played a handsome young architect, interested in someone age-appropriate) and she was already leaning toward senior citizen status.

Vivi--It looks like we may have to start an Operation Shine the Light for La Temp, as we did in Amor Bravio. These relationships are so interconnected it's making my head spin!

NovelaMaven:

Marvelous, superb recap and Will S. Too! I really like how you quote him in your recaps.

I really didn't get to see all of this epi, but I did see the Orchid
Cave scene. Herny's disappointment is gonna be his undoing I think.

So now look who is stalking Marina? Dam Fab. Hmmmm.....

I love Sergio Reynoso in this role. I will have to see if I can watch this epi on Hulu later. I am glad he is a good cop in this one. He was a good guy led astray in Mar de Amor, and played Maria Sorte's husband in that one, lol.

So Marina and Dam Fab have a past as kids, that was interesting. I too wonder if Marina will see those handprints.

Seems everyone is tied to everyone else in this TN. Mercedes knew both Michel and Ariel. Did she know Fully I wonder? I can't wait to see how all these threads combine into a tapestry!

José, Arturo Carmona was the dad to Helena's hijo in PESE. I think he has been working out, he is so much better looking here.

NovelaMaven: Another triumph. You mold these recaps from the basest material and craft words of art.

Most of your priceless lines have already been quoted but my favorite by far was "Lots of in your face buckling of swashes". As usual, I laughed and enjoyed this thoroughly. Wonderful.

Hernan's repeated attempts to woo (or even mildly interest) Marina are an utter failure. Dude, she is just not into you! Get a grip. And his unfortuate wardrobe color choices, pathetic. As Judy noted "Still, his clothing selection alone damns him for any chance of future happiness anyway". 'Nuff said.

Bailey Marie, I like your comment for Hystercita's redemption attained by "...a rigorous course in humility".

Variopinta, good thought that Beatriz might be Damian's mother...

Anita, I think Arturo Carmona (one of my favs too) is destined for romance with someone who has not yet appeared. I think it will be a good match :) LVO was great (missing EY, sigh...)

Madelaine, stalking is NEVER good. Since it IS WL, let's just say he is keeping tabs on Marina, ;)

Thanks again Novela Maven!

Diana

If Bea were Damian's mother, wouldn't she know it? Apparently he looks exactly like his father, and he has the same last name, so...I think that rules Bea out. Plus, Delfina and Fulgencio don't seem to know her and they knew Dam's mom.

NVMV--And how could I forget this El Tal gem:

"While Marina is sipping martinis with a love-sick criminal, DamFab is toting her mother like a not especially heavy sack of avocados."

BTW, I'm all for having some kind of Emporium, Mart, Outlet or Filene's for La T.

How about THE STORM CELLAR-BAY™? We could even offer gently used, pre-owned wear and other items, as long as they are clearly labeled?

My first offer would be:
Tight-fitting men's pants (white belt included) in a range of primary colors. Pre-shrunk to a diminutive size through the crotch. Used once per episode (actor complained that they made his voice two octaves higher and made him play the violin).

At 50 pesos a pair, they are a bargain.

Orange ones, being harder to find, are 100 pesos. Hurry, only one left in stock. Can ship overnight air express, but to el Pueblo de Nuestra Señora del Mar it must be shipped by fast launch. (Insurance extra)

I hated Arturo Carmona in CCEA (the only other one I've seen him in), but he is completely likeable, and I agree, attractive in this.

I just remembered... I love the salsa band in La Guayamaca! I would so love to go dancing there.

Thank you NovelaMaven for this wonderful recap!

Arturo Carmona was recently in Corona De Lagrimas. He played a good guy there. He was in love with Victoria Ruffo's character but she only saw him as a friend. She was much too busy crying about her doucebag eldest son Patricio to have time for love. LOL

Doris:
Sabritas are potato chips.

Great Recap! Maybe Hernan would have a better time wooing Marina if he stopped choosing his clothes Garanimals style...
MC

"Garanimals style..." Great!

That's it, Hernán is doomed to no love no way.

Excellent recap NovelaMaven. Hilarious and very crisply written. In addition to lines already mentioned, I especially admire:

"It only happened a few hours ago but it is already sepia-colored..."

and

"[Oh ho! Do I detect plot thickening?]"

but then I was a little disappointed to learn:

"No cards, no snails, no nothing."

Heck.

The martinis looked inviting but seemed a little improbable on the boat in those stemmed cocktail glasses. Tippee Tommees might have been more practical.

Carlos

Dearest Novela Maven:
Now THAT is a recap. Yes, it is you long missing amiga, Elna June, weighing in to say that you did a masterful job, as always, of putting me in the picture of La Tempestad. Thank you so much.

Hola a todos mis amigos! I cannot believe how many of the folks who commented on today's recap are (to me) familiar voices.

Also, NM, I hear you are interviewing for a Thursday recapper, full or part-time. I'll throw my hat in the ring.

Let the good times roll in Vera Cruz. Is that where we are or did I just make that up?

Thanks again for a great recap. I look forward to joining the team if Melinama approves the return of the Prodigal Daughter.

Elna June

OMG! It's a Festivus Miracle. Our beloved Elna June has returned to the fold. You can't imagine how much we've been missing you my dear. Welcome home, pull up a chair, and tell us how you are. Drinks are on me.

Carlos

Oh wow, this is my lucky day. All these gracious and witty comments -- thank you so much, folks!

And now this -- THE RETURN OF ELNA JUNE!!!!

I can't tell you how much I have missed you and what an absolute joy it is to see your delicate tootsie poised to plunge into the cement cenote.

WELCOME HOME, ELNA JUNE!!!!! WOOHOO!!!

Elna June sighting!!! And you're going to recap for us too?! Welcome back, amiga. We've missed you.

Anita:

The Storm Cellar-Bay™? And here I was thinking the Storm Cellar was already low end. But yeah, I like your merchandise suggestions. I'm all for recycling.

For the Storm Cellar itself, I'd like to see a supply of Plot Thickeners -- medium, hot and extra hot.

And may I nominate for Best Hair in Show: José (Arturo Carmona)

Oh and EJ, yes, we are indeed in Veracruz.

JudyB,

Speaking of Hernán Gasbag Orange Pants, if you had seen Iván Sánchez opposite Kate del Castillo in La Reina del Sur, you would have had a hard time imagining him as this evil nebbish.

It must be fun to be an actor. (At least some of the time.)

P.S. Did you see who's back???!!!

Yes, yes, yes, and as I was trying to shout out to Elna June and tell her how worried we'd been...and how happy we are now that we know she's fine, and just then-- our internet connection failed.

BUT, hip hip hooray..."Lulu's's back in town." And EJ, WE ARE HAPPY. AND WE WERE WORRIED. Lots of concerned emails have been going back and forth in the last months asking each other if anyone had heard from you.

But now we have! So happy..so glad. Hope the headaches are over and that you're ready to rumble on recaps.

Great job NM, you had me laughing so much my hubby wanted to read the recap! Looking forward to this rollercoaster ride.

So Dam loads Bea into the car, rather quickly...kind of a gentle toss. Then he quickly slams the door behind him, without looking to see if an arm or other body part might be dangling out of the door! For some reason it struck me as so funny, because he had been so careful with her and then turns, slams the door and takes off without a glance to see if he had chopped off something with the car door! Probably just my warped sense of humor.

Marea Primavera

Well, part of Hernán Haskell's lack of appeal is that his pants are actually TOO tight. The pockets bulge and flare, which they wouldn't if the fit was right. Lord knows, the man doesn't have an inch of flab on his body, but the wardrobe people still have him in a size too small.

So how was he in la Reina...hawt hawt hawt? I can well imagine.

"So how was he in la Reina...hawt hawt hawt?"

Oh yeah, JudyB

Marea Primavera,
That WAS a weird scene! At first I thought DamFab just dumped her in the car and left. I was sort of startled to see that by the next scene, he was in the back seat with her, cradling her head.

I'm glad you liked the recap.

NM thanks for another great recap. I enjoyed your zingers for HH. He, like more villains, is so clueless about Marina its painful.

EJ!! So great to see you here. I hope you are well and look forward to your recaps.

Thanks, , Novelamaven, for yet another smart and snappy recap.
The line I must point out is "destiny!s version of probate." That one gave me the giggles.

Has anyone pointed out that Fulgencio's henchman , the one with the blue embroidered badge on his crisp, white shirt , was La Poderosa's right hand man in Alborada and the diapered witch doctor in Destilando Amor ?

Adelberto Parra, ck him out, he has been in so many

OMG I just discovered this blog and it just made my day, which incidentally is also my bday and yet you still made it. this recap was fabulous; what a gem i just found buried in the sand on the beach somewhere near a runaway prostitute...i almost choked when you pointed out that madrina already said damian, and yet marina's like "who? your godson? what no way, they have the same name?!"

so i will def be revisiting and on a frequent basis. I LOVE how telenovas air multiple times per week. Take note, american television writers. I mean you, Pretty Little Liars Producers!! and also, thanks for slowing down the spanish so i can savor it. i would get more of it if it all wasnt so fast!

Welcome to Caray Caray, Unknown! :) And Happy Birthday ! :)

Hernan's puny attempt at throwing a "raging fit" when his dinner with Marina turned into a nerdfest (he of the electric blue jacket, boringly playing the violin for her) was funny. His little weak arms throwing stuff around and stopping short of destroying his violin for some reason really made me laugh. He still seems like a huge nerd to me. Maybe he thought that super tight skinny pants in all the colors of the rainbow were in and would make him look cool, but doesn't realize less is more. He's so far "in" that he's OUT! His coolness meter is stuck at geeky.

Add me to the chorus of welcoming you back, Elna June.

Can't wait to read your recaps!

Welcome, Unknown.

Diana

I finally saw the episode On Demand. In addition to the handprints, did anyone else notice that in the flashback to little Marina and little Damian, they were both wearing the same necklace? The camera focused on them for a few seconds. It looks like a barnacle or something, on both a silver and black leather chain. Damian still wears his, with a shark tooth added. I bet Marina will find hers at some point, which will jog her memory.

The Mercedes situation must have been awkward between Michel Fabre and Ariel Reverte. They were BFFs; and Mercedes was in love with one, and had children by the other. Since they were still BFFs when Marina was a kid, they must have gotten past the awkwardness. And we still don’t know how Damian’s mom fit into all of this, or when Beatriz came into the picture. I’m looking forward to learning all the back stories.

Novela Maven, what a complete and utter joy it is to savor your recap on this lovely (in my neck of the woods) Sunday morning. I can't even quote my favorite lines because there are too many, and anyway, they have already been mentioned. However I do love any quotes by the bard (Will always has the last word, is my motto, or the first in this case), loved the breakfast bar crack, and finally "Easy there, OrangePants --are you emotionally tone-deaf?"

And wow oh WOW. The return of Elna June!! This is the best news ever. Oh wait, no it's not; she's going to recap! Now THAT is the best news ever.

Welcome Anon, and a very happy birthday to you.

NM, I haven't had a chance to watch this capitulo yet, can't stream it where I am right now with the slowest internet connection ever, but at least I got to enjoy your snapping hot recap and will get to watch all these antics later. Gracias amiga!

Yes, welcome aboard and happy birthday!

Sylvia
Oh yes indeedy, the BEST NEWS EVER!
[NM does happy dance. You remember, like Snoopy used to do.]

I'm glad you liked my nod to Will. I know there are lots of people who roll their eyes when they see a hoity toity quote (though you, dear Cap'n, are not among them). But I'm afraid this isn't the end of it. I tend to incorporate whatever I'm reading or thinking about into what I write. And at the moment, I'm rereading a few plays. So don't say I didn't warn you. :D

Vivi
Thanks for pointing out the necklaces on the kids. I did notice them and have been noticing the one that the adult DamFab wears but haven't seen it well enough to describe it. I am, however, thrilled at another set of SIGNIFICANT OBJECTS / TALISMANS.

I wonder if Anita will stock them with the PLOT THICKENERS.

And speaking of STORM CELLAR™ merchandise -- Carlos
Your martini stability concerns have been duly noted. A line of see-through TempeTommeeTippee Cups has been added.

So it seems that Ariel gave Michel the boat, and gave Mercedes the packing plant. He must have been pretty rich, and generous!

@ Vivi
And yet, Marina was the only money source for she and her mom.
Maybe this is explained later, but if Ariel had so many riches, he must have left something to his wife and daughter, too, right?

Adriana- Yes. That is part of the mystery. Why not give the packing plant to Beatriz, instead of Mercedes? Plenty of mysteries to be solved here.

Do we know if Ariel was married to Mercedes or Beatriz? It kinda sounds like he was married to Beatriz. He Beatriz and Marina seem to have had a somewhat normal family.

Yes. He was married to Beatriz. Mercedes is just his baby mama. Hence the mystery of how the fishing plant ended up in Mercedes's hands and not Bea's.

OK, so do we know how the twins got split up in the first place? Seems to me that some very strange things must have gone on before we came in.

Carlos

Hmmm..It seems that there was a love triangle back in the day. Mercedes loved Michel, but she was pregnant by Ariel, and Ariel and Michel were best friends. i am confused about who took Magdelena, the other twin.

Is Dam's mother dead ?

Carlos, I like the way we are getting glimpses of and allusions to the past and having to put it all together. It makes it more engaging.

Susanlynn,
We know Dam's father is dead and we assume his mother is too, from the way he and others speak of her.

We saw the twin, Magdalena, being taken from Mercedes. We know that Contreras was involved.

We don't know exactly how it happened, but we are given to understand that the twin, Marina, was entrusted to Beatriz (and Ariel?) by Mercedes herself.

We know that Beatriz doesn't know Mercedes but Mercedes has been watching Bea and Marina for years.

We know that Mercedes loved Dam's father, Michel Fabré but he was married to someone else, Dam's mother.

And we know that Mercedes had her twins by Ariel Reverte.

We know Ariel and Beatriz were married but we don't know whether they were together when the twins were conceived.

There are hints that Beatriz knows that Marina is Ariel's daughter but we don't know what she knows about Marina's biological mother.

Is that right?

At the time Ernesto took Magdalena, Marina must have already been with Beatriz since we didn't see but one baby, I think. Mercedes seemed poor but I don't think she was a working girl. Does Ernesto have anything to do with the trafficking? I guess he is still in jail, which was a crazy situation, trial, witnesses ie Marina, none of that happened.

Confuzzled! great word

NovelaMaven:
You have it right.

Variopinta:
Ernesto is out of jail. The maid that he raped retracted her statement that she was raped so Ernesto was set free. He went to visit Mercedes in Cap 2 and told her that he had sold her daughter when she was still a little girl and never saw her again. He kidnapped and sold Magdalena to get revenge on Mercedes for having escaped from the powerful man who Ernesto sold Mercedes to. Mercedes' escape cost Ernesto a lot and he wanted to get revenge.

I hope that we find out more about who Damian's mother is. I also hope that we find out the meaning behind the tattoos that Damian has.

I like these bits and pieces of back story that we are getting. It keeps things interesting. The older adults are proving to be much more interesting than the youngsters.

I loved the revelation that Damian and Marina knew each other when they were kids and that they were friends. I also loved the hand prints in the wet cement.

I love that you said OrangePants!!! Thanks for making me laugh each day recappers! I am glad they have a connecting when they were younger even though it seems completely unreasonable that they were fast friends from one encounter. Although, with kids this does happen. Yeah they are going to have to let us in on the Ariel, Michel, and Mercedes connection at some point. I sorry but, I liked that Dam did not shake H's hand. I know it was rude but, it is like he can just tell the guy is bad news. I am loving this tn and loving the recaps even more.

P.S. One of the best titles ever!
