La Tempestad Cap #8 - Wed 7 August - Sluts and Booze!!!!*

*I couldn’t think of a title so I used my favorite line of the episode.

Welcome to The Patio of Lowered Expectations, where every Wednesday is Hump Hunk Day and we feature an all-day Happy Hour.

Last night -  We left Capitán Dam Fab and his newest crew gazing at each other while the boom box blasted “Today I want you, Hoy tengo ganas de ti!”

Tonight - Mayuya the faux-happy frenemy is “so excited” that Estercita is alive and gets to marry Dam Fab. Mayuya’s half-a$$ed smile barely disguises the seething volcano inside and she almost erupts when Delfina excitedly tells Princess Estercita she’ll be the most beautiful bride in the world.

La Tempestad has made it to port and who is there to greet her? Why Hernán Haskell of course, with an ambulance and the Doc in tow. Hernán  wants to impress Marina with his great concern for her employee. Dam Fab wants none of it but the crew (now including Marina) convince him to get in the ambulance. Hernán tries to suck up to Marina but Bagre interrupts to apologize to her for being so harsh earlier.

Mexico City - Soraya is impressed that Mercedes treats her with respect and doesn’t judge her. “Who am I to judge?” asks Mercedes. Mercedes says she has a crazy plan  to look for her daughter but she needs Soraya’s help. Soraya likes hanging out with Mercedes and will do whatever she can to help.

Back on the coast the ambulance is speeding toward the hospital. Inside, Bagre tells Dam Fab that Estercita isn’t the woman for him. He needs a brave woman with dynamite in her blood, like, um Señorita Marina. Dam Fab laughs that he’s way too rough, crude and gruff for a fine specimen like Marina. Bagre tells Dam not to sell himself short. He’s more intelligent than most, including that loser Hernán Saldaña Artigas who just happened to hustle away the señorita.

Hernán has taken Marina home and with much intensity tells her it was his great pleasure, as always, to be of assistance. Beatrice says relying on him is getting to be a habit. He smarmily says he loves being by Marina’s side. “Yours too Mrs. Cleaver,” he simpers at Bea. Bea walks him to the door as Marina daydreams about her hunky Capitán. Anyone else notice that big-eyed-child art on the wall? Shudder.

Bea begs Hernán to tell her the truth because Marina never tells her nada. Hernán says thanks to Capitán Fabre Marina was attacked by pirates and he thinks Marina should look for another job, in fact he offered her one. Bea says her daughter needs a man like Hernán. Nothing would make her happier than to see Marina marry him. He  goes all “Aw Shucks” and makes himself blush as red as his pants. (I know some patio patrons really like those red pants so that’s the only crack I’m going to make about them.)

We are back in the DF and two bewigged ladies of the night make their way through an obstacle course of trash, passed out drunks and the homeless. But wait, it’s Mercedes and Soraya! This is Merce’s plot, to disguise herself as a prostitute to find out what happened to Magdalena. She’ll do whatever it takes and Soraya would understand if she were a mother. Soraya is worried and hates being back in this hell-hole but she’ll stick with Mercedes because she admires her. Mercedes assures Soraya that they’ll be fine, but then she almost passes out when they get to “the corner” and she sees a group of prostitutes. Is Magdalena among them?

They approach the group but get intercepted by the local pimp, El Papacito. He tells them to move away from HIS corner. Soraya sidles up and says they might be interested in business, just give them a chance. One of the whores warns them to beat it, these guys are bad news and they don’t know what they’re getting into. El Papi returns and says he’ll give them a chance, but they’d better not be from the competition because nobody gets rid of him! He glares at Mercedes.

Valdivio visits Hernán to tell him that Fulgencio wanted him to spy on Hernan, but since he considers Hernan to be a bigger cheese he decided to rat out Fulge. Hernán pays Valdivio for loyalty. (Because that’s the only way he’s gonna get it!) Hernan gripes that Fulgencio got  in the way of their being able to take care of Damian Fabre thanks to that scandal with Estercita.  Valdivio gleefully asks if Hernán plans to eliminate Fulge? Not yet, says Hernan. He'll convince
Fulge to leave the business the easy way, pay him off. He’ll do it the easy way, or the hard way.

“Sluts and Booze!!!”  Padre Tomas’s sis is ripping him a new one. She’s pithed off that Lazaro has a job with that womanizer Capitán Fabre and his shameful crew. He tells her it’s time for Lazaro to stop being a mama’s boy. She yells ever since Lazaro started working for Dam he’s been hanging out at that no-good La Guacamaya. Padre reminds her she asked him to find a job for Laz, Dam gave him a chance, drinking isn’t a sin and Dam is teaching Lazaro to be a man and a good sailor. “For God’s sake leave your son in peace or you’ll lose him completely.” She shrieks that HE’S JUST A BOY!!!!! From now on Padre is responsible and if Laz turns into a little sinner Padre T will answer first to God and then to she-who-will-not-be-muted. She stomps out and I pray to the telenovela gods that we don’t have to see or hear that Scream-pop ever again. Oh my achin’ ears.

Speaking of La Guacamaya, Lazaro is there just as mommy suspected. He’s in a room with Jazmin and he promises her he will get her out of her horrible situation somehow, she’s suffered too much. She says he doesn’t know the bad guys, they are cruel and dangerous. They destroyed her documents, stole her and her little sister (!!), and threatened to kill her. She begs him not to say or do anything or she and sis will find themselves at the bottom of the sea. (Ruh Roh) He gives her a white rose and promises he’ll figure something out. They kiss sweetly.

Out in the bar El Oso is showing off his great hunkitude and toasting to Capitán Fabre. Bagre and Candy catch up on the chisme and Candy tells him Little E tried to kill herself when daddy wouldn’t let her marry Damian, but now he’s given permission and Dam and Estercita have to get married.

Our evil scamp Hernán visits Fulgencio to tell him the Big Boss says Fulge had better let Dam Fab marry Estercita. What’s more, he wants Fulgencio to apologize to Dam. Amidst Fulge’s blustering Hernán says this is serious business. He even had to play the good samaritan by meeting La Tempestad with an ambulance. They had better show some support for Dam Fab because the people of the town love him and he could turn the people against Fulgencio. Fulge’s all “Que?" (Dude, even your wife wants to stab you with a fork. That’s our theory anyway.)

Hernán gets to explain to Fulgencio, again, that thanks to his drunk of a daughter who advertised Fulge’s false accusations to the whole town, Fulge’s credibility stinks! Dam is practically a legend. He could probably even get Fulge fired as Cacique of the village. Fulge had better reconcile with Capitan Fabre pronto. It’s not Hernan that’s giving the order, it’s the Big Bossman. “Damn you Damian Fabre, Damn you.” growls Fulge.

At the only hospital in the pueblo, the doc tells Dam Fab that his wound looks great, no infection, thanks to the great stitch job. (I just  hope that awesome compass tat didn’t get moved off course.) One night in the hospital and he can go back home tomorrow. Bagre tells Dam to think about what he said in the ambulance. Dam Fab complies by thinking sexy thoughts about Marina.

Aaaaand, guess who is in bed thinking her own sexy thoughts? Yep, more Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti. “What’s happening?” she moans, “How can I be feeling this for Damian Fabre?”

Dam Fab sadly looks at his shoulder and says  “This scar will be the only memory I’ll have of her. The only one.” One of the most cornball lines I’ve ever heard, but why did it make me feel all squiggly inside? Sigh.

Back in the grimy DF Mercedes and Soraya discreetly stare at every prostitute's face hoping to find Magdalena. An interested cabbie drives up for Soraya, she says if he takes her he’s got to take her friend too. The cabbie says "Me late, chocolate", which I think means something like "Cool fool!" They depart under El Papacito’s watchful eye.

As they are driving Soraya pulls out a gun, shocking both the driver and Mercedes. Sora tells the driver she doesn’t want money, she need his help to get out of a mess, and the lady in the back seat has lots of money. Mercedes jumps in and adds she wants his help not because there’s a gun stuck up his nose, but so he can have the satisfaction of helping a mother. Mercedes rolls her eyes, clearly she agrees with the patio that Soraya didn’t exactly think this through.

Bea’s doing her nightly roam again, finds Marina awake, and asks why didn’t she accept Hernán’s offer of employment? Mari says because Hernán’s companies are far from the sea and mama needs her fresh, sea air. Bea suggests Marina should marry Hernán, they have so much in common. Nopis, says Marina, La Señora Mercedes has put all her faith in Marina and she’s not going to let her down.

A little while later Bea is still roaming and peeking in on Marina. If I were Marina I would be slightly creeped out, but Marina seems OK and reassures her mom not to be worried. But mom IS worried by all the danger that the famous Capitán Fabre has heaped upon Marina’s head. On the contrary, says Marina, he’s not such a bad guy after all. He almost sacrificed himself to protect her. He’s an honorable man and she was wrong about him. Bea says it sounds like Marina’s starting to feel something more for El Cap, and darn it, why is Mari so indifferent to Hernán Haskell? Mari says how could mom think such a thing? She’s not in love with El Cap or anyone. Nobody! Bea is very curious to meet this Capitán Fabre.

Imagine Dam Fab’s surprise when Hernán walks in for a little hospital visit. Hernán says he hopes Dam is satisfied and he wants an explanation for why Dam exposed Marina to such danger.  Dam glares. Hernan glares. Dam glares. Hernan glares.

To Be Continued...

Sorry folks, but I had to pick up my sister at the airport tonight, then she forced me to come in for a glass of wine so she could regale me with tales of her vacation and I didn’t get home until quite late. I can’t keep my eyes open another moment so I’ll have to finish the recap tomorrow. Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.

Part Deux...

Dam says his boat is his business and he doesn’t owe Hernan any explanations. Marina did what she wanted. Besides, why is Hernán so interested?   Hernán says he cares about Marina and she relies on him. Furthermore, she is Dam’s superior. Dam looks like he’s about to crack up.

Back in the DF Mercedes must have told the cabbie her sad tale, and been VERY convincing because now he’s crying into his hankie. He also has a daughter. (Oh, well that explains his about-face. Not.) Mercedes begs him to help find her daughter. He says he doesn’t want her money, he just wants to help a mother find her daughter. Mercedes starts to tell him her plan but we don’t get to hear what it is. She gives him a wad of cash so El Papacito won’t suspect.

Padre Tomas sees Lazaro walking under his balcony and wants to know what’s going on with Lazaro, His mum is worried about him. Laz says he has a girlfriend with lots of problems. Laz says he can’t tell what they are but he admits he’s a little in love. Padre T thinks that’s just wonderful, and he can’t wait to meet the nice working girl and her wonderful Christian family. (Oopsie.) Laz tries to change the subject but Padre T blathers on about Laz’s amiga being a decent girl from a good amily, yada yada, he wants to meet them tomorrow. Laz squirms.

Said Amiga is back at Nereo’s pad getting slapped around for not earning enough money and wasting time talking to that insipid kid. Nereo yells that she’s turning out to be a rotten investment and she’d better get  cracking.

Nice cabbie returns to The Corner and tells El Papi he’s going take the ladies somewhere for an all-nighter, paid in advance. El Papi’s happy that these new girls are already making him lots of money.

Nice cabbie drops the ladies off at Mercedes’ pad and says he’s at their service. Nice to know there are decent people in the city and to prove it he’s at their service. He gives them his card.

Bagre visits Dam to tell him that he was at La Guacamaya and Candy told him something, Errr...in walks Dam’s Madrina to finish the sentence. “She said that Estercita tried to kill herself because of her love for you.” Gasp!

Madrina says thank God Estercita survived but she did it because daddy Fulge wouldn’t allow her to marry Dam Fab. Bagre thinks that’s just fine, but Dam is too honorable. Madrina Eusebia starts getting all spiritual and says even without her special skype pan of water she can see that the destiny Dam is choosing is full of problems, difficulties and tragedies, many tragedies. Bagre and Dam make funny woo-woo eyes.

It is a new day and Dam is out of the hospital. Wow, he heals fast! He jauntily visits Marina with a bouquet of red roses for all she did for him. First she saves him from prison then she  sews him up. She had no idea he could be so sweet. He says she’s looking at the real Dam Fab, a hot-blooded man who can explode at the smallest spark (le pant, le heave!) to defend what is right, but also a man who can be grateful to those who help him out. More gazing and Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti.

Two phrases that were used a lot:

¿Cómo se te ocurre? - You are so right but I refuse to admit it. (Lit. - How could you think such a thing?)
Por las buenas, o las malas -  One way or the other (Lit. By fair means or by foul)

Comments:
This cements my opinion that while LT is great fun, the recaps have far surpassed the series. Not that I'm complaining. I readily (and somewhat shamefully) admit, Levy entrances me every time the camera pans in on that devastating face and smile. Adonis lives.

Sylvia, warm, witty and wonderful. You perfectly blended all of the events with insight and snark. This was simply great.

"Hump Hunk Day", "He smarmily says he loves being by Marina’s side", “Yours too Mrs. Cleaver, he simpers at Bea" and "she-who-will-not-be-muted" were among my favorites.

LT desperately needs to hire a wigmaster. Soraya's blonde wig was just downright distracting and Mercedes just had too many lacquered, messy strands. The hideous, ill fitting wig of Estercita has already been gone over in detail here.

Soraya is a loose cannon who might easily have gotten she and Mercedes killed. Mercedes might be wise to apply her business acumen and devise more of a solid plan next time.

Perhaps it's "Ful-of-himself's" physical presence that makes him (to me) more of a viable vilain that Hernán. A man with an achilles heel (obsession over a woman he will never have) has too many chinks in the armor...

Sylvia, hope you had a wonderful visit with your sister...

Diana

Sylvia, I love your style! You kept me laughing out loud all through the recap – I can’t wait for your second part.

So I have my comfy chair on the Patio and I’m sipping my tequila shots.. ready for my comments.

You can laugh at Hernan’s red pants with no worries, I was not a fan if Ivan Sanchez, but I do think he has a ‘je ne sais quoi”. Too bad he’s wasting his time on Marina, who is so NOT interested.
But he is dead on about Furygencio not getting any sympathy with the way he’s treating Dam Fam, the pueblo’s sweetheart.

I find Bea slightly creepy, too, thank you for pointing it out. She’s such a whiner! Hey, mamita, wanna guess why Marina doesn’t tell you stuff? Maybe because you want to marry her off to the first guy who treated you nice since you got to the pueblo. I know! Why don’t you marry him instead and just shut up!

What is it with Bagre that he keeps playing Celestina (Cupid) with Dam and Marina? Doesn’t he have whores to charm, booze to get wasted on and other manly duties that marineros usually do? Thankfully, I have my tequila next to me.

How funny was it that the pimp didn’t even bat an eye when visibly older lady Mercedes said she wanted to become part of his crew? And, even if your recap didn’t get that far, yet, I have to mention the cabby going from hooker seeking slime to compassionate good fella’ who is more than willing to help Merce in her quest. Drink Up!

Whenever we get a scene between a priest and someone else and the priest comes off as the modern, laid back person that is not a good sign… could Lazaro’s mom be more annoying?
Lazaro and Jazmin still bore me, though.

Excellent recap cause this one seems very hard with all the over the top abusers.

I, too, thought our pimp might have had too many run ins with the Mexican equivalent of Osha and decided to give geriatrics a shot.

Is el capitan so pretty that Marina's eyes seem to roll all over the place and re-focus in close ups?

Is the actriz that plays Marina's real mother in every William Levy novella?

So, why didn't we have an explosion under the ship...the count down was near to a minute. If it hand gone off during Marina's sewing who knows what would have happened.

This is a fun novella cause there are a lot of train wrecks coming down the track.

Sylvia- The title was perfect for this episode, and really for the whole tn. :) We need to see some more people really boozing it up though, like Estercita.

Papacito really gave Mercedes the side eye, but I guess he figured some johns like them on the older side. And with what the cabbie paid for the services of the two long-in-the-tooth hos, he must now figure that these two have learned some major skills in all the years they've been in the biz.

Bea is falling for Hernan, hook line and sinker, but I have to say, he does a very convincing "aw shucks, mam" look.

Cap'n:

What a fab recap and you never disappoint, eva!

Diana:

So agree with what you said about Soraya and Merced's wigs but what about Merced's heavily made up glitter eyes? It looked like she had something in her eye there for a minute. She was blinking like a yellow traffic light, lol.

I like Soraya though and can see why she was carrying the gun. Bad area and bad guys and all that ; )

Bagre is the opposite of Bea. He is trying to push Dam Fab into marrying Marina and Mama is pushing Marina to marry Herny. In this way they are the same in a way, they are acting like Marina is a ripe plum to be picked.

I really like how Herny is pushing Fully around about Dam Fab, lol. I can't wait until Fully apologizes to Dam Fab, that should be priceless as Fully tries to stop himself from hurling, lol.

So the Padre is Lozaro's uncle, right. So that screeching woman is his sister? I feel for the Padre.

Also Dam Fab's arm really healed quickly didn't it? I had to laugh at the wrap job in the hospital and when he got out the next day, no bandage and he was just swinging that arm full of roses for Marina! I know tighten the beanie!

Meija always uses a young couple story line. He did it on Corazon Salvaje and then in QBA. I liked the CS one better.

I had a deja vu moment last night. Dam Fab and his crew remind me of Juan del Diablo and his crew. The characters are much the same and the Dam Fab treats his crew the same as Juan did on his barco.

Golawah- Daniela Romo has been in three of the four tns where WL has been the lead galan: Sortilegio (as his step-mom), Triunfo del Amor (as the enemy of his step-mom and evil granny of his true-love), and now La Tempestad (as the mother of his true-love).

Madelaine, you know, I've been thinking about Juan del Diablo a lot, while watching Dam Fab and his crew.
If you meant Eduardo Yanez, then anyone can make a better captain than him... but if you meant the one and only Eduardo Palomo, then yeah, WL is doing a nice job channeling him, but he's nothing like the original.
Also, I think Bagre is more low key than Bea with his Cupid duties, more on the "she's hot, Cap'n, you better hit that fast!" side, while Bea is already dreaming of little Hernans and Hernanas running around the house.

Vivi, "long in the tooth hos" :))))
"hos" always makes me laugh, I don't know why, and we have our share of those in this tn.
And just wait till Magdalena shows up, will get to see XN as uptight city girl AND prostitute (I don't think she changed profession, where would be the fun in that?)

Adriana Noel:

I meant the EY one. I have never seen the other one ; )

Adriana- Maybe XN's dead-eyed look, and flat line delivery will work better in prostitute mode, than in uptight city girl mode.

Ahoy, Cap'n , and thanks. "Sluts and Booze" ...how succinct.

Question regarding the song "Today , I want to love you." ...is the next line " Tomorrow maybe not so much." ?????

WL is such a natural flirt, that he has chemistry with any leading lady he works with (he's like the male Silvia Navarro that way). He would even have chemistry with a wall (even more than David Zapeda had with that wall he romanced in La Fuerza del Destino). I notice that XN has a hard time holding her gaze with him when they are supposed to be talking while gazing into each other's eyes, like in that last scene. She has to look away or shift her gaze around a lot. I don't blame her. Most women would not be able to stare a flirty handsome man in the eyes like that, without blushing and looking away. I think they are playing it like the character is unable to hold the gaze, but I think it's the actress.

Sylvia, so far so good.
I'm not near a computer and wanted to comment before its too late.
I am still laughing at - frenemy, Capt. Dam Fab and Lazaro's mother with the scream popovers. My ear still hurt!!!!
Diana - I agree about finding a bettter wig master. Their wigs can be undetectable under a better stylist.
Vivi- I was wondering about XN's gaze and thank you for clearing up that it may be the actress. I thouugt that it was a part of the role.
Adriana- Bea is a little creepy. Marina is not a baby and the nightly interruptions are excessive.

Well as faux hooker, Mercedes may need a little work on her eye glitter and her hair BUT for a woman of her age, her legs were fabulous!

Sylvia - Muchas gracias. Thanks for all the detail.

Loved Daniela Romo in the "two long-in-the-tooth hos" [thanks, Vivi] scene. That was so unexpected and must've been fun to play.

Tks Cap Sylvia
I shouldn't get started on Mejiaisms, but I can't help myself.Every TN is the same, Different actors, different location, different job theme, same ole, same ole cliches. Buuut WL keeps me hanging in.

Bagre is the typical sailor???? with his advice to the lovelorn, ?Que, what???

WL is a mujeriego, who could resist that cute grin & he knows it. It would not surprise me one bit if he & XN got it on.

Jazmin is in trouble if she doesn't turn in some $ to her pimp. I haven't
seen her make any yet.

Those red pants! make me think of a red butt baboon.

I'm worried about Cesar Evora blowing
a gasket with all those rants he's having. Another Mejiaism, always blaming some innocent person for whatever happens.

Naval news alert...I just read in today's paper that The Pacific Princess" (The Love Boat") made its final yoyage and will be stripped for metal and parts. The end of an era. ..say goodbye to love exciting and new..at least on board The Love Boat.

Susanlynn

The song goes like this:

"Today I need to love you" (which I don't really agree with, because it's more like "Today I desire you")

and then he repeats the same verse and goes into the next part:

I want to use your lips to satisfy the thirst in my soul
And to discover love with you every morning
Today I desire you
Today I desire you

It doesn't sound so hot in English...

- love the song, btw -

Adriana - you are so right
English does not do the song any justice. The words are soul wrenching in Spanish.

note to Bea : I have two grown daughters. Trust me...the more you push Heman, the less M will be interested in him., I know this from personal experience...just shut it. also, I wanted nothing to do with the candidate my mother was backing for my consideration.

Wow Sylvia..you started this off with a whale of a title! My editor would have loved you.

Enjoyed Hernan Haskell, "she-who-will-not-be-muted" and my favorite: your confession that you got all squiggly inside. Haven't watched this yet, but I imagine I'll get all squiggly too. Can't wait!

Glad you made the wise choice and did a little post-trip vino bonding with your sis. You've got your priorities straight, amiga mia. Dream on...of William, of course!

I just posted the rest of the recap. Thanks for your patience!

Sylvia- your recaps are pure sinful pleasure to read. The crack about the blushing as red as the pants, and then Variopinta's baboon butt comment- bahahahahahahaha! I do agree with Vivi that Hernan is quite charming, even with his awful prep-school fashion sense. And when he put Fulgencio in his place, I clapped. He's a villain I like to root for just a little.

Regarding Beatriz, I agree that she's annoying, but not nearly so much as Amalia from QBA. With her illness, she probably won't last long, and Mercedes is Marina's real mother, so I wouldn't let Bea get to us too much.

I thought it couldn't get worse than Estercita's emo Pippy Longstocking wig, but she was outdone last night. Mercedes looked like a drag queen!!!!!

Levy's over flirtatious acting annoys me sometimes. As much as I love "Hoy tengo ganas de tí", it's lost some of its magic by being played in every other scene.

I think Ximena is doing a fine job so far. I prefer her calmer acting style to Victoria Ruffo's/Danna Garcia's/Angelique Boyer's constant crying any day of the week.

Cap'n--Another gem for the cyberbooks. Gracias for all the wit and wisdom.

Like Diana, I loved Hump-Hunk Day and the Mrs. Cleaver reference.

Your aside, "I just hope that awesome compass tat didn’t get moved off course," could only be imagined by a real captain.

As for a viable villain, Hernan is the worst kind, because he comes off as being the normal, solid citizen, charmer. He's the kind we are shocked to learn later is a serial killer.

Fully is right out in the open. We expect him to be bad with that open, nostril-flaring temper. However, except for some lapses in public, he keeps all this anger in check and defuses himself on his family. I expect great things from Delfina's fork in the future.

Holy Moley, I thought it was a plumped up Cher coming around the corner of the 'ho station. How on earth did she decide what the proper dress was for ladies of the evening? The professional 'hos were better "dressed" than she was--but it was fun to watch the two persuade El Papacito they still had it.

Did anyone else besides me think that after having sewn up Dam Fab's wound and covering it with gauze and walking to the ambulance, Dam is wrapped up like a mummy in the hospital? Later we see him walking down the street dressed appropriately in a tight fitting, thin t-shirt. More fun.

I'm going to love hanging on the patio with this bunch. Hope the sun shines every day and the temperature is appropriately "hot."

Cap'n Sylvia - I agree with everyone here about your recapping style. Thank you for the laughs. ie "One of the most cornball lines I’ve ever heard, but why did it make me feel all squiggly inside? Sigh." / " Hunk Day."

I too wouldn't be surprised if most leading ladies who've been fortunate to be paired with WL falls for him for real. how could one not? he's got a playful personality to boot.

- Cesar Evora's rage is disconcerting. I >>ff>> any screeching/screaming/whining scene. I love how Dam Fab speaks... soft and sexy

- Soraya looked like a Christmas ornament - silver hair/green shiny dress

- I like that Hernan is creepily protective of Marina. He is convincingly charming and attractive, until his eyes get even darker, then looks completely loco. what a transformation.

I left out..did anyone else besides me think it was funny...

Good morning and thanks for all the comments. You guys are great. These 9:00 p.m. shows are tough.

Adriana, That's just what I was thinking, that Mamita should go after Hernan if she's so hot for him.

I also thought it was funny that El Papacito didn't bat an eye at our extremely sparkly older gals. To be fair, Soraya did say she had a way with "Los Juniors", which I thought was hilarious.

Vivi, "I notice that XN has a hard time holding her gaze with him when they are supposed to be talking while gazing into each other's eyes." Yes! I have noticed that too.

Adriana, as Pablo from PEAM says, "sounds better in Spanish". Thanks for your help with the translation.

I admire Mercedes for her gumption, but I get the feeling her plan is not very well thought out. She and Soraya need to do some brainstorming, write out an outline, something, because just saying "you won't get hurt" doesn't quite cut it when dealing with pimps and human traffickers.

Anita, ITA that Hernan is the creepiest sort of bad guy. He is very insidious. Sometimes I wonder if there really is a Big Boss or if Hernan himself is the puppetmaster. Probably not because he's also got businesses to run.

OMG I was (am) so sick of hearing Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti! I swear it was in my head when I woke up. I sure wish they would play another song or two.

Anita:

I thought it was funny. See my comment above, lol.

Thank you for the recap, Cap'n Sylvia. Great snark and fun to read.

OT:

Since I love music and like to put it in my recaps I was researching music by Alejandro Fernandez and found a song on Youtube he did with, are you ready? Beyoncé! What a terrific tune. It was sung for the opening of Zorro: La Espada y la Rosa. I don't know if it was recapped here. It was on Telemundo a couple years ago I think. The song is Amor Gitano and here is the link:

http://youtu.be/4hYTERy-etc

Now I have it stuck in my head, sort of like the ear worms I give Y'all ; )

Mads, I love that Zorro song. In fact I bought Beyoncé's CD and it included that and several other songs in Spanish. (Actually the CD included a separate Spanish CD.) I think she tried to break into the latino music market but it didn't quite work out for her. Love the song though, and I adore Alejandro Fernandez. Thanks for sharing. It helps get rid of that other song that I refuse to say. I thought the Zorro telenovela was absolutely terrific.

Cap'n:

Thanks about the info on Zorro. Now I am going to try and find the DVD. It actually looked fab in that video and the hunks in that one, WOW.

there's this song they play at the end of LT by Daniela Romo. so pretty.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRKGmne3hoA

Thank you shallowgal. What a beautiful song. I wish they would play it more in the show.

Mads, let me know if you find a DVD of Zorro. I think it was one of the best telenovelas I've seen. The acting was terrific, great chemistry, beautiful photography, it had it all. It was on Telemundo, not Univision. I think Telemundo re-aired it a couple of years ago and I sure wish they would do it again. And if you like the whole Zorro story I highly recommend the book by Isabel Allende.

Wow...I was just thinking I wish I knew the song they played at the end, and voilà! shallowgal came up with it.

I also really really like the up-tempo song they play as an ad for Univisón shows Despierta American the weather etc....A group sings it and it seems to go, "I love it I love it, me gusta"...etc. and there's a band running along the top and bottom of screen saying "canción del verano" but I can't seem to find it. Any idea, anyone?

Thank you Cap'n Sylvia for this fabulous recap!

I don't understand why Beatriz likes Hernan so much. She hardly knows him and there she is wanting her daughter to marry him just because he's been nice to them. But she has only known him for such a short time. I don't think she knew him when he and Marina were in high school.

It is interesting how Beatriz wants Marina to be with Hernan while Mercedes secretly hoped that Marina would fall in love with Damian. Both mothers have chosen who they want as a son in law.

shallowgirl:
Thank you for the link to the Daniela Romo song. It is a beautiful song!

Judy B:

The song you are hearing is " I Love It" by Jencarlos Canela and he's American, lol. He has been in a couple of novellas too I believe. He has loads of talent.

Shallowgirl, thanks for the link! I really like Daniela Romo's voice- she has a velvety rich contralto. Why on earth don't they play it every once in a while instead of Hoy tengo ganas de ti?

I agree with everyone about Hernan being insidious. As much as I love Cesar Evora, Hernan seems to be a much smarter, vicious villain. Foolgencio has too much of a temper to last the entire TN.

Mads--
In my hurry to comment, I skimmed over them. Yes, indeedy, we both saw the ridiculousness of the mummy wrap. Maybe they wrapped him up and stuck a drip in his other hand to make him look vulnerable in the avances when Hernando walks in looking menacing. There can't be any other explanation.

Of course, in the epi, it turns out they had a sort of nice "back off" bro talk.

Little skinny Hernan could never look menacing. Sinister, sneaky, perturbed, creepy stalker - yes.

ShallowGal:

Thanks so much for the link to that song. It is beautiful : )

Cap'n Sylvia,

Can you hear me applauding and cheering? What a hoot!

"Yours too, Mrs. Cleaver," he simpers at Bea.

She-who-will-not-be-muted

(Dude, even your wife wants to stab you with a fork)

And my personal fave:

(le pant, le heave!)

And there is Hernán still running around in his tight red pants looking like some kind of malevolent elf. What's next? Those dreadful midcalf pedal-pushers?

I see you found the Patio. Welcome to the party!

for an amazing video of our Captain accompanied by Adele's "Chasing Pavements".

Shallowgal posted this yesterday and it has made my day!

Thank you Shallowgal!

Cap'n ...I remember that while you were watching Zorro a few years ago, I was sulking because we did not get Telemundo. However, we had Telemundo when they reran it , and I watched. I think it was recapped here at Caraycaray. I remember that I preferred Zorro's dad to Zorro, but I cannot remember the actor's nme..Oscar Somebody ? The guy who played Zorro was later the galan in Dona Barabara with Edith Gonzales.

Novela Maven, that Mrs. Cleaver crack was for you my dear. See what you started?

See, now that's the great thing about all-day happy hours, everyone wants to stop by for the half-off drinks and drool bibs.

JudyB, I'm glad my rather unoriginal title (to me) appealed to the journalist in you. Sometimes the lines in these shows are absolutely priceless gems. I wish I understood all of them.

Susanlynn, had I known about the Love Boat I surely would have incorporated it into the recap or at least the title. Gosh, I used to love that show. I still know the song by heart. Goodbye Tengo Ganas De Ti and hello Loveboat.

Sylvia this was wonderful! I enjoyed your observations and snark.

Yes Diana LT does desperately need a wig maker stat!

Having a great time at the patio w/old friends and new!

And another thing ...

Por las buenas, o las malas - One way or the other (Lit. By fair means or by foul)

In my head, I always thought of this phrase as "the easy way or the hard way." But I love "by fair means or by foul" which is both literal and literary.

From now on, I am going to imagine that is what the baddies are saying when they exhort someone to do what they say "por las buenas o las malas."

Judy B, Madelaine
Jancarlos Canela is an American actor with Cuban origins. He was the hero in Mas sabe el diablo (with Gaby Espino, his later wife), Mi corazon insiste (with Carmen Villalobos) and Pasion Prohibida (with Monica Spear) - all on Telemundo.
Now he's taking a break from tns, focusing on his music.

I've known him for a while, but only after watching Pasion Prohibida, I completely fell in love with him. Just ask Shallowgal how drool worthy he is.
So much that he's my telenovio number 2, after CdlF.

"Love exciting and new, come aboard..it's awaiting youuu...LOVE BOAT ...I can't remember the other verses....Ooooh...OOOh ..
Ahhh...the patio. So, are there picnic tables with red and white checked tablecloths or is this a tonier place. ? Anyhoo, I am not a beer drinker, but I do like an occasional Whiskey Sour , Piña Colada, or Mojito.

Mads and Adriana...thanks so much for info about the song. It is sooo catchy. Hope that it and the Daniela Romo song are on iTunes because I MUST have them!!! "por las buenas o las malas!"

Hooray! Both were. I must say Daniela Romo has not only a beautiful voice but the most incredibly clear diction. Wow. A total pleasure.

OT

CG contender????

Perfecto Shallowgal....Hernan Haskell!!

I hope the little tart tells Dam Fab's madrina that she is wearing a lovely vestido and she backhands him. I'm afraid it's going to take a psychic to see thru the little ponce. Channelling Barbara Billingsly. Gertie

wouldn't it be great if Sergio Reynoso were Hernán's boss? Then the skinny H-boy would be caught between two éminences gros!

bwahahaha

Ah NovelaMaven...only you could make a joke using éminence grise. Merci ma chère.

And only you, my dear JudyB, would get the joke.

P.S. I am relieved you got your songs. I was a little worried about what might happen had you been forced to go after them "por las malas."

Riiiight...I am so verrry dangerous. Luckily for iTunes, they were most coorperative.

However, Corazón Indomable has a very catchy opening song which Sara and I both search for weekly, and nada, nada, nada.

SMOKIN' !!

shallowgirl:

Thanks for the video. WL and XN do have great chemistry.

WL and XN are on the cover of the new edition of People En Español. It is on sale already. I'll be purchasing a copy of it when I go to the store.

Thanks for this great recap, Sylvia. It is such a treat having my Sylvia recaps to enjoy once more. Sorry for the late arrival. I read part one this morning, but the Lovely Linda and I were out and about all afternoon.

I'm lovin' this show. I can't imagine why they're not eating this with a spoon in Mexico.

Carlos

Yowza! Talk about a couple of gorgeous people. It didn't look like they were hating that photo shoot too much.

"Dude, even your wife wants to stab you with a fork. That’s our theory anyway."
"Mayuya’s half-a$$ed smile barely disguises the seething volcano inside"

I was laughing so hard when I read these. Thank you so much. This was excellent.

I feel like I have seen Soraya in another tn but, I cannot remember which one.

I agree Bea needs to get H for herself. She is too quick to dump her daughter in her lap. Not a fan of any Mom/parent suggesting you can't bee happy and settled unless you are married. Did she push her this much when she had the fancy job at the hotel. Bea and H are high on the creepy factor.

One thing Dam hasn't even as Estrecita to marry him yet, all she heard is from her Mom that he wanted to to. Where is the proposal? What??? Did I miss something.

I have a feeling Mayu is going to find a way to get back at E for years of degradation. Just saying!

Yeah, not really feeling Laz and Jaz at this point. Poor Laz if that his mother then he will never be able to man up because she will never ever let him! :)

Yeah, XN and her inability to focus is distracting as all get out. If I was in a scene with WL they would have to stop me from staring(I know that wouldn't be very professional as an actress):)

It made sense that Sor had a gun to me she is a ''lady of night'' she has to deal with all kinds of crazy and creepy.

I thought the see air was supposed to be helping Bea, I guess sea air is not the best medicine or is the constant worrying that she cannot convince her only daughter to marry her stalker.

Who is Dam's BFF is is Bagre or Cande, it seems her relies more on her for the soul-liberating confessions.

I could go on and on....The recaps made the show 10x more enjoyable. Although I am feeling LT.

Thanks ya'll for the music FYI's I wanted to know if that was DR and now I know. I love the music and that is usually the best part of tn's for me. I am a lil tired of HTGT but, it is loaded up on my ipod too so that could be one reason too. I like the song for M and H but, it seems mispalced because he is creepy.

Sorry, did not edit. I meant Has Dam even asked E to marry him yet?
