Bro, you're getting married! CI 07/07/2013
We start with MariaA looking over the IOU's, soon she will get Miguel so deep in debt that he will have to sell the ranch to her and she will be the one and only owner of the hacienda, she will get her revenge, bwaaahahaha. Okay, Televisa writers, no one here suffers from short term memory loss, you don't have to remind us that MariaA wants revenge against the Narvaez, we've been watching for months, we remember the plot, please stop, okay?
Carola comes in to visit MariaA and tells her she has news, she will be selling her part of the casino. "You're going to sell your shares to the government for pennies?", "No, I'm going to sell my portion of the casino to Karim for millions of dollars!" says Carola. "You can't do that, the government won't allow the sale!" "The government will allow it, as long as the casino continues its normal operations" "You can't do this Carola, you will force me into a partnership with Karim!" "Well, if you don't want to be his partner sell him your portion of the casino, you will be even more wealthy!" "No sir!, I will not sell him my casino, I need it!" "But you have other casinos!" "Yes, but right now this is the one I need to accomplish my goals, and I will not sell it!"
Carola then asks if MariaA's goals are to find a good husband, because if that's the case she's going to have a hard time finding a decent mate, casino women always have a hard time finding someone to marry them. "I'll have you know that if I wanted I could marry the Governor tomorrow" "Don't be silly girl, the Governor only wants one thing from you...." "I might have to marry him in order to have protection from those that want to hurt me" (Oh that's a wonderful reason to marry!) "What can I say to get you to sell your shares?" "Nothing, I don't want to sell my casino, I need it to accomplish something" "What do you need to accomplish?" "That's personal Carola" and with that our blond friend gets up and leaves.
Somewhere else on the island we see Teo being uber creepy. Super duper creepy. Also our idiot pilots have arrived, and as per usual they are talking about women, mainly about Eduardo not being able to provide financially for Aracely forcing her to return to the island in order to get a job.
Doris goes to visit her daddy, she wants to formalize her relationship with Octavio and officially announce that they are swapping spit, okay, no that's not it, she wants a public announcement of their relationship to be made and for Octavio to ask for her hand in marriage. Dude, I'm pretty sure that's not how it works, normally people date, then they get feelings for each other, then they meet each others crazy families, then the boy is all like "I got a put a ring on it" and then he buys a ring and asks the girl to marry him and if he is lucky she says "yes", you can't just go around saying "daddy, you have to tell him to marry me!"
The conversation between Doris and her father turns to MariaA and it goes like this: "Daddy she is evil! That woman hates me and I hate her, she is sinister, you have to help me defeat her!" "Doris, you can't have both me and Octavio" (ewww that sounds wrong), "Daddy I'd give up Octavio if it meant that you would stay away from that woman!" "MariaA is a good, tender woman with no one to protect her!" says the Gov. "Don't defend her dad, that woman needs no protection, she is vicious and will walk over people to get what she wants!". Well, she does have a point there.
The pilots have made it to their hotel room, Ed takes a call from the front desk, the Governor has been calling all day to speak with Octavio, Ed tells the front desk that he will let Octavio know, when Octavio returns he tells him that the Gov has been looking for him, then they get yet another call from the Governor, this time Octavio takes the phone and looks surprised that the Governor is calling him. This is just stupid, you're dating his daughter why are you so surprised that he is calling you? Anyhoo, the Governor wants to see Ocatvio and he agrees to meet with him.
Elsewhere, MariaA is looking at the IOU's and is again thinking about her revenge. Twice in one episode? Really writers? Really? Oh and Teo is being creepy with Aracely who asks him not to be mean to Ed.
Doris visits a friend and tells her she will be getting married, her friend asks if Octavio loves her and Doris says "of course he does, he is crazy about me!" Minor correction Doris, he's crazy for dating you and that's not the same as someone being crazy about you. The friend with the god awful pig tails then asks if he will continue with his job as a pilot and Doris says "of course not, daddy will get him a job and he will get into politics then all the women will vote for him because he is pretty and he will be the next Governor of Isla Dorada". Jesus girl, how much alcohol is in your drink? Cause you is talking crazy!
Ocativo goes to meet with the Governor and is told that Doris wants to get married and that he is giving his blessing to this union, Octavio tries to talk his way out of this by saying he is not good enough for Doris, but no matter, the Governor wants her out of his hair so he can move on with his life and maybe get married himself. Okay, if you need to marry your daughter off in order to have a private life that's a huge sign that something is wrong with the family dynamics, you all should go seek professional help. Ocation asks if the governor wants to marry MariaA and the governor says "Yep".
End of part 1
In the casino Raiza goes to meet with her new BFF aka MariaA, MariaA has a proposition for her, she knows Raiza wants money and she will give her all the cash her little grubby hands can handle under one condition: She has to work for MariaA, and help her with her plan. MariaA wont ask too much of her, only that she be loyal to her and in return MariA will show her the money.
The first thing on the agenda is to get Raiza to help with the Miguel situation. MariaA wants one thing and one thing only, the moral and financial ruin of Miguel Narvaez! Dun,dun, dun! Raiza asks why, was he an ex-lover of yours? Maria says that no, Miguel is just the poor chump that will get her closer to the woman that ruined her life, a woman that committed many evil acts against her, and once she gets the ranch that woman will have to beg on knees and in the gutter (mud?) for Maria to keep her husband out of jail. "So the woman you want to harm is Miguel's wife?" "Yep, his wife is evil and the worst part is that even after all the things she did he still loves her" answers MariaA.
Raiza then shares this bit of news: She suspects that Miguel has killed someone and is running from the law! No way says Maria, the man has no back bone, he is a mandilon, ha I love that word! There's no way he would ever kill someone, not unless something horrible happened and he was forced to kill. She instructs Raiza to dig all the dirt she can on Miguel, Raiza says she will and that MariaA will have no complaints with the quality of her work.
Later we have a scene with Raiza and Carola where Raiza inform her sister that she will be working for MariaA and that she wont be leaving the casino once Carola sells her portion to Karim. Carola then says "this means war!" and Raiza asks her to not take it to that extreme and to calm the heck down.
I'm not sure about the time frame here but I think it's the next day and MariaA is having breakfast while reading the newspaper (hey at least someone is still doing that!), she reads an announcement for the party that the Governor will be holding to announce the relationship between his daughter and Octavio. "I have to find a way to stop this wedding!" MariaA tells herself. Okay, I have an idea here, I'm going to say that she should use the same method Eusebio used and send an anonymous letter to the Governor, all it has to read is "Octavio Narvaez can't marry your daughter because he is currently married to someone else, okaikissesbai" Boom! Problem solved!
MariaA instead calls the Governor and makes a dinner date aboard the casino, then she calls Octavio and also makes a date with him, for that same night also at the casino.
Later we see little dumb Octavio at a computer, I'm surprised his one brain cell works well enough for him to figure out how to turn on a computer! It looks like he got an e-mail that's pretty worrisome because he looks concerned and says in a dramatic voice "I've got to print this!". He then makes his way to his brothers hotel room and finds that Miguel is still in bed. "You're still asleep at this hour of the day?" he questions "Yep, working at night really takes it out of you". Octavio then tells him to get up because he has to read an e-mail he received, its from Lucia!
Miguel gets up and reads the e-mail, Octavio tells him that it looks like he needs to return to the ranch. "Nope, nuuh, not going to happen, I'm not going to jail, if Ester wants to hook up with the help, let her. Afterall you also started a relationship with "la salvage'" "Lets not talk about that" says Octavio. Oh I love it when he tries to ignore the fact that he left his uneducated teenage wife behind at the mercy of a woman that he knew could not stand her, of course he wants to avoid that subject.
Miguel tells Octavio that he is not sure he loves Lucia anymore, he always had her on a pedestal but the things she did are more than he can deal with.
At the new antique store Ed comes in to visit Araceli and gets bullied into buying a $100.00 clock that's really not all that pretty, like his friend Octavio he lacks the b@lls to say "No, thank you, I don't want to buy it", maybe the clock is a metaphor for the relationships in this telenovela. The inability of the characters to say what they really want leads them into relationships they don't want, least Ed can throw away the clock but you really can't toss Doris, Araceli, Lucia or the Governor in the trash.
Later that night at the casino Raiza is hard at work on project Miguel, he has a feeling he will win big tonight and Raiza says "I have the same feeling!" but it turns out he only has $100.00 to bet with tonight and if he wins he really wont win much, he suggests that Raiza get him an IOU so he can bet more and she says "sure thing boss" and runs off to get the IOU. She finds MariaA in her office and gets an IOU from her, she mentions that MariaA looks nervous and MariaA tells her not to be surprised with what she (MariA) will be doing tonight.
Fast-forward and we see MariaA greeting the Governor, she tells him that they can have a fake relationship (hu?!) and as she says this she sees Octavio has walked in and in an effort to make him jealous gives the Governor the worst hug ever, it almost looks like he has body odor that she's trying to avoid smelling. She tells the Governor that she has to get back to work but that he should come over to her house for coffee the next day.
I don't know what the heck happened but the next thing I see is clips of all the Maricruz and MariaA moments with Octavio. WTF?
My DVR cut off so I have no clue as to what will happen tonight, sorry peeps!

The writing on this TN is starting to become unforgivable. I may need to stop watching for a bit and wait until Maria Alejandra buys the ranch. Then again, I do love seeing Ana Brenda’s fabulous evening dresses and Octavio’s adorable puppy dog eyes.
Poor Carola is the sole voice of reason in a sea of clueless characters. I hope she sells her part of the casino to Karim and gets the hell out of dodge. She serves no purpose to the plot anymore, unless the writers are finally going to fill us in on her and Teobaldo’s past. I still think there’s a juicy history there.
Hablando del rey de roma, Teobaldo was SO creepy last night!!!! For those who may not have caught it, he said he could picture Aracely as a porcelain doll in an antique shop. WTF? The Phantom of the Opera-esque theme music was very appropriate for that scene, lol.
Octavio needs to grow a set of ball$, NOW. If he doesn’t want to marry Doris, then he needs to call off their relationship. Unfortunately, it looks like he’ll go through with the engagement, if only to spite Maria Alejandra.
The one moment I enjoyed in this episode was Eduardo buying that antique clock. He can be quite the d-bag, but if the writers would only give him more screen time I think we’d all grow to love him.

Okay, this issue of MA's social position is driving me crazy. The owner of the largest and most important employer on Isla Dorada, the daughter of a multimillionaire owner of multiple casinos, cannot aspire to marrying the governor? MA should be lionized BECAUSE of her social position, rather than seen as some kind of outcast. This irritates me not just because it is unrealistic, but because it's not necessary to the plot. If MA was treated with the respect her actual position deserves, it would make an even greater contrast with her life as MC.
I also feel that what Ester is doing in the Jester relationship is hugely underwritten. We went from what seemed to be textbook workplace sexual harassment in one episode, to her declaring in the next episode (very clearly the next morning!) that she loves JA and wants to marry him and have his children. Ester has been an intriguing character ever since she first showed disapproval of what Lucia had done, but it often seems as if her actions come from a random spin of the TN Plot-O-Meter. Plus there's the contradictory motivations she seems to spout in a single episode (or even in a single conversation)--she's getting involved with JA because no alternative men in her social class have presented themselves, she's getting involved with him because it's true, pure, lurve! On the other hand, what JA is doing and saying right now makes more sense, because he's just responding to her crazy actions, and in a somewhat believable way.
Perhaps I'm frustrated with the Ester-JA relationship because I had caught bits of it looking ahead on YouTube, and I'd thought: "Gosh, what an interesting and unexpected twist! I wonder how they'll get together, how the relationship will be built up." And instead it was "blink and you'll miss it anything in between 'send for the doctor, you nameless peon,' and 'I want to have your babies.'"
And by the way (I'm catching up because I was away for a while) I loved it the other day when Octavio was trying to respond Miguel of his responsibilities and they had more or less the following exchange:
Octavio: You've got a wife and a child!"
Miguel: "You've got a wife and a child too!"
Octavio: "That's not the same!"
Miguel: "It's exactly the same!"
Finally a Narvaez recognizes that fact.
I think Teo looks creepy in his new look. And he wants a relationship with Araceli? He's way to old. She's supposed to be about 19 or 20.
MA is not very good at this vengeance thing. She's not supposed to tell everyone her plans. Especially her enemies.
I am enjoying the battles between Mari and Doris. Very entertaining still.
It seems like the writers can't focus on more than two characters at a time, and one of those characters is always Mari, understandably. Now that Doris is her main nemesis, Carola has been forgotten by the writers. Does she ever get to do anything but sit behind her desk? I have never seen a character in a show so tied to one spot. It’s kind of weird. Rocio B. could have filmed her entire role at home, wearing pajama bottoms, and with a green screen ocean behind her, and we wouldn’t have known the difference.
I’m not sure why Mari thinks she can convince/bully Carola into not selling at a ridiculously high price to Karim. What’s in it for Carola? The way Mari treats her, why wouldn’t she take any opportunity she could to screw Mari over? Perhaps we should send Mari the book on making friends and influencing people (not just men looking to get into her pants).
Does Tav not remember he’s married and can’t marry Doris, even if he wanted to? At least this episode Mari acknowledged her marital status, but brushed it aside by saying she married Tav under her other name, so it’s perfectly fine for her to marry the governor under her current name. Somehow, I still think she could be accused of polyandry.
Utah Desert - ITA about the silly plot around class. While we know class still exists, the way the writers are handling it, as they are other plots, is very poor.
Cathyx - I thought Teo wanted MA? And yes MA shouldn't be telling everyone about her revenge tactics.
Yes, I have been annoyed by this "woman of the casino" class thing too. It would be one thing if she was a cigarette girl at the casino like Aracely was, or even a simple employee looking to find a rich husband, like Raiza. But she's the OWNER! And owns lots of other stuff. Brings in a ton of money to the island. She's RICH! It really makes no sense that everyone keeps harping on this "woman of the casino" stuff. Poor, poor writing.
Teo is super creepy but I finally found out where they got that hair look from. Ralph Fiennes in Maid in Manhattan had the same color, hairstyle and even recede depth.
I like how whenever Miguel talks about the bad stuff Lucia did too MC, Tav doesn't want to hear it. So denying his guilt in it all.
I must say the women of this show really do hold all of the strength, MA, Lucia, Esther, Carola, Raiza, Doris...all wield the power over the men. Even poor, nice Araceli.
Vivi, unfortunately I wouldn't count on the writers bringing up the legal issues involved in MA/Octavio's remarriages. There's already so many plot holes.
Utah Desert, I couldn't agree more with you about the social class theme. Doris needs to stop using that card, because nobody is listening. And with good reason.
But that email today?!?! Did Octavio really think that this was something that would pull Miguel back to the ranch? If Octavio wants Miguel out of Isla Dorada and back on the ranch, he should have made sure to never show him that email. Anyone (or particularly any man) in their right mind would stay far, far away from the mess of Ester going after the help and Lucia throwing a hissy fit about it.
Jarifa
Just for giggles....how many episodes of this are left?
Daisynjay
Why did MA ask the gov to come to the casino to talk and then when he gets there, she wants to meet him at home? I would be really mad if I were him and I didn't want to be seen at the casino but go anyway because she really wanted me to, and then have her tell me to meet her at home. And I love your description of their hug. It was real awkward.
I also didn't get the urgency of the email. Why did Octavio think Miguel had to read it right away? It was only about Ester. Who cares.
Vivi, have to agree "Rocio B. could have filmed her entire role at home, wearing pajama bottoms, and with a green screen ocean behind her, and we wouldn’t have known the difference." Carola isn't the only character wasted in this TN.
At some point I hope MA comes out as MC and it isn't someone else ratting her out. I really would like it to happen back at the ranch in front of everyone that has hurt her. I really want to see the reaction on everyone's faces. Hope that happens sooner than later.
I am getting so tired of the Ed/Arci thing. I too think the relation ship between Teo and Carola should be explored a bit more.
I look forward to all the goings on of Corazon Improbable again tonight.
" you can't just go around saying "daddy, you have to tell him to marry me!"
"Minor correction Doris, he's crazy for dating you and that's not the same as someone being crazy about you"
"'all it has to read is "Octavio Narvaez can't marry your daughter because he is currently married to someone else, okaikissesbai" Boom! Problem solved!'"
Thanks for a great lot of smiles at the end of the day!
for a short girl, you sure write tall. This is excellent. Well done. Sorry to be so late commenting but we (the Lovely Linda and I) were out all afternoon.
Mandilón... I like this word too, thanks for pointing it out.
The Governor wants to marry Maricruz and Doris wants to marry Octavio... could we be in for the unhappiest double wedding ever in a TN?
My favorite scene was Eddy buying the clock... is a huge clock collection in his future?
Eli, I'm proud to be on your recapping team

Another producer fail: she failed to make it clear that the only reason MA asked the governor over to the casino was so that Octavio would see them together and believe her claim that the governor is serious about her. We are supposed to believe that the guv had already been there 1/2 hour when O arrived, since she asked the guv to be there at 8 and O to be there at 8:30.
You just brought a tear to my eyes, hearing that from you is a huge, huge compliment.
Gracias! (Although I will never be able to top off" First we buy up all the beanie babies, or "I'm with the Jehovahs Witnesses")
Did they forget about Solita?
So what's interesting is that I checked Wikipedia a while back to see if this would be worth watching. I checked something else again and the spoilers were gone. Wonder if there is a cleaner-upper from Uni or if someone was just having fun playing with Wiki by putting in fakes. The faker might have had more interesting story choices. But still don't look. There are still things that would ruin(?) the fun.
Kelly
Octavio's character is so all-over-the-place that even his chemistry with MA doesn't compensate for it. Vivi and Carvivlie, I had the same reaction when Octavio encouraged him to go back home to his loving wife. I just do not get this character.
Utah Desert, your comment about the JA/Ester relationship is spot-on! This could have been done in such a more interesting, engaging way rather than "one-night-stand-to-marraige-and-babies-in-48-hours." I like them together, but it could have been a much richer (no pun intended) and emotional story with more build-up.
OMG, Teo and the antique store. Beyond creepy. Totally made my skin crawl when he talked about Aracely being a doll in the shop.
Can't stand the milquetoast governor, and how he's pushing this marriage because Doris always gets whatever she wants. I can't stand the stupidity.
I have to agree with everyone, though, in that Eduardo being pressured into buying the clock was the BEST moment in this episode. It was hilarious to see the banter between Oct and Ed that resulted, and Ed's humiliation!
So I'll be going on a recap-only diet with this one for a while. Thanks so much for all the dedicated recappers! Carlos, "Let's buy up all the beanie babies" is still one of my favorite recap moments ever :)
