Qué Bonito Amor #98 (Mex 136) Thursday 8/29/13 Que Bonito Estancamiento

Maria gives Amalia a shot.  Amalia wonders how much more misfortune they can handle.  She can't stop worrying about her daughters.  Even Wendy doesn't think Maria is safe with Ruben on the loose.

Ruben's bleeding from a head wound and even that didn't burst his thought bubble of "Maria will be mine!"

Santos tells Michael that Etrusco came to visit him and threatened Maria.

Wendy decides to call her dad and tell him to get her the hell out of there.  She's back to blaming Santos for this mess, but Amalia (!) and Maria defend him.  Maria blames Wendy's dead boyfriend.

Santos tells Michael he's ready to sacrifice his life and spend it in jail to keep Maria safe.  He waxes rhapsodic about how wonderful Maria is.  He hopes she'll live for both of them now.

Amalia doesn't want to just wait around and see what's going to happen.  She only half jokes that they sure could use a man around the place.  As Maria rightly points out, they don't need no stinkin' man…they've got the Virgen!  Plus Jorge Alfredo is in her heart.

Santos keeps talking to Michael about Maria.  "It's more than love…it's inner peace!"  Yes, yes, you've found the meaning of life.  Dear writers: I'd rather you show me than tell me…repeatedly.  Santos says he's sacrificing his freedom for his luuuuuurve.

Maria keeps working on Wendy, talking about how poor miserable Santos didn't have his family's support when he got to Mexico.

Santos is planning to tell them at the trial that Michael had nothing to do with the money laundering, but Michael refuses to leave him there.  He says it will make him feel like an accomplice.  There's no way he can leave Santos there…Mariachis somos!  Oh, no, sorry, wrong setting….

Maria is going to get a locksmith to change the lock.  Wendy is freaking out, hardcore.  Colosso comes in and gets the news.  He decides to go after Ruben, but Maria would rather he stayed to defend the others.  Colosso swears he'll defend them all from Ruben.

Busy first day in prison.  Santos now has a second visitor--Justo this time.  Justo's glad to see that Santos is ok after the attack.  Santos gives Maria the credit, for teaching him about reading the shadows.  Justo tells him that both he and Wendy have now received death threats, and he's sure OG is behind them.  He swears he'll get to the bottom of all this, and he's sure OG will be arrested soon.  Santos asks Justo to stop investigating.  "It's all over.  I'm staying here, probably forever."

Michael's prison buddy brings him some news--OG is in da house!

Justo is pissed that Santos is giving up.  Santos claims it's to keep everyone safe, but especially Maria.  He tells Justo that Victoriano Etrusco paid him a visit and threatened Maria's life if they didn't stop investigating.  Santos doesn't want everyone to be in danger just to get him out of there.  Justo thinks Santos deserves to be free to enjoy Maria's love.  Santos begs him to just drop the investigation already, but Justo refuses.  "Only my body will be locked up.  My heart will be free!"

Michael is downright gleeful to hear about OG.  His buddy offers to arrange a meeting…an uninterrupted meeting…to talk…about how much they "love" each other.

Concho's blood pressure is sky high.  Lourdes understands all the stress Concho is facing.

Buffalo and Siete Mares talk recovery.  Buffalo tells Siete Mares he can't base it on Ana, but Siete Mares doesn't think he can live without her.

Ana keeps reading the love note over and over.  She shows it to…um…the one who's dating Buffalo, sorry I don't remember her name.  Ana says she really cares about Siete Mares and she can't leave him alone.  She wishes that Fernando had written the note.  *headdesk*

Lourdes tries to convince Elvira not to just leave without even knowing how her father is doing.  She seems to be realizing that she kinda messed up on the whole "raising" thing.  Elvira gets a slap across the face, but it doesn't have the desired effect.

Ana has noticed that the music box is just like the one Fernando gave her.  *headdesk*  She warns the other girl not to convince Buffalo to give her so many gifts that he goes broke.

Colosso fixes Maria's door and jokes around about the "Pochita" (Wendy) and her behavior.  He actually misses Santos juuuuust a little bit.  He even listens when Maria burbles about how she wishes she'd loved Santos even more when she had the chance.

Santos is insisting on sacrificing himself.  Justo is insisting on refusing to let him sacrifice himself.  Santos wishes he could talk to Maria.

Colosso promises Amalia he'll take care of all the women in the house.  They seem to have just noticed that Isa's taking quite a long time to get back from her rambling with Jalisquito.

Santos borrows his dad's cell phone to call Maria.  They have a little phone romance…and a bit of a phone snog…and then Santos tells her something cryptic about evil not knowing love and tells her she's going to have to live for both of them because he's dead.  "Keep your word.  Live for both of us.  You won't hear me sing again."  He bids her goodbye forever.  Sooo…not gonna fight over who hangs up first, then?

Fernando is hanging out with the kids. He buys them cotton candy.  Ana sees them and she and Fernando share a longing glance.

Lourdes cries to the Virgen over Elvira.  She knows she doesn't deserve to ask for help (then don't!) after all the neglect of her daughter, her arrogance, her vanity…but she's realized she made mistakes and she wants to get Elvira off that path.  She begs for some inspiration.

Isa says Fernando's sooooo in luuuuuuuurve with Ana.  She drops one of her bags of shopping and Fernando runs over and insists on picking it up for her.  He's entranced by the sight of her legs from that angle, then stands too close when he stands up.  Siete Mares sees them…and probably heads back to the bottle.

Maria tells the assembled crowd that Santos bid her goodbye forever and said she'd never hear him sing again.

Justo still doesn't agree.  Santos jokes that at another time, he's sure Justo would have objected to him dating a lady mariachi.  Justo asks why Santos called if he really loved her.  "Isn't that selfish on your part?"  Santos says he was being brave by setting her free.  Hm.  That's not the phone call I heard.

Maria decides to take care of things in the DF and then go see Santos.  Colosso says it's dangerous to cross, but Maria is determined and says she'll get there the way everyone else does…hoofing it.

Santos tells Justo that he'll clear Michael at the trial.  The conversation isn't really getting anywhere.

Colosso wonders what "Pochito" did to make Maria fall for him like that.  He caves at Roddy's disapproval and refrains from calling him Pochito again…for all of 30 seconds.  He tells them that he was kept away from Gloria without knowing she was pregnant.  Oh, sure, writers, NOW you confirm that?  Maria wants to have a conversation with Wendy…alone.

Santos says goodbye to Justo and asks him not to come visit him again.  And if he tries, Santos will refuse to see him.  He knows he's being watched and he doesn't want Victoriano to think that Justo is still investigating.  Santos tells his dad he loves him and then walks out.

Tomorrow: Ruben and Elvira celebrate their victory; Santos and Michael get their shot at OG.

O. M. G. Did anything of substance change from the beginning of the episode to the end? I feel like a kid on a car trip...are we there yet?!

Good work, Kat.

What has changed is that Santos went from courageously standing up to El Padrino back into depression. Since it's not likely he will get his hands on a tequila bottle anytime soon we should at least be spared the sight of him drinking himself into oblivion.

He seems to have an almost adolescent view of sacrifice. Like in Romeo and Juliet instead of coming up with an action plan. No wonder so many people think that love makes people weak.

As opposed to Maria getting stronger. Odd.

Justo needs to call Maria ASAP to explain this and to talk her out of trying to cross the border illegally. That might not be helpful and could even work against Santos.

The only thing that could make Justo stop the investigation would be for somebody to break Giuliano. I'm not sure what that would take.

You did your duty, Mme Chat (I'll restrain from calling you Chatitia, though). It was a thrilling ride on a treadmill. Mostly more of the same. But you did the episode credit.

Why did Santos give up so easily and consign himself to the dustheap of prison life....could it be that we have three or four more weeks to go?

He could have asked Justo to find protection for those left behind in Mexico (some kind of Temporary Witness Protection Program?) then hired some real investigators to go after El Padrino.

OTOH, El Padrino has been in this business so long, his tentacles reach far and he has carefully isolated himself from any legal problems. As revenge, if he does get caught, he can ask any number of minions to eliminate Maria after the law has closed him down.

I don't see a way out. And Maria "hoofing" it across the border is more than idiotic. But, if we have three or so more weeks to go, we'll probably have time for her to get lost and MIA and Santos takes the poison and then she shows up just as he dies and she takes the poison, too----oh, that IS Romeo and Juliet.

Anyway, good job, Kat, staying on the treadmill for us.

I too am disappointed in Santos' reaction although to be fair he has probably finally reached his true breaking point. I'm hoping this rejection of everyone who loves him will pass and he will get his spirit back. It galls the bejeezus out of me that everyone thinks this is a life sentence. Its minor money laundering and Cali that's about an 8 year sentence. Then again he may fear that he will be murdered in prison and hence his despair.

Now to Wendy and her blaming Santos. Technically she is right it is because of Santos that all this stuff is happening but Maria was correct in telling her it all began because of her beloved Bruno. I'm also going to defend her this time by pointing out that she is very pregnant, hormones amok, her baby daddy haas been murdered, her mother recently died, she and her father have death threats hanging over their heads, her brother is in prison, she is living in a strange country with people she doesn't know and in an economic style very different from what she is used to. I'd probably go a bit mental myself.

So big bad Coloso is going to protect all these women yeah right but he better round up the mariachi gang and track down Ruben and give him a beatdown like the one OJ got.

I'm of two minds about 7 Seas. Will he go off the deep end recognizing that Ana still loves Fernando , will he tell her he never wrote the letters she has been getting or will he take the easy way out and fall into a bottle of tequila? I'm hoping he mans up and stops depending on Ana but that may be influenced by the fact that I've always like Alejandro Ruiz.

We already know how this ends and I would think it more than insane if the writers decided to have Santos fake his death. His picture has been on the TV screen and website of every news organization.

At what point was this series extended and why? We have 25 episodes left, which is another 5 weeks.

Justo could easily set up a protective situation for Maria, her family, and Wendy. He needs to talk to her and convince her that Santos is sinking into depression again. She might not like the idea of living in a "safe house" with bodyguards but that would be the best thing right now because there is also Ruben she needs to be protected from.

Oscar is well-intentioned here, but he can't protect her all by himself. This also puts Roddy at risk. While all the mariachis together might be able to protect Maria from Ruben that wouldn't be enough to protect her from the Mafia.

Santos didn't appear to know that Giuliano had been captured. That might make him feel better.

URBAN I thought that Michael's prison buddy told both of them that OJ was in the house. You would think that would make Santos feel better but the big threat now is coming the the GF. No matter what Santos said Justo is not going to stop investigating El P which ramps up the danger. Justo simply isn't the kind of man who will sit around doing nothing while his son sits in prison and his family name is smeared.

I also hope he calls the DF or Wendy calls him and tells him what is going on so that he can stop Maria from hoofing it or riding the Death Train. Her going to LA now would solve nothing. I'm also still very curious about the fact that someone is taking pictures of Wendy. Will she be the next victim of a snatch attempt?

Santos faking his death would be stupid but not beyond the realm of TN writers. Yes, his picture as Santos has been all over the place but JA the Mariachi could explain himself as just look alike, a long missing twin or some other stupidness. It happens all the time. LOL

UA & Decie--During the Etrusco-Santos convo, he didn't know OJ had been captured. Justo didn't know it either during his visit to Santos. It was only AFTER he went back to the dentist office they learned OJ had been taken.

This is significant, IF the LA Popo do a credible job. At this point Copper Julius isn't talking (or so it would seem). Attacking him and getting to spill his guts to other prisoners isn't going to help officially--especially if he gets a great beat down. They need to get him to talk to the prosecutor.

ANITA I don't think OJ will talk, he thinks he is so much smarter than everyone else. It is too bad that Santos and Justo didn't know that OJ was in custody because that would make a difference. I'm wondering if El P will put a hit out on OJ since he blames him for all the things that have gone down OJ is now in more danger than Santos in prison but he at least has allies. Considering how inept the LA cops are OJ is likely to get out on bail and flee once again. I keep wondering why Justo hasn't hired a dream team of lawyers to get Santos out. Yes, he may be a flight risk but money launderers typically do get out on bail and let's face it no criminal is ever sent to the penitentiary before trial, they sit in the county jail. Add to that the facgt that Santos is a high profile prisoner from a prominant politically connect, diplomatic family and no warden would risk having something happen to him.

Nothing about police or legal procedure in this series has made any sense yet. So what else is new?

Justo could hire an entire law firm to clear Santos and it would be over in a week. But then, so would the novela.

They have to get Giuliano to spill his guts before the Godfather does, if you get my meaning, because if he dies before the truth comes out, Santos is screwed.

UA--Not only that, but if something "deadly" happens to OJ in prison, Santos and Michael will surely be blamed, even if it's a hit called by El P.

Televisa writers should stop trying to write telenovelas that involve police procedure without reading the manual first, that includes both sides of the border. Let's add courtroom procedure to that statement, too. And let's add prison protocol, too. We go from Santos thrown in a dungeon like oversized, but dark cell to hobnobbing with Michael and Big Guy (who is he anyway? I love his blue eyes) practically unattended--is this normal for a federal prison?

Thats' why I'm enjoying The Bridge. It's a bit out there, but much more realistic.

I forgot to agree with you, too, about Amalia managing to make it all about her--AGAIN.

I've long ago given up on expecting anything in the realm of reality when it comes to novelas and US court procedures, prison set ups and forget about medical procedures. I've always thought they probably got it right on legal aspects and systems in Mexico but have reconsidered since they are so off track about ours. I know they are going for dramatic impact but you can still get it right - The Bridge is a case in point. I'm loving it if it is a little dark both story and sometimes the filming.

Everything bad is always about Amelia and how she just KNOWS it is going to happen. She is an exceedingly tedious character and I'm even starting to dislike Angelica Maria because of it.

Somebody definitely has to rein in Maria and her idea of crossing the border. Does she think she is just going to stroll up and slip under a fence like OJ did? I'm guessing she would head for Tijuana or Mexicali but it no easy trick to illegally cross at those heavily patrolled spots. Has no one told her about the danger, not just of la migra but of coyotes and smugglers and her being a beautiful woman traveling on her own would be prey for all kinds of horrible things — that Amelia could blame on JAntos.

I've always found Angelica Maria tedious simply for being the Doris Day of Mexico.

Decie Girl, I was thinking the same thing about the dangers Maria would encounter if she tried to do this. It would be suicidal.

URBAN The Doris Day of Mexico how cute right down to the permanently lacquered hair and bangs. She does tend to play the too clingy mother — she was almost as obnoxious in LFMB.

Doris Day? Has Angelica Maria ever been PERKY?
