CI Cap. 78 8-29-13 Oh, the Drama and the Trauma! Lucia’s Invited to the Rose Garden and Ester’s Between the Rocks and a Hard Place.

The strands of drama (Lucia) and trauma (Ester) twist tightly through this episode, with only a few bits of wedding fluff for comic relief.

Previously
Doris and Mariana discuss the upcoming Ed/Arecely wedding and how SUD will go so Daddy Gov will stay home. (Hey, it made sense to Doris.)
Ed and Teflon Tav discuss the wedding madrina and compare the bride’s cheap dress with Doris’ expensive couture creation. The guys agree it’s the woman inside who counts. Tav loved MariCruz in rags more than MariAle in satin.
Arecely and Sonia are thrilled to open a check for $3,000 in honeymoon money from Madrina MariAle. The Gov, meanwhile, is sending a check for $1,000 while Doris chips in a measly $200 (not too much, not too little she says).
After a chilly formal greeting, our two gorgeous antagonists get down to business. Lucia hopes for mercy, but MA is quick to point out Lucia showed no mercy to her, so she can’t expect any in return.  However, there’s another option and Lucia can do her bit.

The Cat Toys with the Mouse
MariAle tells Lucia her plan for redeeming Miguel’s IOUs so he won’t have to go to jail for non-payment. If she agrees, the payment term is extended to one year. If not, it’s only 24 hours. When MA says it’s a hard thing, Lucia sarcastically says she’s sure it is. Really, the merciless MA continues, it’s simple, but annoying. (A little understatement here, MA?)

The smiling ice queen tells her victim that so much could happen in a year. A defiant Lucia claims she doesn’t regret anything she did, with MA retorting “You will.” When Lucia opts into the plan, MA tells her to bring Miguel and Tav with her at 4 pm tomorrow afternoon, to rendezvous on the casino dock.

In the Cabin That Did Not Win a Design Award
While Lucia is making her decision, Ester is struggling with the results of her choice. Turns out she was trying to start a fire with green wood, so her lack of success isn’t surprising. Clorinda comes over to help her and advises that a pregnant woman shouldn’t strain herself hauling water. The other women’s bones and muscles are used to hard work, but Ester’s a dainty little thing.

While the water pot is heating, Clo takes pity and helps our haggard housewife start the beans. First, sort out the trash and put them to soak with water. Then, cook them with salt and onion and you’ll have a happy man. Ester turns a weary face to the open air window (of course the entire cabin is open air) and thinks she’ll never be able to adapt to this lifestyle. (I remember the days when she had to have the best furniture in her hacienda guest room because she was so special.)

Clorinda returns later to point out rice must be done like an artist, not cooked too much or too little (like Doris’ gift!). Ester admits she never went in the kitchen at home. Clo suggests asking Sabina, a retired cook for rich folks, to teach Ester. She might need a little cash, but Ester doesn’t have a cent.

Frat House Hi-Jinks Interlude
Ed enters the hotel room struggling to balance a tall stack of wedding gifts. The guys realize it’s their last day as partners and Ed confesses how completely Arecely caught him.  They check out the gifts and get a big laugh from the lingerie with the pink ribbons. (Tav tries to get Ed to try it on.)

A Thirst for Vengeance and Water
MariAle is simultaneously cuddling Lupita on her shoulder (aawwww) and drinking a tall glass of water given her by Juanita. (Vengeance makes a girl thirsty.) They discuss MA’s madrina dress, newly delivered, which will make her look like a queen, etc. She’ll be parading with the Gov and dominating the social scene. And, tomorrow, she’ll have satisfaction when she’s ground Lucia into the dirt—er, mud. It will be a lesson Lucia will never forget!

Later, MA calls Marco (grounds keeper?) to her office for special instructions. In the rose garden of the casino, he should dig a big hole, fill it with water, add dirt and stir it around until it’s mire. It must be ready by 4 pm tomorrow.

The Nervous Narvaez Chat Among Themselves
Several scenes underline the sense of unease prevailing in the Narvaez family. Mig hopes MA will give them the IOUs, but Lucia is sure she won’t. MA breathed hatred from every pore during their meeting. Whatever is planned could be a cruel joke, but Lucia will Sacrifice because of Love. (She’s going to Stand By Her Man, even if he is an idiot drunkard who gambled away their patrimony.)

Miguel checked again with the banks, but none want to loan money on their (non-existent) collateral. Lucia’s scared, Tav’s not sure what’s happening (no surprise there) and Miguel thinks it will be worth it if they can save their land. Lucia thinks they’ll face an eye for an eye, tooth for tooth. The only thing they know for sure is that MariCruz is unpredictable, so anything could happen.

Another Day Dawns and it’s the day of Ed and Arecely’s wedding. However, we have an assortment of dread and torment to slog through before we can view the evening ceremony and celebration.  We have that ugly 4 pm ceremony to witness first.  MariAle makes an anonymous phone call to ShutUpDoris, inviting her to be on the casino dock at 4 pm to witness a “very interesting” scene. Doris ponders, then decides she’ll attend. Just in case the casino woman is there, she picks out a special spiffy outfit.

MariAle, going to inspect her project, approves Marcos’ work. She asks him to keep some extra buckets of water nearby, in case the mud dries out. (And was Teo ever allowed to caress the roses in the casino garden? Or was he restricted to his own garden? Did he and Carola ever meet by moonlight in the rose garden?  OK, sorry, off track here.) MA also checks with Tony, who was instructed to have all the available staff on the dock at 4 pm. It would seem that the stage is set for the Narvaez’ date with destiny (or doom).

Dropping a Social Level or Four
Back in the Free Lands, Ester has a date, but her companion is a load of laundry. (At least she knows to check the pockets of the pants!) JA considers Ester’s love for him, whether it will last, and how he’d like to do better for her, with a background serenade of goats bleating and roosters crowing. He comes to her and Ester asks what he has on his mind? His reply takes an unfortunate turn, as he tells her she’s very brave. Soon she’ll be old and her body will be deformed after having many children. (Yeah—every woman wants to hear this in her first pregnancy!)

Ester protests he’s trying to scare her! He points out the other women, who were pretty at 16 and are old at 30. “Don’t be cruel,” she begs. JA says again she should look around her at the place they live in. She thinks love is what matters and she loves him with all her heart!  After this disheartening bit of social realism, the scene closes.

She Doesn’t Look Like a Dead Woman Walking
Luciafer is ready for her 4 pm appointment, once she delivers MiniMigi to the hotel nursery. She’s a little late returning to the room since she had to get him back to sleep, but the two men are ready and they leave for the casino. She looks beautiful and dynamic in a royal blue gown and bright red lipstick, the evil queen going to battle.

The monarch of the casino, MariCruz/Ale is also dressed for battle in a ruby red sheath dress (but no matching lipstick.)  She strides out on the dock, greeting the assembled staff (who are in uniform, everyone from the cigarette girls to the chef.) She says she has something she wants them to witness.  Tony and Raiza don’t know what the event is, but are intrigued by the atmosphere of grandiose drama.

The three Narvaez arrive, Lucia flanked by the two men as they walk the length of the dock. MC/A tells everyone they are waiting for one more person before they start. Doris arrives and stands by Tav’s side. He attempts to assert some Narvaez power, asking if all these witnesses are necessary? MC/A says “No, but that’s the way I want it,” asserting her own power. She then invites all to follow her to the rose garden where “an interesting ceremony” will take place. (Understatement, again. Riveting is more like it.)

Tav holds back, protesting that he likes to know what kind of show he’ll see before he gets there. MC/A says he can leave if he doesn’t want to stay. Mig thinks his girlfriend shouldn’t see them humiliated, so Tav tries to get Doris to leave. No way! She’s not afraid and she wants to stay with him.  The staff move up the ramp from the dock to the rose garden, as the Narvaez decide they’ll see how far she goes—she really is (or has) “Wild at Heart--CORAZON INDOMABLE”  (You get a drink of your choice when they say the title like that.)

A rapid percussion soundtrack increases the tension as the Narvaez walk up the ramp and are framed in the arch entering the garden.  Tav and Doris are first, then Lucia, and finally Miguel. (If we didn’t know there was a mud pit there, we might expect a scaffold or a firing squad from appearances.)

She Feels Like a Dead Woman and She Can’t Walk
Ester is once more alone in the shack. Pains start in her baby bump, as she gasps, cries out, and clutches her belly. “Dios Mio!” She wonders if it could be the impending birth, but it’s too early. She needs help! She tries to go for aid, but collapses on the ground in a faint.

Clorinda sees her fallen neighbor and rushes to help. She gets her to bed, where Ester complains of chills and dizziness. Clo will help, but Ester begs for a doctor. The nosy neighbor boy agrees to find the person who owns a cart. Meanwhile, Clo says, Ester should do like every woman there and pray for help. Clo keeps praying and blessing Ester. At work, JA feels that Ester needs him. (Well, yes. She does. And a team of other people, too.) We leave Ester in this precarious state until next time.

At Least the People In This Mud Scene Are Well Dressed
Lucia reaches the garden entrance where the mud pit is evident in all its ugliness. Lucia stops, feeling MariCruz’ sinister intent as flashbacks of the necklace retrieval run through her mind.  She begs MC for mercy, and is asked if she showed mercy to MC?  The implacable princess of vengeance tells Marcos to take the IOU papers and place each one in the mud, making sure they are covered. Lucia, looking desperate and teary, hears MC tell her to kneel in the mud and use her mouth to pick up the papers. As she hesitates, MC asks why she is waiting? Tav says “Punish me!” (We could vote for that, on the basis of weak galan conduct!) MC refuses, as only Lucia can pay for what she did long ago.  If not that, the police take Miguel to jail!

Doris, as usual, feels the need to express her opinion. “This woman is crazy!” (OK, Doris. We’ll give you this one, since many in Viewerville might agree with you. At least a little.)  MC snaps out that Doris should be quiet, she’s only here to witness.  Lucia has regained her determination and steps up to the edge of the mud. “I’ll take those papers, ONE BY ONE, out of the mire.” She stands there, in this precarious state, until next time.

Coming Attractions:  Lucia in the mud and Lucia telling Tav to marry Doris.

Love the title!! Can't wait for the recap!!!

I,m thrilled that Maricruz is getting back at that lady with the wild eyes.
I foresee: MariAle gets her revenge by reconciling with Oblivio, knowing full well that she has squandered the fortune she inherited (except for a trust fund left for Solita, Solita's baby and Tobias). She's used to living rough, but Oblivio isn't, so he leaves and is snapped up by Doris who gives him all her money to make him marry her. MA can now sue O for support and alimony. O is impoverished and living with Doris in the house that JA built, while he, wife and baby live off the rental income. Eduardo and what's her name rush to cash those checks before they go bad and get out of town. The end.

I had to conduct a little ceremony of my own today. I cleared a spot in the back yard (which is kind of patchy anyway) where I built a small fire. I tried to get the family lined up as witnesses, but they weren't interested. I had to settle for the dog and cat, but the cat wouldn't sit still and the dog laid down.

Then, I brought out my trusty telenovela beanie and I BURNED it. Yes, I did. This TN has stretched it so far out of shape it had lost all power.

The only thing I can do now is watch numbly and hope that somehow MariAle and Tav and the rest of the crew learn something somewhere along the line. Just enough that I can somehow justify their happy ending. They have a ways to go. I like them and I wish them the best, but they just jerk us around.

La Paloma, thank you for the wonderful title and recap.

Ester is just too dumb. If she wants to play house in a shack that is one thing but putting an unborn child at a disadvantage when you can afford better is something else. No sympathy for her.

So funny how Lucia and family doesn't get it. Even with no money they still don't get it. The mud will be a great equalizer for everyone but them. No sympathy for the Narvaez.

Let the mud games begin!

Jarifa

thanks, La Paloma.

Yikes...this show just gets crazier and crazier. It gives a whole new meaning to the expression "Here's mud in your eye." Watching the staff lined up along thevrose garden to watch the formal eating of the mud ceremony was ...there are no words. It looks like perfectly dressed and coiffed Lucrazia is about to go for it. Goodbye dignity..hello mud.

La Paloma - loved your comment about your own back yard beanie-burning ceremony! Thanks so much for the recap?

Well, Carlos, it looks like you do get Lucia in the mud pit after all. She certainly dressed up for it, LOL!

La Paloma - Hilarious recap, but I must say that your comment about your beanie burning ceremony had me with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. I suggest that you hurry up and buy another beanie PRONTO. You are going to need it for the second half of C.I. - no joke!!!!!!

Wow, La Paloma...
The strands of drama (Lucia) and trauma (Ester) twist tightly through this episode, with only a few bits of wedding fluff for comic relief.
What a great opening statement! Now back to read the rest of the recap.

Back again...so well-written, captions and text...outstanding. And I enjoyed imagining you in your own backyard ceremony with an ungovernable cat and a bored dog. Pretty much sums up this show doesn't it? (sorry Gringo.)

Anyway, it's an interesting if crazy ride. Can't imagine how the Ester/JA scenario is going to play out, but I'm pretty much on board with Susanlynn...I hate all the main characters!

Nevertheless, Lucia needs to make amends. And even munching mud won't atone for the death of Grandpa. So I'll stick around to see how this mess evolves.

Your recap was excellently written and well structured, la Paloma, so you can criticize this plot miasma all you want!

La Paloma- Your beanie lasted longer than mine. LOL! Fabulous recap, amiga.

I am so worried about this mud ceremony...so worried that that beautiful blue dress will get ruined! I hope Televisa has a really good dry cleaners.

Poor Carlos. You get the mud eating, AND a medical emergency, where surely all kinds of screwy things will happen. Will this finally make JA decide to treat Ester better and change his negative attitude?

I have to say I've been looking forward to seeing Lucia pay for what she's done to Maricruz. What I would wonder about is how this will make Maricruz look to everyone else.

Unless she's decided to sell everything and move to another country. In which case I support her all the way.

"Soon she'll be old and her body will be deformed from having many children." Wow., Say WHAT. ????? THat JackAss is quite the sweet talker. What a charmer. Ester's romantic fantasy of life with a noble savage is dimming , and here comes cruel reality.

Call me chicken, but for some reason this nuttiness was hard to watch last night. Plus Nadal was playing at the open, and well, there are priorities.

May your dear beanie rest in peace Ll Paloma, and your recap was a fitting salute to the ongoing WTH of this TN. Now that we're down in the mud again, you still have to wonder how low they can keep going. And kind of heartless of MA/MC to schedule this little show same day as the wedding. That kind of bugged me.

As for back at the hovel, I'm starting to think that JA is doing all this on purpose to push Ester away. He's convinced this won't work and he's doing everything in his power to make her see that she's not fit for the life. But what a jerk for the extremes he went to with a pregnant woman. My guess is she either loses the baby or we lose Ester. Don't like either scenario, but then a lot of the plot is hard to take.

Great recap but sorry you had to lose your beanie over this TN!

If Esther loses the baby I can imagine her daydreams of a simple life will be through. JA seems to verbally abusing Esther at every turn, in some vain attempt to toughen her up.

At first I wasn't to keen on the public humiliation of Lucia but then this is payback for not only the mud but the prison trip, where MC was publicly humiliated in front of all the townspeople, etc. So justice served. I just wish MC had let Miguel and Tav know exactly why this type of punishment was justified. They don't know about the mud and she should have explained herself. Not that it would have done any good I guess.

Hate to see that beautiful blue dress in the mud. I guess lots of makeup and maxi dresses are Lucia's armor against the world but I would have chosen a slightly less "look at me" ensemble.

Thanks for this wonderful recap, Paloma. Very well-crafted and very entertaining. Sorry about you beanie.

Interesting, Doris does the best job of sizing up Maricruz's mental status:

"This woman is crazy!”

Takes one to know one, I suppose.

Those beans sound yummy, don't they? Beans (at least they're washed and the rocks removed) onion, and salt. Maybe the little animals that the kid says live in the river water will add a bit of flavor.

I'm guessing there will be no monkey tonight.

Carlos

I too wonder how Maria Alejandra will appear to the folks of Isla Dorada after this. And don't think Doris won't spread it around!

This is a minor humiliation compared to what Maricruz went through. Her "prize" after retrieving the necklace from the muddy prickly pear patch was to be accused of robbery of the necklace, thrown in jail, and then have her grandpa burned down in his hut. Lucia was more than cruel.

Esther/JA storyline - just disgusting!!!

I think this TN is the best one showing at the moment, in spite of all the beanie stuff, sloppy writers and bad editing. At least it has a plot (a compelling one even) and the plot keeps moving right along!

Audrey

Carlos..."Takes one to know one" made me spit out a mouthful of coffee. You took me right back to the elementary school playground.

My problem is with the staff. That is one ginormous cruise ship! She only has 12 employees on duty and they are all at the mud wrestling event. Secondly, who is watching the gamblers and serving the customers...making beds...serving drinks...putting on stupid shows...running the kareoke machine?

Hmmm La Paloma, is the fire still burning? Do you have enough embers for another beanie?

Cynderella
Cynderella

La Paloma, I was thinking how lucky you were to get the episode where Lucia gets her humiliation, only to find out that they dragged it out for an entire show and never got to it. I hope they don't drag it out through another show.

I thought Lucia looked very clownish with her heavy makeup on the eyes and lips. It was way over the top. Scary.

Audrey, I'm not watching any of the others because they all seemed to not be very good, but it's hard to imagine that this is the best of the bunch. Yikes.

Cynderella, maybe MC invited only the early shift workers. We know that it's 4:00pm.

Cathyx- I'm going to respectfully disagree with Audrey. La Tepestad is full of hunks (bad and good) who take their shirts off; I don't want to murder the protagonists; and there are actually characters I like! The plot has a serious thread of human trafficking running through it, and there is an interesting back story from the past that we are getting parts of. Sorry, as cheesy was parts of it are, it is WAY better than CI so far. And of course the writing, editing and direction have been way better. The only places where CI ahead is in the quality of acting in the heroine, and the heroine’s wardrobe. Although Marina’s wardrobe is excellent, with a nautical theme, but also very sensible. She would look silly wearing evening gowns to a fishing plant. :)

I can't believe I'm promoting a Mejia tn, but when the comparison is to his wife's mess, then so be it.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Cynderella..Maybe some of the staff was smart enough to hide out somewhere on the ship , and they are now engaged in less distasteful activities ...like emptying ashtrays and cleaning toilets. The whole spectacle is so degrading to EVERYONE.

I think the mud thing would have been just as degrading to Lucia without the staff there-- if it were just the family and Doris.

From the staff's point of view, given that they know nothing of the history between Mari and Lucia, and all they probably know of Lucia is that she's Miguel's wife and that they have a sick child, it must look extremely cruel and crazy. I hope she at least explains a bit more to the assembled crowd, because she just looks like a crazy raging witch in that scene, to a bystander.

She needs to work on finding evidence that Lucia was behind the fire so that she can throw her in jail. With Ewsebio dead, that will be difficult now. But Mari doesn't know that. (Or does she? With this crazy editing, who knows?)

So far, Mari's vegeance has only gone into play because the Narvaez somehow all ended up randomly on her island (not her doing at all). Otherwise, what was her revenge plan, I wonder?

I wish that MC would make a statement about what Lucia made her do years ago and that she is now repaying Lucia. Most people would probably just watch and think that MC is evil without knowing the back story.

Haha Vivi, we cross posted about the same thing.

I absolutely don't buy JA just knowing that Ester needs him. He doesn't seem to be in touch with how Ester feels any other time.

Sorry, Vivi, but I find La Tempestad unbearably tedious. I do enjoy reading the recaps though.

Different strokes!

Is Teobaldo not part of the wedding? I really don't like how cinicos are the prometidos(although it is in Ed's character)by forgetting Teo and going straight for the rich people. I'm going to assume he walks her down the aisle, but the couple doesn't seem to respect how he is really the one who put their relationship on the right course.

Advice to MariAle: Stop the reckless spending, leave O to Doris, living well is the best revenge.

Are they doing reality TV shows in Mexico, too? I almost expected Donald Trump to step out and say, You're Fired!

Audrey- Maybe if Ed took his shirt off more often, I might change my mind. ;-)

Daniela- Aracely mentioned that Teo is away on a trip. Not sure why they couldn't have postponed the wedding till he gets back, but whatevs. The audience knows Teo's off in Paris being "Angel" with Karim.

Daniela said: "I foresee: MariAle gets her revenge by reconciling with Oblivio, knowing full well that she has squandered the fortune she inherited (except for a trust fund left for Solita, Solita's baby and Tobias)."
Did I miss something or is the above just an hypothetical ending?
MC/MA surely didn't go through all the loot yet. She still has other casinos and she has the ranch her father left her. This has got to amount to a few million at least. No unless she has given away the the loot, I think she still is comfortable. And if push cam to shove, she could always marry the marry the "island ruler" or Karim.
Like Scarlet, MA/MC will never go hungry again.

Great recap La Paloma!

This was the first episode I watched of this novela, just to see the mud scene and I was dissapointed that they split it for two episodes. That was a very iconic scene in Marimar.

Daniel Arenas is a better actor than Capetillo but his character seems meaner.

I had no idea who Esther and Jose Antonio were but that storyline was so bizarre. I had no idea if he was a villain or what. I was annoyed that they kept going back to them.

Jarocha

Sorry, I meant that I was annoyed that the main storyline was slower because the editors placed the Esther/JA scenes in between those of MC. I just had no investment in them since I didn't know them.

Jarocha

La Paloma---For someone who doesn't seem to like this novela very much, you hit the recap ball out of the park with a home run. I mean, line after line a 10+ -----
The strains of drama twist tightly through this episode.---The cat toys with the mouse---The cabin that did not win a design award---open air window, of course the entire cabin is open air---dropping
a social level or four---vengeance
makes a girl thirsty---a background serenade of goats bleating and roosters crowing---we
might expect a scaffold or a fireing squad from appearances.---
La Paloma there's more but I think you get my point. Thank you for a 10+ recap.

Doris says, "this woman is crazy" and many in viewerville agree with you. I go on record as not agreeing with ShutUpDoris. In fact, I don't think that Maricruz went far enough. As I said in yesterday's post, Mari should have bought a catus patch and had it flown in for the occasion. Lucifer
should have had to take off her designer shoes and walk thru the cactus patch just as Mari did. Also---Maricruz made a BIG MISTAKE.
Before she told Lucifer what she was to do, Mari should have told the audience/the casino workers the whole background story in detail. Even Oblivio doesn't know what or why Maricruz is doing this.
Her/Mari's actions should be made perfectly clear, including Lucifers lie that the necklace belonged to Oblivio's mother and that it was a family heirloom. She should have also told the people how Lucifer looked down on the poor
people and how she was filled with glee when Maricrus's face was in the mud and also that afterwards Mari was accused of theft and hauled off to jail. That's what Maricruz should have told the casino workers. If she had done that, no one, not even Doris would be able to say---she's crazy.

Carlos---Glad that you get the recap tomorrow, it's fitting. You have two strikes now---Sweet Don Abuelo and crazy wild eyed Lucifer
with mud in her eye. Remember Carlos, three strikes and you're out.

Quite a scenario Daniela.

Jarifa---I agree, no sympathy for the nose in the air haughty Narvarez.

Thank you Audrey---best one showing
I love the novelas but can't get interested in any others. I do watch bits and pieces of Porque El Amor Manda, but only bits and pieces---Corazon Indomable is the one that I won't mis for anything,
poor writing or not.
the gringo

Vivi---With La Tempestad you get to see some open shirts but you also get to look at Levy's terrible
ugly hair every night---not for me.
the gringo

Hair? Who's looking at his hair? LOL! But, he's also not the only mancandy either.

The rare times when Ed takes his shirt off, it makes me forget about his shellacked hair.

@Carvivlie - re your comment "I just wish MC had let Miguel and Tav know exactly why this type of punishment was justified" - just remember that we haven't yet seen the whole mud-eating sequence, only the beginning.

@Audrey - I agree with your comment that "I think this TN is the best one showing at the moment, in spite of all the beanie stuff, sloppy writers and bad editing."

@Cynderella - she only requested casino staff, not the staff for the entire ship. She doesn't own the ship; she leases the parts that are used for the casino only. If she owned/leased the whole ship, she could just live on it.

@Vivi - re your comment that La Tempestad is better than C.I. and that "The only places where CI is ahead is in the quality of acting in the heroine, and the heroine’s wardrobe." ONLY?! To me the acting, along with the chemistry between the leads, is WAY more important than the plot. As I've mentioned before, I've seen the two previous versions of this novela, so I was well aware of the beanie-busting plot, and I don't care, as long as the acting is good and the chemistry too. And I dare say that the reason C.I. continues to be #1 in both Mexico and the USA (yes, it remains #1 here too) is because the acting/chemistry is WAY better on C.I. than on the TNs on air right now on Univision and Televisa. That's not speculation. I follow the fan pages on FB and Twitter and that's my take from all the comments I read there. Also, I watched a few episodes of La Tempestad and the acting of the leads is SO BAD (even William is awful, and I've watched 3 of his previous ones) that I couldn't stomach it anymore, no matter how interesting the plot may be.

Honestly Vivi, a poor plot and no beefcake makes this TN hard to watch.

La Paloma, wish I had been at your bonfire, my beanie is also shot.

I'm beginning to see Lucia as normal next to MC's present state. I'm glad she is getting even but with all those witnesses, I just think they will feel sorry for Lucia. They weren't there when Lucia humiliated MC. MC is going to suffer more punishment, she is going to end up with Octavio.

Now to Ester. Is the baby going to drop through one of Ester's pants legs? I've been looking forward to the rainy season and the shack. JA should not get in the construction business.

!Stop the insanity!

my capcha
messubp, guess they have been watching

Variopinta, that's what I was thinking when Ester was going into labor. Shouldn't they take her pants off? lol. But this is a G-rated show.

I have to agree with Vivi on CI vs La tempestad. LT is way better, so far. But since it is also Mejia, I don't expect it to last.
CI is worse than FELS, which I thought impossible.

But hey, different strokes, etc.

Vivi---Ed's shellacked hair. You got me laughing, I don't like the shellack either.

What is the matter with JA? You guys think that Maricruz is bad. I can't believe how bad caveman JA is. I'm surprised that he doesn't have a beard and grunts when he speaks.
Where is the doctor for Ester?? Good Grief!!
the gringo

Variopinta- Yes, we definitely have to qualify it with "so far". I am sure it will go off the rails soon enough. It's Mejia after all. LOL!

Latina- If only these two were together enough to capitalize on their great chemistry. Alas, they are hardly together. And when they are, one or both of them says and does such stupid things that it makes me want to shoot them. I am not ready to shoot either of our protags in LT (yet). Plus, WL is a great kisser, even with a newbie like XN as his galana. All the rest of the cast is made of of amazing vet actors, so LT wins the acting prize too. The only win is ABC vs XN (but that's an unfair comparison given the experience level).

In gerneral, I think the lineup of Televisa tns right now is very weak. The weakest I've seen since I started watching 4 years ago. Even the Telemundo lineup is weak right now.

I'm hoping Doris slips and falls into the mud pit as well. She made a big deal about picking out a blingy dress so that she would outshine Maricruz. Foreshadowing? I hope so!

gringo,

"Remember Carlos, three strikes and you're out."

Hey, you left out that I also had the kid's tumble down the stairs... shouldn't that also count as a strike? If it does then I might be joining the little monkey soon. Plus there looks like a high risk pregnancy on its way to delivery tonight as well. Two strikes in one night?

Carlos

Carlos- Maybe you'll even get the wedding tonight. There are bound to be some fireworks there too.

Vivi,

Yikes! If that's the case perhaps instead of my usual Tequila, I should switch to the Apple Pie (an illegal high octane beverage, not a dessert) that my receptionist Darla brought back for me from her most recent trip to Kentucky.

Her story of the late night purchase is hilarious as well as exciting.

Carlos

Vivi, if during the wedding, MC and Tav look at each in any sort of sentimental way over the vows they took just a year before, I'll kick the TV. Tav admitted to her that he never loved her and she now knows what kind of a man he is. I really hope the director and writers don't go the traditional route of softening married enemies through another's wedding.

Oh my! Is that it in the paper bag? It looks dangerous. I say, take liberal sips of it as you write the recap.

Carvivlie- Doris will be in attendance. I am sure she won't put up with any "loving" looks exchanged between Tav and Mari, if they are inclined to give them.

Thanks for all the beanie sympathy and kind wishes.

Cynderella asked if any embers were left. Alas, I let the fire burn down and put some water on it. Then the dog watered what was left. I think he resents the monkey being written out of the script.

Gringo, I truly don't dislike this TN, I just can't resist picking the low-hanging comedic fruit. I like most of the actors, especially our lead couple, but the writers put some "que que what?!" stuff in that doesn't make sense.
I can see we still have a long way to go before the end. I'm sure MA, Tav and some of the others will be in difficult situations. I just hope they learn from it and find a good direction. I wouldn't miss an episode, either.

La Paloma this was hilarious. I loved your beanie burning ceremony as well.

I hope MA does tell Lucia's evil conduct before the mud-fest begins.

Carvivlie - ITA w/you about loving looks. Tav is a jerk along the lines of JA. How the writers will create a plausible situation w/MA & Tav getting back together I think is beyond the beanie.

Didn't mean to start a TN war. I think it just shows people have different tastes and/or different things that pull them into a TN. William Levy doesn't do anything for me, so that doesn't draw me to the TN and clearly from the comments I'm in the minority in that regard among females.

And even though I adore Iván Sanchez, the Hernán character is so nasty AND boring AND repetitive, that I can't bear to watch him. Last night's interminable violin playing with flashbacks as filler, and then topped off with the numerous cuts to the bikini babes in the pool was el colmo for me.

If one or more of the female leads doesn't draw me in to a TN, I usually don't end up watching it. Frankly, I'm surprised that I got caught up in the dramatic silliness of Corazón Indomable, but Ana Brenda as Maricruz/Maria Alejandra reeled me in, and Daniel Arenas interacting with her on screen is very powerful.

Audrey- Ana Brenda is doing a fab job in this. This is really her vehicle, no one else's. The rest of the cast could really disappear, except for Tav, but just for kissing scenes.

Nuh-uh! We must have Lupita as well.

Carlos - I'm with Vivi. Take careful sips of that thing in the paper bag. With that by your side tonight, there is no reason to fear the mud!

OK Lupita too. But only if Mari stops saying hateful things into her little ears.

What if this tn were a one woman show, like a play? We would only see and hear Mari and her retelling of all the events. I think ABC could pull it off, and this tn is already like that, in many ways.

Variopinta....Good point about Ester delivering that baby through her pants leg. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV, but I've had three babies. Midwife..the pants have to go. Just t sayin'.

Vivi..I am with you. I watch LT faithfully, but I can only surf in and out of this novela sporadically . It makes me too frustrate, and it's depressing.

Carlos..Is Kentucky Apple Pie another name for Moonshine.....or The Recipe that the Baldwin Sisters produced on Walton's Mountain ??? The mason jar in the brown paper bag makes it look a little dicey.

Actually I would much rather see Lucifer loose the rancho to Maricruz than to see her get her makeup soiled with a little bit of mud. I think that Maricruz is very lenient. Now let's see---mud for mud--ok, even. One year to work and pay off the debt and you keep all that is yours. For all that they did to you Mari, had you thrown in jail on false charges, burned your house/shack, killed your abuleo and forced you to leave town. I'd say that your offer to get even is very gracious,
very gracious indeed and more than they deserve since they, the Narvaez are not sorry. Sorry maybe that you got the upper hand but all in all, very defiant. You are showing way too much mercy Mari but
maybe you don't want to torture your soul with the past forever, maybe you are looking for a way to call things even and move on.
the gringo

About that heavy makeup that Lucrazia is wearing...maybe she found some brand with Teflon in it (like Tav's brain) so that the mud won't stick. The terms "mudslinging" and "muckraking " keep swirling through my brain.

Gringo- Considering Mari said out loud the other night that the rancho would be "MIO!", I really don't think she plans on letting them have that year to pay debt, or earn the money to pay the debt. Don't worry. I'm sure mud isn't the only thing she has planned.

The Narvaez haven't been running the ranch successfully for a long time, and we recently learned that many of their cattle have been stolen, so it will be hard for them to come with the money in a year. Are the loans only against Miguel's portion of the ranch? If so, Maricruz and Tav could become partners, which would be interesting.

Carlos: Have you watched "Justified" on FX? "Apple Pie" featured prominently in season 2 and actually proved fatal for one character. Proceed with caution!

I also agree that MC believes the Ranch will be hers because she sees how hapless Miguel is. She doesn't believe a year will make any difference.

Supposedly Luciafer already sold the cattle and tried to give the money to Miguel, but he told her to return to the ranch and use the money to live on. It was never mentioned again, not even when they needed money for the operation.

Susanlynn,

this Apple Pie is definitely a moonshine boutique product. I'd never heard of it until Darla presented me with it on her return from a visit with her husband's family in Kentucky this summer. It is very smooth, very tasty, and very strong. We drink it straight... chilled.

Perhaps sometime I'll tell the story of the trip she and her niece (a pretty coed at UK) made to a rural Kentucky community to make the purchase. Every sip makes me smile.

I was going to suggest a new avatar Carlos & low & behold, what do I see?

CI really is coasting on ABC and DA's chemistry. There are good actors in this, who were given AWFUL material. I faithfully watched La Patrona which was also a venganza tn, and it was done really well. Taut, no-filler writing, great actors with the protags having smoking chemistry. It was so good they could make a good sequel to it. Your beanie remained loose on that one. Still, I think telemundo's tns right now, as weak as they are, Santa Diabla, Marido and dama y Oberero are ok, are better than Univision'sand much better technically than CI.

Audrey, William Levy does nothing for me, neither does Fernando colunga. They, in fact, creep me out. IMHO, galans should be dark-haired, dark-eyed, but even then, I don't like JenCarlos in PP. He reminds me of Zoolander. I'm a Jorge Luis Pila, Pablo Montero, Fernando Carrillo type of girl. David Arenas also reminds me of Jorge Luis Pila and he is great with Ana Brenda.

Hi, La Paloma: Just wanted to compliment you on the fine recap. I have not yet watched the show but this recap intrigues me. You guys have a fine recapping team over here. I will try to tune in so I can make an intelligent comment once in a while.

Do we have an Ester and Lucia as names required for a new Televisa TN?

Thanks again for the good recap.
