MARIDO EN ALQUILAR – LUNES – Part 1

Griselda descends the stairs in the dress that Antonio gave her. Her hair is nicely styled and Amalia has done a light, tasteful makeup job. The two pretendientes at first stand there mouths agape and then begin lots of dumb jockeying for position and babbling compliments. This behavior suits the character of Gabriel, but Reinaldo not so much. Gris finally threatens to go upstairs, wash her face, and put on her overalls if they don’t cut it out.

Amalia calls Antonio and tells him his mother went out in that dress to have a night out. Tony is happy.

At the restaurant Simón at first doesn’t recognize Gris. She immediately moves toward a wall to inspect how her renovations are holding up! Gabriel continues to behave like a bumpkin, looking around and saying the place isn’t too bad. Simón brings a bottle of good champagne. Vanessa calls Patti to tell her about Gris being there. Patti immediately calls her mother to try to convince her to come home so they can have some “girl talk”, but Gris smells a rat and heads for the restaurant.

Diosa has brought Gigante, dressed in t-shirt and jeans to the restaurant. Reinaldo tells Vanessa that Diosa and her husband are regulars.

Teresa Cristina shows up, causing Gris to choke on something. TC beats her on the back about the choking and almost shoves her face into the table. She starts in right away insulting Gris. When Rei tries to get her to sit down, she says she doesn’t sit at table with just anyone. She recognizes Gabriel as the voice of the fake male handyman, and starts to go off about a conspiracy.

Gris has had enough. She slams her hand on the table and asks when TC is going to stop being unjust with her. TC keeps right on going. She says that Gris’ dress is cheap and in poor taste. Reinaldo tries to shut her up, and finally tells her he’ll call security to put her out if she doesn’t stop. She puts her foot in her mouth again with the “my restaurant” phrase.

Griselda says she didn’t come to this place to be humiliated. She moves toward TC, who backs up, surprised that someone is right in her face. Gris tells her she thinks she’s better than everyone else, elegant, and sophisticated. But, she says, you’re a vain, insecure hysteric. She tells TC that she’s a ricachona who has nothing better to do in life than her hair and nails. The only thing she knows how to do well is insult people. When TC tries to speak, Gris tells her to shut up for once in her life, pretend she has some manners, and listen with her mouth shut!

Gris comes out with a very down-home dicho al que agacha mucho se le ven las nalgas This translates, I think, as for those who stoop low, you can see their rear ends. Doesn’t work quite so well in English. She tells Reinaldo that, for the last time, he should forget that she exists. He should not bother with an apology because she’s not really affected by the actions of a poor devil like his wife. She says she pities TC and stalks out.

Paloma brings Tony some tea. She tells him she knows he still loves Patti. She also advises him to search for the right, sincere words to approach his mother.

TC, living as always in her own world, wants to sit down for dinner, happy that Griselda is gone. Reinaldo looks at her and tells her to not even think about it. He says he knows that the restaurant is hers, but if she sits down in that chair, he’s going to leave. He’s absolutely furious. He tells her that this time he isn’t going to pat her on the head and treat her like the spoiled child she thinks she is. Either she leaves – or he leaves. When she doesn’t move fast enough, he tells her she can have her restaurant and is prepared to go. She quickly retrenches and tries to pretend all is well. She even tries the kissy, kissy thing, which does not go over well.

After she goes, Vanessa comes up to try to stick her oar in with some comforting words, but he doesn’t even speak to her. Vanessa calls Patti with the news.

MARIDO EN ALQUILAR – LUNES –Part 2

After some frenzied chopping of vegetables, Reinaldo agrees he’s in no state to cook. He has Fred take over the kitchen and leaves.

Gabe takes Griselda to a nice looking pizza place, where they are on the terrace. Gris has no appetite. Gabe has about as much instinct about when to make a move as TC and suggests that Gris could come spend the night at his house! She accuses him of trying to take advantage of what happened. He declares his love – again – to no avail.

Face washed clean and in jeans and a t-shirt, Gris and Amalia talk. Amalia tries to convince her to try to make it work with Gabriel. Gris: “Do you think I enjoy refusing him all the time? The truth is I’m afraid of love.”

Quique is in bed with Clara and calls her Bárbara en plena acción and is thrown out on his ear. She even throws a bucket of cold water on him.

TC has a flashback of Tía Iris telling her she can’t escape from the truth. She takes a pill and then tries calling Reinaldo, who does not pick up.

Ro is trying to relax on the sofa when the massively annoying Marcela tries to chat him up. He starts to tell her the chisme about TC’s behavior at the restaurant, but she only laughs and says it’s already on the internet – that Teresa Cristina behaved without any class and that the new millionaire confronted her.

Esther tries again to talk to Juan Pablo. She tells him she loves him very much, but her instinct to have a child is stronger than this. He says he can’t bear that she’s going to leave him to take care of a child that is neither his nor hers. When she tells him she won’t give up her dream, he tells her he’s going to give up everything – including the business.

JP comes to talk with Reinaldo. When Ro tells him Rei isn’t home yet, JP says he’ll wait. But the spider Marcela creeps down the stairs in her negligee and starts moving on him. He falls right in the trap (web?) and she drags him off to her bedroom to “talk”.

We see where everyone is at this moment. TC is out cold. Gris can’t sleep, Quique can’t sleep, and Barbie can’t sleep and is looking at pictures of herself with Quiquito as a baby on her laptop while Max sleeps.

JP tells Marcela about the donated egg and sperm. She pretends to be outraged. He says that the baby will be the center of Esther’s attention. She tells him that his wife his changing him for another. She goes in for the kill, quickly seducing the schmuck.

While Quique and Amalia talk about their being rich enough to hire someone to work, Gris comes down in her overalls, ready for a day’s work.

It’s morning in Teresa Cristina’s bedroom. She wakes up. Reinaldo sits in a chair across the room looking grim. She burbles that he’s come to wake her up to say that he loves her. He approaches the bed and tells her, very seriously, that the best thing would be for them to separate. Yowza!

Thanks novelera, don1t have time to read it properly, I'll get back with comments later on.

MARIDO

thks for the recap novelera!

I did like Gris' look, it looked natural and to her taste. & I couldn't help but find that first scene funny. They looked like 2 dogs begging for a treat, haha. I kept thinking 'down boys!'

Even though JP and Ester scenes are depressing, I did like the last conversation/argument scene they did. It seemed real (as much as a tn can be), and think that the actors work well together. But ughhhh, he finally cheated. It seemed inevitable that it would happen with marcela, but still stinks. Really don't like her.

Did anyone else think that Antonio actually seemed like a sweet non-snobbing person when he was talking to paloma? He should have more conversations with her.

Also, I was surprised that Rei told TC he wanted to separate, didn't think that it would happen so soon, but don't think it's going to stick yet.

MARIDO:

Thanks so much Novelera. Wow! Two long term marriages hit the skids last night. I was so disappointed in JP, but I too thought that last conversation he and Ester had seemed really “real”. I hate what the writers have done to this marriage. I am hoping that after the major crash and burn this baby and his affair will cause, they will somehow work their way back to each other, and be better than ever. I can’t believe he is willing to walk away from the business.

And I really hope Rei’s determination to separate from TC sticks. I think it just might, because it wasn’t a rash decision. He obviously spent all night walking and thinking about it. The question is, will he walk away from the restaurant too? It might be TC’s money that backed it, but HE’S the one who built that business, made it successful, and keeps it going.

Could not believe Gabe propositioned Gris like that! He would have deserved it if she had bashed a glass over his head for being so forward. Give it up dude! She did look really lovely, and we know Sonia Smith can look even more gorgeous.

MARIDO:

Great recap, Novelera. Thank you!

So apparently Diosa is a little older than the boys, Rei also remarked that Diosa's ex-husband is way older than she, which prompted Vanessa to point out that she likes older guys, too (yes, we know). Diosa introduced Gigante as her nephew, since his t-shirt made him look younger.

I don't know what I think about Esther and JP. I don't think a couple should have a child unless both parties agree. But she says it's just an unstoppable biological, irrational need at this point. Since neither is willing to compromise, it could cause them to split even though they love each other. But I don't like JP's falling into Marcela's trap one bit.

I agree with jlk that Tony seems to be acting a little more responsible, and that Rei probably won't be able to break up with TC yet.

SANTA DIABLA:

I liked the confrontation between Lisette and Mara. Both want to be the one to give Art a child!

It was sad to see Vicky get all dressed up, only to be left waiting, as Ivan had to go with Carlos to the whorehouse (but fortunately didn't have to do anything with Transito.

And that mob guy aiming for Daniela, but the bullet hitting Lucy!

Gaspar enlisting Vicente for some plan against George, but we know Vicente and Fran are an item (Gaspar may have suspicions about this, too).

It isn't easy for Samanda to escape her new chauffeur Ricardo, but she does it, with Mom's help.

Could Ines BE any more brazen? I did like her underwear, though.

Looks as if Sam may be pregnant, and Santi seems just about to find out everything!

MARIDO EN ALQUILER

Felt sorry for Clara. I thought Kike was doing a good job getting over Barbara until now. I hope he and Clara end up together.(Some people think that Gabe would end up with her but i thought he would end up with Celeste. I would think Manuel has to pay for his actions)

I lold when Gigante clapped his hands!

SANTA DIABLA

For a second i thought Ivan would end up getting raped but luckily Transito stopped. Still surprised no one kicks George out seeing as nobody seems to like him.

MARIDO

Wow! Looks like I missed an eventful episode! Thanks so much, Novelera, for your great recap. Sounds like TC made a total @ss of herself and upset everyone at the restaurant.

So there was no kidnapping (of anyone). That's good, especially for Kikito, but I think we still have a way to go with this tn and there are a lot of people who want Gris' money.

JP and Marcela slept together at TC and Rei's house? Dis-gusting! I am so disappointed in the way the JP-Esther relationship is going, and adding that snake Marcela to the mix could be the death of that marriage.

After so many years of tolerating and enabling TC's behavior, Rei's telling her he wants a separation now seems a little precipitous. He'll probably soften his stance by the end of the week.

Diosa is married? And she and her husband are regulars at Gourmet Palmer. But she's living in a boarding house. I'll bet there's an interesting story there.

SANTA DIABLA, Monday (epi 14)

(thanks Hombre, and some other stuff)

now that we know Humberto is on to Santa, it's fascinating to watch him push her further and further into a corner, cutting off her links to friends and family, (like with the chauffeur), tormenting her about Willy, (like asking if their new child will be a musician), totally working her, is he so full of himself that he's made a game of squashing these little people, or is their a fascination/obsession that he has for her, or both...
he is so hard to read,
(did someone say in LCdaL that the author doesn't let the actors know how things will turn out)

and so Pancho is on night watch, guarding the outdoor fountain,
always vigilant for the trinket snatcher,
and drinking coffee with Lucy,
as the traveling mafia gambler hides in the bushes,
and Daniela, a captive in her home, arranges to meet her connection outside,

Santiago stops by Paula's, Santa is not here,
but I thought I could play some music for willy, he seems to like it,
Paula is thrilled and goes to fetch him,
Santi sees the legal file on Willy laying open where Paula was reading it,
and makes the connection to the grave that Santa was visiting,
(this scene was chopped, did willy confirm to Santi that Willy was his father)
Paula shows him the door, no music tonight,

Ivan and Victoria make a date for dinner,
they will meet out on the street , but Carlos whisks Ivan away to the house of blue lights,
for an unforgettable night,
Transito picks up on Ivan's reluctance, and agrees to cover for him,
(did she also make the connection that Victoria, who Carlos is using Ivan as her buddy to protect, is the girl)
Victoria is stood up and feels stupid,
the next morning Carlos tells Victoria about the wonderful night Ivan had,
Ivan pleadingly is silently shaking his head, no,
Victoria is crushed,

Mara, alone in Victoria's house, scary that Carlos might find her there, but he is out,
meets Lisette coming home, who teases Victoria out on the street looking so nice,
and they draw the lines,
I'm sure Arturo will like the attention,
like the puppy he once had,

Caso Cano, a shot rings out,
Daniela is missed, but Lucy drops,
(without any police cars), the traveling mafia guy gets away,
and George is afraid to go look,

Santi, for some reason, agrees to go to Ines' party,
she still wonders where she has seen his face before,

Gaspar tells Vicente that George tried to kill him,
and wants to teach him a lesson he won't forget,
Vicente casually says, I'll take care of it,

George finds his way to Gaspar's study, and his check book, takes one,
Francisca comes in, is suspicious,

Santi escapes her chauffeur, with the car,
gets a pregnancy test and rushes to Paula's bathroom,
Santi shows up,
did Paula say willy was at school ???
does Santa look stunned, holding the test results?

SANTA

Bert is evil, which is terrible because he's so charming. At this point I believe he knows Begona is Santa Amanda's mother, who Paula is and where Wee Willy is living. His taunting SA about Willy and having kids was deliberately cruel. He may not have guessed that SA is pg yet, but, if he hasn't, Fran will clue him in pretty quick.

Stalkiago is pretty awful too. Right now I don't like him very much. He's everywhere SA and Paula are, demanding answers and making a pest of himself, but he lets trampy Ines climb all over him and can't tell her to stay away from him.

I'm sure G-Cano suspects Fran and Vicente have a thing going.

George cannot expect to get away with stealing checks from G-Cano. Maybe he'll blame the theft on the "burglar".

SA got away from "Ricardo" once. Bet that doesn't happen again soon. But, re: "Ricardo", sooner or later Paula should be getting photos of the 3 guys who killed Willy, and "Ricardo's" cover will be exposed.

Well, the Embarazada race is on. Horti will have a cow and change her will when she finds out Art is still seeing Mara and Mara may get pregnant.

Beth

SANTA

Thanks, Deb. I enjoyed your recap.

Mara is nuts. She even said once that she had no desire to have a child. But idiot Arturo is so under his mother's thumb that he cooks up a fake marriage to give the awful witch a white grandchild. Mara should just run the other way (but not toward Carlos). Instead she thinks getting pregnant will fix every thing. There's plenty of sad divorced women raising a child without much help who could let her know how well that will work out.

The behavior in this novela is just so completely unrealistic that I find my jaw dropping on a regular basis. Iván, who behaves in a quite adult manner for an 18 year old (probably because he's been the only adult around considering his mother) allows himself to be bullied into visiting a whorehouse and leaving Victoria all dressed up with nowhere to go. Completely unbelievable.

Beth, ITA about Santiago. His relentless pursuit of his brother's wife doesn't work for me. I mean to say the part about showing up over and over at the house where Paula and Little Willy live. The child did say: when asked if Willy Delgado was his father.

Paula's obsessive focus on the revenge doesn't permit her to let Santiago play for the child, even though it does her nephew a lot of good to be around a musician.

SANTA

Novelera - I actually fear for Mara's life. Horti has shown a very deadly attitude when it comes to Mara and racial issues (remember the puppy), and I can see her hiring someone to kill Mara. Of course, with Carlos skulking around, that would be hard to pull off.

Beth

Carlos has some hold over Iván, Iván didn't want to go with him, but Carlos said, it's an order. Could be because Carlos is a cop.
Iván seems like a good guy, I hope he can bring Carlos down.

Humberto is just cruel.

DYO lunes

Yay Primiciatv! They had their Monday episodes up the same day, so I was able to watch DYO asap! Couldn’t get to the recap till today though, so gonna be a bit spotty.

Here’s what I remember (please excuse the paraphrased conversations):

Isabel is sure that Angel is on the security tape breaking into Tomas’s office. She calls Angel to blame him, he denies it, mom is ticked that Isabel is blaming him but wants her to erase the footage anyway.

Estela is freaking out to Tomas about Karina’s threat to expose her fake disease, and says Karina is demanding her [Estela] to leave the house or she’ll spill the beans. Tomas says “So what are you waiting for?? Do it!” and Estela is devastated that T has shown such little regard for all she’s done for him. Estela screams she’s NOT LEAVING THAT HOUSE!! Then she says if she leaves she’s taking Ignacia with her to care for her “poor sick mom.” [So where does this leave Karina?? Dare I hope she gets bumped off soon??]

Estela seems to have an actual emotion when she goes to Abue for comfort, but AA has no sympathy telling her that weird tingling she’s feeling is called GUILT, and people with souls have it. We also find out in this conversation that AA’s big scandalous secret is that she is an adrenaline junkie who likes to gamble, and after some pretty heavy losses she was desperate enough to participate in some kind of swindle which landed her in jail. OMG, Abue. THIS is your big embarrassment??? I thought you had killed someone.

Marge’s surgery is taking longer than everyone expected, and there is lots of whimpering from Gina and Lupita about this.

Pedro has a bit of a breakdown, and calls Ignacia and she comes to comfort him at the hospital. They declare their love for each other and kiss, and Mireya wheels up at just the right moment to see it. Merrinche of apocalyptic proportions ensues, and after Ignacia flees, Pedro lays it on the line. I’m in love with Ignacia. We’re done. [even though it’s so hard to resist your sexy sexy tantrums like the one you’re throwing right now, blaming me, once again, for putting you in this wheelchair.] Mireya vows to make them both pay. “You’ll never be happy!” she promises. He seems not-so-devastated, and calls Ignacia who is in her car. He tells her he broke it off with Mireya, and she’s open-mouth speechless with joy.

Tomas is hunting for Ruben, and Ruben is nervous.

Barbie the pole dancer gets lured to a fake “casting” where she is pressured to take off her clothes for a photographer, and is very upset (really?? You’re a POLE DANCER, for Pete’s sake). Zafiro comforts her afterward. Don’t understand the relevance of this plotline and couldn’t care less about these characters, as cold as it may sound. Yet, I keep watching these scenes thinking something important is going to happen or be revealed. Grrr.

Seems like Iggy found something out at the beginning of the episode… was it that Tomas was the one blackmailing Ruben? I think Lupita told her.

Don’t remember much about Mariano or Neto… anyone??

DYO

Just when i was getting bored with this show we get a good episode.

Yes, Amy, Iggy found out from Lupita that Tomás was blackmailing Reuben. Just as Iggy suspected.

We found out the identity of the wheelchair man when Tomás addresses him as...."Papá." He looks like he had a massive stroke.

I found out that pole dancing is similar to pilates. Sorry but those scenes with Barbie and Zafiro came off as a PSA.

BTW I saw JM's twin today at work :)

DyO,

thanks Amy
always nice to get your take on things,
on that little pueblo of L.A.

"Estela screams she's NOT LEAVING THAT HOUSE!!"
as she leaves the house, what?
to go see Abue,
is she going to ask Mariano if she can live there too?

I guess Abue didn't have a mother like Angel that got all of evidence erased,

what's with Marge's surgery taking so long,
people are starting to worrying about other things,

I think Neto told Lupita about Ru-ben/Tomas, and she called Ignacia to let her know that Tomas was pressuring Ru-ben to spy on her day and night,
but earlier Tomas did smile his way out of Pedro being conked, which reminds me that other than the insurance accident guy Tomas hires, Estela is the violent one,

didn't Barbie say that afterwards,
the photo perv abused her for the rest of the day,
and that she wouldn't go to the police,

who thinks it might be Tomas' dad that sneaks off to beat on the girls,
it's not like people in wheel chairs never fake it,
nah,
but will we also see Tomas in a wheel chair next to his dad by the end of the story,

I don't think Mireya is taking the break up very well, after her Merrinche of "look what you did to me" did Pedro very humbly say that he is so sorry, but he can't change what happened, like he can't pick who he loves, (I had to duck just in case something would come flying my way)

DyO

Tks for the recap amy!

As far as break-ups go, Pedro seemed like he did a good job. He was clear on how he felt and stood his ground. Now he needs to spread the news around so it becomes more concrete. My mean side cannot wait to see marge's face when he tells her and why he did it.

Deb, I wonder too if Tomas' dad is faking it and going to the stripclub or something. It just seemed like a big reveal with the camera shots and music for it just to be an unresponsive guy in a wheelchair.

Sue, you are so lucky! That would have totally made my day :)

jlk

DyO

Amy, Thanks so much for your recap. "Merrinche of apocalyptic proportions ensues" - what a great visual! I loved it.

DyO is getting better as the plot picks up. I wonder if the cards AA and Marge played back in the day had anything to do with AA's gambling problem and Marge knows AA's history.

Nomas is truly pathetic, still trying to connect with his abusive father. Do we know what happened to or where his mother is?

I'm looking forward to Marge's shock when she wakes up alive after surgery.

Beth

DyO
Thanks AnotherAmy for the recap, I'm glad you are still able to carry on with DyO amidst all your other obligations.
As for me, I am still rubbing my hands with glee 'cause Pedro finally broke up with Mireya.
Not sure where the strip club plotline is going; obviously somebody we know and love will end up forced to work there. (Yawn).
J in Oregon

DYO

Thanks, Sue! How could I forget about the revealing of Tomas's papá?? And I had the same exact thought about the Barb/Zaf conversation being very PSA-like.

OMG, is your workplace hiring??? I could use a JM lookalike at work...

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – Part 1

We resume with the very interesting scene in the Palmer-Ibarra bedroom. Reinaldo asks Teresa Cristina if she heard what he said. He wants to separate from her. She bounds out of bed saying she has so many things to do, trying to pretend he never said it.

Amalia and Quique are amazed that Griselda is dressed in overalls and ready to go to work with $50 million socked away in the bank. Q reminds her of how many years she played and played, dreaming of winning the lottery. Well she won! Amalia tells her it doesn’t mean her life will turn to bad things. Q tells her she won’t have to worry about bills any more. They finally convince her. She sits back down and says: “She’s not Carrasco, Marido en Alquiler but Carrasco, La Millionaria!” She tells them she’s just going to take Quiquito to school and then come back to think about the rest of her life.

Reinaldo follows TC into her enormous closet, still asking if she heard him. He tells her he can no longer put up with the way she behaves, as if she’s superior to everyone for having been born in a rich family. He says he can’t bear the way she mistreats others. He can’t stand the way she humiliates him in front of everyone, and believes he’s always going to give into her every whim. This is as far as he goes. He says he’s going to leave her. While this is going on, she brushes her hair robotically, seemingly unable to process what he says.

Griselda talks to the absent (but we don’t think for too much longer) José saying the $50 million is hers, and it was a good thing he decided to rest over there at the bottom of the sea with the fish.

TC’s next move is to say that Rei has been working too hard and doesn’t know what he’s saying. She says she’s going to ignore it. When he persists, she says she knew Griselda would wreck her life and she starts shrieking.

JP, without opening his eyes, embraces who he thinks is his wife. And gets up with a start when he realizes he’s spent the night with Marcela. He berates himself for what he did and says it can’t happen again. On his way out he’s spied by Ro who says: “¡Que chismesazo!”

Reinaldo tells her to cut out the obsession with Gris. Then TC becomes completely unglued saying that Gris is after her. Rei tells her she needs urgent therapy. She bristles, saying she’s not crazy. Rei says he’s not so sure; and, if necessary, after 20 years with her, he’d be the first to testify about her craziness. He says he thought she looked down on Gris, but now he thinks she fears her. Wild eyed, she tells him that, when she looks in her mirror, Griselda is in the background, laughing at her. She says that one of them has to disappear in order for the other to keep on living. Reinaldo tells her that what she just said worries him very much.

Bárbara knocks at the door of Griselda’s house, then flounces in flipping her hair around. She says she wants to see her son. Griselda asks if she’s joking. Then she says she’s an unnatural mother who left without even saying goodbye. Barbie says she has her rights and that Gris should be careful or she might just take Quiquito. Gris: “Over my dead body!” Gris grabs her and throws her right out. She tells Babs that Quiquito knows very well that his mother left him to be with another man. Gris also tells her to ask a judge what he thinks of the way she behaved. Back in the car, Barbie (calculating now) tells Max it went just as she expected.

Gris goes to Tacos Bar to tell Quique who comes completely unglued about Barbie’s visit.

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – Part 2

Juan Pablo comes to the office to see Esther. She tells him he left her in the middle of an argument and spent the night outside the home. He looks her right in the eye and tells her he spent the night with another woman. [OK, those of you who still stick up for JP had better have some good reasons in the comments because, after the following conversation, I’m ready for him to be sentenced to a life with Marcela.]

Esther asks what he’s talking about. What woman did he spend the night with? He says it doesn’t matter! [¿Que?] She asks if he paid for it. He gets on his high horse and says that the important thing is the two of them. He says they were a faithful couple. She replies she still is faithful. He responds that she’s going to betray him with another (using the masculine). She says she’s going to receive a fertilized egg, fertilized with an unknown man’s semen. He says he’s not talking about the man who donates the semen, but the child.

Esther is aghast. In what far reach of his imagination could he compare a baby with the woman he spent the night with. He replies that the woman means nothing and would not change their relationship, but the baby will separate her from him. He calls the baby an intruder. He says he’ll never forgive her for choosing “another man” when he stops being the most important man in her life. He then snarls at her that she can take the meeting with the Spaniards that just arrived.

Rafa has another scheme for Leo. This time he’s not taking the motorcycle to a junkyard to swap out parts. This time he’s going to agree to a pretend assault in which the cycle will be stolen! And, by the way, he needs to end up with a few scratches to make the story look good. This is exactly what happens. [I am SO looking forward to Amalia finding out about this dirtbag!]

Gris talks with Celeste about Barbie’s visit. And why she ever pays the slightest attention to Celeste, who appears to have no sense at all, baffles me. Celeste, of course, says maybe Barbie is sincere.

TC comes to the restaurant to see Reinaldo. She says she’s thought for hours about what he said, and that he said hurtful things to her. She babbles on that she realizes she’s been impatient [!] but she’s willing to do anything to save her marriage. She says she went to see her lawyer, and hands Rei a document giving him ownership of Gourmet Palmer. She coos that they are partners in everything. She lays it on thick, saying that Gourmet Palmer is what it is because of his hard work. He refuses to sign the paperwork, telling her the restaurant is hers. She starts to whine and cry, saying this paperwork is the proof of what’s she’s willing to do to save their marriage. He tells her she has to change her attitude toward others.

Gris has come to the hotel to see Barbie. This kind of makes Barbie nervous. She hadn’t expected it. But she tells Max she’s going to make her wait. They go around to the back of the hotel. Barbie tells Gris that now she can enjoy luxury hotels like this since she’s rich. Gris says this is exactly the point, isn’t it? She says that now she’s a millionaire, Barbie suddenly appears asking for her rights as a mother. Gris says that all these years she didn’t even make a phone call to see how Quiquito was. Barbie says they were in Dubai, a long way off. Gris scoffs, asking her if they don’t have phones in Dubai. Gris finally gets to the point. “How much? She tells her not to play dumb. How much does she want to disappear?

Earlier on Amalia told Quiquito that her mother was going to the hotel, and Quique shows up, kind of spoiling the negotiation, by telling his mother she should have consulted him first before she came to the hotel. Gah! I’ve liked this actor in other roles, but his bull in a china shop routine is getting on my last nerve.

MARIDO:

Thanks Novelera. Darn it! It looks like Rei is weakening. He must know that TC is NEVER going to change. And the stuff she said about Gris being on the other side of the mirror, and one of them must go...that's just scary. Gris will be in danger the day that TC gets assurance that Rei has feelings for her.

JP and Ester is just painful.

I couldn't tell if this was Barbie's plan all along-- to manipulate Gris into bribing her to go away. Or if she does intend to try to get child/ex-spousal support through the courts.

MARIDO

Thanks, Novelera, for your very quick, late night recap. There was a lot of very involved dialogue, and you got it all.

Rei finally took TC's rantings seriously, but he probably doesn't realize how dangerous she could be. (TC "says that one of them has to disappear in order for the other to keep on living. Reinaldo tells her that what she just said worries him very much.") At this point I think TC is coming apart at the seams, and she is capable of anything.

Gris is great! She figured out why Barbie is suddenly showing up looking for her hijo and threw her a curve ball. I loved how she just got right to "How much?"

Kave Man showing up at the hotel at the same time Max decides to appear is not going to help the ladies' negotiations. And with the mafioso (and possibly Marcela who shows up everywhere) in the area, things could easily explode.

It's probably better that JP told Esther he spent the night with another woman so she won't be blind-sided when Marcela or someone else tells her. I had a had time with his twisted logic about Esther choosing another man and his not being the most important man in her life. What a narcissist.

Novelera, I'm with you re Rafa. Amalia is going to be heart broken when the jerk ends up in jail.

SANTA DIABLA, Martes, Part 1

Previously I thought the town of Marrero was so small, it was like a Monopoly Board. There were so many people running into each other last night, let’s make that a postage stamp.

Yes, she’s pregnant! Samanda (Sam) pops out of the bathroom, holding the test kit, just as Santi comes in the front door. Whoops! Paula kicks Santi out. She then reams SAM out, telling her there’s no choice, you’ll just have to do away with it (abort), I’ll help you. Well, we know telenovela heroines NEVER want to do THAT, so Sam yells at Paula, butt out! She walks out in tears, and guess what? Santi never left. He’s parked outside in his truck. She gets in, he says where to? As far away as possible, she replies. They later stop and talk. He wants to know about Willy Delgado. He cares about her, wants to help. What’s the truth? She says I married Bert for money, are you satisfied? No, he says, if that were true, you wouldn’t be upset about being pregnant with his child. Tell me the real reason. She gives the usual silence.

She’s dressed in a sort of sack like dress, as if you’d get baptized in it. And sure enough, she wades into the water. So does he. She smiles. They splash. What fun! She still hasn’t told him nada, but they’re BONDING, and she’s been cleansed in her baptismal dress.

Paula calls Begoña, Santa’s pregnant. Begoña just about faints, observed by Francisca, and begs the day off, her “daughter” just made the worst decision of her life. Fran never knew about Begoña’s family. And she still doesn’t.

George had swiped a check from Gaspar, has practiced forging the signature, signs. He goes to either a bank or a check cashing place, presents it nervously. After some tense moments, and a police officer who also happens to be there, the clerk cashes the check, saying we just had a server problem, that was the delay. Beanie time, if this was a bank, they’d make him deposit it, even with a check cashing service, the large amount would raise red flags, wouldn’t it?

Paula and Begoña are happy that no one else knows about the pregnancy yet. Wrong! Lucy guessed it the other day, before she was shot. When Pancho visits her in the hospital, she tells Pancho that Sam is pregnant. She also asks Pancho to give her a ring, she’s tired of being a maid, wants to HAVE a maid! He doesn’t bite. But he later tells Inés that Sam’s pregnant, and Inés, being super happy since now she’ll have Santiago, exuberantly tells Bert. All this in about 1 hour. So much for secrecy! Bert has more visitors. Hortensia tells him not to do business with Mara, since we shouldn’t “mix” with “them”. I think Lisette is there too, but Bert kicks them all out, wants to talk to Ricardo, who sheepishly admits that Sam gave him the slip. Bert is just about to fire Ric, although Ric overhears Inés say Sam’s probably with Santiago, and when he tells that to Bert, his job is safe for at least a day, if he can locate Santi and Sam.

SANTA DIABLA, Part 2

Iván tells Vicky he was NOT unfaithful, Carlos made him go to the whorehouse, but nothing happened. So they go for a walk, and happen to run into Trásito, the madam. Iván happily greets her, even though she’s trying to shy away, and is just about to introduce her to Vicky, when CARLOS shows up, too! See what I mean about small world? Carlos tells Tránsito to beat it, and tells Vicky not to associate with that prostitute. Iván’s not happy about this, especially when Carlos tells him we men should be two-faced, that’s the way of the world.

At the bookstore, Mara surprises Art with a striptease, and they start to do the nasty in the back room. But of course, Hortensia and Lisette happen to show up. Lisette catches Mara and Art, and tells them never to see each other again, or the wedding would be off, Horti could even have a heart attack. Mara says no way, but Art’s waffling. Horti didn’t find out because the pastor shows up to help plan the wedding.

Santiago has brought Sam back to the mansion, they’re both smiling, her hair is a little wet, but here’s Bert, and he PUNCHES Santi! I guess Bert’s plans aren’t going as smoothly as he thought!

Marido,

thanks novelera!

when Reinaldo claimed that TC was obsessed with Griselda,
didn't she explain it as a prescience,
it's uncanny how crazy people can sometimes see things we can't, but isn't it true, that Reinaldo will eventually hook up with Griselda, and TC can sense this, whoa, this was a completely different way of looking at this for me,

and it's interesting how much TC depends on Reinaldo to hold together what little sanity that she has,
and she knows it,

on JP and Ester, hmm, there is a moral problem here, etc., but what I see is that they have come on something in their relationship that they disagree on, and Ester has made a decision and struck off on her own, maybe thinking that JP will eventually follow like he probably always has, and it's not like he said no, it's just that he was having problems with this, and... bang,
when they quit talking, everything just blew up,
what a difference Reinaldo's advice would have been compared to Marcelas,

and the Mafia guy, floating around the only hotel, now has TC's place located, it's good tia Iris is living at the posada, and who is this guy that tags along, do they...

ah yes Max, from champion fighter, to the guy in the back seat, with no future,

Kave Man, great one Beth!

MARIDO:

Deb- I thought that too when TC said that, because we know it's true. Gris WILL take/steal her place in Rei's heart and life, eventually. She can feel it. Unfortunately, in addition to having really good intuition, TC is CRAZY.

You are absolutely right that it's Rei who holds her together. This is not fair on Rei at all. This shouldn't be the role of a spouse. It must be so exhausting. The day he really does leave her, she will become unhinged, and she will become dangerous. I think most of her family and friends/employees know this.

MARIDO:

Thanks, Novelera, another excellent recap. I totally agree that Celeste has just about the worst advice ever. Gris explained it, saying you have a heart of gold, but thinking that Barbie has changed? Please.

Kave Man needs to go to anger management classes.

It's a wonder Gabe's place can stay in business, as every day, either he leaves to see Gris, Kave Man leaves, or Clara leaves for Leonardo's latest problem.

SANTA

Thanks, Hombre, great recap. And good call on Marrero as Mayberry where everyone in town has to see everyone else at least daily. The bookstore and law office are like anthills. I just loved Paula's WTF look when Ines announced Sam's pregnancy to Bert.

I think you're right, Hombre. Sam won't have an abortion, but she may end up having a miscarriage. I doubt she'll carry the devil's spawn to term.

Carlos is not only a bad guy, he's one sick puppy. Thank God he can't reproduce!

Mara's working so hard to become pregnant. That settee looked downright uncomfortable.

Looks like Bert has a little sibling rivalry thing going with Stalkiago - one of those "don't touch my stuff, don't touch my wife" things. He acted pretty jealous when he found out Sam was with Santi.

Santa,

thanks Hombre!

one thing that I've noticed about this writers style is that most people don't have cars, they just leave one place and arrive at another, but the people who do, like Amanda, well she just leaves it someplace and starts riding with others, (good way to get rid of the chauffeur)

it was a hoot at Humberto's office, since there was no secretary, Paula is busy at home with Santi/Santa, and so everyone just walks in to see Humberto unannounced, 'Lisette (wants money for the wedding), 'Hortensia', (why are you here Lisette, just inviting the father of Ivan), 'Carlos (came about the shooting but mentions he saw Mara and Arturo alone together the night of the Cafe opening), and 'Ricardo', (who must have lost his phone and walked), then 'Paula' shows up for work,
and then 'Ines', who announces to the world that Santa is pregnant,
(and didn't Humberto look surprised, I don't think this is part of his plan),
and the announcement just about knocks Paula over,
and as she then mumbles about Santa being with Santi, Ricardo's ears start growing in size,
and he tells Humberto,

I love it when Humberto gets rattled,

DYO martes, part 1/2

Pedro repeats that he has broken it off with Mireya, and Ignacia is speechless. He says they will meet later because now he has to go check on Mama.

Mamacita Santa’s surgery was a huge success, all cancer has been removed from her body. The family celebrates.

Isabel is torn between her loyalty (y mas?) to JM and saving her brother from suspicion. She flashes back to all of JM’s compliments, and then to Mamá trying to guilt her into erasing the security recordings (no contest there, I’d choose JM every time). She decides she can’t betray JM but can’t handle the pressure, so she will resign.

Hurricane Merrinche is busy at home, destroying anything not nailed down.

Tomas isn’t interested in finding out who broke into his office (since he seemingly already knows) and definitely does not want the police involved. JM insists that this is the second break-in, and they need the police because it could be dangerous, but Tomas refuses. JM runs into Isabel on the way out, who is packing a box with her things, but she finds out that Tomas refuses to see the tapes, so crisis averted.

Oleg comes home to check on Mireya and finds the destruction. “Some things fell,” she explains, and then tells him to stop asking so many questions and to butt out of her life, although she does stop to ask how Marge is doing and is assured the operation was a success. Papá is confused and worried.

In the courtyard, Gina invites Mariano to come in with her, and Lupita and Ruben share a tender commiserating moment regarding moms with cancer. Ruben leans in to kiss Lu when Neto comes up. Ruben demands to know why Neto threw him under the bus.

Abue is alone in the apartment and takes advantage of the moment to make a mysterious phone call. She’ll be meeting someone that evening (another new character? Please, God, make it stop!). And she tells him/her “Don’t call me, I’ll call you.”

Neto swears he didn’t tell Ignacia about Tomas’s blackmail, but Ruben doesn’t believe him and says if anything happens to him [Ruben] or his sister, Neto will be responsible. Lupita speaks up… “Fui yo!! I’m the one who told Ignacia!”

Ignacia arrives at Casa Villano and breaks the news to Estela that she’s going to divorce Tomas. She doesn’t love him anymore and she can’t be around him. Estela has a berrinchela (meh, doesn’t quite work as well as “Merrinche”) grabbing Iggy, shaking her, and wailing in her face. “you can’t do this!” Ignacia says she’s not asking for permission, the decision is made. Estela slaps her, and Iggy runs out.

Ruben is ticked… “How could you tell? You know what Tomas is capable of… the last time you encountered him you wound up in the hospital!” Lupita insists that she felt Iggy should know what kind of husband she has, but Ruben tells her to say out of things that don’t involve her. He leaves.

Pedro is distracted at home, and Gina/Mariano try to figure out why but Pedro isn’t talking.

Angel cases the supply warehouse. “This won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible.”

Karina goes to see Tomas at the office, and threatens him with telling Ignacia about tumor-gate if he doesn’t get Estela out of his house ASAP. Someone needs to remind her that the spider is NOT at the top of the food chain.

ELmilio takes Gema to an apartment (or house, or something), saying that she deserves a new beginning with a place to live that she can make her own. They do the deed.

DYO martes, part 2/2

Ruben goes to Casa Villano to see Estela. He hugs her and tells her he didn’t know she was sick, and he’s sorry… he found out it was Tomas that sent Lupita to the hospital, not her. Iggy walks in on this revelation.

AA is on her way out of the depot when Mariano walks in. “Are you going somewhere?” he asks. “of course not!” she responds, turning around to go back upstairs. “I always carry around my purse! It has everything I need in it! I’m going upstairs to rest!”

Pedro leaves Casita Perez to “do some things,” and dinner is ready. Oleg and Neto compete to see who goes to get Mireya for dinner, Neto wins.

Ruben explains to Iggy what happened with Tomas and Lupita, and Ruben tells Estela that Tomas tried to pay Ruben to spy on Ignacia. Enter Tomas.

Mireya doesn’t want to go eat with them. Neto says he doesn’t either if she’s not there. He says, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

Lots of shouting and arguing at Casa Villano among Ruben, Ignacia, and Tomas. Estela feigns a tumor-ache, and the siblings rush to her side. She says the fighting needs to stop, and she needs to rest. Once the sibs have left, Tomas congratulates her on her acting.

Lupita and Oleg go to look for Neto and Mireya, but they are nowhere to be found.

AA makes a break for it again, and again is interrupted by Mariano. He tells her she can go wherever she wants, whenever she wants, but she insists she was just checking to make sure the door was locked. This woman is hilarious.
Olegario is pacing, wondering where Mireya and Neto could be. Especially after the kiss he witnessed at the obra…

Tomas wants to know what Iggy had to tell him that was so important. She’s too tired, she’ll tell him tomorrow. He insists, and she leaves.

Isabel is looking at a picture of Tomas and JM in a trade magazine, and thinking dreamily about always being by JM’s side to support him.

Gema is flashbacking to all the magical moments with EDmilio. Candy comes in to celebrate.

Neto and Mireya have returned, and Oleg demands to know where they were. Mireya refuses to answer his questions, once again telling him to BUTT OUT. “But you and Pedro are engaged! What would he think about this?” “He can think whatever the &%^$ he wants!” she says, and then wheels back out with Neto following behind her.

Ignacia steps out of the Casa for some fresh air. Pedro peeks out from behind a tree. She smiles.

Fin del capitulo.

Note to Olegario… when the buttons on your shirt are pulling like that, it’s time to go a size up.

DyO,

thanks so much Amy!

Ana Layevska (Ignacia) really sells this story for me,
the way she deals with Tomas,
and especially the way she looks at Pedro, no words are ever needed,
great last scene, him hiding by a tree,

and the wedding ring still on her middle finger, pure Ana.

DyO

Thanks, Amy. Loved "tumor-gate" and "tumor ache".

I'm wondering if Emilio's elaborate courting of Gema might be for realz, and the concern about him being El Duro might be a red herring. He's certainly going to a lot of trouble (and expense) to recruit a girl for the strip club.

It MUST be Rubén who trashed Tomás' office. Ángel would not trash an office and leave without stealing something. They haven't explained why Isabel is so sure that the masked person in the video is her brother.

Also, regarding Ángel's plan, I think he mostly has his eye on the copper building materials. Addicts famously strip vacant houses and building sites of copper because it's valuable.

Of course Ignacia wasn't going to tell Tomás about the divorce last night. They want us to tune in tonight!

I think Abue's person on the other end of the phone has something to do with her past gambling addiction, and that she's trying to sneak out, perhaps to gamble with this guy. Or maybe he's her GA sponsor, keeping her on the straight and narrow. That would be better.

DyO

"berrinchela" good one Amy, but sounds like a cold beer to me.
Office trashing, I think Isabel jumped to the conclusion it was her bro because she's just waiting for him to go bad. The trasher had Ruben's height.
So, where did Mireya and Neto go off to? And what, if anything, did they do?
Somehow, until Marge is well out of the hospital I still feel an anvil hovering over her.
Thanks so much Amy, for continuing to post your stellar recaps during this time of transition for you.

SANTA

Yes Marrero seems an absurdly small place, but did I see a "Marrero" license plate on Santiago's white truck? Thought I saw a capital "M."
Thanks Hombre for your excellent recaps. I lost track of who knew about Amanda's pregnancy, needed your scorecard.
Clara

DyO

Amy, your recaps are wonderful! "Tumor-gate" and "tumor ache" are inspired - right up there with "merrinche".

Marge will be positively convinced she's going to die when the doctor tells her the surgery was successful and she'll only need a short course of radiation and chemo.

AA was hilarious hustling back and forth from the front door. She should have just told Mariano she was going someplace and left, but of course she's hiding something so she has to act guilty.

I too have been thinking Emilio is putting a lot of time, energy and wooing into his seduction of Gema. He could be the real deal and be honestly smitten by her, but something seems off. And how does this story line fit with the plot? The car wash scenes are just - out there.

I hope Mireyacita isn't going to break our little squirrel's heart in her attempts to get revenge on Pedro and Iggy.

Beth

SANTA

Another thing that's boggles the mind - Santa is a nurse. Birth control? Que?

Beth

Santa
She wasn't planning on having sex. Humberto poured his drugged champagne down her boobs.

SANTA:

This, 'she wasn't,t planning to have sex with the man she married' thing has blown my mind and stopped me from watching, honestly. Unless Santa's other name is Shaherazade and she had 1001 really interesting tales to tell Humberto, Santa should have known she was going to have to have sex with the man she married especially since she told Bert that they would on their wedding night. Plus, as Beth said, she's a nurse and didn't use some form of BC? Beanie exploding!

It boggles the mind that three people, Begoña, Paula and Santa, planning a venganza for two years, didn't account for the fact that if Santa was gonna marry Bert, she'd have to sleep with him and take precautions to avoid pregnancy. The opening scene of this TN featured Santa dressing up in lingerie for her engagement party saying this is war, showing that she'd use her body if necessary to get to the truth about her husband's death. This being caught flat-footed by having sex with Bert and getting preggers by him is stultifying.

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – MIÉRCOLES
Non-Fat Recap

Reinaldo backs off on the separation from Teresa Cristina when she promises to apologize to Griselda

Quique behaves like a complete ass at the hotel, makes a threatening gesture toward Bárbara, and Max intervenes. Q keeps being aggressive, they start a fight, fall in the pool, and Max passes out. Barbie gloats later to Max that she didn’t even have to ask for the money. Max gives her a look like maybe he sees who she is. She tells him she wants 10% of the lottery money.

Gris figures out that the reason Barbie is making her move is that Max is in bad health. She also figures that, for this reason, Barbie will take the money.

Juan Pablo has come off his high horse a bit and realizes he’s stepped in it. He's trying to talk with Esther. Marcela minces into Fina Estampa without an appointment, and Esther figures it out.

Griselda talks to Paloma about José having been a drunk.

TC tells herself that it wouldn’t be the first time she got rid of someone without her pulse even being raised.

Esther confronts JP about Marcela. She tells him she’s going to be pregnant. When the baby is born she’s going to dedicate 24 hours per day to her child. AND, he will never touch her again. She says she never wants to look at his face again. He tries to pursue her, but she’s gone.

Gris tells Celeste and Paloma that she’s been living in this house free all these years. It belongs to one Chino, a friend of José’s. The deal was they’d take care of the house for him. Gris says she might buy a mansion across the street from that cacatúa.

TC tells Ro she’d kill Reinaldo before he could get the divorce finalized. He tries to convince himself later that she’s joking.

The NY Mafioso hires a realtor and discovers which house TC lives in.

Rafa proposes to Amalia and gives her engagement ring.

Juan Pablo cries on Reinaldo’s shoulder at the restaurant. He admits he slept with Marcela as revenge for the in vitro plan. He thinks Esther will never forgive him. Rei asks him if he’s prepared to accept the child, but he doesn’t answer.

Esther has packed and left their house. She shows up to stay with Alba Perkins, having called first. She meets Beatriz, not knowing about her being the egg donor.

SANTA

I think in one of the early episodes before the wedding Santa and Paula or Begona had a brief conversation about how Santa was going to have to have sex with Bert sooner or later. So the venganza girls must have realized that marrying a healthy virile man would involve sex, and yet Santa didn't use BC. I think the writers are giving us two conflicting versions of Santa - first, as a woman determined to avenge her husband's death and, second, a naive and/or depressed victim.

Beth

MARIDO:

Thanks Novelera. I think you got it all. The only two things I would add is Barbie showing up at Kikito's school when K is there to pick him up; and the mafia guy deciding to rent the house across the street for a few days while he's in Miami for business.

I think we can all guess that's the house Gris will eventually buy.

TC's madness is really growing. She's now declared her intent to kill both Gris and Rei if he leaves her.

Ester living with her fertility doctor and her likely egg donor...bad idea. This just seems like such an emotionally unhealthy situation.

Santa
How long have we been into this marriage? The 1st night, Santa's avoid sex plan didn't work, I assume that's when she got pregnant. The 2nd night, she drugged him. We didn't get past that as far as bedtime is concerned.
I agree, if you are married to a man you hate, wouldn't you take birth control to avoid having his brat. I bet she doesn't go through with the abortion & of course Santiago is right there.

I am really sick of Santiago & I don't know why Santa isn't. I don't see any appeal in Aaron Diaz & his sad teary eyes are just too much.

SANTA DIABLA, Miércoles, Part 1

As Santiago brings Samanda (Sam) home, they are both happy, and almost kiss, until Bert SLUGS Santi. The boys fight, Sam calling for help. George saunters over, of course he does nada. Finally Gaspar and Fran come out and the boys stop. Inside, Bert yells he’s after my wife! As usual, Sam and Santi are both silent (I think that’s why they’re drawn to each other - they have a “silent” attraction :). In another room, Santi admits to his Mom, yes, I’m totally in love with her! Fran is not pleased, but she does love Santi. She thinks the best thing for him is to go far, far away. Yeah, right. Santi says he’s going to “fight for his love”. Okaaay.

George actually has a small moment of bonding with Daniela, where George almost appears human. Later, though, he gathers the money he obtained by cashing Gaspar’s check, and takes it to the mob guy, Marcos. It’s a partial payment, but doesn’t that show he’s trying? Marcos smiles, we’ll take this money, but now your debt is DOUBLED! Hmmm. He adds that if George doesn’t pay, this time, there will be no way to save little Daniela. Uuuyyy! We also have Vicente tell Gaspar he’s prepared something which will really rock George’s world!

Inés is so excited that now she’s got Santiago, now she’s got Santiago! She prepares a nice little party for him in her house, tells Daddy it’s gonna be great. She puts on her party dress. But no one shows up. Vicente says stop your exaggerating, maybe Santi isn’t for you, and please stop crying. She tells him it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry, too if it happened to you!

Bert decides to show how understanding he is (not) by accusing Sam of having SANTI’S baby. Yes, Amanda, he says, you and Santi planned it all along, how dare you! Sam doesn’t know what to say (does she ever?). After she leaves, upset as usual, Bert says to himself, welcome to hell........Santa Martinez!

Earlier, Begoña had visited Sam in her room, and said you really have to get an abortion, there’s no choice. Sam doesn’t want to, a child is a gift from heaven. Begoña puts a piece of paper in her hand, it’s the address of a clinic that’ll take care of the matter, she can go tomorrow. Begoña talks tough, but outside the door, she breaks down, she doesn’t believe in abortions either, but here there’s no choice.

And sure enough, Bert’s mean words about it’s being Santi’s kid have prodded Sam into action. Bert wakes up, Sam’s not there, we see her jump in a car, zoom off, knocking over a trash can. This wakes up Santi, who slept in his truck, and he follows her. Sam goes to an abortion center with the word “choice” very prominently displayed. Santi is waiting outside, what’s she doing? Inside, the nurse tells Sam the doctor is ready, just change into this gown, here’s where it’s going to happen. Sam is very, very conflicted. Will she go through with it?

SANTA DIABLA, Part 2

Santi also has time to console Mara, who thinks she’s being a fool for going after Arturo, when he’s agreed to have a baby with Lisette. And not only that, for trying to get pregnant herself. Santi is basically just there for her (he’s sort of like a guardian angel for lots of people, it seems).

Not only does Bert insult Sam, he then proceeds to call Lisette, and she goes to his office, where THEY have hot sex. Now we know she’s going to get pregnant by Arturo, what if she gets pregnant by Bert?!

Speaking of sex, our sexpot Bárbara goes clothes shopping, sees a hot looking guy, with curly wild hair, well dressed, hovering near the changing rooms. There’s some eye contact, and they both go into the changing rooms for a quick one. She wants more. Big mistake. They go to a hotel, and start stripping. He pulls out a rope, starts tying her to the bed. No, she isn’t into that, and tries to get up. Too late. He HITS her, repeatedly, and rapes her without mercy. He steals all her money, smiles and leaves. The next morning, the cleaning woman discovers Bárbara naked, bloody, and possibly DEAD.

Lucy proceeds to crack me up in her hospital bed. She talks non stop, in her cute naco accent, can’t understand when Pancho doesn’t take the bait and ask her to marry him. He walks out, he’s got other things to do, and Lucy asks the nurse for HER opinion.

And we have a new character! This guy, I think his name is Patricio, played by Roberto Mateso (Tiberio in Mi Corazon Insiste, he’s in lots of stuff), he finds Carlos, says HE’s the guy who donated his kidney to Carlos! Whoa!

SANTA:

Roberto Mateos.

MARIDO:

Great low fat recap, Novelera, it hit the spot!

I thought the mafia guy said he was not sure about buying the house, wait a few days. So in the meantime, Gris could buy it, and could have a conflict with the mafia guy, who also wants it. In Mi Corazon Insiste, Lola also got rich and bought the house right across the street from her rich rival. This doesn't seem like Gris at all. But it makes a good story.

Rafa is so nice with Amalia, but so dishonest in his business.

TC said something to Patti about how even if Antonio has money now, he's still the same low class guy, and stay away from him. This may have the unintended effect of pushing Patti TOWARDS him.

SANTA

Hombre - great recap of a great episode! I loved, "it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry, too if it happened to you!" - one of my favorite songs from the 60's. I was surprised that NO ONE showed up for Ines' party. I'm guessing she irritates a lot more people than just us in the audience.

The “silent” attraction and behavior of Sam and Stalkiago is neither intriguing nor sexy for me. It's worse than annoying.

Bert's accusing Sam of having Santi's baby is masterful. He's keeping her off balance and playing the victim. Did I say he's evil? Cute, but evil.

I'm guessing Sam doesn't go through with the abortion. She'll think it's an innocent baby, and it shouldn't have to pay for the sins of the father.

Hombre, I like your notion of Lisette getting pregnant by Bert. What a wicked twist. The population of Mayberry is about to explode.

Barbara probably isn't dead. Will Bert have "Ricardo" kill her attacker?

Patricio looks like he's doing just fine with only one kidney. Wonder how much he wants.

Beth

Santa,

thanks so much Hombre!
it always amazes me how you not only lay out what happened but you capture the moods as well
good twist on the "silent attraction",

it's my party, and...
didn't Ines say she was inviting all of her friends,
looks like they all showed up,

and as Gaspar breaks up the fight, Francisca walks straight to Amanda and asks, what did you do,

and as the family congratulates each other on the pregnancy, Santa works her way through the crowd, who told you I was pregnant, (and gets to where Pancho told Ines), but of course she did faint during her wedding and Francisca thought the gold digger might be pregnant then,

Carlos Ponce as Humberto, wow, what an intriguing character, I think his plan is to toy with and squash Santa, but there seems to be this fascination underneath that draws him to her, and now the baby thing, and the always present jealousy he has for his brother mixed in, he with the family, looks happy about her pregnancy, then alone with Santa he rips on her asking if Santiago is the father, did they plan this, then by himself, his expression changes again, and he says "welcome to hell", referring to Santa, and then he calls Lisette for sex, they meet but oops, calls her Amanda, then how his wedding is a farce, what, oh nothing...

didn't someone say abortions were illegal here, that whole setup at the clinic all looked so scary to me, I was really getting Santa's conflictions, there is no turning back from this one,

and the walking chauffeur, behind a tree, listens to Paula and Begoña, but I didn't catch what he overheard, something about Willy's case.

GENERAL

Hello, everybody!

I'm back home, but I haven't had the time to read any of the stuff that happened in the last few days. I hope I get to watch the shows first and then I can get back to commenting.
But my brother and SIL are staying with us for a while, so I'm not sure how long it will be until that happens.

Soon, I hope!

Thanks, Hombre. "It's My Party" was inspired! It also inspired me to look up Lesley Gore. Waning brain cells could not come up with her name.

Yes, Humberto's behavior is intriguing. I'm not sure if his rage about the day Samanda spent with Santi is because he has a bit of a thing for her, almost in spite of himself, or whether he just hates his brother so much.

At the very end Francisca showed up at Victoria's boarding house, with a sweet smile on her face wanting to speak with Ivan. Wonder what THAT'S about. Coming on the heels of the announcement of Samanda's being pregnant, this is definitely odd.

Something about Bárbara being beaten and raped that way raised my feminist hackles. Of course, she's engaged in risky sexual encounters for quite a long time. But were the writers saying: "OK, this is what happens to bad girls?"

Of course, George still has to keep doing sneaky things. But what I was wondering last night is why, knowing that Daniela's in danger, George doesn't just confess to Gaspar, who could probably take the gambling debt out of the petty cash box. Gaspar adores his granddaughter.

I was glad to see Mara show some self-awareness about trying to get pregnant with Arturo's baby being a pretty lame tactic.

Paula just gets more and more high strung and weird. And I don't know if it's poor acting, or what, but Begoña's laser focus on the revenge and cold behavior toward her daughter just seems odd. It's as if she loved her deceased son-in-law more than her living daughter.

Marido,

thanks novelera!
as usual the details you add (that I miss) make the story so much better for me,

I was wondering what it would be like for TC to overcome her difficulties as well as her fate (that Reinaldo and Griselda will hook up), and reclaim her husband, an interesting twist for a novela,
but she definitely has a preference for the dark side,

la casa de al lado, the house next door, hmm,
first with the mafia guy,
but why on earth would Griselda consider living there,
it would only taunt cacatúa TC and break up that family
(but Antonio might like it)

I would think the wisest choice for a lottery winner would be to move to a place far away where no one knows you, take your friends with you even, but Griselda living in that small house where anyone just barges in, that's scary,

and I would think Griselda would be a better target for the mafia guy than Iris.

and why would anyone (Ester) leave home and move in with their fertility doctor, huh?

SANTA

deb, when the "chauffeur" was hiding behind the tree Paula was telling Begona that she would soon be getting more info about the guys that killed Willy in jail, including their pictures.
And I think the chauffeur [Ricardo] is one of those guys.

Could the Barbara events have been orchestrated by Vicente? He said he would rock George's world.
Clara

Santa,

thanks Clara!
I thought it was something like that,
anyway I was thinking Ricardo will now give Humberto the link between Begona and Paula,
something he probably has missed,
the simple solution for Humberto keeps getting more complex,

ooo, interesting about Vicente's plan,
but wait, Gaspar likes his daughter Barbara, doesn't he?

SANTA

Right deb, I guess that doesn't make a lot of sense [that Vicente would be involved in the Barbara attack]. But that boutique lurker did seem like a set-up, tho.

BTW deb, I love your concise, haiku poetic style and also how you are always analyzing!

Humberto does seem to be enjoying himself, too much, eyes twinkling, and Santa seems way over-matched.

MARIDO

In my truncated recap I didn't mention something that impressed me last night.

I thought Juan Soler was absolutely wonderful in the scene at the restaurant with Juan Pablo. He listened to his pain, but didn't let him off the hook for having been unfaithful. He nodded sagely when JP told him about Marcela taking him to her room to "talk", saying "Ah, so it was her." And he went directly to the point asking if he would accept the child Esther so desperately wants.

Every man should have a friend and confidante like Reinaldo Ibarra.

SANTA DIABLA

I agree about Santiago. Nothing interesting about him. Imo hes just as annoying as Gabriel from M.E.A. chasing Amanda and saying he loves her and what not.

But this is still the best mystery novela ive ever seen (Well 2nd :) D.E.E? will always be hard to top)

Santa
Tks so much Hombre, muy divertido.

Really!, said in SNL voice, sex in a dressing rm, bet the security people enjoyed the show.

Humberto is perverse & possessive. He doesn't want anyone messing with his stuff. He is my favorite though. The villain parts are usually the best.
Can't wait to hear the problem between him & Santiago.

Marido
Hot off the press, TV y Novelas Sept.
Sonya Smith's new love is Ricardo Chávez, Gabriel in Marido. Looks like his stalking paid off. They look great together.

MARIDO:

Previously, I didn't see how the JP and Esther situation could be resolved without them breaking up. But now that he's been unfaithful, and she kicked him out, he could decide to accept the baby as part of his atonement and forgiveness. Probably won't be that simple, though!

SANTA

I was shocked to find out that the actress playing Lucy is Mexican. I can never understand a word she says so I figured she must be Colombian. She's a nice comic relief.

And even though Humberto is a horrible bad person, Carlos is getting into it and making him interesting to watch. Anyone around Carlos should maybe be concerned and how good he is as playing a sociopath.

Kelly

Variopinta, Sonya and Ricardo are old news. Did you not see them together in PREMIOS TU MUNDO? They even mentioned their relationship in AL ROJO VIVO. Shame she and Porras divorced though :(

Novelaman
I got my news about Sonya & Ricardo with the Afternoon mail.

DYO miercoles (EEEK this is late! Sorry!), part 1/2

Tomas suggests Estela go apartment shopping, because the only solution for the Karina problem is for Estela to leave or to [gasp] kill Karina.

Marge is not as happy as everyone else that the operation was a success, because she still has to have radiation therapy… part of the routine. Whoever it was that called this one… nailed it! I’m still going to die?? Whimper, whimper, so done with this woman.

Oleg is not happy that Neto took Mireya and disappeared last night… he nearly chokes Neto in the locker room.

Zafiro refuses to take El Duro’s money, and she tells her boss she’s never going to see him [ED] again. In a flashback, we see El Duro take out a whip, and then we see EL-Milio’s face. Yes, they are one and the same.

AA calls mystery man/woman explaining that she couldn’t get out of the apartment last night. She’ll try again tonight.

Ignacia convinces Ruben to forgive Lupita for spilling the beans about Tomas’s blackmail. Karina shows up, with news for both of them about their mother. “Your mother’s a liar,” she says… then Tomas shows up. “This woman is crazy!” he says. “Karina, how could you do this to your best friend, at a time like this?” Karina proceeds to reveal that Tomas was sleeping with her while Iggy was planning her wedding, and that Tomas and Estela have been lying to them all along… then she flees without getting more specific. Iggy holds Tomas back from going after Karina, demanding an explanation.

Mireya’s flashing back to her kiss with Neto, and for a minute seems less than disgusted, but then convinces herself… “No, no, no, quiero a Pedro. I want to be with Pedro and nobody else…”

Lupita runs into Angel and he makes her laugh, offers to listen to her problems. They exchange phone numbers.

Neto wants to know what Mireya feels about him, he hasn’t been able to work or sleep not knowing. She starts crying because Pedro and Iggy are together… she saw them kissing. Neto consoles her, telling her that no one will hurt her like that again while he’s alive. They lean in to kiss again when Pedro walks up. Neto gets confrontational with Pedro and they nearly come to blows when Oleg walks in to break them up.

Tomas denies, denies, denies, but Ignacia doesn’t buy it. She announces that she wants a divorce as soon as possible. Tomas isn’t giving up, he won’t let her go. She yells, “I DON’T LOVE YOU!!” but he’s not swayed… “I will never let you out of this marriage, we were born to be together!” Ignacia responds with “You’re crazy, sick! The more I get to know you, the more you disgust me! WE’RE DONE!” Tomas, well, still won’t accept it. Is he on his knees, crying, begging? Oh, no. He’s just flat out pi$$ed.

Angel’s friend, The Rat, shows up at the obra disguised as an inspector (complete with ID) to inspect the materials warehouse.

Karina shows up at the constructora to see JM. She came to say goodbye because she is leaving and going far, far away. She advises him to stop working with Tomas and get away from him for his own good. She tells him he was the best thing that ever happened to her and she wishes she would have decided to stay with him, but now it’s too late. He says they can start again, but she says no. She leaves JM dazed and confused.

DYO miercoles, part 2/2

Tomas is confiding in catatonic papá that Karina has become a problem and he is losing Ignacia because of her. He remembers papa’s voice calling him a loser, and Tomas swears he’s not a loser. He’ll take care of this problem, and won’t even get his hands dirty.

Oleg finds out that Pedro and Iggy are in love and are going to give it a try. Mireya lays the guilt on thick… again with the accident, and then with the dumping. Pedro says he’s not dumping her for Ignacia (well, you kind of are, Pedro), but things were bad between them even before the accident. M doesn’t hear that part and continues rambling on before wheeling off angrily. Oleg and Neto glare at Pedro.

JM goes to see Iggy at the obra… he wants to know where Karina ran off to.

Estela barges into Casa Villanomayor and tells Estela that Ignacia wants a divorce. He says the only way he can hold on to Ignacia is by using E and her tumor. When Estela asks what they will do about Karina’s boca, Tomas insinuates that they need to make her disappear, and the only person that can do that is Estela. So whip out that hitman directory you have in your purse, E…

Amy, you're a gem. Life happens. Recaps are always appreciated, aunque un poquito tardito. I always read them, even if I can,t watch.

DyO

Amy, thank you! Your recaps are terrific and really help me with the language. You're amazing for doing them.

I'm worried for Gema now - EDmilio has some game going with her, and she's much too naive and trusting to be involved with that thug.

Nomas gets crazier and crazier, and Estela just hops on for the ride!

I'm the one who said Marge would be convinced she's dying when the doctor told her the surgery was successful, and she didn't disappoint!

SANTA DIABLA... Thursday (epi 17)
part 1

(I had a tough time with some of these conversations)

Ivan introduces Francisca to Victoria as his grandmother,
I'm not your grandmother, blah, blah, and never set foot in Casa Cano again,
Victoria throws her out,
Ivan, having a hard time as his emotions are bubbling up,
runs up to his room,

Ricardo walks swiftly past Paula and into Humberto's office,
he's worried that when Paula finds the guys connected to Willy's death,
it will lead back to him,
Humberto, always cool, well then that won't happen,

Santa is trembling as she awaits her abortion,
the doctor leaves for a second,
Willy appears in the room, don't do it,
the doctor returns, all ready to start,
Santa is outta there,

Patricio Vidal introduces himself to Carlos as his kidney donor,
Carlos takes him home,
seems it was a black market deal where Carlos paid for the kidney which Patricio needed to pay off his brother's debts, didn't really get all of this, seems a bit strange,
especially the gleam in his eyes when he meets the pretty Victoria,
Carlos has her fix him up a room

Ines is cleaning up after her non party, Pancho tries to talk some sense into her about Santiago, he has used 3 different names in the past year, he seems clean in the U.S. but they are checking other latin american countries,
Ines rushes to a stack of magazines and starts flipping through them,
she finds what she is looking for in a Musica magazine,

Humberto is standing over secretary Paula with a death stare when she notices him,
but his phone rings,
they are rushing Bárbara to the hospital,

Santa, in a daze is wandering across a busy street when Santiago pulls her from the traffic,
they hug, why he asks,
she tells him Humberto killed Willy,
(and once again she leaves her car and jumps in his truck),

two police officers arrive at Caso Cano to question George about attempted murder,
(as Vicente tells Gaspar about the two actors he hired),
Daniela watches them leave,
they take him to a train yard by gunpoint, bye, bye, George,
as George is pushed to the ground, a gun put to his head, click,
no bullets in the gun, they laugh,
and drive away,
George is thoroughly shaken,

Santiago takes Santa to a quiet walkway over some water, (a Pasion Prohibida setting?)
she tells him the whole story,
(everything, their real names, Willy's story, how all but Gaspar are involved, Humberto thinking the baby is Santi's)
she just wants justice,
revenge he says,
no justice,
(I found this all a bit creepy how Santa is plotting to destroy Santiago's entire family and he's like well, ok)

SANTA DIABLA (epi 17)
part 2

Arturo swings by Mara's, she jumps on him, but wait, you are on the pill, right,
she cools and walks around the desk to go back to work,
he still wants some loving,
she asks about the wedding, in 5 days, she is taken back,
he asks if she would like to be, is it bridesmaid ??
whack, she slaps him hard and leaves,

we see Ricardo go up to a house and ring the door bell,
a guy comes out, happy to see him,
he sticks a gun in the guys chest, shoots him dead, and drags him back into the house,

Lisette is trying on a like 18th century wedding dress Hortensia has picked out for her,
no way, she calls Horti to make new arrangements with the store,

the Cano's are at the hospital checking on Bárbara,
Humberto reports that she is stable,
that she was abused and robbed,
that she checked into a hotel under a falsename with a guy they think did it,

Pancho brings Lucy home from the hospital,
did she expect a welcome home party, she did take a bullet for the family,
there is no one there,

Begona is watching willy, while Paula is off to see one of those guys connected to Willy's death,
the beginning of the end for the Canos, she says to herself,

Santiago brings Santa home in his truck, is this smart,
and are met by Ines with her magazine,
she points, questions, accuses, using one of his false names,
Santiago looks about as guilty and deceiving as a person can look,
Santa, who has just come clean to this seemingly honest, sincere guy,
is like, what?

Santa
Great Deb, Tks

I had many WTF moments with this one.

Would you have trusted Santiago with all that info?????? She is planning to ruin his whole family including his (loving) mother & thinks he wont tell them.?????? I'm sure it will turn out ok, seems these 2 are destined for each other, buuuut!.

Paula is in deep doo, doo. Humberto's icy stare is chilling.

So far I think it's only Begoña that he doesn't know about.

Has anyone heard when Miguel Varoni will join the cast?
Can't wait!

(of Marido)

SANTA DIABLA:

Wonderful recap, Deb, thank you.

Bert told Ricardo to kill all three of the guys he was in the cell with. So far, he's killed one. Paula is also looking for the same three guys. So the race is on!

A big mystery is who is Patricio's brother he had to save from debt. Could it be George?

I feel Sam did the right thing telling Santi everything. He ALSO hates most of his family, and he LOVES Sam, so he'll help her in getting justice (such as the truth comes out, prison, etc.). I don't see anything wrong with this, at least in telenovela reality.

Of course, now he has to tell HIS real story.

Vicente's actors sure gave George a scare. But is this really going to make any difference? I think he's still going to try to kill Gaspar. He sure has a messed up life, druggie daughter, wife sleeping around, getting raped, and he owes all this money. And what's up with his stupid red jackets?

I think with Sam and Santi working together, the playing field against Bert and crew will at least be evened a bit.

SANTA

Thanks, Deb. I also like your recapping style.

Maybe the Patricio character has been introduced as a more realistic relationship for Victoria. I think she's meant to be maybe late 30's or early 40's and long-term success with an 18 year old would be difficult. Pat seems like a very good guy. I was somewhat surprised at how cordial Carlos was. He's always such an ass it was startling to see him being nice to someone.

Aarón Díaz always looks like a deer in the headlights. I think the magazine that Inés found showed him doing something harmless, not the report of whatever happened when he remembers waking up with blood all over him. Couldn't he just say: "Well, I didn't want to trade on the Cano name to make my career in music, so I used stage names." Problem solved. Of course, Inés, who has been watching Marido en Alquiler in the evening to take lessons from Teresa Cristina in shrill hysteria, says he deceived her. I'm sure this character is not going anywhere, but every time she appears, I shudder.

I had to think a bit about the role of madrina in a Mexican or Mexican-American wedding. I have a friend who is the madrina to two of another friend's children. This is the traditional role of godmother. The kids address her as madrina even though they speak English in most contexts.

But madrinas y padrinos perform a different role when it comes to the wedding itself. There are usually several and the role is to supply something. There is a padrino of the laso (the rope or string of beads or flowers that binds the couple at the altar). There might be a madrina del pastel who provides the wedding cake.

This seems odd to American traditions, where the family of the bride, and sometimes the groom, pay for these things.

So, Arturo asking Mara to be a madrina was an amazing slap in the face.

Santa
crazy, Inez just happened to have that very magazine & just happened to go right to the page about Santiago in less than 60 sec.

Santa,

thanks all,
I do have some questions though,

I thought Ricardo (real character name according to wiki, Lázaro Illianes) was one of the three guys, (the reason Humberto gave him a new identity) and I'm assuming Paula now has the names but not faces, but what really throws me is why are these guys out walking around if they were suspected in Willy's death, maybe Humberto could spring Ricardo, but all of them ???

I guess Francisca's purpose in meeting with Ivan was to tell him to go away.

ok, with Carlos/Patricio, I was thinking Carlos got Patricio out of the office because of the black market kidney buying (yet another law Carlos broke), but did Patricio actually get paid, and if so why is he here now, does he want more money, or something else... and why is Carlos keeping him so close,

thanks novelera on your help with "madrina" (I think the term used was "madrina de boda" which translates in my dictionary as bridesmaid, but I was sure there was more) , this must have been a real stretch for Arturo having Mara at the wedding in any form as his mother has already told him no-way, that it probably went right past him what a totally degrading insult it was for Mara,

I'm guessing Mara's plan is to be first with the baby, and I guess she is assuming that Arturo won't sleep with Lisette till after they are married, but 5 days till the wedding isn't enough time to make that definite, and I assume afterwards Arturo/Lisette will then be living together, and... is there any light here for Mara,

and I also noticed that Vicente did not tell Humberto about this little George job he was doing for Gaspar.

Madrina/Padrino de Boda:

We had a whole discussion of this over on the Corazon Indomable line yesteday, as the heroine and galan were asked to be the padrinos of a wedding. In the conext of a wedding, padrino/madrina means sponsor, not god parent. So someone can sponsor a whole wedding, taking the role of the parents, or they can sponsor parts of the wedding-- the laso (lazzo), the aras (coins), rings, the music, the flowers/decorations, the honeymoon, the food, etc. The sponsors pay for each of the things they are taking responsibility for, and present them to the bride and groom during the ceremony or reception.

DYO jueves, part 1/2

Tomas hands Estela a gun… “you are the only one that can pull this off. I’ll arrange everything, he says. She looks stunned, and a bit reticent. Apparently shooting someone is pushing her skewed sense of morality (even though pushing a pregnant lady down the stairs was perfectly justifiable). He lulls her into accepting by kissing her and telling her she is his favorite lady.

JM is distraught about Karina taking off, and Ignacia tells him about the confrontation with Karina and Tomas at the obra. She breaks the news that K was having an affair with T and he is heart broken. She announces she has asked T for a divorce just as Pedro is coming in… “Que?? You asked Tomas for a divorce?”

Mariano is expressing his worry about Estela’s condition to AA at the apartment, and she says he shouldn’t worry because Estela is strong and she’s sure she’ll be fine. Ruben comes in and AA is glad to get out of this conversation. Mariano wants to talk to Ruben about some schools he’s found for Lupita to continue her studies and Ruben is jazzed.

The Rat, disguised as an inspector, gets a tour of the bodega, including info about the arrival of the next shipment of copper.

Ruben isn’t answering Lupita’s calls, even though Ignacia told him she was proud of Lupita for telling her the truth about Tomas. Guess who’s gonna go running to Angel.

JM excuses himself, congratulating the newly free couple and Iggy assures him she’ll find out what’s going on with Karina. Alone, Pedro and Ignacia can’t believe they might be able to be together… “You really did it?” muses Pedro. “I did it!” confirms Ignacia. He tells her that Oleg now knows about his break up with Mireya, and Iggy tells him that Oleg caught Neto and Mireya kissing. “My best friend and my girlfriend?” he responds, but recovers quickly. They kiss and hug, and I sigh… they are so sweet together, but we know another anvil is just around the corner…

El DuroMilio is meeting with a shady character in a parking garage and he wants ShadyGuy to secure an apartment without a paper trail.

JM returns to the constructora looking dejected and dazed. He asks Isabel why she is still there, and she says she stayed because he looked so alterado when he left… she wanted to be there for him if he needed anything when he came back. She mentions Karina but says she hasn’t heard anything about her.

Tomas sets up a meeting with Karina to “help” her with her plans to get away from Estela.

Ruben goes to visit Lupita at Casa Perez, Mariano comes along. Dreamy looks between Rupita and Marina.

Estela is looking at the gun, holding it, and looking nauseous. Tomas assures her after this is over they can be together and no one will separate them.

Karina is packing and Iggy shows up at her apartment (funny how JM never thought to look for her there.). Ignacia demands to know what Karina was going to tell her about her mother (pleeeeease God, don’t let anyone interrupt this conversation…). They start talking about the affair instead (arg! Get to the point!!), and then Karina says “Tomas y tu mamá…” RIIIIIIIIIING! Of course, Ignacia answers the phone and it’s Estela, who, upon finding out Iggy is with Karina, begs Ignacia to come home immediately… she feels weak and her head is exploding. She doesn’t want an ambulance, she just wants her daughter. Ignacia rushes out. (OMG, Karina… it would take all of 5 SECONDS for you to shout out “Your mother is faking her cancer and is in love with Tomas!!!” Seriously, woman!!).

DYO jueves, part 2/2

Lupita isn’t so excited about going back to school despite all of Mariano’s brochures. Ruben gets squirrely when Gina invites them to stay for dinner and says he has to leave, Lupita looks disappointed. Gina follows him out and with lots of talk about family and fatherhood, convinces him to eat with them. But first he has to go get some things and then he’ll come back. Don’t tell Lupita.

Ignacia rushes in to find Estela on the couch, holding her head. Everything’s better, she says. Her doctor gave her a sedative and now she’s going to be sleeping all night, so Ignacia can just go see her Abuela. Ignacia wants to talk to the doctor, but Estela puts her off.

The guys at the carwash present Gema with a small box wrapped in a red ribbon. She’s suspicious, but opens it to find a pair of scissors. Then she walks over to the entrance of the car wash where a red ribbon is stretched across. They tell her someone bought the carwash and put it in her name, she’s their boss now. EDmilio shows up and asks her if she likes it. So I guess I misunderstood about buying the apartment earlier… or maybe that comes later.

Angel and The Rat talk about the bodega… Angel’s not sure it’s possible, especially with Isabel breathing down his neck, but The Rat insists they can get enough money so that Angel can pay off El Duro.

Oleg is looking for Mireya at Casa Perez who has disappeared again when Pedro comes in. Mariano walks in. Gina wants to know what the heck is going on between Pedro and Mireya (oh, crap. Incoming anvil.).

AA is trying yet again to sneak out of the house when she is foiled by a distraught Ignacia who needs to talk to her. She can’t believe she didn’t see who Tomas really was sooner (we can’t believe it either). AA assures her that Tomas had carefully constructed her life so she wouldn’t realize it. Ignacia says she plans to give a relationship with Pedro a try, and AA is elated.

Ruben shows up at Casa Perez with a bottle of wine (for the underage pregnant girl) and something else. Lupita is happy.

El Duro calls Angel to remind him of his debt. Gema calls her brother to tell him she got a raise at work and now can buy his medicine. And she’s in love with a marvelous man. Cut to EDmilio at the club, paying off his henchman, and telling him that killing Angel would be too kind, since he not only robbed him but betrayed him as well.

JM shows up at Casa Villano and demands to know if Tomas had something to do with Karina leaving. He gets no answers.

Pedro overhears Gina and Mariano talking about their relationship.

Estela confronts Karina in the parking garage. Her hesitation is gone. “I told you I was always Tomas’s favorite,” she says… then she shoots Karina and we see her fall to the ground. The question: does she survive like her cockroach ancestors?

Fin del Capitulo

SANTA DIABLA:

Deb, I think (but I'm often wrong) that all the guys who were with "Ricardo" in the jail were released (through Bert's contacts) as payment for helping with the killing. I think the guy Ric just killed even thanked him for that. I'm not sure if there were Ric plus 3, or just three, but I thought Ric plus 3. As for the 3 being suspects in Willy's murder, I don't think that's what they are. I think these guys were there when Willy was killed, and Paula's going to track them down, but I don't think anyone is trying to tie the guys to the murder, because Bert paid everyone off.

But I could be wrong.

MARIDO jueves 29 de agosto Minicap Part 1

K spots Babs outside of Kikito's school. She claims that she just wants to see him. K tells her to get lost which she does after a few choice words about asserting her maternal rights. K and Kikito leave while Babs tells Max that everything is going according to her plan. She finally sees Kikito from afar and is surprised at how big he's become. Later Babs is not in the mood for lovin'.

Gabe is bummed because there is to be a family dinner at Gris' and he hasn't been invited. He decides to go over there anyway and Clara has a fit because again, he and K are leaving her to run the bar while they go off. Instead, she is the one who goes off.

Manuel is remembering bits and pieces of what happened to him. I thought he already knew and is pretending to have amnesia. Anyway he suspects that celeste, Sol and Gris are keeping something from him and he is determined to find out what that is.

Lovey-dovey mother-daughter talk at Gris'. Antonio shows up and is allowed to stay. K mentions that he invited Clara. Gris invites Gabe. K heaves a sigh of relief when he learns Gris made the enchiladas, not Amalia. During dinner Gris says that Clara should have brought Leo. She doesn't know where he is but says she's grateful to Rafa that he has a job. Gabe and co. toast Gris. Meanwhile at the Blue Dolphin, Leo sits down and takes his wad of cash out of his backpack. Victor sees him and asks him how he got so much money. Leo tells him he earned it working. Victor doesn't believe he could earn that much cash by delivering motorcycles to customers.

JP comes home to an empty house. Marcela shows up and when he rejects her advances she tells her she is going to need him. At Alba's apartment Alba finally arrives home and sees that Ester and Beatriz have become acquainted. Alba invites Ester to stay with them.

TC and Pati sit down to a dinner prepared by Ro. TC is in a bad mood and makes several cracks about the dinner. Later Marcela comes back complaining about her job. TC suggests she go back to Europe but Marcela reminds her that staying in her guest room is keeping Tia Iris and her friend out.

At Gourmet Palmer Reinaldo sys it's been the longest day of his life. Vanessa asks if he can give her a ride home. When they arrive at her house she takes his hand and kisses it. She says not to misinterpret a kind gesture towards him.

K and Clara leave together–everyone know what they will be up to. I guess she isn't mad at him anymore for calling her Barbara in the heat of passion. Gabe leaves and tells Gris, "Sueña conmigo." ("Dream about me.") So sweet since they're a couple IRL. Rafa assures Amalia that he will be happy with her despite her lack of cooking skills. Upstairs Gris asks Antonio if he misses his old room. He says not a bit–he is thinking about his future and the room is part of the past. He asks Gris what she is going to do with her life now.

MARIDO jueves 29 de agosto Minicap Part 2

Gris doesn't want to listen to a lot of advice re: her winnings but Antonio gives her some anyway. "Buy a beautiful house." He's happy to see she's not wearing her overalls but she admits that she misses them and her work. We see Reinaldo drive by and look at the house longingly. Gris says that although he was ashamed of her, he still is her son. She lets him kiss her goodbye. This is progress since the last time he left her they shook hands.

At the Blue Dolphin Antonio and Daniel discuss Antonio's conversation with Gris. Daniel thinks he's trying to manipulate Gris by acting like the loving son. Antonio says he always loved Gris (Is there a bridge in Miami for sale?) but was ashamed of the way she dressed and behaved. Daniel still smells a rat.

Very brief scene of a menacing Manuel watching Celeste sleep.

Next day Paloma tells Iris that she's not staying in a five-star hotel. Iris wouldn't even give it half a star. Meals are served in the dining room and everyone is expected to help with the upkeep. It's less an inn than a commune on the beach. Iris is not having it and decides that she has to bug TC some more.

Clara brings K some coffee. She's happy he didn't call her by his ex's name again. He needs to get dressed to go take Kikito to school…but…once more for the road.

Breakfast at Chez Palmer…eggs Benedict. Tia Iris invites herself and plops down at the breakfast table. TC asks if there is food at the posada. Mario (the assistant has a name!) says there is food but no enjoyment of it. Tia Iris helps herself to eggs Benedict and asks Elsa for several croissants loaded with lots of butter. She compliments Reinaldo. In the kitchen Ro teases Manuel.

Sol asks Celeste if Manuel has said anything else. She says he left very early. She goes to Gris' house and Gris says that he is eventually going to remember. Gris offers her money but Celeste refuses because she doesn't want people to think she is taking advantage of her. Celeste leaves. Amalia asks if her godmother is going to stay with a man who is so violent.

At school Pati walks right by Antonio and doesn't even acknowledge him.

Gris walks around her house and muses that she was so busy repairing other people's houses that she had no time to take care of her own. She decides to take Antonio's advice and calls a realtor who she did some work for. She tells him she would like to see the most luxurious condo in Miami.

(Not a spoiler: But we know where she will end up. There goes the neighborhood!!)

SANTA

Deb - thank you so much for your poetic recap. Your prose sounds so much better than the drivel coming out of Santa-Santi.

Well, we all guessed Santa would not go through with the abortion, but who could have known that Willy would have the deciding vote.

Art-less. 'Nuff said.

Re: the number of prisoners involved in Willy's death. I thought it was 3 including "Ricardo", based on what I thought Paula said to Santa several days ago about the names of 3 men identified in the corrections/prison report on his death. But I'm not sure - and frequently wrong. We'll find out soon enough, though, as Ric kills off his fellow ex-cons.

I'll bet Bert finds Barbara's attacker fast than the Mayberry cops.

I think Carlos is keeping Patricio close because he has the same questions we do - why is the guy here, what does he want, will he spill the beans about Carlos' illegal activities.

Santa-Santi are the most annoying protagonists I've seen in a long time. I can't work up a bit of empathy, sympathy or concern for their mournful silence.

I think Bert knows who Begona is. He knows Santa's maiden name and probably had her birth certificate checked.

What a pair of abuelas. Horti and Fran - the Grandmas from hell.

DyO

Amy - thank you! I loved your humorous recap, especially Rupita and Marina, and incoming anvil!

ITA - even though it's standard tn fare, these delays and interruptions when someone is supposed to be exposing the truth (“Your mother is faking her cancer and is in love with Tomas!!!”) are so frustrating. Grrr!

I don't think you misunderstood about EDmilio buying an apartment. I think he's setting Gema up to front for him with something awful. Why else would a bad guy like him be romancing Gema and buying her a car wash? This doesn't feel right.

I loved how AA gently told Iggy, "I told you so" about Nomas and was so happy about her relationship with Pedro. AA really loves her grandkids.

Estela has sealed her fate by shooting KArana.

Marido en Alquiler

I gotta get this off my chest
I catch Marido sometimes in the late night re-runs and I alternately like and hate it. The scene last night between Antonio and Griselda and Ant.s subsequent discussion with his friend is too much on top of all the other times this show has got my back up is too much and I'm gonna bust.
I love that Gris is so natural looking and real person like and I hate that people are always giving her grief about it. Gris is a great example of a independent single Mother (cap intentional) except that she lets people make her feel bad about how she looks. There is nothing wrong with how she dresses. (I do agree w/ one commenter a while back who said that they would change out of the work overalls when the got home, Me too but only because they would be dirty from all the hard work she does, 'cause those overalls look pretty comfy- wish I had a pair actually.)
The people who tell her she is unfeminine - what century are her friends, family and acquaintances from- their attitudes about what is appropriate dress and behavior for women seem antiquated. I was shocked when her own son was chastising her for her appearance, that was so disrespectful, and it was a big reason I was and am ok with her disowning and kicking him out.

Why should she change at all if she's good enough in her overalls and (nonexistent) mustache to attract not 1 but 2 not so bad suitors (although Gabe was better before he cleaned himself up, he should just own it. Like a great character from an old movie I love said "Just cause I'm rough and dirty and don't wear underwear don't mean I aint artistic")

I really hope now that she has $$$$ she doesn't go swanning around the house in evening gowns, it would be like the writers telling us 'It's ok to do a man's job to support your kids if you really have to, but you better not enjoy it and always remember it's most important to be pretty'

Thanks for all the recaps and discussions I enjoy reading them, and I hope I haven't offended anyone with my totally unnecessary rant. I think I'm so het up about this because Senora Griselda reminds me a lot of my own mother. Maybe that's why the shallowness bothers me so much on this show and I can ignore it on other tns.

MARIDO

Excellent recap, Sue. Thanks so much!

I had to laugh when Tia Iris piled her plate high with eggs Benedicts and then grabbed TC's plate and dumped her food on top while everyone watched in amazement. I have a feeling Mario's job is to protect Iris should TC decide to repeat her murderous behavior.

What's with Vanessa's brazen behavior? Do we have a budding Lolita? Just because the boss and his wife are on the outs, V has no excuse for coming on to a man old enough to be her father.

Instead of paying Barbie $5 million, K and Gris should call her bluff, meet with a family attorney, take the b!tch to court and set up court monitored visitations. Little K is going to find out about his mother anyway.

I was afraid Manuel would start hitting Celeste while she was sleeping. It looked like he remembers tripping over the boom box the night he fell and knows the ladies are lying to him. Gris was right when she warned Celeste to get to a shelter.

Beth

MARIDO

Thanks so much, Sue. Loved your recap!

I think Antonio is telling the truth when he says he loves his mother. The problem is that he loved status more. Her sending him to private school and spending money on name brand clothes for him rather created a monster. His values got pretty warped, and he was terrified he'd lose Patti if the Ibarra/Palmer family met his mother.

I also loved the Tía Iris at breakfast scene. There was about a one-second delay between when TC said she was losing her appetite and when the Eggs Benedict were grabbed and slid onto TI's plate.

I'm so over Vanessa. That kissing his hand last night - Eeew! And she doesn't even make a straight play for him like Marcela does for JP. She constantly tries to pretend it's just because she admires him so much as a human being. Please.

I think they're showing Barbie actually tempted by the sight of her child. She's still going to work on gouging Gris, but I'm not sure she's going to be ready to leave town any time soon.

Does anyone understand the mafia guy plotline? He's renting or even buying a house like that in order to pursue a $124,000 debt? Am I missing something entirely?

I love the maid in the Ibarra-Palmer household. (What is her name?) When she was trying to set the croissants on the breakfast table it looked as if she was afraid Iris would bite her hand off if she extended it to the table.

And Reinaldo... I just watched the last four shows and while I enjoyed watching him stand up to TC, I noticed there was also a lot of him standing around looking pained. I don't know if it's the role, or it's where Juan Soler's face is at this point in his life, but watching his face when he's uncomfortable is starting to make me feel uncomfortable. There's a stiffness or something about it. (You might say I should stop watching his face so closely...)

MARIDO:

Thanks for the recap, Sue!

The maid's name is Elsa.

I'm not sure what Manuel wants out of life. He's never happy. If he kills his wife, then what?

I think the mafia guy is just renting. That would be worth it to collect a $124,000 debt. Plus he can add his expenses to the debt. And it's the principal of the thing, mafia guys don't like to be stiffed.

Novelera, I agree with everything you said!

MARIDO

OK I'm not up on real estate Spanish so when I heard Gris say "condominio" I immediately thought condo. When TC said she was convening the board I said "huh?" So I guess TC lives in some sort of gated community?

SANTA DIABLA

This Novela is similar to CORAZON VALIENTE in the fact that the plotline is moving fast. Bert knew Amandas identity all along. Amanda tells the truth to Santi and he decides to help her and now Ines finds that Santi was named Lorenzo and confronts him about it.

SANTA DIABLA... Friday, (epi 18)
part 1

Ines and her Musica magazine just won't go away,
but it only seems to show Santiago using another name,
[magazine pic]
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/metervik/Santa%20Diabla/18a_zpsc9d3480b.jpg
but Santa still wants an explanation,
trust me, but no,

Humberto, killing time at the hospital,
talks to Vicente about the Santi/Ines budding romance,
Vicente acts like he wouldn't wish Ines on anyone,
but Humbo plays it up,

Paula shows up at cellmate #1's, no answer at the door,
she walks in,
he lies dead on the floor,
no wait he's moving, she calls for help,
he says, "toro",
and dies,
(and he has an odd tattoo on his forearm, does Paula see it?)
[tattoo pic]
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/metervik/Santa%20Diabla/18a1_zps0db2667c.jpg

Lucy tells Santa about Barbara,
she rounds up Santi and Ines,
they arrive at the hospital together,
Humberto jumps on Santa for being with Santi,
but backs off, and apologizes for the last time,
gets sweet, and kisses her,
Santiago, from a distance, glares,

Ivan chats with Victoria in the kitchen, touching her whenever she lets him,
he has a present for her,
a laptop that he has fixed up,
her emotions bubble up this time, and she runs upstairs,
Ivan finds her in the bathroom crying,
no one has ever given me anything,
they hug,
Patricio walks in, interrupting?

Ricardo meets a guy out side of Dicey Riley's,
shoots him, and drives away,
(but we see the same tattoo on Ricardo's forearm),

Humbert, with his lawyer smile, talks Ines with Santiago,

Arturo brings Mara a big bouquet of white roses,
she goes back to her desk, she's not talking,
he finally breaks the ice, but Mara lays down the law,
I want us to live together,
leave and don't come back without your suitcase,

Santa calls home (Paula's), talks to Begoña,
who is caring for willy,
I've been worried about you all day, how did the abortion go,
it didn't,
Begoña is upset,
Paula walks in the door, looking a mess after her day,

Paula tells Begona about the guy dying,
but who knew you were going to see him,
hmm, just me, you and Amanda,
oh wait, Santiago...

Ines latches onto Santiago,
and Humberto moves in for the kill,
makes it formal that they are a couple
(not sure why Santi is going along with this)
and moves it up a notch, talking of an engagement party,
Vicente looks like he might not survive another Ines relationship,

SANTA DIABLA... Friday, (epi 18)
part 2

it's late and a beat up George finally makes it home,
as he drags his way up the stairs to his bedroom,
Lucy asks about Barbara, what?

Hortensia and Lisette talk wedding,
your not bringing Ivan are you?

Ricardo stops by to see cellmate #3, "hey Toro", he says,
before the bullets hit him in the chest,

whenever the family goes off busy,
Santiago and Santa come together like a couple of magnets,
and when Humberto returns, there they are,
he rounds up his wife and takes her home, from the hospital,
and throws in about Santi's engagement,
huh!

George finally comes dragging into the hospital in a sharp red jacket,
Francisca calls him the husband of the year,
he explains, I was playing golf,

Carlos stops by the "Golden Clover",
jumps on Transito for talking to Victoria,
talks about the perfect woman Mara,
when she goes to the door and orders him to leave,
he says, I'm the boss, and really starts throwing her around,

Victoria is playing with her new computer, ding,
she's got mail,
"Te Amo"
a lurking Patricio gets a look from behind her,

later on Victoria thanks Ivan for the email,
what?, not me, he says,

Santa at Casa Cano, gets ready for bed and,
where's Humberto?

Humberto arrives at Lisette's,
so your marriage is a farce, I know you, what is your plan,
Humbo moves things along to the bed,

Paula takes willy to school,
(really, a kid that is in a walking coma, that never speaks,
they drop him off in front of a school every day)
but wait, what is Santiago doing following them,

Ricardo, at breakfast reports in to Humberto,
they are all taken care of,
"except one" Humberto says looking at Ricardo,

Lisette drops by the bookstore to check on her money tree,
Arturo, now cut off, just doesn't have the same happy smirk,
talks about canceling the wedding,
"QUE?" says Hortensia,

at Casa Cano, the family gathers in the entry to welcome Barbara home,
Santi arrives at the front door, I have something for you,
in the background Santa comes down the stairway,
Santiago presents willy...

(these bewildered and lost faces Santa keeps coming up with are really breaking me down)

SANTA DIABLA

Ok, I think I'm more or less up to speed with what has happened; I watched the weekly resume on Telemundo and read all your great recaps. Thank you for keeping me informed.

Aaron Diaz is a hottie, but Stalkerago is insufferable. I agree with everyone who expressed their unhappiness with him one way or another.
Samanda getting pregnant - how careless can she be?
Carlos Ponce is the only reason I'll keep watching this, it would have been so unrealistic for Humberto, the great lawyer, not to have run a background check on Amanda - I'm glad he knows the truth and I'm totally rooting for him to drive Santi/Santa mad. How could I not, when they are both so clueless? I could give Santa a break but the way she keeps falling for Santi's so called seduction really turns me off.

Mara is another idiot - no need to extend on that. Iris is grating, she should just take Santi and ride off into the sunset together. I sure know I won't miss any of them.
Paula is annoying me to no end, I'm starting to think it has to do with the actress because she annoyed me in all her previous roles.

I find Victoria and Ivan CREEPY together, the ick factor is too much for me.

Carlos Ponce does a great villain, Humberto is proving every day that he's 10 times smarter then his wife and brother put together.

MARIDO

Wow, so much has happened in the time I was away.
I'm glad I got to ff through all the lost lottery ticket story.
Could Pati really be over Tony? One can only hope.
Esther and JP - I saw this coming, I didn't expect him to cheat or compare a baby to another woman, but I don't find Esther's obsession with motherhood all that endearing, either.

Gabe in his new digs still looks like a shmuck to me. I hope Gris doesn't turn into another femme fatale, now that she has all that money.

Clara is an idiot if she falls for Q for real.
Did Amalia wonder about how can Celeste stay married to an abuser? Is this the path she and Rafe will be taking?

Thank you to the recappers for filling in and making it so much easier for me to stay up to date.
Novelera, do you want to keep recapping? I would definitely not mind sharing, and you seemed to enjoy it so much.
I seem to remember that before I left Sue was taking care of Mondays, but that changed now, right?
Did anybody else recap the shows? I might have missed the names.

Santa
Tks so much Deb
I've never seen Spanic in anything before, is she always so expressionless? She & Santiago are perfect together.
I like Mara, probably because the actor is in Porque el amor manda as Jessica & she is so cute in that. But aside from that, I couldn't agree with you more Adriana Noel. All the characters annoy the hell out of me except Humberto & Gaspar. Santiago drives me crazy & Gaby Spanic of the blank stares.

I'll continue watching, however, trying to identify the locations.

MARIDO viernes 30 de agosto Minicap Part 1

Babs sneaks out to see Kikito arrive at school. Max follows her in another cab. Babs is emotional when she sees her son. Max confronts her.

Gris' realtor describes a beautiful mansion. She asks to see it today.

Tia Iris makes a pig out of herself at breakfast. Mario slips up and addresses her as "tú' instead of "usted." She is going to go upstairs to talk to TC. Mario goes into the kitchen for more food and Ro yells, "Hey put down Dulce and Gaitana's food!" Tia Iris again threatens TC with divulging her secret to Reinaldo. TC stands her ground and says if she did that she would have no reason to give her what she wants. Outside Mario asks Tia Iris why she doesn't just do it. She tells her that holding this secret over her head is most fun she has. Mario would put TC in her place. Tia Iris tells him to be patient. TC will regret her attitude. They rub noses while mafioso guy watches.

The realtor arrives at Gris' house and is not liking what he sees. Gris explains that the owner asked her to take care of the house before he disappeared and that she has been living there for over 20 years. He surmises that now she is a multimillionaire she wants a more appropriate home. He tells her about the mansion he described on the phone. "It faces the Palmer mansion. Do you know them?" "I know of them." Gris really wants to see the house. They go there and Gris waves to Elsa who is outside. Elsa recognizes her and tells Ro and TC, who has a fit. TC says she will convene a meeting of the board of the community (see my note above). TC and Ro go over there while the realtor is showing her the house. TC starts with the insults and reminds her she is "Doña Teresa Cristina Palmer de Ibarra." Gris demands she be addressed as "Doña Griselda Carrasco." TC threatens the realtor's job. Gris points out his boss will love him for finally selling a home that's been on the market for over a year. Gris is buying this house because she can in spite of a bad-mannered hysterical neighbor. TC asks the realtor to do something and he says he's going to get the title and arrange the paperwork. Triumph for Gris!

TC calls Reinaldo to tell him about Gris buying the house next door. She says her presence will make the value of their homes go down. She tells him of her plan to convene a meeting of the neighborhood board.

Back at her soon-to-be former house, Gris tells Amalia about her encounter with TC. She is buying the house anyway. Amalia will tell K and Antonio. Amalia tells Antonio who is thrilled that he'll be living near Pati. Amalia corrects him. Antonio is convinced that Gris will break down and and allow him to live there.

JP arrives at Fina Estampa. Marcia asks him to go over some details of the summer collection. He says that Ester has decided to leave it all and be irresponsible. At Alba's office she asks Ester if she is sure she wants to go through with the in-vitro. Ester is determined to be a mother, with or without JP.

MARIDO viernes 30 de agosto Minicap Part 2

Max accuses Babs of sneaking out to go see her son. He starts to get insecure and fears she will leave him for K. He has serious doubts about her plan to get money out of Gris. So, against medical advice, he decides he will start fighting again. Clinton is going back to Dubai and he can hire another trainer. Babs is not on board with this. Her plan puts no one at risk. Max admits it's not just the money. Fighting is the only thing he knows how to do and if he can't fight he might as well be dead.

Again, Gabe asks K why he's working at the bar. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. Gabe reminds him that there are people who could use his job. Like Leo, says Clara. She has a bad feeling about his job at Fashion Motors (rightly so!) and would like him to work at the bar. (How old is he? Can he work in a place where alcohol is served? I know he worked there before but Gabe paid him in cash so I assumed it was under the table.)

Leo asks Penny out on a date. He will take her to Gourmet Palmer. (Must be the hottest spot in Miami…EVERYONE wants to go there!) She questions how he can afford it. Later she talks to Paloma who says Leo is problematic but thinks she can help turn him around. Still later she talks to Victor who admits that he's attracted her but doesn't have Gourmet Palmer money. She says she would be happy going out for pizza and agrees to go on another night.

As Diosa watches, Gigante is having problems with his serves. I feel a victory for Ro's team is imminent.

Babs arrives at Gris'. She tries to go the sincere route but that doesn't work on Gris. So she names her price: 5 million and she will disappear from their lives forever. Gris can't believe that she would sell her own son. Babs repeats: 5 million, in cash, ASAP. After she leaves Gris goes to the bathroom to throw up. She calls K and asks him to come home so they can discuss Babs' request. K says she should have recorded the conversation so they could play it in front of a judge. Gris regrets not having a smartphone ("teléfono inteligente") to do it. They will hire the best lawyer in Miami and will fight Babs. K feels it's time for his revenge and Gris advises him to tone it down a bit. Babs will not get a cent. She tells K that she is buying the mansion next to TC's mansion.

MARIDO viernes 30 de agosto Minicap Part 3

(So much for this being a minicap!)

Does Babs have a conscience? She runs as fast as she can on those 4-inch heels and almost gets hit by car. She sits on a bench and cries but then her resolve to go through with her plan returns. When she returns to the hotel she finds Max face down on the bed and thinks he's dead. Nope, just resting. He didn't feel any pain while he was training and wants to fight Jorge Muralla again. Babs thinks he should get a second opinion.

Ro tells TC that the neighbors have arrived (she is meeting with them before she goes to the board). Funny line: "Even the senator's sister, his ex-wife and his current lover." TC descends the stairs to the tune of the "March" from "The Nutcracker." How pompous. She makes her speech: A handyman is coming to live among us, a person without and culture or class. This person won the lottery but that money doesn't mean she is appropriate for this neighborhood. The home will look like crap and our homes will be susceptible to rats, cockroaches, and various other insects. Please sign this petition to keep this person out join me in bringing this to the board. And then she says, "Applause for me!"

While TC is making her speech we see Gris hugging her monkey wrench (llave inglesa) and musing about the 20 years of battles the two of them fought. She calls the realtor and he tells her that she needs to sign some paperwork in order to guarantee the house will be hers. She asks what the downpayment is and says she will make out a check. (The word was "monto" which I couldn't find in the dictionary. It sounds like that's what it would be from the context.)

TC says the neighbors must all be united. After they leave Marcela questions her strategy. I can't stand Marcela but here she is the voice of reason. She tells her how harsh and rude she was re: Gris. TC tells her she knows what she's doing. Aristocracy never goes out of style. Marcela points out that one can buy a title on the Internet. TC says nobility is something one is born with. Marcela tries another tack. "Times have changed and you and the board could be accused of discrimination which is very serious in this country. She has the right to live wherever she wants as long as she can pay for it." "Well she's not living the in the house next to mine. She can move somewhere else." Marcela mentions she is going on assignment for a few days. "Don't give my room to Tia Iris." "Don't worry." Marcela leaves and TC walks by a mirror and says, "Beautiful, rich and to the manor born. I love me!!" She starts kissing herself. Ick! Definitely narcissistic.

Tia Iris is at home planning her next move.

The realtor brings the paperwork for Gris to sign and she hands him a check. SOLD!

Marido,

thanks so much Sue!
great recap, and some new words too,

the term "condominio" threw me as well, but I guess it is a gated community as the realtor with mafia guy stopped at a guard house before going into the neighborhood, and btw, there seemed to be no sign of mafia guy living there when they were showing the house, of course Griselda only looked at the main room and was sold,

maybe the beach bums at the posada will help out Iris when he finds her,

I would have thought someone like Griselda, instead of buying a classy house, would have bought something more unique and friendly, and who gets to live in the old place for free?

Santa,

Variopinta, I mix up the names too, Gaby Spanic / Gaby Espino (in this one)

wow, so odd Santiago showing up with willy,
I didn't see that coming, as well as a roomful of people,
then it hit me how Santa has been whining about never being able to spend time with willy,
I wonder how he has this worked out,

George cracks me up,
he probably cheats at golf too,

Ricardo sure is ruthless,
so what does that say about Humberto,
whom he fears,
give us that friendly lawyer death smile Humberto,

I'm kind of liking Victoria and Ivan together, like young lovers,
I know she is older, but still so innocent,
and Carlos has kept her in a cage where she has never lived that part of her life,
the big guy, one kidney Patricio, is just too creepy.

and every time I turn around,
there is Santa and Santi off in a corner together, whispering,
he can't get close enough to her,
she can't decide how close,

could you do something about that Ines,
Humberto,

and Paula, she gets really wound up,
I'm still waiting for George to ask her out.

SANTA DIABLA:

Great recap, Deb, thanks!

I also am not impressed with Samanda, but I think Santiago is brilliant! He's every bit the match for Humberto, introducing Willy. I don't view him as a stalker at all. Now, that Patricio, HE's a stalker.

I love both Lucy and Ines, both so over the top, they make me laugh every time. Ines always gets Santi riled, first she's sending those cut out notes, and he thinks she knows his secret, but no, she only knows he likes Samanda. Then she says she found his picture, knows his past, but it just shows him playing guitar for some kids! BTW, the reason Santi goes along with the fake romance with Ines is that Bert has threatened to out him about him and Amanda to Gaspar, I think. Santi isn't ready for this to come out, and plays along.

I also like Ivan and Victoria, I have no problem with the age difference, it's love, right?

The ones I hate are Carlos and Humberto. Carlos is beyond scum, we all know that. But Bert has that smirk, he thinks he's SO CLEVER, and he's had Willy killed, had Ric kill the three guys, is playing Sam, lies to his father, sets up things just to prove how great he is. I admit, he's a good villain, but I can't stand him, and can't wait for him to be punished.

Pancho, Arturo and George are also funny. What a bunch of doofuses!

Forgot Paula. She's cute, but how wacked can she be to think Santiago is plotting against them, and Santa is helping him? I agree with those who say she's a loose link in the plan. But she did hear the first crook say Toro. And Ricardo has a tattoo of a bull on his forearm. I can't wait to see her wide eyed look when she notices it.

DyO
Woo-hooo! Estela--channeling Lady MacBeth!!!
J in Oregon

Santa
deb, I'll never get the Spanic/Espino thing straight.

Be very careful Ricardo, you are the only one left. I guess Humberto will have to kill him himself if he wants no witnesses left alive.

MARIDO:

Thanks for the recap, Sue, wonderful!

I don't see why Max thinks all he can do is fight. What was he going to do when he got older? Sure, maybe he'd win and be rich, but that's no sure bet. He's young, good looking, he could be a model. Or he could go to school and learn a new trade. But no, he has to fight despite his heart condition.

I do think Barbara has some feelings, WAY down beneath her plastic exterior.

I think Leonardo is 18, old enough to work in a bar/restaurant.

Some people think Gris shouldn't change her image. But isn't it almost time for one of those famous board meetings, where it's going to be decided if Gris can live in the community, and she walks in dressed super elegant and wows the board? Not a spoiler, just that I've seen it in about 5 other shows, and it would come in handy here.

I don't think Rafa is like Manuel. Rafa's bad in other ways, but I don't think we've seen him abuse women (I could be wrong, can't remember). I actually have hope that Rafa will reform by the end of the show. But maybe that's a long shot.

Santa
I had to laugh when Ines revealed Santiago has an alias & Santa had just spilled her guts to him.
I'm afraid the Santa team is like the gang that couldn't shoot straight ¡inepto!

Santa,

wow, thanks Hombre,

I was really missing the part, "the reason Santi goes along with the fake romance with Ines is that Bert has threatened to out him about him and Amanda to Gaspar",

and I didn't have a clue that the tattoo was a bull, duh!
hmm, so toro is ??....
probably not Ricardo's nickname since another had the same tattoo.

The tattoo is probably a prison gang thing.

SANTA

Thank you for the recap, Deb, I love your style.

I thought Santi decided to go along with the fake novios thing to have a cover for he and Samanda becoming close. At the hospital, when they were talking about Humberto being on to them/ being bothered by their closeness he said he would take care to make his bro change his opinion and wouldn't share with Sam the way he chose to do it.

Hombre, I agree with you about Bertie thinking he's SO CLEVER. So far, he is smarter then the rest of them, but I have a feeling this will be his downfall. Sooner or later this smugness will get the best of him, but until that happens, there is nothing that I enjoy more than those icy eyes of his while he's setting up one of his many plots.

It could be just a personal preference, since I don't like Santi's style (those open chested blouses or whatever they're called), but if they dress him in a suit, I might like him better. Here is mu hope for this tn, to see less of the hero's hairy chest and more of him wearing a tie.

DYO viernes, minicap

(from memory, so scenes are condensed and may not be in order)

Ding, dong, the witch is dead! Isabel finds KAraña’s body in the parking garage and screams for help. JM drives up and Isabel breaks the news to him. He is devastated.

Estela is getting all Lady MacBeth, and her beehive hairdo has seen better days. She’s wandering around Mansion Villanomayor talking to herself and sobbing. When Ruben comes to visit, she freaks out and begs him hysterically, over and over again, to get away from Lupita and that family. He is very disturbed by her condition.

Gina finds out about Pedro and Ignacia having a go at a relationship, and desperately tries to convince Pedro to reconsider… calling their love an “amor prohibido”. Pedro things it’s the upper class / lower class issue, but she doesn’t care about that… “You and Ignacia are… are…” INTERRUPTION by the vecindad gang.

Marge comes home, whimpering as usual. “I don’t see why we’re celebrating, I’m still going to die…” Well, then, JUST DO IT PLEASE!! Gina tells Marge privately that it is URGENT they tell Pedro the truth because things are getting more serious with Ignacia, and Marge calls her selfish and whimpers some more. “I forbid you to tell him! If you do, it will KILL me!” You wouldn’t have to ask me twice. [Wow, I’m getting REALLY cold toward this character… if there is one thing I can’t stand more than pure evil, it’s whiny self-pitiers]

Mireya’s cooking up some plan with some unknown character on the phone. She throws another Merrinche and sends Marge’s sewing machine sailing across the room. Olegario must be getting a little tired of returning home to debris. He’s worried and recruits Neto to help Mireya calm down, but by the time they get back to the apartment, she’s cool as a cucumber. From now on, she says, I’m going to be just like this. She butters up Neto… “I really wanted to see you, so glad you’re here.”

Lupita, having reconciled happily with Ruben, breaks the news to Angel that she is taken once again after he asks her to “hang out.”

Having asked Lupita to return to the depa earlier in the episode, Ruben, in the aftermath of his mother’s breakdown, decides to tell Lupita that it’s probably not a good idea for her to return to the depa just yet.

After gloating to dad about eliminating Karina and therefore not being a loser, Tomas pays the nursing home nurse to give dear old dad some heavy sedatives. We get the feeling he’s done this before. Is he keeping his dad drugged up and “imprisoned” just to torture him??

Suspicions abound at the obra about the fake inspector that was just there.

AA is comforting Ignacia and JM regarding Karina’s death and mentions that this was awfully convenient for Tomas, getting K out of the way. We almost see the lightbulb go on over JM and Iggy’s heads.

DYO

Wow, J in Oregon... I see we were on the same page with the Lady Macbeth reference! Wrote the recap before seeing your comment ;)

There is something very satisfying about watching that beehive hairdo unravel... it's like a physical manifestation of her state of mind!

Santa
While we get Santiago spruced up, please shave! I just hate that slovenly look.

DyO

Thanks for the great mini, Amy. It was another eventful episode from beginning to end. I actually felt bad for KArana being shot and left dead in the parking lot.

I had the feeling Nomas was getting those sedatives for Estela. Now that she's killed off KArana for him, he can have Estela go into a drugged, semiconscious state to keep Iggy around, or he could even have her attempt suicide, again to keep Iggy close.

It looked to me like one of the construction bosses or engineers is already suspicious of Angel and the Rat inspector. This does not bode well for Isabel.

I was thinking Mireya was talking to Neto on the phone about whatever plan she has hatched.

Interesting that Marge would rather let Pedro and Iggy get together than tell him the false "truth" about "his sister". Marge is so needy and in her head it's all about her.

MARIDO

Hi, Sue, great recap. Thank so much!

One of my thoughts was, where is Marcela going and what is she up to?

Max may be killing himself with this push to fight again. That would leave the widow free to reconnect. I hope the writers aren't going in that direction.

As despicable as Barbie is, I think she does have (deep down) maternal feelings and regrets losing her son. But she'll take the $5 mil in a NY minute.

Am I the only one who thinks Gris is making a mistake moving to the house across the street from TC? Yes, she can live anywhere she wants, but it seems she's doing this mostly to provoke TC, not because she loves the house or thinks it will make a comfortable home.

Beth

DyO,

great summary Amy,
really love your comments,

amazing death scene with Karina,
(no doubt about it)

after she had told EVERYONE that she was disappearing forever,
I thought they would just have brought her home,
and planted her in the garden,
and no one would have ever missed her,

ah yes Margarita,
she's called the priest so many times for last rights,
he doesn't even pick up the phone,

after her surgery, I was thinking they should put her in a coffin and have a wake,
maybe speed her recovery,

brillant idea, Beth, that Tomas now drugs the hysterical Estela,
to keep Ignacia close,
she really is acting like she has a brain tumor,

hmm, I couldn't tell if Mireya was talking on the phone to Neto,
or about a scheme involving him,

could someone get Angel away from Lupita,
wait till he finds out how much money she has,
and talks her into trying for twins.

SANTA

Deb, wonderful recap. Love your style!

Patricio IS creepy. He made a decent first impression, but he looks more sinister the next day. I think he sent Vicky the "TE AMO".

Isn't it a little strange that all 4 of those ex-cons ended up living in Mayberry after they were released from prison. It is a small world after all. Of course that made it was easy for Ricardo to eliminate three of them in two days.

Lisette wanted the straight story on why Bert married Amanda, but Bert wanted sex. He knows Lisette and wouldn't give her information she could use against him.

Why in the world did Stalkiago bring Wee Willy to Casa Cano? I'm sure Bert recognized the kid. It's cruel to parade him in front of those snakes. There are other ways for Santa to see the boy.

Beth

SANTA:

Why did Santiago bring Willy there? We don't discuss previews, but you'll find out!

NO! You're not the only one. I totally agree. Gris realizes that TC is "off" but is going to provoke her anyway. Bad move.

Storylines I could do without:

Diosa
Leo and Penny.
JP and Ester in-vitro

DYO

Great fun watching Estela come unglued!

SANTA

Hombre - one aspect of this story I like and truly appreciate is that we don't have to wait too long for a reveal, so I expect that Monday or Tuesday we'll hear Santi's rationale for bringing the Wee one to the Cano's. And I think there actually will be two reasons, one for the family to digest and the second for silent Santa.

MARIDO

Sue - I couldn't agree with you more about those three story lines. Filler. I'd prefer more focus on Paloma and Manuel and Celeste, but the writers never ask me.

DyO

J/Oregon and Amy - Love the Lady MacBeth reference. Estela won't be able to handle the guilt.

Beth

Amy, I love the idea of Estela's beehive reflecting her unraveling inner state, that was a truly unsettling scene.
When Tomas asked the nurse for powerful sedatives, it seemed like he had some other plan...otherwise he could have just paid the nurse to keep his dad drugged.
This show is unfolding like one of those Australian Bloomin' Onions...but I'm still puzzled how they will tie in the whole carwash-strip club gang to the constructora.

DYO

Wow, I didn't even think about Tomas wanting the sedatives for Estela, but it makes perfect sense in the state that she's in. That one went right by me... just assumed he was keeping his dad drugged! Thanks for the clarification, everybody :)

Marido

This thing of buying a house just to spite a crazy woman just doesn't fit with Griselda's character at all. I wish she'd instead ended up next door to the Palmer-Ibarra household by some wild coincidence. I'll be able to forget it within a few episodes, but I hope this doesn't mean that Griselda (and others, such as Reinaldo) will continue to act out of character.

The Griselda-Babs confrontation on the other hand was perfect. They contrasted so nicely with each other, the perfect mother with her utterly natural look and the so artificial and so money-hungry Babs, and they each acted utterly in character. And the aftermath was excellent as well, with Griselda made ill by the confrontation and Babs distraught with guilt and loss.

MARIDO:

Utah Desert, ITA with all you said about it being out of character for Gris to move in next door, and about the power of that scene with Barbie. Just like how she offered Barbie that money, but couldn't really go through with it because it was against her principals, she would have said she was buying the house just to bug TC in the heat of the moment, but would have reflected and thought better of it later. But I'm guessing this was a major plot point in the original, so it must stay put.

MARIDO

Yes, Adriana, I was recapping Monday's show. I would like to change to Friday's show because I don't work on Sat. and I can get a recap up earlier.

I found it odd that TC addressed the meeting in Spanish. Are we to assume that all the members of this gated community are "old-money" hispanos? I would like for some of the neighbors to not understand fully, and when it's explained to them, be horrified by what TC wants.

That scene made me recall an episode of "Bewitched." A McMann and Tate client wanted Darrin and Samantha to join his country club. Sam met with the wives of the board and she found them to be awful snobs. She tried to convince Darren not to join but Endora put a spell on him to make him a snob. So Sam does some magical research and finds the members are not as old-money as they think.

Anyway, I find it amusing that I haven't heard one acento cubano when cubanos make up the majority of hispanos in Miami. Over on DYO the Mexican accent is appropriate because it takes place in LA.

Speaking of language, and I notice this more on DYO than Marido: Is the pronoun "tú" becoming a thing of the past? I'm hearing a lot of "usted" addressed to people you wouldn't normally address as "usted."

Welcome to sneaky two shoes. Rant away!
"always remember it's most important to be pretty'
This is the difference between TC and Gris. Earlier in the series TC comments to Gris that she doesn't know how to do anything. Poor TC. I don't have a lot of faith in her event-planning business. I don't want Gris to lose herself. I want her to dress up when it's appropriate.

DYO

I will never forgive Mireya for throwing Marge's brand new sewing machine on the floor!

ACCENTS:

Sue, I suspect the reason why so many of the shows use the Mexican accent as opposed to the Cuban, is that the large majority of the audience is Mexican. Until recently, most of the shows were produced in Mexicio. The Florida thing is new. This all may change with time.

As for usted, I don't think things are changing. Since I don't watch DYO, I don't really know what's going on, but I have observed the use of usted in novelas in the following situations: the character is from Colombia, it's a working class person talking to anyone outside his family, or to a rich person. Also, young people use usted talking to old people, and people with good manners use it with strangers. Rich people just about never use usted (of course their servants have to). These are just my observations as to novelas, not what happens in the real world.

TU v. USTED

Hombre, on DYO the protagonist Pedro Pérez (the "obrero" of the title) addresses everyone as "usted" even his "madrecita santa" and Ignacia (the "dama" of the title). Ignacia was his boss but is no longer. They have admitted their love for each other and he calls her "usted" while she calls him "tú."

I'm familiar with the particular quirk of the Colombians in that they address everyone as "usted." I watched "Betty La Fea" when it was first broadcast and it was something that took getting used to. In fact, if I remember correctly, in a discussion about this topic someone wrote that people who used "tú" were looked down upon in Colombia. I could be wrong–this was 13 years ago.

Then we have the Argentines who developed their own form of singular informal address, "vos" and it's not short for "vosotros." It has its own verb ending in the present which I don't know. Back when I started watching novelas in the late 80s, Univisión would show Argentine novelas. It took me awhile to figure out that they used it in place of "tú." So we have a novela from Argentina called "Sos mi vida" ("You are my life"). This goes for Uruguay too.

Accents & tu

Most of the actors in the Telemundo novelas are Mexican, not Cuban. Many of the Mexicans have homes in Miami.

My Cuban Spanish teacher said the Cubans tu everyone, not sure if that only applied to S FL or to Cuba also.

Santa,

chit-chat,

I can only watch Telemundo but I noticed UniMás started a new novela last Monday, "La Madame" , filmed in Colombia, the interesting part is that one of the main stars listed is Roberto Mateos, who is playing the part of Patricio, in our Florida based novela.

TU VS UD

Just my observation that the use of usted, outside of the Colombian case where it's the default, is used by subordinates to not only show respect to their 'betters' but also to convey their emotional distance from a person. When Gabriela Suarez was mad at Alejandro in La Patrona she called him usted to show they weren't boyfriend/girlfriend. He wanted them to tutear because that'd show they have some emotional intimate connection. So it seems to me usted is a passive aggressive way in tns for lower class people to show they aren't close, friendly, or on good terms with a person of higher class.

I also remember when Gabriela Suarez promised her venganza on Antonia Guerra she used usted when addressing Antonia to show she'd declared war. Just an observation as a keen watcher of human behavior on tns.

Santa
I couldn't agree more on the welovenovelas site on this TN. Wet noodle, perfect description of Santiago. No chemistry between him & Espino, check.

Good one on La Tempestad also, they must be reading my mind.

Tu vs used

The use of tu vs used is very different among the different cultures. Cubans (in Miami) and Cuba are very informal speakers . They generally only use used for their superiors at work or older people that they do not know well. Columbians are very formal speakers and use it most of the time. Then there is everything in between. Central American use it a lot. I had an old Panamanian guy tell me off once because we were playing dominoes and I told him it was his turn. I used tu and he had a fit. For a Cuban, if you know the person well enough to play dominoes with them you know them well enough to call them tu.

There are so many Hispanics in Miami now that it would be weird to have a meeting in any community in English. those elite communities have a lot of Cubans that have made a lot of money here and a lot of Latin Americans that have second homes here. Ther's a lot of foreign money in Miami.

MARIDO

Hola Cuban from Miami

After I wrote my remarks I thought that what you said is probably true. After all, a lot of the Cuban aristocracy left when Castro came to power. And others have come here since and have been successful as well.

I hope that they don't buy into TC's rant. Actually I think Gris should live somewhere else because it seems out of character for her to provoke someone. That doesn't help our plot along though.

Hola Cuban from Miami

Looking forward to your comments on our discussions.

MARIDO AND GENERAL

Adriana, I won't be doing any recaps for about 3 weeks.

I'm way behind on my vacation preparations, so probably won't recap or comment this week of September 2.

I'm leaving for Spain on September 7 and will be gone until the 24th.

I agree that it's out of character for Gris to buy that house and be so "in your face" toward TC.
