Corazon Indomable #75, 8/26/13: The Truth is Finally Out!

It seemed like every single one of our characters showed up tonight. The only no shows were The Gov, Aracely, and Santa. The Monkey, Carola, India Maria, and Andres have all decided to take a permanent vacation from this show, but they might want to reconsider now that we’ve finally reached the moment of truth…

Octavio bonds with Lupita with snuggles and Eskimo kisses. It’s an adorable scene, until he opens his mouth and promises to take his baby girl away from her ignorant, uneducated mama. This is more than our Lovely Lady in Raspberry can take, and Juanita has to hold her back from rushing out to the reception area and revealing her new identity. Mari calls Tav the ignorant one, who doesn’t know that she is capable of ANYTHING! You tell him, Mari!

Ester cries to Ofelia about having to stand by her man, and go live in Realengo. Meanwhile, Jose Antonio continues his campaign to make Ester (and I guess his baby) pay for all the sins of the rich. He points out to Simona that it was Ester who decided to wallow down in the mud at his level—he wasn’t the one who pursued her. (I seem to remember that he had just as big of a satisfied grin on his face as Ester did after their session of wallowing.) And he doesn’t want to get married either! Simona thinks he’s trying to bring Ester down even further. Ester loves him. Well, in that case, JA thinks she should be content to follow him where HE wants to go. (Really, it says so in the Caveman’s Guide to Life, which JA has been reading up on with his new edumacation.) Does he really want to live in Realengo? “Of course not! But it’s the only place I can build my shack, without anyone interfering!”

Simona blames his attitude on stupid pride. JA brings up poor Don Ramiro, and how he was burned to death in his shack. (This isn’t the first time JA has brought this up as reason for him to build a shack on his own land. But couldn’t a murderer just as easily burn you up in a shack on your own land as they could in a shack on someone else’s land?)  He insists to Simona it was no accident. She insists it was, and Don Ramiro just fell asleep with a candle still lit. JA ends the conversation, thanks her for the job, but that’s it!

Tav continues to talk to Lupita. He promises to buy her toys and to never abandon her. He asks her if her mommy sent her with someone, or if she brought Lupita herself, and if so why is she hiding?  (Lupita: Oh, papá! The stories I could tell you…if only I could talk!) He hugs her to his chest, walks her around, and holds her to face him. Lupita appreciates the attention from her papa, and looks into his eyes, coos and smiles in response.

“You are my daughter. Mine. Flesh of my flesh. Blood of my blood. My love, I’m going to love you the most. And even if I have other children, you’re going to be daddy’s favorite. Even more so because you came from that infelíz (poor wretch). Yes, my love. Forever, my love.”

Mari rolls her eyes and works herself up into a rage hearing Tav’s words. “It’s the absolute limit that I have to listen to this crap, and stand here with my arms crossed!” Juanita again prevents her from running out into the reception area.

Back on the Island, Karim is telling his new secretary, “Angel”, about his plans to enlist other nations to help reinstate him to his throne. He’s got plenty of money to pay for an army. Angel advises him to just give it up, already. These people are just going to take his money, and swindle him. Karim has to accept the new world order. He has no support from his people, not even his family. Even a blind man can see that! Karim is not pleased to hear this unhappy truth.

Awww!! This is absolutely adorable. We see Tav at his best. Meaning, his mouth is SHUT, his eyes are closed, and he’s cuddling a sleeping Lupita to his chest. Whatever else we can say about Oblivio, and there is MUCH we can say, he is great with baby Lupita. Mari’s lawyer comes out to interrupt the sweet scene. But he’s not immune to its charm either. Tav tells Licenciado Escobar that the blood calls, and he’s happy. He once again says he wants to take the baby out for a little while to buy her some things she needs, and MC is welcome to come with them.  Lic. Escobar nixes that idea, as the mother doesn’t want that. Tav thinks that as parents, they should both put the well-being of the baby first.  Is he being punished for giving his baby attention? It’s his duty to do so, and he doesn’t want to continue to see his baby in this condition (wearing rags). He wants to take her, buy her clothes, spoil and pamper her. The lawyer gives in, but says he can’t take her right now, since she needs to eat and sleep.  Tav is ok with that. He coos at Lupita some more and calls her an angel. Lupita loves it. Tav asks Escobar to tell MC that he’ll be back at six to take Lupita out. He asks for the lawyer’s word of honor that Lupita will be there when he returns. He gives Lupita some more Eskimo kisses, tells her he loves her, and then gives her a parting kiss. Absolutely a-dor-a-ble!

Mari is LIVID. She takes the baby from Escobar in a snit. “MY daughter doesn’t need anyone to buy her anything. MY daughter has the best things because I give them to her!” Escobar reminds her that the father also has rights. Mari does not agree. He points out that the baby got along very well with her father, as if she has always known him. She even almost fell asleep in his arms. (While he says this, Lupita looks over to him bright-eyed, as if thanking him for talking some sense to her mama.) Mari walks away and says she’s not coming back later.

Escobar just doesn’t get it. (Neither do we, dude.) Mari goes to all this trouble to make Tav pay support for her and the child. Now that he WANTS to buy everything that the baby needs, she refuses to accept it. Mari relents and tells him he’s right. She’s going to return at 6pm with Lupita, but Tav will have a BIG surprise. “Another one?! Madam, this isn’t a game, and those most affected by this are the children.” Mari swears this isn’t a game. (It sure looks that way to us.) She says she’s just looking out for her daughter. Her whole (short) life, her father hasn’t taken care of Lupita. “But did he actually know that the child existed?” Mari admits that he didn’t know of her existence, but it wouldn’t have been important to him had he known. (Huh?) “I don’t need anything from him! Absolutely nothing!”

Karim tells Angel that he’s going to Paris to look for help. Angel says he’ll go with him (I mean, who doesn’t want a free trip to Paris?), to make sure Karim isn’t swindled. Karim brings up the fact that he had a trusted diplomat by his side (Mohamed) who betrayed him.
A: That’s because you treated him like a slave.
K: He WAS my slave!
A: That’s why. All slaves dream of freedom. We can’t have slaves at our service in these times. Nor can we enslave the people of a nation forever.

Karim thinks other nations have just reached a political maturity where their people can handle freedom.  But his people, no. Angel tells him he’s mistaken. (Has it already been noted how much Karim HATES being told he’s wrong?) Karim thinks all his people have done is trade one master (him), for another (his father in law). And they didn’t even choose to do so themselves—it was imposed on them. Angel thinks they don’t have any good choices in leaders—and the one they had was always away traveling. A government can’t survive without its head. Karim swears he will once again be the top dog. “If you can’t return as the master, then it’s best that you stay away forever.” Karim takes this as a challenge.

Ed, wearing his yellow jeans and a cleavage bearing striped shirt, brings Jackie (one of the flight attendants) some coffee as they wait with Serafina at the boarding house for Tav to return with news of his baby and MC.  He walks in on cue. They bombard him with questions. “The baby is precious. Absolutely precious.” He tells them he did not see MC.

At that moment, Mari is back at the mansion, still having a fit about Tav, while Juanita and Lupita look on. She wanted to run out and scratch his eyes out! And now he has the nerve to want to see his daughter at six this evening! (How dare he?!) She won’t give him the satisfaction of seeing Lupita is rags (the ones she purposely put her in). No señor! She’s going to dress Lupita in the best of her best clothes. She calls Tav a hypocrite crying crocodile tears over Lupita. Juanita tells her not to exaggerate. Mari insists he won’t buy her daughter anything. Her daughter is going to see him, looking like what she is, a princess!

Tav tells his amigos that he’s sure MC was in the office, but just didn’t want to see him. His main concern is that Lupita is growing up like MC did—poor and without education.

Mari takes Lupita from Juanita and denies that Lupita could have recognized Tav as her daddy, or felt comfortable with him.
M: My little girl doesn’t have any reason to laugh with him or share caresses with him.
J: But he’s her father. And is it Lupita’s fault that the two of you are fighting? When she’s older, she’s going to want to have a mother and a father.
M: No! She’s not going to (miss having a father). I’ll be more than enough.
J: Well, what about when she goes to high school, and her friends asks about her father.
M: Oh please. Don’t jump so far ahead in time, Juanita.
J: But, she has a father.
M: No. She doesn’t have anything! If Octavio didn’t know how to be a husband, he certainly won’t know how to be a father.

At the boarding house, Tav  tells his amigos that he’s going to look for a second job to do during his days off because he wants his whole pilot’s salary to go to MC and his daughter. Ed asks what he’d do if MC wanted to get back together with him, would he accept? “Yes. And I would be very happy with MC and my little girl.” He remembers snuggling with Lupita, and smiles from ear to ear.

MC and Juanita perfume and dress Lupita in her Sunday finest fancy white dress, and even tie a ribbon around her head. Lupita sneezes three cute baby sneezes-- must be the perfume. (Salud! Dinero! Amor!) She doesn’t seem very happy about the ribbon, so they give up on it and head to the lawyer’s office. Tav arrives at 6pm on the dot, and gets excited when he hears Lupita crying in the next room. He is once again speechless when he sees her. He coos at her, which stops her fussing. She smiles at him in reply.

In the hospital on the Island, Miguel and Lucia are chatting over Miguelito’s crib. Miguel mentions that Tav will be back from D.F. soon, and Lucia really should head back to the ranch to rest up during the two months it will take for Miguelito to build up his strength to have the surgery. She doesn’t want him to leave her alone again, and wonders if they should take the baby to the States for the surgery, that way Miguel can be there with them. Miguel nixes that idea, but thinks maybe Tav will be able to accompany her back to D.F. when the surgery takes place. She thinks so many of their problems would be solved if Tav just married the Gov’s daughter. Miguel reminds her of the existence of Tav’s wild child wife, who is suing him for spousal and child support. Insert Lucia rant.

Tav mentions the fancy clothes on Lupita to Escobar, and says that this obviously means her mother actually has a good economic situation. And here he’s been so worried this whole time! On the other side of the door, Mari says she’s happy he’s been worried. At least that’s one way for him to pay for all he owes her. Juanita doesn’t know why she just doesn’t go out there and reveal herself. Mari refuses. Tav can’t know that she’s the woman of the casino.

Tav accepts that his daughter may not need any material things from him, but he wants to see her at least once a month. And he wants to know what kind of life her mother is leading, since his daughter spends the majority of her time with her.  He wants to know that his daughter is growing up in a moral and decent home. If not, he’s taking her to live with him! Lupita does not like the sound of that, nor does Mari.

Miguel arrives at Raiza’s office in the casino, ready for work in his tux. Both she and Tony are happy to hear that his son is doing better. Miguel hopes that Raiza won’t mind if he abstains from gambling and drinking from now on.  Since he already gambled away the farm, Raiza’s happy to let him go skipping happily down his 12 Step program. He thanks her profusely for her kindness and generosity. He’ll be eternally grateful. Raiza has the decency to at least look a little guilty about it all. She lets him know Mari is in D.F. when he asks for her. Miguel is impressed Mari left her in charge. Raiza’s hope is that she’ll do a good enough job that Mari will leave her permanently in charge to manage the place if/when Mari decides to retire. Miguel thinks Raiza would deserve it. After he leaves, Raiza lets her guilt show, but Tony thinks he’s a poor dope for believing Raiza loves him and that Mari is on his side. Raiza comments that Mari hates him and his family. “At times I think that Miguel was her great love.” “Or perhaps the brother, the pilot!”  Raiza thinks this could be the case, and says she loves intrigue and mysteries.

Back in the boarding house, Tav is filling Ed in on how vengeful Mari is to deceive him this way, and tells him of his demands for visitation. He’s concerned that Mari’s money comes from her living an indecent lifestyle. (Oh, please! Shut Up Octavio!) He thinks Mari better show up to bring his daughter for her visits with him, like a normal person, or face the consequences!  He continues on his high horse about taking Lupita away from Mari if needed.

Tav then tells Ed how beautiful Lupita is. She looks like her mom. She’s sweet and loving, and smiled at him, even though he’s a total stranger. Ed thinks that’s a good sign. When children feel at ease with people like that, it means they haven’t experienced any trauma. Tav thinks it could also be a sign that she’s used to a LOT of people—a lot of strange faces and people holding her. Ed gets where he’s going with this, and tries to discourage that thinking. (What did I say about Tav being more endearing when he keeps his mouth shut?) He says he wants to see MC to tell her a thing or two. (I’m sure she has even more to say to you, Tav.) “Maricruz Olivares and I have to meet again, face to face!”

The next day, Lupita looks relaxed and content on her mama’s shoulder as Juanita gets their luggage ready. Juanita wonders what Mari will do if they run into Tav at the airport. Mari has changed her mind for the tenth time this episode, and now doesn’t care if Tav sees them and finds out the truth. “It’s time that he knew who I am.”

JA works quickly, and his shack is now complete, but perhaps he should have taken a bit more time to get proper materials as it appears he’s built his shack out of sawdust, wood chips and twigs, instead of whole planks like his neighbors have. I am sure the tin roof already has holes in it too. He recites from Chapter 2 of the Caveman’s Guide to Life.
“Now I’m going to have my woman with me, forever. My woman to take care of me, and to be waiting for me when I return from work, to serve me food. A woman who’s going to give me a child. A woman who no one can take away from me.”

One of the local kids comes over to say that his dad says that JA’s fancy woman won’t even last a day there. JA tells the kid to tell his dad to mind his own damn business. The kid hangs around to ask JA the secret to finding a rich wife like he did (he’ll tell you when you’re 18, kid). He wants to be exactly like JA when he grows up, except he won’t work. He’ll just steal from the lands and livestock of the rich people. (Yes, JA. This is where you are bringing your baby.)

Mari informs Juanita that she made the financial demands on Tav just to mess with him and prevent him from marrying the Gov's daughter, not because she actually needs the money. Plus, he doesn’t even have much money, and she’s got other plans for Rancho Narvaez. “Va a ser MIO!”   (It will be MINE!)

The two sisters descend the stairs with their babies, and Mari tells Solita not to be sad. She’ll soon send for her to live on the Island too.  Solita gives her big sis a big hug. Mari tells Solita she hasn’t forgotten her (you could have fooled me), and loves her and her little boy too. Tobi promises to continue to care for them, and Mari thanks him and Justa. Mari tells Solita this isn’t goodbye—just a see you later.

JA finally seems to be thinking about the folly of bringing his child to live in this environment. But his pride is greater than these concerns. He wants his own shack, on his own 100 square feet of land. He doesn’t want to end up like Don Ramiro.

At the airport, Tav spots Mari in the ticket line holding Lupita, and Lupita seems to recognize him from across the room. He points out to Jackie that that baby is HIS baby. Jackie tries to convince him he’s hallucinating and tries to hold him back. But he is sure. He approaches Mari’s back, staring at Lupita’s face. “Are you returning to Isla Dorada, Maricruz Olivares?!” She turns around to face him, first with an impactada look, then with a look of defiance.

Back on the Island, Doris is with Mariana and Isabel, bragging about the hot times she and Tav will have when he returns to the Island. She puffs Mariana up about becoming her father’s wife. Mariana will marry Doris’ father, at the same time Doris marries Tav. Isabel sees through all this delusion, but they ignore her.  She points out that Mari is younger and better looking than Mariana. Doris thinks she’s just mad because the Gov never set his sights on her aunt Ana (please God, not another character!). “My aunt is a woman with principles. Don’t compare her to Mariana.” Oooh! Burn! Mariana accuses her of going after Andres, just like she’s going after the Gov. Isabel points out that she actually LOVES Andres, and she’s sure Mariana can’t say the same about her feelings for the Gov.  Doris snaps her fingers and orders her out. Mariana will marry the Gov because that’s what Doris has decided.

Mari insists that Tav is mistaken. She is Maria Alejandra Mendoza, and the child is HERS, only HERS. Tav insists she’s MC, and the baby is both of theirs. MA insists she’s not. And she can show him the baby’s birth certificate where his name does NOT appear. Tav has tears in his eyes out of pure frustration. Mari threatens to report him to the airline authorities and find another method of transportation if he keeps harassing her. Tav walks away, but then comes back and chokes out through his tears, “She’s my daughter.”  He stares teary eyed at them from a distance, and Mari turns her back to him, allowing Lupita to stare at her daddy from across the airport. Mari also now has tears in her eyes, but since she brought this on herself, I'm not really feeling sorry for her.

Once they land on the Island, Mari tries to hustle Juanita and Lupita out, but Tav runs and catches up to them. They have the same argument. You are MC. No, I’m MA.
T: Well understand this MA Mendoza or MC Olivares, neither one of you is going to make a fool of me!
M: What do you want? It’s not convenient for either of us to create a scandal.
T: I just want to hold her.
M: No! Not here.
T: Then, in your house.
M: Not in my house either.
T: Then tell me where.
M: Go to the casino. Let me make it clear that you cannot enter my house for anything in the world!
T: We’ll see. To see my daughter, I’ll gain entry, either the easy way or the hard way.
M: No, señor! I don’t think you want to enter the house of the “amiga” of the Governor.
T: The “amiga” of the Gov?
M: Why not? I can be the “amiga” of whomever I damn well please!

Mari takes Lupita and Juanita and leaves a confuzzled Tav in her wake. In the elevator, she thought bubbles to herself that now Tav knows the truth, so there’s no point in hiding herself any longer. Now is when the sh*t gets real, and her revenge plan goes into overdrive. She’ll make him suffer more than they made her suffer. He's going to regret that he found her and found out the truth about her identity!

Ed catches up to Tav and he’s still fuming about Mari’s attitude and her relationship with the Gov. Ed doesn’t see the problem with this since Tav did abandon Mari, after all. And she has the right to start over with a big fish like the Gov. Well, if she marries the Gov, then he’ll marry the Gov’s daughter! (Yeah. That makes a lot of sense.) Ed says he has no reason to complain. Tav says she’s the one who started it by bringing a complaint against him, and then didn’t even need the money! Tav is sure she did all of this because she’s jealous. “That woman, deep down, loves me. She’s still in love with ME.” (Wow. His arrogance would be staggering, if it weren’t actually true.)

Mariana helps Doris get ready for her date with Tav. For some reason now, the Gov doesn’t want her to go out alone with Tav and asked that Mariana chaperone them. Doris instructs Mariana to just go home and leave Tav to her. Mariana thinks she’s courting danger. Doris insists that nothing will happen between her and Tav… that she doesn’t want to happen.

Tav is still chatting with Ed at the airport. Ed is skeptical, so Tav lays out his reasons for believing Mari is still in love with him, including her threats to Doris that she’ll either take her man or her dad. It was the perfect way to mortify Doris, and to get revenge on him. (BINGO!) Ed tries to convince him to move on, marry Doris and have some more babies. Nope. Tav wants his existing baby girl, his lovely, sweet first-born. Maricruz better not keep jerking him around, because he too “tener su carácter” (has a strong personality/is not one to be messed with). Things will get ugly, if she keeps jerking him around!

Tav heads straight for Miguel and Lucia’s hotel room and tells them that he saw MC and she’s doing very well. Miguel feels great relief at hearing that news. Lucia wants to know if it’s true that MC had his baby. Tav lets her know it’s a girl, if indeed she is really his child. (Really, Tav?) Miguel is sure the baby is his. Lucia says the baby may not be his, as MC might have lost his baby and had someone else’s baby in that time. Tav says he now believes MC Olivares is capable of ANYTHING! (Isn’t this exactly what Mari wanted him to believe at the beginning of this episode?) “Is she still the same wilding?” Tav says, in personality, yes. But now she’s also educated, elegant and rich. Lucia is incredulous. “Then why is she trying to get financial support from you?” Tav breaks the revenge news, informing them that Mari wants to get back at the Narvaez. “Maricruz Olivares and Maria Alejandra Mendoza are the same person.”  Caras impactadisimas de Lucia y Miguel.

Avances: Mari takes the gloves off with the Narvaez and calls in her loans.

Wow Vivi..you can write a coherent, witty recap and have it all done by episode's end!? Amazing. Got a chuckle out of the image of Miguel "skipping along to his 12-step program".

And good grief, for a moment there I was afraid Octavio was going to doubt his eyes again and accept Maricruz' denial of her real identity.

Favorite part of the episode for me was seeing how well that baby reacted to the actor playing Octavio. He's clearly very good with little ones, and she was darling with him. I'm definitely in favor for more time with Dad! regardless of what Maricruz says.

Thanks for an amazing recap Vivi. Your memory is legendary but now so is your speed.

Thanks Judy! I got an hour head start online. Shhhhh!!

I have to agree with you about Daniel Arenas and the baby. He is very comfortable with her. It seems this happens often- many of our galans are better at holding and entertaining babies than many of our heroines. William Levy and Cristian de la Fuente come to mind.

I am so glad the truth is out. And I'm glad we're moving to the next phase of the revenge plan where Mari takes the ranch. But I am NOT in agreement with Mari using Lupita as a tool in her revenge. Like the lawyer said, this is not a game, and it's the children are affected. I couldn't help feeling that the way Mari was jerking Tav around with his rights to see Lupita, was very similar to how Moronica is using her daughter in PEAM, and we hate her for that reason. I hope Mari stops this madness soon and lets Tav have easy access to his daughter, no matter what other schemes she has going against Tav. At some point she'll come to realize that even those other schemes will affect her daughter, if they affect her dad. But for now, access and visits is the least she should do.

Vivi thanks so much for your recap. Oh my goodness you so made the right call on Tav being better with his mouth shut. His audacity (the child might not be his) and stupidity were amazing. Though he was right about MA being jealous, his non-existent brain cannot fathom her rage especially b/c he won't believe his family and he himself wronged her greatly.

Tav was such a dunce, despite his redeeming moments w/Lupita, I want MA to bring the pain on him and his family excluding poor little Miguelito.

Angel and Karim's conversation was hilarious to me because one person was rational and the other wasn't.

Karen- Isn't that like every conversation between Karim and someone else? LOL!

Yes, Tav said something wrong almost everytime he opened his mouth. He really brought home the saying, "Calladito se ve mas bonito."

I too want him to be humbled by Mari and finally admit and understand the damage he and his family did, but I don't want Lupita to be used as part of that. The kids should be left out of it.

Great recap Vivi! MC is slowly losing the high ground. Why at the airport not just admit who you are?! You know the jig is up at this point.

Poor Solita looked so sad. Prov bec she knows she wont reappear for 30 more episodes!

Someone please explain Angels reasons for working for Karim. I don't get that whole storyline.

JA is soooo frustrating. Actually everyone but Ed is making me frustrated! :)

Carvivlie- I'm not sure why Teo/Angel has decided to work for Karim. My thinking, and I'm likely wrong, is that he's doing it for two reasons:
1) To protect Mari's back, since he knows Karim wants revenge and could use his partnership in the casino to get back at her.
2) To try to set him straight and put him on the right path.

Great recap, Vivi. I was actually breathless waiting for the part where Oblivio finally figured out one and one make two! When it comes to Oblivio truly, 'Se ve bonito calladito.' He and Lupita, though, are amazing. and MA is foul for using the baby to get back at him. Find another way, especially since Lupita was estactic to see her papi.

I actually get JA. He feels he has to pull the he man card to get some equality with Ester. She propositioned him, taught him how to read, got pregnant. She's the center of all the action the only way he feels he's worthy of her is to build the house himself where he wants. It's caveman behavior but it makes sense.

@Vivi - awesome recap. Your reference to JA and the caveman's guide had me lmao. I seem to recall some readers suggesting that JA and Solita would make the perfect couple. Anyone still think that's the case?! lol

And how sad that we are going straight from no more "Oblivio" to "shut up, Octavio". That's the perfect new moniker for Octavio.

Oh, did you notice when O first sees MA holding the baby at the airport that the baby appears to be waving at her daddy? That little one is a "natural" actress, I tell ya.

JdesdeNYC- I see how that makes sense about JA's behavior. But when there's a child on the way, it's time to go into protector mode. It's not just about him anymore.

Latina- Yeah, I always thought JA was too old for Solita, but I would have been ok with Old JA as a match for her. But New JA is a jerk!

Yes, the baby looked like she was trying to communicate with her daddy from across the airport. She was really good about eye contact, and not looking up and around, this episode.

Thanks, Vivi! Loved the quick posting on a messy episode. Very frustrated at the "will she, won't she" dance on MA's part. She should learn that Lupita is not a ping-pong ball and visitation isn't a game.

Octavio charmed his baby girl! He was really sweet with her. He does more face-to-face interaction, while MA tends to hold her facing out.

Some of this tug of war feels like needless padding. The basic story here, with this cast, had some great potential which has fizzled.

I think Angel is working with Karim partly to protect MA. Also, he must be bored and needs a project. Carola and his job are gone, roses can take only so much time, Arecely is safely engaged, so he can enjoy the challenge of managing a dangerous opponent. Beats selling clocks and paintings.

Vivi,

One of the things I've noticed in tns is that when the woman is the one initiating or leading the relationship, it never works out. So, the fundamental problem with Ester/JA is that since JA wasn't the one chasing Ester, their relationship is pretty much doomed. Ester is gonna have to leave so jA, after her does something really stupid, so JA can make up his mind if he really wants Ester since she's the one who chased him. Tns are really conservative that way-the man must chase and the woman has to decide whether she wants to be chased, but she can't do the chasing.

Even in a situation like 'Marido en Alquiler' where Gris this tough, independent woman, she was crushed when Reinaldo told Gabe they were just friends. She wanted Reinaldo to chase, to want to chase like Gabe does, even though he's unavailable. She wouldn't dream of pursuing Reinaldo, even if he wasn't married. In tns: men chase women. The woman only decides to get caught or not. Ester and JA's problem is that since JA never made the decision whether he wanted Ester or not, and she's rich, he's trying to reassert his manhood with the he man act. Neither JA or MA are thinking about the kids in these scenarios.

@La Paloma - you may have missed the comment I put last night on the recap for episode #74. I mentioned that in C.I. Carlos Romero took these 75 episodes to cover the same ground (plot-wise) that was covered in 50 episodes in the previous versions of this novela. So, you're right - we got a total of 25 total episodes SO FAR of "needless padding", coupled with some seriously botched editing. Still love the performances of most of the cast - so I'll give Mrs. Mejia credit for her casting decisions. But she blew it with her choice of writers and her editors. ugh

And speaking of "needless padding", in previous versions the Teo character only had a half-burned face. The ridiculous hunched back was also filler - pun intended.

JNYC- What an interesting theory about who does the chasing in tns, and what it means for the viability of the relationship. MA chased Tav too in the early days of their courtship, although they went back and forth with who was chasing whom. It depended on the day, and who caused the fight in the first place.

But almost always, only the villainesses chase the man.

Right now on La Tempestad, one of the good characters, the aunt of the protagonista, is a very forward woman who makes the first move on the man she's interested in. We'll see how that works out or if the writers stick to the same old gender rules.

So at some point Ester is going to have to dump JA and make him chase her, if this relationship is to work out in the end. Wouldn't that go against this rule that as the woman, she must follow him wherever he wants to go? We have many episodes to go to see how they twist and turn this relationship.

@LatinaInMD, you're right, I do recall your discussion on the added chapters. A tighter script could have kept this TN from wandering off track.
La Paloma

Want to say big THANKS for recaps. I alwyas forget to do it, but I really love them all
As I promised - Daniel and baby-girl

They are adorable. Girl is real actress.

I love everything about this recap Vivi. I too enjoyed watching Tav with that gorgeous little girl last night. And like any future leading lady, she just turned on the charms and let herself melt in her galan's, in this case father's, arms.

Truthfully it made all of MC's rantings all the more difficult to take. She may have justifications for wanting the family to know what she went through, but she needs to tone it down a notch. And using her child? Shades of Vero on Manda. I can't abide it. Suddenly she forgets how much it meant to her own father to find her? Selective memory I guess.

Little disappointed in the JA character being so caveman, but maybe if Ester stays true and he sees her trying and suffering, he'll be won over and somewhat shamed at the conditions he has put her thru. I'm sorry, but that was the sorriest excuse for a "shack" I've seen. It was like some kit called "Patch a Home". You know, maybe he and MC would be a better match.

Daisynjay

I'm amazed at the amount of criticism heaped on MC for "using her child" simply because she threatens to limit Octavio's visitation rights, but hardly any criticism for his repeated threats to completely take her child away from her. Frankly, I have to say I see a bit of gender bias in those comments too. I have the feeling that if down the road MC does everything the way readers want her to do it, she'll still be criticized for it. sigh

Morning all!

Glad you liked the recap.

Latina- It was Tav's ignorant comments about taking main custody of Lupita if MC was raising her to be an uneducated savage, or was a whore raising their daughter among her clients. But let's face it, those are actually real life grounds for getting custody. And he didn't say he would prevent MC from visitation rights.

MC is not working from a position of ignorance like Tav was, since her new life was a total mystery to him. And she is the one with primary custody. She also knows first hand the pain of a parent and child being separated, both from her point of view and her father's. Yet, she's still playing these games about whether or not she'll allow Tav to see Lupita. If Tav eventually does the same, I'll be equally as critical.

Sorry, didn't finish my first sentence. It was those ignorant comments that prompted me to tell Tav to shut up. :)

Yes, Octavio's rants labeling Maricruz as ignorant, illiterate and thus feeling justified in taking the infant away from her mother are even worse. His horror at having his child "raised by a savage" - yet he had never lifted a finger to help improve the situation. Bad, very bad. And then his wild crazy ridiculous speculations - which is why we ask him to shut up. He has never respected Maricruz - never. It was always so easy for him to dismiss her, especially when his "family" told a different story.

Well, it looks like Maricruz has it all wrapped up in terms of her revenge on Miguel/Lucia now, anyway. I'm not sure when Oct will ever acknowledge the damage they did - seems like it will take a lot. He's so easily distracted, and his outrage so often seems misplaced (like the whole Ester/JA bit while ignoring his own past).

Thanks much for you recap, Vivi. I really enjoyed your editorial comments.

Have to admit I giggled through the sudden panicked turnaround of dressing Lupita up as a princess after the undesirable fallout of having presented her in rags, LOL!

And Tav's realization - wow, the baby didn't need financial support, the mother's just doing this suit to cause me problems. Ya think? LOL! And not deserved at all?

Audrey- Yep. Tag has never respected Mari, and at his heart he's a snob. He has much to learn.

His comments about taking primary custody came from his ignorance and his snobbery. But also out of (unfounded) concern for his child's well-being. Mari's back and forth with allowing him visitation rights comes from spite, and that is game playing, which I can't abide.

That's Tav not Tag. Silly tablet. :)

Audrey- I was shocked that Oblivio was able to figure out Mari's game so quickly. I'm sure he'll forget by next episode.

Thanks for the recap Vivi. I haven't seen it yet, not sure if I'll bother since you are always so thorough.

I was hoping for a more dramatic reveal than just an argument at an airport. They could have really played that up.

Perhaps Octavio got more of a reaction to Lupita because that actor probably has children of his own. Ana Brenda Contreras doesn't have children of her own yet, and if one hasn't been around babies before, it's difficult to know what to do and how to act with them.

Daniel doesn't have children. I think it's all because we see MC with baby almost everyday and she always thinks about something else. Behind the screen videos with Ana Brenda and baby are also very cute. We saw OCtavio with the baby only for a few minutes and he was talking to his Lupita. I don't think, that we can compare
Alegria

Cathyx- The baby was good with everyone this episode. She was really paying attention and looking at people. I think it's worth watching just for her scenes.

Audrey- I also giggled about that. I hope Mari’s “get the ranch” plan continues to go better than her “screw Tav over with spousal and child support” plan, because this plan kept backfiring at every turn.

First, instead of rolling over and just handing over the cash and his part of the ranch quietly, he demands to actually see his child. In fact, she made his life easier by coming out of the woodwork, as he could then fire his useless detective.

He then meets the baby, and they get along like old friends. It’s love at first sight. Mari refuses to accept this. Did she expect for Lupita to cry the whole time and for Tav to run away in horror and disgust?

She dresses the baby in rags to make him feel guilty about leaving her and the baby abandoned and unprotected. He then believes she is raising his baby in ignorance and poverty, and wants to buy the baby everything under the sun, and possibly take main custody.

Hell no, Mari says. So she dresses the baby in all her finery, making it clear she has enough money to buy the baby everything she needs. Tav’s response is to further demand visitation rights, AND proof that Mari is leading a moral life. If not, then he threatens to take main custody.

Mari could just not win with this plan. LOL!

Vivi, Audrey, it's as if Oblivio got a brain transplant after Eskimo kissing and cuddling with his pequenita. Lupita certainly is the brain among her parental units right now. Sometimes when you saw her face when she was with MA, she seemed to be saying, 'Grow up, mami. Dad, catch a clue.'

Both Tav and MC need to grow up, but MC should know better since she was separated from her Dad. It's obvio that she's not acting in Lupita's best interest by dilly-dallying on visitation, while Tav, as snobby as he is, was threatening to take Lupita because she didn't look to be well-taken care of. Motives matter. And it is emblematic that MC's shade throwing in dressing Lupita in rags precipitated Tav wanting to take Lupita. She keeps on wanting to
hurt him, rightfully, but ends up shooting
herself in the foot... MC needs to sign up for the Gabriela Suarez/Veronica Dantes School of venganza studies. Motto: calm, cool, collected, thinking two steps ahead.

Thanks for this excellent recap, Vivi. Very well done. Do I sense a bit of exasperation?

"...our Lovely Lady in Raspberry..."

I really didn't care for the look. I especially don't like the dark lipstick and the heavy makeup. What has she done with out sweet, innocent, fresh-faced Maricruz?

Have we seen the last of the monkey? I fear so. And what ever happened with the dogs that Lucia was planning to get?

I was very impressed with that lawyer Lic. Escobar. He seemed so sweet and wise... hmmm... sweet and wise... how did he find his way into this show?

I'm kinda liking Karim and Ángel as a couple.

Carlos

Vivi, great recap.
I am amazed that Octavio right away saw thru Lupita's dress the reality of her condition whereas couldn't be any blinder when it comes to MC/MA. Finally he's put two and two together!
Could it be that in the interest of MA, Teo is strongly but subtly leading Karim to go home to his country and stay there forever!!!!!?
I really think Brenda Ana is so beautiful in that Burgundy dress and lipstick!!!!
Oh and the baby, can I adopt her?

Vivi -- Thanks for making sense of a really botched up episode last night. And thanks for one of the fastest recaps on record. The advance Friday night showed MA in a blue dress with Tav seeing her as she boarded the plane. Last night the meeting occurred with her wearing a black dress and happen in the airport. (?)
Also swear i saw the first 15 minutes of last night on Friday. Very confusing.

I agree with everyone that the interaction of Tav and the baby was wonderful.

Vivi, I always love your recaps many thanks

I'll weigh in too that Daniel Arenas was amazing with the baby. He doesn't have his own children? Well, he must at least be an uncle, because he seemed to know exactly how to hold and engage with the tiny infant. With Ana Brenda the baby always seems to be trying to squirm out of her arms or saying "someone please come take me!".

I'm finding everything coming out of Tav's mouth annoying. One day he is professing how innocent and sweet MC was, then calling her an uneducated savage, then he says she may be getting money by prostituting herself, and instead of feeling guilty that he drove a sweet, innocent girl to do that in order to survive, he uses it as a blow against her ability to be a good mother. When o' when will any of these people take full culpability for their actions and feel sorry for them for more than a nano second? Aye dios mio!

Not only is his taste in clothes suspect, Eddy seems to have a screw or two loose under that thick hair. When Octavio whined that Maricruz might cut off contact between him and his daughter, Ed said something like, "Well, you can always have other children."

Really? Just like getting a new pair of jeans?

Carlos

Carvivlie- Tav, and most of our characters, seem to be missing their "sensitivity chips". I have begun to wonder myself if this whole campaing of Mari's to make Tav pay is useless, because what could she do to him to make him "get it"? What will it take for Tav (or Lucia) to break down, crying, begging Mari for forgiveness? I really don't know.

Losing the ranch will be much more of a blow to Miguel, than to Tav or Lucia. The two of them will get over that pretty quickly (they have both wanted to sell it many times), yet it's the two of them who did her the most harm.

The fact is, the thing that would hurt Tav and Lucia the most is harm coming to their children, and we know Mari won't do that. She could also hurt Lucia by wounding her pride. The eating mud thing that Mari seems to have planned, may do that. But Lucia tends to bounce back from these things pretty well. Her husband is a murderer on the run, or she loses her baby-- she loses it for a bit, then gets right back on her crazy horse.

Tav doesn't really care about money and seems content to live modestly off his salary, so bankrupting him won't matter to him. Poverty does bug Lucia, but she's also scrappy. We've seen that she's no wilting flower who backs down when faced with the need to work.

Putting Lucia in jail I think would be the only thing that works on her, and it's the right thing to do. That's actually where Mari should put her energy. This would also affect Miguel, but not really Tav.

Carlos- Yeah. Ed is also missing his sensitivity chip.

thanks, Vivi. I may have to take a break from this novela now because the storyline focusing on child custody is coming to close to home. Our awful almost ex son-in-law (please God make it so) has custody every other weekend even though he has problems . He now says he will go back to court to get custody every other week even though he still does not have a permanent residence. The girls are only 3 and 6. In Pa . , it is
almost impossible for one parent to get complete custody. I wonder what the custody situation is in Mexico. I have a middle aged guy from Mexico, so I will ask him.

Vivi...love, love, love your recap...as per always. Chuckled outloud at your so very-apt "Caveman's Guide to Life" depiction of JA...and your take on Octavio. I'm afraid you may be very right when you predict Octavio will probably forget what he found out about Mari by the next episode.

I don't understand why Karim is is still in this story line. Is he going to come back in to back Mari's play against Tav and family? Just wondering.

And I have to say the real star actress of this TN now is clear....little Lupita should definitely get a Premio. I could watch her over and over. (And, ok, Tav too.) Marvelous.

Susanlynn- Thanks amiga. I know these storylines with domestic and child custody issues get to you because of your daughter's situation. Let's hope Mari and Tav let go of the custody/visitation issue and focus on the other revenge issues, like the ranch.

Dona Felipa- Lupita really has become the star. I didn't mind having so much of her on my screen yesterday. Just wish the adults around her, namely her parents, were acting better.

Considering all the crap she hears, what do we guess her first word(s) will be? Venganza? Pagar (as in "me van a pagar")? Salvaje? Ignorante?

Vivi..Maybe poor, tiny Lupita's first words will be "Auxillio. !!!!"
I wish that she could be with Solita, her little cousin, Tobias, and Justa in a quieter, gentler environment. Hub and I try to make our home a place of calm and love for our two little grand girls. Lupita needs some family and friends surrounding her to give her a sense of security, normalcy, and protection.

Susanlynn...I sympathize with your emotional reaction to this very unpleasant storyline. I have had my own painful discomfort with another typical scenario on telenovelas, but ultimately I think it's healing. Still, these stories really do hammer on our squishy spots, whatever they may be!

Hopes and prayers that your daughter will get full custody. Or if that's not possible, that your soon-to-be ex son-in-law will only have supervised custody and that for a very limited time period.

WOW!! filler, off track episode? I didn't see it that way at all. Stretch it to 200+ that would be fine with me, I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Thank you Vivi---You're fast. I guess that I'm not that fast--38 comments already. Not bad for an episode that was "so off track." LOL

Vivi---Loved your Cavemans Guide to
Life. Is it available at Amazon.com
I also liked---Raiza's happy to let him go skipping happily down his 12 step program. That's funny.
He's going to need a 12 step program by the time Mari gets through with him.
Oh, Please! Shut Up Octavio! LOL Now we have two shut up's, Doris and Octavio.
He says he wants to see MC to tell
her a thing or two. [I'm sure she has even more to say to you, Tav.]
Marina will marry the Gov. because that's what Doris decided. LOL

A lot of comments about MC's ACE/TRUMP Lupita card. IT'S WRONG, IT'S WRONG!! I say play your trump card to the limit Mari, sue and counter sue on every little issue. Bleed him dry. Yes, he will need two jobs before Mari gets thru with him. I remember back at the beginning, what was the cry of the people when Maricruz was wrapped in grief and crying her heart out every night? OH! It's too mean, it's too cruel, it's terrible, I can't take take it anymore, I'm not watching any more of this. So now everyone says, oh be nice [after he called you a prostitute] let him see baby Lupita whenever he wants. What??? YES!!! He can see
baby Lupita after he is on his knees begging forgiveness, but that won't be for a long time because neither he or his family did anything wrong---remember?

Tav is sooooo dumb. He is not going to let that ignorant uneducated Maricruz raize Lupita. Did he notice the Lawyer's office that the ignorant women hired? BIG
BEAUTIFUL office with fine art on the walls---let's just say that it
wasn't a small one room hole in the wall joint in the poor part of town. Oblivio, you're the ignorant one and that one brain cell that you have will be on a respirator after Mari goes into full war mode.

One last thing---Lupita's dress wasn't "rags" it was a pretty country lace dress and very cute I might add.
the gringo

Gringo- Glad you liked the recap. I think things are really starting to pick up now that the MC/MA truth is out, don't you? Mari's next moves (which hopefully won't include using Lupita) should be fun to watch.

Gringo- I really don't think Tav cares about the money. He seemed pretty willing to give it all up and his part of the ranch too, so mission accomplished--Mari has bled him dry financially. It still hasn't had the effect she wants from Oblivio though, because money and the land weren't that important to him to begin with.

While babies ought not be used as a weapon in marital disputes, alas they often are.

Carvivlie 10:57---YES, YES, YES!!

Daisynjay---It was some kit called "patch a home." LOL
It didn't look very good did it?

J desde NYC---Yes, it makes sense at least from JA's point of view.

One thing that could be interesting
After Maricruz becomes owner of the rancho and walks through the front door as La Senora, what will Awful-felia's reaction be. She wasn't ever very kind to Maricruz and also treated her like trash even though she wasn't all that high up in society herself
the gringo

I don't think, that Tav is interested at money. But he is interested in his good life. That is why he cant say "no" to Doris. Because he can say everything he wants, but marring Doris for him is not a problem. Because she is pretty and she is rich. And for Octavio it's enough. He may be loves MC, but he never respected her. Because she was ignorant and poor. She respected MA because she was rich.
Octavio is not the man with serious moral position. And it's sad.
Alegria

gringo,

I'm with you on this, I thought that this was a fascinating episode even though it certainly didn't make me like Maricruz any better. I'm looking forward to see which way things go from here. There's still the matter of little Miguelito's surgery and I suppose that sooner or later Lucía will need to eat a little mud.

Vivi, Ana may be just the shot in the arm this show needs. Let's welcome her with open arms and give her a chance. I wonder which actress they'll bring in as Ana? How about Laura Flores?

Carlos

Carlos- I know you would just LOVE it if Tia Ana were played by Laura Flores...and so would I. :) OK. I won't be so quick to banish a new character. But so far, none of our new characters have been that great.

Gringo- I think it's safe to say that Awfelia will have a fit when she finds out MC is the new owner of the ranch. It will be very enjoyable to watch.

Carlos- Yes, let the mud eating commence!

One more thing,

"Doris snaps her fingers and orders her out."

And she did with such authority and flourish. I keep liking Doris more and more... if only she were more of a fresa.

Carlos

Alegria- ITA that Tav is not a man with serious convictions of any sort. That's why it's hard to hurt him. He's like Teflon. Nothing sticks. I'm afraid that Mari's quest to hurt him, is only going to make her frustrated, like Elmer Fudd chasing the Road Runner. The anvils end up falling on her, instead of on him.

That's the Cayote chasing the Road Runner, and Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny.

Vivi in DC, yes. Nothing can hurt Octavio for more then a 5 min. may be MC loves him too much to understand this.
Alegria

Alegria- Yes, MC's love for Tav has always been obsessive, and I don't think she's changed much. Just like when she shot him to try to make him stay by her side, all of this is also another way to keep him tied to her. Her theme song says it all. This is a man she should have let go of a long time ago, because he's no good for her (emotionally). Hanging on to him only causes her hurt. But, unfortunately, the end of this story will be that they live happily ever after. This is total b.s. because these two people are totally dysfunctional together, except when they are kissing or having sex.

Vivi,

"...these two people are totally dysfunctional together, except when they are kissing or having sex."

Which is not a bad time to be ...ummm ...functional.

Carlos

LOL!!!

Horrible that Octavio continues to call MC a savage and threatens to take away the baby she raised alone. I know O and MC really love each other deep down but I don't know how she could ever forgive him. She's not using the baby, HE's using the baby against HER and she never did anything bad to him, quite the contrary.

Daniela- Well, now that Tav knows she's not raising his baby in a shack, and she isn't a high priced prostitute, hopefully we can move on from that stupidity. I was rolling my eyes so much during Tav's wild speculation about Mari's circumstances, they almost fell out of my head. LOL!

Now that Mari's identity and life aren't shrouded in mystery, they can get on with establishing normal visitation rights, like normal people, I hope.

Just wait til Doris finds out Maria Alejandra is already married to Octavio. :) Might that reveal be soon?

Emeraldrose:
The blue dress MA was wearing was when she was LEAVING Isla Dorada on her way to see the attorney. Octavio stood at the door looking out, but being Oblivio, didn't see her. Her back was to the plane as she spoke with Juanita and she was going to turn around, but saw him there and quickly turned back. He then went into the cockpit and she boarded the plane. Apparently she deplaned while he was still in the cockpit so he didn't see her.
The black dress is the one she wore on her way home.
