Qué Bonito Amor #113 (Mex 151) Thursday 9/19/13 Que Malditas Tonterías

Santos' trial date has been moved up and it's just too damn bad that he doesn't have a lawyer or anything remotely resembling a defense.  I roll my eyes at the prosecutor bitching that he thinks Santos is a criminal.

At the LA popo, Curtis gives Derecho a shoulder rub as Maria walks in.  She thanks them for letting her see Santos and asks to see his record.  Maria's going to the "If he was a real criminal, he would've gone to the Bahamas, not lived in a craphole and worked as a mariachi," defense.  Maria thinks between that and her pluckiness, she can defend Santos.

Santos is determined to prove his innocence, since his lovely lady snuck into the country to be with him.

Maria swears to Derecho that she didn't know who Santos really was.  Derecho gets the call that Santos' trial is taking place in 2 days.  Derecho tells Maria that Santos is going to be prosecuted by a real hardass.  She begs to see Santos' record.

Mancia gave Concho an aspirin.  He asks them to please call Lourdes and Elvira.

Maria tries to call home, but they're all at the hospital.  When she calls back, everyone is just getting in and Paloma picks up the phone, almost telling her about Amalia being in the hospital, but she passes the phone to Amalia, who ends up telling her that she, Wendy, and the baby were all on the verge of death.

Santos gets access to his file and some time to study it.  The guard warns him not to try to remove anything from the files.  WHAT?!  And there's no such thing as "US Police."  Line up the writers…it's shin-kicking time!

Don Nando muses about his past.

Fernando works his wiles on the social worker, begging for a month to try to get custody of Jalisquito.  She refuses and says she's transferring the kid to Guadalajara.  Fernando tries to trade his marriage certificate for a month's stay of transfer.

Amalia tells Maria to chill, everyone's still alive and kicking.  She tells Maria to stand by her man.  Maria tells Amalia, who tells Justo, about the trial date being moved up.

Santos keeps reviewing his files, taking notes on a single sheet of steno paper.  I'm sure the point on his pencil will break soon, too.  *grumble, hiss*

Maria tries to see Santos, but the guard tells her she can't see him for 2 days.  Only his lawyer can see him.  Maria gives the guard her contact info and asks him to pass it along to Santos.  He says since it's an emergency, he'll do it.  Riiiiight.  Cause knowing where she works is going to help him how exactly?

Santos looks through the binders on the bookshelf, and bless Jorge Salinas for trying to make this look like he's doing something useful, looking through "POLICE FILES," but come on…QTH?  He hears the guard coming back and puts the "POLICE FILES" binder he was looking through back on the shelf.  Along with my hopes of this show ever making sense again.

The guard comes in and takes the files away from Santos.  When Santos asks, he tells him no one came to see him.  "Get used to it."  Where is this guard from?  Cause neither his accent in English nor his accent in Spanish sound legit.  He pulls out some random pages, because presumably there is only ONE copy of the file and it's in PRISON and there are NO other copies, so Santos is now in BIIIIIIG TROUBLE for trying to alter his file.

Maria's plan involves something to do with which judge is hearing the trial.  Justo needs to make a call to put her plan in motion.

Back at Casa Mancia, Elvira and Lourdes are attending to Concho.  Elvira claims to have spent all the cash that got Lourdes all worried about Elvira in the first place.  Susanito tells them he doesn't give a rat's ass and they all leave.

Colosso is home and he's brought Rigo with him.  They talk Roddy into not being an idiot and trying to get Paloma back.

SieteMares whines to Buffalo and some other guy about how his life sucks without Ana.  He sings some song that starts with "I'm leaving forever and never coming back…the love I wanted didn't want to love me…I'm going, defeated…my heart hurts…because the love of my life left me all alone…I'm going to go wander around…."

Mancia is moved by Susanito telling Concho he'd give back the bar if Concho would just quit being a dumbass and apologize.  This makes her happy.  Maybe she'll be willing to listen to the whole "I didn't cheat on Irasema" story now.

"If this pain continues…don't be surprised if my home becomes a bar…I'm leaving, defeated…my heart hurts…because the love of my life…left me really sad."  Bummer.  I should write a song about how I'm leaving this show forever and never coming back, because the show I wanted didn’t want me to want it, so I'm leaving, disgusted, with a heavy heart, because the show has abandoned all pretense of a plot, so I'm going to go channel surf, and if this colossal headache continues, don't be surprised if I have to recap under the influence of tequila, and I'm leaving, disappointed, with my heart (and my head, and my hands) hurting, because my show left me really confused.  Catchy.

Susanito talks to someone about helping Fernando.

Mirna goes to visit Ruben and tell him about Amalia wanting to sell her part of the bar.

The mariachis have assembled at Fernando's to plan his wedding.  He tells them he's planning a surprise for Ana.

Suanito goes to Irasema's to try to talk to her.  She opens the door, but not the screen.  He apologizes for hurting her.  He brought flowers.  She accepts the flowers and kisses him through the bars of the door, and then she can't resist the lure of Susanito and lets him into her place.

Gross.  Ruben and Mirna did the nasty.  Since Ruben doesn't want to be overtly involved, they decide he'll give Mirna the money and she'll buy Amalia's share.  He tells her he'll make her sign some papers first, though.

Susanito and Irasema go tell Mancia that they're back together.  She wants them to go to San Gerardo Majella's chapel in Ixtapalapa so he can bless them with a baby.  Cause he is apparently the patron saint of getting people knocked up.

I hate that OG is still alive.  Especially when he talks.

Gross.  Ruben and Mirna did the nasty again.  They keep planning the buying of Amalia's share of the bar while they bask in the aftergross.

Maria ends up waiting on OG at the restaurant where she's worked for a minute and a half.

What Santos grabbed off the shelf was Nando's file.  He found that Nando was never sentenced and is still awaiting trial.  I cannot keep myself from shouting "It doesn't work that way!"  Santos says Don Nando owes his friend a debt and Nando asks how he can pay.

Maria mouths off to OG and ends up with a gun to her back. And no one in the restaurant gives a crap.

Tomorrow: The eviction of casa Mendoza; OG bought the prosecutor--what a shock.

*sigh* If, in fact, I ever had a beanie, it has disintegrated completely. Also I'm on day five of a cold and the Mucinex is messing with my head. And it's a concert week, so I got home from a rehearsal of Vaughn Williams' Serenade to Music and Beethoven's 9th Symphony to come home to...well, this! Talk about the sublime to the ridiculous! Any of those things may be contributing to tonight's impatience with the hot, hot mess this show has degenerated into. If, in fact, it ever was anything other than a hot, hot mess.

Great job and thanks; there were a couple of things that weren't clear to me.

The way the writers are insulting our intelligence about the US legal system has really gotten me riled up. I'd love to know what the first viewers had to say about this.

Buying the prosecutor would not be impossible for Giuliano, but wouldn't create this situation either. There is no way that a trial could happen on two days' notice without an official arraignment, grand jury hearing, etc. I don't need to go through the rest; a child in this country knows that this situation would never happen.

This is no more absurd than opera situations, so I cease to comment on that. For now.

As to nobody paying attention to the gun in Maria's back I am sorry to say that this is totally realistic. People have become so callous about such things and much has been made about how indifferent people can become to violence after repeat exposure to it in our entertainment. There is also something called the the bystander effect, which usually results in a large number of people doing nothing in cases like this.

This does not exclude the possibility of someone discreetly using a cell phone to call the (ineffectual) police even if just to hit the 911 button and let the GPS kick in. However, with ten or eleven episodes left that is unlikely.

I wonder whether Ruben gave Mirna better reviews in the sack than he gave to Elvira.

Of course, Amalia should wonder how Mirna could possibly afford to buy her half of JNTR when we get to that point, considering that Mirna got evicted last week.

I don't see why Maria couldn't now be Santos' lawyer, even though she's not licensed in the United States OR California to practice law. Why not, since apparently in America you can sit in jail for 28 years without a trial and apparently in America the justice system doesn't give a crap whether you have a lawyer or not, you're still going to trial in 2 days based on a lawyer's suggestion.

The same lawyer who is suspected by the LAPD of killing 2 people.

Elvira is so going down. Refusing to give up the money to help her father get medical help? After all the luxury cars and shopping trips he financed for her? And conspiring with an embezzler and a corrupt lawyer to ruin her father's bar, just to get revenge on Maria?

Yeah, you're going down. Girl, bye.

Mirna's explanation "Oh, I'll just tell them I had some money saved up," wouldn't/shouldn't fly. Unless it's only Elvira who knows she's been evicted. But the way Elvira runs her mouth constantly and keeps calling Mirna homeless...I'd think by now someone would have heard? And if Susanito came to Mirna and asked her to help them sell Amalia's part of the bar...which, why would Susanito be talking to Mirna in the first place without a posse of witnesses...and she had money saved up, then why would she not have mentioned that during their conversation?

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate, but equally important groups. The police, who incompetently investigate crime, and the shady prosecutors, who are in the pockets of the worst "Godfather" ever.

The accused, on the other hand, get the assistance of a plucky mariachi/recently-licensed-after-a-two-week-crash-course attorney. These are their stories.

Hilarious ladies the comments vis-a-vis the legal system. As someone who grew up surrounded by honest lawyers and hardworking policemen this farce sets my teeth on edge. While we may be annoyed to a fair thee well about the vastly insulting portrayal of the US system the writers are actually giving us a vivid portrayal of their own corrupt unjust system — and maybe that is their intent.

Last night was a veritable festival of WTH moments. Mirna tells Ruben about how things went down in the hospital. How would she know? She wasn't there and nobody there would have called her to fill her in.
If Amelia and Susanito are stupid enough to believe anything Mirna say when she offers to buy their share of the bar they are the biggest idiots in the world. And if Susantio gets anywhere near her Irasema should rip her head off.

God help but Amelia so needs to go. Maria calls and Paloma is about to tell her what is going on, Mama stops her and then blurts out that she, Wendy and the baby almost died. I almost died laughing. I guess Paloma wouldn't have drop the bomb in a sufficiently hysterical manner to suit Amelia.

Interesting that instead of trying to find himself a lawyer, work up some defense Santos spends his time researching Don Nando's case. And what did the guard hope to accomplish by ripping a random page out of a book Santos never looked at is beyond me.

I'm still wondering why Ruben and Elvirus think having the bar and taking it away from the Mendoza Sanchez group is such a good idea. The popularity of the bar is based on that mariachi group and Maria. Without them it will be just another dive in the Plaza Garibaldi.

No comment on OJ and whipping out a gun. It may well be that no one saw it and let's hope that Maria uses her street fighting skills to give him a good kick where it will do him the most good.

After looking at Ruben last night i'm henceforth going to call him the Redneck to go along with Orange face. Makes me laugh every time I think of it.

Ruben thinks by throwing Maria's family out on the street & destroying her income she'll come crawling to him.

Elvira's just out to hurt Maria.

Both of them are delusional dummies.

They are definitely delusional . I'm not sure either one of them know that Maria is in LA with Santos the one thing they were trying to prevent. They may throw everyone out onto the street but the Mendozas will have money from the sale of the bar so they should be able to find a new place and thwart the Evil duos plans at least I hope so.

I'm still irked with the English speaking characters sounding so awful and their Spanish is worse. I think the writers are trying to show us bi-lingual characters, like the guards and the warden as well as the BP. It is grossly insulting that their Spanish is so bad since the job requirement would be for fluent speakers and there are thousands of those in the Southwest and LA and for that matter in the rest of the country. I recognize that the primary audience for this TN's is Mexico and apparently there is a perception that any gringo speaking Spanish will do it badly.

OMG, this was just an amazing recap of a telenovela that has lost its way. I had such high hopes for this one and my hopes were dashed. I can't even watch because it makes me want to throw something at my tv, Tuesdays recap should be fun to do, but I don't think I'll be able to top this one.

ELI It has become a hot mess but it is still amusing to watch. I think there were a couple of problems that caused it to go off the rails. First we have an actor arrested who has to be hastily written out for some time, then the galan suffers an injury that for some reason they couldn't write into the story and that sent things being filmed out of order and filler added. Apparently that also may have thrown things behind schedule. Add to it all the Producer was also working on another TN with an overlapping schedule. That one had big problems going in with casting difficulties and changes which also may have screwed up its schedule. One of them did very well and one was soing so badly they contemplated changing its air time. I don't know if it improved or not but what resulted was two hot messes. At least we only have 11 episodes to go and I for one will miss the color and the music.

Decie, the problem goes beyond the issus they had with casting (at least in my opinion)one of the major issues that I've had with this novela is that after a while I just did not care about the characters and also we have villans that had no stong back stories, good telenovelas are made when we actually care about the fate of the characters, when we have good guys to cheer for and bad guys to root against but what did QBA give us? Do any of us like Maria as a leading woman? Do we care about Elvira, ruben and Gulliano? I sure don't, becuase the writers never gave us anything to care about.

5ft - Hilarious recap. "...while they bask in the aftergross" - lol

I still peek at QBA in bits, mostly to see how Jorge is doing. He's looking fine. And I would like to see Mil Amores Sr. and Jr. meet up.

ELI

I don't think they had problems casting this one they did with LT. In this one it looked like Mejia cast a lot of actors who want to sing but normally don't and then threw in some real singers. None of the characters in this TN are over the top pure and innocent or wicked beyond redemption. I actually found it freshing to have somewhat normal people to watch. I liked not having the usual clutter of all knowing servants, meddling priests and crazed villians. I needed a break after La Patorna. And belive me I loved not having people coming back from the dead multiple times, baby switches, lost children and all the usual.

The show coming on after this is not tempting me although I love Diego Olivera. Why on earth they are making him the antagonist is beyond me. I also don't care for the leads and she is too old for Zepeda so I'm going to give it a pass and stick with Marido although that one has pushed the envelope in the last few days and I may just give it the hit and run check it out every few days apparoach. I'd really like to see a good meatly TN but guess I'll have to wait until the current crop fades into the distance.

It just crossed my mind that Fernando wants to surprise Ana. Pleas Lord do not let him surprise her with a cheezy wedding like Derecho did. This girl deserves to have more.

I totally agree, but I'm also wondering whether he will pull a Derecho because of her past rejections of his romantic gestures.

That would be a crime.
