Qué Bonito Amor #102 (Mex 140) Wednesday 9/4/13 We were just looking at buildings for fun. That's what prisoners do.

Que Bonito Amor Cap 140, 9-4-13: We were just looking at buildings for fun. That's what prisoners do.

Hola everyone! It appears I will be subbing again! This is a last minute thing, so keep your expectations low!

SCENES ARE CONDENSED AND NOT ALWAYS IN ORDER. PLEASE READ COMMENTS FOR OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS THAT I'LL PROBABLY MISS!

We have a refrito of yesterday, starting with the college teacher trying to convince Maria to get her degree pronto with sweetheart workshop/test deal (two weeks and she's got her diploma). Maria wants to blow it off to see JAntos; Wendy and her mom try to talk her out of it. JAntos and Michael meet up with a forgetful old prisoner geezer who is undoubtedly Fernando's dad, and JAntos and Michael are busted in the warden's office while looking for the prison blueprints online. (Don't even get me started on this.)

When confronted by the guards, Michael, who apparently is a Golden Boy among the guards and warden, is able to explain away their presence there by saying they're looking up buildings 'for fun'. (Note JAntos's extremely shifty expression here.) The guards are skeptical but let them go.

Amalia is having pains in her shoulder due to her illness. Wendy wants Amalia to tell Maria; Amalia doesn't want to worry Maria at this time. She asks Wendy to keep it a secret.

Maria is going to press charges against Ruben for his extremely rapey behavior. When she goes to the police station to report it, the douchey guy at the desk (he's always been douchey) tries to suggest she's lying and brought it on herself. She's outraged. Other officer (one that works with Derecho and Curtis) tells Douchey to do his job and apologizes to Maria. He then tells her that they've found Gloria's killers and need Rodrigo to come to the station to identify. Don't worry, Rodri's identity will be safe.

Susanito is able to locate the Lost Kid's parents and they thank him profusely, talking about how he must be a great dad. The entire rest of the flippin' episode has Susanito crying his eyes out and sulking because he's "not a complete man" because his swimmers are kinda crappy. He confides in Fernando at first. Meanwhile his mom is telling Maria about his woes. (Everyone in the town will know at this stage!) At the end he tells Ira that she's got to go, because he can't hold her if he can't give her kids. Of course she doesn't want to, he's her everything, but the dumb idiot insists.

Idiocy, thy name is Susanito.

The doctor tells Don Concho that he needs a pacemaker ASAP or else!  Concho is worried about this. He calls Elvira about his surgery. She tells Ruben. Ruben thinks this is a chance to commit some douchebaggery.

Ruben and Elvira plot and plan. Elvira is obviously resentful of all Maria's "good fortune" like part of the bar and the best men. (Meaning JAntos.) Ruben just wants to make sure that if he can't have Maria, that no one else will either. They smirk evil smirks.

Jalesquito (or however you spell it) entices Isa to come with him to the Televisa studios, where they sneak inside to see a "famous person." They're quickly caught by a security guard who wants to call the police.

Ana is talking with one of her friends over coffee about how Siete Mares is being a complete dipshit and pushing her too far. But how could such a guy write such awesome letters? It's a puzzle. Ana's friend suggests that Ana is still in love with Fernando.

Siete Mares commiserates with Coloso in a bar. He thinks liquor is his only solace. Coloso tries to talk him out of that.

We have cute teenaged puppy love as Paloma teases Rodri for being jealous of that other guy giving her attention. FF >>

Maria and Wendy have a bonding moment. Maria confesses that she will get her degree, but don't tell mom, I want it to be a surprise! Then they talk about babies. Maria is so happy for Wendy, but she thinks of her own lost bebe all the time. It's painful. Wendy assures her that a love so big as it is between her and Santos will surely "bear fruit" some day.

Two dipshits on the lam.

Michael and JAntos are scurrying around the prison, looking for a way out. It turns out that the architect who built the prison also built Garza Cars and JUST SO HAPPENED to tell JAntos important info about how they "always" build. So this gives JAntos info on how they can get out. (Or whatever.) Oh my beanie can no longer stay atop my head!

Elvira pretends to apologize and make up to her parents, supposedly she's been scared straight by her father's pending surgery. She offers to apologize to Maria, who she insists will forgive her. Then Elvira can help out at the bar until Don Concho is well enough to return. We see the sneaky look on her face as she hugs her mom. Her parents seem to completely fall for it.

Ana's confused; she doesn't want to hurt Siete Mares and send him deeper into the bottle, but she can't stop thinking of Fernando! Meanwhile, Coloso is sounding smart and sensible as he tries to talk reason to Siete Mares in a bar: Don't depend on Ana to keep you straight, you must do that on your own! And look at how I wasted my time chasing after Maria and she still went with that damned Pochito! And put down that bottle, idiot, don't you remember you vowed to the Virgen never to drink again? This seems to penetrate Siete Mares' brain a bit (we hope).

Talking smart for a change.

Fernando visits Ana unexpectedly and doesn't waste time grabbing her and giving her a soul-sucking smooch. He tells her he knows how to love and he'll show her. The kiss looks too man-handley and I think I hear the actors giggling through it. But Ana hangs on, so I guess she's okay with it.

JAntos and Michael scurry through the prison underbelly while Fernando Senior hobbles some distance behind, unseen by them.

JAntos and Michael get to a place where JAntos believes the "exit" is. JAntos sees a small pencil on the ground. He picks it up. Michael notices a phone on the ground, which rings. They look puzzled. Michael answers the phone and it's Orange Guiliano. He talks to JAntos and repeats his threats. Stop doing anything to me or else I'll kill all your loved ones!

OJ knows where Wendy is!

Michael and JAntos are both upset by this nasty development.

And they're unaware that they've been spotted by a guard!

Orange Guiliano calls Justo and says he knows where Wendy is. If Justo doesn't want anything bad to happen to her, fork over 10 million dollars. He informs Justo that the Old Godfather is out of the picture (gone on a long "trip"). Justo is outraged by the blackmail attempt. He thinks he needs to contact JAntos about all of this.

JAntos and Michael get into a tussle over the phone. Michael is so scared over Wendy's welfare that he insists they call Justo right away to warn him. JAntos is violently opposed. JAntos wants to return to the "exit" later and escape! But that plan is thwarted when . . .

. . . the guard who has been trailing them witnesses the tussle for the phone, which ends in Michael accidentally being thrown to the ground by JAntos. This makes JAntos look like the bad guy and Michael as the golden boy. The guard demands the phone, tells JAntos that he'll end up in solitary for this, and advises Michael to not hang out with this loser anymore.

As JAntos is carted away, he yells at Michael to not call Justo!

Elvira visits Maria's house, to complete her plan: She says the same thing she told her parents: Sorry for being such a witch, she's so scared because of her dad's illness, she wants to help out at the bar for her dad. Will Maria forgive her?

Maria looks like she doesn't know what to think!

END OF EPISODE!!!

Thanks, Elvira. This episode had a few headscratchers and a scene that made my blood boil, which was when Maria went to the police station to bring charges against Ruben.

Which she should have done as soon as he left the apartment, but this delay is not statistically unusual. He was also guilty of breaking and entering and should be charged with that. It made me see red when that asshole behind the desk doubted her word and treated her like a slut. No cop in NYC would ever get away with that.

I will never understand misogyny because it makes no logical sense.

URBAN you and me both with that scene with the cop and Maria. The horrifying thing is that kind of thinking is rampant and not only in Mexico. I was seething so much I probably missed a lot of what came after. The thing that truly galled me is that since the target audience for TN's is Hispanics and women seeing something like that only encourages them to keep their mouths shut when some douche attacks them.

The whole prowling around the underbelly of the prison was insanely stupid in reality but not for a TN. I actually thought that the guy sneaking around checking on Santos and Michael was that ugly prisoner who tried to beat up both Michael and Santos when they arrived. He kind of reminds me of that guy in Machete. The whole pencil and phone schtick made no sense at all. Who left the phone — the ugly prisoner, one of the guards and who would know that the target guys would be there to pick it up in time for OJ's call. That was a total stretch just like all the TN;s where boats explode and people somehow miraculously survive. SMH.

So now Wendy who we know is a blabber mouth is the keeper of two Mendoza secrets and she is giving good advice between the I can't stand living like a poor person tantrums.

Susanito is an idiot. A low sperm count doesn't mean you can't have children or aren't a man because you can't have a family. It means it will be difficult.Too bad he didn't listen to the doctor and just jumped on the self pity train that just about every character on this TN has ridden at some time.

The rough Fernando Ana scene also bugged me. It was out of character for Fernando to act that way. I guess that the we hate women writer/directors were at the helm last night. If some of last night's behavior had been shown in the beginning of the this novela I would never have stuck it out.

Elvira--Back to back episodes. And on QBA! You are a trooper and the quality of your recap never flags. And thank you for the screen caps. I wish I knew how to do that (only a wish, I really don't want to learn anything new that involves electronic technology).

OK, Elvira, I won't get you started, but...the whole, let's escape unnoticed through this maze of aqua pipes, was unbelievable from start to finish. Even the pencil and the phone. (Anita purses her lips and shakes her head.)

I AM liking Saintly and his take-charge attitude, regardless of how ridiculous his plan to escape was. I can't believe he's the first one to think of this. Surely the feds would have gone over the place before taking possession and sealed up all possibilities of escape. That would leave only bribing guards, like the Difunto Padrino did.

The "underbelly" of the prison looked more like Mexico City's water pumping station or an electric generating station to me. Those were humongus pipes.

It was some other long-haired prisoner, probably a snitch who was following Mike & Saintly, but who cares.

Don Concho, it's too late for anyone except Lourdes to care about his fate. If he dies on the operating table, THEN we'd have an interesting battle among the heirs.

Susanito, lost kid, prayers, balloon sent to heaven, slow swimmers, and talk with Fer, I don't care. (I do feel sorry for Irasema, though. If only she'd brush her hair back like it was for her wedding I'd care more about her.)

Paloma and Roddy, I don't care.

Jalisquito and Isa, I don't care.

Coloso and Siete Mares, I don't care.

If you cut out all my I don't care scenes, you could probably cut it down to 30 min. and double up on the next episode, like we did at the beginning.

I do care about Maria and the declaracion. I also worry about Ruben saying if he can't have her, nobody can. Coloso, at least, is a gentleman about it. Right now he and Fernando are Maria and Wendy's only hope to survive whatever it is Ruben and Elvirus are planning.

Justo, although you can't tell by looking at him, is probably beside himself with worry. Wonder what his next move will be. He did say he was going to call in the police, but Dumb and Dumber?????

Let's see what Thursday night brings us.

Decie & UA, I was also disturbed by the callousness of the officer behind the desk. But I accepted it because there are still men here in the states that believe that, even judges, recently.

Over in Marido en Alquiler, we're dealing with a woman who has suffered severe physical abuse for years from her husband until this last time he tried to choke her to death and she STILL didn't want to turn him in (although he'd been arrested in mid-choke).

In La Temp they are dealing with the wholesale trafficking of young women, keeping them literally prisoners for the pleasure of men.

If anyone thinks this is an exaggeration, just check the news from Mexico (and a recent expose I heard this morning on NPR from Tina Brown's segment, Word of Mouth - http://www.npr.org/2013/09/05/219133852/tina-brown-women-are-terrifyingly-vulnerable-in-many-places).

ANITA

You cited a couple of things from last night that are real hot buttons for me. The callous cop did exactly mirror that moronic judge in Montana who said the rape victim acted older than her chronological age. So what she was 14 years old and the guy was her teacher. No matter what, we still have a male mind set that women ask for it, dress for it, like it - gag me please.

That idiot on Marido made me want to slap her myself. I know it is often a cultural thing that you stick with your husband no matter what. But, what kind of example is she to her daughter. She is a reflection of the idea that women are the property of a man and that if he hits her she asked for it, it is his right She also is one of those women who seems to think any man no matter how rotten he treats you is better than none at all. She seems to believe that she wouldn't be a woman without a man in her life and way too many women think the same way.

Then we get Susantio who says he isn't a real man because he can't have kids. Oh boo hoo. Far too many men seem to have the same idea - that having a litter of children often by more than one woman shows they are real men - bull it shows the exact opposite.

Gee can you tell i'm really on my soap box today.

Elvira - totally agree with you. I don't care about all the things you don't care about! I DVR the tns and always FF thru all these needless side stories (plus Amalia and Mancia).

For people who hate lying and keeping secrets (and ALWAYS get holier-than-thou about it), Maria and Amalia sure were quick to ask Wendy to keep theirs! LOL

ANON I guess in Maria and Amelia's eyes the lies they tell are to protect people, everybody else does it to deceive. It's amazing to me that they don't see how hypocritical it is.

In the past when i've taped a TN and fast forward past the scenes with characters I don't like i've sometimes found out later that I missed something so I just grin and bear it with the young un's and Mancia's hysterics. Would love to be able to FF though anything with Amelia but she is a key character so I'm stuck with her although I do cuss her out occasionally.

The whole idea that one isn't a man if he can't knock up a woman is pervasive and ridiculous. One of the ultimate examples in recent TV is the perp in L&O SVU's episode "Reproductive Abuser" who coerces over 20 women into bearing his children. How insecure does one have to be to do something like this?

Misogyny in the modern world -- whether individual or cultural -- must be based in insecurity.

URBAN I read something the other day that some guy died and he 54 kids. Many of them were living on welfare and many had never even seen "Daddy". Make me sick and I'm sure there are a bunch of man who would say this guy was a REAL man — not in my book he wasn't. He was nothing more than a walking sperm donor.

If Susanito is so focused on being a father he could look into adoption but I guess not — he'll mope and man and make an ass out of himself, throw away his wife and God help us fall into the local tequila bottle.

One good thing about Santos making an idiot out of himself and pushing Michael, it will keep the good doc out of solitary and in a position to talk to Justo.

Coloso was never a "bad" guy...just a rival to Santos for Maria's affections.

Coloso wants Maria to be happy and safe, and now, even if it's not with him. That's love.

Ruben is a "bad" guy. Elvira's ticking off how she wants to hurt Maria and all he can do is smirk and grin. That's NOT love b/c you don't sit back and smirk while people conspire to harm your loved one.

Ruben wanted a Maria doll, and now that he can't have her he wants to pull off her hair and limbs and toss her in the corner.

With Irasema's past as a prostitute no agency is going to let her and Susanito adopt.

(she mentioned seeing somebody in prison so she might have a record)

Elvira, I have to say muchas, muchas gracias for the recaps and screen caps today and yesterday. Since I bailed on this TN (more or less), I’ve been really enjoying your recaps and comments from LQNPA. Love your sense of humor and snark, gf.

Anita, agree about the size of those pipes JAntos and Mikey were wandering around. It looked like the piping for the freaking Grand Coulee Dam.

Mexico certainly isn't the only place that might treat rape victims like that; probably more places in the world do than not. It was mostly the case in our country only a generation ago.

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one having trouble caring anymore. With the cast, the music, and the DF location, this TN had such potential, but they've managed to just ruin it. I don’t think I’ll be watching another Mejia production any time soon.

I'm still enjoying it and Marido but the rest leave me cold. After the intensity of LP I needed something lighter and more colorful and this one fits the bill. As much as we tend to blame Producers for crappy novelas becasue they have so much control over the hiring and firing writers and especailly directors are also to blame. I'm always amazed how a bad director can make a talented actor look like a ham. Good actors can somehow rise about bad writing but never over bad direction.

Ruben is more likely to want to kill Maria and... you don't want me to finish that sentence.

However, it does make me wonder whether he might try to sell her to some sadistic foreigner. Not many episodes to go and we should be finding out soon.

DCG, I most definitely agree that the writers are a huge part of the problem here. I haven't seen the original version, LHDM, so I don't know how much was mucked up from that. I understand that was a much better TN, and much less juvenile, which is one of my biggest complaints about QBA.
