Qué Bonito Amor #120 (Mex 158) Monday 9/30/13 Temporary Losses and a Major Confession

El Lay
Prison: In the cell Michael tells Santos to keep on fighting and
he will help. Maria enters the visiting lounge to visit Santos and a
guard is sent to get him.
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Isabel and Ana visit Amalia on the job. Ana
brings Amalia some groceries despite being short on cash herself.
She is about to go to Guadalajara to see El Jalisquito.
Guadalajara,
DIF Facility: Vicente strums a child's guitar as a social worker
approaches him to tell him that a young couple has come to see him
for a possible adoption. He doesn't want to be adopted by anyone
else, but the social worker is less than sympathetic. She tells him that if all is well he will be adopted by these people in a week.
DF, Vecindad: The mariachis arrive to find the apartment building closed down. They wonder what has happened.
El Lay
Prison: In the Visitors' Lounge Maria wonders whether Santos will see her while is on his way, pondering on what to say to her. Under no
circumstances will he risk her life. However, before he gets to the
visitors' area gringo immigration cops with bad accents arrive demanding to know if Maria
is in the country illegally. They grab her out of her seat and drag her out before Santos gets there.
Justo's
Office: He's on the phone again to the mysterious other person
we can't identify, talking about what happened.
Vecindad:
Jenifer and another chick ask the guys how things went in El
Lay. They explain that Vargas pleaded guilty but that Maria is sure
he is lying to protect them. The girls tell them that Elvira evicted Maria and Susanito's families.
El Lay
Prison: Outside, Wendy waits for Michael. He comes out in
civilian clothes. Distance shot of them running slow-mo into each
other's arms. She tells him her father is doing everything possible
to free Santos. Inside, Don Nando thinks about Fernando and that if
they never see each other again he knows that Fernando is a good man.
[At which point we are hoping that Don Nando will not die in his
cell and become a sacrificial lamb.]
Vecindad:
The girls tell the mariachis where Mancia, Amalia, and the girls
are. When Fernando asks about Ana they explain that she went to
Guadalajara to fetch back El Jalisquito.
Guadalajara,
DIF Facility: Vicente
carefully sneaks out.
Vecindad:
Fernando gets angry at this, swearing to recover El Jalisquito
and bring back his father. Etc.
Lourdes'
Apartment: Don Concho is irritated with Elvira, and doesn't
really want to sell his remaining share of JNTR. Lourdes tells him
he must think first of his health. He tells her that the worst is
facing the fact that his daughter is a monster. This is a
reflection upon himself. Lourdes tries to take him away from this
line of thought but he realizes that Elvira will do anything for money.
JNTR,
Bar: As Mirna tries to get something done, Elvira enters and
starts giving her hell. Will there be a catfight? That would be
excellent. However, Mirna breaks the hold Elvira starts on her hair
and taunts her back that Concho will sell her his remaining share.
Elvira demonstrates her true coldness by saying that he never will
even if it means his death. Rubén enters, saying that Concho has to
sell.
El Lay
Prison: In the cellblock the black guard on Giuliano's payroll
taunts Santos with Maria being deported. Santos coughs and starts to attack
him, but then collapses. He looks feverish. Outside, Maria is
dragged out like a common criminal by the immigration police, who
then cuff her. Don Nando asks about Santos but is told by a guard
that he is quarantined because he caught the latest nasty influenza virus. He then tells
Don Nando that Maria was deported before Santos got to the visiting
room.
Tijuana:
Maria is dropped off, but she is determined not to give up.
El Lay
Prison: In the clinic Don Nando insists upon helping to take care of Santos.
The doctor tells him this could be dangerous-- even fatal -- but Don Nando doesn't
care. The doctor gives him a surgical mask.
JNTR:
Rubén has lost his patience with Elvira [We knew that wasn't going
to take long]. Mirna rolls her eyes. Elvira accuses Rubén of
deceiving her father and her. Rubén tries to tell her that this is
how they will get rid of Susanito [Who still owns the last 25%].
Vecindad:
Susanito goes to Irasema's old place while Roddy goes off in search
of Paloma.
El Lay
Prison: In the clinic Don Nando tries to give Santos the
sleep-learning pep talk to keep fighting.
JNTR:
Rubén calmly tells Elvira he thought she was on his side. This morphs
into an argument over who called the police to have him arrested for
the murder of Fabian. He knows that one of them made that call and
orders both of them out. Elvira exits with a grito and Mirna with a
sashay.
Justo's
Office: Somebody official-looking whose name I didn't get tells
Justo about Maria's deportation and that it was a mistake to involve
her in Santos' case. However, he's there to help Justo get to the
bottom of the situation including the reason that Santos pleaded
guilty just as he was about to be found innocent. Justo is impactado. However, what is more serious is that Santos is now ill and
could die.
El Lay
Prison: Don Nando keeps wiping the sweat off Santos' brow,
telling him he has to live for his bonita.
Bus: An
older woman notices Maria's sadness and asks her why. Without going
into details she talks about injustice. The older woman tells her
that there is always justice under God. Maria thinks of past
happiness and besos then starts to smile.
El Lay
Prison: Santos starts coughing. He's bleeding from the ear as
Don Nando gets up to call for the guard.
Justo's
Office: Justo's visitor assures him that Santos is being cared for and there is an
international arrest warrant out for Giuliano Rina and that he (Justo) has a
case against the El Lay Keystone Kops.
El Lay
PD: Curtis and Derecho seem to be making up.
JNTR:
Don Concho enters to confront Rubén, who just smirks at him. He
throws back “The thief who steals from a thief earns a hundred
years' forgiveness because of all that Concho stole from Maria all
these years [Yeah, like he's going to return it to her? Nobody is
dumb enough to believe that.] Concho swears he will get it back,
then tries unsuccessfully to punch Rubén out. He collapses as Rubén smugly exits.
Irasema's
Former Apt: Mancia is upset, but Irasema and Susanito try to
reassure her.
JNTR
Club Room: Concho stands on the stage and remembers the happy
audiences and the great performances by Maria and the others. He
starts to cry.
Street:
Paloma and Aaron walk back from school looking like novios.
Roddy isn't going to like this.
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Concho enters to find Amalia and Isabel.
Amalia is not happy to see him. He says he's sorry to hear about her
being evicted and is shocked when she angrily tells him that it was
his own daughter who did it. On his behalf?
Lourdes'
Place: Lourdes tries to get Elvira to understand that Concho is
sick and she has to help take care of him. Elvira coldly tells her
“You do it; that's your obligation.” “Dear God, he's your
father!” “I have more important things to do that to take care
of him” is the response that doesn't shock us. Elvira further
shocks or confounds her mother by going on about avenging all the
wrongs done to her [which we all know are only in her otherwise empty head].
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Amalia hands Isabel some cash and tells her
to buy something to get her out of the way so she can continue the
conversation with Concho. Isabel grouses a little but reluctantly obeys. Concho
then confesses that he killed Pedro! Amalia es impactada, por
supuesto.
Justo's
Office: The official brought the bag taken from Maria's motel
room. Before Justo can open it the phone rings. He is told that
Santos has gotten worse and he tells them he will get there shortly. The official tells him that he is better
off waiting for news in his office because they won't let him in.
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Amalia doesn't quite believe it, but Concho
tells her that try as he could he can't go to his grave with this
secret. Amalia becomes hysterical for a minute and he helps her sit
down. She looks him in the eye and asks why he did it. As we all
previously discussed, it's because of jealousy and because he wanted
her. She tells him she had loved him as a friend. That was the
trouble because it wasn't enough; Pedro was always handsomer, more talented, etc. Amalia tells him that didn't give him the right to murder Pedro. She gets up and stares him down “No tienes el perdon de Dios,” says
she.
High-Rise
Hotel Room: Giuliano has just updated Rubén who is very
pleased. They drink over it. Giuliano speaks of his pleasure at
having Maria deported. Rubén
speaks of fulfilling his desire and Giuliano of his revenge against the mariachis. They
toast.
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Amalia
calmly accuses Concho of destroying her life. He admits he also
destroyed Lourdes' life and others'. “You will pay dearly for
this” Amalia tells him. He tells her that he already is but not to
worry because she will never see him again. He rises to take his
leave. She tells him she hopes God will forgive him because she can't. [At
last Amalia says something that makes sense!]
High-Rise
Hotel Room: Rubén speaks
again of his revenge and Giuliano mentions his; neither go into
detail about it. Giuliano gets up and exits, leaving Rubén to think out loud about the surprise he has for him;
he knows that Giuliano has plans for Maria [who
does not need two Scarpias].
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Concho has
left and Amalia leans over, asking God why men have such evil in
their hearts. Isabel returns and hugs her.
Street:
Aaron starts singing to Paloma just as Roddy arrives. He
punches Aaron, knocking him down. Before the fight begins Paloma
says she won't have it. [And we'll scream if another Mariachi Kid turns up to challenge Vicente over Isabel].
Guadalajara,
DIF Facility: The social worker explains to Ana that Vicente is missing. Ana demands to know how it could be so easy
for a child to escape from the place, further telling this heartless
woman that she will hold her personally responsible if anything
happens to El Jalisquito.
Doña
Magnolia's Place: Oscar and
Fernando have already explained what happened in El Lay; Amalia is
not that surprised. Isabel cries and yes, she heard the argument
between Amalia and Concho and knows that Concho murdered Pedro. Fernando and Oscar exchange looks.
Bus:
Maria is feeling nauseous and some other pain; the older lady tells her the last
time she felt that way she was pregnant. Maria thinks of the last
time she was with Santos. The older lady asks if the father would be
pleased. Before answering Maria thinks of the marriage proposal, the
night of the storm, and the tree trunk shelter [There is an
Adam-and-Eve flashback scene which is probably digitally censored]. Maria is determined to remain hopeful.
This
concludes my tour of duty on this series, which has mostly been a
pleasure. After four consecutive series I will be taking a hiatus
from recap duty until another new series comes from Jorge Salinas or
another favorite actor. My new duties with my opera club and my
volunteer assignment for the Metropolitan Opera are now in full swing
as the season has just begun. However, I will be commenting on the
next series, will be available to sub upon reasonable notice, and
continuing to provide weekend topics. This weekend will not have one
due to their historical low traffic following a Friday series finale.

Urban, I want to thank you SO very much for all of the work you have done as a recapper for this story. I've enjoyed every one of your recaps. The opera club and the MET should be thrilled to have you as a leader and volunteer. I have no doubt you will enjoy every minute of it!

I don't like the looks of this for Don Nando. I would very much hate for him to die as it would seem so very unfair, but this Mejia character seems to have ideas that I sometimes cannot fathom.

My viewing of this TN has been spotty at best, but I am trying to watch this last week to see how it ends. I want to thank you so much for all your hard work on this TN, we will miss you muchly, but I hope you will be able to sub once in a while so we get to have your always marvelous recaps. The MET and the Opera Club are indeed so lucky to have you. You are a gem.

I think that Justo's visitor is someone he knows professionally, but I can't find the actor's name on the IMDB page for the series.
Do not go to the Wikipedia page because it is loaded with spoilers. Someone needs to write to them about this to get them to find a way to conceal them because we can't be the only country to get these programs months behind Mexico's debut of them.
I have suspected Concho for a long time about the murder; after what Santos and Fernando discovered I realized that Concho was the only person with a motive. There had to be a reason he didn't try to see Amalia all that time and that reason was that he was dodging his conscience. He has been looking progressively worse in the last two weeks so I think he sees his own Karmageddon on its way.
Of course Maria has to be pregnant.
With regard to Karmageddons, we have not seen Ruben's ex since the night she hired the thug to attack Maria. I would hate to see that left as a loose end because she deserves an anvil for that one.

Concho will probably have some catastrophic heart attack as his anvil (my guess). Having lived with the murder of his business partner all his life, plus the outright theft of Amalia's inheritance has had to have taken its toll. I think the final straw was seeing that his own daughter was an evil, selfish woman. That probably hurt him more than anything.
I hate to keep harping on Amalia, but this woman still fries me. If she and her husband had had such a loving relationship, why in the world was she so ready to believe the worst of him? Why didn't she make any efforts to get to the truth? I think that would have made for a much more believable story and would have tempered my dislike for this character.

UA--You have done us a great service hanging in there til the end. I've loved your rat-a-tat-tat recaps, the asides, the speculations, the discussions. I'm going to miss these get-togethers.
But I'm not going to miss the tn itself. I was pretty much disappointed in Jorge Salinas' portrayal of this character and he just looked too old for the part and tired, especially now with a 5 o'clock shadow (it just doesn't look good in HD). Granted he had some health issues, but he's a trooper and didn't let anyone step in for him, either in LQNPA or QBA.
OK, Influenza? Where did that come from? (And diptheria over on LaTemp?) All those prisoners, living in such close quarters, should routinely have gotten flu shots. I've had a bad case of flu twice as an adult and I don't ever remember sleeping peacefully for days.
This one-liner is side-bar worthy: "In the clinic Don Nando tries to give Santos the sleep-learning pep talk to keep fighting."
Oh, and what is the Prision Estatal going to do without its dentist now?

Fatima, I'm still watching CI, so I will comment more about it. I will probably watch MPV but since I can't get excited about David Zepeda as a protagonist I decided that now was a good time to sit out a series for recapping. It happens to coincide with the beginning of opera season and responsibilities to the opera club and the Met.
I will also be starting an opera blog, title TBD. I have yet to decide whether it will be "anonymous" or under my real name. One of my articles will be about how opera and telenovelas have overlapping DNA.
I am going to start writing my closing remarks for QBA but they will not be published until Jardinera's recap is up on Saturday.

UA, thank you for all your diligence and commitment to the caray caray community. I've been reading your recaps and comments all through AB and now QBA, as well as LQNPA, and have come to appreciate your voice.
I'm pretty sure that the unidentified friend of Justo's is the State Attorney General who was around earlier. Just how Santos could be having all the problems he has if his dad is the AG is the only part that mystifies me. ;)
I think the flu deal is just another example of how they think US prisons are like Mexican ones. In this country, there is no way that prison inmates would not get flu vaccinations. In Mexico? No way. And some would die. However, it's not too likely that the healthy and young (or middle aged if your beanie's slipped) like JAntos would be in danger. Whatevs. I am soooo ready for this train wreck to drive itself over the cliff and put us all out of our misery.

Bleeding from the ear with the flu? SMH. If they really wanted to come close to reality and have Santos very ill they should have gone for Valley Fever. It can be deadly and has become such a problem in valley prisons in Cali that at risk prisoners were transferred to other facilities. Santos as a Mexican is in the high risk group. Oh well with four days to go why bother.

UA - Thanks for the fine recap. I haven't been watching but do want to see Santos and Maria in (I'm assuming) their mariachi finery at the boda. Best wishes on the opera season. Whether it’s been for great fodder, like LQNPA, or something else, like QBA, your recaps have been great reading.
Kind of strange to sideline the lead protagonista in bed with the flu in the last week. I know he will rally, but hopefully in time for him to actively right some wrongs. I like the way Maria has stepped up.

"Don Nando tries to give Santos the sleep-learning pep talk to keep fighting." LOL!!!
"gringo immigration cops with bad accents arrive" --that got me giggling today for sure cuz they were so obviously anything but Americans.
"running slow-mo into each other's arms" -- I had to do a double-take here and asked myself if this was a hair shampoo commercial or not.
"At last Amalia says something that makes sense!" --yeah, and it took her the entire tn to do it, too. Tsk.
It was great having you on this team again but we all need a break from time to time. I hope you have the time of your life with the opera group and get to meet some famous singers up close and personal. At least we'll have you and your analytical wit commenting I hope. DZ plays a better villano than galan, but he didn't do too badly in Ocampo's last one so I figure I can handle another with him in the lead. JMNSHO. Anywhoo, thanks for your dogged dedication on this one and the extra flourish you always give us! ; > ))

State Attorney General makes sense. He also doesn't appear to be a native speaker of Spanish, but his accent is nowhere near as bad as most gringo characters (like the immigration cops in this episode).
I wonder whether Santos is sick here because he can keep his eyes closed. The eye patch has not appeared and I wonder whether this was meant to work its way around it. A sudden accident is hard to cover when one is in the final episodes, unlike the emergency when episode 69 of LQNPA was being shot.

I have to say I sure would liked to have been a fly on the wall when Amelia gave her daughter "The Talk". She doesn't recognize the symptoms when she got pregnant the first time and now months later still seems to have missed the clues. And this girl is a lawyer?

I said it in one of my first recaps, these people need a Twitter account, that way when something bad happens they would all know in a second, it could go like this: "yo homies, we got kicked out of our crib!", it would save so much confussion!
UA--I just landed on Caray again and your screen shot of OJ and caption went completely by me earlier today. The caption is hilarious and we *know* you didn't intend any double entendre there.
P.S. Maybe the fact that JS kept his eyes closed during the sleep-learning cure was due to the injured eye problem. The flu thing just happened too late in the action.
