La Tempestad, Capitulo 59, Thursday October 17, 2013 - Todos Los Padres
Labels: tempestad
It is hard to imagine the chopping/editing getting any worse in the show. Some of the digital video cuts were actually visible on the screen.
Alas.
We are moving through so much material, so fast, that I confess I am wondering about the end for some of our characters.
I don't have much hope for Ester making it out of the final alive. Just can't see how that would work.
EJ
The recap is absolutely perfect! EJ you are wonderfully observant. I envy that in you. Weren't those edits a horror? I am starting to become a little fond of them for their comic relief. Yes I know I am demented.
I love it when you write just the way you talk. I could literally hear you say "At Mercedes Mansion, WHICH We Note Has A Staircase of Doom". So funny!
And no, I don't think I COULD have done a better job on that peg-legged sentence. But thank you anyway.
I don't expect Ester to survive either, but now I am wondering if she'll last the month! Guess we'll see.
Oh my, ShutUpRosy is the absolute worst! Imagine what poor Lucia has been through, and now she's stuck with "the cow", and Lu is still in victim mode and won't/can't stick up for herself. It's sad really. Why couldn't Rosario have been munched instead of Padre T? Why do the Padres always die in these shows?
And on that note I believe I'll turn in. Until tomorrow...
I feel bad for Padre Tomas. I hope he pulls through.
EJ, I agree with you; DamPapa did look awesome holding the bebe. He looked so natural, and dare I say sexy. I loved the way he went everywhere with him; not leaving him alone for one second.
Marina is still in her stupid mode, and it's hard to watch. Especially when she went to see DamFab and held the bebe in her arms. She should realize that with all DamFab did to recover his son, that proves what a great father he is. He has a right to know she is embarazada. But instead of being strong, she is being stubborn. I kind of felt the same way about DamSacrifice when he broke up with Marina to protect her.
Glad to see that Claudio and DamFab will be working together. EJ, I agree, Bea is OK in my book now too.
I hope Marina doesn't fall into Herny's trap again with the job offer at the hotel. But I have a bad feeling about it.
I hope we hear from Padre Tomas soon. Something really bad needs to happen to Hernan, Fulgencio, Nereo, Esthercita, ShutUpRosy, Macario, Ursula (for being involved in the kidnapping), and any other bad guy or gal that I forgot to mention.
EJ, I loved your Avances. It made me LOL. And somehow it made perfect sense to me. Maybe it's the time. I need to go to bed! Hasta manana!
Yawn...Goodnight, Sylvia..goodnight, EJ...I feel like one of The Walton's. Well, it is 5.30 a.m. here, and good morning for me as I get ready to go off to babysit.
I feel sorry for Damresponsible. He was so sweet holding that bebe. I am glad that he has support from Mercedes and Claudio. I love Claudioms smile.
You are really right about Estercita playing a dangerous game, she wouldn't be going along with Hernan's plan, she'd be packing and running.
I loved, Sadly, Marina Has Had A Lobotomy. And your warning for the steal reinforced beanie. AND, "she cannot cause Damian to be away from his other son who may not be his son but is certainly Ester’s son and who could possibly be the son of that dirt bag peg-legged Mafia Don, Ernesto." I just giggled over my coffee this morning, you really helped, because if it weren't for the recappers I'd be giving up on this story. Is Telemundo any better?
Ay, what are the editors doing? Did Padre live or not? Why is Lazaro still going to the Navel Academe?
What I really loved was Estercita seeing that dump. It is really puzzling that a girl like her is pursuing DamBrokeButDamLoveable so determinedly. I can't wait to see how she reacts when Ernesto shows up. IF the editors decide to let us see it.
As far as the episode? There must be something inherently wrong with a segment where Bea has me sighing, applauding and crying and Marina has me scratching my head with dismay and surprise. What the heck is going on? You are totally right that this change of character is out of the blue and well, totally out of character. Marina is making no sense.
I'm still not understanding Hernan's connection to the hotel where Marina worked (less so than Marina's backing down and not doing anything to the BOD or whomever they are).
While I do agree Mercedes does seem to be all about her, I do feel for her. She loves her daughters and I like the relationship that she and Bea (whom I feel is the REAL mother in every sense of the word) have forged. And yes, Mags did seem to be listening to Bea which was surprising. I saw doubt but not the usual disdain that usually clouds Mag's countenance.
Sylvia, I hate the Lu/Rosy storyline as well. What a bullying sow Rosy is...
So happy Claudio is back! He brightens every scene he is in. AuntyAnn, totally agree - Dam and Claudio will be a Damfinecollaboration.
Damian and the baby - precious. And Dam's smile Susanlynn! Melting...
Hoping Ernesto's return is imminent. Looking forward to Hernan, Mauricio and Ester scatter like the little rats that they are...Emarie, I think Ester will be his first target so she should be frightened. To death.
Elna June, thanks again!
Happy Friday All!
Diana
Oh my, that wonderful ironic tone which you carried all through the recap-- just perfect for this utter mess at the moment.
"after a short period of dithering, Damian accepts"
Hotel Hernán
"storm-tossed lovers"
and best of all, your "whatever" concerning the avances.
Yes, Marina is acting like a total ditz at the moment, much like the stupid crap Damian pulled when he was in prison.
This too shall pass, but I'm sure we'll have to live through a whole lot more nonsense before our Storm-Tossed Lovers are in each other's arms again.
Maybe it's not so bad that Univision is hacking and condensing this. Just don't mess with my José and Rebecca.
Great recap Elna June. Your world-weary tone was just right for this highly edited episode.
Hola Susanlynn and Auntie Ann..me too..up at 5 am but not on computer till now. Have a great day!
This episode was so badly edited. Ugh! Shame on you Univision!
I continue to dislike Marina. She is being so stupid. I hope she regains her senses and tells DamDaddy the true. DamDaddy told her loud and clear that he'd love to have a child with her and yet she still refuses not tell him about her pregnancy.
Loved how DamFab and Claudio reunited. I'm glad DamFab accepted the job offer. He will be better working in place where he does not have to deal with Hernan.
DamDaddy was so sweet with Baby Michel. Loved those scenes.
I hope Padre Tomas pulls through. Fully and Nereo can't get away with this.
I got a chuckle out of DamPragmatic's clothesline strung in his modest hotel room for the bebe's clothes. Awwww. What a dear daddy he is. However, Pester did not seem to share my amusement or admiration for a guy just doing what had to be done. I love sweet guys.
And yes, Susanlynn...sunshine has once again appeared in Ohio. Hooray!
Odd that Marina was so devastated when Damián pushed her away for humane reasons and now she is doing the very same thing... duh.
I hope that Estercita finds someone to keep up with Michel because she really doesn't seem to be very enthusiastic about this whole mother thing. I do enjoy her character so much. The way she sized up Damián's apartment was so funny.
So what is his plan? Live there with Estercita while he pursues his divorce? None of these people seem to be good at planning... with of course the exception of Hernán, who's not especially effective, but at least always seems to have a plan.
Carlos
Hotel Hernan..would that be pronounced "Otel Ernan?"
When Pegleg Pete catches up with HadaEster.... and we all know that he eventually will...YIKES. We also know that even if that poor bebe is part of Ernasto's dark and murky gene pool, DamDevoted is going to be his daddy in the end since neither Ernasty or Pester is parent material.
This novela seemed to be focusing on mothers ..good and bad (Bea, Mercedes, Rosy, Delphina) and motherless daughters (Mag and Mayuya), but now the focus seems to have shifted to fathers .
DamLuckySonofaGreatdad had a great relationship with his dad and thus has an excellent role model for being a great dad. Also, the positive, upbeat Claudio appears to have become a father figure to Damprotege . Laz raised without a father by a possessive mother. We do not know much about Hernan's father except that he was killed by Ernasto, and having Ernasto as a guardian must have been damaging.
Jose seems to have been raised without a father , but Mercedes took him under her strong wings. He turned out to be a great guy.
Ful-of-Himselfio has been a dreadful dad to Pester , and he just recently found out that Laz is his son and is trying to influence him. Despite being raised by single mother Rosy, Laz seems to be a pretty good guy probably due the influence of his father figure , his Uncle Padre.
The novela makes me think of this quote : " Other things may change us, but we start and end with family." - Anthony Brandt. I recently discovered this quote and added it to my quote collection, and it is one of my favorites.
There is nothing more attractive, heart-melting, than DamHotSexySweetDotingDad. mah oh mah!!
Not liking tonta Marina right now.
Uni should cut out all ShutUpRosy scenes.
Enjoyed all your comments today - thanks for making me smile.
Diana
Nice to see everyone this AM.
Sylvia: You are a dear. Calling this recap 'stupendous' is generous in the extreme, but I truly appreciate your praise.
I believe all of us Tempestad recappers are doing the best we can with what is being presented on the television. I recall that several years ago, our beloved blog mom Melinama was blogging one of the comedies—I cannot recall which one—when the editing or writing changed dramatically. She expressed her frustration after the end of the show but soldiered on throughout the process. Frankly, when a telenovela is truncated, and carelessly done at that, it just isn't as much fun for us recappers, is it? It takes time to recap but usually it is a labor of love. In times like this, much of the joy is gone in the effort and it can seem more of a chore.
Still, I welcome the presence of beloved and familiar actors in our repertory theater. Rene Casados' appearance last last was so fun. But the real standout performance last night was from William Levy. Mr June watched the episode with me and noted that when he was holding the (real) baby in his arms Levy looked utterly natural and compelling in front of the camera.
EJ
What I can't understand is why Uni is not looking at the ratings and understanding that this TN is being watched so there is no reason to edit it. Now over on CI, I would love for Uni to take some scissors though our recappers have been literally making gold from not even straw.
Mauricio - thanks for letting us know what we missed. All those scenes with Dam as Daddy, darn you Uni!
Add me to the list of those of you who want no ShutUpRosy and more other stuff; its a wonder Uni realized that showing Herny and Ursully was good to edit out.
I forgot to say how much I enjoyed the "Los Padres" theme. Very astute of you my dear. Interesting switch from the all-about-moms theme.
EJ, I had to giggle at your exasperation with Mercedes. She is a bit self-centered, but I'll bet that character trait helped her become a successful woman.
Susanlynn, what a wonderful quote. Thank you for sharing with us.
Sleepy Susanlynn: How great of you to stop by, before babysitting and morning coffee. What a champ. And Claudioms? The most perfect nickname for our platitude spouting demi-hero. Occasionally he does remind me a bit of Polonius, though. Hee hee hee. I hope that you and your family are well.
Emarie, Laura Carmine did a great job with that scene in the run down apartment, didn't she? Her indifference to her baby makes me think that she knows he is really Ernesto's child. Her attitude, which could represent post partum depression stands in high contrast with Mercedes' histrionics.
Hey, Cynderella, Great to see you! And thanks for your kind words.
Diana: you said, "As far as the episode? There must be something inherently wrong with a segment where Bea has me sighing, applauding and crying and Marina has me scratching my head with dismay and surprise. What the heck is going on"? What a great comment! I thought Bea was great last night and her act was very generous to Mercedes. They really do seem to have become real friends. The actresses have great chemistry together.
Dear JudyB: I hate to tell you, dear, but the rat bast@rd$ cut out numerous wonderful and sexy scenes with our favorites Jose and Becky. Those actors also have wonderful chemistry.
Mauricio: You are too right, my friend, about Marina the idiot. Miss Truthfulness herself is pregnant with her true love's baby and when she sees him she neither tells him that they are expecting a baby nor does she respond when he tells her he would like to have a baby with her. Pah!
Carlos: Hernan is the man with a plan alright. And although ineffective, he still gets higher executive ratings than Fulgencio, who is always having the sadistic Nareo attempt murder only to see him fail. I think he needs to reconsider Nareo's position...
EJ
Uni, you can go to hell. Idiots all for cutting those delightful scenes.
Karen, amiga! Great to see you. ITA with you on the editing sloppiness, not just the continuity. My great niece who is 10 years old made a wonderful movie on her MacBook and it was beautifully edited. She did it all herself, no help from Mom. Perhaps you should offer YOUR services as a consultant to Univision. They would be so lucky to have you and then we would know that scenes with ShutupRosy, that self-inflated classist cow, would be languishing on the cutting room floor.
EJ
I'll bet that when Nareo comes back from the Naval academy that he has ditched his charming but funky knee length pants. Hey, isn't that a four-year stint at the Academy? Hope he gets leave to come home and see baby Laz or to move Lucia out to where he is stationed.
EJ
I also enjoyed all the comments. I have a question. What is it that the guys at the hotel are afraid of with Marina? She worked there I know, and somebody mentioned something about covering up a rape, I think, but who was raped? And what does that have to with Marina? I'm thinking it's not Marina that was raped since she told DamFab she become a woman after being with him, which made me think she was a virgin. Somewhere along the way, I missed something.
That baby is so C.U.T.E. he looks like a little old man. When DamFabDad picked him up for the first time, and the li'l one smiled... oh my heart.
In the early days of La Tempestad, Marina was in some middle management job at the Hotel. Ernesto was a guest and he raped a woman there, I think she was one of the staff. (I could be wrong about that.) Anyway, Marina fought against the Hotel managment to bring the perp (Ernesto) to justice and he spent on night in a Mexican jail. he remarked later that that was the first time any woman ever 'touched' him and he swore eternal revenge on Marina, even though he did not (at that time) know her identity. Marina left DF and Mercedes provided her with the job at Neptune after this incident to protect her and to help an ailing Beatriz.
EJ
One of the hotel guys is the actor who played Sixto, Manuel's lawyer/BFF in Amor Real, one of my two favorite telenovelas. However, he has put on quite a few extra pounds since Amor Real days.
Let me sit back and admire the restraint and the elegant irony here, the deceptive declaratives. ["She glows. Damian notices that she glows."]
And this:
"Damian has never been more beautiful than when he holds the little one who may or may not be his son. "
Or this, which sums up so much in so few words:
"Mercedes tells Marina that (thank God) Damian recovered his son. Marina thinks that it was pretty careless to lose him."
And best of all, the avances:
Who the hell knows?
I'm not sure I agree that with Mercedes "It's all about me." I still find her quite sympathetic and I forgive her a little kvetching. Parents are people who love their children even when they are at their most unlovable; not even the most stoic parents are insensitive to the pain of a child's rejection.
Speaking of Todos los Padres:
Several years ago when I started studying Spanish, I attended a little school in Guatemala where each student sat in a tiny carrel with his or her private teacher. Most people spoke softly, so noise from the conversation of others wasn't a problem. But I remember one student -- an American woman in her 40's -- whose loud outrage interrupted our lesson one day. She had just learned that Spanish used the word padres to mean 'parents' and she was appalled. How sexist!!!
[My teacher and I just looked at each other and tried hard to hold in our giggles.]
Amiga: I was a little hard on Mercedes, I know. Her entitlement irritates me but she is also strong, smart, determined and capable—altogether a pretty admirable woman. I suppose that I want her to give her deeply damaged daughter more time to heal before she despairs of ever winning her love. In real life most folks who had experienced Magdalena's horror of a life would be lucky to survive at all, let alone to become functional and forgiving.
From a parent's perspective, there are few pains as excruciating as the experience of your child rejecting you.
I think the point is moot now; Magdalena will probably have a miraculous return to the light in true telenovela style. She may also develop a fond attachment to Bea. Now wouldn't that be a fine how-do-you-do?
I love your Guatamala Spanish school story. Yes, you guessed my intentions for the title; it was intended to be a tongue in cheek reference to 'All My Children' disguised as 'All the Parents'.
How like you to have known that, dear NM. Your story made me smile.
EJ
Thumbs-up for the baby’s performance. He opened his eyes and smiled right on cue. They should never cut his scenes.
Estercita's "what a dump!" scene was a hoot.
It seems that most of us doubt that Cute Baby is really Damian's son. I shudder to think of Ester's fate if Ernesto discovers that she has passed his son off as Damian's.
Ester is a nicely complex character. She is not very likeable but she has had a rough time, too. Ernesto's character is capable of any atrocity. I really don't want to see Ester hanging from an overpass.
EJ
Thanks for your most marvelous recap and you too Cap'n. I was out of town and just got back.
About the Naval Academy it is a four year college type school with Naval Ethics and Seamanship thrown in, but it's four years of schooling and four years of service eight years total! Most stay and make it a career, and as far as his charm? That will be ratcheted up, those officers have charm and then some ; )
