La Tempestad – Capitulo 64 – Thursday, October 24, 2013 - How Many La Tempestad Sailors Will Fit Into A Vintage Volkswagen Beetle?
Labels: tempestad
I could easily have borrowed the phrse, 'Ivan Sanchez Finds His Inner Jamon' from our clever Novela Maven as an alternate title. Really, Hernan's red-faced rages were almost scary to me. But...they were a little over the top and I always find cold rage to be more frightening.
I have the feeling that in real life Sanchez is a nice guy with a great sense of humor. The kiss he blew Beatriz as he was threatening her and Marina cracked me up.
My recording cut off so I really do not know what is in the avances.
I think this was a 2.5 capitulo episode. I also saw the ad for 'Lo Que La Vida Me Robo', tonight. They said it started in November, no exact date given.
Estercita has now become the most abused major character in the show. (Who knows what the slaves, prostitutes and homeless people have been through)? I feel sad for her story but they have made her utterly unlikeable.
I hope Laura Carmine gets a lead role sometime soon. The actress has real talent.
The Dam/Marina scenes were so sweet in this epi but my favorite scenes involved the capering of Los Muchachos. That group of actors is having a good time filming this show. I would bet money on it.
EJ
Wow! What a Morning Report! That was absolutely fabulous! I don't know how you did it, but Bravo!
Gracias for that recap. I am in awe of your writing skills.
Some lines that Made me LOL were...
"It is well known that Sr. Hernan may have been angry at the wardrobe department for dressing him in swim shorts and a puffy pirate shirt in a delicate shade of apricot-think vintage Seinfeld-but that hardly explains his extreme behavior." (That is one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes)
"HisHeavenlyHotness"
"...looking at El Capitan for very long would give any invalid dry eye syndrome."
What bothered me today about the cut scenes was that I realized that we are getting really close to some critical, intense, and emotional scenes of the story and we as an audience are going to miss out, especially those who do not read this blog. And this is why I love this Blog. I know that you guys will always pull through for us, and keep us up to date on the real story. I don't feel cheated, because I know I can come here and find out everything. And for that I say THANK YOU! to all of you re-cappers! And BOOOOOOO to Uni!
Good Morning & Good Night...
Writing this on iPad so can't write as much as I want, but OM gosh how delicious !
Hernan in swim trunks and a puffy shirt, hysterical!
Now regarding Mr Codependent and mommy dearest- I worked in alcohol treatment for over 20 years and I have never heard of the wrap the umbilical cord around the patient twice treatment, but EJ, until we see the research on it, why would you assume it won't work?
We were usually trying to schedule patients like Mag for Madre-ectomies, but maybe they do it differently in Mexico .
"All have excellent hair", "Mercedes is worried about a relapse for Mags and, hopefully, having a whackjob, no boundaries, unethical codependent roommate won’t hurt a trusting soul like Magdalena one little bit" and "(Let’s just say I would not sell him a high-peso term-life insurance policy anytime soon)had me chuckling out loud. But the highlight for me had to be:" Hernan may have been angry at the wardrobe department for dressing him in swim shorts and a puffy pirate shirt in a delicate shade of apricot—think vintage Seinfeld—but that hardly explains his extreme behavior". Inspired!
Hernan has arrived at crazytown. His descent into madness surprised even the cool, collected Ursula. Thankfully she was there to save Ester who apparently never learned it is best to be quiet and unobtrusive in the midst of a madman's ravings. Ursula (who does seem to have a head on her lovely but evil shoulders) should think about trying to extricate herself from Hernan and quickly. I'm surprised she is letting him manhandle and use her the way he is - I thought she had more sense.
Elna June, agree that Ester's character is pitiful but I can't feel too sorry because as you noted "they have made her utterly unlikeable". Ack.
Loved the scene of Claudio and the crew. What a fun bunch!
I like Tony Vela but find I'm unable to concentrate on his lines due my eyes wandering between his hideous hair and eyeliner. Let's hope he has no need of a wigmaster and gets a better makeup artist for his next TN.
Even though Ester was lurking and overheard Marina was pregnant I was glad Dam came out and told her right away. Now that little tidbit is no longer a secret.
Nareo escapes death's clutches again. Drat!
Like AuntyAnn, I feel gyped that we will not be privy to many of the great scenes that will end up on the cutting room floor. I can't believe this was 2 1/2 episodes Elna June. Why are they rushing this in spite of the great ratings?
Emarie: "We were usually trying to schedule patients like Mag for Madre-ectomies"... Excellent!
Elna June, thank you for making Friday even better.
Happy Friday all!
Diana
By all means! especially the clean underwear. Sad to say, only a woman would think of this. Also loved the "all have great hair" and the puffy apricot shirt riff. Only you, Elna June!
I am on temporary hiatus from telenovelas while I catch up on other work, but recaps are my daily treat. Thanks for adding a little zing...well, MORE than a little zing, uwdaye 128 to my morning!
Wanted to say that I loved the title as well. Brought back warm memories of crazy college days.
I'm pleased (and a bit surprised) that they didn't cut out the Crew & Claudio scenes. ITA they were the best. I laughed hard at their running-across-the-street and cramming into the VW scenes. The interaction between Claudio and the crew was hilarious. I would like to see the outtakes. It was silly, but funny, when Claudio introduced himself as Petrone and Lolo kept calling him Patron.
I laughed at your comment about Macario smearing his eyeliner, "a secret camera placed just above the Lady's crown", "recent demise of two visiting gringos", and "How...nice." Such subtle snark there, my dear.
Of course Hernan's outfit has already been mentioned. Your comment cracked me up because while I watched I wondered if perhaps Sr. Sanchez had pithed off someone in wardrobe. The outfit did make him look crazier somehow.
Great theme! I look forward to hearing more from Elna June Sonoma, Reporter.
I was so happy to see Marina FINALLY tell Dam that she's pregnant. I still don't know why she waited so long, but glad her waiting didn't have any real negative repercussions.
I wish Bea had been awake for Hernan's rant, even if she can't speak right now. I'm glad that she came to the conclusion that Dam is the man for Marina all on her own though.
I was shocked by how far into Crazytown Hernan has gone. Why is Ursula still hanging around? What's her new end game? Surely, she still doesn't want this loony?
Pester is a trip though. Girl has no sense of danger. She sees that Hernan is off his rocker, he nearly chokes her to death, and she still has the ovaries to bitch at him. Wow!
Thanks for this gem.
Thanks so much for this marvelous masterpiece of a recap! It was truly inspired and you would make a fantastic reporter.
I wonder if Ursullied has an agenda? I think she is putting up with BSC(Bat Shit Crazy) Herny for a reason. I had to laugh though when Herny turned his back to Ursully and Ursully make the coocoo sign behind his back. I have to say Ivan Sanchez is really bringing it. He was in La Reina del Sur as a love interest for the lead, and let me tell you he is galan material! This role is so different from his last one.
Poor Pester is the most abused woman on this TN, but I can't feel sorry for her. She is still naïve after being with the Perv. Fully treats Ursully way better than he treats his own flesh and blood. Her constant whining and demands. Yack!
I laughed at the VW scene. It was funny. It reminded me of the "Cinquecento" made by Fiat in Italy. I have seen Italian families cram themselves into these small cars, including Grandmamas and dogs.
Poor Bea, so helpless to have to lie there and listen to BSC Herny rant and rave, what a thing for her to have to go thru, but then again, now she knows for sure what he is really like! I too am glad she came to the conclusion about DamFine. I hope by some miracle she is eventually able to speak and tell Marina what BSC said.
As far as avances go, it looks like Marina has an accident.
I did not like those previews. Will crazy Herny cause Marina's car accident ? I hope still dying Bea did not hear his crazy rant.
I guess Fully treats Ursullied better than Pester because he has some lustful feelings towards Urs. Maybe he is hoping to replace Mayusedtobe with Urs. By the way, I am confused. I didn't think Urs knew who attacked her! Did I miss something?
I'm getting such a kick out of Hernán. After Ursula convinced him to quit choking Estercita, didn't he say something like, "You're right, how about some drinks?"
Sylvia, wasn't Iron Ovaries the name of a sports (rugby?) team that you were on?
When the Dr. told Marina and the others that her mother could hear them but not respond, I was thinking that perhaps she had overheard Hernán's little tirade and am hoping that when he shows up to smarm all over her in front of Marina that we'll at least have the satisfaction of hearing her thought bubble about what a two-faced creep he is.
Carlos
Susanlynn, isn't it hard to keep track of the details with all the chopping of scenes? On Wednesday's episode Robles mentioned to Dam that they had picked up Nereo with overwhelming evidence, but the bad cops gave him an alibi. Dam told Ursula at the hospital to watch out for Nereo and Ursula told Uncle Creepy, er, Fully abou tit.
yikes..The Iron Ovaries...quite an intimidating name for a sports team. If I were on a team! Iron Deficient might be more accurate.
Ahhhhhh..Sylvia...read your last sentence...Freudian Slip ?
As for Carlos's amazing memory...such a good trait for a doctor, no?
You have captured so brilliantly the packaging of the essential and the trivial into a shiny news presentation. And how clever of you to realize how perfectly the formal would fit our story.
[Confession: I was noticing what nice legs the psycho has and not at all worrying about his pirate shirt. Though I did wince when he jumped into the DEATH POOL. ]
Hoping to see more of this reporter,
Love,
NovelaMaven
La tripulación piling into the VW made me think of the clowns piling into a small car at the circus.
Maybe Bea did hear Hernán, people in comas sometimes hear. Lets hope.
Most TNs are so full of filler & repetition like CI & here the cut out important stuff.
I want Ernasty to show up to take care of the baddies, but I fear for Mercedes and Marina/Mag when he returns. Isn't it a shame that just as in real life, bad people cause so much trouble and pain for good folks who just want to live and be happy. At least in novelas, the good guys are rewarded in the end and the bad are punished. So...any thoughts on the anvils and pie carts that are slowly headed toward Ernasty, Fullofit , Crazyherny, Nereo, and Macwigio ??? There can be no redemption for Fullofit, Nereo, and horny Herny , but Pester and Ursullied might be reformed. what are macaroons chances for redemption? The Rumanians say "evil always turns into good." Would that be similar to our proverb "Every cloud has a silver lining?" Do we believe that ?
I very rarely dislike Hernán; even given his Euro-flair fashion. I was laughing so hard last night; but not at his tanned/toned body/legs.
(He truly is) DamLovable delivered once again. William Levy just so brings it to this tn.
Loved the crew scenes. Hope to see more of that.
I'm thinking Beatriz heard what Hernan said, but if that's so, why didn't her unspoken thoughts include any of that?
I would love to see Ursula and Ester team up to take down Hernan. If anybody can do it, it's those two, unless Ursula is holding out hope that there's something good between them. From that smirk on her face, though, I'm thinking she's now playing him.
I haven't seen the episode yet but I look forward to it based on your recap.
Anyway, I'll forget about my comments, except for thank you, Elna June, for your always brilliant recap.
AuntyAnn: So glad you enjoyed the recap. Thanks for coming by so early/late. You are completely right—the flesh of the story has been boiled away; all we are left with is a skeleton, and an incomplete one at that.
I was delighted by the capering of the sailor-boys as it provided me some amusement, but Carlos is completely correct—whenever we see fun and games it is at the expense of the greater story. AuntyAnn, thank you for your kind words. It is a pleasure to have you commenting.
Emarie: First, I bow to your expertise with alcohol rehab. That was never an area of specialty for me in psychology.Your opinions are always very welcomed and perhaps we may have to agree to a friendly agree-to-disagreement on this matter.
I did not cover it well, but it appeared in the scenes that the therapist was already an employee of Mercedes or even HER own therapist. She VOLUNTEERED to have Magdalena as a roommate and they conspired on how Mercedes would recognize her ad in the local 'Roommate Wanted' listings. What I objected to was not a halfway house or semi-safe environment for Mags' recovery and re-entry but the bad boundaries of the therapist in volunteering to become Mags' roommate, and the manipulation and dishonesty of these two well-meaning people. When the therapist referred to her own recovery, I really got annoyed. It is still about HER. Yikes.
In moving into this roommate situation Mags is not really taking a step on her own but is being maneuvered into a situation in which she is not allowed to exercise her judgement and she is being observed if not spied upon in her own new home. The story here is, in my opinion, profoundly dishonest and cannot but undermine the developing relationship between and Mags and Mercedes. Valentin is also going to act as her sponsor
I should add, so she has a bit of a safety net.
I confess, emarie, it pushed some personal buttons. In this country the therapist's dishonest behavior would be considered unethical or at least misguided. This could be a cultural thing or once again, a reference that loving Mothers will do anything to protect and guide their children. I think as you said, the umbilical is being wrapped twice around Magdalena's neck. Not a good thing. Hope this clarifies my opinion.
Hi, Susanlynn.
Hi, Diana: Glad you enjoyed the recap. It is no easy task to make sense??? of what Uni has left on the screen, so I am glad you found the reporter format enjoyable. The closeups of Tony Vela showed the especially heavy black eyeliner under his pretty blue eyes. It was, perhaps, the cosmetic brand, 'Urban Decay', hee hee hee. It is supposed to be very long lasting and Macario will probably need any beauty treatment he can get after Ernesto is finished with him.
JudyB: A temporary break from telenovelas is sometimes necessary to get work done. You would NOT like the escalating violence in this show.
Cap'n Sylvia: I am happy that you enjoyed the recap, my dear, and that you found the snark to be a little subtle. Lately, I am afraid, my irritation at the indiscriminate chopping has made my criticism and little...sarcastic and coarse, shall we say.
Hi, Vivi: Welcome back. It is great to see you home safe and sound. The Ester character has descended into a self destructive spiral, no? She seems to have no sense of self preservation. I still can't see how she could make it out of Ultimas Semanas alive.
La Paloma: so great to see you, and thank you for the great feedback. It is especially gratifying to hear it from a fine recapper such as you. Yes, do enjoy the must see TV. The scenes with the naive sailors trying to run across a freeway were hysterical.
Oh, Mads: I wish I thought Ursula had a plan. I think she is in the center of the hurricane and she still thinks she can make her way out of la tempestad with a bag of gold. I cannot imagine how this clever character could believe herself immune to Hernan's violence.

OT - A True Halloween Story
In a complete aside, I wanted to giggle with the group about the phrase BSC (bat shi# crazy). I first used the phrase here on the forum (as a non-clinical diagnosis of course) in describing Barbara Greco, a villainous character admirably played by Lucero in MEPS.
I remember this clearly because at the time I was living in an old country house on acreage in West Sonoma County that was the home of a colony of Mexican Free Tailed bats. No, I am not joking. That is what they are called.
Every evening at just dusk, hundreds of the furry fliers would emerge from under the eaves and rush out in a whir to get their nightly ration of mosquitoes.
I loved the bats, but we eventually moved when it became clear that the accumulated bat guano in the walls/ceiling of the home was not conducive to human health.
Hernan now appear to be officially BSC.
EJ
I had a long comment disappear just a few minutes ago, as well. Arghh. I think Blogger might be having glitches. Thanks for coming by and for your kind words. So sorry the Blogger ghoul ate your comment.
EJ
Carlos
I just re-read one of your earlier posts. Some how I missed your comment that 'Macario' got turned into 'macaroon' by spell check? Bwahh hah hah belly laugh.
I hope you and yours are doing well.
With a smile,
SJ
Oh, how cool that you got to see a really large colony of the bats. We used to invite friends out onto the deck for a glass of wine and the evening bat departure. We finally decided on cheap plastic rain slickers with hoods as appropriate attire. Umbrellas blocked our view.
Great to see you, amigo. So kind of you to drop by.
EJ
EJ......Glad that IPad's spontaneous revision of Macario's to macaroon's gave you a giggle. It did me , too. As for the family, we are all trying to hang in there. Things are status quo right now. Daughter could only get the bps for one year, and he would not sign it. However, he has not tried to enter the house as he would be arrested. There is another custody hearing in Dec. We are praying that things stay as they are and that he does not get the girls every other week. They are happy and doing well . I guess young children are resilient, and they have lots of people who love them.
I, too, have a bat story...but not a happy one. They have taken up residence in the farmhouse attic. We cannot get rid of them because they are endangered and protected. No one lives in the house. I am not a bat fan.
On the CI I site, I posted something that I recently read in the local newspaper regarding happiness. Some see the glass as half full; some see it as half empty; and others notice that there is a pitcher right there next to the glass!!! I have been contemplating which of our characters in this novela have noticed the pitcher next to his or her glass. What do you think ?
Glad to hear that you and your family are in a (fairly) safe space. So sorry that your bats are not charmers. Is there a humane wild animal service that might relocate the colony? I heard that is what the residents of my former home had done? Just a thought...
Glass Full/Glass Empty, ratings, hmmm, an amusing question:
Marina: Glass half full
Mags: Glass half empty
Damian: Glass half full
Bea: Glass half empty
Becky:Glass half full
Jose: Glass half full
Mercedes: Glass half empty
Estercita: Glass half empty
Delfina: Glass half full
Fully: Glass half empty
Hernan: Too demented to notice that he broke the glass and knocked over the pitcher in one of his recent rages.
Hee, hee. What do you think?
EJ
"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full.
And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me?! This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!"
-- (Terry Pratchett, The Truth)
Nice quote. Buddhists might say that the appearance of the glass was just a reflection of of one's state of mind. They might also note that in Ultimate Reality there is no glass, no pitcher, no water, no drinker and no drinking to be done.
Smile.
EJ
Smile back at you.
You might enjoy this quote (loved your description of Herny's newest outfit).
“The Monks of Cool, whose tiny and exclusive monastery is hidden in a really cool and laid-back valley in the lower Ramtops, have a passing-out test for a novice. He is taken into a room full of all types of clothing and asked: Yo, my son, which of these is the most stylish thing to wear? And the correct answer is: Hey, whatever I select.”
― Terry Pratchett
EJ......I completely agree with your glass scorecard.
I think the the characters who would notice the pitcher are : DamDoItYourself, Mercedes, Tia Becky, definitely Renaissance man Jose, padre, maybe Laz and Jaz. Claudio might very well seeTWO huge
It hers next to his half full glass. Fully, Ernasty, and Herny would probably steal someone else's glass or pitcher. Nereo would knock over his glass and wind up with an empty glass. Marina would smile sweetly and Mag would scowl , and neither would notice the pitcher. Pester would be so busy complaining to everyone about her half empty glass that she would never notice the pitcher. Ursullied might try to seduce some guy into pouring the pitcher contents into her glass. The crew would not only see the pitcher but share it. Fun.
vita:
Just where is this tiny and really cool valley where dwell the Monks of Cool? I am not sure if I am cool enough to join them for a year or two of silence, but they sound like a FUN group!
I enjoy your Haiku. I am a sometimes poet myself.
EJ
I didn't know you were the one that first used BSC, so cool! I always saw it all over the board and I never knew what it meant until someone explained it to me. Ever since I have been using it on anyone that is craycray. Thanks! And loved your bat story : )
The Monks of Cool dwell on Discworld. :)For real. :) :)
Susanlynn, I too loved your glass/pitcher classification.
You are so right about Ursullied. Which reminds me...
“Nanny Ogg looked under her bed in case there was a man there. Well, you never knew your luck.”
― Terry Pratchett
No more quotes, promise.
@VarioP: people in comas OFTEN hear. I used to be a nurse, and once in the ICU a gal woke up and said. "I heard everything" ( We had often whispered at the foot of her bed.) This was the object lesson they tried to drill us in nursing school and the one that doctors typically do not get in med school. So I have a hunch that Bea will spill the beans to somebody before she totally craps out for good.
@Carlos, you crack me up, as usual: "(I counted about a zillion give or take a couple of hundred)"
Thank you, thank you thankyou all. Can't wait for tonight ( I *did* see the avances)
—Agnes in NJ
The therapist at the rehab was totally inappropriately overly involved. And setting them (Mercedes and Mag) up as roommates is just beyond bizarre. Them living in the same house like before as a family, ok, but as buddies??? Don't get the storyline at all.
I noticed you slipped onto the Patio the other night and left before we could give you a proper welcome home. Well let me say it now -- Welcome to what we like to think of as civilización! Don't be a desconocida!
I do not see our new recap posted yet so this is a late posting on Saturday PM.
Emarie: You are right the storyline makes no sense at all. I'll try to explain it as I understand it:
1. In rehab, Mags received a sponsor/godfather/therapist in the excellent looking Valentin. As you said, he was WAY too involved in her treatment.
2. After Mercedes picks mags up at rehab and brings her home Mags asks if Valentin can come over for dinner.
3. Later on, at dinner, Mags broaches the idea that shw would like to live on her own.
4. Valentin overrules Mercedes' resistance to this idea and says he thinks it is important for mags to try to fly solo.
4. Mercedes reluctantly agrees.
5 Soon , with no segue or explanation, we see Mercedes visiting an unknown woman therapist (NOT Valentin) in an office. They are discussing Mags' program and Mercedes says that she is frightened to allow Mags to live alone for fear of her relapsing.
6. Unknown woman Therapist (UWT) volunteers to help Mercedes by having Mags as her roommate. UWT also says that she already works for Mercedes. This is not explained.
7. Mercedes and UWT agree that UWT will place an ad in the local want ads asking for a roommate and that Mercedes will recognize the ad by some special wording, something like "cosy household'.
I hope that helps a little. They are cutting out SO much now that I have no idea what else we may have missed.Perhaps UWT was introduced while Mags was in rehab, maybe she is another of Mercy's reform projects (that is implied). Either way UWT and Mercedes are not bein honest with Mags and are manipulating her. If you get a chance to watch these chopped epis when you get bac you will see what I mean.
The new roommate situation has nothing to do with Valentin.
I think Mercedes' meddling imperils her relationship with her very suspicious daughter.
They are making such a hash of this thing but I hope that this explanation makes the whole thing a little clearer, like mud. Smile.
