Mentir Para Vivir #10 Fri 10/18/13 New-Nes Confesses; Ric Eyes the Possible Male Competition; Padre Plaid Prays for Guidance

Capítulo 10

Lo Del Pasado:
At the hospital Oriana breaks down and confesses the real story to Padre Mariano.  She was looking for shelter from her deceitful, scruple-less, and criminal hubby and the misguided long arm of the Columbian law; not to mention that she only meant to bring a bit of happiness into the old lady’s lonely life.  He advises her against telling the truth to Doña Paloma for fear the emotional shock of True-nes’s washing up on the shore like a dead tuna post-deadly overdose would be too much for her.

Lo Del Nuevo:

While Padre Plaid (having actually changed into a red stripy something now) is chatting with New-nes, Cesar and Racquel show up in the waiting area to check on things.  Ric sees another opportunity to snooker information about NewNes’s past and any possible link to his dead daddy’s murder.   He immediately starts giving Raqi the third degree.  (Word up, Ric: don’t try snookering a snookerer.)  Raqi’s way ahead of him here.  Nope, she’s got no idea what Padre Red Stripes and Ines discussed that morning that supposedly set her off since they’re really not friends as such; and nope, she’s not aware of any long distance phone calls to her hotel—except (once he mentions that he paid the last phone bill for Ines) the time she was calling about some little cheap stuff she left in the room and a hairbrush which they’d given to Santos for the DNA test.  “—it turned out positive, didn’t it?”  Yeah it was positive, he replies, still mentally sifting her answer for a crack in her alibi.    So then what’s your problem, asks Raqi with another sparkling crocodile smile of hers.  (Chomp!)

Raq finds a corner in another part of the hospital to place a call to Lucina.  She tells her she suspects that Oriana spilled the beans to the padre and that if she did their complicit ass is mown grass.  Lucina does a quick mental tally and goes for the little pistol that Lucina was holding when Oriana found Gabe doing the dead-man’s float in their pool.  Should the good padre decide to accuse Oriana of murder, this will be the ultimate ace up their sleeve.  In the meantime, she’s going to close the sale on the hotel that day and will be on her way to Hermosillo ASAPP.

Back at the manse, Tito and Lina are passed out on Paloma’s bed.  She takes a call from Santos and learns that New-nes has never been registered in any of the colleges around there in Monterrey.  Paloma thanks him and settles out her account with him.

In the hospital lounge once more, Ric questions Mariano about whether Ines gave a reason gave for being out so late at night. No, says Mariano and he leaves.   New-nes’s white knight is still sitting in the lounge with them.  He tells them that since Oriana’s doing fine now that he’s going to call it a night.  He then asks for permission to come visit her later on.  Raq jumps in with a big yes indeedy.  The guy says thanks and heads off.  Ric looks at her like who the hell asked you?  She quickly declares that if the guy hadn’t saved Ines who knows what could have happened, right? Ric, disgusted, leaves to give a quick call to Paloma to update her.

Raqi tries making small talk with Mariano next.  She asks him what Ines and he chatted about.  Padre Patterns dodges Miss Nosy’s prying question with a shrewd “nothing you don’t already know”.  That went well—not.  Her crocodile smile does a partial 180.  When Cesar suggests they offer a prayer of thanks in the chapel she does a mental eye roll and takes a pass.

Back at Paloma Central, Mathilde checks in on Paloma and learns that New Nes is gonna be fine.   Undoubtedly endearing Maddie is cursing under her breath as she offers to put Lina to bed and to kick carry Tito outside for the night.  (Anybody ever considered building a doghouse out in that humongous yard of hers?)  During their chat Madhilde comments that only a crazy woman would walk through a park late at night like that.  (I’d call it sh!t for brains, but that’s jes’ me.)  Just then a caravan of expensive cars drives up to the outer gates where the entire effing staff is standing to greet them like they were the British royals or something.  New-nes is greeted and taken inside.

Once inside, Ric corners Padre Mariano and demands the truth about his conversation with New-nes, supposing it wasn’t a sanctified confession.  It wasn’t, says Mariano, but if Ric after all these years hasn’t had the nerve to tell the truth to Sebastian, then he’s got no place to talk and he might be cognizant of the extent to which another parent might go to protect a child!  Ric takes a minute to process as Padre Patterns exits stage right.

Paloma confesses her fright to New-nes and has her promise never to do something so thoughtless again.  Oriana eventually is alone again and cries, totally overwrought as a prisoner in golden handcuffs.

In another part of the manse, Mad hilde and hubby grouse over the real reason New-nes would be out so late in the park.  Her best guess is that she was waiting for her lover who is probably Lina’s baby-daddy. Hubby tells her she’s got an overactive imagination.

At the same time, Mariano prays for direction and worries that if he tells the truth he causes grief and tragedy for both Paloma and Oriana and those around them; on the other hand, if he doesn’t he knows he is complicit in a crime.

The next day at Ric’s aunt’s place, they’re having coffee. Tía de Ric says to him and Redheaded Babe (another blood cousin?) that it’s odd Paloma hasn’t held a dinner party to introduce Ines to her friends.  Perhaps, though, she adds it’s a matter of her being ill-mannered, coarse, and uneducated or something.  Ric says that’s not the reason because Ines is anything but; she’s a true sophisticate. Hmmm.  Sounds like he’s got a crush on her.  Ric excuses himself.  On his way out Sebastian grabs him to ask when he’s getting his portion of the company stock so he can hurry up and sell it.  Sebastard is told to wait till Lila makes it over and they will take care of it then.

Red tells Sebastard that Ric’s upset about that Ines woman.  Oh, she’s not just that Ines!  She’s Dona Paloma’s heiress and if Ric plays his cards right he will end up being the owner of the whole empire!  Tía has to admit to Red a bit later that New-nes is a heck of a good catch and marrying her would be a fantabulous corporate merger. So might as well forget about Ric if he’s falling in love with New-nes.  Not to worry, though, says Tía.  She will work her matchmaking wiles on somebody else for Red.

Back in Oriana’s bedroom, Raqi is putting the emotional blackmail screws to Oriana.  Of course it’s too late as far as Padre Mariano is concerned.  Oriana crosses her fingers and toes and swears that she told him nothing.  Well, can you imagine the hurt and shock to that sweet little old lady to find out that her real granddaughter is dead and she’s nothing but an impostor, observes Raquel emphatically with a semblance of deep concern.   Oriana asks if Raqi has any idea how badly she feels.  Oh, of course!  They had no idea things would become so involved and complicated when Lucina and she went to the trouble of fixing that passport to hide her identity.  For no reason can Oriana tell anybody—not even think it!   (Too late, toots, but well, Oriana apparently isn’t counting her non-confessional confession to the padre.)  No, Oriana agrees, she wouldn’t dream of it!  “--And, BTW, thanks for having been such a great friend!”

Outside on the patio at breakfast, Paloma mentions to Raqi that she’s learned New-nes hadn’t been registered in any Monterrey colleges, but Ricardo says she seems to have had a formal education and instruction somewhere.  Raqi suggests it was a made up life to hide the nasty truth and that somebody probably taught her a few things.  Best not to mention a word of this to her, suggests Raquel and Paloma agrees.

After breakfast Raq mentions to Oriana what the old lady brought up at breakfast to her; she explains to  her it was Cesar who told the others he thought she must have been to college.  “--Be prepared to be hit with that and have a story ready to tell them when it does.”  Ric appears suddenly.  Greets the two of them and goes inside to see Paloma.  Raqi tells Oriana she’s dying to see him naked again—a snide way of reminding her they slept together.  She comments that she’ll stick by Oriana through thick and thin, but warns the only thing she won’t accept is for Oriana to get involved with Ric.

Upstairs, Ric is again like a dog with a bone.  He won’t give it up and wants answers from Paloma.  Did Ines really go college somewhere and what was she doing alone that time of night in the park?????  Paloma lies about New-nes being registered at some school in Monterrey, and as for the walk in the park –well, she’s old enough to do what she wants whenever she wants.  She warns him again to leave it be and not to go nosing around in her granddaughter’s past life or to offend her in any way.  (Yeah, it’s getting’ pretty old to me, too.)  On the way out the door he mentions there’s a meeting with the lawyer to divvy up his father’s shares in the business.  He wants Paloma there.  Paloma says she’ll send Ines there in her place since she’s going to be inheriting her shares and that she’s setting up an appointment with the lawyer to change her will to include Ines in it.

A bit later, Paloma gives New-nes a box full of her choicest jewelry and then mentions the change in her will and her wanting Ines to go to the shareholders’ meeting with Ric in her place from now on.  She gets a bit maudlin and tells her that life and death are pretty much both sides of the same coin and tells the picture of her daughter above the bed again that she’s sorry for having been a coward.

At the same time Ric has found Mariano and re-emphasizes that he’s got to know more about New-nes.  Mariano asks if he doesn’t still think she’s a really decent person.  Sure, but still he has his doubts and thinks she very well may not be the real thing. Mariano brings up the old religious saw about casting the first stone.  Ric explains then that he’s really starting to feel something special for her and that he’s even gone as far as to take her to meet Maria, but he’s gotten nothing in return.  When a person feels that serious about another it makes you so eager to learn everything about them, Ric adds.  Mariano tells him then he’s got to trust in the loved one and, more than a bit hot under the ecclesiastical collar, he gruffly excuses himself, saying he’s got things to do!

Back at the manse again, Raquel comes for a mid morning chat with Paloma.  Paloma asks her if New-nes’s husband and/or male companion is really dead, or if he’s still alive and she had to run away from him.  She’d mentioned the man had made her suffer, she explains.  Raq lies about really not being close enough to know anything one way or the other.  Well, she was curious, replies Paloma because it seemed that Ricardo was becoming extremely fond of Ines.  Raqi’s eyes register wild fury, but only momentarily.  She handily turns the conversation around to the way she and Lucina worked to get her in touch with her family and fortune after not having two centavos to rub together before and their needing 3 million pesos still after selling their hotel in order to buy the new bed and breakfast in Hermosillo so that Paloma readily offers to loan them the amount herself, interest free.

New-nes calls Ric at the office to say she’s going to have to take a couple of personal days from work.  He asks if he can come by for visits and she says sure thing.  She then asks for Mariano’s phone number since this is a new cell phone and the other was stolen and to thank him for all his attention.  FF>>

Raqi calls Lucina with the great news about the money and suggests that rather than staying at a hotel when she comes to Hermosillo, she might as well stay with her at Paloma’s since there’s oodles of room, especially now that she’s got an ‘in’ with the old gal.

Lucina tells Felipe her plans and asks him to move to Hermosillo to run things there for her as well.  There’s only one catch: keep mum about anything that’s gone on at the hotel recently, especially about Oriana since her grandmother is the one loaning the money they need to buy the new hotel there.  No problema.

That night Ric calls Mariano and invites him to dinner.  Padre is still ticked at him and isn’t pleased at all when Ric asks if he’d heard from Ines and what she wanted.   You’re wasting your time if you think I’m going to give you a play by play of our conversations, he tells Ric.  Click.  Ric, should be getting very tired by now of banging his head against this particular brick wall.

The next day Piero mentions to Antonio that Maria has been running away and that the last time he went with Ric to see about it she seemed to recognize him.  Antonio isn’t worried though.  "Everybody thinks she’s crazy and won’t bother to believe a thing she says."  Peero is still upset  He complains to Antonio that he’s carried the weight on his shoulders for years.  The fact is that either of the two of them could be Sebastard’s daddy and if it weren’t that Ric was so worked up and distracted about his daddy’s death, he might have realized by now.  Antonio scoffs and says they were all three of them there that night.  Peero says hey, Ric was so drunk that night there was no way it could have been him and he knows it.  Antonio loses patience and says he could care less and besides Ric took the responsibility and that’s that.  Peero’s pissed because he knew that Maria wasn’t aware of what she was doing.  Doesn’t that weigh on Antonio’s conscience?  Tough nutz says Antonio.  Sebastian lives like a king and Maria gets a monthly stipend.  Even if the kid was his he could care less and wants nothing to do with him.  Period.

Oriana finds Padre Windowpane Checks and tells him what Paloma’s plans for her are; she complains that she hates the idea of having to accept those things when there are family members who obviously have more rights to Paloma’s riches than she does.   No way can she tell her the truth and break the old woman’s heart, not to mention that Ric will hate her guts when he finds out.  Well she has two choices, he tells her: either tell the truth and face the consequences, or accept the situation and once Paloma dies, give over the inheritance to the others.  He’d rather she accept her life as it is now since he thinks it’s the will of Dios that she’s been brought there.  She can give the old woman a bit of happiness.  Sometimes little white lies are a good thing, he says, though as a priest he cannot support that train of thought.  Accept her circumstances as some sort of divine respite he advises.  Use the wealth and power to do good rather than evil, he continues.  Once Paloma is gone, she’ll know what to do.  (Works for me!)

Comments:
And if you mean by the new competition the hero who save her, I'd have to say he is quite the hawt licenciado. I hope he figures to be more prominent in this story in the future.

I give kudos to Raquel for some incredibly quick thinking. When asked if she and Ines weren't great friends why did they call each other after she left, she said that she called about some belongings she left at the villa. That set Ricardo back on his heels right away.
And the other example was when Paloma asked her about there being no evidence of her going to school in Monterrey, Raquel said maybe she wanted to make up a past since her the real past wasn't so great. Now I need to rethink the cunning of this character. Lucinda seems to be just as good thinking on her feet by bringing the gun with her in case it will be needed in the future.

Can't wait for your take, Jardinera! I am having SO much fun with this novela!

Fatima

New guy Osvaldo de León was cute in Una familia con suerte even with a goofy haircut. looking forward to his performance.
I want the doberman to be introduced to Mathilde. Those dogs look so menacing, but the 2 I have known were pussy cats.

I'm intrigued with the painting behind Ricardo's desk. I see bodies on a raft. Cortez or Cuban rafters? Anyone know?

I too noticed the hottie w/ the doberman. hmmmmm

Variopinta:

The painting is very famous. It is "The raft of the Medusa" by Theodore Gericault. Search in google!37

Tks AlejoP

So many knowledgeable Carayites, I knew someone would know. Sounds like the ship captain was France's Francesco Schettino, Costa Concordia fame.

Sorry gang. It's going to be up tonight since I have had all sorts of unexpected Hell here.

Things happen, Jardinera. It sounds like you are in the thick of things. I'm sorry to hear that you will have to have a beloved pet put down. This is never easy.

We will gladly wait for you. :)Not to worry.

Fatima

Thanks, Fatima. It's up now. HOpe it's at least readable. /: > )

Jardimera-great recap. If you ever feel too busy to do a recap-I'll be glad to be a backup. You are certainly doing a lot. And putting a beloved pet down is nothing small. My condolences by the way.

I'm watching this one closely and I'm more interested in how the whole Orianez thing collapses than the love story between Ric New-Nes. I still think it'll turn out that Oriana is Paloma's nieta-Oriana looks too much like Polomita for that to not be the case, and we
know nothing about Oriana's family.

I'm loving how PPP is now complicit in Orianez's lie and is running interference for her wrt Ric. I don't think PPPwill keep te farce up for long because ric is his best friend and if Ric falls deeper in love with Oriana, PPP is gonna crumble.

I'm wondering if Abu Paloma knows New-Nes is lying about who she is, but she trusts her enough and loves Lina enough to leave her money to her. She settled with Santos after hearing the Monterrey story was a lie, as if she'd rather live the lie than face the truth, as Mariano argued.

Gracias Jar, fantastic as always.

Is that really how a padre would react to the fact that someone supposedly killed someone? He is not even smart, the truth is bound to come out.

Well I guess we know Antonio is Sebastian's dad since they are both bastardos.

If Lucina & Raquel both own Descanso en Paz hotel, don't they both have to sign for the sale? Now where is my beanie?

Excellent, Jardinera, and quite readable and very enjoyable. I certainly hope that all is well with you.

I realize that we should begin disliking and distrusting Raquel, but that sly smile makes it impossible for me to not like her. I'm afraid that she's gonna have to kill somebody to lose me. So far there's not anyone I really dislike a lot. Even Sebastian has a bit of charm and Matilde always is fascinating to watch. In fact right now she and Tito are my favorite couple.

Carlos

Carlos
I want Mathilde & the doberman to be a couple, or at least 1/2 of a couple.

Great job Jardinera. I know how it is to have stuff happen at the last minute when you have a recap still to do. So thank you for persevering.

The way I thought the big reveal would play out was that the padre tells Paloma the truth about Ines, then convinces her to play along with the story in order to help Oriana out of her mess and even get Santos to help investigate to clear her name. And perhaps during the investigation, Santos finds out the Oriana is actually related to Paloma, but Oriana doesn't know it. Remember, that portrait of Paloma's daughter who looks so much like Oriana. But it looks like that isn't happening, at least yet. And to make it clear, I am only guessing on this, I have no idea what will happen.

Carlos, so co-sign with you on Raquel-she's trifling, but I can't dislike her yet. She has helped Orianez a lot and she isn't malicious. She's just confused, and refuses to see that Oriana or no, Ric isn't interested. It's a TN rule. A woman who chases a man will be disappointed because men like to chase.
All the characters in this have great chemistry. They just gel.

Oh, Cathyx, I love your scenario about the reveal about Ines' identity. It's interesting enough and would involve all the characters.

J desde NYC: Welcome to my portion of the blogging week!
====
Carlos: I give you an A+ in chivalry. I finally had a chance to proof read the thing. -- Actually, I find Raquel an intriguing personality. She's not truly evil so I can excuse her jealousy. It hasn't moved her to do anything devilish yet, at least...... Those halter tops and midriff numbers do take me back about 40 years.
=====

Vario/Carlos: I'd like to see Mad Hilde just try getting rid of that doberman of Osvoldo's!! Tito would be tittering his tiny hiny off.

I wondered the same thing about both of the women signing the papers for that hotel at the closing. She could fax her signature? Friolito lindo.....
====
Cathyx: you may have stumbled onto a great plot point for the future reveal!! Why else would that picture over the bed look so much like Oriana?

BTW y'all, thanks for your patience! And, most of the typos and what not should be fixed by now. : ? ))

Mil gracias, Jardinera! I know tomorrow will be a rough day for you. We will be thinking of you.

Raquel makes me laugh. Not only does she invite herself to partake of all of the goodies at Auntie Em's (Paloma), she invites Lucina as well with not even a thought to asking if it is OK. I guess she figures the one romp in the sack with Little Ricky makes her a part of the family. :)

Variopinta, I, too, thought the other day that the likely culprit for being SabeNada's father was taht slime Antonio. They are like peas in a pod. I can't wait for that anvil to fall!!

Cathyx, I like your scenario. Sounds good to me!

May I say again just how much I love that little Tito! He is one cool dude. He could even be in a Budweiser commercial!!

I am loving every episode. No disappointments and with only tiny twitches of the ole beanie.

Fatima

Jardinera thanks so much for this recap. I'm also sorry I haven't had the chance to thank you for your work over at CI. I have gotten behind and well you know how that tn is going. So sorry about your dog; a cyberhug for you and your family.

Add me to the list of those who are enjoying this show. Finding out Oriana's real identity is going to be interesting. Cathyx I like your script!

Variopinta - thanks for mentioning Antonio's parenthood status. Though I missed that part, I believe he'll be the dad b/c he's such a jerk (see the family resemblance) and has no desire to have a child.

Sebastian is definitely Antonio's child. They both act like insensitive jerks. However, I hope he's Pierro's just so that when the secret comes out, he'll have a father that at least cares about him. Pierro looks like the type who would apologize for his cowardice on the issue and help Sebas grow up. Having Antonio as a dad who doesn't care to be a dad would be mentally awful for Sebas, especially knowing his mother is a bit loco, too. In Maria's flashback of Antonio and Pierro, it seems pierro was in love with her, but she liked Ric more.

Some odds 'n ends:

I laughed when the interior color of the hospital was BLUE!!

I also got a kick of out Raquel waltzing into the Abuela's room and making a forceful argument for why she needed money wearing that (lovely on her!) outfit. Could the pants have gotten any lower on the hips? :)

I think there is much, much more to Lucina and Raquel than meets the eye.

I also think that in one brief moment (you could see it on her face)that Abuela has Raquel's number. Abuela is no fool.

Fatima

Jardinera, thank you for the wonderful recap. Hermosilla is a very busy place!

I'm so sorry to hear about your beloved pet. A virtual hug for you, amiga.

Jardinera - Always a pleasure to read your fab storytelling. I'm so sorry about your pet. My condolences to you and your family.

I know Oriana was a upset, but it was strange for her to be in a park alone at night. When she got attacked, I was afraid Ricardo and Paloma might've thought she'd gotten smacked around by her old pimp.

Carlos - ITA "Even Sebastian has a bit of charm". So far I see him as just a bratty self-centered kid. I thought he was kind of cute twirling around in Paloma's wheelchair like a 9-year-old. He seems to save his real rudeness for Ricardo.

Great recap as usual. Sorry to hear of your ordeal. I agree that Ric's obsession with Oriana's past is getting old.

My favorite line "Oriana's eventually is alone again and cries, totally overwrought as a prisoner in golden handcuffs.

One other odds 'n ends: I am thoroughly enjoying the actress playing Abuela Paloma. I love her smile. She has a nice wig which suits her. She is elegant. She is thoughtful, kind, and loving. The kind of abuela everyone should have.

What I really like about the actress is that she doesn't seem plastic (literally) and is an example of a mature and lovely woman who, from all appearances, does not seem to have had "work" done to her face.

For some reason, this really struck me a few days ago as I have watched reruns of "Soy Tu Duena" and have read the old recaps and comments. The very famous actriz who plays the tia in that TN (I think)appears to have a very stretched looking face a la Joan Rivers.

Adriana Roel just looks lovely and I find her looks to be very refreshing which adds to the believability of the character she portrays.

Anywho, just another thought that struck me this past week.

Fatima

Fatima, oh gosh yes, on Abuela Paloma. Her face is almost beatific. She has a real elegance and kindness about her, and she definitely had no work done. She looks like a great grandmother. She's so believe able with Oriana and Lina. But she's no fool either. She never tells Matilde her business unless it's necessary. She didn't talk about looking for and finding Ines until the deed was done. And I think she has Raquel's number.

I'm also very glad Paloma was the one who told Raquel that Ric was the one interested in New-Nes and not the other way around. This lets her know, Ric is the one chasing New-Nes and so her rivalry with Oriana is silly.

A belated thank you for the recap, Jardinera. This weekend has been crazy for me.

I don't believe Raquel tricked Paloma either, I think the old lady has decided to keep Raquel close to her to be prepared for whatever her agenda might be down the line.
I also like the fact that so far Raquel hasn't been all bad, too.

I have a different perspective on her calling dibs on Ricardo.
I know this is a tn and the protas are supposed to fall in love, but if I were Raquel I would be upset with Oriana, too. I wouldn't be so in her face about it, and I would probably give up once I'm sure the guy is not interested, but Raquel's reaction seems normal to me, and this being a tn, they had to upgrade her crazy a bit.

Did we get a glimpse of Padre Plaid dressed as a normal priest should be dressed, when Ricardo was trying to find out what he talked with Ines??? I have to admit, he's not that fun in black...

Inspired, as always, Jardinera. I have a mental image of you going about your business and suddenly yelling "Eureka", as you think of another funny name for one of our characters. Padre's shirts are such a gift to the creative mind. Excellent work with Ines and Mathilde as well.

Many good wishes to you and your family. I am so sorry that this is happening.

There's another thing that makes these characters more believable to me. When the characters are by themselves, they show them actually doing something and not just sitting staring off into space, or sitting thinking. If humans sit and think, it's usually when they are doing something. Paloma has been reading a book and playing solitaire on the computer. Ruben was actually watching TV! I've never seen that before in a TN. Oriana was in her room on her bed reading a book when someone called her. It's like they are normal people living normal lives.

Thanks again, everyone, for your kind wishes regarding my elderly pet.

NieceMD

"she'd gotten smacked around by her old pimp" --Yep, I kept thinking we need to take bets on how long it is before Ric accuses her of going there to look for johns!
=====

Karen--Yes and no problem. ITA with you and Variopinta that Antonio is Sebastardo's baby daddy, birds of a feather and all that stuff.

=====
Capn Sylvia: It is bound to get a lot busier once lively Lucinda moves the whole gang there permanently and Doberman Dude starts making tracks to Paloma's palace to visit New-nes.

Fatima/J desdeNYC: I think Paloma is naturally generous to those she feels deserves it; she may see that the 3 million pesos is little reward for their having aided her in "getting her granddaughter back" in her life. However, Paloma may also consider Raqi shrewd and the money well-invested.
=====

Foxy: Oriana is a prisoner in that palatial "refuge" as Mariano so termed it. I saw his advice to her at the end as a refreshing and worthy priestly response which flies totally in the face of telenovela logic and formulaic nonsense.

======
Travelling Lady, you are not totally off track when it comes to some of these crazies with long, overused and/or hard to spell names. My pencils have oodles of teeth marks! LOL.
======

Adriana: I am glad you managed to come up for air and join us this weekend! You've been a busy bee, amiga.

Jardinera:

Thank you so much for this splendid recap among your most hectic weekend and I too offer my condolences to you and your family about your pet.

I really like watching Ricky and his conflicting emotions. He is a truly interesting character. I like DZ as a baddie, but this galan role for him is great.

Poor Orines. She gets in deeper every day it seems. I am glad she confessed to Padrewhateverhisshirtistoday! I am also glad he isn't spilling the beans. I want Orines, at some point, to tell all to Ricky herself.

I too think that Orines is a long lost granddaughter of Paloma. That picture they keep showing. I am really liking Paloma too. Such a sweet woman, but she does have a brain and I too think she has figured Raquel out. I also like the actress portraying Paloma. She reminds me of the character of Carlotta from LFDD. She was much like Paloma.

Thanks again Jardinera!

J desde NYC, really like the points you've made. ITA. I love it when Abuela Paloma tells goofy Matilde only what she needs to know and that ain't much either! I liked the way Paloma rolled her eyes at Matilde when Matilde walked away. I especially like that Paloma shuts down every attempt Matilde makes at criticizing Orines.

Adriana Noel, ITA with your points re Paloma/Raquel. Our Paloma is a smart woman. Paloma had it figured out in a few minutes why Raquel was really visiting her. As for Padre, you are right! He was wearing black right there at the very end. I did a double take!! :)

Jardinera, yes, I am sure that Paloma sees Raquel's shrewdness (keeping all of the meanings of that word in mind). Especially agree with you re your observations of our Padre. He thinks. He listens. He gives honest to goodness good advice and doesn't have his head in the sand. I like this Padre very much.

cathyx, ITA with you, too! Not only did seeing Orines reading a book in her room bring a really believable point to the action, but I was also interested in the book she was reading! I'm blanking on it, now, but I wondered why they chose that book, in particular. Who knows, maybe I'm reading too much into things, but that little scene of her reading the book gave us more insight into Orines.

I am actually enjoying seeing the episodes twice. I am thoroughly enjoying all of the characters as it almost feels like I am reading a good book.

Fatima

If nothing else, tho' I don't remember the exact title--just that it seemed to be a biographical work of a well known ancient somebody--shows that she's not an airhead. Why do people like Ric seem to think that just because somebody turned tricks for a while that they couldn't be highly intelligent and have a yen to leave the street (i.e., Irasema) and get some real "book-learning" whether on their own or formally? Social prejudice here rather than gender since Paloma had the same idea.

Is anyone watching this show (or the other primetime telenovelas) on the Dish satellite system with the CC3 English captions?

On Dish network, the captions don't start appearing right away. They take about 30 seconds to appear, which makes fast forwarding through commercials or flipping to other channels risky. When you flip back to the Univision telenovela, you have to wait about 30 seconds before the English captions appear. I do not notice any delay in appearance of English captions on other channels.

Please let me know if any of you has a solution so that I do not have to experience this annoying 30 second delay in CC3 caption service.

Jardinera,

I've been in and out all weekend so I will have to decline to comment on this episode. Will catch up by Wednesday.
