Mentir Para Vivir #15 Fri 10/25/13 Love and Hate, All On a Slow Burn
Labels: mentir
The last scene was interesting. Oriana was definitely in charge.
As for Ricardo and Mariano and their quest for truth: Does anyone else find the gym as part of the rectory odd? I thought the scene earlier this week with the two of them, that is Ricardo and Mariano, huffing way while chatting about Ines was about as odd as it gets in novelaland.i
I really enjoyed the love scene and how Oriana took equal control. I also like the love song that accompanied the love scene-- something about fuego lento. Indeed. Rick giving his butler that look to get the heck out so that he could go into full player mode was funny.
It seems that in order to be able to clear Oriana for the murder, they first have to clear her for the fraud in Colombia. Of course, as Rick mentioned, they could also find the murder weapon. If they found it in the possession of the real killer, that would also clear Oriana (and Lina) of the murder. But can the Inez truth come out without killing Paloma?
I was wondering about the Raquel-Sebastian love scene - how much did they actually show last night? From the recap I couldn't actually tell.
I really paid attention because I know Univision tends to cut these scenes short - I watch on line and for me it looked like a rather long scene... with Raquel being shown at the end not enjoying Seba's love making skills AT ALL!!
How about that Ricardo, Oriana practically had to beg for it :)) Smart guy!
Great ending of the episode and the perfect way to start my recap on Monday, Ricardo & Oriana's first love scene - muahaha!!
Oriana was ready to partayyyyyy for damn sure. I don't think she cared whether Ric's intentions were honorable or not. Je-je-je.

ViviDC: Great to have you back safe and sound. Interesting pictures and so glad you had such a great time! Going is fun. Coming back is just such a drag.
As for Columbia and the smuggling, I suppose they have to find a way to clear her name, like putting the horse and cart together in proper order, so that she won't be extradited when her name is cleared for the murder.
=====
Vivi/AdrianaNoel: The song made me think of "A Man With A Slow Hand" by the Pointer Sisters. The title sort of came from that and "fuego lento". I just double checked Word Reference and I guess our instinctive turn of phrase was on target, amiga:
"a fuego lento"= slow cooked, over low heat,
on a slow burn
Yep, AdrianaNoel You will have something steamy to dish out to us on Monday!
That Sebastian's got a big "L" on his forehead and he doesn't even know it. OMG, asking if he was better in the sack than Ricardo? That was hilarious.
Clearly Ricardo has an, um, effect on the ladies.
The recap title is terrific.
Traveling Lady the gym/rectory (one of our recappers combined the two in Spanish very wittily) is odd to me. But I do enjoy the priest being shown as down to earth and interacting with others.
Vivi - thanks for mapping out Oriana's drama. I knew the stuff in Mexico has to be cleared up but wasn't sure where/how the supposed embezzlement in Colombia will pan out.
I'm also wondering how Oriana will somehow become related to Paloma. Because of the pic, I guess we are to believe that perhaps Oriana's mom had twins. Someone probably grabbed Oriana and left Inez with her mother or perhaps someone sold Oriana?
Adriana - as Jardinera said, our Uni broadcast cut out Rachel's reaction to Sebanada though it was such a brain bleach moment for me I tried not to watch.
I don't understand how Rachel can keep on complaining about her "friend" when she just slept with the boy she believes is his son. As Carlos noted the other day, there is such an ick factor there I'm left speechless.
Raq is not a true friend to anyone, I bet she turns on Lucina also. She is just a selfish, self centered brat.
Sebastian was just a true 18 yr old, how was I???? He needs to watch love scenes in Amor Real & Alborada.
On the first night of the TN, Oriana was preparing a hot noche with her husband, but then her whole world turned upside down. So months later, taking charge with Ricardo must've been a big release, among other things.
I got a gay vibe from Berto when he asked Piero in the bar if he was married, but maybe that's just me.
Sorry to see Raquel go skank. Anyone could see Sabes would be lousy. Maybe she thought the thrill of getting even with Ricardo through his son would do it for her. Poor thing.
I think that they wanted to provide a place that 2 men could hang out together and talk and not have it be weird. Men don't usually get together only to talk with each other, and since one of the men is a priest, they can't exactly go to a bar and hang out together, so they came up with a gym. And we get the added benefit of a half naked hunk to enjoy too.
Niecie, I got that gay vibe too, in fact, I thought he was going to hit on Piero at the bar.
We'll know soon enough how good Sebastian was by seeing if Raquel sleeps with him again. But it was hilarious that he wanted to know how good he was and how he compared to daddy. Another indication that he's young and insecure.
My Spanish word a day was inri= para más inri=to make matters worse. I thought it an odd word in Spanish so after some investigation, found this
What is the definition and the meaning of the INRI? The INRI Christian Symbol represents an acronym of the Latin phrase IESVS·NAZARENVS·REX·IVDAEORVM, which translates to English as: "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", the inscription that Pontius Pilate ordered placed on Jesus' cross.
Can't get much worse than that.
cathyx, ITA about the use of the gym for all the reasons you stated. What I think is SO nice is that we have a Padre who THINKS and just doesn't spout platitudes. He is proactive! Get a load of that! I love it.
I'm actually watching some of the episodes twice because I am enjoying this TN so much. It is so different than "Amor Bravio", but it has the same level of interest. I almost can't wait to find out what is going to happen the next day. LOL!
Variopinta, that is sure an interesting word for the day in Spanish. Before I read what else you had written, my very first thought was how interesting to make a phrase out of what was written on the cross of Jesus.
Fatima
That being said, I don't think Raquel would turn down sex just because it wasn't good. Like Jardinera pointed it out so eloquently: she's the type who loves the one she's with :)
It truly is different to actually watch a tn, not just read the recaps, right?
Niecie, you know, I thought about that first episode and the way Oriana was anticipating JL's arrival - theirs was a happy marriage, but that must have not been true love after all, because she got turned off by his actions very fast - as opposed to true tn love, when the heroine who believes the hero has done something bad still loves him against her own will.
Variopinta, I really enjoyed the trip to the bedroom, too - and very realistic.
Over on the Telemundo board I imagine a great laugh we had a few months ago when two characters made love in the guy's place of business, a Moto Shop - but, still, his office was packed with lit candles in different shapes and sizes - for those who watch, I'm talking about Marido en Alquiler, who is usually pretty realistic - but I guess they just couldn't help themselves with this scene.
This sex scene with Sebastian was before the actor's birthday some weeks ago. Good suprise scene for the boy from the team. Sebastian/Alex Speitzer did became officially adult. :)

Niece: I had been thinking back to that first night's episodio myself and was thinking exactly the same as you! LOL!
Cathyx/Niece: The gay vibe must have gone straight over my less than worldly head. Good catch!
=======
Fatima: This one is interesting, but in very different ways from AB and I think we're in a slow portion of the story. I have a feeling things are going to get very exciting this coming week.

AlejoP: Thanks for the info on Speitzer. He plays a terrific wealthy brat very well. As for the uncut scenes, yep, we did see her mentally rolling her eyes and wishing she were with his papi instead and looking for love in all the wrong places.....
Thanks for this most fab recap, I always so enjoy them!
I agree with everyone about Raqui and Sebas, it was awkward!
I did like the love scene with 2nes great name by the way, and Ricky.
Lucina is one great friend I have to say, and love how she is with Rueben, poor man needs a serious diversion from that MadMatilde.
Madeleine: Lucina may be the one to finally get Madhilde's goat and that will be must see t.v.! I would also hope that she might be the person to make him eager to actually work again from the aspect of personal pride of having accomplished a worthwhile task with the time.
I know that Ricky is probably accustomed to having someone run in to clean up his messes, but I thought that Oriana would have felt compelled to clean up the spilled wine and broken glass that they knocked over with their early groping. I guess she has adjusted to the perks of wealth already. Let's not allow a bit of spilled wine and broken glass spoil the mood.
Carlos
Oriana and Ricardo are certainly "guilty" of premarital sex (they are not shacking up because she does not live with him), if one believes that is a sin. So I would understand if that might offend some. But most tns are filled with premarital sex, even if the characters are very religious and/or initially virgins. The only difference here is that the heroine is experienced sexually and not a young girl/woman in her late teens or early 20s. I think many here find that change refreshing.
I wish this part of the plot weren't so difficult for you, because this is shaping up to be a good tn (plot, pacing and acting) and new voices are always welcome on this blog. Plus, this tn needs some love and some additional commenters!
Vivi, thank you for explaining to Anon. 1:17 why her misgivings may have been unfounded. Anon. 1:17, you are welcome back any time to take issue/rant along with us regarding the writing/editing/performance/production quality. All opinions are welcome for discussion as long as the rules Melinama sets forth above at the top of the blog page are followed. It is obvious that you take issue with the writing and the story's premise. Yes, Mathilde is correct about Oriana, but don't you just hate it when a nasty character gets it right? If she weren't such a mean and sniping personality and if she hadn't stolen Ruben away from Fidelia when they were already engaged by purposely getting him into bed and getting herself pregnant, she would have probably been taken seriously by now. Oriana and Lina would be in jail or on their way back to Columbia and Mathilde would be getting thanks and a big portion of Paloma's fortune when the old gal dies. (I guess there's a moral lesson for the Dios-fearing in there for us somewhere also, no matter whose side you're on.) The writers may be asking us to accept their moral principles or simply giving us a view into what they believe the real world is actually like and telling us to deal with it.
I would also say that if one is a literal religionist, then yes, these stories are hard to swallow no matter which end of the spectrum and/or where in between we as viewers may fall. Again, these stories are morality plays which naturally exaggerate both Good and Evil, both deeds and deed doers. The situations are purposely written to underscore the conflict between Good and Evil and we continue to watch because the enjoyment comes from seeing how these two types of characters respond to the moral challenges they're given. You're probably correct that we're being given a lot to contend with here and believe. That's why we suggest wearing magic beanies on our heads. We simply adjust them when we feel the way you've come to feel and we are then able to relax and watch the rest of the show and dispense with reality.
I didn't have this problem w/ Destilando Amor, Fuego en la Sangre, Manana es Para Siempre, Sortilegio, to name a few. Always, always there is the Catholic undercurrent. Yes these are morality plays. That's the point. This one is deliberately blurring the lines. I've liked it so far. I has captured my attention. But this particular episode makes me thinks twice before continuing. I'm not a Puritan, I'm a Catholic. I have enjoyed Mexican telenovelas because they have not been morally relativistic. There is indeed a recognition of good and evil, and good always, always prevails, and evil always, always gets its appropriate comeuppance. I'll give it a few more capitulas and let you all know.
