Mentir Para Vivir #15 Fri 10/25/13 Love and Hate, All On a Slow Burn

Capítulo 15

Lo del Pasado:

Mathilde has approached Oriana in the hallway outside Paloma’s hospital room, has accused her of plotting with Ricardo for Ines to run off purposely to cause her aunt to have a fatal heart attack from the shock in order to take immediate possession of everything now that 2nes has finally been named as sole heir to the estate.  Though 2nes denied it, Madhilde has threatened to tell Paloma “everything”.

Lo Del Nuevo:

Oriana tells Ric what just went down and he tells her to blow it off.  2nes says no can do if that’s what everybody in the house thinks of her!  Ric says he doesn’t live in that house and he doesn’t think that (and that should, of course, be all that matters)!

Meanwhile, Raquel has decided to take Sebastian up on his offer to show her his crib (and I do mean crib—the spoiled rotten baby).  Nope, says Sebastardo when asked, his daddy’s never gonna be welcomed there and he’s persona non grata.  Not a topic to be discussed.  Sebastardo’s doing just fine on his own.  All Seb needs, he says trying to be seductive (and falling miserably short) is a lady-love by his side, one like Raquel.  Well, Raqi is definitely part of the “love the one you’re with” crowd.  He asks and she admits to having gone to bed with Ric once.   Seb is a fine specimen of the hormone-driven 18-20 something species and she decides to have a bit of a cougarette’s ride on the wild side.  Seb begs her to tell him he was better than Ricardo.  After all, he has to have been since he is so much younger than Ric, he claims, with apparent and misplaced braggadocio.  Raqi admonishes him for having asked such a question of her and then suggests that there’s much to be said for experience (as opposed to enthusiasm and endurance, which, she is considerate enough to leave unsaid). She figures that discretion is the better part of valor in this case, and fights wrinkling her nose .  “—You sure were something!”

Later that afternoon/evening, Madhilde arrives home and gets snitty about Ruben and Lucina spending time together playing póker while she’s been at the hospital with her aunt at death’s door.  Once Maddie leaves the room, the two giggle (flirt?) over her snarky attitude.  FF>>

At the hospital still, Ric and 2nes are there at Paloma’s bedside when the doctor tells Paloma she’ll get to go home day after tomorrow.  More small talk follows.   Ric surprises 2nes and Paloma saying that he and 2nes are steadies and engaged.  Paloma’s thrilled at the match-up.

2nes gives him a bit of grief afterwards in the drive of the manse and says she still wants time to think about it.  Talk turns to the gun she found and 2nes has no idea what Lucina might have done with it.  She refuses to go to the police with him and reminds him that would naturally lead to them discovering her taking True-nes’s identity and how would dear Paloma handle that????  They kiss; he wants more; she wants time to think.  What happens when a notable guy like him announces and she possible gets recognized by some tourist or something? It’s back to Columbia for her and a one-way ticket to prison for smuggling. She leaves him er…up in the air… and goes in to see about Lina.  FF>>

Madhilde tells Ruben her suspicions about 2nes and Ric plotting to get immediate control of Paloma’s wealth.  Ruben’s interest is piqued, but the two end up arguing about it anyway and he leaves again with another desperate and unheeded desire to have Madhilde put a sock in it.

In another part of the house, Raqi comes in late.  Lucina learns Raqi was with Sebastardo.  She also finds out from Raqi that Seb isn’t Ric’s little brother at all, but his closeted skeleton of a son “by way of a mental retard”.  Lucina is QTH impactada.

Ric makes a last minute stop at Mariano’s for a quick chat.  He tells Mariano about him and Oriana’s worries that despite their being able to prove she didn’t murder his father and that she didn’t know about her husband’s smuggling, how will they ever break it to Paloma that True-nes is dead and that 2nes is an impostor?  Dios will provide an answer when and if the need arises, proffers the good padre.  (Would we have expected him to reply with anything but???)

The next morning, Lucina overhears Madhilde griping at her daughter for submitting to being Nanny to Lina.  She’s not Ines’s servant or her maid, chastises Madhilde.  From now won just stay away from them!

Later in the morning, Raqi surprises Lucina with a trip to their new B&B.

At the same time, Ric has a chat with Piero about the different caliber guns, the larger caliber being the one Daddy Gabe was killed with.  They still have nothing to go to the police with, warns Pierro. “—The police will think you’re planting evidence.”  Their only option is to find the actual weapon used to kill him.  Pierro suggests he leave off worrying about catching the murderer, but Ric won’t.  He wonders whether or not Ric has heard anything more about Oriana Caligaris.  Ric lies and says the last he heard was that her husband had died; and no, he no longer suspects 2nes of really being Oriana.  In fact they’re nearly engaged!  Pierro congratulates his bud.  Ric brings up Berto and wants Pierro to pump him to find out what he can about him and what he’s up to.

Fidelia and Paloma chat on the phone.  Fidelia agrees to come for a visit the day Paloma returns home and to be introduced to 2nes.

Later that day, 2nes visits with Paloma and learns that Ruben married Madhilde instead of Ric’s Aunt Fidelia, that he lost his business, but instead of starting over and trying again to make something of himself, that he’s nothing but a lay about who’d rather play golf all day.  Cesar, though, is a decent sort and a hard worker, Paloma agrees. But she adds, he seems to be bitter and frustrated with life, and “—with a mother like Mathilde, who wouldn’t be?”  Ric shows up and takes 2nes to lunch.

At lunch Ric and 2nes discuss promoting Cesar.  Ric invites her to dinner at his batch pad that night.  They flirt.  He wants to take her to bed, though he makes clear to her that his intentions towards her go far beyond a one-night stand.  She admits to being frightened.  He promises her they won’t do anything she doesn’t want to.  Oriana stares into his eyes and it’s Truth Or Consequences time.  She asks if he ever slept with Raquel.  He admits he did but that it was only a meaningless fling.  He wanted information about Oriana and Raquel wanted to sleep with him.  She invited him to her room and he knew what that meant.  He had his needs and obliged.  Why her?  She’s not the first woman he’s been with; she’s just one of many occasional flings.  He wasn’t in love.   Believe it or not he’s never been in love.  Oriana is the one who’s finally captured his heart.  She doesn’t believe him He suggests they can discuss it and whatever else that evening.

That evening while getting ready for her dinner date with Ric, Lucina comes to chat.  Lucina tells her about the B&B and that it still needs some work done on it.  They need just a few more hundred pesos for the rehab work and when Oriana balks because it’s [the company’s money] not her money to spend, Lucina suggests her becoming a third partner in the business.  She says she’ll think about it.

Pierro and Berto have drinks together that night at some bar.  Pierro chats up Berto about being Lila’s finance manager.  “--Lucky you!”  Not really, sniffs Berto inbetween sloppy swigs of beer.  (Viewerville, after watching Berto in action, is glad it had only a light snack before viewing.  Obviously Berto suffers an unnatural aversion to shampoo and combs.  From the way Pierro’s rolling his eyes and turning his face, I’d say an aversion to showering and soap also.)  Berto gripes that he’s not that lucky.  He’s got to send in monthly reports on the financial aspects which were paltry in comparison.  Ric and Seb got the lion’s share since Lila and Gabe fought like cats and dogs all the time.  Over what?  Lucina, of course.  His lover?  Of course—and he’s not bashful [empacho= ashamed, embarrassed, shy] about saying it, either!  (I believe this was the gist of the conversation.  Correct me if I’m off base.)

Lucina shares the conversation later with Raqi who becomes incensed at having to have anything more to do with Oriana, let alone being forced into a business partnership with her!  Ric shows up looking for Oriana.  While they wait for her to show up, Ric asks about the gun Lucina found.  Lucina has to admit she had it, but then lies about throwing it away right after.  Oriana appears moments after.  Raqi is fairly choking on her rage as Ric flatters Oriana about her choice of dress and her overall hot looks.  They leave and Raqi wants to know why Lucina lied about having the gun and throwing it away.  Because, says Lu, he obviously now knows that Oriana is Oriana.  Nobody else could have told him about that gun and why but her!

Lucina describes to Raqi how Felipe explained about the difference in calibers of the two guns involved and that the one she had was too small a caliber to be the murder weapon. While Ric tries to impress Oriana with his bachelor’s digs, Raqi suggests to Lu that it could really be dangerous for Ric to know the truth now.  They should say it was all Oriana’s idea to falsify her identity using the dead girl’s identity.  Lu says no way.  “--Why not???”  Because he’s too in love to turn in either Oriana or them, being her friends.  “--Well, it’s a great way she has of compensating us for her good fortune, wouldn’t you say?”  Why?    Raqi parodies Oriana. “—I’m too ashamed to lend you money; why it isn’t even mine!”  Lucina watches the act with a discerning eyebrow.  Raqi suddenly gets pissy.  “—What she should be ashamed of is going to bed with the first guy she meets!”  Raquel is grumbling over spilt milk and Lucina gives her grief about it.

Over at Ric’s bungalow, the major domo has been sent away to another part of the house, and he and Oriana are discussing Lucina’s request for additional cash.  Ric doesn’t see a problem and offers to loan her the little bit more that they’ll need for the B&B.  When she refuses, he reminds Oriana that the three of them planned this false identity plot together and that they know all about her situation.  Lucina is a good sort and would play straight with them, though he wouldn’t trust Raquel as far as he could throw her, he says.  What right does Ric have to get involved in her business, anyway, she asks him.  Ric says that no matter what name she goes by, it’s because he is in love with her.  That’s why.  He decides he’d better take her home before she gets the wrong idea—that he only wants to seduce her by having her over to dinner.  It’s on his mind but it’s not all he wants from her, he reminds her.She says she knows what he intended, yada, yada.   Before he can say anything more, she moves in for the kiss and it’s electric.  One thing leads to another and she’s seducing him.

Thank you, Jardinera. Crisp and funny recap. I do love the 2nes moniker.-

The last scene was interesting. Oriana was definitely in charge.

As for Ricardo and Mariano and their quest for truth: Does anyone else find the gym as part of the rectory odd? I thought the scene earlier this week with the two of them, that is Ricardo and Mariano, huffing way while chatting about Ines was about as odd as it gets in novelaland.i

Jardinera- Great recap that covered all the major plot points. There were also some cute scenes with Lina that I liked.

I really enjoyed the love scene and how Oriana took equal control. I also like the love song that accompanied the love scene-- something about fuego lento. Indeed. Rick giving his butler that look to get the heck out so that he could go into full player mode was funny.

It seems that in order to be able to clear Oriana for the murder, they first have to clear her for the fraud in Colombia. Of course, as Rick mentioned, they could also find the murder weapon. If they found it in the possession of the real killer, that would also clear Oriana (and Lina) of the murder. But can the Inez truth come out without killing Paloma?

Thank you for the great recap, Jardinera.
I was wondering about the Raquel-Sebastian love scene - how much did they actually show last night? From the recap I couldn't actually tell.
I really paid attention because I know Univision tends to cut these scenes short - I watch on line and for me it looked like a rather long scene... with Raquel being shown at the end not enjoying Seba's love making skills AT ALL!!

How about that Ricardo, Oriana practically had to beg for it :)) Smart guy!
Great ending of the episode and the perfect way to start my recap on Monday, Ricardo & Oriana's first love scene - muahaha!!

Traveling Lady: I've never seen a gym placed in a tn rectory (or any other for that matter) so I couldn't say.
Oriana was ready to partayyyyyy for damn sure. I don't think she cared whether Ric's intentions were honorable or not. Je-je-je.
============
ViviDC: Great to have you back safe and sound. Interesting pictures and so glad you had such a great time! Going is fun. Coming back is just such a drag.

As for Columbia and the smuggling, I suppose they have to find a way to clear her name, like putting the horse and cart together in proper order, so that she won't be extradited when her name is cleared for the murder.

Adriana: They cut any possible bump and grind out, if that's what you wanted to know. I didn't watch on line cuz the Uvideo follows the US edits. If you can catch it some other place, perhaps they left it in. I didn't pay much attention till recapping and that nose wrinkle was not evident the first time around for me.
=====

Vivi/AdrianaNoel: The song made me think of "A Man With A Slow Hand" by the Pointer Sisters. The title sort of came from that and "fuego lento". I just double checked Word Reference and I guess our instinctive turn of phrase was on target, amiga:

"a fuego lento"= slow cooked, over low heat,
on a slow burn

Yep, AdrianaNoel You will have something steamy to dish out to us on Monday!

Thanks Jardinera! This is a wonderful recap of an interesting episode. And what a climax! (So to speak.) Love how Oriana took charge and did what she felt like doing instead of wringing her hands. I also liked the song that was playing, very cool.

That Sebastian's got a big "L" on his forehead and he doesn't even know it. OMG, asking if he was better in the sack than Ricardo? That was hilarious.

Clearly Ricardo has an, um, effect on the ladies.

The recap title is terrific.

Adriana- No, they did not show the whole love scene between Raquel and Sebas that you describe. They showed before and after, but not during. It seems that what you saw clearly showed that Raquel was not pleased/satisfied. Since we didn't see her face during the lovemaking, her attitude afterwards didn't give a clear indication of her real feelings, although she did make that crack of experience counting for a lot. Not like any of us are surprised that Sebastard isn't great in the sack.

Jardinera thanks for the recap. I also enjoyed 2nes. And LOL about your comment about aggressive Oriana.

Traveling Lady the gym/rectory (one of our recappers combined the two in Spanish very wittily) is odd to me. But I do enjoy the priest being shown as down to earth and interacting with others.

Vivi - thanks for mapping out Oriana's drama. I knew the stuff in Mexico has to be cleared up but wasn't sure where/how the supposed embezzlement in Colombia will pan out.

I'm also wondering how Oriana will somehow become related to Paloma. Because of the pic, I guess we are to believe that perhaps Oriana's mom had twins. Someone probably grabbed Oriana and left Inez with her mother or perhaps someone sold Oriana?

Adriana - as Jardinera said, our Uni broadcast cut out Rachel's reaction to Sebanada though it was such a brain bleach moment for me I tried not to watch.

I don't understand how Rachel can keep on complaining about her "friend" when she just slept with the boy she believes is his son. As Carlos noted the other day, there is such an ick factor there I'm left speechless.

Thanks Jardinera for a very interesting recap. Like the other commenters I really enjoyed the love scene. I was such a surprise to see 2nes taking the lead until I was sure it was going to turn out to be only a dream. But since it was for real, it has me wondering if true to novela style we'll get a few more steamy scenes before being headed for a long separation of the lovers.

I thought the eager trip to la cama was cute, tripping over the step & giggling, realistic.

Raq is not a true friend to anyone, I bet she turns on Lucina also. She is just a selfish, self centered brat.

Sebastian was just a true 18 yr old, how was I???? He needs to watch love scenes in Amor Real & Alborada.

I'm hoping that when push comes to shove, and it really counts, Raquel's better nature will come out. But I have a feeling that she's just going to get worse and become more of an enemy to Oriana- a dangerous one.

Jardinera - Thanks for putting everything into place with great style.

On the first night of the TN, Oriana was preparing a hot noche with her husband, but then her whole world turned upside down. So months later, taking charge with Ricardo must've been a big release, among other things.

I got a gay vibe from Berto when he asked Piero in the bar if he was married, but maybe that's just me.

Sorry to see Raquel go skank. Anyone could see Sabes would be lousy. Maybe she thought the thrill of getting even with Ricardo through his son would do it for her. Poor thing.

Thanks Jardinera, I'm loving this show so far. And I'm actually watching it too, not just reading everyones great recap.

I think that they wanted to provide a place that 2 men could hang out together and talk and not have it be weird. Men don't usually get together only to talk with each other, and since one of the men is a priest, they can't exactly go to a bar and hang out together, so they came up with a gym. And we get the added benefit of a half naked hunk to enjoy too.

Niecie, I got that gay vibe too, in fact, I thought he was going to hit on Piero at the bar.

We'll know soon enough how good Sebastian was by seeing if Raquel sleeps with him again. But it was hilarious that he wanted to know how good he was and how he compared to daddy. Another indication that he's young and insecure.

interesting
My Spanish word a day was inri= para más inri=to make matters worse. I thought it an odd word in Spanish so after some investigation, found this

What is the definition and the meaning of the INRI? The INRI Christian Symbol represents an acronym of the Latin phrase IESVS·NAZARENVS·REX·IVDAEORVM, which translates to English as: "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", the inscription that Pontius Pilate ordered placed on Jesus' cross.

Can't get much worse than that.

Jardinera, another great one from you! Thank you so much.

cathyx, ITA about the use of the gym for all the reasons you stated. What I think is SO nice is that we have a Padre who THINKS and just doesn't spout platitudes. He is proactive! Get a load of that! I love it.

I'm actually watching some of the episodes twice because I am enjoying this TN so much. It is so different than "Amor Bravio", but it has the same level of interest. I almost can't wait to find out what is going to happen the next day. LOL!

Variopinta, that is sure an interesting word for the day in Spanish. Before I read what else you had written, my very first thought was how interesting to make a phrase out of what was written on the cross of Jesus.

Fatima

Cathy, I assure you that Raquel did not enjoy Seba's charms at all! I don't know which version of the show you got to see, but the one with the uncut love scene, it is painfully clear that he's either doing it wrong, or she's just not into it at all.
That being said, I don't think Raquel would turn down sex just because it wasn't good. Like Jardinera pointed it out so eloquently: she's the type who loves the one she's with :)
It truly is different to actually watch a tn, not just read the recaps, right?

Niecie, you know, I thought about that first episode and the way Oriana was anticipating JL's arrival - theirs was a happy marriage, but that must have not been true love after all, because she got turned off by his actions very fast - as opposed to true tn love, when the heroine who believes the hero has done something bad still loves him against her own will.

Variopinta, I really enjoyed the trip to the bedroom, too - and very realistic.
Over on the Telemundo board I imagine a great laugh we had a few months ago when two characters made love in the guy's place of business, a Moto Shop - but, still, his office was packed with lit candles in different shapes and sizes - for those who watch, I'm talking about Marido en Alquiler, who is usually pretty realistic - but I guess they just couldn't help themselves with this scene.

It could be the school gym. I lived across the street (as a child) from a old Catholic church/school. They had a gym/bingo parlor (my gramma) said the priest were going to hell for gambling and smoking outside. :/) cynderella

I think so too, Raquel didn't enjoy the end of the sex with Sebastian, her face and moppets were telltale. Bur when she was with Ricardo in the bed (Cap3), we saw a tear of joy in her eye. She was sorry here is the game over.

This sex scene with Sebastian was before the actor's birthday some weeks ago. Good suprise scene for the boy from the team. Sebastian/Alex Speitzer did became officially adult. :)

Alejo- The young actor must have been over the moon to learn that his first adult love scene would be with Altair Jaraibo.

Here is a link where you can watch the entire love scene of Raquel and Sebastian.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x16hzia_raquel-y-sebastian_people

Kristin De Leon: Welcome to the wkly weekend rundown, and thanks mucho for the link to the uncut version (still pretty tame compared to the soft porn we get in earlier tns--Sortelegio comes to mind, not that I didn't mind seeing him in all his birthday glory, but I digress).
=======

Niece: I had been thinking back to that first night's episodio myself and was thinking exactly the same as you! LOL!

Cathyx/Niece: The gay vibe must have gone straight over my less than worldly head. Good catch!
=======
Fatima: This one is interesting, but in very different ways from AB and I think we're in a slow portion of the story. I have a feeling things are going to get very exciting this coming week.
=========

Foxy: I think the steamy scenes will come this Monday. Looking forward to it! LOL!
======

AlejoP: Thanks for the info on Speitzer. He plays a terrific wealthy brat very well. As for the uncut scenes, yep, we did see her mentally rolling her eyes and wishing she were with his papi instead and looking for love in all the wrong places.....

Jardinera, ITA with your comments below. Things are moving so quickly. I can't believe it!!

Fatima

Jardinera:

Thanks for this most fab recap, I always so enjoy them!

I agree with everyone about Raqui and Sebas, it was awkward!

I did like the love scene with 2nes great name by the way, and Ricky.

Lucina is one great friend I have to say, and love how she is with Rueben, poor man needs a serious diversion from that MadMatilde.

Variopinta: Thanks for the link to the soaps gossip.

Madeleine: Lucina may be the one to finally get Madhilde's goat and that will be must see t.v.! I would also hope that she might be the person to make him eager to actually work again from the aspect of personal pride of having accomplished a worthwhile task with the time.

Thanks for the marvelous recap, Jardinera. I didn't get around to watching this episode until late last night and have just now finished reading your recap and the comments. Your recaps are always a treat but I'm missing relaxing with a cool drink as I savor it this morning.

I know that Ricky is probably accustomed to having someone run in to clean up his messes, but I thought that Oriana would have felt compelled to clean up the spilled wine and broken glass that they knocked over with their early groping. I guess she has adjusted to the perks of wealth already. Let's not allow a bit of spilled wine and broken glass spoil the mood.

Carlos

Oriana is indeed a prostituta, a mentirosa and an adultress, i.e., a triple sinner. I tune into these shows because they are usually so unlike the typical morally relativistic American fare so, honestly, I'm disappointed. I don't know how much more of this I can take. How odd that Ricardo has a priest for a best friend. I continue to root for Mathilda, the ugly harpie, because in this topsy turvy melodrama, she's right and Oriana is a superficial fraud.

Anonymous 1:17: Question. If it is a sin to perform porn, isn't it a sin to watch and enjoy it? Please help me. I don't understand how some people continue to tune in to something that is offensive to them everyday. We actually enjoy watching this, but if you don't, please turn the channel. Why would you come here to complain about something you are obviously enjoying?

Wow! Liar I see (and she's feeling a lot of guilt about it). But she's not getting paid for sex, so she's not a prostitute. And she thinks her husband (who she broke up with last time she saw his sorry butt) is dead, so she's not an adultress.

Oriana might be feeling guilty but she keeps forging that signature. She's not being paid directly for sex but indirectly, and she's shacking up with someone she barely knows, though she has a young daughter, so she is without a moral compass. Sorry if that offends you. This is not a typical telenovela and any prayers to the Virgin ring hollow. In so many other telenovelas the main characters always pay dearly for having premarital. What's more, having a husband who is "dead to her" is not the same thing as having a husband who is actually dead. If she was married as a Catholic, she's committing adultery. Right now I'm at the point where I am not sure if I am going to continue watching. This particular episode has led to that point.

Anon- You certainly have a right to feel that way if it offends your morals. I'm just trying to understand how someone who believes they are a widow is breaking any moral law by beginning a new love. And is she having sex with Paloma? Because that's the only person she's getting money from. Ricardo is not giving her any money, or offering anything in return for keeping quiet about her true identity. He is keeping quiet about her identity because: 1) he is falling in love with her; 2) he believes in her innocence (with regard to the murder and the smuggling); and 3) he believes the truth about her identity would kill his godmother. As the title of the tn is “Lying to Live”, the lying part of the plot was set up from the start and is central to the action.

Oriana and Ricardo are certainly "guilty" of premarital sex (they are not shacking up because she does not live with him), if one believes that is a sin. So I would understand if that might offend some. But most tns are filled with premarital sex, even if the characters are very religious and/or initially virgins. The only difference here is that the heroine is experienced sexually and not a young girl/woman in her late teens or early 20s. I think many here find that change refreshing.

I wish this part of the plot weren't so difficult for you, because this is shaping up to be a good tn (plot, pacing and acting) and new voices are always welcome on this blog. Plus, this tn needs some love and some additional commenters!

Anon- Re-reading your comment, it seems that you do not know that Oriana found out that her husband died in a fire. As far as everyone knows he's dead. Of course, the audience knows better...

Vivi, Oriana is guilty of the sin of fornication because she is not married to Ricky and she is having sex with him. However, I don't understand how someone can watch sin, and be offended by it, yet continue to watch the show. Anon 1:17 is right, but I don't understand how he/she continues to watch. Turn the channel!

Anon 5:07- Yep. I get the fornication/pre-marital sex thing, IF one believes that is a sin. But I don't see the adultery thing since, as far as she knows, she's a widow.

Vivi DC/Anon.1:17:

Vivi, thank you for explaining to Anon. 1:17 why her misgivings may have been unfounded. Anon. 1:17, you are welcome back any time to take issue/rant along with us regarding the writing/editing/performance/production quality. All opinions are welcome for discussion as long as the rules Melinama sets forth above at the top of the blog page are followed. It is obvious that you take issue with the writing and the story's premise. Yes, Mathilde is correct about Oriana, but don't you just hate it when a nasty character gets it right? If she weren't such a mean and sniping personality and if she hadn't stolen Ruben away from Fidelia when they were already engaged by purposely getting him into bed and getting herself pregnant, she would have probably been taken seriously by now. Oriana and Lina would be in jail or on their way back to Columbia and Mathilde would be getting thanks and a big portion of Paloma's fortune when the old gal dies. (I guess there's a moral lesson for the Dios-fearing in there for us somewhere also, no matter whose side you're on.) The writers may be asking us to accept their moral principles or simply giving us a view into what they believe the real world is actually like and telling us to deal with it.

I would also say that if one is a literal religionist, then yes, these stories are hard to swallow no matter which end of the spectrum and/or where in between we as viewers may fall. Again, these stories are morality plays which naturally exaggerate both Good and Evil, both deeds and deed doers. The situations are purposely written to underscore the conflict between Good and Evil and we continue to watch because the enjoyment comes from seeing how these two types of characters respond to the moral challenges they're given. You're probably correct that we're being given a lot to contend with here and believe. That's why we suggest wearing magic beanies on our heads. We simply adjust them when we feel the way you've come to feel and we are then able to relax and watch the rest of the show and dispense with reality.

For all Mathilda's faults she sure raised two great kids.

I didn't have this problem w/ Destilando Amor, Fuego en la Sangre, Manana es Para Siempre, Sortilegio, to name a few. Always, always there is the Catholic undercurrent. Yes these are morality plays. That's the point. This one is deliberately blurring the lines. I've liked it so far. I has captured my attention. But this particular episode makes me thinks twice before continuing. I'm not a Puritan, I'm a Catholic. I have enjoyed Mexican telenovelas because they have not been morally relativistic. There is indeed a recognition of good and evil, and good always, always prevails, and evil always, always gets its appropriate comeuppance. I'll give it a few more capitulas and let you all know.

Don't worry. I think the morality play part of this will remain intact, as Oriana will suffer dearly when the truth about her identity comes out (both legally and personally), and she and Ricardo also suffer when they find out that her jerk of a husband is actually alive. I am sure these moments of happiness and abandon with Ricardo will be paid with LOTS of suffering and tears in the near future.

ViviDC: Ditto, amiga!

Anon. - definitely do!
