PEAM #157- 10/16/13: For A Good Time (And Trouble With Your Spouse), Call Alicia!

Recap By Pablo

This episode sponsored by cheap POLLO LOCO (yes, that's what Martha eats)!

Mimic

When Vicky enters AVON's headquarters  time stops. She looks like she works there, she is wearing a dress probably made with the leftover material from the secretaries uniforms. She walks with pride looking at everybody over her shoulder. I have seen bigger towers fall down, she better have a plan ''B'' for when Ricardo a) runs out of money, or b) kicks her out.

Ya lo lamió el diablo

Now that Ricardo has money to burn, Marisela and Virginia, or Virgin-not, as Mari calls her, fight over him. One because she only wants to spend a good time swimming in luxury and expensive gifts, and the other one because she wants the best for him, and the best is not Virgin-not, that's for sure. With Elías out of the picture, Marisela is left without good suitors, and Ricardo left her like the dog with the two sandwiches, without Juan and without the chickens... Marisela annoyingly cries trying to make us believe it is because she suffers seeing Ricardo losing all his money in seconds, but the reality is that she cries because she wants to be with him, instead of Vicky. Then she could be crying too, but with happiness, because money and status is what she had always longed.
In a very over dramatic moment, Marisela asks Vicky if she has slept with Ricardo...
-Yes!
-Nooooooo!! Inga' su!

 The bling ring

Patricia's ring's shine hits like lightning deep inside Verónica's heart causing a huge dose of pain. Ahem, envy. Like in the movie, if you wear it, you could die within a week. Guaranteed!

For a good time call 81-19-04-68-54

Xóchitl suspects foul play when she finds a little piece of paper in Fernando's things with a name and a number on it: Alicia (8119046854). Of course she doesn't know what to do and is so nervous that she presses the wrong buttons (she clicks twice on the lower side and then the number 2) fighting the left side of her brain, that tells her to do one thing while the right side tells her something different. She wants to trust him, but she also wants to call this number and make sure that Alicia is the one from Resident Evil and has some Umbrella tips to improve Avon work ethics and efficiency. She goes to see PATRICIA FOR ADVICE!! (imagine that) and Patricia spends the whole time using her hand as a fan not only to cool her face but to show off her bling! Wait, wait! One more thing, we will be concuñas! (Relationship between two women married to two brothers). Sorry, what were you sayin'? Is hot in here, isn't it?

Implanted memories

Pánfilo, in an effort to bring memories back to Chatita's head, shows her pictures of happy days long gone, when they both started their relationship on the curb, he picking up her trash and she chasing the garbage truck because she forgot what day it   was when  the trash  picked up. After that they were kissing everywhere, even down there in the dark. Yes!! Downstairs in a dark corner, close to the water heaters, you dirty minded!! Besarse allá abajo, or Besarse en lo oscurito, doesn't necessarily mean what it seems, even if that's what Octavio is implying to make people laugh. Oh, I forgot monkey's humor is slightly different than humans, remember, we're missing two chromosomes! Maybe that's why we miss all his jokes!

-Do you really love me?- inquires Chatita.
-Yes, I do, in fact, I never left you for Doña Susana, eh? Don't believe it when someone tells you... I love only you...
-Ok, I believe you. BTW, my head still hurts but don't tell Jesús or I'll hit you with my potty, before emptying it!!

Valentina's third daddy

Fatherhood has drawn Rogelio closest to Jesús, for his double experience. He is happy after seeing the ultrasound of little Roger. The only bad side to all this is who the mother is, since Verónica is far from being someone to set an example or raise somebody. The two have something in common though, they both have gotten the same woman pregnant... does that relate to them in some way? If Jesús daughter is Rogelio's stepdaughter what are they? Cofathers? Colleagues? After all, they dipped their brushes in the same paint.
He says he wants his baby but he doesn't want to be around Verónica. What can he do? I don't think Verónica's sanity will allow her to lose yet another kid. First Vale now this one? No sir! First I kill everybody than allow it!

Now you see it, now you don't

While Ricardo is wasting his money on intangible things like gambling, so does Verónica, only she does it in an evil way, or with an evil purpose. She is investing in her future, eliminating everybody in her way. At that rate, the only one left in Monterrey will be her and Jesús, but that's only because she wants to kill him last. Her mission, according to the little voice in her brain, is to get rid of everybody that has, is and will annoy her or thinks differently than she does (or is/looks happier than she is). Where does Vero gets all that money from? Does she have sponsors like Pollo Loco o Leche Lala? Does she represent some kind of knives or guns? She has arranged with her hitman, or henchman, or juárever the name of someone who does the dirty work for you, to go and kill Patricia and bring the ring to her. Yes! like Snow white, only she doesn't want the heart because it probably has cholesterol or heartworm. She wants the bling, the stone, the Swarovski. It might not be big, but Patricia's hands are so small, everything she touches looks huge, between us, that's why Rogelio loves her (line borrowed from TBBT - Howard and Bernardette).

You'll have to take it from my cold dead hand!

Outside in the parking lot where there's no security or cameras or lights (Gaspar and Remigio are inside, where nothing ever happens and they hear all the gossip they want- I really hate those guys always trying to hear everything like it is their business), the big man attacks Patricia and takes her pierce, car keys, watch and ring before stabbing her. She stains the car with like a gallon of type ''strawberry shortcake syrup'' blood, he runs, she falls, he calls his boss to tell her the job's done, and Patricia expires... NOT!! She is weak but still breathing. Remember, Weeds are hard to kill (yerba mala nunca muere). Xóchitl and Fernando spot her and call the ambulance. Now EVERYBODY runs to the Hospital for the 157th time!! (insert Benny Hill music here).
It is 2013 and nobody has call waiting. To make this moment seem more dramatic and/or to fill time so the episode doesn't run short, while Xóchitl is calling Alma, Alma is calling Patricia, so they don't know they have calls to answer and they spend like 15 minutes calling each other.

Abuelita, dime tú...

Alma is just starting in the motherhood mode, and it is not familiar with many things related to babies. Babies don't come with instructions, said Derbez. Well, some do, but they use batteries and are not wanted by everyone if you name them Fernando.
Little Baby elephant Guichita García Montemayor (can not be called Chatita because she hasn't met her ''chato'' yet, until she is 7) cries and her grandmother flies (flying is figurative speech, she can barely walk) to see her (taking her potato ''chiquiadores'' first, of course). Alma needed that robot baby more then Xóchitl to practice, and now is clueless and can't find the right orifice where the milk bottle or the thermometer should go. I hope she finds out before Chatita arrives! Maybe she is crying because she was born prematurely, after all, 12 months is not enough for some babies!

When Jesús gets home with a huge bouquet of colorful flowers, right after him is ambiguous Quico, who is looking for Valentina and insists on being her boyfriend. What? How old are they? Valentina (according to Chatita, and that's a stretch because of her memory) is seven (like most women -and a few men- regardless of how many birthdays she has had, she is still seven). Seven, second grade in Elementary School must be a good age to start texting and chatting on the iPhone and wanting to have a steady relationship with this boyrl. That boyrl seriously needs a male role model!

I wanna be your boyfriend, I wanna brush your hair and choose your dresses

Quico, shows up with Hopelessly devoted to you as a background theme ( I am sure that's the plug in for the record he is selling), looks more like a girl than Rai did as a boy. I mean, Raimunda was a girl impersonating a boy and she looked more boyish than this Kika. He also brings some origami thing that looks remotely like a flower. Jesús makes better origami than that, his ''angels'' look like ghosts...
Jesús panics in a deplorable ''comic'' scene where he jumps to year 2022 to see how Vale, now around 16 dates a punkish boy named Pedro. She has a mini skirt and pink hair (really? I guess the 80s will keep coming back again and again until the end of time) and she goes out whether you like it or not, dad!
Besides that, we have to endure ONE MORE TIME the special edition de luxe flashback that goes from the red bucket through the whole courtship, the ring where Alma had her Miss Nuevo León crown, and so many corny things I wanted to puke. Why do they have to show the exact same flashback all the time when she remembers something and when he remembers something? Chatita, who is probably watching all these flashbacks feels sick to her stomach and suffers a migraine, so she asks for some infusion of Melissa, Tila, Lavanda, Pasiflora, Valeriana, Azahar, willow bark, Chamomille, a gun or anything that can take those pictures of Jesús and Alma together out of her head. I would suggest a lobotomy, but this is a comedy, right? After all, you only need an icepick through the nose.
To make matters worse, Chatita asks who this boy is, Jesús says, from Jéssica's wedding, remember that I told you?
-No, I don't remember that, but I remember him now, because I also attended that wedding, bombo!

She asks his name and when he says  Quico, she starts mocking the one from Chavo del 8.
When Kiki finally leaves, leaving Jesús confused and upset, his uncle is outside waiting for him, eating a delicious chocolate bon bon. Literally. That's how Oliverio calls Jéssica and he was eating her with kisses under a tree. They all run before the chupacabras gets here and eat them all...

One step forward, two steps back

I would suggest Colunga to go back to period dramas, because he is not well suited for ''comedy'' or juárever this mix is. The points they made with Rogelio's marimba dance, they lost twice as many with this ''flashforward to 2022''

1+1 = 3

Ricardo sabotages Vicky's plans when he takes her ''against her will'' to a House of Gambling. The Texas Hold'em game requires that you play with 10,000 pesos blindly, so the woman next to you can afford more botox on her face.

In other news, Julio and Aída have been trying to go to bed together but they think they are cursed because there's always something that interrupts them and nothing can get done. They have been trying for 6 months (In Octavio's time) now (since Jéssica's wedding) and nothing.
Verónica is very upset because Rogelio was against her during the trial for Valentina's custody. He says he didn't do that, he was only speaking for Valentina, not against Verónica.
Vero is sure her duty on this earth is annoy everybody because Jesús duty is to annoy her. The thing is that she lets every little thing annoy her. She should be cooler and not let little things bother her... but for that, she would have to be born again,  and I don't mean in Christ!!

Tomorrow: Patricia dies, follows the light, Rogelio prays to Virgen of Guadalupe and all hold hands so she can come back again for a second chance. Looks like Martcia performs her second kidnapping, but it could also be just one of Patricia's hallucinations, since she is dying you know, seeing her whole life flashing through her eyes... Juárever!

I am glad there's only 24 episodes left. Finally I would be able to eat avocado on Wednesdays again!!

Pablo, hilarious as always. Thank you for your recap.
Ricardo left Marisela like a dog with two sandwiches- hahaha
Rogelio and Jesus- dipped their brushes in the same paint- i love it!!!
The Paty robbery description is so true. What large business doesn't have security cameras outside of the building? Of course, the security team would be inside gossiping. And call waiting- you are too much. :-)
Quico and Val- Que the heck?, they are too young. What was the point?? Too much filler.
This episode was filled with bitterness and foolishness. Uh vay!!
Onward!!!

Pablo, thanks for giving us some great humor this a.m. You even dragged in chupacabras. Maybe the chupacabras can do us a favor and get them all. If there are chupacabras then maybe there are UFO's that could abduct them all if the chupacabras can't get the job done. What do you think?

We still have too many serious imminent threats roaming around out there. What will Marta and Veronica be up to next? Maybe Jesus will realize he should have just let the justice system take its course and not had gotten involved in Marta's case or if the twin of a psycho who kidnapped your child shows us maybe you should send her on her way . Sometimes the stupidity in these shows in unbelievable.

Looks like Quico was a mini Jesus in many ways and that was one reason Jesus was so uncomfortable. I think the only funny scene for me was the flashforward with Valentina at 16.

So now it is back to the hospital as Paty struggles "between life and death". Isn't that what they always say?

Anyway, on to a new episode!

Jarifa

One last thing: the explanation of monkey humor says it all!l.
LOL

Jarifa

Thanks, I didn't know what else to say. Suddenly, my mind went blank...

I wanted to be brief, but having watched more episodes during the week than before helped me to grab the true context of things. And let's be honest, if Octavio didn't make so many mistakes, I will make them up (and blame him)! Jajaja!

Whoa!

Is there some Televisa law that an episode with hilarious avian sex must be followed by one with a nasty murder?

Veronica better end up in solitary confinement after this one. Though it would be better for Valentina if she died.

"The only ones left in Monterrey will be her and Jesús, but that's only because she wants to kill him last." Ha ha. So true.

I'm afraid to ask about the avocados.

We have a theory in México, that after you eat avocados you shouldn't get angry, or you will die. It is something to do with bile. But don't mind me and my old beliefs, since we also thought that watching tv while eating watermelon could kill you!!

Thanks for the recap!

Vero has officially moved to the dark side of the dark side. Will anyone put 1 and 1 together and come up with Vero as the assassin before she strikes again? Or will she get off like she did with Alma?

Thanks, Pablo. Not as scary as I thought.

Carvivlie, you would think that after Vero had EXPLICITLY THREATENED EVERYBODY, someone at least would...wait: it's a telenovela. Somebody slap me.

Better safe than sorry.

Vero got away because of people like Jesús and Alma herself, when they said, oh no, how can we press charges, what wil that DO TO VALENTINA? Poor little girl, this and that...

It's better one time red than a hundred without color... Don't make the remedy worse than the illness..

Do people get stabbed in comedies? That was funny? Did they hire Mejia?
¿QTF?

Great recap however Pablo.

Pablo, thanks again for a wonderfully caustic commentary on the stupidity that is PEAM right now. I still remember the first couple of episodes that I found intriguing and funny. But oh my, no longer!....

Loathe the Quico/Valentina scenario. That little actor just creeps me out, and I don't like Val flirting with him or him putting his hands on her. Really disturbing. Wish they would let her go back to pulling tricks on Rogelio or hanging out with Sanson II. And just acting like a little kid, not a pseudo teenager. Ugh.

Relieved to hear the explanation about the avocados. As you may know, we on CarayCaray are avocado-sensitive, thanks to a certain telenovela I refuse to name.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Paty between Life and Death. Yawn. We know she'll survive. And Vero will live to plot another day. Maybe Vero will die redeemed, trying to save Val from a Marta kidnapping. WHAT KIND OF A COMEDY IS THIS!!??

Well, hang in there Pablo..time is running out on this one.

Hahaha!

This is a very sick comedy!

Well, I'm ready to take "the cure" aren't you?

Well, Clue the movie started out with a death and hijinks ensued. So let the games begin!! ;)

Thanks, Pablo. I love the well-deserved snark.

So, love in an elevator (living it up while you're goin' down...). Funny scene with Aida and Julio, but at WORK?! In front of your coworkers? REALLY?! I'm surprised it's taken them so long, but apparently all these crises of the past 6 months aren't as important to show the viewers as the great comedy of psychotic stalkers and child abuse.

I also rolled my eyes at Quico when he made that disapproving face at Cardy and Jess kissing...right after he'd been sliming on a 7-year-old! Gross storyline; please drop it; we do not need any elementary school "romance". And how ridiculous is it that Chucho takes it so seriously?

Well, Alma and Chucho may be too sweet and stupid to save society from Vero, but I don't think Pati will be so kind. I'm pretty sure she's going to live, and she'll probably know who to blame! I hope there is a security camera there after all. We're close enough to the end that things could start to happen, right?

Chucho should definitely not give up his day job and become a decorator. That nursery, like all his "romantic" schemes, has too much going on. Farm animals plus princess castle plus teddy bears plus stripes plus more stuff I can't even remember. Plus too much pink.

Re: Jesús not pressing charges against Vero, for Valentina's sake:
"Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent." - Adam Smith

Pablo, thank you for the hilarious recap. Poor Pato, but I had to laugh at your "insert Benny Hill music here" because it was just the perfect thing to say.

Thanks for the avocado explanation. I didn't know what in the heck you meant.

Quico = yuck. I can't figure out his purpose. The kid must be related to somebody.

Is jesús taking this romance like they're actually stay together until they get married? She is ''7'' and he is ''13''. They should never be alone unsupervised, but that's all. I am sure by the time valentina is ''8'', she will have hundreds of novios more, and not the kind that you have to share your lip gloss too or borrow your high heels... sigh!
Valentina, there's more fish in the ocean!

I wanted to get that out of my chest! LOL!

Quico is the son Juan Osorio had with Niurka Marcos, the perpetually naked cuban ''vedette''.

Like this is a TN about families and this is the only way he can probably see him, why not hiring him? After all, they need to spend time together, right?

Pablo, you are "BAD"! (As in when you're good you're very good but when you're bad you're better.

Off topic question for you Pablo - I was watching another show last night and one of the characters said "Yo soy un lobo lampareado". But I couldn't find a translation of lampareado that made sense. I googled it and found a saying "Venado lampareado es difícil de cazar". So, in one of those contexts, do you know what "lampareado" means?

Like when you're in the middle of the road and there's a car coming and you stare at the headlights and can not move. When hunting in the night it is illegal. In the TN context could mean that he has been ''blinded by the light'' and survived so has more experience? Or could he mean ''dazzled''?

OK, I get the "Deer in the headlights" meaning. Thanks for that. Maybe the character did mean "dazzled", or yes, "blinded by the light" so he missed the obvious. That actually makes sense. Thank you!

Pablo...in the context of the Tempestad chapter last night, it really sounded like Claudio was saying he was like a "lone wolf" (that's the American saying). In other words he had no relatives, no family or close friends to leave his money to. Doesn't seem to fit with the vision def. of "lampareado" that we find on the internet (absolutely nothing about that word in any kind of dictionary I've consulted) but it's the only interpretation that makes sense within the context of the speech.

I often feel "lampareada" when driving at night now. At least I have a context where I can use that new word! More's the pity.

Thanks, Pablo - I appreciate your hanging in there with us till the bitter end.

I didn't know that about avocados. Fortunately, most of the avocadoes I eat are in guacamole form, and when there's guacamole there's usually tequila nearby, so... better keep it festive.

Quico is definitely NOT my favorite story development, that's for sure. I wonder if this was added to give FC a chance to showcase his comedic skills, looking baffled and nervous. If so, ugh and FAIL.

And can you believe it - they put "Zorilla" in the captions last night! It's an Ides of October miracle!

I thought it was pretty funny when Vero threatened the hitman, "she'd better be dead, you incompetent!" What's she gonna do, stab him? Why doesn't she just do all the stabbings herself, if she's such an expert??

Watching Chucho make facial expressions last night (I'm not sure which numbers they were; I've lost track of the system), I noticed just how great the casting of Valentina is. They look so alike and they make a lot of the exact same expressions. Except they look better on her, because she's younger and I wouldn't expect her acting to have a mature level of nuance.

Maybe he said ''lobo solitario'', ''lobo estepario''...? I'll see if I can find the episode on Hulu. Was it last nights?

Yes it was. I didn't think of checking on Hulu! Duh.... I'll check it out. Thanks.

It is Episode 58. I didn't look at the captions because they weren't working. I just rewound a bunch of times.

Well... there end up there for a couple weeks before they move them to the VIP area. I will check it too...

Could he have meant that he was disadvantaged somehow? Related to his imprisonment, maybe? I found this thing that talks about using lights for wolf hunting:

http://www.mexicoarmado.com/general-de-caceria/100805-que-es-el-lampareado.html

Could be. Hunting juárever animal at night using lights to blind them is against the law because the animal is at disadvantage. Hunting should happens when the animal can fend for himself.

It is on Hulu at about 38:50 minutes. He says "Yo ya soy lobo muy lampareado" with the English translation "Old habits die hard". Still kind of a puzzler, gotta think about it. Thanks for the link Julia, any little clue to the mystery.

thanks, Pablo. As much as I love FC, I gave up on this odd show long ago and only surf in and out from time to time. I couldn't believe it when Pattycake got stabbed last night. Comedy ??

It seems that whenever I surf in, someone is in the hospital. People are poisoned, kidnapped, and pushed down stairs. YIKES. The Marta and Veronica characters are very disturbing and frightening. Rogelio gets on my last nerve. I just couldn't stay with this show.

Now my plea to FC...Please stay with your strengths and star in another historical novela. Don Luis in Alborada is responsible for me falling down the telenovela rabbit hole. FC, I need you to play a hero in a novela that makes sense. ...well as much sense as a telenovela can make anyway.

Julia's link might be the key to the mystery! Someone talks about animals (could be wolves) coming after dark to raid the chicken coop and getting caught by turning on the lights. So maybe the wolf comes night after night and gets "caught" by the lights.

Re animals and lights : Here in Pennsylvania, it used to be popular for guys to go "deer spotting., They would drive around at night and shine a spotlight into a field to see deer, but they did not shoot them. However, people around here are/were big on deer hunting in the daylight during deer season. We have a lot of deer in this rural area, and some people count on venison for their tables.

Sylvia,so did Claudio mean that he was a lone wolf who was never "caught, and thus remained a single guy with no children?

Or was "dazzled" by all the possibilities and just never could commit. He did say he was too old at this point to share his life with someone. Although I found it ironic that he said "he had always been free". Huh!? You were in prison, dude!

Maybe he thought he would be at a disadvantage in the romance and family department because no one would want a guy who had been in prison? Or that he'd be an easy target for someone looking for a relationship because he's been lonely so long?

Episode 58 is only available on Hulu+, so I will have to wait until later to see. I found another 58 somewhere else where they say is the original unedited from México. Starts with the funeral and ends with the couple kissing in a cave. Do this relate to Univisión's 58? Are they really chopping the episodes for some reason?

Yes, they are chopping episodes on La Tempestad.

The funeral and cave kissing was last week.

Oh, so instead of having to endure 182+ episodes like people in México did, here we get to watch 134?

Is this the director's cut?

Another question, does XN has a twin sister? If so, is there another twin in MPV? I wanna see if there are twins everywhere, like in a very convenient solution for everything!

I ate a falafel, drank a ginger beer and cogitated over "lampeada". I think Susanlynn is on the right track but none of us are far off. The way that Claudio said it, like he was a bit of a scamp, I think he meant he had never been snagged and it was too late for him to change his ways now. Probably prison has something to do with it, probably it's just his style, probably he doesn't want to compromise or change his ways at all. THANK YOU everyone for playing along with me. I'm going to post a comment about this on the La T board.

Yes there are twins (of course)in La T, given away at birth, one is a successful businesswoman and the other was a homeless, alcoholic prostitute. They haven't met. Yet... dum da dum...

Veronica moved into Rogelio's a little too conveniently when she left Elias, but now that Elias is gone, can't she move back to his house, you know, the one with the fountain in front?

Is it really possible that Veronica is paying the lawyer and the assassin and her clothes, hair and handbags all on the alimony from Elias? Her shoes alone must cost a fortune in architectural design.

With lots of dads and no mom, and all her friends very ambiguous, Valentina is one modern girl!

Still no liking Patricia going back to Rogelio, as if everything he did before doesn't matter. I mean, yes, they really should have been together in the first place, but he has proven himself to be worse than unfaithful in every which way. Her recovery from kleptomania is going to be gaining the self-esteem to be angry with him. On the other hand, he's a rich guy, so I guess that makes it okay!!!!

So, no twins on MPV? Yet?

It puzzled me too. This is the first time I hear that expression (and I am from the countryside, where we supposed to know about wolves and all).

So, if is not a lonely wolf, is a very experimented one that is alone because he want to? ''Muy lampareado'' makes me think of soldiers with medals, or with scars that had made him what he is and he is proud.

But enough. I will see the episode later on and will visit LT board to talk about it there...

Thanks Pablo! This might seem like a waste of time but it's what makes these shows fun for me. Learning Spanish!

Yeah! We all find in them different things. For me this time, is like a steam valve to let out all my anger and frustration. I am loving all the disrespect I feel for the TN and all involved in it, Octavio included, sorry PETA!

Rogelio should definitely know it was Veronica that was responsible for the attack on Pati. After the thug called to tell her the job was done, she started to refer to Pati in the past tense. Rogelio noticed and said, "Era?" - and she quickly changed it, but knowing this TN, he will not even remember that part and put two and two together!

I watch Mentir para vivir on Uvideos, you probably could find your lampareado scene there. It has all the current TN's
