PEAM #158- 10/17/13- We May Have All Lost Some Hearing But Veronica's Baby is Born

The old:
We are the casino and Ricardo; the loser comes in with Virginia.  He goes to a table where the minimum bet is $10,000 pesos.  He is going to bet blindly. What an idiot.
Alma, Jesus and Ferny arrive at the hospital to see Paty.  Rogelio arrives and is informed that she is in critical condition.

Back at the casino, Ricardo bets it all.  So do his opponents.  I don’t understand Poker, but Ricardo wins everything. Dumb luck!
The new:
Aida and Julio argue about his car, it’s greasy and dirty but he starts to laugh and they get ready to do the horizontal mambo, when the phone rings and a message from his mother interrupts them.  She has tried his cell and if he doesn’t answer, she is coming to his house by cab.   Talk about going from hard to soft in record time.

Jesus calls a sleeping Chatita and he checks on his little princesses.  Jesus reminds Chatita that they have a doctor’s appointment in the morning.

A melancholy Rogelio remembers sleeping with Paty in their love “nest” and now she is in the hospital.  He realizes how much he loves her.

Vero calls the hospital and has a hissy fit because Paty is out of danger.  Sanson barks and she threatens to kill him too.  She suddenly has pain, holding her pillow, oops, her stomach.  Domitilia asks if she is okay.

Julio and Aida are now at the hospital, and Jesus and Cardenas will review the video cameras tomorrow.  Marisela is very agitated because her good friend is hurt.

Ricardo and Virginia bask in the money that he won.  It’s party time.

Rogelio has spent the night at Paty’s bedside.  Alma tells her friend to please wake up.  The doctor gives good news, no vital organs have been damaged and then suddenly Paty wakes up.  Paty realizes that her ring has been stolen.  Rogelio asks Paty to marry him again with a new ring that Susana had gotten for him.  The doctor checked her wound, which is healing well.  Paty was worried about having a scar.  She’s okay!!

Jesus and Val are having breakfast and discuss Veronica’s upcoming  visit.  Val is a little apprehensive about the visit.  The doorbell rings and they think that they have spoken up Vero but it’s crazy- Marta.  Marcia brought Val a gift for Val and her sister, Luisa.  Val wants to know how does she know about her sister and Marta said that she saw her in the hospital. The doorbell rings and it’s another crazy, Veronica. She has the nerve to ask Jesus, what is this crazy woman doing here??  Seriously???  Val explains that Marcia is Marta’s twin sister.  Marta is in a sanitarium.
Vero starts talking to her crazy counterpart mentioning how she was interested in Elias and how she tried to kidnap Val.  She noted that Marta was not reacting to her.  Jesus brings the baby out and Vero, says that they baby looks like Jesus as if that is an insult.  Marcia leaves.

Ferny is on the phone talking to Alicia and when whiny Xochy asks who was he talking to, he lies and says that it was his brother. Xochy grabs the phone and the person hangs up.  Xochy realizes that Ferny was talking to Alicia and asks who is she?? Please tell her already, this is stupid.

Val and Vero are on their outing, not sure of what they are going to do.  Vero is going into labor and Val goes to get Domi who is getting it on with Cantu- EWWWW!!!!!  Val can’t find Domi, and the labor and the screaming continue.

Jesus and Alma watch the video of the parking lot  on the night of the robbery and Alma is sure that she has seen the man running away from the scene before.  Val calls Jesus and tells him that her brother is coming and she needs him to come her mommy is in pain.  They are at Rogelio’s house, please come quickly.  Jesus being Jesus is on his way.

At the hospital the police are asking her for a description of the thief.  Hmm, she thinks aloud, a thief stealing from a thief.   The policeman wants the videos and will do whatever possible to catch the thief.  Rogelio’s phone rings and he does not answer.  Alma realizes that he is with Paty at the hospital.  Jesus arrives and Vero is screaming and she scares Val.  Jesus calls the doctor.

We go back to the whining and Xochy wants to know everything about Alicia.  How long has he known her?? Ferny says that it’s nothing bad.  His heart belongs to Xochy.  Xochy knocks on Alex’s door.  It’s not a good time, but Xochy bursts in anyway.   Alex is wearing sunglasses to cover up a black eye.  Ferny is talking to Alicia and tells her that they have to be more discreet.

Julio goes to Ricardo’s house to see if he is all right. He also checks on Aida to see if his mother has arrived. He rings the bell and it wakes up Virginia.  Virginia answers the door.  She tells Julio that Ricardo bet and won big money.  Julio tries to wake up Ricardo.  He wants to help him.  Ricardo is not too happy to be awakened with the same story.  Julio wants the old Ricardo back and Ricardo claims that the old Ricardo the loser is gone forever.  He will lose his money and Ricardo lets him know that he has won more money. He asks if he misses Marisela and he says that Marisela doesn’t want him.  He kicks his friend out. What an a$$hat!!!!  Chatita reads Marisela and tells her that she was suffering from the same thing- money meaning everything to her or the lack of.  Money changed her. According to Panfilo- it’s better to be poor. So give Ricardo time to think.  Chatita and Panfilo share with Marisela, that Chatita doesn’t feel anything for Panfilo.  How about another kiss??? Marisela will cover her eyes.

Alma finally reaches Rogelio.  Vero is in labor with Jesus at your house.  Why is Jesus at my house?? Val called him.  The doctor is going to take Vero to the room and Val should stay put in the living room.  Vero is screaming in pain while Jesus carries her off.  There is no time to go to the hospital and Vero is screeching in pain in Rogelio’s bedroom.

Alma checked on Paty but she doesn’t want to leave Luisa for too long.  Paty is a little down because she knows that Vero is having Rogelio’s baby.  The baby is born, and it’s not crying.  The scene is bloodier than I remember.  Jesus called the ambulance, while a disheveled Domi and Cantu arrive.  Val tells Domi that her brother has arrived. Domi blames Cantu for her not being available.

Back to the labor room, Rogelio doesn’t know what to do, so he covers his face, the doctor tells Vero to breathe and Vero is insulting him as usual.  Val is worried about her mother and prays with her father-The Our Father.  Oh Lord- crazy Marta bursts into to visit Luisa. The baby boy is born, he is adorable but weak.  Vero is quiet. Finally!!  She will be okay.  The paramedics take the baby to the hospital.

Marta has Luisa. In her arms. Alma lets Paty know not to give up faith and that everything arrives in due time.  Paty loves her BFF Alma.  Alma loves Paty as a sister.

After the kiss, Chatita is not sure how she feels; she needs to practice kissing some more.
Xochy asks Alex, what happened.  Some friend hit her. Que the heck!!!

Marta wants to take the baby for a walk and Minerva says that she knows nothing about it.  Come on Minerva, you don’t remember her kidnapping and almost killing  Val??  Thank goodness, Sebastian is there is save the baby from that nut.

A flustered Rogelio comes into Paty’s hospital room and just says my baby, my baby.  Paty and Alma share impactada looks.

Coming attractions:
Vero is still brewing in hate and planning her revenge against Alma and Jesus.  Chatita remembers when she was pushed and it is supposed to be an unforgettable night, let’s see!

Hi all,

I hope that I didn't sound too insensitive but when I had my children I didn't scream during labor. Screaming did not help the pain to go away. Veronica just likes to hear her own voice but I may be tone deaf from this episode.

Since none of them actresses, including the producers, they don't know anything about pain and/or screaming. Verónica's screams didn't sound liek they were inflicted from pain. Or at least the extreme pain going to labor is, according to what I have heard.

Verónica actually told Jesús that the baby didn't look like him at all, are you sure you're the father? she asked him.

Aída's mother sounded awful with that northern accent. Aída told Julio is because she is from the north, which north, your north or mine, because the whole TN supposed to be happening in the north, duh!

Verónica has the most ugly blouse I have seen on a pregnant woman. That yellow/mocha thing that looked like her belly was bare was hideous! Who dresses her?

Martha and Verónica confront each other and Jesús has his ''what?'' face but seems to not be connecting the dots. hello?

What is worse, having cameras or not having people monitoring them just in case?

Another ''comedy'' low: Domitila making out with Cantú, three words: dis-gus-ting!

Thank you, Pablo for the correction regarding Veronica's insult. You are so right about not knowing about pain the screeching was unbearable.

ALL WOMEN ARE CRAZY!!
Calm down, I mean, in this TN...

They thought that because she was having the baby in the house with no pain medication, she had to screech like a pig about to be killed.

One more thing on Domitila: how desperate do you have to be to put your eyes on Cantú! Add her name to the crazy women list, please!

Tablet Jefa, thanks for a very complete recap of a very tedious episode. The recap was so much better!

Why would Minerva leave Marcia/Martha in the house when Alma or Jesus were not there? That was absolutely unbelievable.

Too many up close and personal birth scenes. We didn't have to see another umbilical cord being cut. We never should have seen the first one.

The real problem with this production is the incongruity between the plot and the tone. They never should have made this "vale of tears" with countless calamaties a comedy. It is just ending up being grotesque.

One more episode this week. :)

I can't spell my own name tonight!Too much Diet Rite!

Well... It started as a comedy. Even the first intro was kinda funny and festive.
I don't know when, whoever bought the rights from the colombian TN thought about changing the plot this way. I don't know why whoever sold those rights allowed this people to commit this hideous crime. Juárever.

The thing is that they started making changes along the way without thinking out the results. They changed the intro when it was more suitable having María José (and she even had a role) singing the 2nd musical theme, they gave roles to friends and family, fired prople who was vital in the story, let people dissapear to then appear again for a few episodes (what is the point of having Ninel if she makes way more money in her ''palenques'' every weekend than she does here? Was that a 2 way convenience deal?
It's kind of confusing, on one side they claim is all about family and values but on the other side is revenge, death threats and killins.

I really don't know, but I started watching because I wanted to see Monterrey, the city I spent my est years in, they showed it a little and that was it.
After that I felt pretty disappointed and that's when I went into Verónica's mode, trashing it in every way I could. Sorry, but I am glad is about to be over, I will forget about it pretending it never happened and get ready for the next!! Hahaha!

Tablet Jefa, LOVED the recap. Really, it was such a joy. I admit I didn't pay too much attention to tonight's episode on TV so I wasn't greatly annoyed by the pesky bits. How clever of me because your recap was clearly so much better!

I'm ashamed to admit that I thought your most hilarious line was "Talk about going from hard to soft in record time." It's sad, isn't it, that at my age I still laugh at wilted member jokes. I hang my head in shame.

Yet I recover!

Pablo, if the location of this TN brought you to us then that is good enough for me. You have been a treasure. I also miss the original peppy intro.

Lordy. Thanks for the hysterical recap TJ. Couldn't tell if it was the bug I was fighting was making me nauseous or what I was watching ( I have my suspicions...)

As for Virus' annoying screaming. Frankly I took that more as that being Virus. Considering her past behavior, this woman can't handle anything that makes her uncomfortable and exaggerates anything that happens to her. I had twins, natural, nope you don't scream like that....heck, you're too exhausted most of the time to do it. And may I say lucky Virus for having one of the shortest labors in history!

And of course, the monkey writers who really DON'T like children, pull Val into being the one who has to play the grown up and contact help. What a lucky girl to now be traumatized with childbirth possibilities. Anything else they can think of????

And to be consistent, we have little Louisa being stalked and little Rogelito possibly ill?

And for the rest of the "adult" plot lines - not a one is decent except for anytime Pati surfaces. Loves the worry about the scar...so true to form.

Daisynjay

I also don't get the sudden dark turn this series has taken. Is it that there is inadequate tension in a comedy that the writers feel a need to make it turn dark with the standard melodramatic plot points?

Kidnapping an infant won't impact the infants in the series but the continual abuse Veronica metes out to Valentina makes me wonder whether the child actress will be affected by it.

Has anyone tried to explain this?

"Please tell her already, this is stupid."

Tablet Jefa that was perfect. And how many times could we have uttered that phrase during this telenovela?

Like UA and many other commenters, I worry about the effect of this creepy script on our little actress who plays Val. I hope someone takes her aside and reassures her that while there are moments of discomfort...can't deny that... women don't scream like this (Alma and Vero) during labor. This child has been exposed to all kinds of horrors including her latest storyline with creepy Quico.

I suppose the Alexandra storyline will be a PSA about abuse of sex workers. I'm not opposed to PSA's but it's just one more plot point that does NOT belong in an Alleged Comedy. This one definitely is NOT FUNNY. But your line about going from "hard to soft in record time" certainly was, Tablet Jefa. Thanks for a no-nonsense retelling of a very nonsensical episode.

Judy B, you hit it on the head with "creepy script".

Was this a hit down in Mexico?

Thank you all, this comedy has made a dark turn and in its ultimate semanas there is very little to laugh about. Between Marta and Veronica, their levels of crazy particularly around children is frightening. I understand that this is an adaptation of a Colombian tn but did the writers have a creative block

I watched the colombian version on YT until the characters of Fernando and Patricia run to the countryside to see Fernando's mother because they stole a whole truck full of toilet paper.

I am sure all this twin, everybody jumping on everybody's bed and having babies from everybody, kidnappings and all (the craziness, because stupidity sounds harsh) is not there.
As soon as this $H1+ ends, I will finish with the original, and I am sure I will think that is worth an award or to...

If they planned to go in a way soooo different from the original, why take the elements, why not make another thing up entirely and not say it is inspired, or based, or juárever, in another work. Shame on them!

Poor TJ! I think you have gotten more dud episodes than any of us -- although nowadays there sure are a lot to go around. Glad I didn't draw the childbirth scene this time, though. :p

And "getting it on with Cantu- EWWWW!!!!!" Couldn't agree more!

Thanks, TJ. "Please tell her already, this is stupid." YES!! THANK YOU!!

When Xochi walked in on Fernando on the phone with Alicia at the end of Tuesday night and asked who he was on the phone with, I thought for sure that either he'd tell her the truth, or she'd ask who Alicia was. You know, because we're in ultimas semanas and all, it was time she turned over a new leaf. Do we really have to wait until the very last episode for her to act like a grownup??

And Ricardo. Come on. Didn't he brag that he'd be able to go back and double his inheritance? If he runs out of money this time he won't be able to sleep in the Avon warehouse because he doesn't even work there any more!

Pablo: "I watched the colombian version on YT until the characters of Fernando and Patricia run to the countryside to see Fernando's mother because they stole a whole truck full of toilet paper." Oh, man. Why couldn't we have watched THIS telenovela? That actually sounds funny.

Seriously... this may be the first TN I've ever watched that actually got WORSE during ultimas semanas. (They didn't always get better, but they never got worse... until now!)

And Vero... when Chucho and the doctor got her into the bedroom to give birth, I was hoping the doctor would tell Chucho to find a clean sock. And then STUFF IT INTO VERO'S MOUTH!! Surely they teach this important technique in medical school.

In Domitilia's defense, she never seems to leave Rogelio's house. Cantu must be one of the very few men she's met in years.

Thanks for the recap, TJ. I wasn't able to watch last night.

This TN definitely went from comedy to dramedy (I don't say "comedy-drama" because there's more drama than comedy, at this point).

I, too, wonder how all this drama affects the actress who plays Vale. Very important to bond with her and keep it light and fun between takes. There have been child actors here with intense roles behind them who grew up to be well-adjusted and talented adult actors. I feel sorry for the child TV actors back in the day when they were picked for cuteness and not ability. Once they grew up or their show was cancelled they must have wondered what hit them.

Good Recap TJ,
I saw the second half of this episode, which now seems to be more drama filled than a comedy.

I am watching Mentir para Vivir, my first real TN Drama, and I can't tell the difference from this comedy TN. MpV just has no sound effects....

BTW there is a child actress on that TN, also being exposed to a lot of grown-up situations. What's up with that, Televisa must have an abundant crop of children they can use as actors, and actresses, and just stick them in the plot. Here in the US, we tend to stay away from involving children in our TV dramas...

If Veronica's baby dies, then this is no longer a comedy...you think.

MpV is not that bad, but it is a drama with a child involved...(and my favorite TN actress)It just comes on too late, maybe they will move it up in the time slot when PEAM is done, or maybe not.

Off topic...JudyB., it was a hard lost last Sunday, and our team logo and nick name is front page again....Thanks NBC

You must be loving that daily dose of Mayrin, Lee! I wish they would put Carlos Ponce in something...

I wonder sometimes as this TN becomes more and more serious whether as we go towards the end (thank the heavens) it has a lot to do with the fact your leads are not comedic actors, and as you try to redeem or mature the 2nd and 3rd tier characters who DID do the comedy, you aren't left with much to work with. So instead you get whiny or stupid, not funny.

I could put up with the stupid, but my objection will stay with the abhorrent manner that Val, who honestly is the main character in this story, NOT Chucho, has been treated: she's been traumatized, moved from home to home, left with a string of people, left to handle situations far too serious for someone her age and then all this compensate with over-indulgence and over the top STUFF. The scene with her "boyfriend" was almost frighteningly telling in the way she suddenly answered her dad like some 17 year old. I didn't really find that "cute" being she's been forced to age beyond her years inwardly--outwardly living with castles and fairy tales. Makes me shiver. Had to remind myself this was a TN and not real.

Daisynjay

Daisy: I'm also very disturbed by that whole Quico/Vale novios thing. She's only 7 years old!!! The boy is practically a teenager. I did not find that funny and was staring open mouthed at Alma and Chatita as they were encouraging it. If the boy had been Vale's age, then it might be cute. But as it is, too pedophilia for me.

Lee...that game was a bummer. I really thought the 'Skins were on an upswing. RGIII is getting his mojo back but the defense seems to have serious problems. It's going to be a long season.

Glad you're getting dessert with Mayrin though. Look on the bright side, amigo!

TJ:

Thanks for your most marvelous recap and thanks to Pablo too for your recap. I was out of town for a couple days.

I so agree about the Alicia storyline.

Moronica will never give up her excesses and her revenge! Please!

I agree about Domi and Cantu too! She can do soooo much better. 'Nough said.

I hope now that this bebe is born, Rog gets custody and throws Moronica's sorry butt out the house. 'Nough said!

Blue Lass, she is older now than when I first saw her in "I luv Juan" you can see the wrinkles in her laugh lines, but she still fills in a pair of jeans very well.

JudyB. RG3 looked better than he had all year, our special teams lost that game Sunday night, allowing two long runbacks....

Oh well, the Bears come to FedEx Sunday....we will see what happen.
