NovelaMaven, I committed to Monday for Marido en Alquiler, just once a week.

Thanks for getting us started, Novelera.

Anita, thank you for pointing out that I mislabeled the original post. It's all fixed now due to your ever-vigilant Eyes on Caray. (ay ay ay)

MARIDO Recappers

I've been following Marido & enjoying Juan Soler and Sonya Smith mucho, but will >>ff through Barbie & Quique, the beach bums and others, so I don't want to volunteer to recap regularly.

However, I could take a Wednesday now and then (I can do this Wed, Oct 30 and next, Nov 6) if that eases things for someone else.

NOTE TO VIVI: If you still want to do this Wed, ok, have at it. I can do next Wednesday. The next time I can recap will be Dec. 11 and possibly the 18th.

NM--Give me the green light when you hear from everyone.

MARIDO

Of course, we all want Utah's Gris-Reinaldo encounters detailed.

MARIDO:

Anita- Be my guest! I look forward to your Wed. recap this week. I'll jump in whatever Wednesday is needed, if I have time.

Hi Deb, I would be willing to help out on one of those days. My only glitch might be that I wouldn't be able to post right after since it is a later novela and no way to preview it first. Maybe Friday? What do you think?

Mena

Marido

I'd like to do the detailed versions of the Gris-Reinaldo stuff, but unfortunately Telemundo's videos (which is where I watch) have not have the subtitles for a week or so now. My Spanish is getting better, but I miss so much unless I can see it written down.

Vivi--De acuerdo...I'll do Oct 30 & Nov 6. Gotta keep my wit sharpened.

Hi Mena,

if you would like to do the Santa recap on Friday,
that's fine with me!

I wanted to recap ¿Dónde está Elisa? rerun on MUN2 but nobody ever gave me the green light.
Also the idiots at mun2 says Pasión de gavilanes runs at 6 so i completely missed the first capitulo........

GENERAL

Novelaman,

Bummer about ¿Dónde está Elisa? So are you saying you'd like to write about Pasión de Gavilanes? [I'm sure you could find the first chapter online]. If so, go for it.

I can do Marido on Thursdays.

Kelly

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – LUNES – Part 1 of 4

Fernando, not believing his ears, asks Teresa Cristina to repeat her request to have him burn up Griselda and her entire family. She assures him that’s what she meant and that she wants to be sure he doesn’t leave a book of matches there. Fernando says that this is too much. He reiterates all he’s done so far: get rid of the mafioso’s body; help kill Marcela; get rid of the talkative nurse. But he says he can’t do this. He says he knows these people, and he’s the head of security of the condominium. He says, besides, she never paid him. She tells him she’s good for it. If he starts a fire at the shack in front of her house, with its owner and her children inside, she’ll pay him in advance. And she starts to strip.

We get another Neurotic Ro scene. Elsa, the maid, tells him what we’ve all been screaming at our televisions for months: “Stop snooping around TC and get a life!”

Griselda (in high heels!!!) thinks about her conversation with Reinaldo regarding his separation. She calls him while he’s checking into a hotel. She feels badly and feels she might have played a part in their separation. He says it’s a delicate issue and could they discuss it face to face.

When Gris tries to leave she gets the third degree from her children.

Rosario overhears some sounds of pleasure from the sauna. Meanwhile, Fernando calls TC La Reina del Nilo, completely freaking her out. She accuses him of being Ro’s lover!

At the police station Iván is told that Rafael said the proof of his crimes could be found on the computer at Fashion Motors.

Fernando is indignant, and asks her what she’s been smoking! He says it’s a lie, but she says she’s going to tell everyone. But she won’t say a word if he does what she asks and without delay. After she leaves Fer tells himself that TC is too smart for him. He thinks a rumor like that would be a disaster, and “Sorry, Griselda. It’s not personal.”

Max and Clinton pick out a fighter to be trained. Clinton advises him to get something in writing about the training, and gives him a wad of money. Clinton asks if he’s been seeing Bárbara and Max insists he’s not. Seems like he’s protesting too much.

TC calls José and asks for some of that really big róbalo (sea bass). The double entendres are flying in this episode! She says she wants the big fish at her house. When he asks about the “shark”, she replies that she threw him out of the aquarium because he developed an addiction to pez globo (blowfish).

Reinaldo is at apparently the only hotel in Miami, where Barbie and Max were staying. Griselda comes. They are awkward with each other, and he says he can’t fit all his clothes into the hotel closet. She reminds him of what she said the first time they met. He remembers it perfectly and repeats it. En la vida todo es simplemente cuestión de ingenio y actitud. They tackle the closet.

SANTA

The San Diego Opera does these community outreach presentations on a subject related to an opera they are showing but not necessarily about the opera itself. (For Moby Dick they did a talk on whales). So tonight I went to a talk they did with a horror film festival about themes similar in horror and opera. When it ended and I had to get home to Santa, I started thinking that this show is a total melodramatic horror opera. But mostly I'm just hoping that Victoria pulls a Lucia di Lammermore on Patricio. (Lucia is forced to marry someone she doesn't love BY HER BROTHER- hello Carlos- and she stabs him on her wedding night so she can be free for the guy she really loves- hello Ivan). I know Victoria isn't the crazy one on this show but I'm pretty sure she could pull it off. Oh please let there be a mad scene.

Kelly

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – LUNES – Part 2 of 4

Iris and Mario leave for TC’s house. She’s worried about TC.

Clara and Beto continue to snipe at each other, and Gabriel tells them to cut it out.

Penny sees Leo dealing drugs and goes to Victor for comfort. But when he kisses her, she says she isn’t ready for another relationship. Victor muses to himself that he’ll wait for her.

Juan Pablo and Vanessa are canoodling at Fina Estampa. JP notices she’s distracted, and she says she’s worried she won’t be able to pay college tuition without the Gourmet Palmer job. He says he’ll find her a job at Fina Estampa.

Esther likes Amalia’s cream, but not the etiqueta (label). She calls Amalia and tells her she’ll design another one. Gabriel arrives, and she’s happy the guard at her condo let him right in. She says this means they know he’s a friend. He erupts at being called a friend, and she proceeds to kiss him quiet.

Amalia is brooding in her room, and Quique tells her Antonio has a surprise. He’s cooked dinner, and the siblings are having a nice dinner together.

TC orders Ro to leave, and José proceeds to talk dirty to her. In the kitchen Ro decides she’s a nymphomaniac, having had Fernando in the afternoon and now José in the evening. Ro gets his revenge by sending Iris and Mario (who arrive by the back door) upstairs to TC’s bedroom.

Griselda and Reinaldo get all the clothes packed. She tells him he’s not as depressed as she would have expected. He says it was a very quick thing, but it happened at the right time. Griselda tells him that sometimes you have to realize when it’s necessary to take another path. He tells her that the only thing that he owns is his heart, and even that hasn’t been his for a very long time. He tells Gris it’s hers. Gris: Y el mio tuyo. Passionate kisses ensue. But Gris stops him. She says it isn’t right. She doesn’t know if she can do it. She says she’s had no one since José was declared dead. She’s afraid of disappointing him. Maybe she doesn’t even remember how to do it. He tells her it would be the first time for both of them to be together. But she leaves.

Beside the elevator Gris calls Celeste who tells her “It’s now or never!”

We are treated to some hilarious foreplay by TC and José. He beats his chest and gives Tarzan yells. She makes monkey sounds like Cheeta from the old Johnny Weismuller movies.

Gabriel and Esther notice they’ve been kissing for 20 minutes.

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – LUNES – Part 3 of 4

Griselda returns to Reinaldo’s room and asks him to have patience. Reinaldo replies: “Do you know how long I’ve wanted you? Desde que una noche de luna llena en que vi salir del mar a una sirena que me embrujó. Y finalmente mis manos pueden acariciar esa sirena – cada centimetro de esa hermosa sirena (Since that full moon night when I saw a mermaid leave the sea and I was bewitched. And finally my hands can caress every centimeter of that beautiful mermaid. Sigh.

Teresa Cristina and José are definitely getting busy when Iris and Mario appear at the door and take cell phone photos. TC goes ballistic and orders José to get the camera.

Ro locks the door and puts the key down his pants so they can’t get away. When Mario moves toward him, Ro says: ¡No atrevas a tocar mi sardinita! Wow, more fish double entendres! TC says she can’t decide whether to torture Iris or strangle her. Iris says that, after her death is confirmed, some prestigious lawyers have some letters that would tell all. José asks what letters she means, but TC tells him to zip it. José manages to grab Iris’ phone, looks at the photo: ¡Qué róbalo!. They all gather around admiring the photo. Ro deletes it.

While Gris’ children fret about her absence, she’s curled up next to Reinaldo, completely content.

Gabriel doesn’t make love to Esther. She thinks it’s because she’s carrying another man’s child. He insists that’s not it. They both are getting over other people and the time isn’t right. But he says he already feels the baby is partly his. For now, he’s ready to settle for kisses. He assures her that the child will have a father to respect.

Juan Pablo doesn’t look too contented with his lot after Vanessa leaves.

The cops tell Rafa he can leave on his own recognizance until the trial. They’re still gathering evidence. But Rafa wants to stay!

Griselda tells Rei she has to go home. The kids will be worried. But she says she’ll return tomorrow. Upon arriving home, she tells the kids she went to the movies. After she goes upstairs, Amalia wonders if she could have a boyfriend. Antonio thinks she might. But Quique only growls.

Pati calls her father, and then tells Simón he seems OK. Simón says not to worry about him (Simón). He has some savings, and he trusts that Reinaldo will get the restaurant back.

Bárbara almost finds something in one of the holes at Casa José, but Elio comes home and interrupts her.

MARIDO EN ALQUILER – LUNES – Part 4 of 4

Clinton invites Max to the Only Hotel in Miami for breakfast to meet with an investor, Walid.

Bárbara has started work and gripes about the uniform. The hotel manager introduces her to a rather hostile woman who is head of hotel cleaning. Barbie has trouble even pushing the maid’s cart. While the new boss is showing her spots to clean, she spots Max at a table with Clinton and Walid, the new investor, who is wearing a keffiyeh and thobe. She tries to hide. When she tells the boss she won’t clean there, she’s told she’ll be fired. Completely humiliated, she does as she’s told.

Amalia comes to Fashion Motors to apologize to Iván for not having told him about Rafa. [What? She didn’t know.] Iván tells her he thinks Rafa will be in the slammer a long time.

Max spots Barbie, and rushes over, definitely feeling pity.

The maridas are lined up in their overalls [I thought they were going to be red.] But the voluptuous one, Deborah, shows up with hers cut off and one strap down over one of her “assets”. Quique thinks it will be good for business. Griselda opines that this costume is the opposite of the style of business she wants to project. But she lets her wear it to see how it goes.

Fernando gazes at Griselda’s house and muses about her having escaped poverty. TC rolls up and goads him about the fire. He tells her Griselda doesn’t deserve it, but he’ll do it. TC: “When?” He says it will be after the big housewarming party.

Mario reminds Iris that, while her cell phone photo was deleted, he still has his! Joy all around!

Marido

My thoughts on that brief shot of Reinaldo sitting glumly on his bed alone after Griselda walked out (and before she came back):

The serious thought: Oh come on, hombre, are you for real? This morning you headed off for work with a kiss to the wife you can't stand, and look at you now--you're a free man and you've declared yourself to the woman you've loved silently (well, more or less) for months and she's told you that her heart belongs to you. And what? You're moping around like a frustrated teenager because she wasn't ready to consummate your love less than fifteen seconds after your mutual confessions of your feelings and less than twelve hours after your unofficial separation began? Give me a break.

The frivolous thought: What was actually going through Rei's mind: <>

The honest thought: Oh, I wish I could have inserted myself into that scene at that moment. (After putting a do-not-disturb sign on the door.)

Marido:

Damn it. I didn't know the <<>> signs would eat my words that. Spoiled it totally.

My frivolous thought was about what was actually going through Rei's mind in that moment: "Is it something about me? It's got to be something about me. Teresa Cristina could never get into it unless we were reenacting some cheesy Hollywood scene. Come to think of it--thank heavens Elsa didn't pack up the gorilla suit. I can't imagine how I would have explained that to Griselda. On the other hand, maybe...."

GENERAL-
I will continue to do my Monday recapettes of Santa.

Marido

A couple comments on artistic choices during the Griselda-Reinaldo love scene, addressed directly to the director:

What a brilliant idea! Having Juan Soler in his underwear. It only took you--how many was it--eighty-one episodes to come up with this? You were dressing him in so many suits, chef jackets, and shapeless pajamas that I was trying to estimate how many pounds he had put on since La Otra and thinking what a shame it was. (I am still wondering why we didn't see his front view, at least during the first part of this scene. But forget that--the shoulders and back view is good enough.)

And let's take a look at this other idea of yours, this thing of having the dialogue, whether it's supposed to have taken place at an earlier moment or it's their thoughts, play on the soundtrack as they make love. Seemed like a cool idea at the time, right? Oh, so innovative! Oh, how it keeps the viewers entertained in case they'd get bored just looking at the screen, right?

Wrong! There's a reason lovers don't have such extended flowery conversations at such moments--it's because it's a distraction. After my classes I'm going to come back and watch that scene again with the sound turned off. And then I'll listen to it, without watching. And then I'll watch it. And then I'll watch it...

MARIDO:

Thank you, thank you novelera for the excellent recap of last night's sexcapades. It seeemed like everyone was doing it last night! I'm glad that Gabe stopped things at just kissing. He was right that he and Ester were both too emotionally vulnerable to jump so quickly into a physical relationship. And it looks like JP is seeing just how empty his life is without Ester. He'll have to settle for being Van's sugar daddy. (How gross is it that she had another night of passion with JP wearing the same clothes and underwear as the day before!)

UtahDesert- LOL about what was going on in Rei's mind. He was being a man and thinking with his little head. But, Gris was just as eager to do the deed too. Glad they had their moment of bliss. How long will they be able to keep their relationship from their kids?

I know I shouldn't laugh at such low brow humor, but I had a huge laugh at TC and Jose's antics in the bedroom. :)

Don't fall for it Max! Barbie should have to work for her keep, finally.

Marido

Vivi, I've been wondering how long until TC cuts off Rei's credit cards. He could be in an ignominious position--the spouse with no resources who gets kicked to the gutter. (And of course his ego won't allow him to let his as-yet-unhired lawyer play hardball.)

We've been saying that he should have no problem finding backers for a new restaurant, but did Gourmet Palmer actually make money? (Didn't Simon recently make a crack about what millionaire restaurateurs could afford?) To what extent might it have been a vanity operation, serving first-class food and pleasing its patrons but not actually coming out in the black?

I'm one hundred percent certain Reinaldo could get hired as a chef (let's imagine the scene where he meets Barbie over her cart in the hallway and she refers him to her hiring manager down in the lobby), but are you sure you want to give him a restaurant of his own to manage? (Unless of course you're attracted to the male half of humanity and you have money to burn.)

MARIDO:

I am really hoping that Rei had some money, accounts, and credit cards that were his own and in his own name.

Unless they were serving food at cheap prices (not so, by the look on Iris' and Leo's faces when they saw the menu), then I don't see how the restuarant wasn't a financial success. It was always packed, got great reviews, and was even being courted by international press/reviewers.

Rei and Simon could for sure find financial backers to set up a new location. There was even mention the other day of Rei opening another Palmer Gourmet. He's enough of a successful celebrity chef to get investors. Gris might be interested in investing, although Rei might refuse out of pride, or not wanting to be in that kind of relationship again.

SANTA- Monday Part 1

Under the influence of the "truth drug," Vicente blabs that Bert is his son, not Gaspar's. Everyone is shocked but not as much as I would have thought. And nobody asks what seems to me to be the obvious question - what about the rest of Francisca's children? Francisca collapses and Santi and Bárbara schlep her off to the hospital. Santi sees Navarro, the guy who was urging him to leave town but he can't leave his mother.

Lucy is taking care of Willy and she finally remembers why Willy seems familiar to her. She remembers Willy coming to the Cano house to give music lessons to Daniela and somehow is able to see that the hairy guy in bed is the same guy.

Inés never does get to announce the sex of her baby. The party breaks up after Vicente's announcement. Vicente finds Inés in her room with a big wad of money. He asks what she is doing but she replies that he is dead to her.

Something is going on with Ulises in New York. He is at yoga class, comes home and what? His girlfriend has left? I had no idea what was going on there. Anyway, he returns to Marrero. Vicky notices that he has been crying but he won't explain.

Pancho gets some kind of a tip and the judge that Bert bribed to give Ivan a 35-year sentence is arrested for corruption. Naturally, that puts in doubt all his rulings as a judge, including Ivan's sentence.

After the party, Bert accuses Samanda of arranging the paternity announcement. He makes the connection with the pictures of Vicente that were left in his office. Samanda denies any involvement.

Begonia scolds Paula for getting involved with George. She says that it is a delicate situation now that Bert knows that Samanda is Santa but Bert doesn't know that Samanda knows. Paula replies that she didn't intend to get involved with George - it just happened.

Horti brings the baby to see Arturo in the hospital. Horti announces that the baby will be named after Arturo's dead brother. The doctors say that Arturo can go home but he needs a lot of rehab to be able to walk again. For the present, he is on crutches. Arturo also asks Horti about the progress of the investigation into the accident that injured him. Much to Horti’s discomfiture, including a flashback to her conversation hiring Carlos for the job, Arturo insists that someone was trying to kill Mara.

Francisca is only being held overnight at the hospital for observation but only one person can go in to see her. Santi tells Bárbara to go and then he leaves. The nurse is giving Fran a sedative when Bárbara comes in and she leaves a whole bottle of pills by Fran’s bed. When Babs leaves, Fran decides that she doesn’t want to wake up again and takes the whole bottle. It’s not too smart an idea to try and commit suicide in a hospital.

SANTA - Monday Part 2

Santi meanwhile has gone to the house where he met Navarro and he finds him there dead!!

Pancho comes home from work and leaves his gun on the table again!! He hasn’t heard what happened at the party. He goes to see Bert to tell him about what happened with the judge. At first, Bert won’t see him but finally he manages to tell him. Bert isn’t as happy as Pancho thinks he ought to be when he learns that the police will be investigating the sentences imposed by the corrupt judge. Bert tells Pancho that something happened at the party but he won’t say what. He tells Pancho to go talk to Vicente. He calls Pancho, “hermano,” “brother,” in what Pancho thinks is the friendly, “hey bro” way but we know that they are, in fact, half brothers.

Arturo is home. He protests at Horti’s plan to christen the baby with his dead brother’s name. When he goes to his room, Horti has Padre Milton come over and asks him to schedule a christening for the baby asap but only for her baby. She doesn’t want to share the ceremony with any common babies. Lisette overhears. Arturo is enjoying being back among the living and in his house when Lisette comes in and throws a tantrum complaining about Horti and saying that even though the baby was the result of a financial transaction, she still loves him.

Inés shows up at the apartment where Willy and Lucy are. Lucy tells Inés that she knows that this is Willy Delgado. Inés asks how she knows Willy. Lucy replies that Willy came to the Cano house all the time, which is apparently news to Inés as is the fact that Willy was sent to jail for molesting Daniela. [Where was Inés when all this happened? How could she not have known?]

The guy that Bert hired to take photos of Santi shows up at the house to drop off the latest batch and get paid. Naturally, Samanda hears their whole conversation. It was pretty sloppy of Bert to conduct such a transaction in the front hall of his house.

Finally, Paula shows up at the Cano house and announces that she is moving in. She tells George that she has accepted his offer. Bert says that he won’t stay in the house with Paula there. George replies that since the house belongs to him, Bert can leave if he doesn’t want to share a house with his (George’s) pregnant girlfriend.

Gracias Jean
I believe it was Patricio that bribed the judge, he wanted Ivan away from Victoria. And Ivan is Bert's son.

Inez was probably in the hospital recovering from the forced abortion when Willy was arrested, sentenced & sent to the basement.

Santa
Was Paula fired from G-Cano?

SANTA:
Thanks, Variopinta, you are right that it was Patricio who bribed the judge. I don't know why I remembered it as being Bert, which doesn't make any sense.
Bert was about fire Paula when she quit.

BELLA CALAMIDADES:

I'm at home today and watching this show. Is anyone else watching? Is the heroine cursed or something to have all men fall in love/lust with her? Why does every single man and boy shown have a thing for her, and all the women hate her and believe she's responsible for every bad thing that has happened?

Hi Vivi: I'm about to go home for lunch where I watch Bella Calamidades. Lola is supposed to be cursed with bad luck and being irresistible to all beings with a Y chromosome seems to be part of it. I wouldn't say that *ALL* the women are against her - Regina and Lorenza support her but the fact that Lola lived for a while in the cemetery when she first came to town seems have convinced most people in the town that she is a horrible, dangerous person.

Santa,

thanks so much Jean!

they didn't show the Ulises thing very well, but I think he went home early to make arrangements for Victoria's wedding, but as he quietly walked around the apartment, he (and us) could see into the bedroom, and judging by the bare feet at the bottom of the bed there was some boinking going on, and from what he told Victoria earlier, this was the love of his life.

Pancho got the judge cold, actually recording him taking a bride.

it was an interesting scene, Humberto and Amanda in their bedroom, Humberto devastated, then accusing Amanda for Vicente's reveal, even though he didn't know how she did it, and of course it wouldn't have changed the facts, but it's like as soon as he cracked that smug Santa thing she had going, and she started getting upset and striking back, his demeanor changed, and he relaxed a bit, got his cool self going, and walked away, satisfied.

at the hospital Santiago was ready to go meet the mystery guy, but Barbara was hanging on, not wanting to be left alone, George turned the tables on her, Humberto is no longer her true brother, her mother has betrayed her, her father is dead, she felt so alone, only Santiago now, but when she went in to see her mother, her expression changed, and she just ripped right into her, and afterwards she found Santi had left, and she was alone.

this guy taking pictures of Santiago, I only noticed him at the first meeting with Navarro, I wanted to see those new pictures, is Humberto involved here somehow other than just watching, and is Santiago taking that gun with him everywhere now?

SANTA:

Thanks for the recap, Jean, I haven't seen the episode yet, but Navarro is dead! Wow.

Kelly: I'd also like Vicky to stab Pat on their wedding night, as in Lucia di Lammermoor. But since in the opera, Lucia then went crazy and died, and when her boyfriend Edgardo found out, he stabbed himself, maybe we'll have to rework Vicky's ending. I'd really like Transito to have some part in Patricio's eventual downfall, she's been so hurt by him (and by Carlos).

Marido

thanks for the wonderful recap novelera!

I was stumbling around with the fish words, thanks for straightening some of that out for me.

so the two main married couples, TC/Rei and JP/Esther, and a lesser couple Gris/Jose, are all with new partners, I guess that only leaves Manuel/Celesta as our only stable married couple, (are Max and Barbie married?)

so funny, Iris leaving her flash turned on when she was sneaking pics of TC/Jose.

btw, LRdS showed up on the tv schedule today, Monday the 11th, and Marido moves back to one hour in the early slot.

MARIDO:

Deb- Yes, Barbie and Max are married, and are getting a divorce. There is a total reshuffle of couples happening right now.

Barbie trying to move from Max to Quique (but maybe trying to hang on to both).

JP moving from Ester (and Marcela) to Vanessa, while Van moves from her crush on Rei to JP, and Ester moves to Gabe.

Gabe moving from Gris to Ester.

Rei moving from TC to Gris, and TC moving to Jose.

Tony moving on to Bea (while trying to hold on to Pati), and Simon moving on from the ex-wife we never met to Pati.

Penny moving from Leo, while Vicente tries to get Penny to move on to him.

Clara moving on from Quique, and possible future hookup with Gabe's cousin

New couples: Ivan and Paloma; Alba and Elio

Old couples: Celeste and Manuel (why?); Rafa and Amalia (his coming clean will reunite them); Iris and Mario; Diosa and Gigante (whatever their thing is)

SANTA

Jean, I enjoyed the episode and then reading about it in your snappy recap since I actually got to watch the show in real time last night.

Deb, have there been any overt mentions of the gender of Ulises's lover? Have we checked off "malignant homophobia" on our Telemundo scorecards yet? That might explain a few things.

So where WAS Ines during the Willy Delgado storm? Isolated? Institutionalized? Drugged? All of the above?

Is Lucy's big mouth finally going to buy her a slab in the morgue? (Because Ines will do ANYTHING to keep her secrets secret.)

And why do I care? I don't know. But this one just keeps me coming back for more!

MARIDO:

Oh, and Sol and Daniel as a possible future couple. Is Ro the only main character not hooked up or potentially hooked up? Seems unfair, doesn't it? A boyfriend might just do him good and end the TC obsession. Oh, Fernando doesn't have anyone either. Hmmmm... Maybe TC had the right hunch about him and Ro...

MARIDO - lunes

Novelera, what an amazing, funny and fishy job you did with this double episode. I had pretty much given up on the show but after reading this (and UtahDesert's Rei-worship), I may have to start picking through the ick for the juicy, shiny bits.

Thank you so much for this beautifully written, yet remarkably concise recap. And thank you for quoting what Reinaldo said to Griselda (Desde que una noche de luna llena…). Sigh indeed.

Santa
I just watched. When Ulises walked into his apt, there were clothes thrown around & a reflection of feet in the mirror, his novia was in bed with someone. I catch a lot more on the computer than on the TV.

Barb really has some nerve, she was having at it in the car with the chofer, went to a hotel with some guy that beat the hell out her & robbed her, was in bed with 2 guys, putting the make on Willy & she criticizes her mom!!!???
But she explains it away by saying that Geo is an infeliz, oh ok.

Did you see (Horti's baby) little mouth suckling? He needs his mama, can Horti take care of that? I haven't seen a baby bottle yet.
I hope Arturo, Lisete & the baby leave town, leaving that bitch all alone with her miserable self.

Santa
Bad night all around.
Vicente is dead to Inez for an additional reason that Willy was in the cellar.
Francisca is dead to Barb, & she just might be for real.
Somehow I think Humberto is going to come out the winner over Geo.

BELLA C.:

Jean- Just finished watching the two-hour episode, and really there was only one woman in the whole show who supported Lola (the skinny maid). Even the two ladies you mentioned who supposedly support her were more concerned about keeping her away from their sons, than in her well-being. They didn't seem to care much that no one knew where the poor girl ended up. Jeez! With friends like that...

Santa

NovelaMaven, someone mentioned once that Ulises may have/had a boyfriend, and so far I don't think they have indicated either way.

the way this story is written/produced things are just off enough to give us, the viewer, an unsettled feeling, like Pancho once again leaving his loaded gun on a living room table, Willy no longer in chains, and of course anything that has to do with Lucy.

so it looks like Ivan might be able to make it to the wedding, didn't Pancho tell Humberto the case would be reviewed and he wouldn't have to do anything, as if Humberto has even gone to see Ivan in the 6 months since they hauled him away, what is it with Humberto that he just let's everything slide, unless of course it has to do with Santa.

would somebody just do something with Willy's fake hair, comb it even, when Ines first romanced Willy-in-chains and dove in for a kiss, you couldn't even see his mouth.

yes Variopinta, I agree, George is totally out classed going up against the Cano's.

Santa
I think Pancho would be in big trouble for just leaving his gun lying around except in a TN. Is that going to cause future trouble? It s/b at least be in his rm, preferably in a looked drawer. tsk tsk, top cop!

I want Vicky to have the pleasure of killing Pat. I think we have some surprises coming from her. Ok if Transito does it though, or maybe a combined effort, just make him suffer.

Marido

After waiting so long for Gris and Rei to finally hook up, I found their love scene so disappointing. Sweet and gentle is nice but those kisses were so bland. I know Gris was nervous because its been so long since she's been with a man. But come on! She's no kid. She looked stiff as a board, kissing like she didn't know how. Wonder if it was the actress or the way the scene was written. Shockingly, TC and Jose were more enjoyable.

MARIDO

Novelera--Your recap was read carefully using an entirely different point of view (a recap is in my future). It was very satisfying and I like your style.

Thank goodness it was you attending to all the fishy business. When TC seductively said "Róbalo" to Jose on the phone, I would have translated it as "Steal It" and would have lost my way.

Quique did growl, but to give his brain cells a little credit--he called Gris out on the fact that she told them she was going out and it was for personal business and then when she returns and announces she went to the movies, it didn't jive. For once Gris didn't have a quick riposte.

Loved the gentle, romantic hotel bedroom scene with Rei and Gris. So different from the Barbie and Max maulings in the same hotel.

I didn't expect Gris to come back that night, nor be able to open the door without a key card, but hey, never mind the details, it worked for me. I just wish TM would show some respect for these delicate scenes and quit cutting them in mid-abrazo or mid-coupling.

Vivi--right you are--Fernando AND Ro are partnerless. Poor Fernando is between a rock and a hard place, but so cold when he said to himself that burning the house down with everybody in it was nothing personal. Nyaa, it was very personal--his personal reputation.

As good-looking as he is, in and out of a uniform, he deserves to botch the job and kinda burn up himself.

MARIDO:

I can see what you're saying, but the love scene rang true to character for me for who Gris and Rei are (especially as it was Gris' first time after SO many years, and only the 2nd man she'd ever been with). I would have been really surprised had the scene played out like the Quique-Clara animalistic scenes; the farce of the TC-Jose scenes; or the I'm Too Sexy Barbie-Max love scenes.

Wow! You guys are very chatty today.
Alreay 50 comments and it's only Monday - AND we only have two shows to talk about.

SANTA

That scene with Ulises made me wonder.... since this is Santa Diabla and nothing is ever how it seems, what if Ulises did more than just run out after he caught his gf/ bf with someone else? What if he killed them, too? Why else would they show that woman he met at the front door when he arrived and when he left, too?

I don't understand why is Lisette putting up with Horty's crap. If Arturo doesn't help her, she should just take her baby and leave.

I get that Santa's whole purpose in life is to make the Canos suffer but she really annoyed me when she didn't even try to comfort Humberto, just for show if nothing else.
This game she started with him, trying to make him spill the truth, is very dangerous - I don't know if it was Carlos Ponce's delivery or just the line was funny, but when she kept pushing for him to say something and he warned her - no te pases de lista (don't be such a smart a.ss)- I clapped my hands - no matter what she does Humberto always gets the upper hand.

Also, isn't it extremely convenient that the Canos had so many secrets that all Santa has to do is play some tapes, play with some photos and her enemies are toast?
What has she actually done so far that has truly hurt them in a serious way? They lost their fortune because of Gaspar's bad financial management, the law firm is back on track, revealing the truth about Humber's paternity was just a lucky break - a information she used to her advantage because it just fell in her lap.

And what is that idiot Santiago doing? I find his whole sl with the Guatemala drug lord such a waste of time

MARIDO

Thanks for the kind words about the recap, all! I kind of enjoy doing them, but two hours per night is tough!

Vivi, I'm with you! And with Josie. Griselda and Reinaldo are mature people. There was plenty of passion, but this was a long-desired union of two people who love each other very much. Ripping at each other's clothes would have seemed very odd to me. Sonya looked amazingly beautiful in the close-ups.

SANTA
Hombre- True about Victoria. Maybe she can still go nuts (because she seems a little too tightly wound) but Transito does the actual stabbin'. She should go to prison anyway so why not take a bad guy out before she goes? She seem nice enough and is probably as beaten down as Victoria, but she's also helped to buy women who clearly didn't want this life. She could have turned in Carlos and gone for full redemption, but now she has a debt to society to pay. Just as long as somebody stabs Patricio.

MARIDO

Vivi, I got tired only reading about all shifting in couples - Thank you for the rundown, with so many characters it's not easy to keep track.
I'm glad things are finally developing, it could be because of the 2 shows/ day situation.

If Fer and Ro are the only ones unattached, then they should totally go for it.

After being a Chef in a fancy restaurant for so many years, Rei should have his own fortune - or at least enough money to last him a while.

I'm sorry, but I don't see Esther and Gabe clicking... when I look at him I still see that shmuck that used to cry over his Gris all day long.
Too bad JP turned out to be such an idiot, I still think he's the best guy for Esther and the actors make a very believable couple.

I bet Vanesa is a little upset that she didn't wait a little bit longer before hooking up with JP when she could have had a chance with her original crush...

Santa

"no te pases de lista " tks Adriana Noel for that. I was wondering what the most El Listo character said.

Ok now, what is Humberto's real game, except to save himself from the frame of Willy Delgado, which now we know WD did it. So no frame. I sure hope we are not in for a letdown. It's happened in a few books I've read, great suspense, great story & then blah.

SANTA:

That Hortensia is something, telling the Padre that her son Arturo is sort of off in the head from the the coma, and Lisette frivolous and never prays. Therefore, Horti gets to plan the baptism. And when the Padre is surprised that the baby will be named Felipe, Horti lies and says, oh yes, both Arturo and Lisette are totally in agreement!

I hope Ivan can get out of jail soon. Sifuentes and Pancho were discussing that maybe he's innocent. But there may be a problem. The corrupt judge was paid by Patricio. Pat will not want this to come out. So, maybe he'll "silence" the judge.

It IS silly that when Bert accused Sam of not loving him, she said how could I not? Why would I have married you? Tell me! And he, of course doesn't want to talk. But he was doing the same thing to her a few months ago. I sort of enjoy their little games.

Ultimately, George may be no match for Bert. But he's doing pretty well these days, having acquired the house behind their backs, bringing Paula in. And he's even dressing much better! No more red jackets, he's much smoother now.

SANTA

Hombre, I kind of enjoy Santa and Humberto's staring games, too, especially since they both suffer from a serious case of 'he knows - she knows' - let's see who cracks first.
As always, I bet my money on Humberto. How in the world can Santa ask him if he doubts her love with a straight face? Have they even slept together in the last 6 months?
Geeez, no wonder Santa is pissed at Paula for getting it on with George, she's frustrated - and I would be, too, if I had a hot piece like Humberto Cano in my bed every night and I had to keep playing the ice queen in order to preserve the loving memory of my dicktastic husband and that lame-ass Santibore.

¿Dónde está Elisa?

NovelaMaven I was trying to say that ¿Dónde está Elisa? is reairing on Mun2 at 6 but for some reason My dish satellite says Pasión de Gavilanes. Elisa is the Mun2 replacement for Pasión. And it starts this week. I missed yesterdays cap but i saw it online today.

¿Dónde está Elisa?

Oh, I see, Novelman. If you want to write about the show, go ahead. (Remember, though, that a lot of people around here saw it the first time around.)

SANTA:

The judge may have been bribed to give Ivan an exceptionally long sentence but he was still convicted of murder and drug possession by a jury. Maybe looking into the judge's corrupt practices will bring to light other evidence that Ivan is innocent. In and of itself, however, the fall of the corrupt judge should only mean that Ivan maybe gets 10 or 15 years instead of 35.

Marido

My classes are over, and so now I have the time to give this episode the attention it deserves. Seriously--can you think of another episode of any TN that has consisted primarily of sex/make-out sessions involving the four prettiest mature couples on the show? (The only exception to "pretty" is Jose in his tighty whities. I think by now he's spent easily half his screentime in his underwear. And the only exception to mature is Vanessa.)

So let's look these love scenes over, in order of prettiness:

Bland? Bland? Reinaldo licking Griselda all over? That's bland? Given that she asked him for calm and patience, we knew it wasn't going to be wild unfettered passion, but I thought it was very appropriate to the storyline. From what she said, we knew she was going to be passive, and he was gently and slowly and surely making love to her. Yeah, sure, more visible hunger would have been kind of cool to see, but there was no lack of that in the rest of the episode. And they certainly made a lovely composition at the end there, in their blond and tanned gorgeousness, draped strategically in the white sheets, personifying the Mexican popular-culture "light-haired and blue-eyed equals beauty" trope.

JP and Vanessa--my first thought was "Get a room." Sure, now he's sole owner of Fina Estampa, but this is still kind of tacky. Other people come in in the morning and have to work at that table, y'know. But JP does bring the pretty. While Vanessa in her two-days-old outfit brings the shallow.

Gabe and Ester are close runner-ups to JP and Vanessa in the pretty department. Anyone else notice that she didn't even tie up her robe over her skimpy teddy set when he turned up at her door? Lately the two of them are in the running for most sensible and sane characters on this show, so they're kinda cute together.

And then there's Jose and TC in their utter adorableness. She seemed so innocently happy during their bedplay that she was truly less annoying than usual. I had to keep reminding myself that she's a would-be mass murderer and is unlikely to be redeemed. You have to wonder whether if she had met a soulmate like Jose years ago she might have been a harmless kook rather than a heartless harpy.

Marido

Novelera, I agree that Gris and Rei ripping at each others clothes would have been unbelievable. Like I said, sweet and gentle is nice. Just found Gris' kissing awkward, barely moving her lips. Even Gabe and Estella looked more passionate kissing while also being sweet and gentle with each other. Though them timing the kiss was kinda silly to me. Glad though that Rei/Gris are finally together. Sure took long enough.

Josie

Bellas Calamidades
Vivi, Jean: I'm watching this at lunchtime, it's somewhat trite but in an enjoyable way. I can't really warm up to the Lola character but I like everyone else, and so many actors I've seen in other shows.

General:
Anyone know what is happening at 8:00 PM?
Just saw a preview for the start of Reina del Sur on Nov 11 at 9:00 PM.

Thanks--
J in Oregon

General:

JinOregon- I believe the new schedule will be Marido at 8; Reina at 9; and Santa at 10.

Bella:
I liked all the familiar faces, but nothing really drew me in from what I saw today. Is Katie Barbieri in a gazillion tns? I swear I saw her in like 3 tns this afternoon.

MARIDO Tuesday

Part 1

Mario shows Iris the photo that he took with his phone – she’s determined to use this proof of her niece’s sexy romps more wisely then the last photo they had, look what TC was capable to do to Reinaldo.

Fernando doesn’t want to hurt Gris and his family, they are his friends, but a menacing look from TC makes him cave, at least for now.

Max asks Barbie what she’s doing at the hotel – she explains that it’s the only place she found work, and she’s only doing it to get her son back.

TC calls Rei to tell him their lawyer will take care of their divorce and, also, she has taken a lover, which has given her a terrific night. So there is that! Rei strikes back, by saying that he spent a great night, too, with a princess.
TC is surprised to hear this, but that is nothing compared to what she finds out next. Manuel overheard part of her talk with Rei and tells her who Rei’s new squeeze is: Griselda Carrasco.
Cara de psihopata impactada de TC.
Later she tells her lawyer that she plans to take everything away from Rei, no matter how much it will cost her.

At the Maridas tienda, Q and Gigante notice how happy Gris is – Q knows this has nothing to do with owning a business.

Rei and Simon used Simon’s key to get inside Gourmet Palmer. They both remember how hard they had to work to turn the restaurant into a success. Rei doesn’t feel bad over his marriage, but he won’t allow TC to destroy his life’s work.
They go over their financial situation, Rei decides to give all the food left in the fridge to a charity and he’ll pay the salaries to all the employees, Simon included. He knows he doesn’t have to do it, but he will, anyway, it’s only fair.

Pati, Vanesa and Elena talk about the restaurant, too. Vanesa tries to get the latest scoop on Rei’s love life and his possible involvement with another woman. Pati denies this, but Vane pushes some more, almost saying something compromising about her own interest in her amiga’s dad, until Elena stops her. When Pati leaves, Elena notices that Vanesa must be sad that she didn’t wait a little bit longer before hooking up with JP.
Tony tries to talk to Pati but she brushes him off.

MARIDO Tuesday

Part 2

Scene of Elsa and Ro wondering why Manuel is so happy all of a sudden… FF
TC remembers Manuel’s words and is willing to allow Gris and Rei to be happy for now, since she’ll make sure it won’t last too long.

The Maridas tienda is ready to open its doors. Gris decides they won’t have a party for the inauguration, after all – they’ll celebrate with hard work.
A first caller at the tienda proves to be Rei.
Gris tries to keep the discussion as casual as possible, hiding the person she’s talking to from Q and Gigante, who are all ears. Rei suggest that maybe they should tell everyone the truth – but Gris thinks it’s too soon for that.
After she finishes up with Rei, Q tries to find out who was on the phone – he’s sure it was a novio and promises she’ll have all her kids’ support, provided that she tell him who the mystery man is.
Gris is not willing to share, and just then they get their firs phone call from a client, so they go back to work.

Tony sees Pati leave on Simon’s moto and he’s pissed. Daniel tries to calm him down, but Tony thinks Simon is too old for her – he can’t wait to see Rei’s face when he finds out.

Simon and Pati are at the beach, walking. He’s more than willing to help her with whatever she needs. Pati thinks he’s amazing and realizes she’s been wasting her time with little boys until now. (Hear, Hear!). Simon mentions the age difference between them – about 10 years and assures her that to his adoring eyes, she’s not a child.
He wants to kiss her, mentions that he’s willing to take things slow, do it right. She’s more than willing, too, and bang, first kiss. It’s nice, but too short, in my humble opinion.

Fer and Paloma meet on the beach, it’s been a while since he’s been around. Paloma thinks that TC is working him too much, Fer tries to hide any connection with her. Just in time for Ro to show up and say that Fer receives all kind of caricias and mimos from TC. Paloma wonders what that was all about, Fer pretends that Ro is just a crazy, not to be trusted, loon.

Leo sees Peny with Victor on the beach and sighs. Peny sees him, too, she’s not willing to confront him, but she won’t say anything to Clara, either.

Clara feels overworked, especially since Gabe started neglecting the tacos bar to spend more time with Esther; she snaps at Alberto- Beto or whatever his name is. Later, when Gabe comes back to work, he warns them both to behave, or else…

MARIDO Tuesday

Part 3

Esther and JP talk on the phone about Rei and TC breaking up. Esther is happy for Rei, JP agrees that TC is a hard pill to swallow. When he tries to enquire more about what she’s been up to, she gets rid of him by mentioning that she’s doing baby stuff.
She’s with Gabe, hanging out, drinking lemonade.
Later Esther explains to Amalia about a delivery service she thought about for their business – this way the busy clients will be able to receive their merchandise at home. Amalia loves the idea and she hires a driver to deliver the creams.

Rafa comes to see Amalia; he tells her he was allowed out of jail for the duration of his trial, so, he has a few more months of freedom left. He knows Amalia doesn’t want to see him until he serves his time, so he promises not to bother her. I love you’s are exchanged, Amalia promises they’ll be together after he settles his debt with society. Rafa agrees, but could he get a kiss from her to keep him warm in jail? Absolutely! Smooch.
Later Rafa meets Leo, who offers to give him some money – Rafa refuses them when he finds out it’s dirty money.
Ivan decides who’ll be the next in charge of the moto shop: Susana is sure the job is hers, but Ivan chooses Eduardo! Heh!

Gris is wearing overalls, too, she’s going with the maridas to supervise the first job.
After the first day of work is over (everything went great) Gris wants to close the shop as fast as possible and Q wonders if she’s in a hurry to meet her novio. Gris denies, denies, denies, but when she gets some alone time, she quickly calls Rei – she can’t wait to see him, she’ll be at his hotel as soon as she takes a bath and changes.

As night comes, Jose is still looking for the treasure, as Fernando comes to ask how the search is going. He starts to investigate the walls on his own, while Jose expresses his doubt that a treasure even exists. Barbie comes from work and goes to her room, pretending not to pay attention to them. Fer warns they should be careful with her, but Jose thinks she’s too tired to snoop around. He thinks she’s an idiot, not a threat.
He couldn’t be any more wrong, though! Barbie listened to all the conversation and when she’s alone in the house, she starts to search for the treasure on her own.
And she finds something.

MARIDO Tuesday

Part 4

Barbie finds a box filled with some antique cutlery. She thinks the pieces could be very expensive, maybe they’re even MINGY Dynasty (hehe). She realizes she can’t keep them in the same house with the idiots searching for their treasure, so she takes the box to the hotel and after some shenanigans with her manager, she succedes to leave it in her locker.

Gris is home, all cleaned up and getting ready to go out. She won’t tell Q where she’s going, though, so he’s sure she’s meeting a man. Little Q suggests him to call his mom if he wants company, too, which prompts Q to remember the kiss he and Barbie shared outside his house. Little Q draws a conclusion: when he misbehaves, his dad still loves him, so even if his mom misbehaved, Q still loves her, too. Smart kid!

Before leaving the hotel, Barbie runs into Gris and tells her she agreed to work as a maid in order to get her son back. Gris suggests her to spare the effort, because she’ll never have Little Q – and what if when she finds a rich man, she’ll leave him again? She’d like to believe in this so called change, but nobody ever truly changes and Barbie will never have Little Q.

TC is at home, waiting for her stud to pay her a house call. Jose is at the taco bar, having his dinner, which he doesn’t money for.

Rei is waiting for his visit, too, and with champagne! When Gris arrives, they kiss, talk lovable pleasantries… to think they tried to escape this love. They drink to their newfound happiness.

Q tells Amalia he suspects Gris has a romance, so she calls Celeste to further investigate. But la comadre doesn’t say anything to Amalia, she promised Gris discretion. Manuel assures her that the one person they were trying to hide this from, TC, already knows, because he told her himself.
Celeste hurries to warn Gris over the phone – she’s with Rei, he thinks they shouldn’t worry, since he’s a free man. After Gris hangs up, Rei says they should tell the kids the truth. Gris thinks it’s still too soon, especially considering the relationship between Tony and Paty.
But TC already knows and Rei is afraid she might tell Pati and put her own spin on things. Gris is sure TC won’t do that, though, because she has her own secret to keep hidden – she’s sleeping with Jose!
Rei is surprised but agrees that this switching partners game would sure mess up with the kids’ heads, so they better wait before telling them, even if their feelings for one another are so beautiful: they’ve been in love from the first day they met. They won’t be able to keep their secret for much longer, though, TC will try to do something, she’s sick, Rei is afraid she’ll try to harm Gris.
Gris assures him she’ll know how to defend herself. They smooch some more.

MARIDO Tuesday

Part 5

Jose arrives at TC’s house, Ro tries to keep him out of his reina’s bedroom, but to no avail.
When he gets upstairs, TC is waiting for him in her sexy lingerie. He comes in, takes her in his arms and throws her on the bed, his withies make another appearance… TC looks very turned on.

In the meantime, Doctor Alba is enjoying her own sexy time, with Elio; he has his way with her right there, at the consultorio. When he leaves, he writes his phone number on her breast. Classy!

Tony is taking Beatriz on a date and they end up in the same place where Pati and Simon are - the tacos bar. Tony is so focused on what the other two are talking, Beatriz soon leaves, realizing her date couldn’t care less about her. Pati notices them, too, but she seems to be having a great time with Simon – after dinner they plan to go dancing.

Esther is at home, trying to choose the best design for the cream bottles. JP used to do this with her, she remembers with sadness.

JP is with Vanesa at Fina Estampa, trying to find out what are her skills. She’s a flirt, though, making the job interview very awkward and completely unprofessional. JP thinks she should start in production, but, get this - she wants to design the new collection!!! To his credit, JP doesn’t burst out laughing, but he does say this isn’t necessary a good idea. She tries to convince him to give her a chance, by planting herself in his arms and kissing him.

After the love making, TC ended up with her clothes ripped once again. Now she gets all mysterious about something she plans to do to Jose’s ex mujer. He doesn’t think Gris cares about him, but he understands that TC is planning a great surprise. She’s not willing to share that with him, though – how about they get back to their sexy business?

Paloma and Ivan are together, too, they’re already talking marriage and kids – they’re both very happy and in love. Cute!

Jose is about to leave; Ro is upset because TC replaced him, before he was the one who kept her company; more fishing double entendres ensue.

Gris is about to leave Rei’s room, too. They talk about her first day of work, how she wanted to supervise everything. They kiss some more, he’d like her to stay on…Love…

The next morning Tony whines to Q about seeing Pati with Simon. Q is upset, too, because Gris has a new guy and no, it’s not Gabe. Tony thinks they should investigate the issue, their mom listens the whole conversation from a hidden corner of the house.
Later Daniel comes to pick up Tony and they go to school. Gris asks Q if he had news from Barbie – all that silence worries her.

TC finds out JP didn’t sleep in the house, she hopes he’s not with some tramp in the city….
Well, about that…
JP is with Vanesa, having breakfast at Fina Estampa. He’s still not ready to give her the designer job, though. Glad to see that he still has some functioning neurons in his head – if before we thought Fina Estampa would go broke without Esther, having Vanesa on board as a DESIGNER is a sure sign that poor company is going down the drains.

Barbie is at work, asking for some time off from her manager to go talk with an antique shop owner about the value of what she’s found. Still wearing her maid uniform, she only brings a knife with her and apparently that sole piece is worth about 500.000 Dollars – and if she has a complete collection, it has to be even more valuable. But, the owner of the shop inquires, how did she get her hands on such a treasure?

SANTA DIABLA, Martes, Part 1

Here we go again, descending down the depraved depths of our dark, dank, but dramatic duel of Diablos and Diablas!

Santiago is shocked to find Navarro dead on the floor, shot in the head, blood oozing. He pulls his gun, looks around, but no one is there. He knows he’s in trouble now, and heads back to the Robledo house to get his suitcase.

Inés really never knew about Willy being the music teacher at the Canos, the sexual harassment, the incarceration. Apparently that’s when she was drugged up in some hospital after her forced abortion. Lucy provides some details, but Inés isn’t sure, and leaves to get confirmation. Before leaving, she gives Lucy a wad of cash, and threatens that if Lucy talks, Inés will blame everything on HER. After Lucy leaves, Willy says to Lucy, Inés is crazy. You’ve got to get me out of here! Lucy doesn’t know what to do.

Inés goes to the Cano place, finds Daniela, asks is it true you were sexually abused by Willy Delgado? Dani is taken aback, doesn’t know what she should say, but squeaks out a yes. Inés has her confirmation, saying, then Willy is a BAD person! Huh, says, Dani, what do you mean “is”? He was killed in prison, didn’t you know? Inés gets that faraway look, half smiles, pursing those pink glossed lips, and says no more.

Santiago has packed his bags, and is just about to leave when his phone rings. It’s the hospital, Francisca is in the emergency room, tried to kill herself. Yes, the nurse had absent mindedly left the bottle of sedatives on Fran’s dresser. Bárbara had visited in the room, told Fran she was dead to her, and after she left, Fran agreed. She swallowed the whole bottle. The nurse had come back, accidentally stepped on the pill bottle on the floor, saw Fran was unconscious, and they pumped her stomach. Santi leaves his bags under the steps, rushes back to the hospital. After he leaves, Inés is there and sees the bags under the steps, makes another of her cryptic faces. At the hospital, Santi is angry at the staff for being so negligent. He stays with his mother for a while, but eventually he has a waking nightmare about Navarro, and realizes he has to go.

Meanwhile, Lisette and Arturo are not taking Hortenia’s abuse lying down (well Art was lying down, but this gets him up). Lisette wants Art to take them both and the baby away. He wants too also, but he’s got no cash. He hasn’t worked in the bookstore in months. He has a bank account, but it’s joint with Horti, and needs her signature for withdrawals. Drat! They struggle into the living room and the Padre is still there. They tell him they did NOT agree the baby will be named after a drunk (Felipe). And THEY will decide on the baptism, under their conditions. Lisette tells the shocked Padre that she was PAID to marry Art and give Horti a grandchild. Horti denies, the money was just medical expenses, you know. Yeah, right. Lisette continues, I’ll pay back every dollar, but you (Horti) don’t have anything in writing. So this baby is MINE! She defiantly picks up the child, hoists him into the air, and screams her ancient tribal roar of motherhood! (Not really, but it would have been fitting). Take THAT, Hortensia!

Somehow, it turns out that Iván IS going to be released. Let’s not ask how the corrupt judge’s capture equates total freedom for Iván, but that’s what Sifuentes and Pancho say. Meanwhile, Iván has continued to hallucinate, hasn’t eaten in days. It almost seems as if he’s going to die from hunger. But no. He tells himself he’s going to LIVE. He’ll fight the hallucinations, they’re just thoughts from his own brain, and he can turn them off. He eats his food. The guard says you have a visitor. I don’t want to see any, he replies. No, this is some OFFICIAL who wants to see you.

SANTA Part 2

Ulises still won’t tell Vicky why he left New York, and she says she’ll stop prying. He wonders about her wedding, she doesn’t seem totally into it. What’s she doing now? She’s baking a cake, her own wedding cake (the wedding is tomorrow, I think), it’s all going to be very simple, just a plain cake, a small ceremony, right here in the house. But here comes Pat, with lots of guys bringing in boxes. He gleefully tells Vicky he’s hired the most expensive caterers, candelabras, champagne, caviar, they’re going to transform the house into a wedding palace! He gives a wad of cash to one of the delivery guys, prompting Ulises to tell Vicky that maybe she has limited funds, but PAT sure doesn’t.

Vicente wants to talk to Bert, explain why he had to keep the secret quiet that Bert was his son. After all, hasn’t he always been like a father, or even a friend, to Bert? They work together, in all their sneaky stuff, and he’s been loyal and faithful. But Bert doesn’t want to hear this, saying I’m a Cano! My father Gaspar raised me to be one, and I’ll always be one. You’re a traitor! And by the way, he adds, if you have any ideas of hurting Amanda, FORGET them! Don’t you touch her. Vicente is a little surprised by this, and so are we viewers. Why does Bert like Samanda so much? She’s mean to him, sneaky, haughty, they never sleep together. And yet he’s smitten, can’t help it. Weird.

Vicente is so upset, he decides to seek the solace of Elisa. She answers the door, he says I’ve lost everything. She snaps at him, yes, and that includes ME! How DARE you come to my door now, after 6 MONTHS of snubbing me, treating me like a lower class person! I fell for your tears before, but not this time. Get out! She slams the door in his face.

Samanda and Paula have their usual sniping, Sam’s not happy about Paula and George (neither are Barb or Bert, of course). But Paula says just as Bert married Sam to be close to his enemy, Paula moving into the mansion lets HER keep close to the enemy. Sam isn’t so sure. Begoña also heard that there might have been something between Willy Delgado and Inés (news to her, although Santi told this to Sam). At one point, Begoña is walking around upstairs, wandering through the halls, saying to herself, what should I do now? I don’t know, but if it ever comes out she was Willy’s lover, Begoña is REALLY gonna be in the soup.

Samanda finds the pictures Bert had taken of Santi, showing him with a gun, associating with strange people. Bert says see, your holy Santi is no Saint! What’s he doing with guns? Sam really doesn’t know.

But WE do. Santi is on the run. He leaves the hospital, kissing his sleeping mother goodbye, and gets ready to flee, but right outside the hospital, there are three big thugs, wearing black suits, with shaved heads. Santi knows they aren’t here for anything good, and breaks into a sprint. He also draws his gun. He eludes them for a bit, but can’t quite scale a wall. He turns and points the guns at the guys. But they grab a homeless couple. They shoot the man. Then they grab the homeless woman, and Santi can’t bear this, puts down his gun, okay, don’t hurt her. A hood is thrown over his face, and he’s pushed into the SUV, driven to somewhere, and in a richly decorated room, a tall, handsome bearded guy (who was recently Alberto Espino, the whiny engineer in La Patrona) tells the guards to take the hood off from Santiago. Allow me to introduce myself, he says. I’m Franco Garcia Herrera!!!!!!!

Bella Calamidades

I agree that this is a mediocre novela, which may be why it never made it to prime time in the US. But it's enjoyable to watch when I'm home for lunch & I've invested the time in it so I will see it through to the end. It does have an amazing number of actors in it that I have seen from other novelas.

SANTA: Thanks for the great recap, Hombre.

It's probably pointless to try and impose any legal reality on a novela but I guess that the judge being corrupt could cast doubt on how he conducted Ivan's trial and thus on the jury's verdict.

Bert, the supposedly great lawyer, should have been in court as soon as he heard about the judge demanding that the verdict be thrown out in Ivan's case.

Lisette is going to give back the money she got from Horti? She should just keep it and the baby. As she pointed out, there is no contract and selling babies is illegal anyway.

This new bad guy, Herrera, isn't someone we know, is it? I wondered why they were hiding his face when he was with Santi.

Marido

Regarding Simon and Patty: Simon rocks the white t-shirt, and I'm glad to hear that the age difference between him and Patty is only ten years.

Regarding Ester: Of course she would say the absolutely right thing--that she's glad that Reinaldo is finally free of that "monster." I think Ester is remarkable among attractive women in telenovelas in terms of how sensibly and realistically she behaves. For years she had a successful working and romantic partnership with JP. Yes, she blew it all by her insistence on getting pregnant through IVF, but this is also believable. She realized having a baby mattered to her more than anything, even though she'd ignored her own feelings about it for so long, and so she acted decisively. And even though this has had huge costs for her in terms of her relationship with JP and her professional life, she has taken responsibility for those losses and has done zero--literally, zero--whining about it. She's got a huge amount of dignity and serenity--thanks to both the writing and the portrayal.

MARIDO

Adriana--Super job. I have very big talent to have to follow tonight. I'll be making my debut Live and No subtitles, so help me out with misinterpretations.

I thought they cut Simon and Patti's first kiss off too quick and spent an inordinate amount of time with Barbie arguing with the hotel manager to get back to her locker.

I was certainly hoping against hope that the ivory cutlery was a tourist imitation and Barbie would have to keep on working. She actually looks quite cute in her maid's uniform.

Gris should at least own up to the fact that there is a new man in her life y PUNTO. She doesn't need to identify him AT THIS TIME. She's been so honest with her kids up to now, they ought to understand the concept of privacy. Shame on Amalia for calling Celeste, but if Gris doesn't put their speculations to rest, those kids will only continue to pester her.

I wish Rei would move out of the hotel and into a furnished apt. There he can start cooking! OTOH, it took Rei & Gris so long to put all his things away it might as well not have been in vain.

When Rei & Simon were in the restaurant, he and Si discussed the cash flow. Apparently the bottom line is not very good because they just did their *big* shopping for supplies and will have to wait until the end of the month to recoup from patrons. Bad sign.

Santa

thanks so much Hombre!

Willy has a nice touch, caressing Lucy's hand, the electricity running up her arm, and he does have a point, Ines is NUTS!, but all that money, ooo, what to do, what to do?

I don't have a problem with Ivan being set free, he was tried by a corrupt judge, that throws everything out, and the state has the right to retry him, (but only after the wedding).

so Humberto joins Patricio and Victoria in haunting Ivan, coaxing him to die, (we can see why solitary confinement is considered punishment, Ivan being there to protect him, say what is he writing, can't be I love you Victoria stuff with her standing right there telling him to die)

so Santa forgives Paula for moving in, Begona tells her about Ines, and Santa crashes the Willy party in Daniela's bedroom, (and Daniela's escape from reality is just not working so well).

and Santiago leaves his packed bags in the living room for all to see, why not put them in his truck, he must be getting desperate, because he's not taking his sax, I guess the logic here is that if Santiago runs, Ines and the baby will be safe, (hmm, not in the narco novelas I've seen), but now I wonder if Franco wants something.

MARIDO:
Utah, totally agree with you about Ester. She realized her choice was out-there given the type of marriage she had, but thought JP loved her enough to do something crazy for her. She quickly realized that wasn't the case and cut her losses and didn't whine. I still think it's sad that she's gonna end up with Gabe because JP and Ester were a great couple, and he really should've swallowed his pride and supported Ester.

Rei is gonna have to borrow money from Gris to re-open the restaurant which he prolly balk at since he's just getting out of a marriage to a woman who used her money to manipulate and lord over him. I'm guessing the money issue will be the central tension between Gris and Rei since they are compatible otherwise.

SANTA
Great recap Hombre. I'm not watching this one or any TM TN, but I'm loling at Christian Campo aka Alberto Espino , the consummate pretty boy, as a scary drug don out to get Santi in SANTA. I might tune in just to see if he can pull this off.
Sa

SANTA DIABLA

I got an RP vibe after hearing that Big Willy had sex with Daniela. Its not "abuse" since she initiated it. But i dislike Willy since he cheated on his wife and we now know that he lied to her when he said he never had anything with Daniela.

SANTA

Can Santa be more of a hypocrite with Paula?
Don't get me wrong, Paula is one of my least favorite characters, but has Santa forgotten how she was planning to forget all about her blessed revenge and run away with Santiago, when she still believed Willy was a saint?
How is Paula hooking up with George any worse than she falling in love with a pure Cano?

NovelaMan, Willy never abused Daniela, but she was supposed to be 14 (!!) when they "fell in love" - never mind the abuse,he still deserved to end up in jail for being a perv.

Ok, so Santiago is the hero and Humberto is the lovable villain, but Willy is the one who gets all the ladies' attention.
Never mind Santa, Ines, Barbara, Daniela, Begonia (am I forgetting someone?), but now Lucy likes him, too? Even if he looks like a vagabundo? I guess some men have this effect on the ladies...

Deb, I don't have a problem with Ivan getting out of jail, either, but could he please stay away from Boretoria? She's such a downer, he should move in with his mom, help her get crazy Horty off her back and bond with his little brother.

MARIDO

Anita, don't worry about the recap,m you don't need any special training to do it - I only started at the beginning of this year, recapping Passion Prohibida - I loved that story and needed to share my thoughts with others so much, that the words practically write themselves.
BTW, love your avatar, Amor Bravio is my favorite tn from recent years. Have you gotten the chance to check out Cris de la Fuente's new tn?

Utah, I love Esther, too, she's so elegant and put together. Her baby fever was a little sudden, but it was realistic and the actress played it very well.
And look at Esther now - she's trying to start a new business, take care of her baby, lead a respectable life, while JP is practically jumping from bed to bed, choosing to become a sugar daddy and possibly make a full of himself on the long run.

J desde NYC, I wouldn't count out a JP/ Esther reconciliation just yet... in telenovela world anything is possible.
I agree with you about Gris' money possibly becoming an issue between she and Rei, if he ends up with nothing and she'll want to help him financially. There is no way Rei would agree to be in a relationship like that again.

SANTA

Adriana- I thought that Paula was the hypocritical one. "Why can't you just be happy for me?" she says to the woman she yelled at for falling in love when she was supposed to be sleeping with her enemy she married. I actually like George and Paula together, but Paula wanting understanding from Santamanda is a little much.

MARIDO
Simon is only 10 years older than Paty? This seems optimistic. Nice guy, but only 32 or so? I don't think so. It's like Victoria (back to Santa) being twice Ivan's age, 38. Nice try, Victoria.

Kelly

MARIDO

Thanks so much for the fine, detailed recap, Adriana!

Guess we have to change Raffish Rafa to San Rafael after he turned down Leo's drug money!

Juan Pablo is such an idiot. Why in the world didn't he have the cojones to tell Vanidosa Vanessa immediately that her plan to promote herself from restaurant hostess to designer at a world-renowned fashion house is the craziest thing since Kim Il Sung said his birth was foretold by a double rainbow in the sky?

I didn't quite catch it, but it appears Deborah did something a bit inappropriate at their first job, something about legs, but Gris let her off the hook and admitted her work was fine, as was that of the other maridas.

I hope Beatriz never goes out with Antonio again. What he SHOULD have done was leave the restaurant when he saw Pati and Simón and go somewhere else. Instead, he made the other 3 involved in this scene uncomfortable.

I would say the hallmark of Griselda and Reinaldo's relationship is RESPECT. He apologized for not focusing more on her company's first job and then was quite interested. They mutually admire each other's profession.

Utah Desert, hear, hear!! I really liked the way you described Esther's behavior up to this point.

Yes, Barbie has a problem. Any reputable antique dealer has to know about what they call "provenance". This issue has been foremost in the return of much fine art stolen by the Nazis and returned to families of the Jews from which it was stolen. The current owners of those art works didn't steal anything, but their provenance; i.e. a clear legal ownership trail, could not be proven.

Marido

Adriana, let's be fair to JP. As far as we know he hasn't even spent the night in a bed for weeks. Bed-hopping? Table-hopping, rather.

At this point I'm already dreading the upcoming plot-demands-manufactured conflict between Griselda and Reinaldo. My bet would be like yours and J desde NYC--it will be about money. Realistically, here's how that disagreement should go:
G: Let me give you money to start a new restaurant. I know it will be a success and I have plenty to spare.
R: I'm sorry, but I've learned not to mix relationships and business. It would feel just too similar to how I started Gourmet Palmer. Anyway, I made a few calls and now I've got potential backers breathing down my neck.
G: Okay, that makes sense. Want to make love?

But instead we'll get something obviously contrived and painful to watch.

SANTA -- martes

Just brilliant, Hombre. You kept up the pace right from the dazzling alliteration in the first line.

I'm fascinated by the point of view here. We are used to novelas in which we, the viewers, get to be omniscient. We can tell the good guys from the bad guys, we listen to their thoughts, we know their past. But here we are always getting the rug pulled out from under us. The WRITER is omniscient and we are bumbling along just like the characters.

It reminds me a little of David Lynch…

I love seeing Willy emerge from his filth and hair and rags as the master seducer. Old, young, beautiful, homely -- he is the Man Who Loved (Loves) Women. Even shrill Lucy is falling under his spell. Amazing.

I am finally liking Lisette. I hope Ivan does come looking for her and helps her get free of Hortensia.

What a great show this is!

SANTA DIABLA

AdrianaNoel I thought that Daniela was 16-17......

Novelera: You get my vote for best comment this week with your Kim Il Sung double rainbow! (And now it seems like the only possible way to sum up Vanessa's idea.)

I think Barbie would have a better chance at selling her "Mingy Dynasty" knives if she dressed up in the least outrageous of her old duds, did up her hair and nails, and waltzed into a different store. Or maybe, if they decide to go real with the "provenance" issue, she'll have to find a fence and settle for a good deal less. (Or maybe Jose will steal the knives back, ideally sneaking into the hotel locker-room dressed in a maid's outfit.)

Anyone else love the Griselda-Quique interaction the last couple of shows? I adore this portrayal of mother and son. The dynamic is just what you would expect, given the characters and given what age she had him, the younger children, and the father's absence. I'm starting to appreciate Roberto Manrique's acting skills as well, especially his comic timing. Not to mention Kikito and how he's directed--the cuteness of him balancing on the couch arm to give his abuela a hug and then bouncing onto the couch.

SANTA

NovelaMan, from what I remember, Daniela was 16 when the tn started, 2 years AFTER Willy's "death". I might be wrong, though...
Either way, Willy was still about 30... When I was 16 I thought boys older than 20 were yuck, but I know that most women like older man better.

MARIDO:

UtahDesert- ITA with your comments on Q, Kikito, and Gris. Actually, I enjoy the way the whole family interacts with each other. Q and Gris have a unique relationship with each other because they both grew up together, since Gris was 14 when she had him, and co-parented three kids together. He is like her brother, her husband, and her son, all rolled into one (and not in a creepy way).

MARIDO:

Great and detailed recap Adriana.

I was very happy to see how at ease Pati was with Simon and that she didn't even bat an eyelash at Tony and Bea on their date. I hope Bea never goes on another date with that jerk.

Santa
Gracias Hombre, mighty fine as always.

I laughed at Ivan's delusion with Victoria sitting on the toilet in his cell.

In Pancho's office at the station, is a map of Mex. The old Mex, which takes in Tx, AZ, NM,CA, NV etc.

NovelMaven, You hit the nail on the head about the writers holding the truths about the characters and not the audience. No one is as they seem at any given moment which I happen to be enjoying....

I was really glad the the writers made it clear that the pill bottle that was left at Fran's bedside was not normal operating procedures. Santiago let the doc have it by asking "what kind of hospital are you running here!"

If the narcotrafficante group is in Marrero because Humberto ratted his brother out, then Humberto has really hit the bottom of the slime pool. I thought Bert brought Navarro to town as a ruse to get Santi out of town .... not that Navarro was really running from the Narcos for real...

Need to keep watching to get this one sorted out.

SANTA

Oh yeah, Mena, that scene in the hospital was classic:

Nurse: Here is a pill to help you sleep.
Patient: Good. Sleep. I want to sleep and never wake up.
Nurse: Uh ok. I'll just leave this open vial of sleeping pills on your tray.

I'm so glad you mentioned it!

LA REINA DEL SUR

We recapped this novela when it ran on Telemundo from February, 2011 through May, 2011. I got these dates from NovelaMaven's Telemundo Index on the Caray, Caray sidebar.

Do we want to recap again for the re-run?

It was a fabulous novela, but we'd certainly need more volunteers if we were to re-recap.

Reina
Is there a way we can get to the old recaps? I plan to watch it, everyone says its even better than El senor de los cielos, which I thought was fantastic.

Do we know when it starts yet?

LA REINA DEL SUR

I found when the novela ran, but I don't know how to get back to the time period of the recaps and view them. Maybe NovelaMaven and/or Jean would know how we could do this.

The re-broadcast begins on November 11.

LA REINA DEL SUR

We started discussing this novela here:

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2011/02/el-mundo-de-telemundo-week-of-february_25.html

You can access weekly postings from the link on the main blog sidebar. Personally, I can only do this when I am using Firefox as my browser.

We didn't get into formal recaps immediately but the discussions are kind of interesting, in retrospect.

SANTA BARBARA, Miércoles, Part 1

Franco stands tall over the seated Santiago. He gives Santi a few shocking revelations. Gloria, his wife, with whom Santi had the affair, came from one of the richest families of Guatemala. In fact, that's why Franco married her. For her money. What better way to finance his drug purchases? And the extra bonus? No one would suspect that the husband of an almost princess was doing anything illegal! But, asks, Santi, if you didn't really love her, why are you so mad at me? Because no one messes with me, or my “possessions”! Then just kill me now! screams Santi. Oh no, you're not getting off that easily, replies Franco. I'm going to make you pay. He gets out some pictures. Let's see, you've got a pregnant wife named Inés, right? She could have an accident. And your mother, Francisca, tried to commit suicide. What if she didn't fail? Franco proceeds to name all of Santi's family members, down to Daniela, even Iván, a total of seven. And Franco's going to kill them ALL.

Dani has been questioned by Inés about Willy, but is very uncomfortable about this. Enter Samanda, and she goes along with Dani's improvised, oh hi, Amanda, we were just about to talk, right? So Inés leaves in a huff, and Dani's grateful. But Sam wants something in return for her covering for Dani, and that's info as to what Inés wanted. Dani proceeds to give the “known”story about Willy Delgado, that he was an abuser, and is now where he deserves to be – dead. This enrages Sam, who walks out, finds Begoña, and tells her, that's it. Pack your bags. We're leaving. But she's not just jumping ship. She's going to destroy the Canos. All of them. Tomorrow. Begoña wonders, but what about Santi, I thought you had feelings for him? Sam thinks back to the pictures of Santi with the gun, tells her mother Santi isn't the man we thought. The plan's on.

Willy sure is a sly one. He tells Lucy that Inés is the one who imprisoned him. Why? Because she's nuts. And if you make one mistake, she'll imprison YOU in that basement! Lucy is terrified, who, me? Sure, says Willy. Or, you could be sent to jail as an accomplice. So the only option for you is to help me escape. You can tell Inés I just overpowered you. But do you know where I could hide? Lucy does. AND THEY KISS.

Pancho is the official who was visiting Iván. Iván doesn't give him much chance to talk, says I know you hate me. And don't think your brother Carlos was any kind of saint. But Pancho has a conciliatory tone, tells Iván he just found out he's the half brother of Humberto. So you, Iván, are my nephew. My only nephew. Iván isn't impressed by this, but he sure perks up when Iván shows him papers that say that Iván is getting out tomorrow!

Yes, tomorrow, also the day of the wedding. Ulises asks Pat, when I left six months ago, you had no job. Now you're throwing money around. What's your job? I'm a businessman, says Pat. Oh yeah, in what type of business? Pat glares at him, says, what do think, I'm a criminal like that bum Iván was saying? He tells Ulises his business is importing meat. The juiciest meat around! From Central and South America. After he leaves, Vicky asks Ulises to come with her somewhere.

It's the Trebol de Oro! Transito greets her warmly, but is uncomfortable that Vicky's there. Vicky reminds her she's to be the maid of honor at the wedding.

Santi tells Franco to just get it over with and kill him. But leave his family alone. Franco has other plans. He's going to do things his way. He's going to let Santi go. If he talks, 7 lives will be lost. And the next time Santi sees Franco, he'll find out what Franco wants him to do.

SANTA, Part 2

Inés visits Bert, asks about Willy Delgado. Bert tells her the same stuff, Willy was a rapist, and he got what he deserved, was killed in prison. They don't like rapists there. She mumbles out that he seemed to be a good person, and Bert says no, he wasn't. Inés feels faint, stumbles out, thinking to herself, my God, I'm pregnant by a rapist! She bumps into her Dad, and he wonders what she was doing talking to Bert. Never mind that, she asks Vicente if he knows where Santiago is. No. Well, Papito, I think he's packed his bags to leave. He doesn't seem to love me. Why did he marry me? Did you have something to do with it? When he was in jail for that false passport, did you make some kind of deal with him, to marry me, even though he didn't love me? Vicente denies it. He'll find out why Santiago is trying to leave, and bring him back.

It's tomorrow! Santiago is dropped off on the ground outside Inés house. Inside, she's thinking, what the heck did my father do? Santi stumbles in, and she greets him warmly. She tells him the baby she's expecting is a girl. Santi promises not to abandon them.

Samanda calls a reporter named Morales, who's been following the prestigious career of Humberto Cano. She identifies herself as Santa Martinez, and tells Morales she has quite a story for him.

Ulises tells Vicky that he's really surprised that Transito, with whom Vicky is such good friends, was Pat's alibi. He thinks Transito was hiding something. Her hand was trembling, and she kept looking at the door in fear. Could Pat and Transito be more than friends? Vicky assures him Pat hasn't even been to that place in months. Cut to that place, where Pat is discussing the situation with Transito. She tells Pat that the brother seemed to be suspicious. Pat says the guy's smart. But he's smarter. I think Transito IS going to the wedding. This will lay Ulises's suspicions to rest.

At at this point, I pressed the wrong button, and missed the rest of the episode! Can someone else fill in what happened in the last 15 minutes? Help!

SANTA:

I meant Santa Diabla, not Santa Barbara! This is what happens when I try to do the recap at night. Hmmm. Lesson learned.

SANTA -- the last 15 minutes, miércoles
(from memory and not in order)

Ivan is released from prison. And waiting outside the gates for him is his new Uncle Pancho. He is on his way to a wedding that might interest him, he tells Ivan. Victoria's wedding.

Hortensia is so enraged at Lisette for outing her in front of the priest that she throws her, Arturo and the baby out of her house. They can't even pack a suitcase since all their belongings were bought with Hortensia's money. (And poor Lisette threw all her old clothes away when she thought she was in the money!) Where will they go? They are broke and homeless. Even so, Arturo is grateful. At last he is free of Hortensia!

Mara is standing behind some trees, watching Hortensia's house for some sign of Arturo. Lázaro catches her out. How could she sink so low as to stalk Arturo? And how could he himself sink so low as to follow her there?

While they are trying to decide who is more obsessed and pathetic than whom, Arturo, Lisette and the baby emerge from the house. Arturo, struggling on his crutches, falls. Mara wants to run to him, but Lázaro holds her back.

Lucy shows up at the Trebol de Oro with a friend that needs help. Could Transito put him up -- just for a few days? It is Willy, of course, (though he says his name is Pedro) and soft-hearted Transito can't turn him away. Nor does she seem immune to his gift of attracting the ladies. She sends him off to shower and shave. He gives himself a haircut too and comes out of the shower looking like a new Willy. Or do I mean like the old Willy.

Santiago drives up to the Cano house and tries to stop Samanda. He wants to tells her what happened to him -- it's very important. But she is on her way to do something that is also "very important," and she brusquely brushes past him and gets in her van.

She makes her way to reporter Morales's office where she prepares to Meet the Press.

Inés comes looking for Willy and finds his bed empty and Lucy stretched out on the floor. Willy conked her on the head and escaped! What could she do? Inés drags Lucy to her feet. They have to find him!

MARIDO En Alquiler – Wednesday, Part 1

Antique Shop: Barbara is still trying to negotiate with the Antique Shop Owner about her ivory knife. He wants to know where she got the “merchandise.” She says she “found” it in the street. A.S.O. thinks she stole it. Indignant, she leaves and goes back to the hotel. Guess who, of all the people in Miami, shows up immediately in the A.S.O’s shop? Devious little Lenny. He must know the guy, he asks for an advance. They dicker. He tells A.S.O. that he knows the girl that just walked out and will share what he knows for cash. Lenny gets the money and spills the few beans he knows about Barbie—how she used to run with Max Durán and now lives in the house with her ex’s father. Now he wants more money.

Hotel: Reinaldo is getting ready to leave the hotel for parts unknown. Maid service knocks. It’s Barbie. Rei looks at her and asks if they know each other. No, not at all. Satisfied, but still a bit puzzled, Rei gets on the phone and calls Griselda, calling her by name, while Barbie listens and learns. Gris ends the convo with a “don’t come looking for me, don’t call me, I’ll look for you,” but in a nice seductive way. He meets the manager on the way out who tells him the credit card he was using to hold his room was rejected. Rei is astonished. He calls the bank. TC has cleaned out the joint account.

Taco Bar: Gabriel is trying to settle his staff & customers down. Everybody is griping about something. Then Ester calls him. He moves away from the little pitchers as Ester says she’s feeling fine, thanks to him. Gabe says if that is the case he’s going to have to charge her. How much? Mil besos. She’ll pay. He’ll be right over to collect.

TC Mansion: Teresa Cristina is sitting in the kitchen reading the paper. No, she doesn’t miss Rei’s cooking at all. Ro gets Elsa to leave telling her that the vacuum cleaner (aspiradora) is calling her. Ro gets right down to brass tacks with TC. So, without a restaurant, what will happen to Rei? TC doesn’t know and doesn’t care? Surely he has some savings, Ro thinks. Rei’s savings were in a joint account. Ro asks if the use of the past tense means it isn’t there now? Ro pleads Rei’s case. TC is decidida. So Rei is done for? Yes, and tell Elsa to take the day off.

This Old House: José and Elio receive a visitor. It’s the A.S.O. guy asking for Barbie. The fellows want to know why. Oh, she recently applied for a job in his store. José gets a momentary fantasy when A.S.O. says it’s a women’s lingerie shop. Nevertheless, José recovers and mentions it is odd since she already has a job, as maid in a nearby hotel. A.S.O. gets the address.

Fashion Motors: Eduardo is having his first staff meeting as new manager. Susana is present and pithed and gives Ed a piece of her mind. She leaves and runs into Rafael. She raises a ruckus immediately, accusing him of having said something to Ivan to make him turn against her. The voice level continues to rise as does their ire. A fight ensues and Rafa hauls off and smacks Susana a good one. Before he can apologize (or do it again) Susana yells for the police and Rafa gets detained. He blames her for starting it, but it doesn’t do any good. Susana is smugly satisfied and is more than willing to file a complaint at the police station. Diosa (I think) and Penny see it all and it’s a Must Tell Chisme for Amalia.

Santa

thanks so much Hombre!

I wasn't getting what Franco wanted, so he will tell Santiago later, hmm, is there a chance Santiago can get out of this or are they all doomed anyway. So the seven would be ??
Ines/baby
Francisco
Barbara
Daniela
Ivan
and Humberto, but I don't think I heard his name mentioned.
(Santa and willy didn't seem to be on this list)

and thanks so much NovelaMaven for the last part, I really miss your recaps!

this show gets so complicated sometimes that I forget that all of these people are connected somehow and when something happens to one, it ripples through to the others. I was caught by surprise when Pancho told Ivan he was his uncle.

So I guess it's just Humberto and Vicente at G-Cano, who aren't talking (no matter how much Vicente pleads), who have separate offices, but no secretary, but Vicente said he's find someone.

and did Transito's eyes get wide when Willy walked off to the shower nude.
(I was surprised they didn't offer Transito any money, she just has this heart of gold, and did she say she liked Lucy, even though she was hard to be around, or something like that)

and of course stalker Santiago followed Santa to her news conference, and overheard that it will be about exposing Humberto, and wants a quiet word with her, I'm starting to understand why willy is the way he is, hanging out with these people, once again his bags are packed and ready to go.

Marido en Alquiler - Wednesday, Part 2

TC Mansion: TC is all in a dither because she’s anticipating a visit from the fishmonger. The gatekeeper phones, she admits the caller. Guess who it is? Not the fishy man but Rei. He gets right to the point. Does she really think she’s going to keep all his money? TC tells him he’s barking up the wrong tree and to see the lawyer. Rei says he’s not leaving until he gets the money back she stole. TC says he’s the one who stole from her, after all the years of investing in him for him to be unfaithful. Rei tells her he should have left her a long time ago, but now he won’t leave without his money.

The tactic doesn’t work because TC claims she’s within her legal rights—it was a joint account after all. She threatens to call the police. He doesn’t budge, not without his money. They fight over the phone and start trading insults. She calls him an adulterer. Everything was Mio, Mio, Mio. He was just an employee, a gigolo. She is not about to let him spend a single one of her dimes on the ex-bigotuda. Rei says he was never unfaithful to her while he was with TC. Yes, he desired Gris, but he never had anything to do with her. She, on the other hand, was busy 'revolcandote con ese pescador; que asco.’ (getting it on with that fisherman; how loathsome) That stops her short. Who told him that? Is she going to deny it? TC contemplates her answer, mmmm, at least he doesn’t hide who or what he is behind a mask of respectability and he knows, mmmm, how to satisfy her. Rei aims and fires, she’s so basic, anything satisfies her. They deserve each other. So, is she going to give him what is his by right? He reminds her that he worked for years and years and everything he ever made went into their joint account.

TC wonders whether she’ll have to support him or he’ll become the other one’s gigolo. Rei snorts is she kidding him? Never. She did all this to humiliate him in public. Yep, and she can’t wait to see his name splashed all over the news. Rei has news for her, he won’t give her the satisfaction. She asks how he’s going to live, then. Rei answers smartly, he’ll work. He always has, not like TC or anyone in her family. Now a reminder—*her* employees in *her* restaurant are waiting to be paid. He walks out the door.

Paloma’s Beachside Cabaña: Gris is walking on the beach and greets Paloma. Paloma says she looks different, her eyes are shining. Gris announces that she’s happy and in love and Paloma knows who. Paloma guesses Rei. Bingo. And to be sure her reputation is maintained, swears there was nothing between them while he was with his wife. (Waiting until he left her is a mere technicality, we note, because they are still m.a.r.r.i.e.d, not divorced.) Paloma knows Rei is a good guy, always was and didn’t deserve to be saddled with TC. Now she’s worried for Gris because TC could be dangerous. Gris has no idea the things she capable of.

Marido en Alquiler - Wednesday, Part 3

Police Station: Amalia runs into Susana and Susana lets Amalia have it, verbally. Yes, what she’s doing will hurt Rafa. That’s the whole point. Amalia doesn’t understand why. Susana lets it rip about how Amalia was being used and then Rafa turned the tables (literally) on Susana and whining that she had the goods on him and was about to turn him in but gave him “everything,” yep, right there on the table and then he deceived her as well. Amalia gets to confront Rafa. He tries to make excuses but only digs himself deeper into a hole. Susana finishes with the formal accusation and goes back to Fashion Motors. She apologizes to Ed for her behavior and promises to be a good colleague (ya, right). Later, Amalia cries to Ester and Ester tries to comfort her by saying that boys don’t think the same way women do about love. We all make mistakes and you’ll get over this, just look at me, I’ve almost forgotten JP (ya, right).

Fina Estampa: Vanessa arrives. JP has been thinking about Vanessa’s proposition. He tells her, yes (fool), but on one condition. She has one month to create the whole collection. Do it well or forget about everything (does that mean forget him, too, if she fails).

This Old House: José is on the couch thinking. Elio has been working. He’s convinced there’s no treasure. José is convinced there is. Elio is tired of making holes. They simultaneously see the hole Barbie covered up. Since José never covers up his holes, he knows someone else was at it. They investigate. They find nothing.

Hotel: Antique Shop Owner is seen in conversation with the hotel manager. He shakes the manager’s hand. He must have learned what he wanted to know about Barbie. Now it’s quitting time but Barbie is still in the locker rooms while the other maids are out the door. She tells the supervisor that she wants to stay behind to fix her cart for the morning. She’s ditzy with the idea that she can cast off these rags because she’s going to be RICA…ooops the box is gone. She goes upstairs yelling for the nice manager man that she’s been robbed. They go downstairs to the lockers and he tries to show her that maybe she left it open. No she swears it was locked and she had the key. Manager shows her the lock wasn’t forced. The supervisor wants to know what it was that got stolen. Barbie won’t tell, not even to the police. She finally backs off and says it was nothing valuable, just something of sentimental value. (Hmm. could it be that A.S.O. palmed some money off on the Manager to let him check out the locker—and here I thought the Manager was such a nice guy.)

There will be more parts to come.

Marido en Alquiler - Wednesday, Part 4

Palacio Gris: Reinaldo has come to recount everything that has happened so far to Griselda. Gris is calm, reasonable and sensible. The law must be able to help him. It just can’t be fair to have this marriage dissolved and leave him with one hand tied behind him. He tells Gris that he’d been hoping to buy out his part of the restaurant with his savings. With remorse, he realizes he shouldn’t have trusted TC. Gris mentions that if it’s just a matter of money. Nopis, he will not hear of it. Gris wants to know what the problem is with her money. Isn’t it any good? Rei says, sincerely, that’s not it. He went through this once with the money of a woman he cared for and got burned. Gris wonders if he’s comparing her to TC. Not at all. He just doesn’t want to comit the same error.

He’s ready to start again from Zero. Gris admires him so much. Kiss Kiss. He has to go. Gris promises to come to the hotel if she can, but she wants to see her family first. Too many kisses delay Rei’s departure and Antonio arrives to find the two still holding hands. He stares at them and Gris reminds him of his manners. Q arrives with Q² and greets him pleasantly. Antonio asks Gris what “he” was doing here and will they ever be rid of this family. Well, Gris retorts, you could start by forgetting Patricia. Later Q wants Gris to come clean—is “he” the reason you’ve been acting so silly and strange lately, Patricia’s father? What is going on with Reinaldo Ibarra. Gris reminds him that she doesn’t discuss private matters with her children.

TC Mansion: Ro asks TC that if Rei asks for spousal support would she do it? TC says, after thinking about it that yes, she would, a miserly sum, but she really wants to see his name splashed all over the gossip pages.

La Posada: Tony is up in his room in the Palacio daydreaming to Desnudo Estoy over Patti’s picture while at the Posada the real Patti and Simon are saying their good byes. They’ve had a great day together. He appreciates that she can be truthful about her feelings for Tony. She tells Simon that he makes her feel secure, unpressured. She thanks him. He’s looking at her endearingly and says he doesn’t want anyone to ruin what they have. What exactly is it that they have, she asks. Simon says that for him it is something very special. He doesn’t want to be with her for a lark or a temporary spell. He’d like to see their relationship become formal. Patti’s eyes say it all. Wow, like a noviasco? She doesn’t know if she’s ready for that. He appreciates her sincerity, and smiling with crinkly eyes he says, no pressure, he’ll wait for her. Here endeth Tony’s fantasy.

Taco Bar: Gabe is talking to Q about work. Everything is great at Maridas and Gabe says same here. Q tests the new guy on taking complicated orders. That done, he turns and sees Barbie right behind him. She’s been working and just wants to eat where the food is good. Gabe gets a call. It’s Ester. He gets all mushy when she tells him she likes what is happening between them.

This Old House: José returns home and wants to now where Barbie is. Barbie appears. José confronts her. He knows she found something and took it. He wants it back…and she doesn’t know what he’s capable of, so out with it, or he’ll kill her, as he roughs her up a bit. Barbie swears she doesn’t have anything of his and she’s not afraid of him. But she can tell by the look on his face, it’s sure to be something valuable. Does he think that if she had found anything of value she’d come back to this dump? Barbie wriggles out of this dilemma by throwing suspicion on TC, who had also been in the house or maybe even Gris.

Marido en Alquiler - Wednesday, Part 5

Hotel: The manager comes to see Rei about the bill he’s racking up, but not to worry. Rei is worried, he pleads for a little more time to straighten out his financial affairs. Mr. Manager looks a little funny and Rei wonders if he wants him to vacate immediately. No, says Mr. Manager, he has a proposition. Is he willing to listen? A proposition?

Mr. Manager knows he’s a world famous chef and goes on to explain how competition among hotels are like sharks and tigers circling each other (he didn’t say that, I did, but that’s what he meant). Each wants a leg up on the other. He feels it’s time to give the chef some fresh advice, revise the menu, streamline the kitchen, retrain the staff, etc. If Rei is willing to take on this work, they will adjust his bill accordingly. Rei seems very pleased with the offer and he’s seen later in the kitchen performing his new duties happily.

TC Mansion: TC is alone and pacing around her living room. She doesn’t know what to do with herself. She needs a slave. She calls Ro. He’s ready for bed (or some action) and tells her he has company (his company has two legs with a scorpion tattoo on one of them), but he jumps when she says jump. He’d better be there in 5 minutes.

Ro takes a little detour to Sol’s house and teaches Sol some fancy (?) dance steps. Right outside their place, Manuel and Ro watch an officer of the peace putting up a wanted poster. Ro faints when he sees a Blonde Bombshell and recognizes TC. Fortunately, Manuel doesn’t recognize TC’s mug. Manuel carries Ro into the house. Hijinks ensue as Many tries to bring Ro back to consciousness. When he does he heads for the TC Mansion to tell her what he saw—as he has a flashback to TC trying on the wig and dark glasses. At first she denies everything. Ro must be imagining things. Ro persuades her to come look at a poster. To her horror, TC recognizes herself. She wants Ro to go out and find every single poster and rip them all up.

Palacio Gris: All Quiet on the Condo Front. Gris grabs her purse and checks on each one of her kids. She goes in to comfort Amalia and it is clear the next day that she didn’t make it to Rei’s hotel room.

Police Station: Some folderol goes on in the holding cell when Rafa is menaced by a very pretty boy who likes them tough. Rafa is taken away kicking and screaming after punching they guy’s lights out, all the while yelling not to try that again or next time he’ll kill him (not smart, given where he is). The officer in charge is convinced Rafa is a very dangerous man.

TC Mansion, next day: Ro wants to know where she went that day she was pretending to try on a costume and disguise for a party that never took place. Ro wants to know what TC did to get her picture pasted all over wanted posters. He *has* to know what crime she’s committed because he might end up an accomplice, heaven forbid.

She blubbers that it’s all the fault of “La Otra.” He keeps probing, which Otra, Marcela? Bingo. She tries to dismiss him for the day. TC finally admits to having sent her to hell by her own hand. Ro doesn’t want to hear anymore. She insists on making him listen while she tells him everything (poor Ro). TC finishes her story and Ro is repulsed by it all. He doesn’t understand why Marcela was so dangerous to TC but he’s ready to go pull down any and all posters of the Blonde Bombshell. The two leave over Manuel’s objections to not being the driver.

Marido en Alquiler - Wednesday, Part 6

Hotel: Simon has come to see Rei and they talk about what TC did. Rei feels responsible for all the staff and urges Simon to be the spokesman for the staff and go talk with TC about paying them their due. He knows that if Rei asks, she won’t do it, out of spite because she knows it's his money. Simon is surprised by Rei’s new job and they part with a few words about what Patti knows. Rei says she doesn’t know and doesn’t want her upset anymore than she already is. As for himself, he’s not depressed, he’s never been happier.

This Old House: José has to wake Barbie up.

Hotel: Barbie makes it with one minute to spare. She’s left to get herself ready and finds the knife in her locker. She’s sure someone is playing with her. But who?

Taco Bar: Gris is having coffee. She asks Gabe how it’s going with the novia and there she is right behind her. Gris recovers her aplomb, greets Ester, notes that she's beginning to show and tells her how happy Amalia is to be working with her. Then she reminds everyone about her upcoming fiesta.

Fina Estampa: JP gets a folder from Vanessa. It has her first design in it. (I got a brief look at some very juvenile drawing of either a bikini or ladies’ underwear before my screen went blank. I’m going to imagine JP was scratching his head.)

University Grounds: Simon is thinking about what Rei said about Patti while he waits for her. He catches up with Patti and they talk. Tony overhears and oversees Patti agreeing with Simon that something *is* happening between them. Simon wants to know if it could be considered a noviasco (engaged is quite a leap, I would think they’d want to go steady first). Patti answers yes. This deserves a beso, yes? Yes, they kiss gently while Tony fumes. (My DVR cut off here, so I couldn't review it for accuracy, sorry.)

This turned out to be very long winded. Too many folks were having conversations that seemed important, to me anyway. I'll try to lose some of the verbiage next week.
Anita

MARIDO

Anita, thank you for the superb recap. Very well done!

About Pati and Simon - noviasgo doesn't mean they are engaged, it means they are boyfriend/ girlfriend - dating - engaged would be comprometidos

I really hope Gris listens to Rei and doesn't try to help him bu giving him money - even if she and TC are very different, it is perfectly understandable that Rei doesn't want her money.

SANTA

Thank you for the awesome recap, Hombre!

Of course Transito would think Willy is hot - wait til she sees him without all that hair.

I wonder what will happen with Lisette and Arturo now. Is he friends with Pancho, could they crash with the Robledos?
Horty is worse than I imagined, but just as Arturo, I'm relieved she threw them out, at least this way they'll be free.
Shouldn't Lazaro be compelled to help Arturo, because of his work ethics?
And yes, who is more of a stalker, Mara for spying on Arturo, or Lazaro for spying on Mara?

My answer to this question is Santiago! How outraged he got because Santa was going to spill the beans on Humberto. What does Santistalker expect anyway?? HE KNOWS she's out for revenge, telling the truth to the press is far less harmful than some of the stuff the Canos have done....
Most of the time I can't stand Santa, but she's right - she spent far too much time putting her venganza on hold (6 months! one might think she likes being married to Humberto), Santibore should stop whining and take better care of his own wife.

MARIDO:

Wonderful recap Anita! It did feel like there were some important conversations going on last night, so I love the details.

Well, I thought Amalia and Rafa were going to make it, long-term, but last night he just continued to dig the hole deeper and deeper for himself, and it looks like he will be in jail for much longer than he would have originally.

Adriana- ITA that what Simon wants is for them to just become officially boyfriend-girlfriend. He's about to be in a very tough spot when his BFF Rei is informed that he's dating his daughter; and his new girlfriend Pati realizes he's been hiding vital info about what's happening between her parents from her.

It must be the hotel manager working in cahoots with the antique seller guy, right? It was nice of them to go back and leave Barbie with one of the ivory knives. Will they give her any of the rest, continue to play with her, what's the end game?

Gris looked like she was planning something as she thought back to Rei's rejection on her money. It's too soon and the wound too fresh for Rei to jump back into that kind of financial relationship with his mujer. I'm glad he was able to work something out with the hotel and their restaurant.

MARIDO:

I was so glad that one of TC’s plans were thwarted, and Rei will be able to continue living well at the hotel. Last night it became abundantly clear, and Rei even pointed it out—the difference between TC and almost every other character in this tn is that they all work and have a skill(s) that they can fall back on during tough times, while she is idle and has no skills (other than homicide and making people’s lives hell).

I was not surprised, but disappointed in Ro for deciding to help TC cover up her murder of Marcela.

Thanks Hombre and NovelaMaven for the recap.

So Patricio tells Ulises that he imports "meat" from Central America. Yuk. It should be pretty easy for Ulises, who seems to have a little more on the ball than Vicky, not that that would be hard, to find out that is a lie.

Patricio nastily told Transito to show up at the wedding in a decent dress, if she had one, to allay suspicion. Considering what women in novelas wear to weddings, funerals and to work, that should be a pretty low bar.

I'm betting that Arturo, Lisette and the baby end up with Mara somehow. It seems obvious that Lazaro is going to end up helping Arturo to walk again.

I'm so glad Willy finally lost the cave man look. This should be interesting.

Santa
Great as always, Hombre

I just watched. Franco did mention Humberto the abogado, right after Francisca. So he is on the hit list also, should Santi open his mouth.

Santi has another acting quality besides on call red eyes, heavy breathing. I thought they were strangling him when he had that hood on. Overdone in my opinion.

Yuk Lucy, kissing Willy through all that hair which probably hasn't seen soap for 2 yrs.

Why did Vicente force the marriage of Inez to Santi? That was never clear to me.

SANTA: Variopinta- Ines drugged Santi and arranged for Vicente to find them together. Then she claimed that Santi had gotten her pregnant. Unlike when Willy got Ines, pregnant, Vicente forced Santi to marry her by threatening to reveal what happened in Guatemala instead of chaining him up in the basement.

This comment has been removed by the author.

SANTA

Varipinta, in all fairness to Lucy, she only kissed Willy - Ines made a baby with him!!!
The whole Santi on the run from the mob story is so blah for me, and that Franco guy isn't that smart - he left out the most important person in Santi's life - his sister-in-law, Samanda... Silly capo, do your homework!

Jean, haha, Victoria seems mentally challanged half the time, we should brace ourselves for when Ivan goes to see her tonight.
Here is a question for all the watchers:

What do you think Victoria's reaction will when she sees Ivan tonight:
1. Cry
2. Cry and faint
3. Cry and hide behind Ulises' back.
4. Cry, leave Pat at the altar, go back to the house and cry some more.
5. Cry and look like a clueless fool while everyone around tells her what to do.

SANTA:

Thank you SO much, NovelaMaven, for filling in the last 15 minutes. A lot happened! And also thanks to Deb and Adriana for adding stuff. I can't wait to see what happens tonight, with the wedding, the press conference, and Franco's menace.

SANTA- I had the same reaction when Franco the narco trafficer appeared - oh no, not that again. Regular (non-narco)novelas seem to do a really bad job with these guys - I'm thinking of Corazon Valiente. They always end up falling for the heroine but we'll see.

Santa

I don't think Ivan's the nice young gentleman he used to be, and he still has his book.

I hope Pancho isn't just being a nice guy rushing Ivan over to Victoria's wedding, but remembers what Ivan said on the stand and wants to know how things will play out.

Marido,

wow, I thought Rafa's heavy slap down of Susana was totally uncalled for, and combined with his total lack of interest in making things right with Ivan, Amalia needs to move on.

Marido,

and thanks Anita, for a most wonderful recap!

MARIDO

Unfortunately earning a living has impeded my reading what looks like a stellar first recap, Anita.

More later, when the dust settles.

MARIDO
Thank you for taking the time to plow through this. This was not my first recap ever, but the first for this exacting TM audience.

Adriana--Thanks for the correction to noviasco. I of all people should have known this because I had a novio at age 10.

I'm now pulling strongly for Simon and Patti. Tony is just too hotheaded, demanding, selfish and I could go on and on. Shame on Gris for making him the favored child and letting it go to his head for so long. She has her work cut out for her if she wants to erase some of his character flaws.

Simon is mature, settled, good-looking, interesting, hard working and yes, fun to be with. Patti could use someone with less drama than Tony.

At this juncture, no amount of rehabilitation is going to make Tony seem right for Patti, at least for me. And..I don't care if he ends up a lonely, rich, old plastic surgeon, even if he carries his good looks into old age.

MARIDO:

I just want to co-sign everyone else's complements of Anita's recap-it was a great recap. Keep it up.

MARIDO

Oh yes, Anita, you are a superb writer. Those of us who hang out over on the Looneyvision side of the tracks already know that, but now the Telemundo gang has a chance to discover you.

I enjoyed your recap very much, even if I can't say the same for the show. As much as I like Juan Soler, there is just too much crapola for me, especially in 2-hour blocks. Maybe when they get back to one-hour shows, I can FF the garbage and get back into watching.

That reminds me -- a while back, Sara and I came up with a Recapper's Motto:
WE WATCH THE CRAP SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

heh heh

Santa
Tks Jean, how could I forget the phoney pregnancy. But I don't know how Ines could blame Vicente for that, he got her what she wanted.

I thought Vicky had sth planned for the boda & we would be surprised. She clearly is afraid of Pat & doesn't love him. I thought she wanted Transito at the wedding for that plan. But now everything is different with Ivan free. We will be surprised none the less.

Anyone notice how nicely Willy's nails were manicured. They slipped up on that one.

SANTA

I wonder if we will have the Telemundo remake of "Mrs Robinson" - the church scene where Dustin Hoffman is hollering in the back of the church etc. I have my S and G song ready to play in the background if it does play that way.

I can't stand to look at the narco-guy scenes. I imagine they will make Santi do their illegal work and Humberto will be pleasantly surprised that Santi is acting just as Bert was trying to paint him in those set up photos. We will see!

I do have a double standard, however. I like that tough lady in the Reina del Sur promos. I never saw the TN, but I admit I kinda like her "bad-a@#" act. There have been moments in life when I would have liked to have her nearby.

Marido

NM--Please keep you eyes open and continue to watch Marido. Very soon, they will go back to 1 hr. episodes at 8 o'clock. Don't know why they are torturing us like this if La Reina del Sur has long been in the can and this is its second broadcast.

At the beginning of Marido, I hated the thought of Jeronimo kissing or making love to anyone else but Renata, but I'm ok with Reinaldo kissing the lovely Griselda. (And WHEN are we going to get to see the swimming pool scene--I've been waiting for it for what seems like months.)

Funny how watching a telenovela draws you into these fictional characters and sometimes wacky stories (mantra: it's just a tn; it's just a tn - or brain protection: a handcrafted tn beanie), but when you start to recap, you really get invested in the characters and the stories and see them and treat them in a whole different light.

My family laughs at me and rolls their collective eyes when I start to talk about events happening to imaginary people trying to live imaginary lives full of adversaries and adverse situations transported into a small living room tv. But hey, that's my choice.

Besides, it's the community of recappers and commenters that forms around these stories that really give meaning to my admission that, yes, I'm hooked on telenovelas.

MARIDO/GENERAL:

"Yes, I'm hooked on telenovelas."

Anita- Amiga mia, that really applies to all of us here, and should be on the banner as soon as a person logs onto the Caray Caray site. :)

MARIDO

Anita, it's true, we're all hooked on tns and having this site only makes the addiction more powerful.

Now the bad news... If the pool scene you are waiting for is the one they show at the beginning of each episode, with Rei and Gris kissing during the night, that one already happened in one of the first episodes, right after they met and it was a fantasy of Rei's.

Sorry, amiga!

I totally get what you're saying about not wanting to see a favorite hero with another woman (Renata and Jeronimo). Cristian de la Fuente's new tn started and I really don't like that hussy, his new tn partner, making googly eyes at him. :)

Marido

Adriana--How could I have missed that? I must have been out of town. Drat. I've been fantasizing over what they do next in the water for so long. Well, I hope Rei got "something" out of his fantasy!

Cristian with a hussy?????

His tn hasn't started over here yet, and I will have to force myself to only open one eye and beam it just on him--don't know what I'll do when Daniel starts kissing someone other that Camila.

MARIDO/ General

Anita, I only watched 2 episodes of CdlF's new tn, I'm waiting for it to arrive in the US to watch it with the Caray gang. Much more fun!

As for Rei and Gris, there are some pretty big spoilers in that intro, still a lot to look forward to.

MARIDO, Thursday, Happy Halloween!
Pt 1

So the bad news is the vcr stopped recording and it’s still at the shop. Good news is that I figured out how to hook up the antenna without it. (Yes I still have a vcr and no cable. It works just fine for me, except when it doesn’t). I can do the recap but please fill where I missed something or couldn’t read my chicken scratch. Sorry.

TC and Ro roam the town ripping off her wanted posters. It seems like she’s having fun until she breaks a nail. She doesn’t deserve this, she cries. When they get back to the house, she asks her esclava (I like Ro except when he puts up with this) if they got all the posters. He thinks so. Tia Ines and Mario! They demand to know what the two are talking about.

Rei is at the hotel, happy as a clam, showing them how to do things and getting some herbs from Matilde.

Amalia gets 5 minutes to talk to Rafa. They’re both sad and bringing the mood down. Rafa knows he’s going to prison for what he did. He doesn’t want Amalia to visit him in jail but does want her to wait for him. They have their hands up to the glass and then kiss through the glass, and it’s all I can do to not vomit. That glass has probably been kissed by a thousand criminals and never cleaned. Blech. I wouldn’t even want to touch it.

Tony watching the new noviazgo. He’s miserable but we don’t care.

Ines and Mario aren’t buying this cock and bull story (rollo). They bust into TC’s room demanding to know what they were talking about. I think they heard something about a rubia and asks if TC is the one being looked for? Ines is tired of being put off. She has Mario recount how many lawyers have the secret info that will be released if TC doesn’t start talking. Ro enters to save the day and tells the pair that he and TC were talking about a movie. Mario aks what the movie was and wants to see the dvd but Ro “returned” it already. Ines calls this a cuento Chino (tall tale. Is this racist? It seems a little racist.)

Beatirz sends the maridas on a job
but Deborah forgot her llave inglesa (monkey wrench). Kike goes to get one for her but she steps in front of him to get it herself, bends over seductively and- whoops- rubs her tush into him. Luckily for him, Gris interrupts with a letter from the lawyer about there being a hearing for the judge to hear both sides about Kikito.

Rei is teaching the hotel staff about his cooking style when Tony comes in to tell him about Paty and Simon. Rei doesn’t believe it because she’s like a niece to him. Tony pushes it but Rei tells him this isn’t the time or place for this but Tony won’t stop. He saw them kissing and tells Rei to not allow this to happen.

Simon is dropping Paty off at the posada and kisses her goodbye but she invites him up to her room. Yowza! Daniel sees this and tells Tony.

MARIDO, Thursday, part 2

Kike and Gris talk about the judge. Kike wants him to hear from Gris but she knows she’s not a part of this. But she knows that they need to be prepared. Barb gets the news about the judge and she’s thrilled.

TC decides to go to the posada to visit Paty. Nice timing.

Tony shows up there and he goes up to Paty’s room. He tells her she is committing the worst mistake of her life (worse than you, buddy?) and wants to stop this. She pushes him out of the room to talk to him like adults. I don’t know what exactly he said next but she slapped him! Good! She wants him to forget her but he won’t accept this thing she has with Simon. She yells back that who is he to accept it or not? He says lovey dovey things and moves in for a kiss when TC shows up. Again, nice timing. TC wanted to see her daughter but takes this time to berate her for being with the son of the exbigo…Paty has had enough of her mother and wants her to stop interfering in her life, and then Simon comes out of her room. TC thinks he must be there to deliver a sandwich to Paty but he announces the noviazgo.

Rei chats with Gris about the relationship between his brazo derecho and his daughter. He feels betrayed. Gris knows that Tony still loves Paty and did what he did out of desperation.

Tony is happy because he thinks there is no way that TC will accept Paty. But TC tells Paty she is the only one who would support this and then invites them to dinner. Her motivation is more likely to stick it to Rei and she says he is invited too, because all she wants is Paty’s happiness. Right.

Jose is at the house intently staring at Barbara’s hole in the wall. Elio tells Fernando that if the treasure was there, someone took it. He gets a smack from Jose for blabbing this. Fer examines the hole and yep! Nothing is there. Jose is like duh and says he is an island surrounded by idiots. He and Fer argue about this while Elio breaks it up. Then they are beamed out to the beach for the next scene where they talk about the backup plan- Griselda’s millions.

Susana offers Max a drink after his class but he’d rather go somewhere else with her to get something. Ed doesn’t like this and says he’ll be watching her. He’s sure gotten in to this management role.

Vanessa’s latest design try get rejected by JP. Marcia tells him he has to make a decision because they are running out of time. She tells Vanessa to keep trying.

Gris talks to Gigante about where Kike went off to. They are both worried about him. They should be. He was at the old house when Barb got home. They argued and Barb went upstairs. She later saunters downstairs barely dressed and finds Kike still there. She flirts in her way and walks back up with him following to talk about the hearing. He yells that he will never permit her to take the boy. He’ll do whatever he needs to, go far away, whatever it takes to keep her away from Kikito. They yell some more and end up an inch away from each other. Kike is trying to resist her but Barb is turning on the, un, charm? He almost makes it out the front door but she follows him downstairs, keeps up the sex offensive, and they go at it on the couch.

MARIDO, Thursday, part 3

Gris gets home to Amalia pining on the couch and Tony studying. He asks about Kike and they haven’t seen him. She tells them about the judge and goes out looking for Kike. Tony is sitting on the arm of the couch and kisses Amalia’s head. He’s a lousy person but not a terrible brother.

TC calls Rei to invite him to the dinner. She’s tells him she’s not thrilled with this choice of boyfriend but he’s better than the last one, and she wants to mend the relationship with her daughter. Rei turns down the invitation. TC thinks Paty is using Simon to get over Tony but that this is a great opportunity to win her daughter back.

Jose is at the Taco bar again (why are they even serving this guy) when Gris walks in asking if they’ve seen Kike. Then she heads off to the old house and interrupts Kike and Barb just in time, she orders Kike to get dressed, they’re leaving! Then she calls Barb a zorra and waits outside.

Simon goes to see Rei and gets a punch in the nose for his trouble. Rei is a little ticked off. He lokos ilke he wants to kill Simon, but Simon wants to talk to him about this. He is NOT playing with Rei’s daughter, he has loved her for 2 years, since she was 18. (So Simon is supposed to be 30 now?) Simon knows he should have told Rei sooner but he was afraid of Rei’s reaction. For good reason, apparently.

Jose shows up at the house where Gris is waiting outside and tells him what’s going on. Kike is getting dressed but Barb is still trying, at elast until he mentions his mother. Then she tells him to largate. Jose starts to ask Gris something but she stops him and tells him ni un centavo. He’s not getting anything from her. Perrrrrrdon? says Jose. Gris knows him and knows what he wants and he’s not getting it. They leave (and Kike opens the car door for his mother because he was raised well) and Jose goes inside. He tells Barb to take a cold bath and she tells him to go to hell. He calls TC and they make a date.

Paloma brings some chamomile tea to Paty and says she’s worried about how her father will take this. But Paty tells her that Tony has already hurt her twice and she doesn’t want it to happen again. Simon isn’t a nino (pretend there’s a squiggle over that second n) and he treats her like a queen. Simon shows up later to tell her that Rei isn’t happy with this.

Jose checks on Barb who is in bed. He stands outside the door and says he’s going to Kike’s neighborhood and wants to know if he should play cupid between her and Kike. She throws something at the door in response.

Gris and Kike talk about their bad choices in partners. Kike ask if this is genetic. She knows he’s still in love with Barb and that he wants what they once had. She’ll stand by him whatever he decides.

Max and Susanna are at the Taco Bar and she has probably been talking during the whole dinner we didn’t see about what’s been going on. She says that she knows her turn to manage the shop is coming. Then she realizes that she’s been talking a lot and finally asks about him having to leave fighting and asks about a second opinion about his heart. They finally call it a night since they both have to go but Max stays behind to pay the check. And when she leaves, he sits down to continue eating. I was afraid he might be interested in her, but I don't think so.

Vanessa is failing at this design thing. We see a trash can shot with lots of crumpled paper.

MARIDO, Thursday, part 4

Paty and Simon are talking about Rei and Simon thinks she should wait until morning to talk to him again. He understand Rei’s concern over his daughter and they talk like grown ups about this (see how it’s done Tony!) Simon leaves her for the night with a nice goodbye kiss.

Gris and Rei are together and after some kissing they cuddle and talk. Gris says he’s mad because Simon and Paty didn’t tell him anything, and she thinks it’s time for them to tell the kids about what they have.

TC and Jose are also together in her bed (it’s a pg-13 night). The good times stop when he asks for money and she gets annoyed. But they get flirty again and she rewards him with some cash, but he takes more than she had planned on. She forgives him.

Clara wants to know what’s up with Leo and goes to Victor and Paloma for info. They think she should talk to him directly and don’t’ want to get in the middle. So Clara tries Penny but doesn’t get any info from her either. Gabe suggests she follow him one night and offers her a night off whenever she needs it.

Paty tries to again invite Rei to the dinner but he can’t go. That’s the same night as Griselda’s housewarming party. Oooh, that’ll be fun! I think Rei told Paty he’s dating Gris.

Barb comes to the big house to pick up Kikito. The boy gives his abuela a kiss goodbye but ignores Kike when he says bye. He’s very worried now about what the judge will do because that vibora could win.

Esther checks in with Marcia to ask about the design. JP is looking at the latest of Vanessa’s attempts and he tells her he wants to be honest and that these designs would be a disaster. She takes it well.

Susanna calls a doc for Max to get that second opinion. But when Ed asks about this, she lies about what she’s doing.

Vanessa goes back into JP’s office to tell him she wants one more day and she doesn’t’ really give him a chance to turn her down. One more day in infierno he says after she leaves. Regrets, JP?

Dan is telling Tony that he’s going to the dinner that TC is putting on. Tony thinks he’s a traitor if he goes. But Dan is going and so is one of their other friends. Dan will show him the pictures. Ha.

Vanessa goes to see- guess who?- Esther! She tells Esther that her designs were un disaster and asks for Esther’s help. Not for her but for Fina Estampa.

SANTA DIABLA... Thursday (epi 60)
part 1

wow!

and so in the sleepy little town of Marrero...

Santiago approaches Amanda, before the press conference,
she is insistent, she must do this, they ruined my life,
and left willy without a father,
Santiago is concerned for his family,
and then there are the photos of you with a gun,
what? Satiago asks,
the ones in Humberto's office,
(and Santiago remembers the camera flash when he was with Navarro),
if you are not with me, leave, Santa tells him,
the press files in, and Santiago leaves, stops,
and sits down,

*casa Hortensia
Mara and Lazaro come to help Lisette/Arturo and son,
freshly evicted by Hortensia, Arturo has fallen,
(while she watches through a small window),
they take them to Mara's place, and Lazaro attends to Arturo's injured leg,

*prison
uncle Pancho fills Ivan in on the wedding,
and offers him a ride to where ever he'd like to go,

*casa Vicente
Ines and Lucy arrive, Lucy is fully recovered (and chatting) from Willy's escape,
so Ines gets rid of her so she can think,

*church
the same church/setting where we saw Arturo/Lisette wed,
(when Arturo arrived late, and Santiago was arrested),

Patricio paces, Victoria is not there,

Transito arrives, dressed modestly, walking on egg shells,
(with Patricio, good or bad, there is always the possibility of a beating),

Pancho arrives, sits by Transito,
she says the bride is not here,
and why does that make you smile, she asks,

Ulises arrives, assures Patricio, Victoria is coming,

*casa Victoria
Ivan arrives, looks around, the house is arranged for the reception,
Victoria comes down the stairs, in her wedding dress, sees Ivan, stops,
drops her flowers,
they talk, the who/what/where stuff, then Ivan pulls her to him,
they kiss, and kiss,
the phone rings, but Ivan pulls the cord out of the wall,
immature, Victoria says of him,
she discovers he was not found innocent but is out on a technicality,
and then there is the age difference, and, and,
she picks up her flowers,
and she is off to the church, alone,
tears come to Ivan's eyes,

*old casa of Paula
Begone fixes willy something to eat,
and settles in front of the tv, awaiting the press conference,
(I don't think Paula was invited to the getaway)

*casa Cano
Francisca is home from the hospital,
Barbara rips on her for trying to kill herself,
and then wants to know every detail about her affair with Vicente,
George rushes in, flips on the tv, the press conference is on,
Barbara calls Humberto at G-Cano to let him know,

*Trebol de Oro
Lucy arrives, she has some things for Willy,
(first exchanging barbs with the working girls),
in the room we see a relaxed Willy, haircut/stubble instead of a beard,
on the bed, reading a book, in his undies,
he asks for her help,
as she comes close, he flips her on the bed, him on top,
they kiss,

*the press conference
Santa tells the story of Willy Delgado
the false accusation, his innocence, the conviction, his death, all,
(did she really do this)
and she has George's original cell phone with the recording of Willy and Barbara, as proof,
plus,

"I am Santa Martínez, the wife of Willy Delgado",

and we see the shock spread across the face on the Cano's,
discovered, deceived, betrayed,
Francisca, Barbara, Humberto,
(did Humberto's eyes flash red)

Paula is watching from a doorway,
and Ines at home, is also watching,

SANTA DIABLA... Thursday (epi 60)
part 2

*G-Cano
slick Vicente, who also watched the press conference,
rushes into Humberto's office,
Humberto throws him out,

*church
Patricio is at his wits end, he tries calling one more time,
as Victoria is escorted into the church by her brother Ulises,
Pancho frowns, and so does Transito,

*Trebol de Oro
Lucy breaks free, Willy changes tactics,
Ines is crazy, she kidnapped and shot me, you must help,
or you are an accomplice, she will get you too,
Lucy agrees to help,
to this half naked man, kissing her hand,

*casa Mara
Arturo is sleeping, Lazaro gave him a sedative,
Mara is all excited, taking care of the baby,
Elisa asks, where is Lisette?

*church
the ceremony is almost complete,
"any one opposed to this marriage, speak now or...."
and on cue, Ivan bursts through the doors,

*cabana
apparently Part 2 of Santa's plan is a little shaky as she is swamped by the reporters,
Santiago whisks her out of there and they end up at the cabana, what?
say, that looks like a door where the bookcase has been moved,
hmm, let's go look, but Santa wants to leave,

*the bar,
Barbara heads to her favorite bar,
for a drink and a man,
and up walks Franco, err Sebastián Blanco is it now?

*G-Cano
Lisette rushes into Humberto's office, you must help me,
a desolate Humberto is nursing a drink playing with some desktop toys,
she cries, she pleads,,,
he quietly listens, stands, caresses her hair,
and grips the back of her neck,
stuffs her into the elevator, and walks back to his drink,

*church
Patricio says, no one objects, let's get on with this,
Ivan standing in the middle of the isle, says nothing,
Pancho comes to him, let's go,
no, says Ivan, I want to hear this,
and so the ceremony moves on,
"Victoria, do you take this man..."

(you'd need a chainsaw to cut through the tension in this place)

finally,

"si, acepto"

was there one happy person in this church,
yes, Patricio,
a smack on the closed lips of Victoria and a smile for Ivan,
then off to the house for the party, dragging Victoria along,
(who will be at this party)

*cabana
but Santiago does look in the basement,
Santa is nervous but follows,
as far as Vicente's favorite perch on the stairs,
it's blood, he says!

*casa Vicente,
Ines hasn't moved since watching the news conference,
a frantic Vicente walks in the door,
she is so stunned, Amanda, is Santa Martínez, the WIFE of Willy Delgado,
what's it matter, he is dead, Vicente says,
NO, you had him in the cellar,
what?
Vicente realizes it was Ines that set him free,

WHERE IS HE?

"I don't know".

SANTA

Deb, thank you for the recap, it came just in time.

Line of the day has to go to Santa: when Santi asked her if she plans to destroy his bro's career and how can she do that, she had the perfect comeback: "What did you think I planned to do to him, scold him a little and then take him to the movies?"
This just proves how unrealistic their supposed love is. Sure, Santi expected a trial, but that can come next, too.

I was sure that while Santa was about to tell the world how great her Willy used to be, her beloved would be going at it with Lucy, in true tn fashion.
So, I really have to give Lucy some credit, I believe she is the first woman who has ever said no to the guy, at least for now - but she sure is smitten - but how could she not be, she shows up in his room and he's practically naked and looking like a million bucks?? She must really love Pancho to say no to that hawt piece.

I loved the Canos' everybody's reactions when Santa revealed her true identity. Humberto was especially great, his shock coming from the fact that Santa actually had the guts to say the truth - those icy eyes of him really fired up when she said her real name - great acting from Carlos Ponce.
And then, there was Santiago - everyone's reaction was so intense, but he just stood there, looking like he was about to burst out crying. Sure, he sees things from a different perspective, but could the director cut back on the eye drops for this character? He's such a turn off, after seeing Willy today in all his beautiful glory, I'm going to start rooting for him, too, not only for Humberto.

SANTA
correction

those icy eyes of his*

Also, now that they are married, can Victoria and Patricia leave Marrero for good? I really can't stand them, together or apart.
After they left church, did I see a new fire in Ivan's eyes? Sort of like the one In Humberto's?
Like father, like son?
Maybe he'll slowly but surely move on from his Victoria obsession and decide to start a new life? NOT with COUSIN Daniela, though, that would be too icky!

SANTA:

Wow is right, Deb. Thanks for the great recap.

Adriana- It looks like you were wrong about Vicky's reaction when she saw Ivan. No crying, no fainting. She had that deer in the headlights look and a stupid decision but hey, it's Vicky.

So Santa has the video showing that the rape accusation against Willy was false. But what evidence does she have that Bert ordered Willy killed in prison? Without some proof, that is slander.

If Pancho believes that Ivan is innocent, why doesn't he make some effort to find the real killer? If he believes Ivan is guilty, why is he being so buddy buddy with a cop- killer?

I agree that the reactions of all the Canos (except Santi) to Samanda's announcement were great - especially Bert's.

SANTA

Jean, you're right, Vicki didn't cry too much during the wedding, Ivan did. :))
I wish now we could move on to a different story for him, but I guess we're not that lucky.

SANTA

You have to admire Willy's fortitude. 2 and a half years in a basement, recovering from a gunshot and surgery, in hiding from someone who could kill him, and still he has the fortitude for some nookie with Lucy. Priorities! He may be living in exactly the right place.

Kelly

SANTA

Deb, thank you so much for another extraordinary free verse telling of the tale. I especially loved this:

"I am Santa Martínez, the wife of Willy Delgado",

and we see the shock spread across the face on the Cano's,
discovered, deceived, betrayed,
Francisca, Barbara, Humberto,
(did Humberto's eyes flash red)

Kelly:
[Willy] may be living in exactly the right place.
Excellent!

I've been cutting masochistic Victoria some slack up to now -- but after last night? I'd like to say she deserves what is in store for her. [But of course no one deserves sadistic Patricio. Sigh)

SANTA:

Great recap, Deb, of a terrific episode, with lots of impactada reactions. Whether or not any of Santa's accusations hold up, the damage is done to the Cano reputations. I also loved the end when Vicente realized that Ines had freed Willy. But he's REALLY in trouble now, since she doesn't know where Willy is !!

Adriana, good point about the fire in Ivan's eyes, just like Bert. But I don't think his story is anywhere NEAR over. It's just starting. He's tougher now, and like Bert, he'll go for REVENGE. Yes, I can see him trying to expose, or even KILL Patricio now. I can't wait!

Well, all the gloves are off. Here comes the chaos.

MARIDO:

Thank you for the recap. Very well done. Was is Kelly? I didn't see the name.

Anyway, I have this funny feeling that, as much as we don't like Tony (and I totally agree), he's still going to get back with Pati in the end. The reason why is that with Pati and Simon, she feels "secure". And that's the problem. I've seen many telenovelas where the girl gets a new guy, with whom she feels safe, secure, he's really nice, attentive, etc. But that's not enough for telenovela ladies. They need PASSION, even if it means reconciling with some bum who's made ten thousand mistakes. So, we'll see.

MARIDO:

Thanks Kelly!

Hombre- I thought the exact same thing, and it's a crying shame because Tony in no way deserves Pati. I also had the same thoughts about Amalia. Strangely enough, I'm more ok with Rafa getting Amalia in the end, but he also doesn't deserve her. And they haven't even shown us a second option for her. I would so like to see her have a romance with a guy who is totally honest with her.

Kelly- I don't think Simon said two years-- just a couple of years. We've seen Pati drinking alcohol, so I think she's at least 21. I have my doubts that a man just suddenly flips a switch and becomes attracted to a woman when she turns 18, but I might be wrong. I know Rei certainly has his doubts. I totally understand why he's upset.

Quique snapped out of his Barbie stupor the first time and ran for the door because she suggested that they get married again. He could see the writing on the wall that she just wants to marry into all that money. She would totally take him for a ride and find a way to wring him dry of money, before ditching him again. And this time, Kikito would really be affected as he's not a baby like he was the last time. I know Q hasn't gotten over her, but marrying/dating her again is not the answer. She's too greedy. She does love Kikito though, so what to do?

SANTA:

Kelly: ;-) Willy does have to make up for the 2 1/2 years in the basement with no female companionship. He must have spent his time working out with his chains as weights because his bod was pretty ripped and not dead white like you might expect for someone who had been in a dark basement for all that time.

Santa,

wow, thanks guys!

I can't imagine where this story is going now.
If Humberto makes it home, Paula won't be leaving that house alive,
Franco is reeling in his first victim, and if he bumps off George, Barbara will really fall for him.
Victoria's honeymoon will really show her the love Ivan was offering.
and Willy, he hasn't called Santa again, as yet.
will Ines lose both of her men to Santa,
and what about her baby, not conceived in love?

what is Santa's plan?
is a recurring question on another board,
because she never seems to have thought it all the way through.

SANTA:

Santa's plan. She said it herself, to Santiago. It's to pay the Canos back for all they did. In other words, ruin their lives, as they did hers. And she's been quite successful. Gaspar is dead. The law firm has lost just about all its clients, and doesn't even have a secretary. Francisca and Vicente have been humiliated with their secrets being revealed. Barbara has been totally humiliated. The family has lost the house to the in law they all despised and looked down on. And now, Mr. White Shark, the wonderful lawyer, after losing Ivan's case, has it come out that he sent an innocent man to jail, had him killed, and married his widow!

That ain't chicken feed.

SANTA:

But I agree, Santa doesn't really have any fixed final goal. And we have no idea where the story is going now. Thank goodness for the writers. I have no doubt they'll come up with something shocking!

SANTA

"Thank goodness for the writers."

That's the thing, Hombre. There's a real autorial feel about this. The writer, José Ignacio Valenzuela, has his signature on every page, in every scene. Love him or hate him, he is present. [Me, I love him -- I am a huge fan!]

This is definitely NOT a horse built by a committee.

MARIDO

Kelly, super, super recap!

Why Antonio got slapped: When Pati said she didn't have time to spend going over the same stuff with him, he replied that she was busy opening her legs.

Kelly, I loved: He's miserable, and we don't care.

I'm not liking the portrayal of Deborah. I don't know why they had to go there. Gris wanted to create an all-woman handyman company and is successful, apparently. There's no reason for one of them to ogle Quique, run up against him and behave like a slut all the time.

Wow, Susana has her eye on Max, but it doesn't look like he's reciprocating. He told her he was in a hurry and then, when she left, settled in to enjoy his lunch. I think her "second opinion" is in hopes that Max could fight again and keep her in the style she'd like to become accustomed to.

I was certainly surprised TC was willing to "pay for the róbalo".

Reinaldo didn't tell Pati about Griselda. He kind of waffled and said he was going to the party because they're friends. I think they were planning to tell her kids at that party. Not sure if Pati plans to attend after the creepy dinner with TC or not.

I also have that sinking feeling that Pati is going to end up with Antonio. They're going to probably pull a big "Tony realizes the error of his ways" switcheroo. I'd rather see her with Simón, but I don't think there's any chemistry there on her part.

Santa,

wow Hombre,
"That ain't chicken feed." is right!
you really laid it all out there, I'd never really looked at all that Santa has done at one time before, what a path of destruction.

and this last has really stopped Humberto in his tracks, but we all know that he will never be happy until he has HIS Santa under his thumb once again,
down, but not out,
she has just upped the stakes is all.

but the Willy factor is going to pull the rug out from everyone.

SANTA

the Willy factor

Deb, you crack me up.

SANTA - Hombre, so true that the stage is set for all kinds of chaos. The future for Vicky gives me chills to consider with the sadistic Patricio. Transito has a permanent look of terror whenever she is in Patricio's presence. Maybe she will be the first one to catch on to Vickie's future terror.

So Ivan did pull a Mrs Robinson scene (sort of, and without the hoped for outcome). His new connection with Pablo is pleasing to see. Two reasonably honest, albeit, rather naive guys. I have great hopes for them as future heroes.

Barbara and NarcoMan - what a pair! WillietheDog with no restraints - who else will fall into his supposed spell? Transito? Lucy? And why is he in Transito's room? I hope Patricio doesn't catch him there. Santa and Santi at Vicente's place because that is where Santi likes "to relax"? Really? Lisette with no upcoming monetary prospects from Humberto? What will she do after Day 2 in the same clothes?

I sure enjoy this crazy storyline (minus some of the more graphic violence) and these crazy kids in Marrero.

MARIDO

Vivi: Pati is 21. The first few episodes revolved around her birthday and coming of age. They bought her a car and Reinaldo picked it up. It had a big bow on it. He got a flat tire and that's when he met Gris–she changed it for him.

Marido,

excellent recap Kelly,
I love your style!

it is really nice for me that every day has a recap now,
and I really appreciate all of you guys doing the 2 hour shows, whew!

interesting, Jose at the taco bar,
they didn't serve him, so he took Elio's beer,
who ordered another one.

Marido--

Kelly, just to let you know I'm here and reading. I enjoyed last night's episode and your reportaje.

I agree that Gris' Maridas en Alquiler business should have been staffed by completely professional women. If any hanky panky goes on, it's her fault--she interviewed everybody! She can also fire. The story didn't need the scene, we're getting plenty of hanky panky from all the main characters!

I loved Jose getting Elio's beer and Elio ordering another one, too, and got a chuckle out of Max eating his and Susie's lunch.

Santa
Great one Deb for a great episode

I haven't watched yet but I am so disappointed in Vicky. I really thought she was going to shock us with some bizarre plan. The shock was that she didn't shock us.

Santa
Narco Franco did admire Barbs picture when he was threatening Santi.

Only one thing wrong with Santa's plan. Willy really is a piece of scum that took advantage of an underage girl. Plus an affair with Inez & Begona.

Marido

Great recap! I appreciate it so much on this double episodes, especially because it allows me to skip ahead. I feel like such a free-rider on the effort of the recappers.

I too have a very strong hunch that Patty will not end up with Simon. There's every sign that he's "rebound guy" for her, and that she's going ahead with the relationship because he's not unattractive and because she's trying to stay away from Tony and he's everything that Tony is not. And so there's poor Simon, who's going to have his heart broken, as well as losing his best friend.

Reinaldo didn't come out and tell Patty about his relationship with Griselda? I thought he did, but I'm at a loss without the subtitles. What was that last line? I thought it was "we declared everything."

I agree with Novelera and Anita about Deborah. She's unnecessary and having her there at Maridas en Alquiler doesn't make sense. Wasn't there a long line of women waiting to interview for the jobs? Why pick her over one of those others? The only way it would make sense would be if she was actually good at the work, and then we could see Griselda pointing that out to her, and telling her she doesn't have to flirt and grind to get ahead.

MARIDO

Right now, the best part of this novela for me is the Elio/Jose/Barbara relationship... I've never been a big Varoni fan, but he has totally won me over with this role. He's hilarious (even when he's being kind of gross), and I love how he interacts with TC, Elio, and Barbara... their scenes totally make me chuckle.

I, too, am sensing that Simon is "rebound guy" unfortunately (although his hair drives me crazy... does it look totally fake on top or is it just me?). He's adorable and kind and strong, and I hope he gets someone worthy in the end.

I had to laugh at Max's "get away" from Susana at the Taco Bar... I was so relieved he wasn't into her after all! He needs a good one to end up with too... what a doll. Clara, maybe? Although all signs point to her with Beto.

OMG, these two hour episodes are killing me... especially having to watch them online with all kinds of buffering issues!

SANTA.

What an episode! I promise to get a recap up as soon as I can. Whew, I need to breathe first.

MARIDO

Friday's recap will be posted later today. This could take 5 or 6 parts though I think Ana Barbara performing at the party took up at least a half hour by itself. ;-)

Marido

I can't decide which is crazier--this idea that Vanessa, college student majoring in social work (judging by her textbooks), would design the collection for Fina Estampa or the fact that she has a business card. What does her card say? "College student with a thing for older men" or "Former restaurant host"?

Or should the card say "would-be designer"? Why shouldn't any of the other people at Fina Estampa sit down with a sketchpad and a few crayons and give it a try? Or does Juan Pablo believe there's something magical about his penis that transmits fashion design ability? (Come on, you know there's no other explanation for this plot development.)

Marido--
Oh, Utah, while we wait for the recap, I have to ponder your comment on Vainessa. It is hysterically funny and TRUE.

Christian Bach / Sebastián Zurita, playing mother and son
(Sebastián is the son of Christian Bach and Humberto Zurita)

MARIDO viernes 1 de noviembre Part 1

Vanesa has the unmitigated gall to ask for Esther’s help with designs for Fina Estampa. Esther has seen the two of them together (well, more than together) and asks why she should help her. She believes Vanesa will pass off her designs as her own. Fina Estampa can go down the toilet as far as she’s concerned. Vanesa protests that she’s not taking advantage of the situation (oh?) and tells Esther that deep down she really doesn’t want to see FE fail. Vanesa gives Esther “her” card and asks her to call if she changes her mind.

Preparations are under way for the party at la mansión Carrasco . Gris is nervous about the party and telling her children about her relationship with Reinaldo. Celeste tries to calm her down with some tequila. “Make it a double.”

TC rejects the dessert that Manuel brought from the bakery. “Bring it back. Tell the woman at that fifth-rate pastry shop every little hovel (“cuchitril”) serves tiramisu.” She turns her venom on Ro who is trying to arrange the flowers. Honestly I don’t advocate violence especially against women but I can fantasize about Ro slapping the snot of that stuckup nose, right? TC goes upstairs and says she’s surrounded by a band of incompetents who only multiply. They only work under the whip (látigo). She calls Reinaldo to convince him to come to the engagement party. He’s working in the hotel kitchen and says he’s too busy to talk. Besides, it’s just a dinner party not an engagement party as she says so he can miss it. “I not obligated to come to anything held at your house. I explained my reasons for not coming to Pati. Now stop calling me at all hours. I’m not your husband anymore.” He hangs up. Ro comes into TC’s bedroom. “He’s going to the bigotuda’s party instead of mine and had the nerve to be rude to me about it.” She leaves and Ro smiles and says to himself, “¡Bien hecho!”

Beatriz goes to Alba’s office. Gris let her out early and she has invited all the Maridas employees to her party. She asks Alba to go with her but Alba doesn’t want to go uninvited. Beatriz calls Antonio who tells her he would be honored to have the famous scientist Dr Alba Perkins there as his guest of honor. (Whose party is this anyway?)

José tells Elio he’s going to Gris’ party. Elio scoffs that she won’t let him in. He says nothing can stop him when he wants something and he’s not going to miss this party for the world. Elio asks to go with him.

TC is incredulous that Pati is going to stop by at Gris’ party before going to her cena. “It’s a conspiracy to sabotage my dinner.” Pati calmly tells her, “You’re not the center of the universe so stop being a drama queen.”

Iván invites Paloma to TC’s dinner. “After all, we are engaged.” Paloma is hesitant because of her relationship with TC. Iván says if TC wants to be friends with him, she will have to accept Paloma.

Susana, that Babs-in-training, tries to convince Max to get a second opinion about his heart. He feels he doesn’t need it but agrees. And she is going with him.

At FE Vanesa is at her desk trying to design. JP comes up to her and asks why she insists on trying when…He doesn’t get to finish his sentence but we know he wants to say, “…you have no talent.” She says he gave her a day and that she still has time.” She get up to leave without her design.

Esther asks Gabe what he thinks about helping Vanesa. He tells her that whatever decision she makes will be the right one.

MARIDO viernes 1 de noviembre Part 2

Ro calls Vanesa to warn her not to show up with JP at TC’s dinner. She agrees. Esther calls her to let her know she will help with some designs. She is not doing it for her or for JP but for FE and its loyal employees.

Paloma is ready for TC’s dinner. Iris says she isn’t going because TC told her she would strangle her if she went near her house again. Paloma says that unfortunately she has to go to TC’s first before going to Gris’. Pati thanks her for being there. Simón comes to pick Pati up. After they leave Diosa comments how Pati has been lucky twice. Iris dismisses Simón as “just a maitre’d.” Paloma comes up with one of her predictions: “Pati is going to be deceived again.”

Let the dueling parties begin:

Ro admires the outdoor lighting. TC can’t resist and sends Ro to see what the bigotuda’s house looks like. Gris tells Celeste that she has even better lighting than TC. It’s funny to see Sonya Smith do that masculine style walk in a slinky dress and heels. Gris turns on the lights and they are more impressive than TC’s. Ro reports back and TC has to go see for herself. When she goes outside she sees Reinaldo arrive for Gris’ party.

Gris is nervous and asks about the special guest. Jethro tells her not to worry. Antonio points out Reinaldo. Gris’ children all have puzzled looks on their faces.

TC tells herself she shouldn’t go over to that pigsty but it makes her blood boil to see Reinaldo arrive. Ro tries to stop her but can’t. Inside Gris and Reinaldo decide to wait for Pati before they make the announcement about their relationship. Too late, because in walks TC. Gris and Reinaldo don’t notice but Amalia, Jethro and Antonio do. “Why are you looking at me like that?” They turn around and there’s TC, ready to make a fool out of herself yet again.

Meanwhile Simón and Pati arrive at Gris’. They find it strange that they don’t hear any music. Simón asks to get some smooching action in outside before they go in and see Antonio.

TC says she came to pay her respects. She approaches Reinaldo and starts ripping his shirt open. “All I want for you is to die!!” “You’re nuts! Completely out of your mind!!” She calms down, says her guests are about to arrive and goes to leave. Gris, who is being held back says she wants to throw her out herself. Just then Pati and Simón walk in. “Are the two of you disoriented? No GPS? Your dinner is across the street.” Back at TC’s house Ro can’t believe what she did. Antonio lends Reinaldo one of his shirts. He returns to the party and they decide after TC’s spectacle that they need to clarify their relationship.

MARIDO viernes 1 de noviembre Part 3

Here’s how “ clarifying their relationship” went down:

Antonio: “You’re going out with him? Really?
Gris: “I don’t want any of you to think the worst. Our relationship began after Reinaldo separated from TC.”
Pati: “That’s why my mother showed up and ripped your shirt.”
Reinaldo: “It was your mother who wanted to separate.”
Antonio: With so many people in the world neither of you could choose someone else? Especially with all the problems between our families?”
Simón: “I think we’re all adults here and I don’t think they are doing anything wrong.”
Jethro: “Who are you and who asked your opinion?”
Gris: Quiet Jethro and everyone calm down. Reinaldo and I are not asking for your permission, only informing you. Am I clear?”
Reinaldo: “I feel kind of nervous saying this but we’ve been attracted to each other from the time we first met. But we’ve also been very respectful. We’re adults and we’re free to love each other without hiding it from anybody.”

So Simón explains to Pati that “it’s kind of like with you and Antonio” which gets Antonio mad and he calls Simón a “fifth-rate waiter.” Gabe and Esther arrive. He notes some tension in the air. Gris pulls Antonio aside and warns him not to ruin her party by bothering Pati and Simón.

Iván and Paloma arrive at TC’s house. TC is surprised to find out that Iván and Paloma are now an item. She wishes them happiness…while it lasts. JP comes in and TC is happy that he doesn’t have Vanesa with him.

Esther apologizes for not being able to stay because she has some work to do. Gabe is going to remain at the party. Antonio approaches Jethro and tells him he should take advantage of being a millionaire’s son to make Babs crazy. Jethro tells him to leave him alone, he’s just mad because Pati showed up with her new boyfriend. Gris tells Celeste that they reacted to her and Reinaldo the way she expected. Celeste says that sooner or later they will have to accept it. “Even that witch across the street.” “Don’t think I’ve forgotten. She’ll get what’s coming to her. You’ll see.”

Slutty Deborah notes that Jethro looks sad and Diosa tells him it’s due to his ex. She wonders if she goes to his room she could cheer him up. So when Jethro goes to his room there she is. she starts to dance and he cracks a smile.

Babs and Kikito are at Tacos Bar. He asks her if she is coming with him to Abuela’s party. She hesitates. He spots Max and Susana coming into the restaurant. “There’s your husband!” “No, the only husband I had was your father. Would like it if we got married again?” “Yes!” Susana thinks they should have gone somewhere else but Max assures her Babs belongs to his past.

Pati and Simón say their goodbyes and leave. Gris muses that Pati didn’t really need to come because she would have seen her anyway. Reinaldo asks her what she meant by that. “You aren’t planning on going over there, are you? TC can be dangerous.” “Only to inform her of the band that’s coming later.” She has a guilty look on her face.

MARIDO viernes 1 de noviembre Part 4

Antonio is outside when Pati and Simón are leaving. “Just think Pati, we could be stepbrother and stepsister.” They leave and Beatriz is upset that he’s paying attention to his ex. He kisses her to shut her up. Alba arrives for the embarrassing moment.

“Ah, fashionably late,” chides TC. She introduces the couple to people who already know them both. JP wonders why TC is accepting of Simón’s relationship with Pati when he used to work for Reinaldo. Paloma thinks it’s just to get back at Reinaldo. Pati asks Tc if she knew about Reinaldo and Griselda. “Don’t mention that woman’s name in my house.”

Esther is trying to explain design concepts to Vanesa who admits she doesn’t know the first thing about fashion.

Clara sees Leo dealing drugs and confronts him. He says he’s doing what he wants with his life. They will discuss it at home. She goes to Tacos Bar in tears and Beto comforts her. She doesn’t tell him why she is upset, just that it’s her son.

Gris calls Elsa and asks her to text her when dinner is served so she can inform Reinaldo. Elsa agrees. Celeste knows Gris is up to no good but feels in this case it’s justified. Gabe tells Reinaldo that he thinks he will make Gris very happy. Reinaldo asks him about Esther but he says they aren’t officially dating yet. Babs brings Kikito home and he begs her to stay. Jethro tells him no.

Clara empties Leo’s closet of all his designer clothing which she puts into a trash bag. He comes home and yells at her for doing this. She tells him he’s going to get an honest job or go to school and if he doesn’t do either he’s out on the street.

Gris informs the guests that a special guest will be coming. She gets her text from Elsa. TC and guests sit down at the table. TC announces she has something important to say but she will leave it until dessert. Gris walks in and interrupts.

José and Elio try to gain access to the community but Fernando doesn’t see either of them on Gris’ guest list. Or TC’s. José tries flattery and Fernando agrees to let him in only if he’s going to Gris’ and not TC’s.

“How did you get in?” Gris tells TC to shut her mouth. She tastes the champagne. “Ew. Acidic and insipid, just like you.” She says she came to return the hospitality she received earlier. She apologizes to Pati for ruining her dinner. And then she pulls the tablecloth out from under the dishes, smashing everything in the process. TC starts screaming and the look on JP’s face is priceless. Across the way Reinaldo is wondering where Gris is. Celeste plays dumb. After Gris leaves, Pati blames TC for this because she went over to Gris’ earlier and ripped Reinaldo’s shirt. Simón advises everyone to treat this as a simple accident and asks Ro to set a new table. TC vows Gris will pay for this.

Gris admits to Reinaldo what she did. He tells her to be careful. José and Elio arrive. “Who let the two of you in here?!” Miguel Varoni and Lino Martone have that gesture thing down pat. It reminds me of Lucy Ricardo and Harpo Marx.

MARIDO viernes 1 de noviembre Part 5

Amalia admits that she let José and Elio in because after all, he is her father and she didn’t want a scene. Jethro says yes to José but no to Elio. Gris relents. “But don’t make it a habit. I don’t want roaches in my house.” José and Elio join the party.

TC orders up some Vivaldi to accompany their meal. “Nothing like quality music to calm the spirits.” We hear The Four Seasons.

Reinaldo agrees with Amalia that if José had been barred from the party it would have caused a scene. Gris admits that if Pati hadn’t been at TC’s she would have really, really enjoyed the scene she caused. Deborah plants one on Jethro so he’ll stop ignoring her.

“Guess who’s here!!!!” yells Sol. “It’s Ana Barbara!!” The singer arrives courtesy of Gigante. She exchanges pleasantries with Gris and Reinaldo while José is checking out her backside. Jethro introduces himself and mentions he’s been divorced for quite a while. AB announces she came to sing and breaks into the novela’s theme “Yo soy la mujer.” It was only a few minutes but it felt like it lasted a half hour.

TC and guests can hear the music coming from Gris’ house. Her guests look like they would enjoy it very much. She has Ro go into the kitchen on an assignment. He is to call the police to lodge a complaint but when he does he chickens out. Manuel grabs the phone and does it for him. The police arrive at Gris’ with a complaint from “a neighbor” about loud music. When they discover it’s AB, they let the party go on. TC is thwarted yet again. She tells Ro he is going to pay for this. Ro then slips up and calls JP “señor Juan Cabro.”

AB finishes the encore and asks for a round of applause and a “¡Viva!” for Gris. Everyone is pleased to comply. Reinaldo and Gris whisper sweet nothings to each other. A Telemundo reporter (the chick from “Un Nuevo Día) tries to interrupt but Gris says it’s a private moment. They then kiss and we see Gabe frowning as well as Gris’ children. The reporter finally gets her chance for an interview and asks Gris what it’s like to win fifty million dollars. She tells her that although she’s rich she’s still the same person: la Carrasco, Marido en Alquiler. José tells Gabe that he was an idiot to lose someone like her while lost at sea. He counters that he wasn’t lost at sea; he was a coward who ran away, abandoning his wife and kids.

Sol asks AB if she will sing a part of one of her favorite songs and although AB is getting ready to leave, she obliges.

TC and guests move to the living room. Simón assures Pati that Reinaldo and Gris weren’t together while he was living with TC. Iván asks JP when there will be a new collection from Fina Estampa. He tells him there won’t be a new collection. He gets up and Iván remarks to Paloma that Fina Estampa might as well close its doors.

Vanesa and Esther. FF>

José says he’s had a lot to drink and asks Gris if he can stay there. “Sure, there’s room in the doghouse.” “Thanks, I have a better offer.” Gris wonders where Amalia is. Celeste finds her. She was thinking about Rafa in a cell while she is at a party. Celeste tells her the same thing Gris did: Rafa has to be responsible for his actions. He will thank her some day for making him a better person.

TC’s guests are leaving. While Pati accompanies Paloma and Iván TC speaks with Simón. She says how much she misses Pati but she wants things to remain the same for now. “To know how long to wait is an art.” She feels that Pati will come back home eventually. Pati overhears this and tells her not to count on it. TC asks if she wants to stay and even says that Simón can sleep in her bed. TC proclaims that she is a modern mother but Pati is a bit put off by that. They leave.

Gris and Reinaldo go to her bedroom after the party. She is glad to get out of the high heels and he gives her a sensual foot massage. He tells her he’s not sure he can leave. “Just try it…”

Okeedokee, Here goes the Santa recap.

SANTA DIABLA CAP 61 (Mostly in order)

Part 1

Casa de Robledo – Post-Santa-Press Conference shows the rerun of Vicente attempting to convince Ines that Willie is dead. Too bad Ines isn’t buying it. Nope, Willie is alive and, er, locked up in the basement, replies Ines. Light bulb moment as Vicente realizes it was Ines who let him escape. Vicente hollers at Ines that she is crazy (what part of crazy did you miss before Papito? ) and wants to know where Willlie is. Ines wants to know why Humberto thinks Willie died in prison.

Cabana de Robledo – Sherlock Santi finds chains and blood in the basement of the Cabana de Robledo. Sherlock Santi thinks they should ask Vicente about the apparent mayhem that seems to have occurred. Santa wisely points out that Santi is crazy if he thinks Vicente will tell him anything. Phone ring interruption – it is Daniela calling in a panic that GrandMami Cano is unstable and Mami Barbara is missing. Chaos at the Cano’s.

Casa de Robledo – Ines wants to know if Willie is dangerous and why. Papito says yes, very dangerous and look what you have done now that he is missing. More yelling that Ines doesn’t think and doesn’t understand anything.

Casa de Mara y Elisa – Art wakes up to see Lazaro looking at him. He wonders where Lisette is. Lazaro reports that no one seems to know. Time for a man-to-man talk now that they are alone.

Casa de Hortensia – Hortensia gets a visit from Lisette. Back so soon to beg Horti’s forgiveness? Even Hortensia is surprised.
Franco Mansion – Barbara and Franco (aka Narco and Nympho) get busy in front of the portrait of the late Gloria Herrera.

Casa de Cano – Santi arrives to a mob of press in the Cano front yard. Daniela is distressed and Santi assures her this will pass. We are not so sure this is a realistic comfort to expect, but whatever. Mama Fran descends from the stairway and THWACK! smacks Santi and accuses him of knowing Amanda was an imposter all along. Santi admits it and attempts to explain “no fue asi”. Mama reminds Santi that the family is in ruins along with his brother Bert’s career. Hang dog face on the part of Santi.

Casa de Newlyweds Vicky and Pat – Post nuptial party is more like a wake than a wedding. Ulises observes there are more waiters than guests. Patricio says he can count his true friends on one hand (the rest of them he has already killed). Patricio is pleased and wants to toast the marriage. One guest replies ‘bring it on”. Ivan has slipped into the party, accompanied by his new chauffeur, Uncle Pancho. He suggests they toast to true love – not!

SANTA Part 2

Casa de Elisa and Mara – Lazaro is lecturing Art about how Mara has suffered over him. Astute Art deduces that Lazaro is telling him all this so that he will stay away from Mara. Yup, Lazaro swears that Mara will not shed another tear over Art. We think he should check with Mara about this.

Casa de Hortensia – Lisette and Hortensia bicker over possession of bebe. Each is indignant to be accused of treating the bebe like merchandise. Nonetheless, they agree 70/30 split on who gets to be with the bebe and bebe spends nights with Hortensia.

Casa de Newlyweds Vicky and Pat –Ivan observes that the reception is more like a funeral than a wedding party. Patricio decides that some more toasts are the answer. He toasts Ivan’s release from prison and Carlos, Ivan’s victim and calls him a plague. Vicky stands frozen with her deer in the headlight look.

Church of Marrero – Padre is hearing a confession from a voice behind the screen that says his only sin is that he compares himself to Christ. Que? It seems confessor has come back from the dead just like Christ. Padre discovers the confessor to be – gasp! – the late Willie Delgado. Willie reminds Padre he is sworn to confessional secrecy about his being alive. Padre fills Willie in about Amanda, or, Santa, and her recent press conference. Her marriage to Bert was part of her plan to avenge the murder of Willie and to show the Cano’s for the corrupt family that they are. Willie seems vaguely impressed with the little woman’s spunk.

Casa de Newlyweds Vicky and Pat – Pancho gets a clue and attempts to get Ivan to stop drinking. Ivan and Pat keep exchanging barbs over who loves Vicky best. Vicky gets her mad on, finally, and tells them to stop treating her like an object. Ivan declares his unobjectifying love for her to no avail. Vicky pitches a fit and wants no boda, no reception and kicks everyone out.

Casa de Mara and Elisa – Lisette returns for the bebe and reports that all is back to normal with Hortensia so they can return to the house. Art seems to have grown a backbone while in the coma and isn’t going back. Lisette tells him he knows where he can find her and the bebe.

Casa de Cano – Fran asks where Humberto is. And what about Begona? Santi knowingly tells Fran not to wait up for Begona. Barbara saunters in announcing she is back and has a handsome fella with her that she would like them all to meet. “ Sebastian” (Narco Franco), with his best behavior come into the parlor and gives Fran flowers and some wine. Fran smiles approvingly. Santi is muy impactada and fades out of the room quickly.

Trebol de Oro – Transito questions Lucy about “Pedro” (Willie) and does he have a girlfriend. Transito reports that Willie walked to the shower in front of her completely naked. Transito seems smitten. Lucy remembers her smoochie session with Pedro and appears to be wondering about this guy’s antics.

SANTA Part 3

Casa de Newlyweds Vicky and Patricio – Vicky collapses against the door and wonders aloud what she has done by marrying Patricio. Speaking of the devil, Patricio comes in and startles Vicky. He tells her he doesn’t need to knock now that they are married. Vicky looks like she is going to be sick. Patricio announces he has a surprise and leads her to it. She still looks like she is going to be sick.

Casa de Hortensia – Hortensia gushes over the bebe and wonders where Art is. He isn’t coming back says Lisette. Pancho the chauffeur arrives with a drunken Ivan to a shocked Lisette. She throws her arms around his neck and Ivan sinks in his misery.

Casa de Cano – Franco follows Santi into the Cano office. Smugly he points out that Santi’s sister is as easy as he was told she was. Franco tells Santi he is finished and cannot escape Franco as he is now in with Santi’s family. Santi glares with his hang dog face and asks Franco what he wants. Franco puts Santi’s question off for another time. Santi tries to kick Franco out of the house but Franco reminds Santi that he is in no position to tell him what to do.

Miscellaneous happenings to end our capitulo:

Pancho returns to the police station and is briefed on the Santa press conference. Hmmm, seems the sheriff needs to get back in the saddle and do some investigating.

Patricio takes Vicky to a hotel room decorated with flowers, balloons and edible delights. He tells her she is the most delicious thing in the room and proceeds to try to get busy with her. She still looks as if she is about to get sick.

Art shows up at Vicky’s house looking for a room to rent. Ulises tries to understand who Art is to Vicky and why he has no money to pay and no clothes or toothbrush with him.

Ines cries that she doesn’t want a rapist’s baby and kills the mirror with a thrown object.

Santa is back in her humble abode and tells little Willie all is back to normal again and they will never need to be with those evil Canos or tell lies – ever again. Little Willie looks skeptical and so do we.

A drunken Humberto shows up at Santa’s house yelling for “Amanda”. She goes outside and tells him to get lost but he tells her he loves her. Santa has a cara impactada. He repeats himself and asks her what should he do?

Avances: Santa answers the door – Willie is back from the dead.

Like I said before, it was quite an episode last night and next week seems to be heating up.

MARIDO

Thanks for the great recap, Sue!

I liked how Patty responded in that very squicky conversation where TC was saying that Simon could stay since (if I understood correctly) the bed was big enough. When TC says that she's a modern mother, Patty replies with just a touch of sarcasm: "Good for you."

Some of the storyline right now resonates with me, since my husband was previously married to someone with narcissistic and histrionic personality disorder (sound like any TN character you know?), and we got together just after their marriage broke up. And there were older teenagers (as well as a three-year-old) and loyalty issues all over the place.

Party fashion--I liked Griselda's dress, both the cut and the color, although I usually think of greens and blues for her coloring. I almost didn't recognize Sol with her midriff covered. And I swear Quique borrowed a shirt and suit from Reinaldo's wardrobe, which of course makes it appropriate when Reinaldo ends up borrowing a shirt from Antonio (which should never have fit, but no matter). Amalia's hair and her dress were great--interesting color choice, but it worked. And Patty's jewelry and dress were perfect, although it was a little too obvious that the same person did both her and Amalia's hair.

Did anyone else gasp when Simon and Reinaldo grasped hands as Simon and Patty left? But I'm glad they could do that--I had feared that Rei might compete with TC in making a fool of himself at Gris's party, especially since the one-line summary for this double episode was once again: "Reinaldo slugs Simon in the face,"). I hope we'll see some more serious reconciliation between the two of them. What TNs have is plenty of time in order to delve into all the relationships, and I think the Reinaldo-Simon friendship deserves more.

The conflict with TC tempts Griselda into acts that are beneath her, from the silliness of buying the house opposite to lying to poor Elsa to wrecking the dinner table. Way out of proportion, and if a real person were doing these things, Reinaldo would hopefully think twice before committing to another lunatic.

SANTA: A truly excellent recap, Mena!! You probably don't know that Caray's "no spoiler" policy extends to mentioning or commenting on what is on the avances for the next episode.

I couldn't believe that Santi had his eyes full of tears when when Franco/Sebastian was telling him how things where going to go in the Cano house from now on. Maybe Santi has allergies or something. He should be burning with rage, not weeping with frustration or whatever.

I guess Inés was not paying attention during Samanda's press conference. Didn't Samanda say that she had proof that Willy WASN'T a rapist? So why is Inés still worrying about carrying a rapist's baby?

Wow, Lisette couldn't even spend one night on her own before running back to Horti. I guess if Bert wouldn't help her, she figured no one would but she might at least have gone through the motions of consulting Arturo.

Poor Ivan. I wonder if Horti will let him stay in her house or throw him out since he wasn't in the bargain she made with Lisette.

Poor Vicky. It doesn't seem like there is any escape for her from sex with her new husband, Patricio. It's mean to say but she deserves from complete wussy-ness.

Thanks Jean! I did not actuallly know that about avances ... Hmmm...

SANTA:

Great recap, Mena! I loved all the humorous observations. Well done.

Willy is quite the ladies man. Not only have Daniela, Barbara, Begonia, Santa and Ines been attracted to him, but we can now add Lucy and Transito. And he's playing them all off each other, a master manipulator, nothing like the nice, honest guy Santa thought she married.

Santa now has at least two guys in love with her, Santiago and Humberto, and maybe 3 if Willy comes back into the picture. Which one would she choose?

Santiago has problems. He loves Santa, but she's married to Bert (and who knows what would happen if Willy appears). He's married to Ines, thinks she's carrying his baby, but doesn't love her (and she's nuts). Vicente knows his secret and threatens to put him in jail. Franco has threatened his entire family. He whines. He pouts. He stays silent. And yet. And yet.......I have this strange feeling that one day, he will be the HERO of this telenovela, fighting evil, saving both families. Is this even POSSIBLE? But that's my gut feeling.

MARIDO

Utah: You understood correctly. TC said the bed is big enough for two. Ew. They just started going out. And if it weren't for the threat of Antonio getting back in the picture, TC would have deemed Simon unsuitable for her daughter. He may have worked for Reinaldo but he was just the maitre'd. In TC's eyes, definitely not good enough for Pati.

MARIDO

Oh, and I wanted to add that, yes it's unrealistic for Gris to do those things to get back at TC. However the story wouldn't be nearly as interesting if she took the high road every time.

Destroying a very valuable dinner service is pretty over the top. Gris will be lucky if TC doesn't sue for damages. Let's hope it was insured.

MARIDO

Utah, you hit the nail on the head with your assessment about Rei. When Gris went to ruin TC's dinner, I was sure Rei would get upset, but he took it rather well for now.

As it turns out, he's attracted to powerful women, who somehow manage to overpower him, this was obvious today at the party more than ever, when Gris was the star, while he was pretty much in the background, in my opinion. SHE fought with TC, SHE went to her house, SHE put her in her place.
Rei is a gentleman and I'm sure Gris wants a partner, but she's been used to drive the boat all alone for so much time, it might be hard to change that.

It could be that without realizing Rei is starting a relationship that will be no different than his old one (aside from the crazy factor). And he might be better off alone on the long run.

That being said, I just want to rake a moment to say how hot JP was tonight. I know we hate him because of the way he treated Esther (although it takes 2 to break a marriage and I don't think Esther is blameless), but he's truly a sight for sore eyes.

SANTA

Hombre, I think the minute Willy comes back from the dead, Santa will want to restart their marriage, thinking that they can recapture the past. But Willy's bad deeds will come out,one by one, starting with the little bundle of joy in Ines' womb and sooner or later Santa will have no other option than to face the facts.
Could you believe Transito, the Bordello Madame, having stars in her eyes when talking about Willy? What is it about this guy?

Jean, I agree with you about Vicky - she brought this on herself, now she better play the part of the loving wife. I really can't stand the character, she's beyond depressing.
And LOL about Santi and his ever present weepiness - what a contrast to the way Humberto laid it all out for Santa in front of her house - he had tears in his eyes, too, but tears of surrender and desperation, not like Santi and his Friday tears, because, you know,it's Friday and he can only full on cry on Saturdays and Wednesday.

Marido

thanks so much Sue,
the captioning was off a bit for this show and your recap filled in a lot of holes for me.

so Ivan was invited by TC to the dinner, hmm, JP went because he lives there, Simon went with Patti, and... so Ivan is TC's only friend?

I remember him from a party TC had at the start of the novela when he brought two dates.

Clara didn't see it, but mixed in with Leo's clothes were his drugs, and all went into the garbage bags, that's what he was upset about.

even the police were funny following up the noise complaint, when they see who it is, didn't they say Ana Barbara doesn't make noise, she makes music!

and Jethro bringing Ana Barbara her microphone, but not letting go.

I hope we see Sol sing again.

Santa

thanks so much Mena,
what a wonderful recap!

the narco and the nympho, ha!
but, I didn't understand why Franco didn't want to fool around with Barbara in front of Gloria's portrait, he didn't really love her did he and didn't he tell Santiago that Santiago did him a favor, but he only needs to get back at him because of his image.

I think Patricio can count all of his friends on no hands.

that was interesting that Willy went to confession,
and gets brought up to date with all things Santa,
he is covering a lot of ground fast.

hmm, I'm thinking that Narco Franco (good one Mena) would be an easy mark without his goons around, but did he remind Santiago that his goons would wipe out the family if anything happen to him, did I get this right? and I'm still not seeing where Franco is giving Santiago any other options.

I like that uncle Pancho is looking after Ivan, it seems the crooked judge thingy may have opened a door for him that Ivan may be innocent, which would also put suspicion on Patricio. It did seem he got the part where Ivan loves Victoria.

hmm, I'm starting to get a little seed, that Santa and Humberto could hook up, (although a drunken Humberto standing outside of her house late at night, begging, didn't help that idea much, he could have brought some flowers and a mariachi band instead).

Anyway, on his side of the fence, no problem, he is totally obsessed with her, (and loves a challenge and she is more that challenging),

But on her side, hmm, what I'm seeing is that Santa is changing, becoming more ruthless, becoming more like Humberto, and getting locked into this game they are playing, like even at this stage, could she just walk away and forget about him? After all, he didn't kill Willy, and Willy did abuse Daniela (statutory rape), and Santa doesn't know about the other stuff, (Orlando),

well I guess it wouldn't be necessarily a healthy relationship, more like she falls for him but he dies, (shades of Flor Salvaje)

SANTA

omygosh, deb, I was totally going to post the Flor Salvaje connection before I read your last post! I have a hunch humberto might go the rafael urrieta direction too ;)

SANTA

I don't want Humberto to die, but I do want him and Santa together.
Deb, did you really get a vibe between them the other night? I've been looking for it for ages, but I'm so willing to see it everywhere, I don't trust my instincts. I love the hate turns love trope and we know Humberto is already there...

I didn't think about Santa as becoming more ruthless, more like Humberto, but hm...could be so.
During her last interaction with Santi, I didn't see much of anything romantic going on there (but then again, even when they were going at it in the cabana, it didn't feel all that romantic to me, either).

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to Santa when she finds out the whole truth about Willy - maybe she'll want a little payback and who better than his biggest enemy, our lovable villain, Humberto Cano?

I really love this tn, and it has nothing to do with it's hero, which is the complete opposite of how things usually go for me.

Amy, if Humberto turns into Rafael from Flor, or better yet, Rogelio from La que no podia amar...I would be VERY happy.

Santa
The only thing is, Humberto hired someone to kill 2 or 3 men & killed one himself, drugged his wife & left her in the woods. But I'm ready to forgive him.

The Narco & Willy are both way more appealing than Santi.

Variopinta, the drugging I can move past, it's not like Santa hasn't played with him, too... And don't forget, he wasn't in love IN LOVE when he first did that.
The killings...yeah, they're bad, maybe he'll serve some time in jail and when he turns 80 and is a free man again he and Santa can be happy together :))
A fly on the wall is more appealing than Santi. I don't know if this is because of Aaron Diaz, I haven't seen him in other tns, but he did get quite a menacing face the other day, when he was first captured by Franco, so I'm guessing this is a direction choice: make the galan as lame as possible, and if he's really handsome and you risk to get it wrong, make all the other leading men material in the show awesome!

Santa

so nice to see your post AnotherAmy, I really loved your spin on DyO and am so happy to see you are still with us.

Adriana, hmm, I guess what I was trying to say is that I'm seeing is a little crack in the door where Humberto/Santa could happen, but it's just a remote possibility, Santa isn't really there yet, and Humberto needs some work, but we have a long way to go.

I'm actually finding Santa's character fascinating in it's complexity, this is how I see her, her married life with Willy, which was ripped away from her, she has carved in stone, as well as her revenge, (but she hasn't written the ending), but it has her repeatedly coming back to Humberto, to kick him one more time, so to speak, but coming back none the less.

and I see her as desperate as Paula, (she just hides it well), when Santiago comes in for a kiss, her knees go weak, but Santiago keeps heading in the wrong direction, first with the marriage/baby with Ines, later standing by his family, and now he has this whole violent gangster thing going on.

and when Willy World comes crashing down on her, wow, along with shaking up everything she has ever known, the revenge thingy just goes out the window, and the only stable thing left in her life is Humberto.

but, this is a lot of speculation, normally with this writer I just take things as they come.

there was an interesting comment I read on LCdaL (same author) that the actors weren't given the whole script, so even they didn't know how their characters were going to turn out. (I don't know if it was true or not).

santa- viernes

Mena, that was a wonderful recap. Thanks so much!

My dos pesos on Humberto/Santa --

I can see this becoming a Beauty and the Beast kind of thing -- exactly what happened in LaCasaDAL. Humberto has been a monster. Santa knows that. But they fall in love and hope against hope to escape together. They are, of course, doomed as a couple. But Beauty may well survive.

On Aaron Díaz--
I think he is a pretty good actor and a very pretty man who is, alas, not very photogenic. (Unlike, say, Carlos Ponce. The camera loves him; he has no bad angles.)

From certain angles, with some expressions, Diáz nails it. Other times he looks downright unattractive. His physique is more balletic than we are used to in this context. The audience here seems to look for the guys who spend time in the gym lifting weights, not doing extensions at the barre. Maybe Díaz should be on the stage -- or in a film where the director can use him selectively, taking time to choose his shots.

Santa

I've actually been enjoying Aaron Díaz in this role with his across-the-room romance, (it cracks me up the way he and Santa slowly come together whenever no one is paying attention), but sometimes I worry that Santiago's hair is going to slide the rest of the way off his head.

MARIDO:

Sue- Thanks so much for the detailed recap. Yes, the Ana Barbara performance did take up a lot of time. I did enjoy the reaction of all the men to her, including Jose, Quique, and the police.

I’m of two minds about Gris letting TC bring out the worst in her. I do think it’s childish of her to stoop to TC’s level. But at the same time, I like that Gris isn’t being portrayed as perfect. She is a bit mischievous. I can better picture a young Gris having fun with Jose, until it no longer became fun to be the only one concerned about supporting the kids, or being cheated on repeatedly. She has admitted her mistakes, and she will continue to make others (e.g. deciding to pay Barbie to leave and give up rights to Kikito).

When someone messes with someone she loves, she reacts from the gut and she acts immediately—e.g. confronting Manuel after he beat Celeste, and now confronting TC after she attacked Rei at the party. I think Rei sees that it comes from a good place with Gris, even if she’s making a mistake. Unlike with TC who just wants to be the center of attention and lashes out of people she feels are getting in her way.

MARIDO

Probably no one will see this, since I'm posting on a Sunday night, but here goes. I'm a little frustrated with Griselda as a character. Yes, she's imperfect, but we're supposed to celebrate her imperfections. I don't see her growing or learning or truly changing. And maybe that's just fine about her as a person, since she's already so good, but it makes her less interesting as a character. (I realize that you might say she's gaining confidence, but she already had plenty of chutzpah, so I don't see this as an interesting or satisfying development.)

It may have been the party scene that brought this out for me--Griselda is really the classic wish-fulfillment character for the cliche core TN audience of working- or lower-middle-class women. She's a wonderful and long-suffering mother, she's a spunky hard worker, she cuts through the crap with some well-chosen words, and a celebrity praises her as an embodiment of the best of womanhood.

I enjoy this TN, and I'll keep watching it, but I'm hoping that the next one I get engrossed in will have a heroine more like those played by Silvia Navarro so I can enjoy seeing her way thinking her way through things and learning as she goes. (Or just some heroine who isn't worshipped by every one except the villains and who grows and changes.)

SANTA

I think Aaron Diaz should consider more bad guy roles. El Tal was terrible, hysterically terrible, but he tapped into his evil pretty well. It might be a better look for him, and then he wouldn't have to cry so dang much.

MARIDO

I'm glad that Gris got even with TC. TC's such a spoiled brat that she needs to see how it is from everyone else's point of view. Not that she will of course. But she should. And I doubt that this will be a regular thing for Gris; she just needed to let off some steam. Or maybe she had a drink too many. She may even apologize the next day knowing her sense of responsibility, but she's owed an outburst.

Utah--I read it and was also disappointed in Gris confrontation of TC. She SHOULD have taken the high ground and saved her "venganza" until Pati was not in the house. What a horrible scene--and 1 ripped shirt, not even hers, does not equal broken Limoges china (although I doubt they would ever make anything so plain as white--but I could be wrong).

Sue--Thank you for your recap. It was a good one.

Vivi you're always there to steal any thunder I might have left in me. (I just saw your posting before Utah's.)

MARIDO

Utah, I read your post, too, I receive all new posts on my e-mail address, so I very rarely miss a message.
I think you are very right about Gris, not much change about her so far, she was already pretty great when we met her. Probably her growth happened in the early years of single motherhood...
Normally our heroines are a little younger and the occasions of learning new stuff are never absent. Gris being a mature woman,I don't expect her to make the same mistakes someone like Amalia might make - although, now that I think about it, Amalia, too, is written like the perfect 18 year old - if such a thing ever existed.

I, too, love the type of character Silvia Navarro usually portrays. And rumor has it next year she'll play a revengy character, I guess it will be something new for her as an actress.
