Corazon Indomable #137: Simona Sports A New Attitude and Miguel Is A Dead Man Walking
Alfonso (what is with all these characters being named with Al derivatives?), aka Fonzie, asks Maricruz to tell him about her life. He asks if she’s married. MC confesses that she was once, but that fate was the cause of her separation from her man. Fonzie says he doesn’t believe in fate. MC doesn’t really want to go there and he decides to leave sleeping dogs lie. He’s got an appointment with his fiancée, anyway. Yes, he admits, despite the times they are a changin’ when it comes to families choosing marital mates for their children, his wealthy parents apparently are slow adapters. The pretty little rich girl they picked out for him, he complains, is the DF poster child for Valley Girls R Us, and he’s not looking forward to getting hitched.
Fonzie’s parents are introduced to us with a discussion of how Mama says their son couldn’t be marrying into a finer family and Papa grumbling that the marriage will be an unhappy one cuz Sonny simply isn’t into Mexican Valley Girls like the one she’s pushed onto him.
In another part of the city, Simona, gets word from her brain surgeon, Danilo, that things are progressing well enough that she’ll be going home in another week or so. The unexpected bonus with that surgery, apparently, is that the doc managed to turn off the bitch switch while removing her tumor. Dr. Dan, besides being brilliant at fixing broken brains it turns out, is also a great psychological therapist and rebuilds broken hearts on the side. (Who knew? She got a two-fer.) He’s listened all these weeks to Salmona’s whole sad story of her miserable marriage during her recuperation. He knows her past and what she’ll be returning home to: unrequited love from the man she married. Salmona and Dr. Dan discuss their vision of true love. The doc, with his emotive hand-holding verging on the professional misconduct borderline, answers in his obtuse way, that (whatever it is for him) she has shown him what love for a woman should be.
The twist, explains Salmona, is that she’d rather not have to return home and if it weren’t for Tavito, nothing would hold her there. Whatever angst or jealousy she felt towards Octavio or the woman he’d given up when marrying her instead, simply isn’t there any longer. Since the surgery, her angst regarding her husband’s affection—or rather, his lack of affection for her—no longer bothers her, despite having loved him since they were children in grade school. In fact, he’s no longer important to her at all! No. All she really cares about is getting back to tend to her little son. Dr. Dan suggests then that if the man is in love with another, then she ought to give the guy his freedom and move on with her life. She smiles and does not argue.
The next day, after modeling for Fonzie and leaving for the elevator, Fonzie’s BFF opens his sexist, male chauvinist piggy mouth to comment that she’s probably in hawg heaven modeling for Mr. Rich and I’m Too Sexy For My Shades Alfonso. However, he winks and snickers, she shouldn’t figure she’s caught him or anything, since this is how the guy plays it with all his sexy models to get what he wants from her, which isn’t just a pretty face to paint.
MC goes home to tell Juanita she’s not going back to the high paying modeling/house-keeper job. It’s a trip through the want-ads starting tomorrow morning--and oh, please send a note to Octavio to let him know where they’re staying in the city.
A few days later, Fonzie complains to said BFF that he’s upset that Maricruz quit her job without a word. He hasn’t heard from her and never got her address or her phone number. (Dope!) BFF plays dumb and doesn’t mention their discussion in the hallway that last day, but hints that Fonzie was probably upset at not getting his jollies from her “modeling” any longer for him. Fonzie tells him it was nothing like that.
Time passes and Salmona is being discharged the next day or two. She tells Dr. Dan that she’s going to miss him. He’s become such a fixture in her life that she doesn’t know what she’ll do without him. He complains that while she’s going back to a her old life it’s with a new attitude, he is stuck with surgeries and patient reviews. He has nothing else in his life and knows there’s more. She asks him to come for a quick visit with her to see her ranch for a change of pace. He agrees.
Jose Antonio and Esther disagree about what Octavio will do once Simona returns from her surgery. He's certain Tav will follow Maricruz to the ends of the earth, but Esther thinks he's too attached to the life of luxury Simona offers. JA knows, along with Viewerville, that Esther's got the two brothers' personalities confused. Miguel, definitely would stay put, but Octavio, nuh-uh.
MC interviews with Fonzie’s Mama for a position as a companion. She lies about her personal situation in order to get the job. Mama tells her to wear an elegant dress for the opera they’ll be attending then next night.
The same day, Octavio receives a letter/telegram? from Salmona in which she advises she’ll be arriving the next morning but will not need them to pick her up in town. Ofelia’s pleased that the lady of the house will be returning. Picking up after men in the house must have gotten to be a drag for Awfulia. With a cured lady of the house back and in charge, life should undoubtedly return to normal. On the other hand, Miguel’s not happy about that since Tav will be packing his bags and moving on while he and Miguelito, will be left out on the street with nothing and nowhere to go.
Meanwhile, Nazario is shootin’ the bull with Blind Girl’s alcoholic daddy. He means to settle the score with Miguel Narvaez for killing his brother. Twinsebio says he’s waited long enough to do what he came there for. Miguel Narvaez is a dead-man walking!
When Salmona returns and arrives back at the ranch, she’s got a surprise guest with her, the brain surgeon that saved her life. Migui and Tav note how the two are doing a lot of affectionate hand-holding, oblivious to the people around them. They exchange knowing glances as Salmona fawns all over Dr. Dan and Dr. Dan goes all “Aw, shucks!” on her. To everybody’s surprise, she even goes as far as suggesting she’ll build a surgical hospital in town if he’ll do the brain surgery and run the place for her.
Afterwards, Tav tells Migui that this is the answer to all their problems—at least, to his—since Salmona’s obviously fallen in love with her doctor. He's going to talk with her later today and tell her he’ll be leaving tomorrow to follow Maricruz to the DF. Miguel reminds Tav they’ll both be left without a centavo to their name. Tav figures he'll ask to keep Miguel on long enough to find something else for himself to do. Miguel doesn’t think he can and is pissed about his bro abandoning him—but then, as Viewerville notes, if he were anything but a resentful, scheming, and lazy slug, Tav wouldn’t have had to carry the load for the two of them in the first place.
Tav has to wait until the following day to speak to Salmona. She tells him she also wants to have a serious chat with him. Before he gets to say his spiel, she comes out and tells him she wants a divorce. All she wants is to have custody of their son. Tav just wants his freedom back--except he asks if she'd be kind enough to allow Miguel a month or so to find another job and place. Salmona has only good thoughts about Migui and says of course she can do that for him. Tav is relieved that it’s all been her idea to divorce and grateful just to be free again. He tells her he’ll accept the divorce on whatever terms she requests.
Miguel, meanwhile, has gone off to the back forty to look after things while Tav has his overdue divorce talk with Samona. Twinsebio is drunk as a skunk and meaner than a junkyard dog when he spies Miguel in the fields. The ranch hands watch the deadly encounter from a distance as he pulls his gun against Miguel and calls him out. Migui says he thought they’d settled that a while ago. Twinsebio says he had his fingers crossed and he’s gonna make him pay for gunning down his twin brother, Eusebio.
Miguel hasn’t got a gun and tells Twinsebio that. However, Viewerville figures Migui used to be the type of kid who enjoyed knocking down wasp nests and banging on beehives, cuz he tells Twinsebio that Ewwy was a scoundrel for trying to rape his wife and deserved to die. Twinsebio yells back in a fit of self righteous rancor that Lucia was loose, probably led Ewwie on, and no doubt was asking for it when he found the two of them together. Migui shouts at him not to dirty his wife’s memory that way. Twinsebio lets lose with two bullets to the chest and Migui drops to the ground while Twinsebio sneers over him.
Tav and Simona’s discussion is cut short when Offalia comes racing into the room screaming for Tav that Don Miguel’s in a bad way. They all race to the pasture where Tav finds his brother bleeding to death and no time to save him. Miguel has just enough breath left to tell him it was Nazario who shot him and to get Tav to promise he’ll take care of Miguelito and to ask to be buried on their old ranch. Tav cries to the heavens over the death of his brother. (I suggest looking downward and crying in the opposite direction. After all, it is Miguel who just died.)
The funeral is held the next day practically. Tav takes charge of Miguelito—who is cuter than a bug in a rug. It's now going to be just the two of them. “—¡Sí, Tío!”
Back in Mexico City that night, Fonzie shows up at the manse, complaining to his mama that he’s got to attend the opera with her and keep two old fuddy-duddy dames company for the evening. Mama says not exactly. The doorbell buzzes. He answers the door and waddayaknow! It’s Maricruz dressed in a beautiful, simple red silk and gauze number. Cara de OMG! it’s you! de M/C and Fonzie.

But may I say, when I saw Twinsie and Miguel riding along, my heart leapt with joy. I am a horrid human being, but I let out a "YES!" that scared the kitties when Twinsie barreled off those two shots. Good riddance to that sorry excuse. And I agree, the new little Miguelito that brought in ( the last one had brown hair) was a doll. Couldn't blame Tav for giving him those sweet kisses.
And we have a Doris sighting...I was picturing Carlos letting out a big Whoop!
Daisynjay
Lila
Another CI "coincidence " with Maricruz now working for Alfonso's mother. Good to see Doris back to mix things up a bit.
On we roll!
Jarifa
I'm glad you pointed out that Miguelito went from brown hair to blond hair.....in fact, VERY blond hair. (That's why I joked recently that the reason we hadn't seen him in so long was that he was probably busy sucking up the Tamaulipas sun while waiting for his growth spurt, and in the process getting his hair a little bleached by the sun.)
I'm mightily confused by the advances. First, OMG ShutUpDoris is back! Two, now that Tav is free why doesn't this show have only one or two more epis? I mean, go join MC like you said you would and be happy! Third, the whole female companionship made me think I was watching a 1940's movie or something? I didn't know this job still existed. Just weird to me.
I have absolutely no complaints today. Things are really looking up. Miguel is dead. Doris is back. Life is good. Heck, I'm looking forward to 2 hrs of this tomorrow night.
Octavio quietly made me smile with his reaction to the hand groping between Simona and Dr. Feelgood. That was some great acting without saying a word.
I also smiled at Nazario quietly finishing his beer before surrendering. He has a rough raunchy but almost endearing style.
Will Paula (AV), now Cementina, resume her weepiness?
Things are really starting to look up.
Carlos
Carlos reminded me that I left out Twinsebio's non-repentant statement to the police when they came to take him to jail for Miguel's murder.
Carlos: I suppose you could say he "swigged with swagger."
=====
DaisynJay/Jarifa: Ugh! Doris-The--Governor's-Daughter!! I am sick with angst over how she's going to try to ruin Maricruz/Mari-Ale as a companion and her entry into DF's "High Society" .
======
Carviville: I do believe Tav will have to compete with Fonzie Paintington III somehow. Tav hasn't really had a young good guy around to compete with for Maricruz's affections.
========
LatinaMD: That was some sunbleached hair Miguelito had! I never understood why the kid had to have Lucia's coloring since he was named after Papi.
Woohoo! Miguel is dead. Good riddance. Simona gets to move on with a new man and a new brain. Excellent. Twinsebio is taking his brother's place in jail. Now, let's see JackAss get that swift kick to the head from one of the horses, and all will be perfect.
Now both MC and Tav will be in D.F. with toddlers. Will Juanita look after them both? Will Tav stay in the hotel lobby with MC and Juanita? Will they find a house to shack up together? What will Doris do when she sees them? I'm finally interested in this show again.
Simona's revival was certainly amazing, and frankly I had trouble adjusting to "Ariel's" jolly smiling, über-pleasant manner. He was such a swine on LFMB that it's been burned into my brain.
Only saw bits and pieces since the Buckeyes were playing basketball (albeit badly) last night, so ESPECIALLY appreciate the recap.
Enjoyed the recap. Truly you are all alchemists, spinning gold out of this tripe.
Carlos...Merry early Christmas, SHE'S BACCCKKK. Hello, Doris, whatzup ???? What an episode !! Paula has reappeared on our screens as my Darling Clementine with a big, old braid...but still holding a glass of wine. ShutUpDoris is alive and well. Migreedy..not so much. I guess I was wrong about his end...no horse accident or sofa spring mishap. I've been playing Clue lately...I think it was Twinsebio, with a gun, in a field. YAY They can plant Migreedy right there where he dropped. Say HELL-oooo to Lucrazia when you meet her in the fireyflames of hades.
Daniel is so sweet with kids. The new , fair haired MiniMig is a cutie. Most kids start out blonde and get darker haired later. Oh well, we have suspended our collective disbelief over crazier premises than this, no ?
I did not feel a bit bad for Greedy Gut Miguel. In fact, Nazario is my hero. I even laughed at the poor attendance at the burial. I didn't even feel bad that Octavio lost his brother or Miguelito lost his father. He may now grow up to be a Clueless Narvaez, but at least he won't have a lazy leech to emulate.
rainy day in LA but your recap and great snark did much to brighten the day. Loved your---A unexpected bonus to $imona's surgery. While removing the brain tumor the doctor also turns off the bitch switch. The Doc also fixes broken hearts on the side.
[she got a two-fer]----I suggest looking downward and crying in the opposite direction. After all, it was Miguel who just died.
----and all the way to the end, your final line was great. Cara de OMG! It's you! de M/C and Fonzie.
Vivi---Everyone acts so shocked that MC hasn't hooked up with some dude for his money or turned to a life of immorality. I have never thought that way about Marycruz, Juanita and definitely not Aracely. Remember Aracely wouldn't even go to the movies at night. Marycruz and Juanita would never even think of going the hooker route. Where did this thinking come from anyway?
Aleta---If you have doubts and have to ask, you are not a member.
The permanent members of the Complainers Club know who they are.
Since several have mentioned it---I must admit that stylish ranch wear for the country and blue jeans for the city had me scratching my head also. Maybe the writers just want to keep us
guessing.
Also it was mentioned by anonymous
11/20 3:29 PM EST that Doris could/would be trouble for MC---And last night we saw the advances
Has Anonymous been looking ahead?
Anyway, It looks like we might be in for another battle royal between those two.
Carvivile---I had only seen the advances but you were right. Nazario had not been stalking Miguel. Miguel just happened to ride by and Nazario couldn't take thinking about his brother anymore
and so Miguel bites the dust. It looked like at that point, Nazario
didn't care about any witnesses or even his own future, he just wanted revenge for his brother. He'll be in jail for a long time.
Carlos---Doctor Feelgood. Did/do you have any special names? Dr. Bone Cracker?
Oh! I almost forgot---Jardinera, your title for last nights episode was a real winner.
Tonight, Marycruz meets Shut Up Doris. Who in their right mind would want to miss this I ask. I can't wait--I can't wait!!!

Susanlynn- Yes. Brando is Arturo's son. He totally stole our hearts in Refugio para el Amor and we wished the heroine had chosen him over the idiot galan. Will he do the same here? If you watched Amor Bravio, Arturo's daughter had a small role in that too.
By the way...clementine needs a companion ???...what century is this ?

I am Anon 11/20 and NO I am NOT looking ahead. I simply WANTED the new galan's "prometida" to turn out to be Doris, but then I heard that her name is Mercedes. Imagine my delight when I saw the avances and there's SHUTUPDORIS, in all her glory!! I love it! Finally, something to look forward to in this hopelessly bad (I know, I know, not to you) telenovela!
Formerly a Lurking Anon,
Naima
So bummed that I have to wait until tomorrow for the next episode.
Jardinera, thanks for the great recap.
Caryn

It's as well I didn't see it--my screams of joy at Mig's death would have traumatized my sweet little dog.
I don't know how the ratings were
compiled but I don't think that many Caray, Caray bloggers were contacted -- LOL.
the gringo
I think the ratings are based on how many are watching... not how many are liking. For some reason we Carayanos keep on watching.
Welcome Naima. You pretty much made my day yesterday by suggesting that Doris might be Alfonso's intended. When we were discussing which characters might return, she was my number one choice. Of all the characters, she's been the one who I could reliably count on for good acting and laughs. Let's hope that she's matured not a whit. And I get to be the one to preside over her return. Drinks are on me tomorrow night.

La Paloma: you had me snorting at the thought of your little pup freaking over your reaction to seeing Migui take the dead man's tumble.
=====
Julia: Well, it was a good night for you to poke your head in. We haven't had that much excitement and switch ups in a couple of months now. No no-doz for me last night!
=======
Gringo/Caryn: Well, take your medicine and then you can have desert. Two full hours of CI tomorrow night! I can't wait either.
=============
ViviDC-- Painters and their Bohemian lifestyle I thought went out of fashion during the Gay 90's , uh the 1890's!! A memo to the writers will only go into the circular file I suppose.
====
Naima: Welcome and allow yourself to rant and rave anytime here.
I love that you come up with nicknames like "Tav" and "Migui". I missed last night episode, and this was a great recap thanks!!
Lila
So part 4 will not have Miguel or Simona in it. Since MC has decided to accept Octavio, then what's left? Ooh Ooh, pick me, I know the answer. MC changes her mind again and now does't want Octavio. And Doris does want him again and we replay this whole crapola again. Yay me. I bet I got it right. Now all we need is Karim to come to MC's rescue. Or better yet, Teo.
By the way, where does Nilda live? Couldn't MC have gone there first to find support and shelter and then figure out her next move?
I truly love this tn for all its implausibility only because of MC and her dimples.
I am fully invested in this novella that I couldn't hardly wait for the coming 2 hrs to watch until the finish line. Oh, the "Perils of Pauline" and the advances coming showing Bug eyed Doris.
Carlos, who do you prefer, Shut up Doris or Luciafer?
Was that young Luciafer having a scene with a young Salinas in "Las Vias de Amor"?
I too, was laughing at that "Lady in Wainting" thing. she's not royalty, why would she want a lady in waiting. Looks like wearing a tiara in social affair when one is not a royalty.
And lastly, Awfelia can go to hell.
Lila
ITA M/C should have looked up Nilda or Serafina, but guess she wants to do it all on her own. Hmmm. Think Mary Tyler Moore in 21st century Mexico City instead of Mpls., and with a kid and a nanny--or Marlo Thomas. She can throw the monkey into the air instead of a hat.
===========
Vida2: The Perils of Pauline and then there's Dudley Doright and Nell--that just about sums up every telenovela heroine's sityeeashun, doesn't it? LOL!
Any thoughts on this?
La Paloma---The high low skirts are a new classy look. Thank you Maricruz.
Who was Nilda? For the life of me I don't remember her. I remember Serafina but just can't place Nilda.
Vida2---I think that we are the only two on the Caray blog that really enjoy this one. Like you, I will be looking forward to the BIG two hours tonight.
the gringo
How soon you forgot... Nilda is Solita's mommy.
Actually, as I said earlier, I'm rather looking forward to tonight's episode and more importantly, the return of the Doris.
Carlos
IMDb says that Nilda was in 15 episodes. I don't think that we have seen her that many times yet
so maybe Maricruz will meat up with her, Solita and the monkey again.
I'm laughing at Vida2's anticipation of tonight's show because we are both on the same level. Maricruz and ShutUpDoris at the same party---what ever could go wrong? I can't wait.
