Mentir Para Vivir #39 Fri 11/29/13 The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Trut AND Its Consequences
Capítulo 39
Lo Del Pasado:
Cesar has returned from the seminary to Lucina’s B&B, ignoring Raquel’s “I told you so” remarks, to right things with Mama. Now that his dad’s living there as well, Ruben has managed to confess to his son about his past--the why and how of his years ago succumbing to Mathilde’s charms and her expected inheritance, and thus leaving Fidelia to fend for herself. (Not exactly what Viewerville would deem true love on either account. What a frickin’ waste, Fi! You could have done so much better!)
Oriana has set up Jose Luis to meet with Dona Paloma the next morning, per Paloma’s request. She’s also agreed, per Ric’s request, to counsel Fabiola regarding the need for birth control since self-control effectively dissolved into stardust and Sebastardo’s male lust. Ric has also emphasized to Oriana that if she goes back with her husband, there won’t be any “negotiated” terms on JL’s part; that a guy like Jose Luis simply takes what he wants.
Lo Del Nuevo:
Ric and Padre Mariano have now decided that it’s time to tell Paloma the truth so that Jose Luis won’t catch the old woman off her guard during their heart-to-heart, possibly killing her from the shock of the surprise. He calls Oriana over to the rectory for a meet with Lucina and them later that day.
Lina cajoles her “abuela” to invite her daddy over to live with them in the big mansion, one big happy family! (This is when Viewerville thinks "cute" needs to take a hike and manners needs a major leg up to the table.) 2nes tries talking Lina out of the idea, but the little girl is a litigation marvel, a natural, and she wins the argument with her mommy. 2nes exits the bedroom and calls Jose Luis. He’s at the Twenty-Four/ Seven Lounge with Berto and takes her call on his cell. “—We have to move the appointment with Paloma to later tomorrow. She’s too tired. Oh, and BTW, I lied when I said she knew I wasn’t Ines.” No problema, replies JL amorously. “--I wouldn’t ever betray you, mi vida. Besos.” Berto claps at the “act”, obnoxious as ever. The two men continue their discussion about Lila wanting to legally contest the will now that the do-do has hit the wind-manufacturing apparatus. JL says let her. What does he care, anyway?
Berto points out that the scandal may be so great for the company that he chooses to relinquish his stock in the company, selling off to the old lady who’d then be ripe for the picking since she’d need a strong man running things there. JL ignores that to ask if he has found the pistol Rick took from him. The house is so large, complains Berto, that he’d have to go through it room by room and there are dozens of rooms! That’s a pile of crap, says JL to the butt-faced one. “--Get it done and I don’t care how you do it. Got that?” Just then Joaquin arrives, gives Bertie the brush off, and then takes his place of pompi-pomp-assed priority on the cushioned purple couch. JL tells him Berto is a useless idiot that he now finds more of a pain than an asset. So, in the old days, offers Joaquin, we used to make those kinds of guys disappear. Problem solved.
Joaquin orders a drink and informs JL that in a day or so he’ll have the signatory problem with the bank account in Colombia solved for his wife. JL is relieved, but Joaquin tells him not so fast. He owes him another one now for this additional favorcito. “—I can’t understand why you want to retire from the business. You look like one of the upper crust and fit in perfectly. You can talk rings around them and stand to earn a huge amount of money at this.” “—My wife would never accept it.” Joqi guffaws and suggests JL shower her with gifts. Works for him. “--Not all women are alike.”
Meanwhile, Berto figures he’ll hit on Marilu for skinny on Ric. He hits her with a sob story and asks her out for happy hour and pumps her hard. Marilu unwittingly gives him the hours Ric keeps, tells him that Ric’s living in the bungalow attached to the side of the main manse and that his manservant leaves every evening and returns first thing in the morning. No, he doesn’t throw parties and his old maid auntie doesn’t either. They’re both pretty much sticks in the mud who do very little entertaining.
That evening Oriana arrives at the rectory and sees Lucina there with Padre Mariano and Ricardo. Ric explains that the time’s come to tell Paloma that she’s not really Ines Valdivia. Oriana realizes that she cannot continue lying to Paloma any longer. “—Yes, I’ve put it off too long already.” Ric is certain that Paloma won’t turn her into the police. Mariano and he advise her to move in with Lucina for a while. As for the three million pesos Lucina and Raqi owe Paloma, he’ll be happy to hand that amount over to Lucina so she can repay it to Paloma in full. She shouldn’t have to feel obligated to go back with Jose Luis, either, they opine, just because she is still married to him.
Oriana has second thoughts about causing the old woman another heart attack. She cares a great deal for Paloma and that’s the last thing she’d want to have happen, she tells them anxiously. Ric reminds Oriana that at some most inopportune moment, Jose Luis could let the cat out of the bag accidentally on purrrr-pose. Or, Lucina adds, if he wants to have sex he’d be able to hold that over her head, demanding his rights like men do. “--JL may sweet talk you by saying he’d always respect you, but men never do,” let alone the malevolent, self-seeking Mafioso type Jose Luis is now. Lucinda adds that if her hubby does get those charges dropped and has a document to prove it, then Oriana can get a divorce finally and be free of him. Mariano seconds that, saying the Church will also allow a separation if the husband becomes involved in criminal activities.
Oriana asks how she’s supposed to fix the assumed identity problem. Lucina suggests telling their whole story to Manolo, her cop buddy from San Carlos. He’s as much a friend as a cop to Lucina and will be able to suggest something that makes sense she believes. Oriana tells them that Lina wants her daddy to move into Paloma’s house, which is another headache to consider. Ric jealously says they’ve already discussed that and it’s not doable. Lucina is totally against that idea also, but for more sensible reasons. “—You can’t do everything your child wants you to. Lina is only a little girl and you need to live your own life, unless you want to end up a bitter old woman, or worse yet, a nun!” (Hive Fiver to Lucina!) Mariano suggests taking Lina to a child psychiatrist for therapy to help her understand their situation better.
After much persuasion from Lucinda, Oriana agrees that she’ll join the others to make a clean breast of it all, but only if Paloma’s cardiologist is there in case the old lady’s heart palpitations get the best of her, She then calls Jose Luis, who is now boored stiff while “partying” with Joaquin and a stable of dancing doxies, to change the appointment with Paloma till the next afternoon. She lies and says it’s because the cardiologist is coming for a routine follow up in the morning. JL sees no problem and agrees.
The next morning everyone sits in Paloma’s office area of Paloma’s bedroom waiting for her arrival so they can begin the whole miserably embarrassing, wretched story. Lucina gives Paloma the “once upon a time” version. Paloma soon realizes she’s hearing 2nes’s past and that it means 2nes is not True-nes Valdivia after all. Paloma, now tired and saddened by the realization, wants to know why they tricked her. Ric explains gently that Oriana had no choice if she was going to protect her daughter; but he emphasizes quickly that she also was worried about Paloma’s health because she truly loves her and wanted no harm to come to her. “--Then where is my granddaughter? Where is Ines?” Mariano slickly remarks that she’s joined her mother in heaven. Lucina relates how Ines came to her hotel and the next day died from an overdose of drugs while swimming in the ocean, and without any I.D. on her. Lucina clarifies that because she was unidentified, she was eventually cremated with all the other unidentified bodies the police find. She hands Paloma the only thing of value that was left in her hotel room. Paloma recognizes it as the gold locket she’d given her daughter before she was run off by her father. Lucina wipes away her tears. “—If you want to blame anybody, blame me. I was the one who planned and caused this whole mess. I thought falsifying the documents and the passport would be the best way to insure Oriana could keep hold of her daughter.”
Just about that time, Mathilde comes sniffing around and enters the room, wanting to know what the gang is talking about that’s got her aunt so disturbed. Ric walks her back into the hallway. He tells her this doesn’t concern her and to let them finish up. Wouldn’t you know it, though! A minute later, Mad Hilde opens the door, in demand stance again. Ric, very perturbed, leaves with her and tells her it’s undignified for a “lady” like herself to be eavesdropping through a closed door the way she’s been. “--Be kind enough not to do this!” He has to warn her twice, second time not as nice.
Oriana now leaves to pack her and Lina’s things. She’s moving out. Ric begs her to stay a bit longer and to give her own version, to then ask for forgiveness and perhaps offer to leave after that—but not like this! Not like a thief in the night! Oriana, though, is certain the old lady will call the police down on her, though Ric says he doesn’t believe that will happen. Well, if nothing else she is certain she will never want to speak to her again in this lifetime or the next. As far as she is concerned, she is a thief. She’s stolen the old woman’s affections and she’s stolen her granddaughter’s identity!
Mad Hilde walks into the anteroom where Oriana’s left her bags. Whose are those, she asks? Ric and Lucinda explain they’re Ines’s. “--She’s going on vacation.” “—Oh, don’t tell me she’s really a whore?” Ric tells her to can the trash talk.
Outside, a few minutes later, Lina returns from school and sees the bags and the dog on the lawn. They’re leaving to stay at Lucina’s, says Oriana. They pack up and Oriana stops to cancel JL’s afternoon appointment. He doesn’t understand and doesn’t believe the excuse. Oriana clicks off without any further explanation. Mad Hilde show up on the lawn a minute later and demands the older maid tell her what’s going on. The old gal stutters out that she believes 2nes is going to live with her husband now. Maddy is pleased with herself and the news and jingles her collar bells with deliciously malicious delight. (Me-owwwwww!)
The doctor has needed to give Paloma some knock-out drops. Mariano wants to assure he’ll stay mum on the things he heard there this morning. The doctor says he’s just like a priest at confession when it comes to a patient’s personal life.
Once Oriana’s settled in at the B&B, she and Lucinda discuss whether she’ll be going back with her hubby or not. Oriana’s still not sure. She needs a job again, but she knows Lucinda can’t really offer her one. (As it is, she’s already getting free room and board.) The topic changes and Lucinda feels that having JL there will be too uncomfortable for Oriana (not to mention Raqi who is sharing his bed), so she’s going to ask him to find another hotel.
Down in the dining area, Ruben, Cesar and Raquel are chatting when Fakecisco shows up and greets them. He learns Cesar’s Ruben’s son and that he’s left the seminary to deal with his mother. Raqi mentions then that Paloma’s “granddaughter and great-granddaughter” are now living at the B&B. Lucina arrives and takes Fakecisco into her office to discuss her need for him to leave to find another hotel. He demands to know what room they’re in. “—I’m her husband and it’s migh right!” “—No, no! You’re “rights” come only as far as she wants them to. So many people know the truth about her past now that if we haven’t all gone to the police yet about you, it’s been to protect her and Lina. So, we need to ask you to find lodging somewhere else.” “Fine. Prepare my bill then!”
Raqi follows him to his room, staking out her territory with JL, and learns he’s leaving thanks to Lucina. No problem, though. He’s thinking to rent out a house and bring his family to live with him there. Raqi wonders what about her. Her? JL and she swap tongues and then he tells her that she’s been nothing more than a pleasant diversion. She slaps him and fights a second kiss, but the two of them enjoy the rough foreplay it seems. (Ehh! They’ll be seeing each other again if Raquel has anything more to say about it--and she’ll make sure she does, natch.)
Ric, meanwhile, mopes around his house in the dark. Oriana refuses to answer his calls. Raqi calls to rile him with the lie that the two turtledoves are back together again. He hangs up and races over to the B&B to find out for himself.
At the same time, Jose Luis bribes Felipe with a wad of bills to find out what room his wife’s in. He enters and gives her the news that Lucina has thrown him out but that he’s going to rent a house for them to live in instead. He threatens her, warning that if she doesn’t come live with him then he’ll see that the charges against her in Colombia are not dropped after all!
Ric gets to the B&B just as Jose Luis is schlepping his bags onto the courtyard. They stare maliciously at each other. Thunder booms and lightning crackles above. The rain starts to fall. Ric looks squarely at his rival and speaks first. “--So, Oriana came here because you were staying here?” JL laughs at him. “—Well, of course!” Ric tells him he doesn’t believe it. “—Ask her yourself.” “—You’re pressuring her, forcing her!” “—Get this straight: Oriana is my wife!” Ric immediately corrects him. “—No, she was your wife while she thought you were a decent man; but now Oriana is mine!” The two start circling and suddenly we’ve got major fisticuffs in the middle of the falling rain in the middle of the courtyard. Eventually it looks like JL has gotten the better of Ric and he knocks him down with a solid right hook to the jaw.
Ric gets it together again though, and jumps back on his feet. With the entire staff and guests looking on by now, Ric manages his own right hook to Jose Luis’s jaw, then does a quick kung-fu double legged jump-kick to the belly number on JL. This causes JL to fall flat on his back into the swimming pool. He sinks to the bottom. Oriana is drop-kick-me impactada when she sees her hubby rise back up to the top with a large pistol in his hand—and he is aiming it straight at Ric, his finger on the trigger…..

I found her hilarious in that scene as well! A good person, don't you think?

Please add me to the rosters of the Lucina fan club. She's spunky. If love is in the cards for her, she deserves it, but I would be just as happy to see her end up sole owner of a highly successful Casa Bonita.
I didn't get to watch Thursday's show until this morning and didn't get to comment on Kat's recap. Thanks so much Kat. It was fab.
I was also upset about the way Piero and Ricky reacted to Fabi's rape. But tns are almost always horrible in the way they present the reaction to rape. The reaction that they show might actually be quite true to life, but I wish more tns would show people deciding to react the BEST way, in order to show the women and men watching what they should do.
Amor Bravio is the only tn I have seen where all the characters took the correct steps after a rape. The girl’s friends, knowing something was wrong, investigated until the found out what happened. Then they went to trusted adults who could get to the next level-- speaking to the girl, and finding out who raped her. Then the galan beats the tar out of the rapist (I know, not really the right thing to do, but I approve). Then they all drag the rapist off to jail and support the young rape survivor in filing charges. A medical exam is conducted (we won’t talk about the doctor's breach of confidentiality). The rape survivor then goes to counseling long-term. And she testifies against her rapist in court and confronts him face to face. No, it wasn't clean-cut and easy, but I appreciate that they showed all the proper steps people are supposed to take in this situation.
Ricky and Piero only being concerned about the condom use is wrong, wrong, wrong. The focus should be on Fabi getting the help and support she needs, and encouraging her to file charges. And if she doesn't want to do that (for the many reasons mentioned yesterday), then the least Ricky and Piero should do is go over to his apt and beat the snot out of that little snot so that he stays the hell away from Fabi (yeah, not legal, but I don't care)!
Piero just got a divorce, but we haven't heard that story.
Pls someone, anyone, beat the crap out of Sebastian, smug gilipollas.
I have a good girl friend, and she prefered Fabiola's love life, than all the other happenings (include the protagonists), so I can accept your views.
AlejoP.
Ps. The sender of probe message I was.
Alejo- Yes, the fight scene was really cool. Love how the lightning and rain started just as the two men spotted each other. It reminded me of a western, or a John Woo movie.

I'm usually one who can take or leave the child actors. But surprisingly my favorite character is Lina. She's adorable and such a good actress. Can't wait until she finds out that her daddy isn't the man she thinks he is.
I agree that Piero is too old for Fabi. He's in the same age group as Sabi's mother. And don't forget that there's a slight that he's sabi's dad.
======
As for Piero's roll in taking care of Fabiola, I say it's his means of redemption. He was guilty of rape and ignored the victim; but this time he recognizes a rape and comforts the victim. The circle is closed now for him with this act of kindness and consideration.
Matilde sure looked like the cat that ate the canary when Orinez and Lina left, didn't she? I really hope they manage to keep the truth from her, because she would call the cops on Ori.
All things considered, I think Paloma took the truth well. Of course, her heart was broken to find out what really happened to Inez.
Marilu is an idiot. How many times does Ricky have to warn her to keep her mouth shut about his (and Inez's) private matters? I really hope those guns are tucked away in the back of the freezer behind a stack of frozen peas.
So sad for Paloma. But I'm sure she'll want to help Oriana, in memory of the real granddaughter whom she didn't get to help. And she'll remember Oriana tried to leave and tell her the truth earlier.
But, I still think that Oriana will turn out to be Paloma's granddaughter. I think Palomita had te in daughters and Oriana ended up with a decent family while Ines didn't. I think that music box in the playroom, the fact that Lucina said Ines did look like Oriana when she took the Ines passport, plus the big Paloma portrait that looks like Oriana.
Marilu has to be dumber than dumb. Don't know why I didn't say that before.
Loved "butt-face Berto". Oh yeah, isn't that the truth!!
Fatima
I thought that guns wouldn't work if they were submerged.
Shame on Felipe. We now know he has a price. Yikes. I hope Lucina finds out.
I wanted to strangle Matilde for interrupting the discussion twice.
Thanks for the great recap. I had just watched the episode and you captured the rhythm perfectly. Great job and great commentary on some of our favorite and least favorite characters. I agree, by the way, that little Lina's character is changing with JL's arrival and perhaps all the privileges of suddenly being a bit spoiled in her living situation, too. Also, while I may be a majority of one, I loved the simpler way that Oriana dressed at the beach and in her job (pre-Paloma) -- looked much prettier IMHO.
I love Univision's decision to run these episodes on line in full. But no previews. Any clues as to what happens next from the previews? Great fight and good cliffhanger.
Lucina is just the best. How smart that she was the one to tell the story!
Oh, and IRT Lina you hit the nail on the head with "This is when Viewerville thinks "cute" needs to take a hike and manners needs a major leg up to the table."
I still like the kid, but she's wearing thin for me.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who didn't like the fight scene. Or rather, the slow-mo kung fu kick and subsequent fall. I found it a little cheesy. BUT the gun emerging from the water was pretty cool. It was a great cliffhanger and I can't wait until Monday.
It's one thing to hear that your dad did a bad thing, and it's quite another to see it for yourself. Plus, Ori has not tried to turn Lina against her father like JL has tried to turn Lina against Ori and Ricky by saying Ricky is a bad person who did something bad to a girl, and that Ori will stop loving Lina if she and Ricky have children.
Sara C., I believe that a few episodes ago, Oriana did say to Alina that her father had done some bad things. The kid isn't having or hearing any of it which I suppose is typical for a kid her age and who is so enamored of her father.
Alina is getting very used to this life of privilege. I think it is good that they have left Paloma's so that Oriana can catch a breather and Alina can come down from the clouds.
Vivi in DC, I, too, thought Mariano's suggestion for Alina to see a psychologist to be a very good one. Now, if only someone would recommended this for BOTH Cesar and Fabiola.
It will be interesting to see what Matilde's anvil will be. Her helicopter tactics are backfiring.
Fatima
Teaching jaded, worldly teens like I do, I tend to forget the innocence of the really young kids so Lina sometimes comes across as a little to naive for me. I would like to think that even a simplistic 6 year old would know that if the police were looking for someone that maybe they weren't all good. Which is why it frustrates me a little that when Oriana tells Lina that the police are after dad, Lina's reaction is "ni modo I still love him and he can do no wrong and oh can he live with us", but when JL comes back in the picture and says some bad things about Ric and her mom, Lina swallows it hook, line and sinker and pouts and gives Oriana the silent treatment. (PS: JLs mind games with Lina are unforgivable IMO.)
Maybe Sandra E. can make a cameo as Lucia Lomeli Curiel child psychologist extraordinaire and help Lina.
=========
ViviDC:
So, ITA that JL does not play fair. He's a big guy and this big guy has determined that all is fair in love and war, and the bigger you are the better you can bully. Again, though I dislike his "new attitude", I am smitten as much as Raquel. Though, the rough stuff bedroom scene totally turned me off!! Guess I haven't lost all my good sense. Lina will have to see him in action to believe what a creep he can really be.
======
Sara C./CathyX: I guess I come down on the side of disciplining critters and creaturas. Knowing that kids can push the envelope at times, I'd say IMHO that a bit of verbal slap-down wouldn't be out of order here. The degree and/or amount is debatable.
; > )
=====
Traveling Lady: Yes! Lucina was the perfect choice to tell the tale. I think Ric and Mariano were all as mesmerized, hearing it for the first time in total, as Paloma was.
======
NieceMD: I like that storyline and the reason Paloma may very well "adopt" Oriana and Alina at this point. It's a second chance to help somebody and her daughter out of as bad a fix (pardon the pun) as True-nes and her mama eventually found themselves in. Paloma was unable to lift a finger while her hubby was alive, but now she's fully capable of it and of having her own way should she use the power her wealth and position afford her.
Vivi -- Tito is a prince and quite a little actor. I think of him as a little dog with the heart and personality of a bigger one. As an owner of more than one small pooch, both nervous poodle mixes, I know from "yippie little dogs" and our Tito did not get that gene pool.
I feel like the proverbial aqua fiesta but I just can't warm to DS or Ricardo. DS is outshone by Mayrin, IMHO, in every scene. She is lovely and perfect in the role. And Ricardo seems pushy toward Oriana and impulsive in his behavior. Every time he says "mi amor" I think of old scratched LPs. I would so love to be convinced otherwise, as this is a good novela that in general I have very much enjoyed.
I appreciate that Ricky is quick, smart, loyal, and proactive. Qualities that SO many galans lack.
I did find DS more believable as a galan in Fuerza del Destino. Maybe having the older father figure in the mix helped temper something about the way the role was written for him or the way that he approached it. I was thinking last night how sad it is that Gabriel disappeared so early as he would have been a more effective sounding board for Ricardo than his loyal and smart friends have sometimes been.
And, I also meant to thank Sara for the delightful suggestion that Sandra E. come back as the child psychologist. The world is small and ever-colliding in novelaland.
1. The cuffs of his shirts are never buttoned. STOOPID. (But is that DZ playing Ric or just a DZism?)
2. He struts (DZism or Ric? I lean toward DZ since I saw a similar strut in LFDD.)
3. Mouth is too small and prissy (DZ and yes, I know that's petty.)
4. I always find DZ's indignant rage more comical than dramatic.
In the case of MPV I even begin to wonder how important the romance is. I am interested in the Ric/Maria storyline, but as far as Ric and Oriana go I would be perfectly fine with them being friends supporting each other through hard times. There are other compelling stories in this one. I'm really not tuning in for the love story.
In La Patrona where the galan was married too and not to his true love, the sparks flew whenever he and the prota were in the room even though the galan was in no way as sensible, quick on the uptake as DZ. Yet, Jorge Luis Pila, who was doing his first galan role there, was uber-believeable with the prota. I think DZ's years as a villano stunted him. But, as Sara C said, there's enough in this TN other than Ric and Oriana to keep you entertained and intrigued.
1, unbuttoned cuffs: I think it is not his decision, rather director's. Because of eyecandy factor.
2, he struts. Look over the zarattini heroes, what i saw: amor real, sorti, lfdd, mpv. They are sometimes wild, nervous and angry. At the same mode: crying female protagonists.
I liked Ivan, Ricardo, and Max (till 144 cap). But I didn't like so much Damian.
AlejoP.
cathyx, I don't think that that brief dunk in the pool would keep the pistol from firing, especially immediately after such a short submersion. Of course it needs to be taken apart, dried out and cleaned as soon as possible.
Vivi, you are right that I'm not a big Ricky fan. Besides some things I've previously mentioned and that Traveling lady and Sara have mentioned, I also don't sense any real acceptance of Lina. He doesn't really treat her in any bad way but only seems to accept her because she is part of Oriana's luggage. In many ways he just doesn't seem genuine.
The way that Maria has been neglected and hidden out is disgraceful. I think that Sebastián is also to a degree the victim of neglect. When informed of Sebastián's abuse of Fabiola I think he said something like, "Great, that's all I needed right now." not "Is Fabiola OK? Was she badly injured?" And then he sends Oriana off to counsel her about contraception? Great... problem solved.
He tries to make himself the focal point of every event and thinks that the most important thing is how it affects him. He's unjustifiably possessive and demanding not to mention immature. He has a rather disturbing (for me anyway) prissy macho arrogance.
Maybe he just needs to lose (not just loosen) that scarf.
Carlos
- Vivi, (luv the new pic), Mayvin still cries too much in this TN, but it is good drama.
As for the strutting, I see what you are saying about the Zarattini archetype. The strut may be part of that.
Carlos-I completely agree with your point about Lina. He hasn't seemed to interact with her at all.
The Zarratini connection is one I had not thought about. I had wondered what Amor Real's Mauricio Islas or FC would do with the role. Both are probably too old for it now and still night now hit the magic combination needed here of being both a bit larger than life and still not getting in the way of the story. I have a recollection of FC in Manana es para siempre doing that well.
It's interesting that telenovela star power isn't necessarily about being a great actor, but presence and fit with the role really do matter. Fortunately, as others have said, there's so much going on now that the romance doesn't much matter. I do wonder whether something more will eventually be made of Mariano's attraction to Oriana. (There's an actor presence, lighting up every scene he's in!)
Carlos, everything you mentioned is a product of bad writing and not necessarily DZ. Wrt Lina-he was trying to interact with Lina, but JL messed that up. Lina said that she liked Ric-which is why she told him, after he revealed to her he knew her mother and her's real name, that she might have seen her Dad. He did take her to the fair, and Ric has shown he cares about Lina by how he offered to sell his shares to leave Ori and lina alone. I think JL saying Ric was a child molester, who takes advantage of girls' innocence did more to stop them bonding than anything. Plus Ric did drop everything as an international impresariio to find tito when Matilde dog-napped him.
The whole Fabiola rape scenario was just written awfully and wasn't going to be satisfying to an American audience at all. Everyone behaved badly there-which is why they didn't show us the rape scene. No one thought to treat what happened as a CRIME and were basically triaging by saying, 'Use protection.'
I also think that although Paloma et al were right about Fabiola needing space to grow up, they didn't give her the tools to use that space/freedom wisely. As I said before, Lina, as a girl who's reared by a mom who loves her , talks to her as if she can reason and fosters
her intelligence, wouldn't have believed the crap Sebastian was peddling, even if she was put into Fabiola's body as a six year old. One of the reasons I love Lina isn't that she's cute, but that she loves Math. She likes to use her brain, which her mother supports fully. I loved it when at the first day of school Lina said 'I hope there is a math class. I love math.' Fabiola on the other hand was sent out as a sheep among wolves and no one so far is doing her any favors by guiding her along the way. I don't see why Ruben doesn't at least give Sebastian a black eye.
Tito is cute, 1 ear up & 1 ear down, but has he ever wagged his tail?
They didn't show Ric & JL side by side in the slug fest, JL 6'4" 1/2 & Ric a mere 6', except rolling on the ground, where it was less apparent.
DZ has a slimmer stature as well.
Wm Levy is 6', but he looks so much bigger.
In capitulo 26 he went to the playground with Alina, when the boring opening party of casa bonita was.
AlejoP.
I like the way that he acts with Oriana. He's uptight! When he visited Raquel, he was uptight with her too. He stood against the wall and she took over. He gets jealous and possessive because he loves her. I don't want a stalker.
OK, from the desk of Cynderella's TMI files. I once knew a guy who "used to swing" with his wife. He swore up and down that he and his wife had a loving relationship. I question that. To me, jealousy has to kick in at some time. How could he stand that thought of WATCHING his true love enjoying herself with someone else. I think that it's driving Ricky batty because he loves her. DZ isn't a bad actor. I love that way he looks after her and pines after her.
I've been spying on that Robo tn and I ain't feeling Rulli.
Cynderella
P.S. Ricky said that Oriana is the first person that he's ever fallen in love with. Every one has a crazy side. Oriana brings out his.

Lucina is a great character, and it's not just thanks to the writing but also to the way Cecilia Gabriela plays her.
I think Zarattini's galanes are always smart and a little (or alot) temperamental. The actors can calm the character as written or make them even more high strung, Zepeda tends to do the latter.
I think then that Zepeda fits the type of character that was written but that his work doesn't make the character anymore likeable. Ricardo is just not a very likeable guy as opposed to JL who can be very charming when he pretends to be but ends up being much worse than Rick when his true self comes out.
I've liked Zepeda the best when he played the earlier version of Iván in LFDD. Before he left for the US, Iván used to be very nice and sweet. So, I guess he can play a more mellow character, he just tends to go for the tense/angry mode as a default and that's my guess as to why he was chosen for this particular role.

Cynderella, we have the same wacko sense of humor. :))

I don't think he's six foot either. Here are my reasons:
Occassionally, I rewatch Sortilegio. He is shorter than William Levy in that show..please review the yellow underwear fight if you don't agree.
Also, I am obsessed with Daniel Craig. His bio says that he is 6 foot. When he was on SNL, he was shorter than all of the cast members. I'm talking barely shoulder height. I looked up the cast member that he was closest in height. It said that he is 5'8". An article with Gweneth Paltrow said that she was 5'9" and she had to remove her shoes because she was taller than Craig. She was saying it. So I say all this to say that I dont believe those websites that state height.
Oriana has definitely taken the high road in how she's explained things to Alina. If I were six and my mom told me my loving dad was a money launderer so we had to flee the country, I wouldn't stop loving him. But Oriana hasn't told Alina about JL's real nasty side, the extortion and personal threats - get back with me or risk going to jail.
I like Ricky, but he does manage to do something to annoy me almost every episode, all the stuff you folks have well enumerated. But I do like that nobody's perfect in this TN.
JL is untrustworthy and selfish and will no doubt just get worse. But he's got charm (and is played by DO, 'nuff said). One thing I do like about him is he gives Ori her personal space. He has not tried to hold her hand, kiss her, etc. Even though he bribed to get Ori's room number and opened her door, he stood in the doorway and didn't enter the room.
I'm still Team Jose Luis. I know, it's disgusting and shameless and any number of other negative -ism's and totally anti-social and anti-PC, but dammit, the guy has sex appeal, smarts, a code of honor among thieves, and half a conscience, and he really loves and respects his wife despite all the crap he caused. Go figure.
Anon 9:52 - ITA w/you about the height of actors. When basketball players fib about their height and most are giants, it's not surprising that others who aren't tall lie. In fact a current RB for a NFC team claims he's 6 ft. I'd walk by him in class (I was the teaching assistant) and we were the same height and I'm NOT 6ft;)
It's OK, amiga. We understand. :)))

NieceMD: Tragically flawed. Exactly my point! His sins are greater than most husbands are, but his reaction is just like the average hubby's. "--My wife would never accept it." He's still thinking like the hubby of old when he could make himself believe he was a regualar customs officer who became a victim of circumstance and doing illicit activities and hiding his head in the sand, still believing he was doing the right thing for his loved ones and to protect them.
What I don't get is how Joaquin actually could agree to letting him "retire" after one or two major favors. It doesn't usually work that way--at least according to what we've been told up here about that kind of life north of the border.

Jarocha: We love it when you drop in to give your cultural insights, as well as the inside 411 goodies about our favorite telenovela peeps. ; ? ))
I'm so sorry I haven't been able to contribute to the comments this week, I don't know what's wrong with me, but my days just slip away, I'm always on the run and when I get home I'm simply too exhausted.
Luckily, I still have to recap, so that forces me to keep the pace one way or another.
Again, I apologize for not being able to comment too much this past November, I am going to try harder, I have to because the recaps are all amazing and this is quite a good show.

Guess we will never know. :))

Berto, sitting in the bar with his legs open, made me wonder how the stench wasn't wafting around, driving away all the other bar patrons!
I'm getting sick of both Ric and JL. "She's mine!" "No, she's mine!" Dudes, she's not a toy!
Up to speed with Friday's show and recap now. The ball is rolling, things are really moving along.
About DZ - I never cared too much about him and in MPV, I don't find he has too much chem with Mayrin, who I think is perfectly cast.
I agree with everyone who said what they don't like about Ric, too, especially the part about his ugly lips - no offense to the actor, but he's just not my type.
I don't really care for the main couple, either, I can take them or leave them. But JL is a piece of scrumptious eye candy!!
I seriously look forward to Maltilde taking the proper measures against all of them, including her philandering-in-his-heart esposo.
I hope that Maltilde can convince granny to lock them all up for fraud, and that includes Padre Plaid! They way they all ganged up on granny to manipulate her away from coming to the proper conclusion. She has been defrauded, by that entire group, including the buxom hotelier who, despite everything, continues to be my favorite character.
I seriously look forward to Maltilde (my second favorite) taking the proper measures against all of them, including her philandering-in-his-heart esposo.
