PEAM #175, Nov. 11 - Penultimate Monday - A Night Without Veronica Is A Night To Party, Party, Party

With heartfelt thanks to our military men and women who give so much to their country, I hope we all observed and honored this Veterans Day (named Veterans Day in 1954) was established in 1919 and re-dedicated in 1938 as Armistice Day, November 11, celebrated and dedicated to the cause of world PEACE. Anyway, happy holiday to our heroes!!

But enough for now we need to see Yuri approaching the doomed Rogelio at the prison that has become so like a fraternity meet up until Yuri steps into the cafeteria to scare the recovering wheel chair bound curly top.  Both looked like there are great barbers in the prison.

Jesus is rushing to set up interference in the prison but Yuri's flunkies roll Rogelio to his date with Picadillo.  Yuri waves a plastic spoon letter opener or juarever while he threatens but the wheel chair is left empty while Rogelio stabs Yuri with his weapon, suddenly when Jesus can get no action from the police because they haven't heard any death screams, the death screams come from a bloodied Yuri.  Rather than being astounded in fear, the adoring Yuri crowd celebrates the fall of the giant and Jack rides off in triumph for the moment.

Chatita's diagnosis of sore throat is confirmed by the real doctor who assures her and Alma that baby Luisa is perfectly well.

Jesus and the detective hear the guard relate the Yuri/Rogelio round that ended with Rogelio rising up in self defense to drop the giant.  Couldn't be helped now could it? Yuri was the first to attack and if Yuri really dies, well party time in the old cell tonight, okay?  Apparently the giant was never gentle and menaced so many. On the yard, the prisoners inform Rogelio that he is now BIG boss.  The gracious Rogelio adapting to his new ruling class status, gives a lesson in Roman history of gladiators and pardons the bespectacled little Yuri-slave with a thumbs up.  His magnanimity is met with knee bent groveling all around.

Jesus flies to Avon to tell Patricia that Rogelio is out of danger for the time being.  Patricia assumes it is all because of Jesus and kisses him fervently until Alma shows up wondering if Pati is up to her old tricks with the new husband.  No she goes back to her operator/receptionist post and looks very busy while Alma doesn't hold a grudge and talks baby talk to the baby Luisa.

UP on the floor poor Xochi is dreaming of how much like OctaMom with her huge pink maternity dress bumping around the office in a path of destruction.  She is shaken from her daymare by Fernando.  She pats her slim body and looks worried.

At the dinner table later, Chatita makes the table groan with the weight of so many delicious dishes.  Babies, 3 grandparents, Pati, Alma and Valentina celebrate that things are better for Rogelio and they are all lucky until the doorbell rings and who is it but that little treat Kiko singing and dancing badly to delight Valentina if not anyone else.

Rogelio hears that Yuri has survived at first with fear but now declares a new reign and era at the prison.  No body thinks Yuri can regain his former power spot.  Party on.

I am nodding out a bit here but wake with a jolt to hear Rogelio tell Fernando that their Papa is alive! Eeeekkk!

Alma and Jesus go to see the priest to discuss their pending wedding.  The good news from the priest that it will be a mere year and a half before the cathedral de Monterrey will be available for them. 22 de Noviembre de 2014.  Eeekk!  Alma wants the cathedral venue so badly that she agrees.  They do remind the padre that their children are growing up as we speak. I am not remembering if they have had a civil ceremony but wouldn't that be more legal for the custody issues??

Fernando and Rogelio continue discussing Papa who ignored them, Fernando was particularly hateful to him chastises the holy little brother Rogelio. Is this why the brothers did all those naughty things and they can blame dear old dad?? But where is he asks Fernando in a flash moment of reasonableness. Okay so who else is coming back from the dead?

The energetic Avon workers are planning Jesus' party when a dejected Fernando returns and asks to speak to Xochi alone in his office.  The crew worry that something bad is happening to Rogelio but Patricia assures them it isn't that.  Fernando whines the news of the Papa who he had been told he would never see again and thought dead is anything but.

In parallel in the jail yard, Rogelio whines to Rainbowhair about the sudden discovery of a live Papa.

Much secret telling and giggling with rushing about the desks with clicking of impossibly high heels below impossibly short skirts, doing nothing ensues as Jesus almost interrupts the party plans once again.  Alma uses kisses to get his mind off the fact that no one does a blasted bit of work in this office outside of party planning and high jinx.

Now the party decorations are in place and the big cake celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Jeuss' employment.  Julio leads the men in dance line and the ladies line up with pompoms a shaking.  Jesus can't believe it has already been 2 years and he doesn't' really feel he deserves it.  They joke about his start as a beleaguered secretary.  Some ingenious person filmed his every minute of the last two years including the welcome kit for a secretary.  then the pixie booted musketeers present gifts.  They then flash the time when Jesus first appeared  in his ruffled raspberry shirt and tight pants uniform.  Testimonies and laughter follow while I count out the time of my penultimate Monday night on PEAM adventures.

Jesus recalls he never dreamed his life would change so much when all he started out to do was come from Chicago to find his Princess daughter.  Well and I made it to home base without an appearance from the satanic beauty, Veronica but look out… here she comes stabbing her way into your hearts tomorrow night for sure.

Thanks, Cheryl, for the recap and for your kind comments towards us vets. Funny to have lived long enough to have seen the arc from being a baby killer when I enlisted in '68 to "Thank you for your service" now. Anyway...

Clearly, Blue Lass nailed it yesterday with the monkey writers theme. This thing is out of control now. The Quico appearance tonight was particularly grating. I've figured out that the difference between Quico and Michael Jackson would be that Michael Jackson had more class. Michael Jackson would never show up at dinner time like Quico.

The best part was Yuri getting stabbed and Rogelio not having to fear for his life anymore. Thanks, Cheryl, for a great recap.

Mike and Anon at 10:54, Thanks for checking in tonight. I always appreciate a word from some of our night owls before I go off to sleep.

Mike, you are most welcome for my words of thanks. And yes, Blue Lass's wonderful pictures in the monkey writer costume is the lasting image of reality! The plot is so sloppy now that I wasn't sure if the long lost Papa is a new useless ruse or introduced before tonight. I'm not at all sure I care either.

Anon, I am happy that Yuri will either disappear or be restrained in his hospital bed for the remaining episodes. Suits me just fine.

I feel like I didn't work much tonight with the party taking so much of the hour.

Thank you for your recap, Cheryl. Zhou recap was more endearing than the actual episode. I fast forwarded through most of the episode. Glad that Uri didn't get his picadillo wish. The party was cute and glad that Killeroncia didn't make an appearance.
Onward...

Thanks, Cheryl, for an excellent recap. I flipped back and forth to another show, so only saw bits. Unfortunately, one was the little guy dancing for the family at dinner.

Cheryl:

Thanks so much for this fab recap, way better than the epi, and thank you for the shout out for us vets, Mr. Mads and I both are.

So glad Killeronica didn't make an appearance tonight! Yay!

They have mentioned Rog and Ferny's Papa before. He was a bad hat that used to beat Rog, tried to beat Ferny and he was just horrid. I wonder how Rog found out he was alive? They have never said.

Yuri is being transferred to another prison once he is well enough to be transferred. So he'll be out of there. I am so glad about that.

I too am glad that Rog had the element of surprise to stab Yuri and make him picadillo. I am glad Yuri is out of there!

That dinner was really nice until Kiko interrupted. I agree with Mike, Michael Jackson had more class.

That party was pure filler. It almost reminded me of the opening sequence when they have that little party in the beginning.

Hi Cheryl, thank you for your terrific recap. Your kind words to our military men and women are a very nice reminder. How lovely, an evening without Veronica.

Blue Lass, a belated thank you for your Friday recap and hilarious monkey writer pics. So funny!

Rogelio didn't just find out their father is alive. He's known all along, he just never wanted Fern to know it. He said the father is in an old folks' home (that he's been paying for all these years) and he just thought it was time for Fernando to know too. I guess he wants to come clean about everything.

You're a gem Cheryl. Great recap. I got caught up with a phone call and missed parts, and apparently didn't miss much. When will this end.

But am glad that Rog is safe now and no one is going to hurt that handsome face....er guy anymore. But WTH with daddy coming in? Is this supposed to be some weoird reveal?

Sorry, but when I got to that party, my fingers just hit the remote and went to the basketball game. Just couldn't watch the silliness.

Heavens, when does this end??

Daisynjay

Unfortunately when this ends we get 2 hours of CI .. even worse from my POV. So the reason we get the wedding pushed into next year is so that all the folks can be there ?? ... Rogelio out of jail presumably and Xochi with her 5 kids ... and Veronica long dead, ojala. Wonder if Elias will be there, HA !!

Cheryl- The recap was so much better than the episode. But I am happy that Rogue is now safe. Yay!

Mads and Mike- Happy belated Veterans Day!

I think the writers did want the party to be a version of the one in the opening credits. That one is better. But in both, Jesus is still the most boring person at the party. I ffd through the walk down memory lane hidden video presentation.

Quite happy we got a Virus free episode.

Thank you, Cheryl! Your recap is very funny, and I KNOW the episode wasn't... actually I didn't get home until the last five minutes. They were watching old footage of Chucho's early days at Avon and I assumed the whole thing was a clip show!

I'm glad I didn't delete it, because I really want to see Yuri get shanked!!

Rog & Fern's dad still alive? Does this mean we're going to meet ANOTHER new character? Are we going to have another round of "family is the most important thing"? Yikes. (And where does Vero fit into the "family is the most important thing" message, hmm? Will we find that out before this mess is over?)

"Much secret telling and giggling with rushing about the desks with clicking of impossibly high heels below impossibly short skirts, doing nothing ensues..." Ha ha! You said it, girlfriend!

I also loved the image of Veronica stabbing her way into our hearts once again. As my Dad used to say, "Don't fail to miss it!"

For all the rehearsing they did, I didn't see much dancing.

I was wondering what happened to Alejandra.

Here's a thought: Fern and Rog's father is Xochi's long lost bio dad. Now, that's a subject for a whole other TN.

Nanette

Nanette, if we're ever going to meet Xochi's dad, then it seems to me that he almost HAS to be Rog's dad unless we're going to have a parade of long-lost relatives in the final week. (Which is possible, of course, but if so I'm going to be really angry that we had to wait until the last minute to meet all of these people.)

But EEEEUUUUWWWW if he's also Fern's Dad, incest city.

Oh, right. Dammit. OK, maybe Rog's dad is really not Fernando's dad.

But then Fernando's dad has to be someone new... unless it's Augusto. Or maybe Xochi's dad is Augusto. As long as Xochi's dad isn't also Fernando's dad. Argh!!

We can only hope Fern was adopted. But then we have to go on a search for HIS mom and dad. This TN is will be like kudzu.

Nah, it can just end up being a loose end. (Wouldn't be the first time a TN left someone's parents a mystery.) We can let Rog and Fern have the same dad, and pretend that Xochi is related to Tracey Rodriguez's piano-playing son.

Anyway, I'd still rather have Xochi's father have something to do with Marisela's mother. That would tie things up neatly.

Rogelio's father can be Xochi's father and Fernando could be adopted, which is why the father always treated him badly. Or Rogelio and Fernando have the same father and Augusto is Xochi's father. Marisela's mother can be the woman that left Panfilo and ruined Sebastian and his marriage.

Really? Did we really need ANOTHER episode of "how great thou art" Jesus? Did we need to see super-pregnant Xochi knocking into things and whining (still)? Did we really need to see the mini-slime trying to sing and dance?

I miss Veronica - even for one episode!

Haven't had time to lurk around here lately and I'm surprised by all the negative comments for this novela. It's supposed to be silly and stupid. No different than LFMB or Por Ella Soy Eva. I think Pati has stolen the whole show. She's a great actress and should be better roles. I think FC was trying to show his range here that can include the somewhat serious guy in a comedy. I don't think it will hurt his career at all. He's FC and nothing will change that. His part was similar as the "straight man" (in a comic sense)was basically the same in the theater show he did in 2011 Manos Quietas. I have a feeling that the new theater production he's in, Obscuro Total, with him playing the villain, is a prelude to his next novela where he will also be a villain. Just my dos centavos.

It may have worked for FC if it had been a good comedy. It wasn't.

It may have worked if he had stuck to his "straight man" role. He didn't.

FC's attempts at being funny - his 6 facial expressions that somehow all ended up looking the same, are pathetic.

And forget the wooden Barbie, Alma.

Pati DID steal the show. So did Rogelio, Elias, and Valentina (up until the time they added the creepy kid), even Veronica. Not so much Chucho, Alma, Xochi or Chatita.

Oh dear the comments make us all sound so unhappy. I wonder if the monkeys might give us a reprieve for the finale.
