Corazon Indomable, Cap. 155, Thur. 12-12-13 -- A Mournful Maricruz Sits Stubbornly in Her Prison Cell
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
. . . no, that won’t do, although much jabberwocky and wacky jabber is to be found in recent episodes of CI. Let’s look for another poetic reference to set the scene for our jailbird.
It's a hangin' day in Wolf City, Wyomin'
Wolf city, Wyomin', eighteen ninety four
They're gonna drop Cat Ballou
Through the gallows floor.
She killed a man in Wolf City, Wyomin'
. . . well, that’s not exactly right, either. We know MariCruz didn’t actually kill a man, but she’s determined to claim it.
Perhaps we’ll share a few lines from that famous prison epic, The Ballad of Reading Gaol:
The moaning wind went wandering round
The weeping prison-wall:
Till like a wheel of turning-steel
We felt the minutes crawl:
. . . We’ve certainly felt some minutes crawl with MC incarcerated. Let’s see how she does in today’s episode.
Seen Previously
Ed and Tav run into each other at the airport and catch up with Tav’s miserable life. He’ll wait for MariCruz to get out of prison.
Carola is sent to isolation as punishment for the knife wound scam she pulled on Maricruz. For some reason, she’s not happy with the situation.
Maria is at Don Ale’s former mansion, talking to the maid/caretaker with the cadaverous face and messy hair. She wants to find some of the family, but none of those names are known to the maid. (She looks like she would fit in with a family named Addams.)
There’s a Ray of Hope for Maricruz, If She Would Only Recognize It
Natasha visits MC in prison. (The guards probably haven’t seen this many visitors for one prisoner in a long time.) MC recalls what a ruckus Natasha caused with her painting career in the Rancho Abuelo neighborhood and asks (bingo!) “Que haces aqui?” Natasha is interested in MC and she knows who really killed Alfonso. She wonders why MC wants to be in prison?
MC tells Natasha, “I’m the real killer and no one will make me back down.” She wonders if Octavio sent the artist to see her? No, she was impelled by her conscience. Natasha is going to testify and the evidence will show Anibal is the true murderer of Alfonso. “You’ll thank me one day,” she assures MC. La Salvaje wonders if this version could be true.
MC returns to the general population to find Carola and Carmela going at it. Carmela’s testimony caused Carola’s punishment for the knife trick, so Carola tries to choke her former ally. We see a few fun close-ups of this blond on blond professional level catfight.
Galan #7 Asks Elsa “Who’s Your Daddy?”
Since Alvaro’s in town helping MC, he stops to see his daughter, Elsa, aka another purported fiancée of Alfonso. He was cruel to separate her from the man she loved and she hates him! Alvaro insists that Alfonso’s gone and won’t return. (Not sure why he didn’t go into detail.) The rebellious teen Elsa must not read the newspapers, since she insists that the defunct painter is going to marry her. One day she’ll go find him, wherever he is. (So sad to see such ignorance in the young. If she were truly stalking him, she should know about his murder.)
Maria Struggles to Negotiate the Big City (Compulsory Comic Relief)
The caretaker at the mansion, named Agripina, gives Maria the lowdown on how things work. Her bosses bought the house after Don Ale lived there, then died in an accident. She stays there in case other family members show up. (No heirs, no lawyers, que?) She sells the contents to live. Maria rambles on about ghosts and a rather pointless story where her brother stole a hat from a dead guy and so on. A curtain falls off the wall, scaring the two, and Agripina invites Maria to stay.
Maria is talking to Filemon in a field near the house (he must be staying there.) Agripina told Maria where the prisons are. Maria will either find MC or find a job. On foot, Maria is overwhelmed by the city streets and the traffic she sees from an overpass. Her classic “country bumpkin visits the big city” shtick is complete with a pratfall on the sidewalk.
As Usual, Natasha Pursues Her Goals
- At a memorial service for Anibal, Natasha eulogizes him and reminds the other painters they loaned works to the talent-challenged Alfonso.
- She explains how Alfonso stole the “Liberation” painting, provoking Anibal to stab him. Dismay spreads over the faces of the assembled artists.
- The intrepid Natasha visits Clementina, where she reveals the true story of the theft and the resulting murder. The painters hope to vindicate Anibal’s talent and his quest to recover “Liberation” by buying back the work.
- Clementina is angry and disbelieving and orders Natasha to leave.
- Francisco, Clem’s husband, overheard Natasha. He respects his wife’s grief, but thinks they should accept the truth and see justice done. Their son was blinded by his ambition.
- Natasha rallies the painters’ group to further action. They need to go all together to Clementina and agree on tomorrow. (Except the snooty one who’s busy—name?)
The Kindly Cira Also Has a Goal
Unlike Elsa, Cira does read the newspaper and even quotes it aloud to MC. The true killer is Anibal, so MC should drop the charade. Is she covering for her ex-husband? Guilty people never want to pay, so MC should tell the truth. Once the police experts question her, they’ll discover her innocence. Cira has experience and could share some tips with MC, maybe help her get a shorter sentence. MC admits she didn’t kill Alfonso and begins her story. The closeup of Cira’s pocket suggests a tape recorder hidden there.
Cira takes the recording to the warden and lets him hear the true confessions of MC. The warden agrees that the painter who fell from the airplane killed Alfonso and MC is innocent. They agree they won’t let MC know how he learned the truth (I guess he doesn’t read the papers, either.)
One More Visitor for MariCruz
Tav has been spotted reading newspapers before (way to maintain that brain cell, Tav!), so he gets credit for doing it again. He sees the story of Anibal The True Murderer and thinks this could be MC’ salvation. He also gets credit for a cute scene with Miguelito demonstrating his new jumping skills from kindergarten.
Tav hotfoots it to the prison for a visit. When MariCruz meets him in the visiting area, she’s thrilled to see Lupita peering around the table. She hugs and kisses her child, thanking Tav for bringing her. She’s going to make the best of this (possibly last) time with her daughter. Tav thinks aloud how happy they might be if they could only be together. Lupi still likes to play with her mama’s hair.
Tav explains to MC she no longer has to stay here—she’s innocent. She says even if she does get out, she’ll stay with Lupi and he will marry Doris. Not so, he rebuts. She pleads with him to take good care of Lupita and when she’s older, tell her MC died. (Que que what! Did the prison rats nibble MC brain?) Tav also rejects this idea, but MC urges him to do it! (haz lo)
Determined martyr MC tells Lupi that Mama has to stay a little longer, but her dad will take care of her. Tears and hugs with Lupi follow. Her mama loves her very much! MC tells Tav they can’t be together, since they’ve hurt each other too much. She loves him and she always will. He’s heard the engineer is back in her life. Only as a friend. She doesn’t want Lupita to see her anymore in prison. The guard calls time and the visit must end.
The sad farewell continues. Tav asks if this is good-bye? They kiss briefly. MC thanks him and he replies no need, she’s his only love. They exchange “Te amo” and move into a long kiss and a longer hug, with Lupita’s head between her parents’ tear-stained faces.
Preview—MC walks out of prison! Free and wearing jeans instead of a dreary gray dress. Hair product can’t be too far behind.

Thanks so much for this delicious recap. I too think Agripina would be a member of the Adams family. She and Maria make a funny pair.
I am glad Cira did what she did by making that tape. Tasha has actually redeemed herself, and told MC herself, but MC is stuck on stupid. After hearing Cira read the paper MC should have gone to talk to anyone that would listen to her. I am glad for the previews.
I can't believe after all this time she is still telling Tav, nice to have known you, take my daughter and tell her I'm dead, que, que, what?????? Lupita is really her whole life.
I liked the previews of MC walking out of that prison and Doris basically saying Oh, Sh*t! Too funny.
Thanks again La Paloma for bearing with this hawt mess and giving us such fantastic recaps : )
Oh, and loved all the poetry, especially the Cat Ballou one!
And now you too are free, m'dear! Bien hecho.
Cira did a great job with Maricruz in getting the recording and also being a voice of logic in Maricruz's twisted view of her situation. Clearly a good influence.
Looks like we are right on schedule for that happy ending.
Jarifa
I am clueless on why MC has the attitude she does. I suppose she will go through some major lightbulb moment and they will ride off to the mansion. (total set up this will be there new home).

So, Carola and Carmela are in solitary confinement... They are there together so it isn't really solitary confinement... Normally, I would have a problem with this but I like it.
I so do not like Natrasha but I'm happy that she stepped up. She gave Anibal a proper burial and she made it known that he is to blame for Alfonzo's death. Go Natasha!
I'm glad MC will be getting out of prison very soon. Now if we could get a little Super MC before this is all over I'd be thrilled (maybe give Doris a run for her money). My hopes are not up. I'm still a fan though.

It just doesn't make sense why MC would want to stay in jail. It just doesn't make sense!
We may have had a TN first with Cira managing to extract and record a confession from Maricruz that she didn't kill Alfonzo.
I have only a minor quibble with a detail in your excellent recap:
"Cira has experience and could share some tips with MC, maybe help her get a shorter sentence."
Actually, I think that she told her that she might be able to help her convince authorities to extend her sentence... perhaps even to thirty or forty years.
Maybe gringo has an explanation for Maricruz's bizarre inexplicable behavior and strange decisions of late.
As many may have certainly noticed but no one has mentioned so far, the Gran Final is scheduled for Sunday. I have committed to every other Friday and there is an episode scheduled for Friday. Soooo....
Carlos
I guess I was supposed to be moved by final scene last night but CI has hardened my heart. I cared not at all about the family reunioun. Whatevs.
Many thanks to all the recappers. I'm sure these last weeks have been torture.
was gone, vanished. ARRRRRGH. I will try again.
Wow, a bang up job on another slice of insanity--NOT! On another great show is more like it. Jabberwocky and wacky jabber
didn't do a thing for me but the country bumpkin visits the big city did. Another great line was,
MC walk out of prison--hair product can't be far behind.
Maria and Agripina together was nice. I'm surprised that the complainers weren't yelling FILLER
FILLER!!
I didn't know that the butler was actually a maid. I guess that more than one got fooled on that one but I do think that Agripina must have been borrowed from the Adams Family. LOL
The mansion as Mari and Tav's new home? Maybe.
Caryn---I'm with you. I'm ready for Super Mari to return. Don't know if that will happen but I'm sure that ShutUpDoris will soon be nothing more than a forgotten part of history. [sorry Carlos]
Did anyone notice that after the
Natasha Clementina confrontation
last night, Natasha ran off without her purse.
Lila---Bite your tongue!!
Tofie---As Corazon Indomable's biggest fan, I read each and every comment. I saw your response to me. I still say that it was well thought out and very good---but no, I'm still not buying it. Maricruz feeling guilty because she had an affair? NEVER!
Maricruz pregnant with a little Alfonso? You're way out on a limb
reaching for???
Cathyx said maybe Gringo can explain why Mari wants to stay in jail. No Cathy, I can't. I don't know why Mari is condemning herself and is willing to except persecution. I don't have all the answers but that's one of the many questions of life. Why do people do the things that they do is a universal question that doesn't always have answers. Maybe
we will find out in the next episode.

Since none of us recappers are scheduled for Sunday, what's our choice for the Gran Final?
a) skip the recap
b) tag team the recap
c) draw lots for the recap
d) let Lupita and Miguelito recap
I was actually going to reluctantly volunteer to do the last recap for the finale. I would technically be up next on the rotation if the damn thing were on a Monday.
As for this recap-- Great job La Paloma. I don't blame you for thinking that MC spilled the truth to Cira in exchange for advice on a lesser sentence. Because the truth made NO SENSE! Who the heck wants advice on how to get a longer sentence? Crazy people, and MC, that's who.
I laughed through this whole ridiculous episode. MC is told they know who the real killer is, and he's dead, and she still insists that she's guilty. Then she gets all teary eyed about never seeing her only child again-- this after going through a huge scare about that child being sick, and not being able to be with her. But she still insists that she's guilty, and wants to try her hardest to get the maximum sentence. WTF?!!!

It would make more sense if Maricruz had been wrongly accused but then went along with it because she was so distraught at seeing Dumtavio snuggling Doris, as an exposition of her inner turmoil and dispair. Her venganza never made her happy and going to jail was a sort of breakdown. I just wish it had made more sense in the story.
The way it played out, she made the ultimate sacrifice for him, but he did nothing but doubt her and not want to get his hair messed up. He basically helped her only in a lukewarm way that also benefited him. It took other women who barely know her, the good guard/nice inmate/Natasha, to free her. Dumtavio is going to have to really lay down his life for her in the ultimos capitulos for them to get back together.
By the way, it drives me crazy when Dumtavio goes to nice restaurants with Doris and cheerfully invites Ed to the café while the supposed love of his life is rotting in jail. Oh well, maybe it's a case of opposites attract and there can only be one drama queen in every family (?)
They have never been a functional couple (they aren't even functional individuals). There was not one moment in their courtship or short marriage that was steady or normal. Their best moments where when they were making out or having sex. In over 150 capitulos, we have not seen one shred of evidence that these two can work towards a common goal, compromise, or even live together. However, if there is one thing I know these writers will do, it's put Tav and MC together for their Felices Para Siempre at the end. Juaever!
Although she is not killing herself physically, by the experience she suffered in solitary confinement all the more convinced her of her sure as good as death condition if she remained in jail.
'Why, she needs another Cira or Teresa to place her in a hospital to rescue her in this state of mind. Something needs to be done and have doctors recognize her mental anguish. It's just too bad that the writers are portraying her as an overkill drama queen.
