Corazon Indomable: In The Pits And Pounding Sand
Cap 153
As the gods in Telenovelaland often say, “be careful what you ask for cuz you just might get it!” Maricruz has gotten exactly what she asked for and more and I, for one, am all out of sympathy cards.
Carola plays the innocent victim to perfection and gets back-up from the crooked guard, Dominga. The warden, who prides himself on being soooo in the know with his prison and his inmates, apparently is not when it comes to the scam these two are running. He gives Maricruz three days in solitary. (Ehhh! Viewerville is so over la Estupida de Maricruz and the burro she rode in on! It cringes every time she opens her mouth. Where in the world is majestic miracle-maker de Maria Alejandra Mendoza? HMMMMM???? Has our Mendoza totally disappeared? Why-oh-why are the telenovela gods forcing us to make do with la mentecata de Maricruz Olivarez?)
At the same time, Octavio is having a tete a tete with his one time and current squeeze, Doris-Daughter-of-the-Governor-de-Isla-Dorada. This conversation is in its umpteenth iteration and about as scintillating as Juanita’s with Lupita. Anywhoo, bottom line is that M/C now knows that he didn’t kill Alfonso.
M/C is lying about her killing Fonzie also, Tav tells Doris, but he can’t prove it. He is down in the dumps cuz although he and M/C still love each other, she made it clear that she wants nothing more to do with him! She refused the legal help from Navarro cuz she knew Doris was paying for his services, he says. A brain cell or two short’s on. How did she know that Doris was paying for Navarro, he asks her? She also knew they were getting married. Sly Doris plays dumb and stays mum, and they agree that the lawyer must have let it slip.
Tav pathetically continues that he believes M/C cheated on him with Alfonso, but deep down believes she didn’t give him permission to paint her in the nude. (And this makes a difference how?) She was rebellious as ever, playing all sorts of mental games with him, but M/C was more emotionally fragile and so tired, unlike all the times before. He then admits to kissing her, but only to find out if he still felt something for her or not. Doris gets her knickers in a twist. Just when is he going to stop humiliating her like that, she asks???? He doesn’t feel a thing now, he assures her. (Have you seen my coop full of snipe?)
Either way, it’s going to be very difficult for M/C to retract her confession and be freed while the real criminal is still on the loose, adds Tav. So, no relationship worries now or in the future. Doris gives him a major eye roll. “--¡Ojalá!” “--Still want to get married?” Apparently, yes. Tav takes a moment to reflect that M/C has left him in an emotional muddle he’ll never be able to find his way out of.
In another part of Mexico City, Fonzie’s little Miss Jail Bait Model turns out to be none other than Alvaro’s sixteen year-old daughter. He’s grounded her for trying to see some older dude and she insists she hates him for it. Like most dads of sexually precocious sixteen year-old beauties, he believes he’s lost his daughter’s love forever. (Cry me a river. If he only knew! Let her stew a while, papi!)
Back at the women’s prison, Maricruz starts her punishment. Carola high-fives her jail buds and thinks up some more mischief to give her grief over.
Dominga threatens Maricruz with seeing she gets a full week next time there’s trouble. (Viewerville hisses and boos appropriately.)
La India Maria and her burro continue their trek to the D.F. --FF>>FF>>
Maricruz takes note of the tame rats in her cell. FF>>
The next day Alvaro tries to visit Maricruz but is told by the warden that she’s being punished for trying to stab her cellmate. No leniency in a situation like this one, says the warden.
Carola stops outside the window to M/C’s cell to harass her. She brags that now Maricruz has seen how powerful an enemy she is in there and informs her that from now on she’s going to have to ask how high anytime Carola tells her to jump since there’s nobody there to protect her like there was on the gambling boat. M/C says pish and piddle and promises to give her as good as she got once she’s out of there. Carola gives one last bit of bilge before going back to her cell. She lies to M/C about Tav coming by for a visit and leaving word that their little daughter was seriously ill and was continually crying for her mother. Maricruz can’t think of anything else but her sick little girl from thereon out.
Carola runs into Dominga, who apparently has her own hate on for M/C. She asks the guard to tell M/C the same story about her ex coming to give her the word on her sick little girl.
Tav, meanwhile, has found a nice apartment for them all to live in once he and Doris are married. Doris tries being her sickly sweet self, but apparently Miguelito isn’t having any of “la bruja” ése. Tav looks extremely tired as he listens to Doris drone on about what fabulous, no-expense-spared, wedding she and he will have.
Once Doris has made her exit, Tav tells Juanita he would like to have her stay on as nanny once they return to Isla Dorada. Juanita says of course; she’s promised Lupita’s mama she’d always look after her. However, she cannot believe that he’s really going to marry Doris! (Naw, we can’t either, but let’s face it. We know he’s weak.)
Back at the prison, Dominga decides not only to keep the lie going with Maricruz, but to add her own embellishments. Lupita is deathly ill.
Meanwhile, Tav explains to Juanita how he tried to get M/C to consider coming back to him, but that she refused. The only thing he got out of that last visit with her is that he now knows she really didn’t kill Alfonso. Despite everything, she insists that she had an affair with the guy, let him paint her nude and all sorts of wild things. (Waddaya expect? Anybody who’d purposely send herself to jail for a murder she didn’t commit is S.I.C.K. She doesn’t need a laywer. She needs a shrink.) He tells Juanita that whatever she might have done, she’s always been pure of heart and he’ll forgive her, no matter what or when. She’s the mother of his little girl and the love of his life. (That still doesn’t answer Juanita’s question about marrying La D.O.G., though, does it? HMMMM???)
Natasha finally tells Fonzie’s old frenemy, Juan Jose, that Anibal has confessed to her that he was the one who really killed Alfonso. He doesn’t want to believe it. He still thinks it really was Fonzie’s pilot friend.
Maricruz has finally lost it. She begins to whimper through the window of her cell door over her little girl. “—Let me out for a minute only! I need to make a phone call to find out about my little girl! Pleeeeeeeeease!!!” --How long till she realizes if she wants to get their attention she needs to start using that little tin cup?

So true! So true! and I also loved your quip about "being all out of sympathy cards". I'm with you, amiga. Thanks for the great recap.
It isn't bad enough that this novela seems to have no end, but now we have to endure the private hell of Alvaro and his zesty hijo.
Maybe crayola's hand will get the prison rots and all this jibber jabber will end.
I couldn't help but feel unsympathetic to MC's plight as well. I tried to feel bad for her, but then I kept thinking that she's the one who put herself in jail. Unlike the last time, no one framed her. And this time she also has a small child who needs her. She didn't think of a situation like this when she decided to put herself in jail for murder? She never thought that in the 30-40 years she'd be inside, something might happen to her daughter? It's just stupid.
And I'm sorry writers-- turning jailbait girl into Alvaro's daughter, doesn't make me care any more about her. In my eyes, her only useful purpose would have been getting Alfie thrown in jail for statutory rape. But he's dead, and that storyline went nowhere, so I don't care.
The only thing we learned in this episode is why we have been subjected to scenes with that young girl. For all of the bad editing with this show, this whole story line of Alvaro and his family could have been cut. It offers nothing to the story.
Why Tav can't just tell Doris to jump in the ocean, I don't know. He is a serial husband. Must always be married, even if I don't love the girl. And don't pilots make decent money? He can't afford day care of the two kids? Why marry Doris if it isn't to take care of the kids?
The only positive thing last night was that I didn't have to sit through Esther crying.
When I saw our ratty friends I kept hearing the theme song from "Willard". Those of a certain age will know what I am talking about. :)

Fantastic recap and loved all your little asides ; )
MC has been a wilting flower now for awhile. Maybe this lie about Lupita will finally wake her up. She did all of this just thinking of Tav, without one thought for Lupita except Tav would always take care of Lupita.
If Tav marries Doris, there go the kids. I hated her eye roll when she turned her back on Tav and the kids. She so doesn't want them around.
I'm glad that Tasha told Juan Jose what Anibal confessed to her, now what will they do with this information? I hope they do something to help MC.
I don't know why they are adding Elsa to this storyline either. It's kind of late in the game for this storyline, even if she is Alvaro's daughter. Elsa is like a Doris in waiting.
I am slugging this out till it ends. I want to see how they wrap up this hawt mess.
How long will it take India Maria to get to Mexico City on her burro?
I turned on a few times last night waiting for the Cavs game to start and was so happy to see one of our little Rat Pack gang once again gainfully employed. They didn't give him much to do, but these writers don't know what to do with any of the characters.
I'm lost on the whole Alvaro family saga. And the purpose for this is???????
Did not pay attention to one word prattling out of Doris mouth in the apt. scene. Tav (Daniel) and those kids were beyond adorable. Bet he wished he could have just gotten on the floor and played pickup trucks instead of spout the usual dribble he is given.

Y LE ASEGURO UNA COSA, SI ELLA SE CASA CONMIGO, SE LO ASEGURO, VA A SER COMO UNA HIJA PARA MÍ, LA PRIMERA, LA MAYOR.
How it is possible if he already has a daughter????
As I know, Goyri wanted a bigger role here then he had. That is why Romero added his story with Elsa. It looks like a spin-off, but who cares?

I can't believe a word of this story anymore and I'm just coasting until the end. I personally would wrap it up by having the leads wake up in their beds and realize that this whole story was a nightmare.
Just let him figure things out for himself (which we know is never a good idea).
I also have no sympathy for MC and her situation. Even after learning that Tav didn't kill Al, she still turned down any lawyer. As Carlos says, NEXT!
What will happen that will finally change MC's mind about Octavio? As the Gringo says, WHO CARES?
It's been a pleasure getting to give my take on things every couple of weeks or so. What a pity the show started out so strong and then had to peter out like this, from the proverbial shout to whimper.
So Doris got her knickers in a twist---aren't they always?
Tofie---good idea but I'm not buying it.
Carvivlie---Where is the fierce fighter gone? I believe that the fierce fighter will be back. Have faith.
Madelaine said that maybe this lie about Lupita will wake Mari up
Yes, it definitely might do that.
Where is India Maria going to keep her burro when she gets to the big city? Park him buy the freeway?
Doris just makes me sick---Carlos can have her.
the gringo
The rat (was there more than one) looked fat and sassy. Certainly a much more pleasant roommate than Carola.
Alvaro's pouty petulant daughter... why?
The kids were delightful and appeared unmedicated. What cuties.
As for the final episode, I'm still holding out hope for the Rapture or an emergency soccer game. I've stocked up on Tequila just in case.

So, let me get this straight: back in the glory days of CI (Isla Dorada, that I didn't like, but compared to what we get now, was a masterpiece of excellent television) Doris "loved" Tav because he was a young, handsome pilot.
BUT, what is his appeal now, when he has two kids in his care, a nephew and the daughter of the woman she despises? It can't be his studness, because I've never seen him showing her any kind of affection.
Not much to comment on the rest of the show... Different day, same mess.
I'm mentally preparing for my last recap, next week. I think I'll put aside the tequila and celebrate with a bottle of champagne.
Whoever said endings are always bitter sweet, obvioulsy hadn't considered CI.
