Lo Que La Vida Me Robo #14- 12/6/13: Si Voy A Perderte

Ahoy, Amigis. I have my knickers in a twist over this Capitulo and for your daily earworm I give you this for your listening pleasure ; )
Si Voy a Perderte.

We start this Capitulo with Monse and JL hugging tearfully on the beach with Monse saying that JL is hers.

One of the workers at the Ale's hacienda tells Gaspar there are some horses missing, and could they have been sold? No, the money isn't there. Gaspar will be talking to Juvie about this.

Won't You Be My Midnight Runaway:
JL wants to know how Monse could be marrying another guy. Monse tearfully tells JL they made her and as a matter of fact HE (Ale) probably planned the whole thing. JL wants her to run away with him, but, but, she tells him she just got married! Please! He just wants her to run away with him. But, But, she can't, her Daddy is so ill. JL doesn't give no never mind to that! But, But, she can't leave dressed in her wedding gown. His friend can take care of that, get her clothes, etc. Doesn't matter he says. JL tells her that if she doesn't run away with him right then, her family will never let her go. Nothing and noone is going to seperate her from her JL. As a matter of fact, meet her in the Plaza in one hour. She'll be there with bells on, not that, but ya know. Vic, ever the gentleman, takes a video of this whole encounter and turns his face away. He even aims the cell phone correctly, go figure.

For The Love Of Money:
Gaspar has come to see his bubby about those missing horses. Juvie claims he knew about the missing thoroughbreds and tried to tell him about them. Is Gaspar buying his crap? Course not! As a matter of fact, he's going to Agua Azul to have a little meet with Ale. Oh, noes from Juvie. Juvie wants to know, so what if he sold those thoroughbreds, does he have the proof? No but their Papa used to dish out punishment and now it's time for Juvie's and Gaspar takes his quirt and beats Juvie on the back with it, shades of LQNPA here. Juvie doesn't make a sound. Juvie even asks him if he's done yet! Juvie and Gaspar go at it with words this time. Juvie is sick of Gaspar and his morals and Gaspar is sick of Juvie's taking stuff he shouldn't. Gaspar reminds him he is the Captaz of this hacienda and Juvie is nothing. As a matter of fact, he tells Juvie to be gone by the time he gets back from Agua Azul y punto. Gaspar goes.

The Wedding Bell Blues:
Vic has come to tell Ale he has something important to tell him, while here comes Monse, back from her meet at the beach. She hugs her Daddy the Admiral and tells him never forget how much I love you, while Ale is smiling from afar. Hold that image. Ale goes up and asks where she's been, oh, nowhere, she is going to her room to change her clothes. He smiles happily as she walks off.

Vic again tells Ale he needs to speak with him and Nadia is following Monse cause she too would like a word. Off they all go.

Murder By Numbers, One and Two:
Gaspar is on his way to Agua Azul in his truck, when he stopped by armed men. Gaspar tells them they can have the truck, no need for violence. We see a big a$$ pair of cowboy boots approach Gaspar and the man is wearing a ski mask, but we all know who it is, don't we? The man in the mask raises the gun and shoots Gaspar in the heart. As Gaspar falls to his knees, the man takes the ski mask off and we see it is Juvie just like we thought. Gaspar can't beleive his own brother shot him. Juvie, still wearing that gaudy ring, goes up to Gaspar and rips the medallion off his chest. Gaspar is still alive as he falls to the ground and Juvie delivers the coup de gras that kills Gaspar. Juvie's henchies take care of the truck.

Esme's Place:
JL comes in and yells for Refugio. He tells him he talked to Monse, pack up, leaving in an hour. Refugio can't beleive it. JL has to find a car, but meet him in the Plaza in an hour. He hands Refugio the keys to Esme's place and goes. Esme has heard all this and is happy to know "Renato's" real name is Refugio, she likes it. He is her shelter and she loves the name. He tells her he's leaving in an hour. She starts to cry and tells him she's in love with him, for realz! He's flabbergasted I tell you! He also has feelings for her and now she wants to go with him. He can't let her, but, but, she has no ties to anyone or anything in Agua Azul. She thinks there's another woman. Nothing like that Refugio tells her. They are fugitives and his friend is accused of murder, but he's innocent. Refugio tells her he killed someone. Esme is shocked! Refugio reinterates he is a murderer, too cowardly to turn himself in. He doesn't want to spend the rest of his life in la carcel (The Jail). He has nothing to offer her but constant running from the law. She gets it, many men have passed through her life, but Refugio is very special! Refugio tells Esme he is leaving now, as she sits and cries. She hugs him and begs him not to leave her. He thanks her for all she has done for him and JL. He tells her to forget him. One big kiss and he's off while she is saying, no, no.

You Dropped The Bomb On Me:
Ale wants to know what is so important that Vic had to talk to him. Well, he tells Ale that Monse is cheating on him, she's planning to run away in an hour, and if he doesn't beleive it, take a gander at this handy, dandy video he took with is celly. Well, Ale takes the celly, looks at the video and does an imperfect imitation of Sergio Sendel and throws that celly against the wall. He wants to know where and when this is supposed to happen. Vic tells him in an hour, the thinks she meets this dude in the Plaza in Agua Azul.

Got A Secret, Can You Keep It, Swear This One You'll Save:
Nadia and Monse are in Monse's room and Monse tells Nadia about her plans to go with JL. Nadia thinks she's crazy, what will people think? Monse could care less and she ain't eva coming back. Here comes a raging Ale, who wants to know where in the hell she thinks she's going? Nadia does a swift exit out of the room. She tries to lie and say nowhere, but he knows she is going to meet that lova of hers. She admits it. She even mentions JL by name, and she won't be a ho for Ale. He finally gets that JL is the guy she was meeting that night on the beach, when she mistakenly hugged Ale. Well she can't go, cause she's married to him. Monse says yeah, you had to buy me, but you'll never win my heart. He tells her to shut it! She says she'll make sure he gets the money back he loaned to her family. He really believes she isn't innocent like he thought, she has a puzzled look on her face, she gets up and he goes to touch her. She tells him not to come near her and he shoves her. Well, so sorry but now Monse is his wife, and she ain't going nowhere even though he had to buy her. Ale tells her to get ready, cause in five minutes they are leaving the Mendoza's place to go to his hacienda y punto. He stalks out of the room.

I Can Feel It Coming in the Air Tonight, Oh, Lord:
Maria is still having some feelings, premonitions, but not for the right person. She tells this to Dominga. In walks the lying killer that lies along with the Padre. Both Dominga and Maria want to know what the hey is going on? Juvie tells Maria her Papa was assaulted and can't finish, so Padre takes up the riens and says that Gaspar esta muerto (Gaspar is dead). Let the wailing and nashing of teeth begin. Maria weeps in Juvie's arms. Juvie says those so and soes killed my brotha, don't get me started!

Time To Say Goodbye:
Ale is in a tither, to put it mildly and is asking after the Admiral, Gracie tells him he's resting. Vic is lurking around and Ale goes to him and tells him to pack up everything, first thing in the morning they are returning to the hacienda y punto! Alone, Vic asks? No, with the wifey pooh too of course. Vic can't beleive it! Ale swears she will not make a fool of him again, she's going. Vic is still lurking, and Gracie tells Ale what a wonderful wedding it was. He doesn't care bout that, he's going with Monse. He gets in Gracie's face and she tells him to calm down. He is so not calming down. He sends Manuela off to make sure that Monse is getting ready. He tells Gracie that she cheated him and lied to him. He uses the same phrase that Monse accused her Mother of the Capitulo before: "Su hija es igual o peor que ella", in other words, Monse is the same if not worse than Gracie!

She Must Confess or Give Up The Chisme:
While Pedro is making nice with Capitan Robledo and his wife, Nadia comes and tells him, she must confess, er, speak to him urgently. He says can't you see I'm busy, what a great husband, no? She has to beg him to go off and talk with her. The Capitan tells him it's okay go off and talk to your wife, por favor! Did you catch the look on The Capitan and his wife's faces, like the poor dear! Anyhoo, she asks about JL, what is he wanted for, why are the police involved. Pedro tells her that he murdered Bruno Gamboa, he was in jail, but managed to escape. He's a murderer by gum and if he's contacted Monse he needs to know. Nadia spills all about Monse going to meet JL in the Plaza and she wants to stop Monse from making the biggest mistake of her life. Pedro tells her no worries, he'll handle it, handle it! He walks off and calls his buddy Loreto (we finally have a name) the Police Chief of Agua Azul. He informs Loreto about JL being in the Plaza, take care of it and no mistakes, understood?

On The Run:
JL and Refugio are near the Plaza waiting for Monse, who hasn't shown up yet, I wonder why????? JL is going to go get her cause his radar seems to be working, saying her family probably prevented her from leaving. He's going and Refugio tries to stop him. JL goes and tells Refugio to stay right there.

Are You Happy Now:
Gracie is such a fake and a lying liar that lies. She comes in and tells Monse, she doesn't know what's up but Ale is impatiently, er, waiting for her. Monse is dressed all in black now with her tiara still on her head. She doesn't wanna go with Ale. Too bad,  Gracie tells her, Ale is her husband now, she's gotta go. Monse tells her thanks to Gracie she is the most unhappy woman on Earth, are you happy now? Gracie of course, blames all of this on Monse. Monse yells at her and tells her she abandoned JL all for the big fat lie that Gracie and Ale came up with. Gracie basically tells her to get over it, make sure she takes everything and go down and say bye to her Papa. Monse says she is leaving her dignity behind but Gracie wouldn't know what that is of course. Gracie says forgive me, you aren't leaving behind anything you need, now go downstairs and say bye to the family they are waiting. She's worse than Cruella De Ville, I must say. She grabs Monse's face and tells her, her hubby is waiting. With that Cruella de Ville departs as Monse cries.

Time For Me To Fly:
The whole Mendoza family is assembled at the bottom of the stairs to say goodbye to Monse. Monse hugs Lottie first who tells her to be happy. Next is her blackhearted, souless Mama who tells her she wanted so much for her, Monse hugs her and tells her she'll make sure Ale never gives Gracie another dime, count on it! Gracie even force kisses her cheek. Where is the cast iron skillet???? She next hugs her Papa, tells him she loves him muchly and he'll miss her. Ale is starting to get on my last nerve! He is urging her to Let's Go already! Monse even hugs Dimmy, while Ale is saying Let's Go. I want to stick a sock in his mouth, and she hugs Lottie one last time and also hugs Manuela and off they go. The Admiral is wanting to know what the heck happened? Monse is sooo sad. Well it's cause she is leaving home, going on her honeymoon, all normal things. Yeah, right! Lottie distracts him and tells him time for bed and your meds, while Dimmy is smirking. Off the Admiral goes.

Refugio is Busted Or is He?
The cops, with sirens blaring go to the Plaza. Loreto tells his guy, and did you notice who this guy is? His name is Ezequiel by the way, he played the Doc in the Abismo de Pasion,  the name of the fugitives they are looking for, Alvarez and Solares. They are young. Understood, Si Senor! They fan out to look for them. Ezequiel notices Refugio skulking around the corner right away. He wants Refugio to show some I.D. well Refugio left it at home, well he'll have to go with Ezqueil then and guess who sashays up about this time? That's right it's Esme saying she hasn't seen Ezequiel in a while, they miss him at the strip joint. He hasn't got time for chit chat he's busy and Esme asks why Ez stopped her "cousin". Ez can't believe this guy is her cousin. His name is Renato Garcia for his inquiring mind. Well he wants this "cousin" of hers to come to headquarters with an I.D. and Esme asks if he is sure 'bout that as she hands him a cash money bribe! Does he take it? While she smiles with a come hither smile, Ez lets them go. Weeee!

Dimmy Wants the Chisme:
He noticed that something was wrong with Monse and he wants to know what the hell was that? He tells his black hearted Mama he isn't a fool, so waz up???? She tells him to shut it. Everything is fine, just fine! In other words, don't ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies. In the midst of this there is mad banging on the door. It's JL of course, looking for HIS Monse. Gracie opens the door and can't believe he'd dare come there. His Avacadoes are just a day late and ahem a dollar short. He is yelling for Monse and Gracie tells him to pipe down already! Dimmy even comes to the door too and sticks his face in JL's. Wow, what a combo. A Dimwit and his Mama! Dimmy just has to tell him Monse just got married, went off with the hubby, she ain't there y punto! Dimmy blocks the doorway as JL is yelling for Monse again. Dimmy now really yells at him saying she married the man she loves, she's gone, accept it already. JL and his Avacadoes aren't listening. JL says he's taking Monse and that's that, away from her family. He is yelling and spitting in Dimmy's face and says this family is disgusting and that Gracie is a witch or b*tch take your pick. Gracie tells him to, say it with me Viewerville, LARGATE MI CASA (Leave My House)! So JL goes and Dimmy wants to know why Gracie didn't tell him what was going on.

Hush, Hush, Voices Carry:
This is the part that got my knickers in a twist. I'm highly pithed, but bear with me. Ale is dragging Monse into his bedroom at his Town House. Monse tells him he's hurting her, does he listen, course not! He flings her into the room and tells her to Shut It! He flings her bag into the room and she wants to know where the rest of her bags are. He says don't matter, at sunrise they are leaving for the hacienda. As he goes into the bathroom she picks up the cordless phone to call someone. She holds up her hands in defense as he grabs that cordless phone and flings it and pulls the cord out of the wall. He thinks she is calling her lova. That's not gonna happen. She moves past him and sits in the chair. She says if he wants she'll sleep in there. He wants Jose Luis' last name. She won't give it, she swears she doesn't know it. He leaves and she scurries to the phone again, sees it's broken and runs to the bathroom. She's looking and sees a celly plugged in. She picks it up like a lifeline and starts punching in numbers. She's called Nadia and she wants Nadia to help her, let JL know where she is, as she gives directions, Ale walks in, grabs that cell phone and flings it and grabs her next. She tells him he's hurting her. Does he listen? He drags her by the arm, and flings her on the bed and tells her, she is done making a fool of him. She begs him to go and leave her alone. He grabs her once again and tells her, it's the wedding night, she's in his house, she's his wife and goes in for a kiss. She ought to kick him in the Avacadoes, jus' sayin'. She calls him cray, cray, thanks SusanLynn! She's his wife! Understand! She tells him that that's fine, if he wants to force her, oh, hell no! She wouldn't expect less from an animal after all. She grabs his hand and strokes her face with it and tells him she wants him to know everytime he kisses her, or caresses her, or makes love to her, she'll be thinking of JL, oh, hell no she didn't!!! They are both DEAD TO ME! I can't take it! They are both so deluded due to one HUGE BIG FAT LIE. He is DEAD TO ME, due to the flinging around, hurting her, and she's DEAD TO ME, for rubbing this JL thingy in his face. He tells her to SHUT IT and she tells him she only loves JL with all her heart. As far as Ale goes, well, as she looks him up and down, she says he makes her want to hurl! She even smirks and he goes out with a broken heart. She quickly locks the door behind him and puts a chair against the door. Monse sits on the bed, what to do, what to do? Meanwhile Ale is in another room, downing a tequila and it's a big glass, he hurls the bottle and the glass to the floor and has a wailing and nashing of the teeth moment. He is in enormous pain and yells and cries.

Hacienda Kitchen:
Maria is sitting in the kitchen, sobbing her eyes out. The Padre comes to give comfort. The only thing she's concerned with right now is if Ale knows what happened to her Papa. Padre tells her nah, not so much. Neither Ale or Vic are answering their cell phones. Well, we know what happened to them, don't we ; ) She can't beleive Ale hasn't come back, especially now that her Papa is dead. Padre thinks maybe in the morning. Well, Maria isn't having it. Her Papa will be buried in the morning. Padre wants her to wait, until he can get in touch with Ale. Well, Maria ain't waiting and the murderer casually walks in the room and of course agrees with his neice. Consciense bothering you there Juvie. I hope Gaspar comes back and haunts your lying butt. Padre has to concede.

The funeral commences the next day. The mourners are some guys from the hacienda, Juvie the lying liar murderer with a sobbing Maria in his arms, and Dominga. Juvie has the nerve, I tell you the nerve to cry as he tosses  some earth into the grave. May lightening strike him, it's raining, where's the lightening???? Oh, and the putz is actually wearing Gaspar's medal, anyone notice that????? Nah, not so much.

The Drive From Hell:
Our DEAD TO ME couple are on their way to Ale's hacienda. Ale seems concerned cause Monse hasn't eaten. She isn't hungry of course. He tells her she is perfect for a poor man, she's so cheap. See why they are DEAD TO ME!!!! Well she's got news for him, he forced her to marry him, what about that, Hmmmmmm..............

He starts the truck up and off they go. This ride from hell ends and they are finally at the hacienda. Juvie of course is right there to greet them and tells Ale he wasn't expected. Juvie gets the "lazy guys" to get the suitcases. Ale opens the door for Monse and Juvie notices her. Ale asks if things are okay. Juvie tells him no. He tells him Gaspar is dead, and Monse has got her fan and her hat and is looking around as the two men chat. Juvie tells him they just buried Gaspar this morning. He tells Ale that Gaspar was on his way to Agua Azul with some papers for Ale, he was attacked by robbers and they killed Gaspar and stole the truck. Ale asks after Maria and speak of the Sour Girl, here she comes just a runnin' into Ale's arms. Monse turns and notices this. She takes her moue stance, as Maria doesn't notice anything but Ale and being in his arms. He tells her he didn't know about her Papa and he's very sorry. She lets Ale know how mad she was at him for not coming back. Monse continues to be a looky loo and you can see she knows what's up with Maria. Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge! Maria keeps hugging Ale cause she's so happy he's back now, but Ale sets her aside and introduces her to his wife Monse, as Juvie looks at Monse likes she's a ripe peach and Maria says you got married???? Cara de impacada de  Maria. End of Epi!

Avances:

Maria runs off.

JL stakes out Ale's hacienda.

Ale joins Monse in the shower, or does he? Tune in Este Lunes and Ms Gloria will tell you all about it, MUST SEE TV!

Good Afternoon Y'all:

I really had my knickers in a twist over this Capitulo, but am working on the recap. Please comment away.

Hello Madelaine!

Cannot wait to read your recap.

This was a(nother) very sad and depressing episode. Disappointing, childish and churlish behavior from our main couple (along with most of the characters), accompanied by a heinous murder and much mayhem.

I know you will make sense of all of this so will wait to comment. I need your expertise as I could not gleen from the conversation why Juvie was banished from the hacienda and what exactly precipitated what occurred next.

Oh dear, fratricide so early on! I figured Juvie for a bad'un but to kill his own brother? Now that was a very telling scene when Gaspar whipped Juvie. Made me wonder how their dear old dad use to mete out the punishment and his relationship with the two sons. Any shrink-types out there care to discuss? I would love to hear about it. I'm not sure why Juvie felt he had to whip off his balaclava, it was very obvious who held the gun.

OK, I am liking Refugio and Esmeralda. I know the situation is hopeless for those two crazy kids, but I want them to come out of it all. Refugio is lucky he's hooked up with someone who obviously has much better survival instincts than he has.

Great start Mads! I look forward to your take on the rest of this action-packed episode because it kind of put my knickers in a twist, too. Thank you for the earworm. I love that song.

Oh my Gosh! Madeline, thank you, I will read the recap later. I just had to react to just the first 10 minutes of the episode! Juventino killed Gaspar! Oh my the anvil can't come soon enough for him. What a lowly "life" form he is. And, of course, Victor's outing of Montse. Both Montse and Ale's friends came with critical evidence that started this explosion and oh boy, what beautiful fury SR portrays! Also, like many of you I don't feel the love between JL and Montse. I guess a really top-line galan wouldn't want to play the loser but what if JL was played by a real smokin' hot hunk that showed more courage for winning Montse? Finally, Victor's use of a cell phone to show Ale the evidence probably saved 10 episodes. Thank you Madeline! Back to the show!

Oh, and cell phone smashage and it was not by Sergio Sendel! I was shocked, shocked I tell you that it was Alejandro who destroyed phones. He's a smasher and a thrower, that one.

Luis Roberto Guzman isn't galan material; that is both the explanation and the problem. If he were we'd see a dilemma here for Monserrat. He doesn't have the look or the manner of one. He plays a great villain (e.g., Diego in Alborada) but doesn't have the swoonworthy face of a proper alpha male. In fact, all through this he looks like he needs a shave, which is unacceptable by Navy standards in any country.

While Sebastian Rulli looks good in a beard, I wish they'd style it better. I'm also wondering why he wasn't dressed more formally for the wedding, as in a Pearl-Grey Morning Coat.

BTW, for she who asked about Alejandro Fernandez, click here for a backstage photo from 2004.

hi all. YIKES What an episode ! Technology has changed this novela . In AR, the lovers met in the garden , and the galan's best friend eavesdropped and ran to his friend with the news How awful actually seeing it on a cellphone...yikes. . As in this episode, the galan confronted the leading lady in her bedroom as she was planning to change and run away with her first love. However, instead of just throwing her around, he slapped her so hard across the face that she fell to the floor. Then, he confronted the mother in private about selling him "damaged goods" ( even though in reality Matilde was still a virgin). Instead of staying in town at his house there, he was so furious that he put Matilde in a coach and they immediately started out for his hacienda far away from her family. That night, they stopped at an inn, and Matilde wanted separate rooms which he got. Then, he had second thoughts and stormed into her room to take his marital rights. From that point on, the heroine showed him her anger and contempt. Like here, the housekeeper was shocked to learn that her boss had married. Her father was killed by the evil hacienda worker, but he was not her uncle ,and I can't remember when he was killed.

I love AR , but I never forgave the galan for physically abusing the woman he supposedly loved.

I do not like seeing SR like this...very scary and nongalanish. Also, I do not like the way MonserRANT is playing this. It is hard to imagine happily ever after when two people are acting like this towards each other.

Looking forward to your recap, Mads.

May I suggest that the lovely Marcelo Cordoba would have been wellcast as the firstlove. Now, that guy would get my support and sympathy....probably moreso than the galan.

Susanlynn, yes! I agree that Marcelo Cordoba would have been a better choice. I was thinking Valentino Lanus but now that you mention it I think MC would have been best.

I don't feel JL's love for Monserrat, but I really felt Monse's love and heartbreak in her scenes with him this time. Thought the actress, whom I don't particularly cared for, really did a good job.

Awful episode. Painful. Depressing. Don't know if I can bear months and months of Juventino's evil. (I'm a wuss, as always.) But glad Alejandro didn't take her by force in his anger, as did the conflicted galan in Amor Real.

What an episode! I don't know how I'm going to stand to watch this show one episode at a time, it is fast becoming one of my favorite tns.

The fights between Ale and Montse are ugly to watch, but so beautifully acted - it really shows that the actors have a lot of experience working together.

RIP Gaspar, but I was a little annoyed with the scene, because I wanted to be back in Agua Azul.

Sylvia, it looks like Sergio Sendel is into smoking a pipe in this one; maybe he'll start throwing that around when the going gets tough for him.

Urban, Guzman is the worst as a galan. What's up with all the sweating? It's very distracting and yucky! And that stubble - NO NO NO - he just looks dirty.

Susanlynn, thank you for reminding me the details from AR; it helps us better compare - I do believe they are taking the effort to tone down the hero's violence, because one of the only critiques AR ever had was about the way Manuel treated Matilde at the beginning of their marriage.
Here, at least we know that Montse is not a virgin anymore, which I believe will only make Ale's despecho bigger when he realizes it for himself, whenever that might be.

yeah...My dad smoked a pipe, but who smokes a pipe these days ....odd. I wonder why Pedro is so hot to capture JL and Refugio and why he married sweet , young Nadia if he has no interest in her. Is she just A trophy wife ? In AR, the Nadia character (Pilar) was married to the police chief, but he was a fat, older guy who enjoyed his marital rights even though she didn't. They had a little boy.

Okay, Y'all the entire recap is up now. I've still got my knickers in twist. Please excuse the rants. I will be nicer next capitulo, pinky promise : )

Adriana, as much as I loved AR, I did not respect the galan and always felt that I could never consider him a hero because of his violent temper tantrums. Up until last night, Ale has been so mild mannered even when dealing with despicable DIMneedsaTRIMIO and Graci. Who would have suspected that he had that bad temper hiding just below the surface ? Yikes. I always have trouble with characters who want to be with people who don't want them. I can never understand that. Why would you want to be with someone who cannot return your love?

Thanks for the awesome full recap Mads.

"She takes her moue stance" sums up Angelique Boyer perfectly. I also liked the "but, buts".

Susanlynn, it will indeed take Monse and Ale a looooooong journey to get over all the loathing they currently show for each other. It's hard to imagine in real life getting past that, even if it is a misunderstanding. That's why we have to wear our beanies.

Juvie is gathering an interesting collection of jewelry. Ring from a dead man, medallion (choker?) from the brother he killed; I'm thinking of it as the Carnage Collection, Bloodshed Baubles, whatever.

Oh, and forgive my potty-mouth, but every time I see "Pedro" I think "Pendejo".

Mads, Thanks for the great recap and all those tunes. I now have the you-dropped-the-bomb-on-me exploding in my brain.

I hate the way Gracie squeezed Money's teeny, tiny little face. Did you notice the way Gracie always held her chiffon shawl over her front. I wonder if she is pregnant ?

I loved Esme's rescue of Refugio. It is nice to see the girl getting to be the hero for a change. She is a pragmatic, clever girl with street smarts. Go, Esme.

Susanlynn- DC just had a baby at the beginning of the year. Maybe she hasn't dropped the baby weight yet and that's what she's hiding.

I'm still in the middle of watching the episode. Be back later when I've watched and read.

Madelaine, I just read the rest of your recap - loved your descriptions of all the fighting but I have to say that I don't mind it too much (I'm twisted like that). Aside from the manhandling, they both give as good as they get Ale does love her, after all, he's not in full on hate mode.

For me the best parts in their relationship are the little details: like the fact that Montse needs her facial creams for the night and Ale, raging mad as he is, says he'll go grab them - that's when she tries to use the phone in the bathroom.
Also, when they arrive at the ranch, Montse is wearing that tight dress and a fancy hat when so far we've only seen her in flowery, colorful outfits? Is she really trying to piss him off or the writers are trying to highlight how she's not used to ranches?
Would she enjoy being on the run with Jose Luis more???

I'm sure the fights will continue and things we'll get worse before they get better.

I always hate to see guys manhandling women. Bleeccchhh. I am married to a big guy who is very gentle, and I cannot stand watching guys mistreating woman. Ugh. Real men ALWAYS treat women with respect.

"Takes the moue stance". What a perfect description. You conveyed so much with so few words, Madelaine. Well done.

I'm distracting myself from the horrid events last night by inwardly kvetching about the unbelievably roomy, ultra decorated casa of Esmerelda. I doubt the ordinary bar girl can afford such a big place on her salary. It's altogether wrong, IMO.

On our protagonists' awful behavior. When people are betrayed, by those they're closest to (family) or those they love the most, their reaction is understandably violent, ugly, hard to watch, listen to or endure. For anybody. They're in the "old brain", the savage survival part of the brain and it ain't pretty. This is when perfectly nice people are capable of killing.

Great recap, Mads! I wasn't as bothered by the fight as you were. SR and AB had lots of practice from Teresa and are very good at the fight scenes with each other-- there is a comfort level there. Both Monse and Ale have had their minds twisted by vile lies, and they are both mad as hell. I'm glad Monse gave as good as she got. Ale had the physical advantage, but Monse's words were far more sharp and hurtful. I'm glad that the writers did not go for the rape, as I know were in the previous versions.

Yay, Esme! Those two dimwits (not to be mistaken for the other two Dimwits- Dim and Adolfo) need someone with brains and wit like her by their side.

Madelaine: Powerful, poignant, detailed yet interlaced with exceptional humor. "Murder By Numbers, One and Two","Ale takes the celly, looks at the video and does an imperfect imitation of Sergio Sendel and throws that celly against the wall" and "His Avacadoes are just a day late and ahem a dollar short" were top notch.

Although I only saw pieces of AR, I did see the aftermath of Colunga finding out Adela had met her love. It was disturbing then, and now. I never forgot it either Susanlynn, and it was hard to really accept him as a true galan. I assumed Ale would have a similar reaction and was disappointed I was unfortunately, correct. Unabated fury and physical manhandling were in evidence. Monse was wrong to throw JL in Ale's face but she honestly believes he "bought" her and she sees her chance for true love is now gone forever.

Thought Gaspar's murder to be one of the most brutal, cold hearted in some time. May he rest in peace, in tranquil surroundings where his brother will never trod.

Sylvia: "Carnage Collection, Bloodshed Baubles, whatever..." Inspired! Thanks, we needed that...

I must admit that I'm sitting alone, closer to JL's table than Ale's. I had been inching toward Ale's but last night pushed me away. Abusive behavior, mental and physical, cannot be tolerated. I did mention yesterday that I am far more sympathetic to the JL character than most (all?),and frankly like the actor's interpretation of the role. I feel JL has more of an emotional connection to Monse and Ale has more of a physical chemistry with her. Liked your point about the casting Lila.

Glad we all view things a bit differently - it keeps everything interesting!

Excellent comments. What a wonderful group.

Madelaine, marvelous job as always. Thank you!

Diana

Vivi, your take on the fight between Ale and Montse... it's like you read my mind and paraphrased it (check out my second comment);
I know there is more of that coming - not a spoiler, but it's obvious they won't solve this issue in a day or two.

Alejandro/SR broke three phones in one episode. Is that a record?

Adriana- We are totally tracking. :) I also thought it was funny that in the midst of the fight, she asked for her makeup bag, and he went to get it. LOL!

Vivi, I expect to see more than one of those quirky scenes like Monse asking Ale to get her makeup bag and him getting it, then she going from intensely pithed off one minute to making jealous goggle eyes at Maria the next. Good casting of AB and SR for this, they have had lots of practice and play well off each other, as you noted.

JudyB, "Old Brain", huh? I guess that is why the police always look at a murder victim's spouse or close relatives first, eh? I wish the telenovela police would do that for Gaspar. I also had to giggle at your statement re: Esme's house. I wondered the same thing, especially with two more mouths to feed.

Diana, I think I am always trying to think up silly names to remind myself THIS IS NOT REAL. Just like Mads loves to give herself and us earworms.

BTW, my fave earworms from this recap were Murder By Numbers and You Dropped the Bomb on Me. By fave I mean most effective.

Madelaine: This is a great recap. Thanks. Montse also took note of Ale's hacienda. But, then she did vow to ruin him down to the last penny. She could have been taking a mental inventory of the property.

Likewise - I didn't like the scenes where Ale throws Montse around. That wouldn't help get any sense into her head anyway.

Thanks, Madeline. I thought this episode was exciting and I ain't mad at either Ale or Montse. When they get around to lovin' each other, it's going to be HOT. Now, unlike many of you I haven't seen the novelas this one was based on, have on seen SR in only one other show and never seen AB so this is all fresh to me. The intense anger of them both seems reasonable to me and I'm not bothered by his flinging her around. I'm glad he didn't forcefully take his "marital rights" and hope he doesn't. I'm eager to see how she is going to fall out of love with JL and into love with Ale. Seems JL would have to die, she's so into him. Thanks again, Madeline. Now to comments.

Maybe Money asked for that makeup bag to get Ale out of the room so that she could figure out how to get her hands on a phone or escape.

Susanlynn- I'm sure that's why she did it. It's just funny that she chose that heated moment to do it, and that he actually complied! LOL!

Nice discussion! Agree Diana, love the variety of viewpoint: glad I'm not the only one who wasn't bothered by Ale and Montse's fight. I just hope they will keep giving us little seeds of love like her eyebrow raise at the embrace between Maria and Ale but I also noticed she had a fleeting look of being touched by his expression of sympathy to (the lying, lowdown) Juvie when he told Ale about Gaspar's "death." Also, Madeline, the confused look Montse gave when they were fighting in her bedroom was after she revealed that she knew he had paid her family's bills and he then accused her of being a part of Gracie's whole scheme. "And here I thought you were so innocent." referring more to her trampa more than being a tramp. I think this surprised her and cut into her contempt and wrath for a minute. I'm likin' this.

Madelaine - Excellent recap. You captured all the fury and gave me the details I missed.

Add me to the folks who like the fact that Montse gave it right back to Ale in their argument. Vivi, I too got flashbacks to AB and SR mixing it up in "Teresa."

Juventino can't meet his maker soon enough. Yuck. Why do the haciendas always have a pervert on the premises? Why has no one noticed this man's growing jewelry collection?

Susanlynn - I enjoy your sharing the "Amor Real" version after a scene plays out in LQLVMR. Thanks.

Diana - I am sympathetic to JL too. He may not be *the one* but he is Montse's first love - and managed to achieve this without help from anyone.

Here's the scene in Teresa where Arturo finds out that Teresa had been seeing another man, and that she just married him for his money. Similar to here, except Teresa really was a money-hungry schemer and cheater. SR and AB really mix it up in the beginning of the scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpxWIxTjRxc

I have noticed that tiny details are sometimes the same as in AR. For example, in AR Manuel stops along the way to the hacienda the day after the noche de boda and is upset that Matilde refuses to eat. However, in AR, she slaps him across the face when they are arguing and draws blood. I think that the physical violence between the two leads has been toned down a little in this new version.

Mads:

You did a great job with this recap. WHAT an episode! I totally understand why this capitulo had your knickers in a twist. I am WITH you, hermana.

Let's see, Sylvia, my friend, I'll take a bite at the Gaspar/Juvie poisoned apple. I would have to guess that the way the writers have put together this relationship we are supposed to believe that both men were liberally punished with whippings as children, and that Gaspar may have continued on with the beat-downs after their Daddy was out of the picture. There seemed to be a significant age difference between the men, as well. So maybe Gaspar had been beating Juvie for a very long time. Still, however it happened, corporal punishment alone does not turn a person into the people-stalking murderous predator that is now Juventino. The character makes me shudder. I so feel for his horses.

I did not love the confrontation between Montse and Ale. It went from hot-angry to venomous very quickly for Montserrat. Perhaps that is the only weapon Montserrat feels that she has. Cuidado, Montse, that kind of attitude envenomates the viper as well as her victim.

I know I need a beanie for this, but how is it that Alejandro thinks Montserrat is as bad as her Mother? Is he believing that swindling money, lying and manipulating (Gracie) is equal to lying and trying to do a man wrong on his wedding day (Montse)? There is something to despise in each of these sets of behavior but they are not the SAME.

I think part of the rage of the two characters is that each knows they have culpability in the situation. Their guilt makes them cling ever-harder to the shred of self-righteousness pride they still carry.

Also, Niecie and Diana, I must agree to disagree with you marvelous ladies on 'Jose Luis'. I have a problem with his CHARACTER. No, I don't mean the fellow he plays on TV, I mean his moral character. How could he want to drag Montserrat, his 'one true love', into a desperate on-the-run life likely to end with a Bonnie and Clyde type shoot-out? Once the Federales are onto the fugitives, could it end any other way? I see this as passionate, alright, but deluded and not truly loving at all. I think that I am simply too practical to grasp throwing it all away for love. Sadly, I do not have a romantic soul. You will not be surprised to learn that I was the only woman in my first college Shakespeare class who thought Romeo and Juliet might have shown a LEETLE restraint in their actions. (EJ smiles and bows to her friends.)

Thanks again, Mads, for a really great recap. You gave us so much to chat about.

I will be out tomorrow but hope to join back into the convo tomorrow evening.

Elna June

EJ- I believe Ale accused Monse of being as bad as her mom when he found out she knew about the "deal." In his mind it meant that she was willing to trade herself for money. Of course, as you point out, he has equal guilt in attempting to buy her in the first place. Guilt and anger entwined.

Dear Mads,

Thanks for a fantastic recap of a very dramatic and painful episode! I enjoyed the tone of the narrative and all the great and rich detail you managed to get in. You notice so much--for example one comment I particularly loved was how you noticed Victor looked away while he was taping Montse and J-L but still got the shot.

There was a lot of cruelty in this episode, but I thought all the actors--especially AB and SR--were very good. I found I felt for both of them even as they were both being awful to each other.

Thanks again, Mads. This was a first-rate recap, and I loved reading it.

Vivi:

ITA. Guilt/shame + anger is a toxic cocktail. Each of the two protagonists must feel shamed by being part of such a dirty transaction.

The wedding scene made me want to take a shower after recapping.

EJ

Elna June - Even though I'm sympathetic to JL trying to reclaim his ladylove, I do agree he hasn't thought through the practicality of them living on the run. They need time to sit together and think things through, but something tells me that will never happen.

Madelaine, thanks for your well done recap and for provoking a great discussion.

Elna June hit the nail on the head, I thought:
"I think part of the rage of the two characters is that each knows they have culpability in the situation. Their guilt makes them cling ever-harder to the shred of self-righteousness pride they still carry."

This setup is pure gothic novel--the arranged marriage, the bride under control of the groom, the conflict between them, the trip to the groom's isolated country home.

I'm not as worried about Ale's anger as I am Juventino, who now appears to be in charge. Remember he was attracted to Montse and will probably try to take advantage of her relatively helpless situation. As much as I loved this guy in Pasion, he's making me hate him here.

I'm loving this show and I love the comments even more.

La Paloma, I only remember Juvie in villain mode, so I think this part fits him like a glove. Now that he has Montse under his roof, I predict he'll get even more desgusting than before. God help us with all his day dreaming... if you know what I mean.

Elna June, JL thinking he can take pampered Montse with him on the run just shows how little he knows her. Sure, love is nice and all, but what will she do without her creams and the flowery dresses?
In my opinion, part of their great love comes from the fact that it's a forbidden affair - and I believe this is especially true for 19 years old Montse.

Diana, Lila, I didn't mind the fight because I know there will be plenty of that from now on, I better get used to it.

Sylvia, I expect some quirky scenes between the leads, too. And I also think Montse's city girl habits will shine through once they arrive at the ranch (even if Agua Azul is only a pueblo, after all).
I can't wait!

All three (Ale, Montse, and JL) have been betrayed and have a right to lash out, none of them are going about it the right way. Ale is being somewhat physically abusive; Montse is being verbally and emotionally abusive; and JL is acting stupidly and impulsively without thinking things through or of the possible consequences the love of his life may suffer by running with him (poverty and all the deprivations that goes with it; possible arrest as an accessory, etc). And yet, I enjoy watching SR and AB, I just get nothing from the JL actor ... not a thing.

Vivi...thanks for that scene from Teresa. There was another incredibly violent scene, that was well played by Rulli. Remember when he had her living in a vecindad apartment and came home drunk? The scene was well choreographed and Rulli should have won the acting award for it that year. Instead it went to Colunga.

At any rate, further proof that Boyer and Rulli are old hands at fight scenes and play them very well. He's not just a pretty face, and neither is she.

Yes, Judy. That scene in the vecinidad happens later, and that alone should have gotten Rulli the award. He was totally robbed by Colungna that year.

Great recap of a very pivotal but disturbing episode.

This is a Gothic setup, alright, but he would have to disable all the phones and deny her any access to money to keep her isolated. If she has a driver's license or any valuable jewelry he would also have to take those away.

We know Maria will be her enemy. Dominga might not.

I completely agree on JL's dimwittedness regarding what being on the run would mean. That might work if this were a period piece because there would be no photos or DNA to aid the search. In 1860 -- the period of the previous version -- one could just change one's name and go to the other coast of the country or head north, but those options are much more difficult now. To drag Monserrat through that to end up in prison or worse is most ill-conceived.

Are we sure that Alejandro expects Monserrat to be a virgin? That isn't realistic in modern-day Mexico.

I don't think the virginity thing is going to be an issue either.

Thanks Mads for your great recap! Loved your song title headers and your witty asides.

When Juventino took his brothers necklace, it reminded me of a serial killer who takes "trophies" from his victims. In the crime novels, that's often how the killer gets caught--let's hope it's true in Juvies case. Maybe he has a jewelry box or maybe he will shamelessly wear the necklace along with the ring.

I think another rough transition for this period piece into 2013 is the fact that Ale can essentially hold Montse prisoner. Just because they're married doesn't mean he's her lord and master. If she'd rather bail on the marriage and pursue JL, she should be free to do so. I'm having to ratchet down my beanie to think any strong willed young girl would go along with this just because the husband she hates tells her to.

But I'm loving this TN and can't WAIT to see how Montse acts at the Hacienda. She hasn't said a word so far--will she play it aloof and snobby or bitchy and shrewish? As you would say, Mads, must see tv!!

Thanks again!

We've only seen the first few hours of their "marriage", maybe Montse does try to leave him, or by teh time she gets the chance to do it, she won't want to anymore.

I have a strange faith that the writers will manage to make at least part of the story believable. Ale has already destroyed 3 phones and maybe the ranch doesn't have any wi-fi.
Sure, this still feel ludicrous, but as long as I have my beanie, I can roll with it.

Madeleine:

Fabulous recapping of one turbulent episodio!

"His Avacadoes are just a day late and ahem a dollar short." --Luhved that one!

"JL and his Avacadoes aren't listening." Darn tootin' he wasn't!! LOL! Nope, and it was a powerfully played scene, full to the brim with roiling emotional chaos, earsplitting, blood-boiling anger, revulsion, sexual frustration, exasperation and just downright pent up hatred ricocheting everywhere! It was intense and all three actors played it to perfection!!

The actors playing Juventino and Gaspar played off each other so well, too. The whipping scene, and Juvie acting like a cowed half-wit juxtaposed with the next of Juvie changing into this truly monsterous altar ego of self-assured capitaz of the gang of thieves during the road-block and Juventino's stare of silent triumph mixed with deep filial loathing while killing his brother made me think "Wow!"

"she's DEAD TO ME, for rubbing this JL thingy in his face" Manohman! Another fabulous scene and AB played it razor sharp! I cringed as much as Ale did! I truly felt that man's pain.

"May lightening strike him, it's raining, where's the lightening????" LOL!

"She takes her moue stance" --great descriptor!

==============

ITA that Mau Islas was a perfect alpha male to play the screwed over boyfriend type who gave Colunga's character a run for his money throughout, and ITA that LRG is, unfortunately, not a believable hunky type that can make Viewerville swoon all the way through--though yep, I did cringe and cry for the way he was cheated out of love and maltreated and maligned.

Someone else suggested that Marcelo Cordoba would have been a better choice to play JL and I agree completely.

We have an early fratricide by a sexual predator who is eyeing his sister-in-law, niece, and now the boss's wife. This deserves a very intense Karmageddon. I am guessing that at some point down the road Alejandro will have to rescue Monserrat from him.

Thanks for the recap Mads. Enjoyed your songs; I loved "You dropped the bomb on me!"

Our discussion has been very rich! Though I understand Monse believes JL is her first love, between the writing (he's not very bright and I'm realizing how unattractive that is to me personally) and the actor, its hard to support her in this (sorry Diana and Lila). If only JL had presented himself to the Admiral, then he may have someone else to vouch for his character. And now his plan to run away w/Monse, as EJ and UA have noted, is just ill conceived. Finally, I believe Marcelo Cordoba would have been a better choice for JL.

Adriana - ITA w/you on AB/SR and their nuances. When she paused after he accused her of being in on the sale, that was great. Though I wish his rage could be less physical with her as she's so small. I'm w/Susanlynn in that if becomes difficult to respect the galan when they cross over into abuse.

I know Juvie is evil but killing your brother and then the subsequent pretense is sickening. I worry for Monse.

Great Job Madelaine! Loved your asides about Montse and her "moue stance", throwback to LQNPA moment and the many others.

Juventino sure is something. He expects everything to be his. He sure has a fascination for collecting jewelery. Despite him being downright awful, I really like how the actor is portraying him. He does sleazy/creepy so well!

I happy that Montse is a little feisty. I liked how she told mommy dearest that she will not let Alejandro give the family one more scent.

Why do galans think that a women is "theirs" and they have "rights"...I can overlook many things but that is one of my pet peeves. So when Montse said she would be thinking about JL every time he tried to touch her I was glad. That backed him away and stopped him from uttering other silly words.

The two are to blame equally. And I hope they both realize that BOTH made bad choices that lead them to where they are now. Now lets hope between yelling and tears we can have some productive convo to get to the real truth.

Thanks Madelaine, what a thoughtful, amusing recap for a very disturbing episode. You have the perfect touch.

The acting is great but this is really troubling to watch at times. Juventino kills his brother Gaspar? Yikes.

In real life, I think the both Alejandro and Montserrat would realize this wedding was one big mistake and misunderstanding and agree to call the whole thing off. With their current attitudes, I'm not sure which one of these two I dislike more.

Poor María, talk about someone having a very bad day. I so hope that she finally ends up with Victor.

Right now, I sure wish that Refugio hadn't shot and killed that guy. He and Esmerelda seem so well-suited for each other but I see only heartbreak ahead for them.

Carlos

What a fantastic recap of a turbulent but pivotal episode, Mads. Thanks so much for putting it together so skillfully -- and even finding a little humor along the way.

As befits this episode, the -azo of the day is a depressing one: fuetazo, meaning "lash" -- in other words, a blow delivered with a riding crop or whip (fuete). It describes Gaspar's brutal punishment of his younger brother, Juventino.

I suppose we had plenty of foreshadowing (the eerie voices, Juventino's simmering resentment and sense of entitlement), but Gaspar's murder was still shocking.

Sylvia, I was also wondering about "their dear old dad" and the family that gave rise to this pair of brothers. I think the balaclava came off as soon as Juventino knew that Gaspar was doomed. He wasn't going to chance Gaspar escaping after recognizing his attacker, but as soon as he could, he whipped off the mask to make sure his brother knew who was getting the last laugh.

The depressing burial scene with a handful of mourners sheltering under black umbrellas matches the burial of Juventino's earlier victim, Don Benjamín. And now Juventino has a medal and a ring. What's next in the "Bloodshed Baubles"? [Note to Alejandro: don't flaunt any jewelry in front of Juventino.]

SR's Alejandro did the contained rage scene very well, I thought. He smashed things, yes, but managed to keep himself from smashing Montse even as she mocked him, almost inviting him to abuse her. This kind of scene is hard to do without looking either foolish (sorry, sweet William, but I'm looking at you) or vile (and this is what José Luis conveys in his rage. As Adriana says, "Guzman is the worst as a galán.")

JudyB, great point about the characters being in "old brain," savage survival mode. What we need her are some "old souls" (that is, on screen, not on The Patio).

La Paloma, I agree that Juventino is the real menace right now. That he is María's uncle, her only family, is going to protect him, at least for a while. Padre Anselmo and Dominga may be wise to him, but Alejandro is not likely to move against him any time soon.

It really is a good story, folks.

Juvie's character has a much bigger role than in AR. He is sure to be trouble for Ale and Money. In AR, this character was not obsessed with Money or a sexual predator. By the way, were Gaspar and Dominga married ? The Dominga character in AR had a different name , was older, and had a smaller part. There was also a young maid who befriended Matilde at the hacienda.

I am also confused about the money that Money gave JL. Are the police still holding it ? Has Pedro appropriated it for himself ?

Hope everyone is safe and warm on this winter's night. It is snowing here with sleet predicted. Bleeccchhh. I have a final exam to give tomorrow, and this bad weather may mess things up. I do not like to drive in bad weather and neither do my students , many of whom come from warm climates and aren't used to driving in snow and ice.

Susanlynn, Dominga and Gaspar were not married. In her almost-rape scene she was mooning over a photo of another guy, calling him "mi amor" and asking "when will I see you again?"

Monse's lost money is a loose end. Stupid JL didn't tell the commandante who the money belonged to. He didn't tell Monse about this either. She assumed he ran off with her money and when they finally hooked up she didn't even ask him about it. Not that I remember anyway.

That money has probably found itself in Pedro's coffers by now. I'm guessing that Monserrat will never get it back.

Maria is going to be very annoying from this point on. She needs to get over herself about Alejandro.

Is anyone else grabbing pix of Graceless' bad clothes as they recap? These would make a great photo gallery in a few weeks.

UA, good theory about Monse's money.

I just remembered that Dominga was looking at a pic of a guy named Macario. We do not know the nature of their relationship yet, if they have one.

NM I loved "Bloodshed Baubles"! Dang you are clever!

And "vile" is a good word for JLs over the top scenes. Believe me, I'm no Gracie fan, but it made me uncomfortable when JL was calling her a bruja and screaming at her. I get that he's mad but, as the mother of the "love of his life", you'd think he'd preserve some kind of deference and respect for her. This might be an unpopular opinion. I just prefer Ales cold, menacing words to JLs name calling.

Katy, I wish I could claim credit for "Bloodshed Baubles," but I was just quoting that smartypants, Cap'n Sylvia.
:)

I did, however, call JL's rant "vile." Regardless of how we feel about Graciela and Dimitrio, HE comes across as completely unlikeable. With Alejandro, you get the sense of a good man trying to contain his fury.

Aloha, amiguis. I have finally caught up on this show, and now it's my current favorite. All the characters, even the "good" ones, are so flawed. Friday's epi was a little shocking. I wouldn't have thought Ale would get so ragey (based just on the character here, not the show it's based on). I was expecting more depression and tears and self-loathing and less lashing out and attempts to imprison Monserrat.

But I find Refugio and Esmeralda much more compelling. WHY did he have to kill that guy? He couldn't have just shot him in the arm or something? Now how is he supposed to live happily ever after with Esme? I hope they aren't kept apart too much...these characters need shared screentime to keep some sizzle in the show.

So many bad decisions all around. JL and Refugio, for not trying to find some legal means of getting JL out. Ale, for making the deal with the devil and then ignoring all the flashing red lights telling him Monserrat wasn't really into him. Monserrat, agreeing to a terrible marriage instead of just getting a job or going to school or something. Why was she on her brother's case for being useless when she didn't do anything either?

I love the alternate casting of Marcelo Cordoba as JL. I would also propose Alex Sirvent. Or Aaron Diaz. Or the guy who plays JackAss in CI. This actor is just not well suited to this role.

I agree with all those alternate choices.

As to Monserrat getting on Dimwit's case, he has fewer excuses for his uselessness because he is older. He's 28 vs her 19. Lauro should have tossed him out on his butt 7 years ago.

Julia...Yes, Ale's rage came out of the blue. He has been a calm, cool guy up until now even when dealing with the grasping Gracie and Lazy Dimbulb who would surely make me fighting mad enough to have a Hissyfit.

As for Refugio killing the guard, maybe he wanted to just wound him but he's a bad shot. Perhaps Mexican sailors do not get a lot of practice with guns.

I am happy that so many of you Carayites agree with my suggestion of Marcelo Cordoba for the role of the tragic JL. Then again, those of you who know me also realize that I would cast my telenovio in every novela. The guy is a fox. and speaking in a stream of consciousness kind of way, have you heard the song "What does the Fox say?, It was featured on DWTS and talk about an ear worm. You can find it on YouTube. it has replaced "Blurred Lines, as my brainbeat. )

Madelaine - Thank you for the recap! I am two episodes behind and cannot possibly catch up, and then we are out of town for several days, and, well, I'll just have to read recaps for the next week.

Graciela must not have worn anything outlandish, since I see no comments. Good to know I did not miss much. LOL

Susanlynn - I can not get "What does the fox say?" out of my brain. Ack! I love the song and the video, and the parodies. Go figure...

Doris...it's addictive, isn't it ? I felt the same way about ,Blurred Lines" when it first came out. as Mads says...ear worm. !!! I heard the fox twice on DWTS , and then I found it on YouTube and played it for my daughter.

Good Evening Y'all and Muchas Gracias for all your kind words. There are so many comments and so many great thoughts!

After reading your comments Ale and Monse may be UNDEAD TO ME. Maybe I was a bit harsh with my assessment. Ale does have that rage simmering right under the surface, I just never thought he'd be slinging Monse around like that.

And for Monse to be slinging that stuff about JL in Ale's face wasn't such a good thing either.

I am just glad that no, let me call it, conjugal abuse occurred. I too want them to find out how Gracie strung them along like two fish on a hook.

I feel bad for JL simply because he never had the courage to talk to the Admiral and state his intentions. He is definitely not for Monse at all. A life on the run would not suit really, either one of them.

I too am rooting for Refugio and Esme. They are the couple that is rocking this TN right now, and I too wish he had just wounded the Lieutenant instead of killing him. I still think it was a defensive shooting. We'll have to see how this goes down the road.

Thank each and every one of you again for all of your very kind words. Y'all rock!

TESTING AGAIN

Well, I will comment on Graceless's attire: She was wearing a long white dress! As if she were the bride! She's clearly into Mr. Hottie McRichie, so I bet she does wish she had been the one to marry Alejandro! Too bad we didn't get an eyeview of her mental imagery during the wedding; it would be funny to see her picturing herself in her daughter's place!

Julia, it's great to have you join in on these comments.

Dimwit the brother also wore white and also looked terrible. Even though his hair was cut he looked like a slob.

Graciela's long skirt had one of those sheer inset panels in the middle that made it look like her legs were under a fluoroscope.

.....and again with the shawl held over her front. What is Gracie hiding ?

Mr. Hottie McRichie...I like it.

In addition to DimHope being a lazy good-for-nothing, he is an unkempt mess.

Dear Novela Maven:

This was the funniest thing I have seen all day. Maybe all week.

"Graciela's long skirt had one of those sheer inset panels in the middle that made it look like her legs were under a fluoroscope."

I cannot stop laughing. Tears are running down my face.

I think they are definately trying to hide something on Daniela. If she is still losing the baby weight wouldn't terribly simple and well tailored do a better job?

EJ

Dear Elna June:

I'm so happy to have made you laugh.

"I think they are definitely trying to hide something on Daniela. If she is still losing the baby weight wouldn't terribly simple and well tailored do a better job?"

Well yes, a better job of making her look tasteful or age-appropriate or even just attractive. But since the character is none of these things…

That bit with MODA magazine a few episodes back was a big wink to the audience. We are invited to mock her "fashion sense."

This combination of wicked and comic is interesting. Does it take the edge off a little? Does it make the story safer or more palatable to us?

I love the way Daniela Castro is playing her character, combined with the way she dresses. The comments to Monserrat about her fashion sense, the commentary on the fashion magazine...all while she herself looks like she got dressed in the dark in a tornado. It's a good strong hint of how off-kilter this woman is.

Dimdim is even more of a moron than we already knew if he can't see that Josefina is one quick makeover from model material. Even with the bad hair and clothes and eyebrows, she's still beautiful. I hope she finds someone less shallow and more perceptive who is worth her interest.

"...all while she herself looks like she got dressed in the dark in a tornado."
Julia - well said. BwaHahahahaaaaa!

You all brightened up my morning with all the talk about Gracie's clothes. Daniela Castro might still be hiding some baby weight and the "style" she's sporting works very well with the character.

Madelaine, your UNDEAD commentary made me laugh.... I got visions of vampires and warewolves....

Madelaine, thanks for the wonderful recap. I loved all of the insight and attention to detail. Sorry about the late comment, but I was doing my Christmas shopping this weekend, and I just finished wrapping the majority of them.

What an episode! ITA with some of you that the arguing between Montse and Ale didn't bother me. I would feel different had he slapped her, as someone said happened in AR. The actors really showed their talents. I too thought it was kind of funny how Montse asked for her case of cremas, and Ale said he would get it for her. At one point in the argument, it almost seemed as if Montse was acting like a child, and Ale was playing the role of the parent. But then Montse turned it around when she threw a "punch" by saying that she would be thinking of JL if they had sex. That was a low blow, and definitely not childlike behavior.

You know, when it comes down to it, I don't think Montse wanted to go with JL. Putting aside the fact that it would be a hard life on the run, if she REALLY wanted to go, she would have gone with him in her wedding dress. But I guess it was more important for her to go home to get her suit case of cremas before leaving. She wouldn't last a week living with JL; whether on the run or not.

Also, did you notice that even though they were pithed at each other, Ale displayed a "galan moment" when he opened the door for Montse as they were leaving her parents house, and when they arrived at the hacienda. It's the little things.

Can't wait for Monday's episode.

Back to sleep...Hasta pronto!

Aunty Ann, I had noticed the moment he opened the door for her, but forgot to mention it before.
He is mad at her, but he can't help himself... I suspect we'll have more scenes like this one... Can't wait!

Haha about Montse going back home to grab her cremas before going on the run with the love of her life...If she does manage to get away from Ale, I suspect love will last them until she needs to redo her makeup...

Thanks so much for a muy helpful re-cap!

Neither JL nor Montse has processed a life on the run. JLs problem, his main problem I believe, is that he has tunnelvision and is not capable of thinking beyond the now.

So this actor who is JL was Diego in Alborada? Oh my..I will never look at JL the same again, Without Diego overshadowing him. Ack.

ITA with everyone in that it is hard to show sympathy towards JL because of the way he is written and acted. He sounds so whiny especially with Montse.

He should be more like Refugio who even though he has feelings for Esme...he sacrificed that so that she wouldn't be subjected to life on the run with him. He his much more reasonable and far sited than JL. His only problem is that he gives in to JL's capricious actions.

In JL's defense, he's been railroaded for murder and theft, hasn't even been allowed a lawyer for his defense, and his buddy Refugio jumped the gun and made things worse. Then Montse pops up in a wedding gown and married and no time to talk. The poor man hasn't processed it all. I'm waiting to see what plan he comes up with, besides hitching a ride on a freight train.

Niecie, it all happened very fast for us, but JL had two months to process all that has happened.
The first month, while he and Refugio were in that dingy place, with Refu getting well from his wound - is this the kind of place where he plans to take Montse?
After, the other month, while Montse was with the family in the city, he stayed with the town streaper, Esmeralda. Again, not the best place for a senorita de sociedad.
I think two months are more than enough time for a REASONABLE man to realize you can't subject the woman you love to a life of hiding and running.

I'm sure Montse didn't even think things through because she really didn't have the time to do it. She spent the two months as Ale's novia, convinced JL betrayed her and thinking that maybe she could one day love Ale. She only found out she was being sold a day before the wedding and she was STILL willing to get married in the name of hate, I guess.
She got the idea to leave with JL when he practically begged her on the beach. I'm sure she'll do a lot of pining and crying and complaining that she has to leave in a nice ranch with servants and her cremas, but she has no clue about the alternative - It's not like JL had the time to tell her how he's spent the last two months.
I almost wish that she had left with him after all, just to see how that would be like.

Ufff.... rant over.
I do agree that JL has some redemeening qualities, but, like someone else already mentioned this before, all three main characters are acting on impulse and emotion, not reason and good judgment.

"Acting on impulse and emotion". ...and there you have it folks, the perfect description of a telenovela.

Perhaps, it was not politeness and chivalry that caused Ale to open the door for Money, but rather a premonition that she would 1) not follow him , but instead lock the door behind him and bolt in the opposite direction or 2) kick him in the pants if he went out the door first. I was afraid that as she passed through the opened door , he might give her a push.

I like this novela so far, I am also enjoying the 8 pm show and holding on for the finale of CI.

well, I just got back from giving the speaking final and have to figure final grades. We had snow and freezing rain yesterday, so lots of two hour delays this morning and icy sidewalks to navigate at the college. Winter..yikes. My Mexican student is headed back to Guadlajara for the holidays away from the cold . Lucky guy.

Niecie, I am in sympathy for JL for all the reasons you noted so perfectly. I know that I would not be able to recover in the course of a few short months. He has made mistakes but is/was not at all deserving of what occurred: life shattering losses, culminating in being unjustly jailed.

Waiting to see what he does next - he won't go away quietly, that is all we know for certain.

Diana

Whatever we may feel for José Luis and Refugio, there is an inexorable BEFORE and AFTER that dooms them:

The death of Teniente Avellaneda

Before, JL was an innocent man. Now he is an accomplice to murder and a traitor. He can't be a free man in Mexico. His only hope is escaping over the border. He really has absolutely nothing to offer the woman he professes to love.

Also, however much we may sentimentalize Refugio's relationship with Esmeralda, it is equally doomed;

How long before JL and Refugio realize that it was Esmeralda who paid that visit to Montserrat and told her the very convincing lies about her past with JL?

Sorry folks. The navy boys are toast. And so is the Refugio-Esme romance.

I am not certain, but in Amor Real , I do not think that Bachelor #1's friend killed anyone, at least not this early in the story. He did not meet him until he went jail after the wedding, I think. Also,, the best friend was a scrawny , little, older guy, not a young stud like Refugio, and he did not have a love interest. His whole rason d'être was helping his railroaded amigo. I agree that things do not look good for JL and Refugio who are not so good at problem solving.

I am thinking frying pan>>>>fire for are two amigos. And so it goes.

Any bets on whether Esmeralda is pregnant? Or Money?

I don't think either of them is pregnant. Esmeralda has probably been around the block enough times to know better and I don't think Monserrat is for other reasons. She's certainly going to have more than enough to contend with when Maria senses that all is not well between her and Alejandro. She will take advantage of that in no time.

Well, I don't think there is any form of contraception that is effective against a need for more drama in the plot. So I wouldn't say Esme is in the clear. I think Money could go either way. I can see the drama factor of her and Ale coming to terms and starting to have a loving relationship...and then BAM, she finds out she's pregnant and that drives them apart again. But then again, that would be a departure from tradition.

LFDD departed from tradition by having its heroine pregnant as a result of rape. For Monserrat to be pregnant by Jose Luis would have huge conflict potential, maybe too big.

Unless the baby is a girl and her first child with Alejandro is a boy. But that makes it antideluvian all over again.

I'm fine with all possibilities as long as no one refers to their child as "the fruit of our love". GROSS!

Here’s the list.:

Week of December 2, 2013:

Highpoints:
Another kiss.
Ale and Mons are going steady.
Maria waits and waits and waits and . . . .
Ale and Mons get engaged.
More kisses.
Refugio and JL save Esmeralda.
Carlota and Mons have a sweet talk.
Ref and Esme are clicking.
Ale comforts Mons.
Refugio saves Esme.
Alpo is “cheating” Dim out of his share of Fina’s money.
Refugio and Esme get it on.
Hard, I know, but now Mons knows the extent that her mother will go.
Back to the hacienda (I can’t wait to see Maria’s face).
Esme to the rescue!
Poor Maria.

Low Points:
Gracie has been put in charge of business matters.
JL and Ref are involved in a killing.
Gracie manipulates Ale into caving re: Dims debts.
Mons doesn’t want to live on the hacienda (girl, think about it—you’d be away from your mama).
Mons doesn’t really want to marry Ale and Ale is clueless in his love for her.
Juv lusting after Mons in his thoughts (I need a thorough scrubbing).
Dim cause his father to have a heart attack.
Mons finds out about Ale’s agreement with her mother.
Gracie lies about her part in the agreement and believes Ale’s a villain (Mons have you MET your mother).
Dim plays on Josefina’s feelings.
Dim’s treatment of Esme.
Mons plans revenge on Ale.
Dim and Alpo scam Josefina out of a lot of money.
Mons leaves her wedding reception to meet J-L.
Mons and J-L make up as Vic records it all.
Juvie kills Gaspar. He’s displaying serial killer tendencies---taking trophies.
Refugio has to leave Esme.
Ale is not happy his wife of two seconds is running off with another man.
Nadia spills the beans.
Gracie proves, once again, she’s Mother of the Year material.
The most unobservant people on the planet live at this hacienda—especially when it comes to big pieces of gold jewelry wearing the wrong guy.
Poor Mons—Juvie’s got the disgusting hots for her.

OT: Saw Fernando Colunga and Blanca Soto in their new play on Saturday. BS was great, as was the second mail lead. FC was good, but he played the straight man in this comedy, so it was pretty much business as usual. Don’t remember who the other lead was. She was OK. I didn’t really care for her. Unfortunately, BS was only in the first act and a little bit at the end. She got big laughs on all her, I’m assuming, funny lines—except a couple, which got laughs—just not big ones. I was impressed.

OOT: Did a “The Paradise” marathon this weekend. Now having withdrawals.

Nanette

Susanlynn - I think you are correct; I also remember Adolfo Solis' sidekick NOT being a hunk.

Nanette...What is "The Paradise?"

Nanette, thank you for the fun lists and for reporting back on Oscuro Total. I read that FC also directed the play. A first for him.

ITA about the unobservant hacienda people. Dim's not the only dim one in the show.

Susanlynn: The Paradise is a Masterpiece Classic series that everybody was going on and on about during the final discussion of PEAM. I hadn't planned to watch it since I didn't care for Selfridge's and this show also takes place in a department store a hundred years or so back, but now I'm glad I did.

Sylvia: FC directed and adaptation.

Wrote to fast. Meant the last discussions of PEAM and that FC wrote the adaptation.

Good Evening Y'all what a great discussion this is! I was unable to comment today, but just took a look at the rest of the comments and wow!

Nanette:

Thanks so very much for your lists. I really like them and they cover absolutely everything in a nutshell. Please keep them coming. Glad you liked the play that FC and BS are doing. It sounds fun. I didn't watch the Paradise either cause I didn't like Selfridges. How did you find Silk? Did you like it?

Nanette- Thanks for the great list!

I'm glad you liked The Paradise. I liked it much better than Selfridges.

Nanette - I LOVE The Paradise!!!

I do not understand how women in the year 2013 can condone Alejandro's domineering and abusive behavior towards Monse. Would you like it if a man treated your daughter this way? What kind of morals are we teaching to the young women of today? That it's okay for a man to throw you around, breaks phones, instill fear into you..just as long as he is a galan? I am gasping at the women on here that said "Well at least he didn't slap her like in AR" Are you serious? He hurt her! She kept telling him that he was hurting her and to let her go. He did not listen. This entire novela has very out-dated and unacceptable ideas as to how to treat a woman. It is as if Monse is leaving one abusive home for another. Shame shame

The rape scene may have been mild but rape is rape regardless. I think a lot of fanatics are trying to dance around the issues because they don't want to feel differently about their "galan". The truth is Alejandro is controlling, quick-tempered, and occasionally physically abusive. This is not making his character anymore appealing to me. I am being turned off by his aggressive machista behavior. I wish we would have been warned that Alejandro was going to be a bad guy, I think I would be able to stomach his behavior a little bit more if I knew what to expect.
