Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 22 - 11/19/2013 - Reveals, Obsessions, Arguments and Confessions

High Stakes Game At the Dinner Table

Outside the dining room the woman looks up at the man, smug, self-satisfied. She is somewhat older than the handsome man to whom she speaks, but she tosses her head and beam at him with a look that is a parody of the coquette she may once have been. She is more practiced than he at the social dance that conceals fear and hatred.

He, Alejandro Almonte, is less urbane, less polished than the woman. Still—he understands she is playing a game; a game she intends to win. She is his mother-in-law, Graciela, but there is no love lost between these two. That much is clear.

Graciela –“ If you tell anyone my secret you will be responsible for killing the Admiral. Consider well, you have more to lose than I do.”

Alejandro – “What game are you playing at? I am not going to kill your husband.”

Graciela – “If you tell my husband this news, he will have a heart attack. It will be your fault. Your fault. She punctuates each word with her index finger. “You will be responsible for his death and my daughter Montserrat will hate you even more than she does now.”

The son-in-law, Alejandro, seems almost incredulous at the woman’s audacity. His face is still as she takes his arm and cozily leads him into the dining room.  They sit down with the waiting others: the stunning young bride Montserrat, her Aunt Carlota and Graciela’s husband, Admiral Lauro Mendoza.

The dinner conversation wanders down familiar paths; the delicious meal prepared by Tia Carlota, and the Admiral’s fond hope that the newlyweds will soon give him a grandchild. Alejandro covers his wife’s hand with his own as he assures the family that there is nothing he would like more than to make a family with his wife, Montserrat.

But now the conversation takes a different turn, set up by an innocent question from the kindly Aunt. Why, she asks, did Alejandro’s father never marry?

Alejandro looks steadily down the long dining table, catching his mother-in-law’s eyes and holding them with his own.

Alejandro – “In fact my father had a relationship for many years with a woman. A bad woman. But it was impossible for them to marry, because she was already married. She stayed with my father for a long time with the only motivation that she would receive all of his money when he died.”

By the time Tia Carlota opines that it is hard to believe in the immorality of such a woman, Graciela abruptly stands up.  She has suddenly been taken ill and must leave the table. She asks Montserrat to join her as she leaves the room. Alejandro then follows them out. The Admiral notes to Tia Carlota that her questions made Alejandro seem very uncomfortable.

A Matter Of Great Delicacy

Outside, in the Mendoza’s beautiful garden, Graciela admits to Montserrat and Alejandro that she must speak to them on a matter of great delicacy.

Graciela starts the conversation by telling Montserrat that she is being very unjust to her husband. Montserrat shoots back that Alejandro and her mother have gone, once again, behind her back.

Alejandro’s face is stern as he looks at his mother in law. “Your mother knows more about the death of Bruno Gamboa than either you or me,” he says.

Sra Graciela Mendoza now spins out a sanitized backstory to Montserrat. It seems that through a mistake of brother Dimitrio’s, the bad man Bruno Gamboa had obtained the deed to the Mendoza house AND a promissory note with the false signature of Lauro Mendoza. This was not a good situation.

Naturally Sra Mendoza had to get these documents back from Bruno Gamboa. She enlisted the help of her beloved son, and they went to visit Gamboa. They asked Gamboa nicely to give them the deed. He refused.  Sra Mendoza and Dimitrio left Gamboa’s, but Dimitrio went back into Bruno’s house for a final try at getting the documents. Alas, Bruno Gamboa had armed himself with a pistol, there was a struggle, and the pistol went off. It was an accident. Bruno Gamboa was dead.

The young woman Montserrat looks stunned as she hears this story. “Dimitrio—my brother—killed Bruno Gamboa?” she gasps. “No! It was an accident!” snaps her mother. “It just happened that Jose Luis Alvarez came by at this time, and…”

The older woman, Graciela, looks dangerous and very agitated, a bit like a hyena cornered in her den. Still, she is economical with the truth. “We did NOT frame Jose Luis for the murder.” Montserrat again looks stunned at her mother’s words.

Alejandro now attacks his suegra. “No, you let an innocent man be named a criminal and jailed for a crime you knew he did not commit. You turned him into a fugitive!” The handsome man is clearly outraged.

Graciela counter attacks. Jose Luis Alvarez is a very dangerous man. He killed a navy lieutenant in order to escape captivity. She immediately moves into a manipulative stance. “Please, do not hurt Dimitrio! Please leave things as they are. Your brother has changed,” she pleads to Montserrat.” He is a businessman, now, and is helping your father with expenses.”

Montserrat is held hostage by her profound attachment to her father and her fear for his health, and perhaps his safety. But Montserrat grasps the core of her mother’s message. “All of this was done to protect my brother,” she chokes out.

The mother-in-law has now regained her ironclad poise, as she pulls the protective cloak of motherhood around her shoulders. “Look Montserrat,” the woman hisses. Everything I have done was for my children. Someday, when you are a mother, you will understand.” Her words hang heavily in the air, like a prophecy. She turns on her high heels and returns to the house.

Alejandro Almonte meets his wife’s shocked eyes. Montserrat was surprised that he would speak in such a manner to her mother. The handsome man’s face tries to convey that he is not Graciela’s Mendoza’s accomplice in all things. He acknowledges an injustice and a hard truth. “What your mother and brother did to Jose Luis was wrong. But if he were alive and tried to take you from me, I do not know what I would do.”

A Business Proposition and a Near Confession

Another beautiful young woman and her older husband come to visit the Mendoza house. Admiral Mendoza welcomes Pedro Medina and his wife, Nadia, into the family home. But it seems that Medina has an agenda, Nadia heads out to the garden to see her old friend, Montserrat, and Pedro wants to have a word with Alejandro Almonte. After a brief and barely polite inquiry into Almonte’s newly married state Medina gets to the point. He still wants to buy some land that Almonte owns. He has already offered double the going price for these lands. The offer stands.

Nadia finds Montse in the garden, agitated and crying.  Montserrat tells Nadia that she is very upset, confused and doubtful. She needs to talk to someone. She wants some peace.

But in the house, Almonte once again turns down Pedro Medina’s offer to buy his uncultivated lands. The land is not for sale, he says, and he notes that it seems interesting that Medina is willing to pay twice the going rate for them. Medina is very unhappy about his development and leaves Almonte abruptly to gather his wife and go home.

Before Montserrat can tell Nadia anything meaningful, Pedro Media rudely grabs his wife’s arm and escorts her off the Mendoza property. Later, when Nadia protests to Pedro about his rude treatment of her and complains of what the Mendoza’s and Almontes must think of them, he ignores her and calls in his henchman, Loreto. When Nadia has left, Pedro Medina berates Loreto that earlier he failed to get any useful information for use as leverage against Alejandro Almonte. Medina needs that land and, ominously, he orders Loreto to take care of Almonte. “Clear him out,” says Medina.

Two Are Stalking For ‘Love’

Deep in the countryside, at the Almonte Hacienda, Maria Zamudio sinks deeper into her obsession with her childhood friend and employer, Alejandro Almonte. Now that she lives in the big house, with Almonte and his new bride, she is finding it easier to indulge her delusions. She cannot seem to help herself as she sneaks into Montserrat’s room. She rifles Montserrat’s drawers and finally steals some of Montse’s trousseau, a set of black panties and a bra.

Outside the Hacienda, Alejandro Almonte and his bride return home. As she is getting out of her husband’s truck, Montserrat breaks a delicate heel on her shoe. Jose Luis Alvarez, a.k.a. Antonio Alvares, fugitive from justice and new overseer of Hacienda Almonte, is spying on the returning couple. Montserrat’s former lover watches as Alejandro insists on picking up his tiny wife and carrying her up the steps to the house and into her room.

Once in her room, Montserrat is still cold to Alejandro. He had hoped that things might turn out differently…But she still blames Alejandro for separating her from Jose Luis. She saw Alejandro at the outdoor café with Esmerelda. She believes that Alejandro hired the woman who claimed to be Jose Luis’ ex-girlfriend and caused her to doubt Jose Luis.
Alejandro denies this. He wants Montserrat to believe him. But Montse returns that Alejandro will not believe her, when she says that his ‘friend’ Maria helped her in her attempt at escape. She tells him to get out of her room.

The Stalkers Reveal Themselves

Alejandro returns to his room. He is undressing, clothed only in tight white jeans when Maria enters his room in a short white silk robe. Maria devours Alejandro’s part clad body with her eyes. If he will let her, she says, she will make Alejandro very happy.  She opens and drops the robe to reveal a lean but curvy body—dressed only in Montserrat’s stolen bra and panties.

Alejandro stares at her, appalled. He reaches down to get the robe on the floor and places it back on her shoulders. He speaks evenly but it is clear that he is very angry. He tells Maria, “ I want to make something very clear. If this happens again you will leave this house. Get out of my room. And close the door behind you.”

At the same time Alejandro has his encounter with Maria, Montserrat’s stalker, Jose Luis, is scaling the wall outside her second floor bedroom balcony. He lands on the balcony and throws open the wooden shutters to Montserrat’s room

Montserrat is startled and not happy to see Jose Luis. “Are you crazy,” she asks? “What are you doing in my room?” Jose Luis, jealous, asks her why Alejandro Almonte was just in her room.  “Because he is my husband,” retorts Montserrat. “Because this is his house.”

Jose Luis says that their situation needs clarification. “Yes,” Montserrat agrees. She starts to tell him of the news of who really killed Bruno Gamboa, just as a knock sounds on her door.

It is Alejandro. “Can he come in?” he asks. Montse rushes Jose Luis to hide in her closet as she opens the door to her husband. He asks why she locked her door. Montserrat says it is because she sleeps better.  Alejandro reaches out to Montserrat. “I thought the day might end with us a little closer.” He wants to talk. But Montserrat keenly aware of the fact that her former lover is listening behind the arras, pleads tiredness and asks if they can talk tomorrow. Alejandro agrees, says goodnight and leaves the room.

Jose Luis comes out of the closet and roughly seats Montserrat on her loveseat. He sits opposite her and reiterates that they must talk. Monstse wants him to leave immediately—she does not want him to get into more trouble. But Jose Luis insists that they talk. They discuss Bruno Gamboa and Jose tells Montserrat that she cannot trust her mother’s version of events. He cannot believe that she would let a man dominate her. She cannot believe he has blood on his hands. Yes, Jose admits, he is responsible for the death of a man. Sometimes things happen. Montse replies that the Jose Luis she knew would never…

The argument continues.

In The Kitchen

Alejandro goes to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Maria follows him there.
The woman is slightly hysterical. She feels really bad. He replies that he is married. Period.  “To a woman who doesn’t love you,” Maria responds. She begins a manipulative diatribe. “This is all my fault.”  It’s her fault, she says, because if she had only been more direct, and made her feelings plain to Alejandro…

“Basta!” snarls Alejandro. “Victor told me that he can find a place for you in Agua Azul in the business. I think you should go there.”

Maria now begs Alejandro not to make her go to Agua Azul He should trust her.

Alejandro does not have the look of a fool. But he says to Maria, “Let us forget this.
You have to accept that I am a married man. You cannot do anything to change these things. “ He walks away.

But Maria’s face hardens as she responds to Ale’s departing back, “Let us see if that is true.”

An Argument No One Can Win

Montserrat and Jose Luis argue, fruitlessly. He says her mother is lying to her. She blames him for not having spoken to her father when she asked him to…Jose Luis gives Montserrat a clue to his character when he replies. “For me, it was not important that I speak to your father. What was important for me was what I felt,” he pounds his heart with his right fist, “Here!”

Jose Luis poses a final question, “Do you want to live your life with a man you do not love?” Montse says she does not want to live her life on the run. She needs a little peace. She needs a little time to think. He kisses her. “Your lips don’t lie.” He says.

She pushes him away. Please. Please.

Jose Luis agrees to leave her to think. “I will ask you a favor. Do not take long for I may be the one get s hurt.” She agrees to give him an answer tomorrow, but demands a favor in return. For no reason is he ever to come into her bedroom ever again. I forbid you. She closes the shutters behind her as he exits the room onto the balcony and climbs back down the side of the house.

As he is leaving he ruins into Juventino. “What are you doing near the house at this hour?” asks Juventino.” Jose Luis asks the same question in return. It seems that each man went for a walk. They bid one another good night.

It is unclear if Juventino saw Jose Luis climb down from Montserrat’s balcony.

Next Day At The Hacienda

Alejandro strides into the foreman’s house just as Rosario is finished cleaning.  Jose Luis is looking at papers. Alejandro tells Rosario he wants her to work only for his wife.

Jose Luis and Alejandro have a bonding business conversation. Jose needs a computer to do his job.  Ale will get one tomorrow. They discuss the Hacienda, what is under cultivation, fair living wages for the workers and discover that they share many of the same values. They mount horses and ride around the ranch.  As they conclude their ride, Alejandro seems to like Jose Luis very much. It is deeply poignant when Alejandro opines that one day he and Jose Luis will be great friends.

Father Anselmo Takes A Confession

Rosario brings a breakfast tray into Montserrat’s room and catches la Señora with a curler in the front of her hair. Rosario notes that Montse is less sad. Montse asks after Alejandro. Rosario answers that he went out to do a tour of the ranch with the new capitaz.

Father Anselmo comes to visit the Hacienda. He is there to visit Montserrat. She welcomes him and he begins to talk to her. They discuss her family—she misses them. A meddling fellow, this priest notes that Montse and Alejandro are not enjoying their time together as newlyweds. He knows the circumstances of the wedding were not clear. There were many tricks and misunderstandings. But Montserrat and Alejandro are married now and God wants them to love each other. He begins a rapturous and idealized description of Alejandro’s character. He is good and noble, perhaps a little impulsive, but...and Montserrat is a good person.  Montserrat should turn to God to light the way.

Montserrat agrees that she needs strength to accept her situation. She will speak to Father Anselmo privately, in the study, under the seal of the confessional.

The study is dark. The priest and the woman sit, facing one another, on heavy black and ancient looking furniture.  The scene is viewed through the distorting effect of two crystal decanters of spirits that sit on a table to the right.

Father Anselmo verbally paints a hagiographic picture of Alejandro. He has suffered. His has not been an easy life. Alejandro has integrity. The only mistake Ale made was to make the contract with her mother. But Alejandro is very in love with you.  Father Anselmo begs Montserrat to forget her rancor and learn to love her husband.

Montserrat doesn’t know what to think. Again, this is not how she sees Alejandro. She still loves Jose Luis. She is very confused, especially now that…

The priest catches her hesitation. She is afraid to trust Father Anselmo—afraid of being betrayed. Anselmo self-righteously reminds her of the sanctity of her confession.

Perhaps reassured, Montserrat finished her thought. “Jose Luis is here. At the Hacienda. He is the new ranch foreman.”

Hope everyone enjoys the straight ahead narrative style of the recap. I thought such a style might be useful to help anyone new to the show to catch up with these major events without wading through too much opinion.

Here in the comments, however, I must mention that I cannot understand Father Anselmo's constant aggrandizement of Alejandro's character and finer qualities.

Huh? Did the priest fall asleep during one of Al's confessions?

Father Anselmo, do an apologia for your boy if you must, but I am not seeing Alejandro as an innocent, wronged choirboy.

Elna June:

What a fantastic recap! It was written like a novel and I hung on to every word! Marvelous!

Ale sure pushed Gracie's buttons didn't he? Good for him! At least more of the truth has finally come out and Monse can see how bad her Mama and Dimwit truly are. Now Monse also knows about LT Avendella but not really who killed him, that was Refugio.

I think Monse is starting to see the differences with Ale and JL. With Ale, I think she finally realizes she may, have misjudged him but she still doesn't trust him. I'm glad she called JL on his having no avocadoes. When she was kissing JL she looked reluctant to me. It wasn't the same as before. I am glad she got the story from JL too, and I'm glad she banned him from her room. No, Juvie didn't see JL climbing down from the balconey but he saw Monse on it.

Maria has a nerve, and I don't think she'll give up on Ale anytime soon. How icky to go get Monse's unmentionables and put them on, ewwwwwww, gross. Funny how she did that, I guess she thinks that would have turned Ale on. Maria needs to go. I wish Ale had been firmer with her and sent her off to Victor.

Loving Rosario and glad Ale told her to only take care of his wife. I am glad Rosario told Ale Maria said it was her job to look after JL and Refugio. Good for Ale.

I am liking the Padre and how he gets the truth out of everyone. He didn't like the fact of the seal of the confessional and I can't wait to see what advice he gives Monse. It should be good.

Loving Lottie! That woman and her frank speaking, so liking it! I really hope Lottie comes to the hacienda soon so Rosario and Lottie can tag team ole Maria and Juvie.

Good morning, all. Elna June..thanks for giving us a speedy recap of all the happenings.

I think that Gracie is starting to realize that her new yerno ( my Ipad wants to change this to "new year") is not so easily controlled. I am enjoying the menacing looks that he shoots at her.

Yikes..JL decides that it would be a good idea to climb up to Juliette's balcony. really ? She seemed to be pushing his sweaty self away to me.

I like the way Monymony gets dressed up everyday in her little dress, heels, and jewelry with no where to go.

in AR, the hacienda was quite a long carriageride to town, so Matilde was stranded at the hacienda and did not see her family for quite a long time.

I thought we were going to get some action when Ale carried Monymony into the house! but....no.

Maria is a cheeky thing...just as the housekeeper was in AR. She wants what she wants. Stealing the undies from Monymony was....creepy...and didn't work out so well...HA.

EJ thanks so much for this recap. I enjoyed your approach as Mads said it read like a novel. And I'm w/you on Padre A's "constant aggrandizement" of Ale. Yes Ale has some great qualities but he has a lot of growing up to do; did he think one day of not being on lock down would cause Monse to fall in his arms? I mean as SR ok but not for Monse w/Ale. Moreover, she keeps getting bombs dropped on her: finding out about the depths of depravity of her mother and brother and JL's lack of avocados and common sense.

Don't you love how men in tns always feel that can handle the crazed woman after them but usually always fail to keep crazy at bay; I guess "Fatal Attraction" doesn't seem to be on tn galan's radar and this is a shame as so many bad situations could be avoided.

And why can't poor Ale at this moment start tracking Maria's actions so he can see a pattern? If we follow the tn playbook, its just matter of time before Maria gets him drugged or drunk, gets in bed w/him and manages to get "caught" by Monse. Sigh.

Once Monse and Ale really can communicate, they need to realize that Graceless is not to be trusted EVER; there is always an angle to her version of events. While JL is not blameless (though extremely clueless), he was framed.

Excellent, Elna June! Let's see some more Victorian-style prose in future!

As to Padre Anselmo's praising of Alejandro I doubt very much that Alejandro ever confessed the details of the "wedding night" to him. He may not have explained the house arrest either.

I also think that Monserrat is falling out of love with Jose Luis. His failure to approach the Admiral and the blood on his hands (even if he didn't shoot the lieutenant) is not working in his favor. Also, Monserrat doesn't want to live a fugitive life and she is within her rights to refuse it.

When Maria stole the lingerie I thought she was going to do something else with it. She has to be all kinds of stupid to think that this was a good move. Now she can't do with the underwear what I thought she was going to do with it (plant it in the cottage or elsewhere).

However, it could fall into Juvenpervo's hands. That exponentially raises the Ick Factor.

Elna June: Excellent, sharp and concise summary.

"The son-in-law, Alejandro, seems almost incredulous at the woman’s audacity", "sanitized backstory" and "hagiographic picture" were especially appreciated. Thank you so much for the conversation translations - they were so helpful!

My favorite was :"The mother-in-law has now regained her ironclad poise, as she pulls the protective cloak of motherhood around her shoulders" - wow...

ITA with "Father Anselmo, do an apologia for your boy if you must, but I am not seeing Alejandro as an innocent, wronged choirboy". While it is true that Ale might not have been forthcoming about all that occurred (as UA noted), he is not the poster boy for galan behavior. Far from it...

Karen: "Don't you love how men in tns always feel that can handle the crazed woman after them but usually always fail to keep crazy at bay" - yes, so true! How DO you solve a problem like Maria?? We know she is here for the duration and not likely to leave of her own volition.

Madelaine, I was cheering at Ale's skilled handling of Graciela. A forced confession I am sure leaving out the all important detail that she did indeed frame JL.

JL is getting desperate and as such, careless. Yes, Susanlynn, Monse did seem torn but inclined to push JL's "sweaty self" away. The way the sceen was shot, I thought Juvie did not see JL climb out of the window but did see Monse on the balcony. I'm sure his odious hackles have been raised.

So what is going to happen tonight? Can't wait to find out.

Thank you again Elna June for this fantastic recap.

Diana

Thank you, Elna June, I love reading your recaps.

This was a great episode. I loved Ale's avocadoes (hehe) at the table with the Mendoza family.
He really outsmarted Graceless with that one... I don't think he would have said more than he did, but it was enough for her to spill the beans.

Urban, I agree with you about Maria taking Montse's clothes - I thought "voodoo", NOT going all fatal attraction on Ale. Wearing another woman's underwear (your RIVAL!) is all kinds of icky, but what can we expect from someone who allows disgusting Juvie to be near her?

Madelaine, I totally got the same feeling as you about Montse not being as smitten as before with JL. She was mainly pissed that he dared to enter her room,in HER husband's house.
She's really starting to take pride in calling Ale HER husband, don't yall think?
She did kiss JL but I think AB doesn't like him too much, she seems rather uncomfortable in their kissing scenes.
And I loved how she told him at the end to never come to her room again. She might still be resisting it, but her subconscious is yelling: "This is YOUR house, YOUR husband, YOUR life; forget about the Sweaty One and start remodelling the house - you know you want to."

So now padre will know all kind of secrets, Rosario's, Montse's... what's a padre to do to fix everything?
I think he's a little blind to Ale's temper tantrums because he sees him almost like a son. Of course he hasn't see all the ugly stuff happening between Ale and Montse, but he's talking like a priest - putting the sacrilege of marriage above all else.

I watched the episode that follows after this one, and, without giving away any spoilers, I can tease that he's in great form in the rest of his talk with Montse. Can't wait for you all to watch and tell me what you think.

Elna June, thank you for your excellent recap. I enjoyed it very much!

My favorite part of the episode was Ale's non-flattering description of his father's lover in front of Graciela. It was interesting as she really couldn't handle it and had to leave the table. So she isn't as tough as we might have thought. Great scene.

JL is clearly going to be a problem for Montse since he isn't going to take no for an answer. Montse will have her hands full with him and Maria. I liked the promo showing her taking control. It looks like Montse will have support at least from Rosario and Father Anselmo.

Sure agree with everyone with the ick factor of the stolen underwear.

Jarifa

"Sacrilege of marriage?"

I didn't think of voodoo, but that's another option. I totally miss supernatural stuff in novelas.

JL is definitely a loose cannon now. I am starting to wonder if he will ultimately decide that if he can't have Monserrat he won't care about what happens to her marriage if he outs himself as Corporal Alvarez.

Ah, Elna June! Wish that I could express myself as beautifully as you to describe how delicious this recap is. Thank you!

"Economical" with the truth though she was I was shocked that this much truth was revealed by Gracie. I thought this would be revealed much, much, later. Montse, of course, was shocked as well. Hasn't this girl gotten at least one gut-wrenching jolt every day since we've met her? And Gracie is such a player but I think her tears and anguish were for real?!

Neither can I express the depth of my contempt for Maria: To listen in at a couple's bedroom door and then offer herself in the man's wife's stolen undies. The brazen strumpet! I don't know if Ale did it on purpose but as he bent to pick of STFUMaria's robe she was already to surrender her nagging maw to his kiss. . .PSYCH!! Delusional and obsessed indeed: “This is all my fault.” What? Yeah STFU Maria! Ale, I hope Padre, Rosario or Victor helps you see the light about this psycho bitch before you get hurt, baby.

And thank you, EJ for helping me understand the argument between JL and Montse. He did indeed reveal himself. According to him "He cannot believe that she would let a man dominate her" Uh, you mean "other than me" don't you? And this: “For me, it was not important that I speak to your father. What was important for me was what I felt,” he pounds his heart with his right fist, “Here!” I hope Montse really heard what he was saying and I think she did thus taking refuge in a confessional bond with Padre whom she knows can protect her from a JL she really didn't know and Ale whom she still does not trust. Her face when JL admitted to being involved in a murder really struck Montse. I think she's done with the sweaty one!

Lastly, poor Ale was so cute thinking he was gonna download some lovin' after the revelation. Sound the gong: not yet, sugar!

Urban, I meant "SACRAMENT of marriage" but my brain and my typing fingers were disconnected, I guess.
But, if I think about it, they kind of commited a sacrilege by marrying and then fighting every single day about who's the bigger liar and who despises who more.

Ah, well, only in telenovelas...

Lila, I agree that Montse is slowly starting to know the real JL... what's that nonsense about not needing to talk to the father which Montse adores??
Bad move, dude, but I suspect this is only the first in a long list of stupid stuff he'll be doing from now on.

When we first met Maria I didn't think she'd become so vicious as to think about killing Montse, so I think she's capable of everything, even a little bit of black magic.

Lila: "brazen strumpet!" HA!

"He did indeed reveal himself. According to him "He cannot believe that she would let a man dominate her" Uh, you mean "other than me" don't you?"

Well said!

Dear Elna June,

I loved reading this beautiful recap. Thank you so much! I admired both your the strength and style of your narrative that really let the characters and the drama shine through. Probably you know Elizabeth Gaskell, the wonderful 19th century British novelists. This really gave me the experience of reading her work.

Others have commented, too, on this, but I also especially appreciated how you described Padre A.'s description of Alejandro as hagiographic!

I was happy to see Alejandro call Graciela's bluff and give her a taste of how awful it would be if she really were exposed to her family.

Jarifa, I agree that Gracie's not as strong as we and she thinks she is. She had to 'retire' to her recamara, afterwards!

Was also really happy to see a couple of sweet moments between Montse and Ale before the accusations started flying de nuevo. That scene where he carried her up the stairs had me swooning enough to need carrying up some stairs myself!

Thanks again for a beautiful recap!

Elna June: Beautiful recap.

Well, Padre Anselmo asked for it. He now has a great burden to bear with the knowledge that JL is at the hacienda pretending to be the new capataz. All that after giving Montse the pep talk about her loving husband.

I just want Rosario to confirm Montse's "lie" b/c she's the only one that saw Maria all dressed up the night she helped Montse escape.

Man, you were on fire when you wrote this Elna June. I got chills reading the first paragraph. Just beautifully written the whole way through. Thank you so much.

I understand Padre Anselmo's wish to make everything hunky-dory in the marriage, but even if one "decides" to forgive, it still takes a very long time to arrive there emotionally. And Montserrat still doesn't trust Alejandro enough to make that decision.

Both the Padre and Alejandro are putting too much pressure on speedy reconciliation. But I find that very realistic.

Outsiders always underestimate the difficulty of forgiveness. And abusers (and much as I adore Alejandro, there has been abuse) are always in a hurry to put the past behind and move on. Can't blame him. But it won't work.

Still think Maria is capable of planting those undies in the capataz bungalow to frame Montserrat.

Ugh...admit that I'm like the good Padre and just want our lead couple to get together and be happy...but we've got months and months of sturm und drang before that happens.

Adriana...even though it was a "slip" I love Sacrilege of Marriage. Alas, that's what it is right now. And certainly Graciela's marriage is a sacrilege.

Elna June...again, let me tell you that this retelling of the episode was magical. So beautifully expressed, and a pleasure to read. Thank you.

Elna June, gracias amiga for this most stunning recap. You are a master storyteller and I love how your title is a succinct summation of what is to come.

Wow, what an episode! I, too, was stunned that Gracie admitted as much as she did. She can spin a yarn, that one, deftly conveying some truth while leaving out very key elements. I am impressed how Alejandro pushed her up against the wall, forcing her to reveal at least something to Monse. I think she just got her first taste at how formidable a foe he might be. However, she does have a history of crumpling a bit when someone puts the thumbscrews on her.

I felt sorry for Monse in this episode. Seems like she has her world turned upside down daily. On this day her idolized view of her One True Love did a flip flop. First the proof that he was so viciously wronged by her own mother and bro, then the news that he was involved in a murder. No wonder she is confused.

"The brazen strumpet!" Bwahahahaaa! Lila, thank you for the huge laugh. You can do a great rant; don't ever stop.

EJ, thank you for the most excellent start to my day.

Hmmm..maybe with Lila's "brazen strumpet" we can just refer to Maria as BS.

Works for me, JudyB. I'll admit I let out a big guffaw when she showed up in Monse's dainties. Daring? Yes. Sad and pathetic? YES!

I was impressed by JL's ability to climb, balance and climb some more. The guy is agile. I also liked how he gave it right back to Juventino.

Thanks, Diana. Oh this wonderful recap is going to generate a gold mind of y'all's wonderful and brainy comments! Yes, Adriana, I feel Montse is getting the sweaty one's number. Now I never saw AR and Bodas or whatever so I don't know but Sweatmeister seemed to be channeling some crazy as well as being domineering and I feel he's not reached the full blush of nuttiness! He's Montse's Maria! Lottie will pick this sh*t up real quick and help both Montse and Ale. I do hope this is not going to be like 95% of misunderstanding and only 5% lovin'!

Lila

Cap'n Sylvia, my husband is so glad I'm back to the blog, it has cut my cussin' and fussin' at the tv down a wee bit! ;D

Lila

What a beautiful telling of the tale, Elna June. I join the ever-growing chorus of your admirers in saying that your narrative voice is the voice of angels.

It is not, of course, as objective as you pretend. But through the details you present, you imply your point of view and you leave us to infer it:

Jose Luis gives Montserrat a clue to his character when he replies. “For me, it was not important that I speak to your father. What was important for me was what I felt,” he pounds his heart with his right fist, “Here!”

I must grudgingly cede a point in The Sweaty One's favor -- his taking responsibility for Lt. Avellaneda's death even though it was Robin…er…Refugio who pulled the trigger.

Did anyone else notice that Sweaty left his wrist bandana on Montserrat's balcony and she was left clutching it in the dark? [If she sniffs it, I'm outta here!]

Maybe when Alejandro gets a computer in the hacienda, he'll finally recognize José Luis from his picture on Facebook. :)

Buenos Dias!

Thanks to all who have commented this morning. It is a chilly 35* here in Sonoma County, CA. My hat is off to all of you who live in more seasonal climes.

Last night was another key episode. I have stopped using the word 'pivotal'. There have been episodes in this TN so far that could count as important in terms of advancing the story.

This ensemble of actors is pretty much knocking my socks off. We are enjoying some really fine performances in this show.

Mads, thanks for the compliment, m'dear. ITA with your comment,
'With Ale, I think she finally realizes she may, have misjudged him but she still doesn't trust him.'

I think that is just right Mads, and I love how Boyer is portraying her changing feelings. I am also glad that you think that Juventino did not seeJose Luis climb down. Nevertheless, Jose Luis' reckless and entitled trip to Montserrat's bedroom may cost her dear when Ale finds out.

I am waving a 'Heart Rosario' flag from her table on the Patio. We are serving mimosas this morning, or just fresh squeezed juice for the abstinent.

Hi, Susanlynn. I always look forward to your comments. And Maria! That woman has already passed into the realm of the crazy obsessive.

The underwear incident? Creepadelic. I want Ale to send her away, but I guess we will be stuck with her until the bitter end. Sigh.

Karen: Your comments are always astute. And you are so right about men thinking they have their obsessed stalkers under control. And you aright about Maria. We know how these things go in TNs. Thanks so much, amiga Karen, for commenting.

UA: So you think Ale eliminated the little wedding night detail from his confession to the good Father? That is a more charitable reading than just assuming (as I was doing) that Anselmo was (sweetly) manipulating Montserrat into trying to make her marriage work. I agree that Montserrat is becoming disillusioned with JL. Finding out that your ex is an accessory to murder is a bit of a shock, at least.

EJ

NovelaMaven, I also gave JL an extra credit point for not immediately whining "But I didn't shoot the guy, I just left him lying dead and abandoned on the ground, boo hoo!" He and Refu have an interesting friendship, all for one if you will.

I raised an eyebrow at the incoming computer. I had a snort at JL's ID package not including an actual photo of the perp. Surely as a marinero he had some sort of photo ID? No importa, surely when Ale gets on Facebook (snort!) he'll get things sorted out.

I totally expected Monse to sniff that rag. Urf. Juvie might not have seen JL jump off the balcony, but he definitely saw Monse so now his little cogs and sprockets are grinding away.

At first I agreed with The Patio consensus that the actor playing JL is a weak link. I'm beginning to change my mind on that point. While not exactly likable, I think the actor is doing a good job on this ambiguous character. JL still lacks avocados though. Guacamole anyone?

Thanks Elna June, great recap. Montse, the younger, is far more realistic and the stronger of the crossed lovers. Although she thinks she still loves JL, she has decided to take the high road and fulfill her promise to her marriage. One does not fall out of love quickly, but she being stronger and less self-centered has decided to emotionally move on and try to control her sentiments. JL on the other hand, is excellently playing a man driven and consumed by emotions, without regard to how it may hurt others, and without regard to human costs. He is desperate, emotional, blinded by what he wants, and less controlled than Montse. This is the trait that will (I think) eventually poison Montse's love for him.
Writers tend to portray women as the weaker, emotional partner. In this case, the tables are turned. Nice twist.

Yola

Thanks for the great recap. Such fun. First time posting here ... I am loving this novela. Reminds me of the good, old novelas I watched in Brasil growing up in the 60s.

I'm with the Padre on the total Alejandro love. I cannot imagine, truly, having that man anywhere near me and being able to resist for even an instant! A bit of a haircut would be even better. Guapissimo!

AB did a wonderful job of conveying MonMon's wavering feelings where JL is concerned. It's clear that she's falling, finally, for the true galan. And the more desperate JL becomes, the more she will pull away. Love how perverse and spoiled she is and all the touches the actress brings to show this. Her quirky little doll walk is priceless. Constant tossing of the hair also amusing.

My namesake's obsession is painful to watch. And her dreadful uncle is actually rather handsome in some shots -- a Charles Bronson vibe.

Love Rosario also -- Looking forward to that reveal. Anyway, many thanks.

This novela definitely has it going on, old school, and I love that about it. Love that most everyone is flawed.

Oooh... a Charles Bronson vibe. There was a tough guy! At least in the roles he played. Did you ever see "Passajer en la Pluie"? Maria? One haunting movie. Glad you're really enjoying this. So are we all. I think, anyway?

All opposed, say "no".

Well, I just got an email from a friend asking if I was ready for the holidays , and I sent back one letting her know that I have decided that I will never be ready,.....for anything......ever....I am sitting on the snowy Patio of Lowered Expectations. I have decided to retreat from gift wrapping, cooking, and cleaning for awhile and just hang out here reading recaps and comments for awhile. I am weary.

I am guessing that being a country girl with no way of getting to a Victoria's Secret, Maria felt the need for some cute undies to finally catch Ale's ...er......eye...and realized that the only person who might own such undies was Monymony. The scene reminded me of Bridget Jones's lament about wearing granny panties. You have to admit that the girl is nervy. ...not smart...but nervy.

Ale knows how to push Gracie's buttons, It was satisfying to see someone make her feel uncomfortable for a change.

Diana: Hola! ITA that Jose Luis is reckless and dangerous. I also hated the way he pushed Montse back on the sofa in her room when he announced that they were not done talking. Not-good-husband-material Montserrat. Go ahead, Montse! Follow Susanlynn and Diana's sage advice—push JL's 'sweaty self' away.

Lila: So nice to see you! Like you, I was truly surprised that Graciela revealed so much of the truth to her daughter and son-in-law. This early reveal is keeping the story very exciting.

I still wonder how the writers will maintain some suspense during the inevitable doldrums associated with a super-long TN.

Adriana Noel: I am so glad you enjoyed the recap. You said,

"So now padre will know all kind of secrets, Rosario's, Montse's... what's a padre to do to fix everything? I think he's a little blind to Ale's temper tantrums because he sees him almost like a son."

I have always thought that the job of a priest was particularly hard. I am sure Anselmo is indeed blind to Ale's flaws AND he has to be a cheerleader for an ancient and sacramental institution in the 21st century. Tough work.

Jarifa: Thanks so much for commenting. Like you, I LOVED the scene at the Mendoza family dinner table. In that scene we had just a hint of the ruthlessness and toughness that makes Alejandro a flawed galan.

Elna June

Maria de A...I enjoyed your observations. I agree that the actor playing Juvie has a Charles Bronson vibe. My mother used to describe that type of guy as "ugly handsome." She was a fan of Dean Martin.

JL is definitely a tragic figure who is his own worst enemy. Like Maria, he is not strong in common sense, but then , most telenovela characters are lacking in the common sense department.

Hi Maria de Andrade, I'm not a novela or Caray vet but I welcome you! I've watched a few newer Brazilian novelas, is there a web site like this one to read recaps and discuss. I know this is off topic so if you like you may email me at nwanyi@comcast.net. Thanks either way!

Lila

Beautifully, written. Thank you. :)

I had to reply the dinner scene again. It was sheer perfection on Ale's part. He's got his street smarts on.

Like Adriana Noel,I was also thinking that Headbandless Maria was going to do some voodoo magic on the undies. This one has no boundaries.

Fatima

OY. So many typos on my previous post. There should be no comma after "beautifully" and it was "replay" and not "reply".

Fatima, who saw the mistakes just as she hit "send".

Elna June - Thanks for a beautiful recap. Loved every word.

Sweaty face does need to give it up, but I do like him and his climbing abilities. I'm glad Montse pointed out that all this wouldn't have happened if he had stepped up to her father. But to me JL showed his character when he admitted he had blood on his hands, even though we know Refugio killed the officer. JL and Ale would be best buds if not for Montse. Both are good but flawed, like most.

Montse's got another moral dilemma. Does she go to the authorities about the true murderer of Bruno Gamboa? That would clear one strike against JL. If she went to the authorities, she would find out about the gun planted in JL's room and realize the deliberate frame-up. Or does she keep silent to protect her pop from another heart attack? Lauro already knows his son is a good-for-nothing -- maybe he could handle this news. It doesn't seem fair for JL to be on the run for the rest of his life.

Maria was a true skank last night, but it was a great excuse for Viewerville to see Ale's naked torso. Kudos to the camera people.

EJ--for a few minutes there, I thought we had a new recapper and a new style. You are multi-faceted, to say the least. Bravo for a wonderful tale.

I seem to recall Gracie daring Alejo to tell her secret to Lauro. We..and she...thought Alejo would cave, but he didn't. That really caught me by surprise. Cute how Tia Carlota was really into the story.

I hope Montse got a good look at how Pedro yanked Nadia away in mid-sentence. What a cad.

About the underwear. At first, in the search scene, I hadn't a clue as to what Maria was looking for or why. She kept opening drawers and rummaging around. When she pulled out the bra and panties, weren't they bunched together in Montse's bedside table? Call me over-organized, but I keep each type of underwear stacked with other like-thinggys in a dresser. One look at Montse and I would have believed she'd do the same. Ni modo, my point is that if I were Montse, I'd note the next day that stuff had been messed with and maybe her favorite set of underwear missing. It would have been a great opportunity for the writers to use for a Montse-Rosario moment.

I got into the weeds because everything I might have commented on has already been covered, brilliantly by others.

EJ: loved the recap. All you recappers have your own great style. I love the mix.

Seems to me that Mons wants to make the best of the situation she finds herself in. She wants to do the right thing. She wants to “protect” her family, but I also think, be true to her vows. She also wants a little peace to assimilate everything that has happened to her. JL pushing her will be the end of him. She’s already attracted to Ale. If Ale can keep himself from strong-arming her and take the Padre’s advice and begin wooing his wife, JL would quickly fade from her heart.

Nanette

Sylvia, a tiny point of clarification:

"Surely as a marinero he had some sort of photo ID?"

It was the navy captain and old friend of Lauro (Robledo?) who decided to keep the civilian police force out of the whole JL/R business. Undoubtedly, the navy has photos of these two but has gone to great pains to keep them out of Pedro's hands.

Why? We can assume a combination of rivalry between the military and civilian forces, pressure from Graciela to keep things as quiet as possible, and maybe (though this is just a guess) the captain's suspicions about Pedro's (dis)honesty.

It is the navy's closing ranks around the scandalous behavior of their own men that has, ironically, shielded these guys and allowed them to move about undetected.

I have to think that if Alejandro did fess up to the padre about the wedding night he wouldn't have been so quick to tell Monserrat to work on her marriage.

Makes me wonder whether a younger priest would handled this any differently whether knowing about this or not.

I hope Monserrat notices that this underwear is missing and says something. Rosario would definitely suspect Maria immediately and might say something to Alejandro.

And Maria de Andrade, I think Sebastian Rulli's present haircut is perfect. I just wish he'd make up his mind to grow a beard or shave. That 5 o'clock shadow thing annoys me.

Julia Rold: to be compared to a Bronte biographer and social commenter like Gaskell! Well, I blush. And I thank you very much.

That stair climbing scene was so romantic even I had to draw breath. I cannot understand why no partner ever carried me up an ancient stone staircase into a Hacienda.

Quite an oversight on the part of my DH, I have to say. Hrrumph.

Pasofino: Thank you for your kind words. Yes, ITA. Padre Anselmo's timing is a leetle off in this capitulo. Smile.

JoseAngel: Thanks for commenting. Yes, Rosario already holds many secrets, doesn't she?

JudyB, amiga mia: I hope your trials and tribulations in your remodeling projects are over. Such a stressful thing to go through. I loved this thoughtful comment:

'And abusers (and much as I adore Alejandro, there has been abuse) are always in a hurry to put the past behind and move on. Can't blame him. But it won't work.

That is so wise, Judy, so right on. When we make terrible mistakes most of us want to receive forgiveness, feel a little bad and move smartly along. It is so painful to deal with the long-term consequences of our actions. Ale's got a long way to go to win trust, doesn't he?

aci1970: Great comment about how 'Robo' follows the Bodas de Odio storyline more closely than that of Amor Real. I have not seen 'Bodas' but it is nice to know that it is on You Tube. Thanks for dropping by to comment.

EJ

Yola: didn't read your comment before posting mine. You said it so much better.

Maria: welcome. I, too, think Juvie is handsome in a non-traditional sort of way.

UA: count me in the anti-five o'clock shadow group. It's such a messy, dirty look to me.

NovelaMaven, you are so right about Navy closing ranks against the civilian police force. I had overlooked that very important detail. Gracias amiga.

Thanks for the welcoming words and, yes, I will email you separately, nwanyi, about as novelas brasileiras. I feel like a traitor because I have tried recently to get into what TV Globo currently has on tap and just can't get into any of them. Perhaps a better crop will come along. A good novela for me is one in which you can get the picture within an episode or two. Like any good fairytale, you want those archetypes in place.

Will also look up Passajer en la Pluie -- Thank you! Truth be told, Juventino looks a good bit like my husband.

What the Padre and Rosario seem to understand is that that these seeming knuckeheads are young people who are being driven mad by love and lust and can't really be counted on, under the extreme circumstances, to behave too terribly well. Love maddens and they are under the grip. Ale is for me all the things the priest says he is -- but he's consumed and miserable and totally totally frustrated -- mad and sad. Delicious. Monteserrat is made of sterner stuff than I am for sure!

For the rest, I hope the beautiful Josefina is given a total make-over and that Dimitrio is able to see how gorgeous she truly is. If he can view much of anything from under his curly curly bangs.

Sorry so long ... Have had no one to talk to about this one. And, oh yeah, the theme song is absolutely killer!

Maria: love the theme song, too. I'd like to see Dim start falling for Fina BEFORE she has her makeover (not a spoiler--I think we're all expecting the makeover).

"Jose Luis gives Montserrat a clue to his character when he replies. “For me, it was not important that I speak to your father. What was important for me was what I felt,” he pounds his heart with his right fist, “Here!”

Excellent description about JL's character. I thought it was kind funny when he starting beating on his chest during that scene. I don't think it was meant to be funny but I thought it was hilarious.

I think it's amazing that a spoiled 19 year old girl is more mature than a veteran navy man.

I would put this in the time change schedule thread but you might not see it. So hopefully the admins will see this. Qué Pobres Tan Ricos will premiere on January at 10pm. So looks like LQLVMR will back to just their regular schedule from 9-10.

Nanette, especially since she has been raised pretty much in a bubble.

Maria, welcome to The Patio (of Lowered Expectations). We are so glad to have you join us.

GG23, thank goodness! Those 2-hour episodes are grueling on the recappers.

Elna June, loved your flowing narrative. It carried me along as I relived last night's episode.

Maria undoubtedly expected Ale would be instantly overcome with her revealed beauty and her stylish "ropa de interior." She doesn't know him as well as she thinks she does. Her imagination is limited.

Montse and the sweaty kerchief of JL's? Ewww! Interesting to me that Montse said she wanted "peace." She won't get that on the road with JL, running and hiding. Now that's the type of role where Maria could excel.

Montse, if she truly learns to manage the house, can make a comfortable life for Ale and assist him as a landowner. She can entertain herself and look after the well-being of the hacienda inhabitants, becoming a better woman than her mother.

Sylvia: exactly!

I also think that JL thinks of Mons as a possession. He doesn't want anyone else to play with his toy.

Hey Patio people. I am currently out of the country and I was wondering if some kind person could send me a link for tn viewing outside of the US. Just click on my name and my e-mail will appear and thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks, Elna June! I loved the style. Direct, but literary, and very enjoyable.

Also, thank you NovelaMaven for the explanation of why photos of the fugitives hadn't been circulated in public or to the civilian police. My beanie had been working overtime on that one.

I loved how coolly Ale played games with Graceless, but I wish he's be more patient with Money. He's so pushy. "Are we all good now? Now? How about now?" Does he really think she's going to instantly get over her old crush and fall in love with him the second she has better information? He needs to give her some time to process it, and work on charming her and let her feelings change.

Maria is just something else. I loved how Ale shut that down, but was disappointed he didn't send her off to town immediately, or at least to the servants' quarters, instead of that wimpy "if this happens again" nonsense. I'm excited for Montse to take charge of the house and redecorate it. That will really irk Maria.

I can't believe the hacienda doesn't have a dedicated undies hotline. Even in Fuego en la Sangre, where there were no other phones, the village had a dedicated Emergency Lingerie Line.

Welcome Maria!!

When my speaking class was discussing New Year traditions, my Mexican student told us that in Mexico wearing yellow undies is supposed to bring you luck. Maria obviously forgot this tradition. Time for her to make that trip to Victoria's secret for the right color so that she can get lucky with Ale.

La Paloma..."Her imagination is limited." You are too kind.

Elna June, the other day we were talking about "Gone with the Wind", and Ale effortlessly striding up those steep stairs carrying Monymony made me think of Rhett carrying Scarlett upstairs.

Do we know why perpetually scowling Pedro is so hot to buy land from Ale ? I am worried about what he might do to Ale to get that land.

favorite line : " JL comes out of the closet." Elna June, you sly one.

Thanks for the recap Elena June. I know how to spell you name, but spell check keeps correcting it to Elena. Sorry.

Ok so I didn't watch this episode, but was totally disgusted when Maria wore Monseratt's. Also didn't Juvenito steal a pair of her white panties and sniff them when he was rolling around in her bed? What is up with that family?

DAY 22 in captivity: STILL NO PREPOSITIONS!

Ps. Cynderella wrote the previous comment. I hate auto-correct.

Ale needs to send Maria to work in town ASAP. Out on the hacienda, with few prospects, of course she's going to keep obsessing over Ale. Maybe, just maybe, she could now get distracted with JL and Refugio around, but in town, she wouldn't have Ale access, and she could see that there are a lot more prospects of the manly type in the world. Hey, maybe she could take Pedro off Nadia's hands. They'd be well matched, morally speaking.

Just wondering and will stop with my new obsession for the day -- underwear folding, not donning, awaits me! -- Has the audience been told how long the affair between Graciela and the Big Bad Hacienda Owner went on? Would Ale not be asking himself if Mon is perhaps his half-sister? That beautiful head might explode ...

JudyB: Looked up Passager de la Pluie -- Many thanks for the tip.

Cynderella....well...hmmm...Ale did carry Monymony UP the stairs and JL was IN the closet and Maria is getting ON my last nerve and Gracie was looking UNDER the weather when Ale was baiting her----Susanlynn, trying to help

I'm still scratching my head of the lack of telephones in FELS.

What I neglected to say before is that with JL's impulsive nature and his bad choices he wouldn't be officer material and Lauro might not have approved of him after all.

I always thought it was a little odd and not completely fair that Montse wanted JL to go announce himself to her father, all out of the blue and everything. She is the one with the relationship with her father...why couldn't she have said, "Papa, I'm seeing someone, and I'd like you to meet him" and then asked JL over? But his total wishy washiness about it was pathetic. He'd get to the door, then run and hide when anyone else was around. Not very mature or confident.

Maria...the film has got some disturbing moments.I was haunted by it...and not exactly in a good way. But when Charles Bronson slowly takes off his shirt...well, you get my drift. And he was the strong, capable hombre who saved our injured damsel.

And aren't you lucky to have a husband who looks a bit like Juventino! Enjoy...

Maybe Alejandro should have left his shirt off after dealing with Maria instead of putting his jammies on to go back to talk to Montserrat.

I certainly would have appreciated that!

EJ- I'm late to the party, and our amigos here have already said it all. But I did want to say thank you for this wonderful recap. :)

Maria - we chatted about the fact that Monse and Ale could be half-siblings yesterday or the day before and were creeped out. We know the affair b/t Graceless and Benjamin, Ale's father, went on for many years but it could have been after Monse was born.

Dear Amiga Sylvia:
I am so glad you enjoyed the recap. You are, after all, my mentor in all things Caray Caray, and little is sweeter than praise from a teacher. I (dare I say we?) SO miss recapping with you.

Yep, that was a head twister of an epi. During Graciela's great but not complete reveal I felt like I was watching a tennis match.

JudyB, Lila and Sylvia: An equation for you:

M = (B+S) x C
(Maria equals brazen plus strumpet x crazy. Hee hee)

EJ

By Jove, that's brilliant! And I'm flattered!

;D Lila

My Dear Novela Maven:

Thank you for the kind words, amiga. You are a master writer and recapper and your grasp of snark!—Well; I use no hyperbole when I describe your snarkliciousness as, GIFTED.

Welcome, Maria de A.

Susanlynn: You keep your chin up, sister. We are all walking with you. The Holidays are ROUGH for many people.

And you know me so well. Objective I am not. But I thought I would try to give it a shot. Hee hee. Glad my inferences were not too obvious.

Yola: Thanks for your comment. ITA, Jose Luis is far emotionally weaker than Montserrat.

Maria de A: So glad you are joining us. Yes, we have no perfect persons in this novela. Even our dear Father Anselmo has his blind spots.

Fatima: I am glad you enjoyed the recap. As to typos, you do not need to apologize here!

Niecie in MD: I am delighted that you enjoyed the recap. You have made a GREAT point here; what should Montse do with the information she has about Bruno Gamboa. From a strategic position she should probably keep it as a strong weapon in her arsenal against her family—if Jose Luis gets out of the country clean. But this certainly compromises her morally...

Anita! Amiga, I am so glad you have caught up with us. Alas, I am not a new recapper, just your old friend EJ, speaking with a different voice. Hee hee. So many voices in my head, so little time...

Ahem, as to your underwear drawers, congratulations, first of all, on your organization. I never even CONSIDERED this point about Montse+Maria and the case of the missing 'drawers'. Nice catch. If I was Montserrat and I found out about what happened to my fav black and white panty set, I would fire Maria's A$$ets right out of Campeche. I shudder at the thought of such an invasion of privacy, lack of boudaries and creepy stalker behavior. If you don't have nice underthings to entice a potential seductee, naked wil do just fine.

Nanette: So glad you enjoyed the recap.

NM & Sylvia: I think you and Sylvia are right about the Navy keeping key ID info (like a driver's license or Navy ID) to themselves. JL on Facebook made me LOL. It is so obvious.

EJ

Julia: Thanks for your comment. I share your appreciation of NM and Sylvia's sleuthing out the reasons for JL's missing ID photos. The identikit image put together by Nadia could represent about half the men in Mexico.(Shout out to Julia Rold.)

GG23: Thanks for the comment. Looks like we agree on JL's personality.

Hi, Cynderella! Auto spell check, $%^^&&^ grumble. I am sorry, I missed the story about prepositions? Fill me in?

La Paloma: So glad you enjoyed the recap. Thanks for writing to say so. Did I just see that you have reached the end of the very long CI? Are congratulations or condolences in order? Will you recap the new comedy?

UA: you are right about JL being a poor officer candidate. With his impulse control problems he should probably be gently release from any proximity to torpedoes, guns and other artillery.

EJ

Thanks, Vivi! Great to see you.

EJ

Adriana, it IS a sacrilege of a marriage. Even priests annul marriages that begin with lies and an unwilling/coerced partner. That was a brilliant typo, LOL!

That was lovely EJ! thanks!

EJ. In Amores Verdaderos, during the love scene between Jose Angel and Miss Vicky, he literally tossed around the room and violated her on every possible service you can think of. He was wonderfully agressive. It started on the desk, on the floor, in a chair against the wall, in the bed, on the porch, in the window sill. He was a flickin' beast! Susanlynn said that she might use the list for her class. Then she decided she might keep the list for herself. She's a perve. Lol!

HEY...standing right here...I heard that !!!!, anonymous9.37 !!!!!!

EJ, I may have helped lure you into recapping but you most definitely have your own voice and your talents, if I may so most humbly, far exceed those of your "mentor". I couldn't be prouder.

Thank you for the only mathematical equation I have ever solved without a calculator, LOL!!

Actually, NM is the sleuth, but I am more than happy to ride along on her bandwagon. (I was going to say coattails but we have already had for too much borrowing of clothing here, don't you think?)

It's the first day of winter, so downhill from here. I hope you all have a pleasant day.

Julia B -- I agree that Mons should have broached the subject of JL with her Papito before bringing him over to talk to the old man. She didn't exactly step up to the plate either. The young love crowd seems driven by impulses and stop signs that they don't fully recognize and can't or won't admit to.

There is an underlying class theme in all this too. Mons puts all these guys through hoops to win her -- She flirts and teases and gives into kisses and embraces and then plays high princess, setting goals and tasks. And both of these fellows, JL and Ale, are not of her class. She is more than aware of this, as are they, and all three keep playing the game. LOVE it!

Ale missed a prime opportunity last night to say, Hey, So happy to hear you are interested in running OUR household. This is wonderful news!

Instead, poor sad devil, he goes straight into Hoping to Get Laid mode, which gives his wife yet another opportunity to say, What are you talking about? She can't admit that she wants to hop into bed with him and that beyond wanting to set the menu for the day, she's jealous of the pathetic Maria.

Daniela Castro looks and sounds SO much like the American actress who has played Jill on Young and the Restless for decades. Uncanny.

Thanks too for setting me straight on the possible incest theme ... I missed that discussion.
