Lo Que la Vida Me Robo, December 9, 2013. Capitulo 15.

JL is depressed that Montse did not show up. Refugio pleads with JL to head to his friend's house so that they can cross the border. They can no longer stay in Aguazul. He needs to forget about Montse. She is now married to another man. Perhaps she changed her mind and that's why she didn't show up as planned. JL swears that Montse loves him and that her family obligated her to marry another man. Refugio doesn't believe that things happened that way. JL insists it's the truth. They hired a woman to pretend to be his girlfriend and say awful things to Montse about him. Esme is like “Oh, crap! Is that me? JL wants to go and find her. Refugio tries to detain him, but JL yells at him to let him go. Esme asks Refugio JL's last name and confirms that he was the one that she was hired to lie about. Why asks Refugio. No reason, just curious replies Esme.

Ale nd Montse walk into the house, Montse looking bored. In walks creepy Juvie and tells Ale his bags are in his room. Montse tells Ale that she wants to wash up and take a nap. Dominga comes in and greets Ale warmly. She gets introduced to his wife. She asks if there hungry and goes to finish preparing the meal. Montse asks like a snob and makes a comment about how everyone speaks to him informally. Ale reminds her that they now live in the country and things are more simple here. She wants to know where her bedroom is. Ale shows her the way.

Nadia is in her garden when JL sneaks up on her, covers her mouth and drags her to a more secluded spot to talk. He tells her he won't to anything to her. She is the only one that can help him locate Montse.

One of Pedro's men tells him that the men they brought in where not JL or Refugio. Pedro gets angry and reiterates that he wants JL and Refugio before the Mariners find him.

Nadia warns JL to stay away. She knows that he is a murderer and the police are looking for him. JL says he's innocent. He was accused of a murder he didn't commit. They locked him up in a cell where he couldn't communicate with anyone. They wanted to kill him. Nadia tells him he's wasting his time. She will not help him locate and drag Montse away by force. JL reminds her that Montse wants to be with him. Remember, we were going to run away together yesterday. The only reason we didn't was because her family found out and detained her. Is this what you want for your friend? Married to a man that bought her and and tied to someone she doesn't love?

Ale shows Montse to her room where she starts feeling sorry for herself.

JL pleads with Nadia. All he wants to do is love Montse. Nadia says she doesn't want Montse to suffer the way she is. Trapped in a marriage she doesn't want. JL pleads again with her. He wants the name and address of Montse's husband. He bets. Nadia says his name is Alejandro Almonte. They were going to Europe but it got canceled. I don't know where he took her.

Nadia calls Gracie and inquiries about Montse's whereabouts. Gracie lies and says Ale took Montse to his hacienda in Michoacan. She doesn't have the number or address, but as soon as she gets it, she'll pass it along. Carlotta asks Gracie why she lied to Nadia. Because I believe Nadia is her accomplice replies Gracie. I did it so that my daughter's marriage will not be in jeopardy. So don't question me again.

Juvie is in his room flinging things around, angry. He's angry that Gracie couldn't get any money from Benjamin so she married her daughter off to Ale. He takes out a whip and hits his pillow with it. He goes thru his nightstand and pulls out a picture of Ale and starts to stab it. He swears to take everything away from him. The hacienda, the lands and his beautiful wife.

Back at the strip club, Esme is giving lessons in pole dancing/stripping. One of the other stripper ladies interrupts the lesson and asks Esme what her boyfriend said when she told him she was the one that went to Montse with the lies. Esme admits she couldn't do it. She was just to ashamed. The stripper lady reminds her all this happened before she met her boyfriend. She was just trying to earn a little extra money. Esme is just scared that her man will get mad at her. She is so in love. Her stripper friend advises her to help him find his friend's girlfriend. How asks Esme. By getting the information from Dim replies the stripper friend.

Speaking of Dim, he's paying a visit to Josefina. She comments on the beautiful wedding although asks why no dancing? She would have loved to have danced with him. Nothing would have pleased me more replies Dim. She tells Dim that she had a long talk with his mother. Did she not mention it? Did I make a good impression? Of course you did lies Dim. She even told me “dichoso aquel que es dueno de tu corazon” which means “blessed is he who is the owner of your heart”. And you know what asks Dim. I totally agree with her. Dim's phone rings and it's Esme trying to butter him up. She apologizes for the other day and asks him to come over. Dim hurriedly says good-bye to Josefina and rushes out the door.

Back at the hacienda, the shower is running and Pervie Juvie sneaks into Montse's room. He goes to the bathroom door but decides instead to jump on the bed. He looks thru the nightstand and finds a watch. He puts it on and there's a knock on the door and he hurriedly hides. Ale enters and heads to the bathroom where he hears the shower running. Juvie makes his exit. Ale is memorized at the silhouette of Montse and starts to unbutton his shirt. Montse is showering and Ale decides to join her. They share a passionate, steamy kiss. Then he wakes up from his daydream and leaves the bathroom. Montse hears the door close and takes a peek out.

Juvie asks Maria and Dominga what they think of the new wife. Maria thinks she's a little hoity toity and probably doesn't do anything all day. But if the wife thinks that she is going to be her lady in waiting, then she's got another thing coming. Maria doesn't understand why Ale didn't tell them he was going to marry her. Dominga says enough! Ale doesn't have to tell them why he does what he does. Maria doesn't understand why he had to marry one of those type of women. Ale comes in and Dominga tells him to sit down so that she can serve his dinner. Maria rudely suggests that perhaps he would prefer dining in the dining room. She doubts that his little “wifey” would enjoy dining in the kitchen with the employees. Ale assures them that nothing will change.

JL comes home and tells Refugio that he found out Montse's husband's name is Alejandro Almonte and that he took her to Michoacan. But that's far replies Refugio. JL knows but he wants to go and get his woman. Refugio asks him what's the plan? Just walk up to the house and say I've come to take your wife? I bet that Almonte has the house watched just in case you show up. JL is not listening and wants to leave tonight. The only way he will leave Montse alone is if he is dead.

Dominga tells Montse there is not a lot of servants in the main house. If she would like she could contract more. But if she needs help now, she can send Maria to lay out her clothes. Montse says it isn't necessary and tells her to leave. Dominga offers to send up some food, but Montse declines. Montse then inquires about her husband. Dominga says he's out drinking a cup of coffee in the terrace. Would you like me to deliver a message? Montse declines. Dominga leaves and Montse locks the door behind her.

Refugio admits to JL that he is in love with Esme. JL asks if he understands what Esme's job/lifestyle is like. Refugio says he doesn't care because she doesn't care about his. He told her everything. Why asks JL? Because I trust her and couldn't keep lying to her replies Refugio. She accepts me as I am and that is why I am taking her with me. JL asks Refugio if he knows the danger he is putting her in. Of course shouts Refugio. That is why after we get to Michoacan, she and I are heading north. JL says he's grateful for everything that Refugio did for him. It just sucks that he will have to be on the run for the rest of his life. Refugio doesn't regret anything he did. You are my friend, my brother. I now understand what you would do for the woman you love. JL wishes him well. Refugio will give him the information of his friend in case he also wants to head north.

Ale tells Juvie that he will be hiring a new Capataz. Juvie assumed that he would take over his brothers job now that he's gone. Ale admits that he doesn't trust Juvie and prefers to trust a stranger then him. Juvie gets ugly and reminds him while he was somewhere else looking for a wife, he and his brother were taking care of the hacienda. Ale stands up and tells Juvie that until he proves his worth, he will continue to be a peon at the hacienda. Understand? The only reason I have not let you go is because you are Maria's uncle.

Montse is in her room thinking about JL. Remembers promising they will love each other forever.

Maria brings more coffee out to Ale. He asks her to join him. That is what your wife is for replies Maria. Ale orders Maria to sit. Just because I am married does not mean that our friendship will end. Well, you should have told us what was going on replies Maria. Ale agrees that he should have. Please forgive me. Do you love her asks Maria. She is my wife replies Ale. Maria starts crying. What is going to happen to me now? I have no one. You have your uncle replies Ale. But he doesn't love me replies Maria. But you also have me says Ale. Why did you get married? Why? Answer me, pleads Maria. Ale reminds her that he always told her he only saw her as a friend, a sister. Maria runs off.

Dim pays Esme a visit. He wants to know what she wants. The other day she treated him very badly. She admits that she was very angry with him. She kisses him and says everything turned out the way he wanted it to. His sister ended up marrying Almonte and forgot all about JL. During this exchange Refugio overhears at the door. She tells Dim how much she likes him and how much she misses him. Dim inquires about her boyfriend, but Esme says he can't compare to you. Refugio walks away in despair. Esme wants to know how the wedding went. Dim admits it was boring until Ale found out that Montse is in love with another. He canceled the honeymoon and took her to his hacienda to live. They continue making out and Esme keeps grilling him. Dim admits that the hacienda is only 3 hours away. He's tired of talking and wants to get busy. Esme suddenly remembers that she has to pick up her costume? for the evening.

Padre Anselmo arrives on his burro to the hacienda. He finds out that Ale has finally returned home. He enters excitedly calling for Ale. They embrace. Padre wants to know all about Aguazul. Ale says the plant is very big and prosperous. He left Victor in charge. Padre asks how the upper class received him? Ale replies that he really didn't know anyone, but one thing he found out. People with money aren't necessarily the nicest. They will even kill for just a few extra dollars. Why do you say that asks Padre. Did they treat you bad? Did they make you feel less worthy because you were the illegitimate son of Benjamin? No, replies Ale. No one knew that. Well hardly anyone. He finally says he got married. Padre Anselmo is shocked. What? You got married he asks. When? In Aguazul? In a hurry? Talk and explain yourself? Where is your woman? And why wasn't I the one to marry you? Ale tells him to calm down. His wife is currently resting after their long journey and the reason he didn't tell him before is because he didn't want his wife's family to treat him bad. Padre can read Ale and senses something is wrong. He doesn't look like a man happily married. Ale says it's a sad story and I am to ashamed to tell it to you. It all started because of me. I was just a peon with no money or family. I use to be sickened by the way the Patron acted. And now I find myself his son and I acted the same way. I bought myself a wife. Padre Anselmo asks him if he has lost his mind. Ale says his wife is a fine woman with class. Very pretty and from a good family. She appears like an angel on the outside. But inside, she is a fake, a liar, a hypocrite and a traitor. While Ale is saying this, Montse walks up and hears his rant He turns around and sees her come into the room. He tells her to come in, they were just talking about her. Padre gives Montse a warm welcome.

Dominga tells Maria that she thinks Montse will be a good Patrona and besides she' very pretty. Maria disagrees. Dominga points out that she's just saying that to be ugly. You should never have set your sights on Ale especially after he became Don Benjamin's heir. Your father warned you several times. Now that he is the owner of all this, he would want a woman in the same league as him. Maria doesn't think that Ale would be happy with a woman like Montse. Do you think that she will get up early to help take care of the hacienda? Dominga reminds her that not all women have to do that to keep a man happy.

Refugio tells JL that he will be leaving with him tonight.

Ale tells Padre that if the police will not watch the country roads and stop all this assaults then he will. Montse notices she's sitting to close to Ale on the couch and scoots over. Padre says the assailants are disrespectful and don't care about anyone. Ale promises to do what he can. Padre takes his leave. He has to return to the community. Montse asks him what community? A poor indigenous community. I do what I can there. Ale offers to send Juvie with him for protection. Padre declines. I have nothing that they can steal from me. He tells Montse that every Sunday he gives mass at the hacienda chapel. I tell in case you one day want to talk to me. Ale escorts him out and Montse doesn't know what to do with herself. Up and down on the couch she goes until finally she decides to leave. Ale comes back looking for her and follows behind her. As Montse is closing the door, Ale pushes his way in. Aren't you going to eat dinner? You haven't eaten all day. I'm not hungry replies Montse. I just want to go to bed and sleep. Ale reminds her that it's still to early to retire. Montse doesn't have the desire to do anything else. Fine replies Ale. Let's go to bed and proceeds to take off his shirt. What are you doing shouts Montse. Up until now, you have not wanted to listen to me replies Ale. There is one thing that you cannot change. We are now married. Yes, but you know I feel nothing for you replies Montse. Yes, I remember you telling me that I repulsed you replies Ale. I also remember you telling me when I kiss you or caress you, you will be thinking of your Jose Luis. But guess what? I don't care. If you let yourself be sold and bought, it wasn't to be a pretty figurine in my home. But to give me kids and a family. He grabs her off the bed and says that he has completed his part of the bargain. I saved your family from ruin and now it's your turn complete your side. He forcibly kisses her.

Manana: More Montse and JL in the bedroom; Refugio and JL go over a cliff?

Thank you Gloria. This is a superb recap of a pivotal episode. I had to laugh when Ale and Monse arrived at the hacienda and she struggled to climb the stone steps in her stupid shoes. Her high heels aren't going to work so well around the ranch.

Darn, it didn't take long for Refugio and Esme to wade into the quagmire of misunderstanding. Why don't people just TALK to each other? I know, I know...

It's interesting that Monse and Alejandro are having similar experiences dealing with their mutual "families". Ale walked into a snake pit when he hooked up with Monse's family. By the same token, she really doesn't know what she's getting into with Ale's staff/friends. Padre and Dominga seem to like her, but Maria's no friend and I shudder to think of Juvie's plans for her.

Thanks Gloria! This is an excellent recap and I appreciate the great details. They are very helpful.

I forgot to thank you for putting the recap up so quickly. I enjoyed reading along and getting your perspective while the show was airing.

Gloria:

Thanks so much for this fabulous recap! I too laughed when Monse and Ale got to the hacienda. I thought she lost her fan, and was too afraid to go back and look for it.

If I were Refugio I would have misunderstood too. I hope that Esme gets back home in time to tell Refugio all she found out.

I don't like Maria right now. Ale told her twice that she is only a friend, like a sister to him, yet she keeps asking, why did you get married. She needs to clean her ears with a Q tip, she must have a bunch of wax up in those ears! I feel sorry for Monse cause I think Maria will be nasty to her.

Juvie is a real perv. I can't stand him, stabbing Ale's picture, sneaking in Monse's bedroom and thank goodness Ale came when he did! I bet, not a spoiler, that Juvie is the head bandito in those parts. I am glad the Padre turned down Ale's offer of Juvie being his escort. I am also glad that Juvie will not be the Capataz of the hacienda. Oh, and now Juvie has jacked a watch. Let's see, Don Benny's ring, Gaspar's medallion and now Ale's watch? I'm keeping count of all the Bloody Baubles he is stealing.

JL is a dunce for sure. He scared poor Nadia half to death. I really think she only helped JL out because she thought of her own loveless marriage. He is the same as Ale in a way, wanting to drag Monse off to parts unknown.

Ale was hawt in that daydream shower, I must say, sigh!

Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow night with this "end of Monse's bargain", Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

UGH! JL is so NOT hot! He was totally gross and unappealing when he returned from talking to Nadia, sweating profusely for no apparent reason. And he looked so dirty and nasty, with stains all over his shirt. My daughter was passing through the room as he came on screen and remarked, "Eww, he looks like he smells! And he over-acts." I have to agree with her. Also, he had a really insane look in his eyes when he was questioning Nadia.

I had to laugh when Juvie was committing pillowcide! That was hilarious to me. You could see the dust flying!

I haven't developed any sympathy or empathy for Jose Luis and if he does go over a cliff as the avances seem to show, I won't even feel bad for him.

Gloria, a real masterpiece. Your recap was riveting, I devourved every word. I love your straightforward style, always with purpose and very well written. You are an excellent recapper.

My, there was a lot of sweating last night! Juvie, Refugio and JL were perspiring endlessly. As you noted Gloria "creepy Juvie" was at his loathsome worst last night -pillowcide (good one Anon) included. However, may I make a request? Please, let us not have to endure another scene of Juvie eating/molesting fruit? I fear barnyard animals have better manners.

"If you let yourself be sold and bought, it wasn't to be a pretty figurine in my home. But to give me kids and a family. He grabs her off the bed and says that he has completed his part of the bargain". To say I am dismayed with Ale is an understatement. Let's hope he does not force himself on Monse.

Sylvia: "Darn, it didn't take long for Refugio and Esme to wade into the quagmire of misunderstanding" was a gem. Is it fruitless to hope they will be able to rectify this before the car plunges over the cliff (from the previews, not a spoiler).

Maria is a pest - ITA Madelaine. She is obsessed and not going to let things go with Ale even though he has told her repeatedly he feels like a brother to her only.

I did enjoy Monse's high heeled ascent to the house and Esme toying with Dimwit. If only Esme had told Refugio her plan before she put it into motion.

I'm looking forward to tonight with a little trepidation - but this is sailing right along and am thoroughly enjoying it.

Thanks again Gloria!

Diana

Excellent recap, Gloria!

Loved how Ale put Juvie in his place (even though we know it won't last, Juvie didn't get what he thought he deserved)

Ale was even better with Maria. He told her straight up where she stood. Yep. Maria is tone deaf, but how nice to have a galan who is not ambiguous with his words.

Loved the scene with Ale telling the wonderful padre what he really thought of Monse. The segue from anger to "mi amor, we were just talking about you" was perfect. So very nicely done!

The shower scene. Oh my gosh. That one is a keeper for endless replay.

Rulli is Rocking It. I agree that it is an excellent pairing of actors with Rulli/Boyer,but I sometimes find it hard to get past Boyer's pursed little lips and this funny lisp she throws in there every now and then.

Oh, and did I mention Rulli's beautiful eyes?!

Thank you, Gloria!

Fatima

Wonderful Gloria!!

So, little dismayed by the ending. Let's hope Ale doesn't complete the Tarzan routine. Just not in character. I know he's angry, but really? Thinking good thoughts, thinking good thoughts...

Maria is becoming a whining pain in the butt. I hope we don't have to listen to her bitchiness and whining constantly. Go clean something...

Are we supposed to be understanding and possibly supportive of JL at this stage, because he's just lame. And I agree with everyone on the unappealing sweaty, dirty look. realistic yes, but blech!

Daisynjay

thanks, Gloria, for another one of your glorious recaps.

Wow, that was quite an episode. Money is going to be singing "How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria" for sure. Marie forms the last part of the love rectangular...the two leads and the two people who want them. Action !!! I do like Maria's capris...very perky.

The actor playing Juvie has pulled out all the stops to portray a very creepy person. Creepy Mccreeperson. This is certainly a cringeworthy performance, and he is playing the despicable character that he is carefully constructing with gusto. I got a kick out of him flopping on Money's bed. YIKES..this guy has nerve..sneaking in to his jeje's wife's room while she's in the shower.

I should have realized that the previews of Ale sharing Money's shower was a daydream. I must comment on his denim shirt with the handy snaps......my.oh.my......where was I ? Another daydream ! I want him to wear that shirt for the remainder of the novela.

Here's a thought....What if Dim was cleaned up a bit and playing JL ? He would be handsome if someone tweeted his unibrow and combed his hair. He would probably provoke some sympathy for the character because he has a softer , gentler look than the guy playing JL. Then, Refugio could be in the Dim role because I think he could play a n'er-do-well. The guy playing JL could then be Refugio , the rescuer.

Gloria - Thank you for the recap! I won't have time to watch my recording of this epi.

I think the Esme character in AR was a prostitute?
Is the Dominga character in this the the same as Damiana in AR?

I remember the "bathing" scenes in AR were quite different and in keeping with that setting, along with a very hawt one between Matilde and Manuel, a little further along in the story.

I like the way they are setting the stage with the dark hacienda interiors, so fitting for Alems brooding and seething.

In Amor Real, Manuel claimed his marital rights at the inn on the noche de boda on the trip to his hacienda. Matilde would not eat after that night. However, when they got to the hacienda, Matilde had her own bedroom. Just like last night's previews, Manuel grabs Matilde and tells her that he wants a son. He also tells her that he will let her go if she gives him a son. This plotline works when the novela is set in the 18oos , but I think that in today's world, a handsome, rich guy would just move on to any number of women who would like to give him that family.

Dear Gloria--Thanks for a fabulous detailed recap! I read it on the subway on the way to work and was so engrossed that I didn't realize I had reached my stop. It felt like I was reading a novel.

Thanks to all the commenters, too. I have to agree with Fatima's comment that the shower scene is worthy of endless replay (have already watched additional times on Youtube!) and laughed at Susanlynn comment about the dark denim shirt with the handy snaps. I am enjoying his wardrobe choices, too.

Doris..the cook in AR was older and did not have much of a part in the storyline. I think the Esme character in AR was an actress and perhaps a prostitute. She was the dim character's girlfriend, I think.

The bathing scenes in AR were super, super H.O.T. thanks for those images on this cold, winter day as I look out at the snow falling on this snow day.

Great work, Gloria. Love your exhortation to not have Juventino eating or molesting more fruit. Particularly since he's eyeing a couple of grapefruit he has no business being aware of.

What's bugging me at the moment is that Alejandro should fire Juventino because he can't trust him. If he was never able to trust him before he has no reason to delay doing that now (other than creating another plot point).

UMMMM...I cannot help wondering why Juvie had a photo of Ale in his nightstand. Odd and disturbing. this guy is over-the-top BSC scary.

First of all, thank you for the very fine recap, Gloria.

Can JL be any LESS attractive? What's up with all the sweat? He looked like a mad man with Nadia.
I had to laugh when he warned Refugio about subjecting Esmeralda to a life on the run. ISN'T THIS WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO WITH MONTSE???

So the cat and mouse game between Ale and Montse has started.... She struts, he shruggs, she pouts, he clinges. I find them quite endearing actually - Montse trying to fix her hair in the mirror while asking about her "husband" was funny, I'm glad the writers are adding a few lighter moments, showing that Montse is not so distressed as she pretends to be.
She can whisper "mi Jose Luis" until the cows come home, but Ale can stil rock that denim shirt like it's nobody's business...
The guy is HOT!

Fab recap, Gloria! So many good scenes last night.

The sweat is very realistic and I can't help but feel for the actors who look like they are sweltering. I always wonder how they manage to keep the female actresses looking cool and fresh, even in the hottest conditions.

Adriana- I agree that Monse can continue to moon for JL all she wants, but she is definitely attracted to Ale and interested in learning more about him and his life. I'm looking forward to these two finally having a heart to heart talk and clearing up a few things.

Juvie was beyond disgusting. I too wondered why he had that pic of Ale. Looks like he's abused it a few times before. He's definitely jealous of Ale. And who wouldn't be? I was very happy with the fantasy shower scene. Let's hope they make it a reality sometime soon.

I refuse to believe that they'll turn Ale into a rapist. I don't care what happened in the previous versions. They can't possibly think that would fly with today's audience. Even from the previews it looked like Monse was giving into her hormones, not being forced. If they do have sex next episode, I hope they are both very willing participants.

"just because I'm married does not mean our friendship will end." Uh-oh ...Ale should not have said that to the lovestruck Maria. In AR, Chantelle Andere played the housekeeper. she seemed older than this actress playing Maria , but like Maria , she was obsessed with Manuel.

The Esme character never met the Refugio character in AR, so this is a brand new storyline. The Esme character, however, did reappear later in AR.

Gloria thanks for your recap. Your observations are always spot on.

ITA w/Diana and Vivi and hope that the writers will spare us from martial rape.

Juvie continues to be scary. His entitlement knows no bounds. I hope his anvil is big and really hope Maria finds out he killed her dad.

Vivi...Maybe we should call Monserrat "Mooney" since she is mooning over her lost first love.

Sorry, I am anon 10.52.. The snow day has me a little spacey. ..plus, my coffee maker just died.

I have a snow day too, Susanlynn. Yay! So sorry about your coffee maker. :(

A very fine recap, Gloria. Yes, Alejandro with the denim shirt is also very fine.

Juvie really gave us the grand tour of his character--flopping onto the owner's bed, helping himself to more jewelry, raping the fruit and generally swaggering around. He's not only rude and crude, he's crazy.

Thanks Miss Gloria. Lots of snow here, but they didn't cancel classes so I drove in to teach an early morning fitness routine. But great to come home to this recap, and I'm looking forward to watching this later today, especially the shower scene and Rulli's pop-a-top denim shirt. Woo hoo!

And, lest we forget, lashing the pillow and stabbing Ale's photo eyes. He's frightening.

Thank you so much, Gloria. This is outstanding.

A word about what Refugio overheard --

Yes, he misinterpreted Esmeralda's feelings for himself and for Dim, not realizing she was just playing Dim to find out where Alejandro had taken Montse.

But from what Esme said, Refugio realized that she was the mystery woman who had convinced Montse that José Luis was a habitual dirtbag.

So we can call the first part miscommunication, but the second is a damning revelation of truth.

My favorite moment in the episode:

Montse climbing onto the bureau so she can see herself in the only mirror in the bedroom and comb her hair. Nothing in her new environment measures up -- or down -- to her.

La Paloma..yes! the guy is rude, crude, lewd...and definitely cray cray. YIKES Where is my seatbelt ? This show is sure to be a wild ride.

Vivi, thanks for your condolences on the death of my coffee maker. It was a freebie from Gevalia and has served us loyally and well for several years. I was impatient and made myself a cuppa instant coffee. Then, I unearthed our old, retired coffee maker for hub. Yes, I saved it for an emergency , and today was an emergency. The clutter cutters would have gotten rid of it, but then they would not have their coffee this morning.

La Paloma:

To distract yourself from Juventino's ravishing of innocent fruit and delivering fuetazos (lashes of the whip) to innocent pillows, listen to what he does to the Spanish language:

As he slashes Alejandro's photo, he mutters:
Tú no eres NAIDEN, NAIDEN
(apparently 'naiden' is slang for 'nadie.')

When he is rubbing María's nose in Alejandro's choice of a beautiful rich girl for his wife, Juventino says the rich always choose the más mejor (the 'bestest' or the 'most best')

Novelamaven, I can relate to Mooney hopping up on that dresser to do her hair. Been there, done that. It looks as though Mooney may turn out to be a pretty pragmatic person. Now, about those heels....welcome to the country, girlie.

Urban:

Ale isn't firing Juvie cause he is Maria's Tio. Ale is all about family it seems. If it wasn't for that he'd make him leave the hacienda. I too think Ale will come to regret this decision.

Susanlynn:

How funny! I too have a back up coffee maker ; ) I had the same problem you did a couple three years ago, and kept an old one "just in case" and boy was I glad I did. Ya never know when you might need one ; )

Vivi:

Is it bad up there? We are getting rain here, with some flakes mixed in. We dodged a major bullet. West of us, in the mountains they are getting lots of snow.

And also...

I loved the way José Luis was lurking behind the shrubbery while Nadia was speaking to Graciela on the phone -- as if to keep Gracie from SEEING him.

And when Josefina fixed Dim with her look of worry and disappointment at his abrupt departure, I said to myself:
"Here's a girl who really COULD knit her brows."

Mad..may I ask where you are ? This is our second storm. Both came up from the south. We had snow Sunday night, and the local schools had a twohour delay on Monday. My college was open for finals, but someone should have put some salt on the sidewalks. They were treacherous. I hate worrying about driving in snow and ice. I do not like winter.

SusanLynn:

I live in the Mid Atlantic States south of Washington, D.C. I love the winter. I am an Army brat, and so traveled all over the country and Europe growing up. I have shoveled my share of snow, and learned to drive in it too. It's the people around here that don't know how to drive in it that always concerns me. They think snow, let's drive 60 miles per hour. I cannot tell you how many accidents there are around here after a snow storm. I keep my car in 1st or 2nd gear and if they want to pass me I let them.

Mads- It really isn't that bad, but you know how this region gets about snow-- accidents everywhere, streets go un-plowed and un-salted, and everything gets shut down.

Mads and Vivi....In contrast, hub and I waited until the day after Syracuse and Rochester got their snow the day before thanksgiving to drive to Toronto, and the roads were fine. Those folks in the lake-effect snow belt in upstate NY know how to deal with snow. it can be fine in Toronto and fine here, but we always have to check the weather in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse before we drive or fly.

Gloria - great recap. I am really enjoying this novella.

Why is it that the creepy, greasy bad guys like Juvie always seem to grab a piece of fruit - last night it was a peach and then drip juice down their chins and hands. Yuck! Ugh!

Anyway, the pillow needed beating. Look how much dust flew out.

Best shot - Alejandro's backside in those tight jeans as he walked into the bathroom where he lead us on into thinking we were going to see something special. Walk on, Romeo.

Forgot to say - I think Padre Anselmo was riding a small horse and not a donkey or burro. Maybe a pasofino.

Thank you Gloria! At work, will read comments later. One sentence stands out as prophetic re JL: "The only way he will leave Montse alone is if he is dead." I said earlier I don't see how Montse will fall out of love with JL unless he dies -- and sometimes that's not enough. We'll see how that happens.

After seeing Ale shirtless and comparing him to JL's behavior: Ale is a stallion and JL is a cockroach. Who will step on him? And if Ale, yummily virile or not, "insists" on his conjugal rights, he will become the target of much hate from Montse and this board!

Haven’t read the recap/comments, yet—I did watch the ep last night. I wanted to reply to comments from yesterday. One thing I will say about the ep. I took a good look at SR for the first time. He’s kinda handsome, isn’t he? ;)

Thanks for all the compliments on the list. I enjoy doing it.

OT: re: The Paradise. Loved it. Couldn’t even finish Selfridges.

Madeleine: I loved Silk, too. I’m also a big fan of Ripper Street, which is on BBC America. If it got renewed, the new season should be starting soon. Don’t care for Copper, though. Also love The Hour. I’m a sucker for BBC programming--especially historical ones.

Gloria:
What a superb recap! These last few episodes have been so important in setting up the story and you gave us every pertinent detail. Thank you so much.

Montserrat trying to walk up the Hacienda steps in her skin tight dress and heels. those steps do looks quite steep.

And I agree with Mads that Juvie is the head bandito of the neighborhood. His performance in Montserrat's bedroom was a parody of twisted sadistic menace. My skin was crawling. Combined with his pillow-murder I am convinced he should be locked up. I have said this before but I SO hope they do not show him hurting the horses.

Daisynjay# 'And I agree with everyone on the unappealing sweaty, dirty look. realistic yes, but blech! ITA with you, old friend, and all.

All I can think of is that it was extremely hot and humid in Campeche when they were filming? Just a thought.

Vivi: ITA that a rape will not work in this setting. As a story device for a galan it would never work for me, even if we were talking about filming the life and times of Glug the Caveman.

Susanlynn! Your coffee maker just died on a SNOW day? Now, THAT is tragic. Can you make your coffee in individual filter cups? I am deeply worried about you having a freezing indoors day without the beloved java. (Warm hug.)

OT - Weather- I feel chagrined even mentioning weather as a Californian, although my birdbath froze last night. We don't know for weather here, really.

I grew up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near lake Tahoe and we had lots of snow. Many feet would accumulate over the winter and most houses had an upstairs entrance to allow ease of entry in the winter. But a cold day would be in the low teens, and mostly we would have huge dumps of snow and then sunny skiing weather until the next storm. All the locals knew how to drive in the snow, but the skiing tourists were always a menace.

We knew SNOW but my sister who now lives in Lake Minnetonka, MN said that it was 26 degrees BELOW ZERO yesterday. The kids still went to school. The only concessions the hardy folks of the upper midwest seem to make to cold is that if it is 10 degrees below zero or more, the kids do not go outside for recess. At 9 degrees below zero, out they go.

Guau!

Novela Maven:

Great comment, "Montse climbing onto the bureau so she can see herself in the only mirror in the bedroom and comb her hair. Nothing in her new environment measures up -- or down -- to her."

Over time, I have reluctantly come to appreciate Boyer as an actress. She is awfully good, I confess. I thought she did a great job in the scene with the Padre (that old HAM Eric del Castillo) when she couldn't figure out where to sit or what to do with herself.

Speaking of cold, amiga, I hope you are keeping your gloves and hats at the ready. If you find yourself in need of facial protection, we could always ask for Juventino to send up a couple of balaclavas to sell in the 'Me Robo Country Store'.

So far we have Creme de Agua Azul and Balaclavas and several of those off-shoulder cotton tops that Maria wears. Anita?

Susanlynn, thank you for mentioning the ridiculously small picture of Ale that Juvie attempted to mutilate. It made me snicker; somehow the murderous intent was derogated by the care he took not to poke his own fingers with his tiny penknife.

But the question remains unanswered, what was he doing with Ale's pic in the first place? Maybe the small photo was included as part of the "Welcome From The New Jefe" packet that Ale distributed when he took over the hacienda?

Gloria - Terrific recap. Thanks a
bunch.

Interesting that they show JL so sweaty, while in contrast Ale is immaculate. I kept looking at JL's shirt to see if the stains were sweat, dirt, or jelly.

Yay, Ale is too smart to have Juventino as capataz and would rather hire someone brand-new. Wonder who that will be and if it's anyone we've already met.

I sure hope Esme and Refugio clear the air soon. She's pretty smart and they need help. Surely she didn't slime up to Dim for info about Montse in vain.

NovelaMaven, thank you for pointing out Juvie's slang. I admit when he was saying naiden I asked myself "Who???" I assumed he meant nadia but there was a big question mark over my head.

I have great sympathy for poor JL sweating all the time. That's how I felt the last couple of weeks when I was in La Paz and temps were in the high 90's Fahrenheit. And all the fans we see on the telenovelas? I could not find a one in town. Anywhere. I've picked up a supply here to take back down with me. Campeche is near the Yucatan and I know it can get extremely hot there.

NovelaMaven and Cap'n:

I can actually understand what Juvie was saying ; ) Since I use a lot of slang myself maybe that's why I could understand him.

Neice in MD:

I so agree with you about Ale looking cool as a cucumber. He looks the best out of everyone! No sweat on his brow.

Nanette:

I too am a huge fan of BBC America and BBC World News. I am always checking to see what is on there, such interesting programs. I too watched Ripper Street.

Fans, fans, fans! I probably own at least 60. I want to know how any woman can possibly look like she doesn't sweat. I certainly couldn't at that age. My mother would say that it proved I was lower class than she was.

It is almost impossible for a woman to transition from "friend" to "great love" and Maria hasn't learned that lesson. She has had reason to be creeped out by Juventino, as does her mother. I wonder whether Monserrat's presence will make that better or worse.

Sylvia...hahahahl..I like the idea of Ale distributing that brochures, and I think that you are on to something because Juvie's warped personality may, in fact, be due to his "tiny penknife.".....,oh.my.... Did I say that ? This is why they would still never let us sit next to each other in study hall or assemblies.

Elna June....yikes..in my gratitude journal today, I promise to write, " I am thankful that the temps here seldom go below freezing." Those children in MN must be hearty souls to go outside for recess in such cold temps. I feel like a wimp. As for driving in the snow, I had a bad accident right after I got my license when I was 16 and was thrown out of the car .Three months later, I met Hub , and he did all the driving , so I have always been a chicken about driving, especially in bad weather. Also, I made instant coffee, and then! I unearthed our old coffee maker for hub's breakfast.

Well, I must continue my Christmas cleaning and recharge this Ipad if I want to continue to check out the Caraycaray fun from time to time.

Hee, Juventino's Tiny Penknife. Anita, do you think they would sell?

Gracias, Gloria.

I'm glad I realized ahead of time that the shower scene would be a fantasy, so I could enjoy it instead of thinking he was a creep. I don't think he will actually force himself on her. Maybe yell and scare her a little, but actually raping her would make him irredeemable in a modern show. Plus, I just don't think the character is bad enough to do that even in an angry hormonal fit.

I'm liking AB's acting in these hacienda scenes. So awkward and uncomfortable.

Poor Refugio. I hope Esme catches him before he leaves and tells him what she was up to. I also thought Carlota should call Nadia and tell her where Money is. Not that I really want JL to be able to hunt her down, but I don't want Graceless to succeed in keeping her daughter isolated.

Thanks for this great recap, Gloria. Well done.

I'm getting a real kick out of watching the hilarious creepiness of Juventino. I couldn't believe that when María whined that she didn't have anyone, Alejandro pointed out that she still has Uncle Juvi... I'm sure that was very comforting for her.

I can't believe that JL managed to convince Nadia to help him. He seemed downright scary to me.

I too thought the scene between Padre Anselmo was very entertaining and very well done. He was also great when Alejandro told him about getting married.

Another great bit of acting between Josefina and Dimetrio. I think that they make a cute couple.

Carlos

Thanks, Gloria! So happy to see your recap. It's such a pleasure to have a recap each day, like having the teacher's answer sheet with all the correct answers. For those of us who are still learning Spanish, it's much appreciated!

Sylvia: Maybe the small photo was included as part of the "Welcome From The New Jefe" packet that Ale distributed when he took over the hacienda? OMGee hahahahahahah!!! You are killing me today!

I am so happy for the change of scenery at the hacienda vs. Mommie Dearest's casa back at Agua Azul. And Boyer and Rulli are born for their roles: they are a couple so attractive/attracted to each other, they're going to find it hard to stay mad.

Thanks again to you, Gloria!

Okay, I know we're all frothing at the mouth that Alejandro can't demand his marital rights...but does anybody remember Gone with the Wind, and how Clark Gable beat down the door and told Scarlet he wasn't going to be locked out and denied anymore? Every female in the audience was quivering and according to the story, Scarlet was too...delightedly.

So I'm wondering...maybe if they show her responding physically in spite of herself...and then pushing him away and ranting and raving afterwards. And he'd do the ol' Clark Gable Walk of Shame and we'd have another Love Desert for a while...Him keeping his distance, her getting confused about her feelings. You know the drill....

Judy, if Ale decides to wait until Montse is in love with him, he might be left waiting for a long while.

So, my guess is they do it with Montse being a reluctant participant - you know, just laying there, telling him she'll be thinking about "mi Jose Luis" all the time; or, like you said, she'll like it in spite of herslef.
I definitely don't see it play out as a rape scene, with her kicking and screaming the whole time - Oh, I really hope I'm right!
You make a good point about Gone with the wind - if I had a nickel for every romance novel that has violent heros....

Someone who watched AR recently could maybe refresh my memory on this: didn't Matilde say at one time that she kind of liked it?? That she felt something? I might be way off, it's been a while since I watched the tn.

Judyb...and like old Rhett, Manuel demanded his marital rights on their wedding night. However, that scene and other later scenes made Manuel less of a hero for me. I was shocked that a galan could have such a dark side.

Maybe Money will decide to go along with the bargain and bite the bullet as she thinks of England.

Amor real was made about seven years ago, so this novela may be a bit more politically correct.

Glad you liked the recap. I also wondered last night why the heck Juvie had a photo of Ale in his nightstand. What sane man does that? Every time I look at Juvie, I keep seeing /thinking of his character in Passion and I have to remind myself that he’s not a good guy here. I really enjoyed him in that. I totally agree with the whole fruit thing. Makes me want to sit him down and teach him how to eat properly.

Maria is just driving me crazy. She’s completely dense. Begging for a man? Not pretty.

The shower scene was very HOT!! Rulli definitely brought it.

Loved the exchange between Padre Anselmo and Ale. Padre seemed hurt not being invited to the wedding of his little one.
Cannot wait for tonight.

Adriana, After the wedding night, Matilde was furious. She refused to eat and had a separate bedroom. She saw Manuel as an animal compared to her sweet, pure, gentler first love who loved her for her soul, not her body. However, Manuel told her he would release her if she gave him a son. He then waited, but kept asking her if she would do it . There were some very good scenes of Manuelunsuccessfully trying to seduce Matilde. Nobody does seduction scenes like Fernando Colunga. AR was very hot.

There are scenes from Amor Real on YouTube. You can check out the characters. it was a very elaborate and beautiful production. In the opening, everyone is in a dance sequence. There was also a show about how it was produced.

Susanlynn,I agree. Nobody is hotter then Colunga in a seduction scene. Amor Real is one of my favorite novelas.

I agree with the second part of your comment Susanlynn...nobody does seduction scenes like Colunga...in Amor Real anyway. If I were a sex therapist, I might use that video for my inhibited clients!

On the disastrous boda night, yes, it was awful. But basically good people do awful things, in certain contexts. If you can't forgive terrible mistakes, you're in for a lifetime of pointless bitterness. Matilde forgave him. And he forgave her. And ultimately, all these telenovelas end up stressing the necessity of that.

Susanlynn – Oh noes! Nothing worse than a broken coffee maker. I highly recommend Melitta coffee cones! They never break. Very low tech. Ask me how I know. The older style is better than their current design, IMO.

When it comes to coffee, I have to admit I have caved and gotten one of those one-cup coffee makers. Our oldest daughter and her husband use one, and when she visits, she wants her coffee just like she gets it at home. And it is downright convenient. But at a cost....

JudyB, so right about good people doing awful things. May I quote that excellent observer of human nature, M. Hercule Poirot: "The world is full of good people...who do bad things, mon ami." There you have it.

I enjoyed the interaction between Padre and Monse. At last, someone she feels she can trust. For now. And I loved Padre's reactions to Ale's news bombs..."Que?????". It was so natural and true to life. I really appreciated Eric del Castillo's acting props. Nothing like an old pro, and by old I don't necessarily mean age. I mean experience.

Interesting discussion about the husband demanding his marital rights. I am VERY curious how the scene will play out tonight.

Well, the old coffeemaker still worked, so we will see how long that works. We have had bad luck with our machinery lately. In the last few months, we have replaced our mower, refrigerator, and last week, Hub had to replace the catalytic converter in his car ($1100). Our shed is falling apart, so he just ordered a new one for the new mower. It seems that everything happens at once.My mother used to say that things happen in threes, but we have gone last three.

I just watched some scenes from Amor real on YouTube. WOWEE, that Fernando is muy caliente. Ernesto looked like such a roué in that role of the brother. ...great casting in that novela.

yes, Judyb...Those scenes from AR could be very useful as a how-to guide. I always said that FC could teach a class in kissing.

You are so right. Good people do bad things...bad people do bad things. You have to let it go.

Gloria,

Great re-cap, thanks so very much. I really enjoyed your straightforward and descriptive writing.

ITA-Loved the scene with Montse going up the stairs in her tiny, tight dress and tacones (heels). Imagine if she were on the run with JL. Like I said before, she wouldn't last long.

Still annoyed by Maria, and even more creeped out by Juvie. I guess he's planning on opening a joyeria soon.

Great scene with Ale, the Padresito and Montse. Very HOT scene in the shower. WOW! Is that a preview of what's to come?

Interesting the way it ended. I never saw AR, so I am not sure how to feel about Ale taking his marital rights.
Adriana Noel, ITA, I can't see it playing out as a rape scene. My guess is that she just won't say no. Can't wait for tonight's epi.

Susanlynn: Have you thought about getting a French Press for your coffee. They are great.

Back to work...Hasta pronto!

Aunty Ann, a French Press is what we use on the boat. Uses no power (just propane for boiling the water), makes great coffee and is easy.

Maybe in this modern remake of AR it will be Monse who is always in the shower, as opposed to FC who was always taking a bath. Hopefully Alejandro will do more shower scenes. Yowza!!
