Mentir Para Vivir #51 Wed 12/18/13 Rocky Mariano wins this round, Gramps is a spook, and Tito’s a no-show tonight :(

Holy Gym of Comeuppance
When last we saw el "Cura Metiche", as Seba calls him, he had just given Seba just a bit of the comeuppance he's got coming to him.  He delivers to blows to the old breadbasket and then has Seba by the throat and asks him if he'd like to die.  Padre appears to be afraid of his own strength and backs off.  Sebas, never one to know when enough is enough, lunges after the good Padre when his back is turned.  Padre makes quick work of him and throws him against the bookcases, which aren't very secure cuz they fall right over.  He reaches to help him up then tells him to leave. Apparently, Sebas has had enough “spiritual counseling” for one night and finally leaves.  Padre is left alone to pick up the pieces.

Outside, Sebas, con cara de mil chingazos, calls a friend. The phone rings at the beach house. Marilu announces it's Sebas.  Paloma wants to answer but Oriana figures it would be best to ignore him. Sebas is really pithed and races away from the church.

Beach House
Oriana suggests they do something about all these darn cell phones. She’s fine because "Ricky gave me his."   Marilu and Fidelia agree.

HolyGym
Ricky arrives and is shocked to see Padre Plaid in such a state. (Oy, you should see the other guy, oof!)  Padre reminds Ricky he studied medicine before joining the Plaid Order and knows how care for himself.  Ricky assumes the assailant must be someone he knows.  Otherwise, Mariano would tell him. He gets to the point of his visit: Maria's surgery.  He also tells him the womenfolk are fine, except that Fabi attempted suicide. Mariano is shocked.

Casa Leonardo and Abuelo
Leonardo and Gramps discuss Fabi's situation.  He tells Gramps he's found out that Sebastian is an irresponsible drunk addict.  Gramps, as usual, already knows this. Luscious Leo confesses he has feelings for Fabi. Gramps tells him that girls have a soft spot for pets (mascotas).  Since Tito's now on the mend (now walking on that bad leg and ribs are healing) maybe he should call the girl with an update.

Beach House
Leonardo calls one of the cell phones and Oriana answers.  He gives her the good news about Tito’s health.  He'd be happy to keep him but isn't sure he'd get along well with Neron.  note: Leos full name Leonardo Olvero de la Garza  While Oriana's on the phone, Fidelia suggests he take Tito to her house so Ricky can transport him to the beach house.  Paloma warns they should make sure who  they're dealing with.  Ori asks for Leo' address. He hesitates and Grandpa signals "no way". In the end, he tells her he'll take Tito to Ricky's. He asks for Fabi but Ori tells him she's indisposed. note: Leo gives Oriana his full name: Leonardo Olvero de la Garza.  Later, Fidelia and Paloma talk about the Olveras, trying to figure out if Leo's part of that family.

Bungalo Azul – Who knew?  Gramps is a spook!
Piero and Ricky discuss Mariano's beating.  He doesn't know who did it, but when Ricky finds out, he plans to make him pay. Ricky talks about Tito, which leads to Leo, which leads to Gramps.  Leo's father used to sell them cotton but Ricky had to sever ties with him because of the declining quality of the product. Piero figures out that Gramps is Homero de la Garza, ex-Director of the Federal Intelligence Agency.  He's an important guy who can come in handy with their problem with JL!

Homer's House
Leo and Gramps are having a heated discussion because Leo told Oriana his name. Gramps knows something's up.  It's obvious Fabiola, Inez, Paloma and who knows who else, are in hiding, and who knows from whom.  Besides, Leo knows full well he doesn't want anyone coming to bother him at his house. Leo reminds him this is also his house and besides, Gramps did say he wanted to meet Fabiola. Homer admits that but something isn't right here.

Bungalo Azul
Piero and Ricky continue to discuss Mariano and that he doesn't want to divulge who accosted him. Mariano doesn't like to make a fuss about these things and isn't likely to press charges.  The subject turns to Fabiola and Piero repeats he is willing to marry her despite the age difference.  (Piero’s sudden obsession with Fabi is starting to creep me out)  Ricky realizes Piero would like be a great dad and wonderful husband but they have to take Fabiola's wishes into consideration. Piero wants to see her and insists on knowing where she is.  Ricky reminds him they agreed no one would know where they're hiding. He has to keep Oriana and Alina safe.    They don't know who's watching or monitoring their movements.  What else can they do? hire more guards, more cars?  Ricky's even considered sending them abroad but is convinced they're safer here with him.  He tells Piero how Oriana printed out documents from JL's computer and he now has his jefe's email. Maybe he can contact him and tell him JL's out of line. Piero scoffs at this, asking if Ricky thinks the jefe would listen to him.  Ricky's not sure but he has to do something to contain that scumbag.

Aresti Breton
What does the wardrobe department have against our galán? He's sporting a very thin cravat today, ugh!  Don't they have Policia de la Moda on TNs?

Anyway, Ricky and his cravat arrive for work (he wears it all day).  Manriquez is waiting for him. He's brought a copy of Maria's birth certificate wherein we learn her mother is Celeste Flores de Jimenez, meaning that Benigno really did marry Maria's mother.  Manriquez feels it will be difficult to find her now.  As for Paloma's idea to adopt Oriana and give her Inez's name? It ain't gonna be easy. Even if Oriana were to take on the name of Inez Aresti, it won't absolve her of identity theft charges(duh!)

Stay with me here, there's a lot of twists to this discussion:
·        Oriana can say she had to flee the clutches of JL and was forced to take on another identity
·        But, she's being sought in Mexico for Gabriel's murder.
·        And now Berto -- Gabriel's assassin -- is dead.
·        But hey, wasn't Lila suspicious that her brother may have been the one who killed Gabriel?
·        What about Berto's murderer?   The cops have very few leads but have an artist's rendition (retrato hablado) of the killer based on the description by the hotel clerk and JL.  Unfortunately the killer is a common type guy.  All they know is that his name is Eliseo, but don't have a surname.
·        Ricky pleads with Manriquez to help him free Oriana of all charges.  Manriquez is trying but has been unable to find a way.

Beach House.
Oriana speaks with Ricky.  Some lovey dovey talk -- I miss you, when's Tito coming home, etc.  Ricky asks for Joaquin Barragan's email address(JL's boss). He wants to send a message asking him to order JL to leave her alone.  Oriana's hesitant but Ricky insists.

Casa de Cara de Mil Chingazos (Seba's place)
Ricky next calls Seba who figures he's calling to lecture him about beating up on a priest. Ricky never would have thought Seba would be so contemptible (ruin) to do this when he knew Mariano wouldn't defend himself.  "Oh yeah?  Well he grabbed me by the throat and almost choked me. He even hit me!"  Ricky's doesn't disguise the fact that he's glad Mariano got in a few good shots at Seba. But enough about that (what about the beating Ricky promised to give the guy to beat up Mariano?).  Ricky tells him about Maria's surgery, wondering if Seba would be interested in seeing her. She's his mother after all.  Seba tells Ricky he only says that because he's from a good family and wasn't born of a loca mother.  All that's left to find is which criminal drug addict might be his father?  Seba actually sheds a tear. (Nah, still don't feel sorry for him.  He's only thinking of himself again.)  He hangs up on Ricky.

Ricky gets busy on his computer and sends an email to Joaquin (who's busy trying to do the horizontal mambo with a young thing in his office). Basically, Ricky tells him that his employee is putting Joaquin's business at risk. Ricky has the goods on JL that can end up putting him in jail.  Never mind sending someone to kill Ricky because there are others who know everything he knows.  He asks Joaquin to get JL to leave Oriana and her family alone or he'll spill the frijoles.

Joaquin leaves his playmate long enough to realize this email is important.

Hospital
Ricky visits with Maria (OMG, the actress actually shaved her head! Way to be true to your character! Brava!) Doc gives a concerned glance at a still-healing at Mariano before taking Ricky in to see her.  Ricky assures her he will never stop caring for her. He lies and says Seba is away and wasn’t able to come see her.  Maria has always loved Ricky and even hoped they could be novios. Ricky tells her they're much more than novios -- they're friends.  And friends can always be counted on for a hug. She's very afraid.  He tells her everything will be fine; to think of the day she walks out of here and they could have another hug. She wishes this day would last forever and that they could hug.  Nothing else would matter to her. Ricky hugs her and she cries.

QTH? Commercial break ends with that shot of Oriana's deer-in-the-headlights look as a truck crashes into her car.

Trejo Bonfil Textiles
Don Alfredo agrees with JL on the new name for the company:  Arte Folclor. Antonio explains the name reflects their plan to export Mexican folkart - pottery, sculptures, ceramics, the works.  Alfredo will get 40% and 60% will go to Caribbean Investment Company.  JL announces Alfredo will be named President of Arte Folclor.  and the VP will be Antonio.  The next step is to open a bank account and then the funds will be released. JL next "advises" Alfredo to assign a new accountant, and a shipping supervisor, people who Caribbean Investment Company know and trust.  Alfredo's resistant to this but eventually gives in. Everyone signs.  Antonio hesitates for a split second then proceeds to sign........his life away! tan....tan...TAN!

HOSPITAL
Mariano is next to visit Maria who immediately notices his injuries.  Mariano asks if she's ready to confess her sins.  Maria has no sins.  All she's ever done is harass her dolls, and maybe some people too! Tee-hee!  She tells him Ricky and she are no longer novios.  They're now BFFs.  Maria is eventually wheeled away to surgery.

Beach House
Oriana offers Fabiola her support and kindness.  Fabi is convinced Sebastian only offered to marry her for selfish reasons.  Oriana assures her she and her baby will be happy. She tells her Seba called Fidelia looking for her.  Fabi doesn't want him to know where she is. She's not so worried she'll give in to him as much as her mother's insisting she marry Seba.  Oriana tells her Matilde can't force her to do anything she doesn't want to do.  She'll be 18 in a few days and she'll have to respect her decision. Speaking of which, they want to celebrate her birthday.  Fabi doesn't feel much like celebrating.  Well, ok how about a dinner? Fabi asks about all the guards and Oriana explains Ricky hired them.  They're worried JL could come and take Alina. On a happier note, Oriana tells her about Leonardo’s call and the return of Tito.  Oriana encourages her to call him back but reminds her not to tell him where she is.

Hospital
As expected, there were complications and Maria is now in a coma.  (we all knew this would happen, righ?)

Casa de las Garzas
Gramps is admiring Leo's portrait of Fabi when her call rings in.  They chitchat and he insists on taking Tito himself (ruh-roh).  He needs to give her and Alina instructions on the care and feeding of our Champion Chihuahua.  Alina's with her, right?  Maybe that hotel doesn't admit pets. Fabi stupidly tells him they're not at a hotel, they’re at Fidelia's house.  oopsie!  He promises not to tell if she tells him where she is. She also tells him they're switching out they're cell phones and she'll give him her new number when she gets it.

Bungalo Azul
Ricky calls Oriana to tell her about Maria's coma. He also tells her about the e-mail he sent Joaquin. He'll tell her more once he gets a response.

Benigno’s Place
Ricky arrives to tell Benny about Maria's coma.  Benny doesn't seem too interested in seeing her, what's the point?  His golfa gf (can't remember her name) cuts in, saying they'll definitely visit Maria.  Ricky tells him he verified Maria's mom, Celeste Flores, and asks if Benny knows her whereabouts.  Benny gets agitated, saying she left a long time ago.  How much is Ricky willing to pay for the info? Bring me the info and then we'll talk.  hmmmmm

Casa de las Garzas
Gramps puts his sleuthing skills to work.  So, it's true they're in hiding.  Perhaps Fabi is hiding from Seba.  Inez and her daughter from someone else.  Leo tells him Fabi wouldn't tell him where they are, only that they're at a beach house belonging to Fidelia.  Gramps laughs and says he knows where it is. It's called Ell Ojot, near Bahia Kino.   This is a job for Sherlock Holmes.  Actually he's more astute than his British counterpart.  Sherlock didn’t gave the internet, chat, or any of that.  Leo tells him to get on with it then. Homer says he'll tell him when he's good and ready.  He's concerned Leo could get involved in something he’s not ready for.  Leo complains he's not a kid. He knows how to take care of himself.  That may be, says Gramps, but he can be a bit harebrained (atolondrado).

Beach House
Everyone's gathered in the living room when Marilu arrives with the new cell phones. Paloma doesn't want a new phone. In fact, she's fed up.  She wants to go home. Oriana apologizes for causing her so many problems.  Paloma doesn't want her blaming herself. She announces that as soon as they celebrate Fabi's birthday, they're going back home. Fabi doesn't want to celebrate her birthday.  Paloma insists they should celebrate her coming of age. Oriana tells her she'll now be able to be her own boss. They give Fabi several options:  Paloma tells her she's always welcome at her home. Fidelia offers her home if Matilde creates drama.  Oriana suggests working with her at the library job Mariano offered.  As for Seba -- well Ricky will make sure he won't bother her anymore.

Bennys Place
Benny's golfa gf nags him to find Maria's mother.

Casa de MataPerro, well, Casi MataPerro
Raquel calls JL and suggests they go out and have a drinky-poo followed by dancing, etc.  He asks if she found out where Oriana is. Nope, and Lucina doesn’t know either. Come on, let's go out. JL barks at her, telling her to get the info he asked for and then they can do whatever she wants.  He hangs up on her but the phone rings again. Assuming its Raquel, he answers rather rudely but it's Snaggletooth himself: Joaquin. And he's not happy.  He wants to talk about all the stupidities he's committing.  He’ll meet him at the Hotel Platina tomorrow a10:00.  Uh-oh -- Joaquin is coming to Mexico.  He explains this is all as a result of an email he received from Ricardo.

Bungalo Azul
JL goes to see Ricardo demanding to know how he got Joaquin's info!  Ricky's gone too far and he won't allow it!  He's getting into his affairs.  Ricky: And you've butt into my life. Oriana and I were novios, planning to get married, thinking you were dead.  JL:  But I'm NOT DEAD!  I came to reclaim my daughter and my wife! Ricky: Neither of them want to live with you.  JL:  I can make them. Ricky:  Only if you kill me. I don't think Joaquin Barragan would appreciate losing business due to the stink my murder would cause. JL:  You think you're so smart.  Well, I can get you out of the way without getting my hands dirty. Ricky: Just like you did with Berto Martin?  JL: Don't mess with me or you'll regret it.  I swear you'll regret it.

Avances
Dang!  Raquel finds Oriana – and tells JL
JL tries to convince Joaquin to have Ricky killed

Eliseo has Ricky in his gunsight.

Thanks Paquita! It was great and spiritual counseling was educational for Sebastian. It was a little bit scary from PP' mouth: Do you want to die? When PP threw the jerk boy to the bookcases, I flashbacked in LFDD, in capitulo 1, when JJ did the same with teenager-Ivan, but here the boy injured really, he deserved the lesson.
Ricky's intention to fight with the attacker was over when he knew that it was Sebastian, he wouldn't hurt his son.
I really liked his maneuver sending an e-mail the big boss, it was a very brave step.
Maria's scenes were so deep and hilarious, I think she is a great actress. Her new style hair seems so real. She brought tears to Ricky's eyes, and her chatting with PP. So many attitudinize scene and in my eyes these aren't arty. I watched these minutese more than once.

Thank you Paquita. What a big job to recap as the details get more complex with various deals and lies in play! I love your humorous takes on so many of the scenes.

I have never rooted so much for any character to pop another in the jaw. Good for Mariano. Sebastian so deserved it. And, as a bonus, he actually had a semi-civil conversation with Ricardo while licking is wounds.

Maria looked very beautiful with her head shaved. The actress has unusual looks and the long, unruly hair (I got the same hair, so I am casting no stones!) makes her look more fierce.

Thanks so much for the recap Paquita especially breaking down the details of Oriana's legal situation. I also like how you clue us on to possible plot developments like the cell phones last week and Leo's name.

Like TL, I too was rooting for Padre Plaid to take out Seb. The young actor is great as you truly believe he is a spoiled brat who only cares about himself. My guess is that JL may try to kill Seb and then finally the loser will realize that for all of Ricky's faults, Ricky actually does love him (unlike his violent narcissist bio-dad and crazy JL).

It's interesting grandpa is a spy. This will come in handy for the good guys. I really want to see him court Paloma; I think they would be good for one another.

I hope Maria lives and through tn medical fantasy moves become more adulthood mentally. I would like to see her have some happiness.

Wonderful recap, Paquita. Thank you.

I really like Leo and his grandpa. Great new characters who can be helpful to the good guys, and also possible romantic interests for Fabi and Paloma.

It seems like everything is leading to Ori having to do jail time, no matter what. She, Ricky, and Paloma are going to have to accept this eventually. But they have to get her cleared of the murder, so that she's not sentenced to major time. This means, someone's got to get into JL's safe to get that gun.

The scenes with Maria were very touching. There was a bit of a makeup malfunction when she first hugged Ricky, and you could see the skull cap separate from her temple a bit, but then they fixed it, and the shaved head looked extremely real. She looked so vulnerable, bald and in her hospital gown. I was expecting her to die outright, but the coma might last long enough for her mother and her son to say goodbye. I really wonder how could a woman leave her child with such a disgrace of a man, as Benigno.

Oh dear Paquita, what a WONDERFUL recap! I loved the titles of your paragraphs. They were absolutely, positively PERFECT!!!

I knew Gramps would have the 411 on the whole gang. I just knew it! I love Gramps. I think he has a level head and will be able to direct our Gang of Good Guys to do the right thing.

We knew someone was going to spill the beans as to Oriana's location and looks like it had to be Fabiola. Oy.

Vivi in DC, you took the words right out of my mouth. How in the world could ANY woman leave a child with such a wretch of a man as Benigno? He is disgusting. One has to wonder if neglect was all that he did to Maria.

Padre Plaid is one heckofa good guy!

Paquita, you were picture perfect with this recap! Thank you so much!!

"Holy Gym of Comeuppance"...I just had to write it as I think it is one of the best paragraph headings ever!

The spolier bumpers have shown Ori having a major accident, as well as being in jail. Either way, it looks like her life if going to get crapier really soon.

Paquita - Great details, breakdown on Ori's legal mess, snark, and vocab too. Who could ask for anything more? What a treat. My favorite: "Apparently, Sebas has had enough 'spiritual counseling'..."

Maria and Ricky's convo before the surgery was heart-breaking. Kudos to makeup cause her shaved head sure looked real to me.

Don't know how JL is going to lie his way out of a mess with Joaquin, because the mere fact that Ricky knows who Joaquin is shows that JL is screwing up. Let the dancing begin.

On Ricky's cravat [Paquita, thanks for adding to my English vocab too], maybe these neck adornments are product placement since he's in the textile business?

Let the dancing begin. LOL! Niecie- Do you think Joaquin travels with his bongos? :)

I sure hope so!

I'm sure Joaquin can find a Bongo Boingo Hotspot somewhere! (Sorry, I could not help myself).

Fatima

P.S. The numbers are sure easier to read on the Robot business below versus some of those really funky looking letter, I gotta say.

Thank you for the recap! Wait, so is the deer in headlights clip considered a bumper? It seemed to me like it was the actual scene. The title logo doesn't show up during the clip.

I'm glad that Ric contacted Joaquin. I'm not so afraid that Joaquin will hurt Ric. JL hurting Ric might happen, but it won't benefit JL so much, in my opinion.

Gramps is really well informed about what viewerville knows hehe. I wonder if he could turn out to be an ally for Ric and co. I think he will do the right thing with the info he has.

The scene with Ric and Maria was very bittersweet. That's nice that Maria can count on Ric for anything. He's a good friend. I do hope her mother and even Seb have a chance to say goodbye to her.

Thunder hips belongs in jail. She committed fraud. She broke the law. Case closed.

I suppose the writers of the show made Fabi's new boyfriend an "artist" because Matilde doesn't like creative sorts so we can expect fireworks to fly over Fabi's choice. Wish we could all be so lucky to live in a rich family and paint all the live long day. But some of us have to make a living.

Sorry, but Leonardo strikes me as being a little light in the loafers.

Finally, Maria could win a Telly Sevalas lookalike contest. She should also win a Premio for her performance. If she and Tito don't win Premios this year, then like I said before, David Zapeda should give his back!

As this telenovela goes on, I like it less and less. Am I the only one? I would never have said that about Destilando Amor or Manana es para Siempre.

Reality- It does look like Oriana won't be able to get out of doing time for the identity theft, but I really hope she doesn't have to do any time for murder. I'm glad she's cleared of the fraud charges in Colombia and doesn't have to worry about that any more.

The writers seem to be gearing up for a 2nd act. Things are shifting and changing, and new characters are coming in. I think we'll see some leaps in the storyline soon. I hope Luis Gatica's character comes along with Joaquin, because I really enjoy him as an actor and got too brief of a taste of him as a bad guy in Robo before he was killed off.

I'm not cool with Oriana going to jail for the ID theft because she didn't do anything malicious with RealInes' identity. She was just trying to live an anonymous life taking care of Lina when she finds out Ines is an heiress. I'm also sure that Oriana is a heir and then, no harm no foul, right?

The only people who belongs in jail is JL, Eliseo and Joaquin. I do think though the good guys need to go to Manolo and Carmelo and confess the whole sordid story so the authorities can prosecute.

Not only that, but Raquel's possible pregnancy is spoiled too.

Jose, I saw Raqi getting preggers a mile away no surprise there. That being said, it might not happen-the bumpers aren't gospel.

A great recap. Loved your take on the Sebastardo/Mariano beat-down.

"Sebas has had enough 'spiritual counseling' for one night"

Thanks for this nifty recap, Paquita. Well done.

I've not been commenting on this TN this week even though I'm enjoying the episodes and especially the wonderful recaps earlier this week by Adriana Noel and Cynderella. Both were greatly appreciated and both were very amusing and informative. Now thatCI is finally wheezing to an end I'll be more attentive to the other two that I'm viewing... CI and LQLVMR.

I thought that the preoperative scene between Rick and María was very well acted, touching, and powerful. I hope that this is not the last we hear from María.

Something I noticed twice now with Rick was a clumsiness with wine glasses with breakage and spillage. Is this just a housekeeping hazard for Celio or does Rick perhaps have some underlying neurological disorder? Once an accident... twice... maybe a forewarning of something to come?

Carlos

Gracias, Paquita! I wanted to wait until I had time to sit and enjoy the recap instead of rushing through it...totally worth the wait :D And now I'm all caught up and ready for tonight's shenanigans.
