Por Siempre Mi Amor 12/18/13- Episode #11- Comedy and Misunderstandings Abound

Recap by J Desde NYC

Lo Refrito: Art sends a note and champagne to Isa to apologize for the misunderstanding that they were a couple by reception. Gaby says that despite her "cara de velorio" (face for a funeral; velorio means "wake"), it's obvious Cupid's arrow has hit Isa when it comes to Art.

Lo Nuevo:

Abue Ozzy comes to collect Ara.  Arriving at Ozzy's mansion she is separated from her dog Grenita, who can no longer be with her in Ozzy's house. Balthazar--a jolly-looking, hefty chauffer--takes Grenita away.

Mau talks with another guy (don't know his name) and says it's a shame Feo got out of jail on bail so quickly.  Mau mentions that they haven't been able to identify the blond-haired female accomplice on the tape with Feo.

Tita comes over to see Ara, tells Lucha she doesn't trust Sucia since the funeral, and is told by Lucha and Gabino that Ara is at Osvaldo's and was told by Sucia not to tell Art anything since Ara insisted on going with her granddad since her father wasn't in the house.

At the resort Bruno unpacks his bags, packed by Tita, to find little boy clothes.  He loves his mother, he insists as he goes through the little boy clothes, but he can't understand why she packed his bags that way. He goes to the hotel boutique with Art to buy new clothes and sees Gaby.  He explains the situation and Gaby jokingly calls him a mama's boy-hijo de mami--to his face.  She can't believe at his age his mom would be allowed to pack his bags. Bruno is not amused by Gaby's joshing, but is cordial nonetheless.

Back at Abue Ozzy dinner is served, and it's a burnt sickly looking cornish henthat Ara refuses to eat. Ozzy tries to open Ara's culinary horizons saying the cornish hen is a culinary delicacy, but Viewerville and Ara just sees something that looks like a burnt version of the poultry--allegedly--we were served at "Medieval Times" in 1994.  Ara wants cake or a sandwich since the burnt, skinny thing she's served will not satisfy anyone's hunger.   Abue Ozzy tells her that's the only thing they have for dinner and Ara excuses herself to go to her room.

Tita tells Art  about Ara being at Abue Ozzy's.  He's upset, of course, that Sucia made such a decision about Ara without his consent.  Why wasn't he called?  I want her to get to know her grandfather but not like this, Art argues.  Tita and Art decide that Tita is to get Ara in the morning.  Tita calls Ozzy, who doesn't take late night calls according to Balthazar so she decides a late-night visit is in order.

Gaby tells Isa about Bruno's hijo/nino de mami ways. Isa says Gaby is judging Bruno too harshly without knowing him and at this rate she won't ever find a man that suits her.  Gaby counters that Isa has feelings for Art and she shouldn't deny that either.

Ara, hungry, separated from her dog, gets a picture of her and her mom from her backpack and talks to it.  She tells her mom how lonely she is without any love, even that of her father since he left her.  Dafne was right, Ara concludes. "Why didn't you take me with you when you left, mom?" Ara asks.

MeanieMinn is behaving like a loving grandmother to her nietos--too nice for Esteban's comfort.  As she's offering and feeding Esteban and Angelito potato tortillas, Esteban is side-eyeing Abuela Meanie so hard, I'm surprised he didn't tell Meanie to taste the potato tortillas before he ate them for fear she had poisoned them.  He so doesn't trust his grandmother even as she gave him two tortillas and Angelito one, and is spoonfeeding Angelito.  I'm with you Esteban-don't believe the hype!

Back at the hotel Gaby, Isa, Art and Bruno are chit-chatting and drinking champagne.  Isa notes that they'd all make a perfect team since Art and Bruno are an architect and civil engineer respectively and she and Isa are designers and decorators with an ample client list in Mexico City (I think this is what Gaby said; correct me if I'm wrong).  The chit-chat and good feeelings amps up until Sucia shows up saying "Sorpresa".  Art looks horrified and upbraids Sucia for being there at the hotel instead of caring for his daughter as she should have been.  Isa and Gaby clear out thinking that Sucia is Art's wife, as does Bruno, to allow Art and Sucia to talk. Sucia gives her spiel, while drinking liquor profusely, that Ara insisted on going to Abue Ozzy's since her father wasn't in the house and she didn't want to stay there if Art wasn't there.  Art isn't buying this excuse and insists he should have been contacted.

Art decides to move the argument to his hotel room so as not to make a scene. Liquored-up Sucia tries to kiss Art, which he skillfully avoids, then conveniently faints as Art is upbraiding her.  Art concludes she must of been drunk already on the flight to the hotel. Bruno gets Isa and Gaby to help him get Sucia help and they do.  The paramedics that show up say Sucia needs to go to a hospital immediately and after some hesitation, Isa and Gaby decide to go in the ambulance with the guys and Sucia as a favor to Tita.  At the hospital Bruno lets Isa and Gaby know that the Sucia scene isn't what they think.  He's not a mama's boy and Art is a widow. Cara de impactada de Isa.

Thnak you, once again J for filling in. I'm not sure what is happening but I apologize for our team not having a timely Tuesday recap, but we are a work in progress. :-)
If anyone would like to recap on Tuesday, please let me know.
Thanks, again for doing the double duty.

TJ I just sent you an email. Now to read the recap

Great work, J!!! "Don't believe the hype", indeed.

I agree with you, Ozzy and Tita are a hoot. Though Ozzy didn't let Grenita stay in the house and he was a little gruff about dinner, I think he's a softie deep down. He may have been harsh with Arturo, but I'm hoping Aranaza can bring out his soft side.

Thanks so much J desde NYC for the emergency Tues. recap, once again. And we have your Wednesday recap to look forward to as well! I was thinking of taking a recapping break after CI ended, but if there is no one else for Tuesdays on this, I might volunteer to do quick Tues recaps. Perhaps someone wants to share Tuesdays with me?

In any case, this recap covered all the important points from Tuesday. Just two corrections-- it's Gonzalo who is out on bail; and Gaby said they had a lot in common with Art and Bruno because of their work. Also, we saw Gonzo meeting with some shady guy to do something to make money. Then we saw that shady guy stalking Isa's maid, Gema. This can't be good.

Loved Esteban giving Grandma Meanie the skeptical side eye, and then telling his mom about his doubts. He has her number.

Also, Gonzalo said something about having to check in every week with the cops while he's out on bail. And he mentioned not cracking under police pressure to say who the blond was. He played ignorant. Sonia is very lucky.

Sara- I hope you are volunteering to do Tuesdays. That would be awesome.

Just went back and read the recap. I read it quickly before. I see that you had what Gabi said exactly right, so ignore part of my above message.

J Desde NYC:

Thanks so much for this fab recap and doing double duty. Loved the whole recap, very succinct and to the point. Really like the title.

I too felt for Ara this episode. It was sad that poor Grenita was left outside and poor Ara couldn't get the window open to call to the dog. She does feel all alone and abandoned. Art should have waited to make this trip or he should have designated someone to go in his place, ya know delegate, delegate. I hope that Tita rescues her.

I hope Art now knows that So-not is soooo into him. If he doesn't get that, I don't know what will wake him up. He knows Ara really well, and I think he knows she wouldn't want to go visit an Abuelo she barely knows. I too don't think that Abuelo is that bad, he is a big softie inside.

Maybe there is something really wrong with So-Not, could that heart problem be genetic maybe? Eugenia and So-Not are cousins.

I am really glad that Bruno cleared the air about Art. It's funny how both Gaby and Isa jumped to conclusions.

Sadly I can't do Tuesdays on a permanent basis. I'll be doing next Tuesday and Friday and I'm trying to finagle the 31st of December as well.

Sara- Aww! That's a shame. We'll take what we can get from you.

I also think Ozzie is a softie underneath it all, but he has a ways to go. For example, when Ara asked to be excused from the table, she kissed her grandpa goodnight, and she was about to kiss the maid goodnight on her cheek, but Ozzie stopped her from doing that, pointing out that she doesn't have to do that with the servants. As we know, Ara has quite a different relationship with Lucha and Gabino in her home-- they are more like doting grandparents.

I know it was difficult to be away from her dad for the first time since her mother's death, but it has been three months, and Art has to work. He was only going away for less than a week. Ara is going to have to break out of this self pity and see and appreciate the people she has around her who love her. I know this is tough for a 9-10 year old to handle, but I also don't think this kind of self pity should be indulged.

I'm concerned about her NUMEROUS comments about wanting to die/be with mom and no one seems to be doing anything. And there's a child psychologist at the school!!! That is what that lady is, right?

I agree. That is really disturbing. But she seems to only be saying it to herself, not to other people-- at least not since she had the meltdown in the bathroom when Lucha and Art heard her say it three months ago. In last night's episode, one of the things Tita said to Ozzie is that the psychologist/doctor says that Ara can't have too many big changes in her life right now (like moving over to gramp's house), so it sounds like Ara has been seeing someone these past three months, not just the school counselor (who recommended the doctor after the fight with Dafne).

Thanks for that clarification. I zoned out on a couple of conversations last night.

Even if Ara is seeing a psychologist, having Sonia whispering in her ear is probably undermining that. I put a lot of the blame on her for Ara having such a hard time realizing/accepting how much the people in her life (Art, Tita, Lucha, Gabino, Bruno) love her. She is twisting that child's mind, and doing it in a way that makes it hard for other people to see. It's all about "our little secret" with her, just like the best child abusers, except it's not physical or sexual abuse, but instead emotional manipulation.

Yes. It's clear that Aranza's mother spent quality girl time with her and Aranza misses that which is why the "our little secret" BS is so effective. So-not is a master manipulator.

TJ, check your e-mail. I sent out my recap. Ozzie is a snob, but I think Tita will work on him, though. She's his class but more down-to-earth. I love him and Tita together, though. I also love her gray-haired wig.

Ara and her self-pity. I think Art made it worst by not showing Ara he was in as much pain as she is. Ara is an only child and was Eugenia world. Ara, Art and Genia did everything together so mom's death and Dad seeming to move on so quickly her question everything she knows about her family.

Sucia and Dafne don't help matters. I think Art and Ara need to just ave a heart-to-heart about the whole situation which will put things in pespective. I'm just saying Art has to take the lead, with help-a counselor, priest, etc-to help Ara get over her fears. He just seems to be outing fires as they come up, re Ara, not thinking through how his actions are interpretted by a nine year old girl.
If Ara wasn't an only child it might 've been better because she'd be more worried about a sibling than focused on herself. If Esteban and Angelito lost Andrea, I don't think esteban would be so self-pitying b/c he'd be focused on Angelito than himself. That's why I was saying in my last recap that a month long period of morning and reflection at home would've done Art and Ara a lot of good.

Great stuff; you caught what I missed.

Arturo really needs to get Sucia out of his house and his life. This episode shows she is completely untrustworthy but -- this being a novela -- he won't realize that for another 100 episodes or so.

The grandfather really needs to get over the dog. Aranza needs her canine friend. Being mean to pets -- as we all know -- is a serious red flag.

UA, I forgot to say 'hey' last time when you said Grenita isn't Tito since Grenita knows Sucia would've killed her. You're right. Tito defended Oriana and ended up gravely injured.

Only children need companionship, especially after trauma. Ozzie is a softy, though. He lit up when he heard Ara wanted to stay with him.

He does need to warm up to the dog. If he doesn't he will be in the doghouse with Arturo.

J, this was great - "steban is side-eyeing Abuela Meanie so hard, I'm surprised he didn't tell Meanie to taste the potato tortillas before he ate them for fear she had poisoned them" and "Liquored-up Sucia" were my favorites.

Liking the chemistry between Isa and Art but am feeling a "good friend only" vibe for Gaby and Bruno - perhaps some more convincing sparks will occur in the future.

I'm afraid for Gema Vivi!

Thank you for the insight as to why Sonia's maniputlations are working so well Sara.

And UA, "being mean to pets" IS a red flag, ITA...

Enjoying the show but the recaps and comments make it even better.

Diana

Thank you for the recap J! We really do appreciate it.

I agree with Aranza. That dinner at Osvaldo's looked pretty dicey. I like game hens, but I don't eat songbirds. That looked like roasted robin. What's next on Grandpa's menu? Snails and raw oysters? An aside, September's "Best Restaurants" issue of Bon Appetit featured a restaurant that serves fish heads. Not fish. Fish heads. What is there to eat on a fish head? And people pay for this. Sheeesh.

Any bets on how long Grandma Meanie goes before blowing a fuse? Esteban is so right to be wary.

Warning to Gaby: If he's a mama's boy fly -- do not run -- away as fast as possible. You'll never win.

Thank you for the recap. I missed the tail end of it, so I'm glad to know what happened.

Regarding fish heads: A friend who worked at a marina once got fish heads (golden tile fish, I think) as a gift from some commercial fisherman. He cut out the cheeks and cooked them as little medallions. They were very tasty, maybe the best part of the fish, but too much labor was involved for the restaurants that the fisherman sold to.

I'm glad you mentioned how Ozzie "lit up", J. Maybe I'm an idiot but the actors seem to be masters of facial expressions. It really helps time down the acting and keeps it from being too over the top. Not like I know anything about acting, but it is something I'm enjoying.

Oh and Art and Isa-- yes, lots of chemistry, but not just sexual tension. I see warmth and true friendship, affection and respect too. Yeah. I was grinning like a fool last night.
