Caray, Caray!

Hello Everyone! What a great game the 49ers/Seahawks game turned out to be! I almost couldn't breathe for the last five minutes. Holy Smoke! On to the Super Bowl! Go Hawks!

Fenando has donned a mask for this episode. Like they do in fashion I thought it would be fun to compare his masked visage with pictures of others in masks and play a game of "Who wore it best?"

Leftovers:
Sonia and Efraim visit Fernando in the hospital. Everything is arranged for his recovery and new identity after his nose job.

Nicholas has dinner with Bruno and Arturo. Nick makes a toast to Bruno's recent marriage which he heard about from Gabi.

Today's Dish:
Tita thinks Isabel has been foolish to cover up and/or downplay all Aranza's misdeeds to Arturo over the years. Even Ally thinks Aranza should have some limits. Isabel whines that she doesn't want to be the bad guy and besides it's too late now and I can't go back and fix things. Apparently Isabel doesn't have to worry about her own child being a monster because Rosemary's Baby is already living in the house.

Cuca and the Padre (that sounds like a 60's folk-rock duo) try to talk Mari into working at Gilberto's. They fear for her safety selling trinkets and perfumes on the street with the kids. Funny, they didn't seem to mind when she was being mistreated and humiliated at the orphanage. Why, they didn't even believe her when she told them about it! Mari storms out. Cuca and the Padre put their heads together and figure out that they'll have to find out where Mari's living and then "do something" about her situation. Which is the same thing that they've done for the last 18 years.

Gisela offers to take Meanie from the Bingo hall to where the real money can be won. A place that is reserved for a select group of suckers who want to win big! Gisela introduces Meanie to Corina who is the owner. Corina cautions that you can only enter the Casino if you're "financially solvent". Meanie assures them she's got money to lose bet! The three of them enter the magical world of Poker, Craps, and Roulette and sit down at a poker table.

Mari gives the girls some mangoes to share with the boys and they run outside. Borlas wants to know how things went with Cuca and the Padre. They asked all kinds of questions and wanted me to take a job with Cuca. But Mari doesn't want to do that because it will take her away from the kids. "We're a family." Mari and Borlas join hands. They agree that to keep the family together they'll have to stay away from the Padre.

Tita meets with the bikers and tells them about Mari and the kids. She had to sit and talk with her just to get her to allow the kids to take the food. Mari doesn't have much trust in anyone. Tita asks the bikers help to get Mari and the kids off the streets. They agree to take them on. Even better, they'll do what they've always wanted to do. They'll build an orphanage!

Sonia tells her doorman that she's got a sick friend living in her apartment. She wants him to keep it to himself and make sure that Rodolfo doesn't find out about it either. Understand? She slides a fat envelope to him. He understands.


Gabi arrives to take Isabel to her baby shower. Isabel has been thinking about the crib incident. Gabi notices her friend's sad mood and wants to know what's wrong.  "There's a problem with Aranza." When isn't there a problem with Aranza? Isabel will tell Gabi the latest on the way to the shower.

At lunch Nick fills Arturo and Bruno in on his life. He moved to Spain and moved around some more. Worked on some projects, wants to build green solar-powered post-consumer recycled plastic condominiums, yada, yada, yawn.

Gema checks on Angel's homework. She's going to the store. Does he need anything? He needs white cardboard. After Gema leaves Angel sneaks into Andrea and Mauricio's bedroom. If Gema stays true to form he should have the rest of the day to snoop. He opens the closet and checks the dresser drawers. Aha! He pulls out file folder and starts to rifle through it. "Where is my birth certificate?" Mini-Sherlock is interrupted by Mauricio who asks him what he's looking for. Surprisingly, the kid doesn't even try to lie. He comes right out and tells Mauricio he wants his birth certificate. Andrea and Mauricio have done a wonderful job with these kids considering who their father is! Mauricio takes the file folder and says he'll look for the birth certificate later. Angel runs out leaving Mauricio looking puzzled.

Driving to the baby shower, a very frustrated Gabi tries hard to understand why Isabel hasn't told Arturo about Aranza's 10-Year Reign of Terror. "Why haven't you set any limits with her? Are you afraid?" Gabi insists, "You need to face her." Isabel fears that if she tells Arturo the truth and it comes down to a choice between Aranza or Isabel, well Arturo will pick Aranza. So Isabel will just continue to be the target of Rosemary's Baby. Gabi tries one more time, "She's not a kid. She's 21! She needs to face the consequences of her actions!"

Esteban is fussing over Aranza taking off and going home. He is sure that something is wrong. Christian assures him that if there was truly something wrong, Dafne and Ileana would certainly tell him. Chill dude.

Mask #2

Aranza arrives at Sonia's. She needs to talk. The masked Fernando gets up from bed to listen in. It seems that damn Isabel told Arturo that Aranza destroyed the crib. Now my Dad is furious! Sonia and Aranza both agree that Isabel had no right to even think of using the crib. After all, Eugenia told Sonia that the crib was for Aranza's children not Isabel's spawn. Aranza asks, "Are you serious?" Fernando moves away from the bedroom door and thought bubbles about how pretty Aranza is.


Preparations continue for the baby shower. Isabel gushes over the cute décor and the food. The Mysterious Blue Box sits on the table.

Mask #3

Aranza continues her tale of woe. Mid-sentence she and Sonia hear a crash. Aranza asks, "Is there someone else in the apartment?" They run into the bedroom and find Fernando on the floor. Sonia explains this is her friend. He's been hurt and he's staying here. Fernando wants to go into the living room. Aranza guides him out then runs to get him a glass of water. Sonia asks, "What are you doing?" Fernando tells Sonia to play along.



Ally finds the carpenter working in Tita's closet. She wants to know about the work he's doing. Zenaida runs in and herds the carpenter out before he can answer. Ally hears a motorcycle. She'd sure like to talk to that neighbor. She likes motorcycles. One of her old novios was a biker and she'd enjoy riding again.

Mask #4

Aranza seems intrigued by the man in the mask but seems reluctant to continue her story. After Sonia assures Aranza that "Javier" is trustworthy Aranza starts in again on how much she hates Isabel. "Javier" urges Aranza not to let Isabel win. He has an idea...

Tita shows up at the house. Ally wants to know where she was. My house, my business. They talk about enchiladas.



Meanie's been on a lucky streak. She laughs as she piles up stacks and stacks of chips and gets ready to leave. The other ladies are down to a few measly chips each and insist that they be given the chance to try and win back what they've lost. Well what can it hurt to play a few more hands? Meanie motions to the dealer, "Deal me in."

Mask #5

Aranza goes on about the crib. "Mom promised me that crib." Which she didn't. But if the crib meant that much to you why did you destroy it? Oh wait, I forgot. This is Rosemary's Baby talking with Satan and his minion. "Javier" encourages her to go on. Sonia tells Aranza that "Javier" is very wise. She should listen to him. "Javier" likes the word "wise" and he likes being called wise. He gives Aranza more advice we don't get to hear.




Andrea, Isabel and Gabi discuss Fernando's death and Esteban's reaction. Isabel says maybe Andrea and Mauricio should have told him the truth right up front because "lies hurt". Isabel is irony deficient, but Gabi is not. She asks Isabel, "Then why have you been lying to cover for Aranza all this time?"

Arturo has to handle a situation at home. He says his good-byes and Bruno and Nick continue to talk. Nick doesn't want to his business and personal lives to conflict. He wants Bruno to know that he's asked Gabi to dinner and that he intends to start dating her.

Meanwhile, back at the baby shower the women talk chocolate strawberries. There are none because the quality wasn't good. But we have popcorn and cotton candy instead. What, no Brussels Sprouts or canned peas? What kind of a party is this? Isabel is eyeing the Mysterious Blue Box.

Esteban asks Dafne and Ileana, "What's up with Aranza?" In a surprising moment of honesty Dafne tells him Aranza destroyed the crib. He asks why but Dafne just shrugs. She dunno. Christian tries to talk to Dafne but she blows him off and leaves. He doesn't understand why she won't give him a chance. Ileana advises him to quit humiliating himself and give up on Dafne.

Gilberto may have picked out a college major that Daniel doesn't like, but he also picked out a sweet, sweet ride for him. He hands his son the keys to a BMW convertible. Something tells me this gift will not sit well with Sonia.

Lady Luck has turned her back on Meanie. Just when she thinks she's won another big pot, someone else turns over the winning hand. Meanie has just a few chips left. She wants to try another hand but Gisele says, "You don't have enough for your taxi ride home now." But Meanie thought Gisele was taking her home! Meanie glances at her watch, "Look how late it is! What will I tell my family?" Gisele suggests a few white lies, but Meanie guilt trips her into a ride home. As she heads for the door Gisele and Corine share a laugh at the rube's expense.

Aranza flounces in the door. Lucha lets her know Arturo is waiting in the study. She asks Aranza why she is so mean to Isabel. Aranza pulls away, "I don't have time for this." She flounces in to the study and asks rudely, "What do you want?" Arturo wants to know why she destroyed the crib.
"Crib? What crib?" Aranza insists she has no idea what he's talking about. She didn't do anything. This is sooo unfair. What if it was Isabel?
"Why would Isabel destroy the crib she was planning to use for our son?"
"To blame me for it."
"Isabel isn't that kind of person."

Back at the baby shower the Mysterious Blue Box is still waiting to be opened.

Mask #6

Fernando complains about wearing the mask. Sonia reminds him it will help him heal faster. He wants to know what Sonia thinks about his advice to Aranza. Sonia smiles, "She'll do exactly what you told her to do. She'll make Arturo doubt Isabel."

Arturo isn't buying Aranza's story. Aranza insists, "She did it to turn you against me." Aranza claims Isabel blamed her for ruining her wedding dress and she didn't do that either. "She blamed me and I was just a defenseless kid." She reminds Arturo that he really didn't know Sonia. "Maybe you just don't know the Isabel either."
He scoffs. "You can't compare Sonia to Isabel."
"They're very different. But you didn't know the real Sonia. You've been sleeping with the enemy for years. Maybe you just don't know the real Isabel."

Tita arrives with the cake. More baby shower stuff.

Daniel drives his new car in the area where he found Mari. He asks a street seller if he knows the girl who sells toys. The one with all the kids. "You mean Marianela?" He hasn't seen her today. Daniel muses, "Marianela." Now he knows her name.

At his desk Bruno thought bubbles the conversation when Nick told him he was going to start dating Gabi. Bruno asks out loud, "Why should I care if you date Gabi?" And to a picture of Ally he says, "I love *You*".

Aranza is laying it on thick. "Mom told me that the crib was for me and my children. She said if I had twins I'd have a hard time finding another crib to match it. She told me over and over the crib was mine. Why would I destroy it if it meant so much to her? It's Isabel's word against mine. I won't let her accuse me of these things anymore." Aranza stands and says she is headed back to school.
Arturo asks, "Aren't you going to the baby shower?"
"No. She did this to keep me away. Isabel is your wife and you believe her."
She wipes a tear and says, "Good-bye Papa. I love you." and heads out the door.
Arturo sits shaking his head. The doubts have been planted.

Fernando tells Sonia he doesn't care about his sons at all.
