Que Pobres tan Ricos # 22, 4 Feb 2014... Lupe commits #1 sin in TNs, acts on impulse with incomplete information. Nepo in heaven, MA acts like sore loser. Isela moves in with the newlyweds. Mini relieved, A-hole feels like Three's a crowd.

Refrito:
Grandma and Frida looking for ‘don’t know what, but its important’ Lupe comes over and asks what is going on, gives Mati some words of encouragement, you have your family who love and support you.
Lo nuevo:
Mati says her grandchildren are extremes. Frida is good although rebellious. Says Leo is very selfish, like his mom(THanks Vivi!)… OTOH grandson MA is the greatest, but A-hole is the worst… A-hole is the other side of the coin, he always has two faces, using the most convenient one every time. A-hole is the dark ship with white flag. The problem is the only ones that know him well are Aureliano and myself. A-hole doesn't even visit often so as to avoid running into Aureliano.

At Cabos hotel, right in middle of escalator, A-hole spots some guys coming in the other direction, and they were staring at Mini. He almost charges them as if they had made a pass at Mini. He definitely has anger issues to work on. the poor guys were just innocently looking at Mini. (why not, she is good eye candy for boys). Mini asks him how come he kept his fortune when MA was ruined by the scandal. A-hole won’t give details, changes subject to go visit the OB GYN to check if she is already expecting. Mini asks will you still love me when I am big and bulky? A-hole says I will always love you, but first things first!! (baby ASAP!)

Sleezy salesman Salomon is again on the attack trying to sweet talk AS. AS is singing the blues at having to get rid of some her valuable things. Leo on the other hand is playing the used car salesman (used gadgets/knickknacks). Salomon says now the mock-ups are very high quality. AS acts offended. They are willing to sell it piece by piece or the whole lot, which she estimates they can sell at $100,000. (wow!). Leo says that is a clearance price. Salomon says he does not carry so many denarius under his mattress. AS again acts offended. Leo pulls her away. He tells her ‘we have two options… eating at the fonda or eating outside the fonda…) A while later, They are talking food… Salomon is mentioning good tack and other homestyle food places around. AS calls them fritangas grasientas (slang for fried fatty greasy foods) Leo insists AS calm down. AS rants at him, sounds like you are ready to put me on the sale table… if you want a sale that bad, sell your grandma! A few steps away, Salomon is talking about AS (or rather drooling for her GAG!!! Dios los crea y ellos se juntan! (God makes them and they get together all on their own!)

Isela is playing the social circle talk game again with Chabelita and Genoveba They are again talking about Mini and A-hole. The ladies say A-hole is well off but he is not among the top 10 wealthy rich in Mex either. Chabela mentions that they are now in Italy. Genoveba is noting that Isela now will be rather alone. Chabela says the children fly away from the nest. They at least have their husbands. Isela shoots back, don’t talk like that, I don’t like to be undermined. But you both just gave me a great idea.

Gwendy and Nepo again exchanging notes. Nepo wants to be with Lupe… her eyes, her red apple mouth… Gwendy keeps reassuring Lupe will fall in his arms. Nepo not so sure. Yada yada… Nepo willing to wait just one more day. Gwendy does not appreciate his poetry. Better stick to your day job. Nepo keeps reciting verses for Lupita.

At attic, MA still having trouble with plastic covered chairs, Saul insists MA try to conquer Lupita, but not as a ‘project’, rather is encouraging the possibility MA and Lupita get together… Is the problem the fact that she has a baby with A-hole? (oopsie, Lupita was listening on other side of door and does not appreciate that MA shared that info with Saul).. Saul keeps insisting, is it the social differences? What is it that is stopping you from getting together with ‘la peladita del pueblo’ (the penniless girl in the street?)

Nepo remembers Gwendy advice about insisting with Lupe. He is outside the fonda hesitating about going in. Lupe goes into her living room, upset ‘how could I have trusted MA? I am so stupid!! (she hears Nepo outside and runs to get him). She tells Nepo she was heading over to talk to him. She asks him about what he asked her at the stadium… Nepo starts walking away thinking she is going to say no. But she says yes. And Nepo’s jaw drops. ‘this is the happiest day of my life’ and gives her a kiss, just in time for MA to watch the kiss part of the scene from the roof (ouch!! That hurt and I am not MA!, Lupita made the usual mistake in TNs, acting on impulse when upset after assuming the worst interpretation of what she ‘heard’ on other side of the door)… (yawn… ok, it’s a telenovela, lets lower expectations everyone. This is not supposed to last one month, more like 8 months since it is doing well in Mexico)

Don Chuy talking to another wrestling buddy. About old times. DC says lately he has the idea to relive those days even if just for one time/day. He admits he needs money. He proposes his friend a good deal, he has issues at home, can’t let down the family. Lets put together a great wrestling event. (does anyone picture MA in a wrestling ring? That is what comes to my head, somehow he will put MA in there). ‘come close to my ‘warmth’, mi chino’… the other guy seems on board with the idea.

Back to MA’s heart devastated at watching the Nepo/Lupe kiss. Lupe pulls away from Nepo, we are not a couple teens on the street. Nepo apologizes. Don’t try to go too far. If we are going to have a relationship, easy does it. We have been friends for many years. I need some time to assimilate that our relationship is getting deeper. She is also afraid what Emi’s friends will say about his mom and her new boyfriend. She wants him to leave, its late. Nepo begs for another kiss. She French-kisses his cheek… he is in seventh heaven dancing his way home. Lupe smiles as he leaves, then she wonders what she just did, calling herself ‘Guadaluuuuuuuuu-pe!’ Saul tries to talk to MA when he comes back in the room in attic, he is visibly affected, and gets angry when Saul says ‘after all, seems like ‘la peladita’ is not so enthused/enchanted with you’. MA says well, we will have to figure out a way for the Menchaacas to let us stay. He has to do something. Saul seems to take it as a joke, MA gets angry. He wants Saul to get an appraiser to put a price on the property. Saul reminds him ‘you are in no position to claim ‘conditions’ on the Menchaacas. Saul: you are jealous. (this sends MA into overdrive anger attack… reminds me of the faces ‘Omar’ put when he realized ‘Fernando’ was honest when he admitted loving Leti).

Frida and Jose Tizoc, Jose says they are penniless… Jose’s friend is smitten on the looks of Frida. Frida has some ideas for the group to promote themselves using the Fonda for marketing. Jose Tizoc undermines it as her idea, claiming he had the same idea earlier. Frida leaves offended.

Back with the honeymooners… he keeps wanting to roll, she keeps dancing around with excuses… OMG guess who’s coming to dinner! Dear mom in law Isela!! (ah! They are back from honeymoon… they are at his apt… she tells him she has ordered someone to remodel her penthouse, so she is moving in with them until her place is ready. He promises A-hole that they will not even notice her presence… Mini relieved she is there, A-hole rolling his eyes and breathing hard.

MA back in plastic covered chair… he is still irritated and takes it on Saul. MA tells Saul they need to get evidence, leads, to prove his innocence ASAP. MA is totally out or control, ripping the plastic around. Saul takes some precaution distance away while MA is ‘trashing’ the place.

At A-hole’s, he asks Isela how long will the remodeling take. She lists for him all the changes, and adds she is short in money. Mini offers A-hole as source for some funds. A-hole asks didn’t your dead husband leave you some? Isela gets close to him, pinches his cheeks and notes he has no other relatives so you wouldn’t mind… He takes his exit, taking Isela’s bags to the room. Mini tells Isela about the ‘grandpa clause’. Isela says no wonder A-hole was in a hurry to marry you. Mini still nags about her body image if she gets pregnant. Isela says you bite your lip, we need to get preggers ASAP. You keep ‘flojita y cooperando’ (easy and willing??) … Later they keep arguing… Isela claims she had a rough time when she was pregnant with Mini. Mini says all for keeping the marriage and my husband’s money. Mini asks Isela if the remodeling is true. Isela says don’t be stupid. You have to manage to get him to put a bank account on your name alone and increase the credit limit on your card. Force him to give you a good monthly stipend, I am not used to limits and restrictions. Mini claims if she is to lose her body frame, A-hole will pay dearly for it… (these two can’t deny each other, they definitely share genes!!)

MA looks around the fonda, still sad/irritated, Lupita is on counter by him orally writing a list of groceries.

L: What do you want?

MA: A glass of water, go ahead and write it down, your brother said you all will write down everything we take.

L: Remember that you have ONE WEEK to leave here.

MA: Remember you all have ONE WEEK to pay what they owe on the property. And… I never forget what I HEAR, and less what I SEE.

L: I don’t forget what I SEE or what I HEAR either!

(they end up the argument wishing each other ‘good night’ with angry tone but you can tell they are both rather questioning what they are feeling).

MA is sleeping, Lupe comes over him, says she could not sleep, without first giving him something. He asks what, she kisses him… Suddenly Saul calls his name and wakes him up.

S: Didn’t you say she does not move anything in you? You are even dreaming of her!

MA: Why do you say I am dreaming of her?? (I have to double check this line, will update tomorrow)

S: You are still dreaming!

(true, MA sits up and realizes he is alone with Leo, takes the coat/plastic away from him.

Leo complains to MA that he will get sick if he continues sleeping in the cold attic. He is FED UP FED UP!! MA rants at him for being a bum… Leo reminds him MA promised he would get them out of the situation, mentions Picasso and Stravinski.
[ Mads helped me with this one section:  MA wants Leo to get a job, but Leo doesn't want to, he looked at his hands and said which shall I choose to be like Picasso or Stravinsky? He wants to be a painter or composer. I hope Don Chuy puts him to work. Oh and Leo thinks some of the money they get from the Menchaca's will pay for his art or music school.]

Leo threats that he will leave. MA says go ahead make my day. (leaves to try to sleep elsewhere)…

At breakfast downstairs, Menchaaca family and Carmelita are eating together… DC jokes that ‘everything was nasty, no jk, everything was delicious’. (very nice family environment).

Lupe asks Perla how is it going with her job at the beauty parlor. She jokes around, but says it is ok.

DC says its time to go ‘get the pork chop’, he says they have to put together the money for the RP so they can kick them out. In comes MA as if called over. MA is trying to be cheerful, but DC is not buying wha the is selling. MA says he is arranging for an appraiser to determine and tell them the value of the property. That way we will find out if you all owe us 300,000 or… or more (says this and takes a couple steps back in precaution to their reaction).

Previews: Gwendy comes over and congratulates Lupe on being Nepo’s girl. We see MA hugging Lupe, but not sure why or if it is soon after that announcement.

Marta- I just started reading the recap, but I had to make one correction. Mati didn't say Frida was selfish, just like her mom. She said that about Leo. She said Frida was good, but rebellious.

OK. All done. Thanks so much for getting us a recap in record time, Marta.

I was glad that Lupe didn't seem to hear the part about MA seducing her, but instead realized he told Saul that Alejo is Emiliano's dad. That makes him look like a blabbermouth, but not like a creep.

Poor Nepo. Lupe is going to break his heart.

I was laughing at Leo's willingness to sell his mom to Don Soloman. Why do they call him Gonzalo?? I'm guessing AS will soon give in to him and at least have that meal he was suggesting.

Thanks Vivi. i was typing as I watched and missed exactly her wording there. making the fix now.
I agree with you that it could have been worse if they repeated the LFMB 'dreaded junta day' scene with Lupe hearing the entire thing behind the door. agree that MA is no ho or creep, just talks too much.

Marta:

Thanks for this lovely recap. I missed about twenty minutes so this helped me enormously! One other little thing. MA wants Leo to get a job, but Leo doesn't want to, he looked at his hands and said which shall I choose to be like Picasso or Stravinsky? He wants to be a painter or composer. I hope Don Chuy puts him to work. Oh and Leo thinks some of the money they get from the Menchaca's will pay for his art or music school.

I can see why Lupe is mad at MA for telling Saul about Emi, but getting with Nepo isn't the answer. I am glad MA is jealous, but I like the fact he is moving forward to try to prove his innocence. The sooner he does that the better.

Granny Mati is a hoot, and it seems Gramps A didn't like Ahole either. That was interesting to find out.

Mini and her Mama Isela are so much the same. Money, money, money. I had to laugh at Ahole oogling those women on the escalator when Mini's back was turned, and Isela getting ribbed by AS's friends about Isela being alone now.

MA's dream was telling wasn't it? I loved the dream within the dream.

Thanks again Marta for this most splendid recap!

Thanks so much Marta. I was a terrible rebel last night and I did NOT watch the episode. Maybe I'll try again tonight. Anyhoo, I really appreciated your details because I watched last night's episode this morning without benefit of reading a recap beforehand and I needed your clarifications. Not to mention that when Jaime starts his schtick it distracts me (and he's yelling at the same time and talking fast.) I really don't understand a thing.

Isela is hilarious. I loved when she told Min that when she was pregnant she cried like a pig going to slaughter (If I heard correctly.)

I'm really not happy with Lupe's decision to be Nepo's girl.

Vivi, I keep wondering why they call Solomon Gonzalo as well.

Thanks, Marta, for the great recap.

Things that made me laugh a lot:

MA and the slap stick schtick with the plastic on the chairs.

Salomon putting the moves on AS.

MA's dream.

MA and Lupe arguing about not forgetting what is
"heard" and "seen".

Isela telling Minerva that as a baby Minerva cried like "a pig in tha slaughterhouse."

Lupe calling herself "Guadaluuuupe" and MA "Miguel
Aaaaangelo.

Well, enough laughter and out to shovel a half a foot of snow. :(

Jarifa

Thanks for the recap Marta!

Pelada/pelado means someone without manners due to low education.

I think Mati has all her family well figured out. I wonder what kind of relationship Don Aureliano had with Frida and Leo if he was aware of Alejo and he still considered him in his will but not them.

Jarocha

That reminds me. What's the significance of "lo rudo lo rudo lo rudo"? Did I miss that info?

Thanks for the recap, Marta! I love being able to relive each episode after seeing it.

So I got my ENTIRE avances wrong Monday night... Lupe didn't hear what I expected her to hear, and it was Lupe and not Gwendy who was climbing all over MA in his dream. (I really thought it was Gwendy!!)

Did they call Sharky "Gonzalo" again? (I didn't notice this time) Maybe that other name was just the Menchacas' nasty nickname for him and he answered to it? So his actual name would be Salomon Gonzalo... or maybe Televisa was actually sensitive to something important for once and change his name.

Some asked yesterday what Mati's son was like, to end up married to someone like AS. If I recall correctly, sometime during the first week she told MA (or possibly Alejo, thinking he was MA) that Don Aureliano was tough on his grandsons because his own sons had turned out so useless/disappointing.

In other words, he had spoiled his own sons, regretted it, and then overcompensated with his grandsons by being too strict. (But only the oldest grandsons, obviously.)

My theory is that MA and A-hole were relatively grown-up by the time Aureliano passed (so they were old enough for Aureliano to demand some things from them and be dissapppointed if he got something different.) frida and Leo might have been just small children (my guess, since Frida was so fond of him) when Grandpa died.

Thank you for the recap, Marta.

I propose that in Grandpa's mind, he wasn't giving away a fortune, but control over the business he'd invested his life into. He wouldn't consider giving that to anyone but MA or Alejo. Not because Frida is a girl and Leo is a twit, but because MA is the firstborn. As the eldest male of his family, MA was responsible for the others. If MA got the company, Frida and Leo would be provided for because MA would give them high-level jobs as he had done for Alejo and MA.

Another thought, in response to why Alejo was included in the grandfather clause if Aureliano knew he was a bad apple:

The other night, I'm pretty sure MA referred to "clauses" (not just ONE clause) when he was speaking to Lupe. It is possible that there are additional clauses yet to be revealed, such that if Alejo "wins," additional restrictions will be placed upon him? For example, restrictions that could force him to remain married in order to keep the presidency; spend a certain amount of time with his child (no sending him to boarding school overseas); give up the presidency if MA's wife has boy; etc.

I mean, if Aureliano didn't trust Alejo, I figure there must be some other reason to give him a shot at the job. A booby-trap of some kind.

What I meant just now is that perhaps there were other clauses previously, and that's why MA used the plural; I don't mean that he knows or suspects that there are more. It just makes ME think there are more.

Weirdly last night annoyed me on a couple of fronts although I did have some laughs. Two characters acting like pimps - Iselda basically telling Min to suck it up get pregnant, have the brat and we'll be rolling in money and Leo doing his insipid level best to get Mom to go out with the slick Pawnbroker.

MA's attack of the plastic got old quickly. Why on earth repeat the schtick four or five times when once would have ben enough? Why does he and he alone slide off the furniture like he's been greased while Saul sits calmly watching the idiocy? Reminded me way too much of LFMB chair high jinks. I was amazed when he actually finally had enough and ripped up all the plastic on the chairs. Most normal thinking people would have done it days ago but not the RP's. I must say that the furniture plastic industry must thrive in Mexico as the couch in the Menchaca house is also covered with plastic.

Ahole's expression when Suegra Dearest arrived to stay was worth the price of admission.

Lupe disappointed me last night with her junior high decision to become Nepo's novia just because she overheard MA and Saul mentioning that Emiliano was Ahole's son. Granted it was a betrayal of trust but still a gross overreaction and dragging in an innocent who will be hurt. She should be ashamed of acting like a child.

Sara: You mean when Don Chuy and the Menchacas start chanting "los rudos, los rudos, los rudos"?

If that's what you mean they are doing a cheer for the rudos remembering the times when Don Chuy was a fighter.

In Mexican lucha libre the fighters pick a "side" to be in when they start their careers: rudos or técnicos.

The técnicos fight by sticking to a set of moves and behavior that allow for a clean win.

The rudos use everything they can to win, including more force than usual, tauting, tricks, etc.

It's very common to see a rudos vs técnicos set of fights, those set the crowds crazy. When they do the people who support the rudos start chanting "los rudos, los rudos, los rudos" at the begining or when they start winning.

About the will:

Julie:

I don't think there's an additional clause just for Alejo or he'd be complaining about it on screen all the time.

Paula:

I think that you have the right reasoning, as he put all the RP fortune that already belonged to his father to MA so he could administrate the family.

Still, I think giving the fortune to the granchild with the first born son still makes him sound like the kind of man who would have had trouble giving the company to Frida if she was the oldest.

Jarocha

No, no. These would be yet-unrevealed clauses.

Alejo wouldn't know anything about them until he does something to trigger them. Just like they didn't know about THIS clause until the doctors declared Mati incompetent to run the company. Alejo had assumed he'd automatically be put in charge, but then the clause was revealed.

There could be a whole series of clauses intended to thwart and annoy Alejo AND motivate MA to become more involved in the company. Certainly the threat to MA of getting shut out entirely and having to support his entire family was effective - he was into it up to his elbows in no time.

Thank you Jarocha!

Hi guys, I'm new to this novela. I usually only watch LQLVMR. But I've been catching up. :)

Does any one else get the sense that the thing that Dona Mati is looking for is gonna turn out to be pretty important??

Welcome, Sonia - we were in fact discussing that very thing on the recap for Monday's episode.

It could be a legal document proving the ownership of the Menchaca home; evidence that Alejo was the reason they were over-medicating Mati in the nursing home; something really special that will cheer up MA or soften Chuy's heart at a crucial moment; a key to a safe deposit box; or a bunch of magic beans.

But we can be sure that it will turn up at just the perfect time for plot convenience. ;-)

Thanks Julie, ok yeah I figure it will be revealed at the perfect moment. Lol

Thanks for this recap, Marta. What fun.

While I'm pulling for MA and Lupita, I'm very fond of Nepo. He seems so sincere and is so smitten by Lupita. She could (and has) do much worse.

Alejo was very funny complaining about those guys looking at Minerva and the being distracted by the parade of beauties heading up the escalator as Minerva didn't even seem to notice or care.

MA's war with plastic furniture coverings has suckered me in... I look for it much like the chair scramble in LFMB. I'm easily entertained... especially by goofy anticipated repetition.
