Que Pobres Tan Ricos #25, The bust with a secret... the Nopalera real estate hidden GEM... and the Mystery Grandpa Clause!

Mini and Mini Mom find the new safe in closet. Mini mom demands Mini find out the safe combination. Mini tells her there is another safe in the library shelves. Mini knows the combo for this one, Mini mom wants to open it right away, but Mini more curious as to what is in the closet one.

Saul and MA arrive at Adolfo’s, but too late, he came and went already. Saul asks MA what was his plan if he found himself face to face with Adolfo… MA stays quiet.

At fonda, Jose tells Lupe about his plans for a concert, just need some moolah. Lupe not enthused. There is no money. Perla is no help to Jose either. Lupe sends her away with a food delivery. Lupe tells him go ahead and plan something here but I can’t help you with money. Jose gets a bit deflated. Emiliano is hearing all of it from behind the wall. He hears when Lupe tells Jose she has no dreams anymore (no sueno ni con castillos de arena ‘I don’t dream even about sand castles’)

Mati keeps looking… AS is irritated at Mati looking and looking… Suddenly Mati realizes she is looking for a document (DUH!) and just like it came, it goes, she can’t remember anymore what she was looking for. LOL!

Up by attic, Lupe and Carmelita are hanging some laundry. AS comes out. We can tell Carmelita does not like AS at all. Mati comes out. And same story outside, came out looking, but already forgot what was looking for. AS looks though her boxes. AS nags and nags about not having anything decent to wear… Mati looks through a photo album. AS comes out and asks Lupe and Carme for a dry cleaners for fine clothes. Carmelita and Lupe just laugh her off, there are only Laundromats around here… AS then suggests Carmelita wash AS’s clothes… Carmelita says ‘do it yourself, it might help soften your hands…’ AS then turns to Lupe… reminds her about the good Samaritan. Lupe says she is real busy but could show/teach her how to wash by hand. AS gives in and heads to get her ‘dirty’ clothes.

At fonda Jose and his friend are doing a two-guy pep rally for their concert. Frida comes out and mocks them about the ‘mega-show’ they have coming up. She takes a drink (soda or beer), Jose says will write it down, or are you going to steal that drink as you stole the chicken?)… some girls come by and Frida kind of brushes them all off… we can tell Frida is just a little bit jealous. The girls as ‘who is this?’ Jose says my cousin Frida. He whistles to her, she tries and only gets laughed at again.

Lupe is done teaching AS how to do laundry. Lupe says ‘good luck’. Lupe exits and out comes Frida. AS wants Frida to wash her clothes. That would make her feel like she belongs with the ‘popolacho’.

Mati runs into a photo of a bust (guess whatever is hidden inside the bust)… she goes in, asks AS about the bust they gave her and her husband in an anniversary. AS mocks the ‘gift’ and says you go find it. Mati shrugs her shoulders in disgust and leaves. Frida nags about her hands getting messed up from the washing… AS lays a Mr Miyagi ‘softly, suavecito, wash on, wash off’…

(OMG, really? Don Aureliano gave his son and AS a bust of himself on their anniversary? Talk about helping AS have nightmares!!)

Lupe comes in, MA comes from other side, she reminds him what they had agreed on. But she has not been able to put together all the money they owed them. She has only got some 20,000 pesos… She thinks they can move out with that. HE thinks 20,000 is nothing. She counters saying some people make it for at least a month with 6,000. They argue… something about the blood boiling and her hitting too hard. She can’t understand why he feels like he has to answer for and maintain his family. He counters to her that she maintains her siblings. But they help out with the chores at the house and fonda. And if we put some money together why can’t you use that? MA: that’s not much at all. Until you pay the whole debt, I can’t get my family outahere. She says ok, never mind, and leaves… at the door turns and sort of gives the fin… well, not sure if she did, have to check later. He stays talking to himself… no I can’t do much with that, I can’t…

Mati comes out with the bust… Frida is scrubbing AS’s clothes. AS nags that she is too rough on her fine clothes. She coms down the stairs, and drops the bust… MA and AS come out to help her. MAti tells AS she broke the bust… AS is thanking the heavens… MA finds a document among the shredded porcelain. Mati gets real happy, THAT is what I was looking for! MA reads, seems interesting.

Jose and friend are rehearsing… same song they sang the other day, the one inspired by Frida. She feels pretty but she is nag-gy… meanwhile Frida nags about having to do AS’s laundry and on top with the music background. Later Frida comes downstairs and keeps complaining that they are even dedicating the song to her.

MA asks Mati about the document… Mati says it is about a castle Don Aur had… MA realizes it is about another real estate property Grandpa had. She asks him to keep reading. MA says wait, but this is talking about the Menchaaacas place… and according to this document, this house is worth a fortune! MA keeps pessimistic, with our recent luck draw, it surely is a prank from Grandpa… Mati says Grandpa never kid around like that. Aureliano always told her she was his queen and he was her king… (CRASH!!! Glasses breaking), Frida just dropped the basket with wet clothes (intentionally of course) on top of Jose and the amplifier equipment of Jose’s, he knows it but she denies it.

Upstairs, AS complains about the noise, Leo says it is probably a carnival/fair in town… Leo finally gets an idea, maybe he should write a symphony about the chaos of their life lately and society… AS keeps nagging about that and everything else… she is going downstairs to impose order.

Lupe and Don Chuy also come down, Lupe yells for everyone to control themselves. Don CHuy says the RP will have to pay for the window they broke. Frida continues to insist she dropped the basket on accident. MA defends her… ‘she did not intend to do it’ … ‘ or did you?’… AS comes down… ‘you poor guys are experts in exaggerating everything!’… AS realizes her wet clothes are all over the floor and that is what she cares about. Frida and MA tell her its just clothes, AS keeps whispering to MA that she is about to have a heart attack.

A-hole and Vilma are wherever they needed to go to meet this mysterious ‘capo’ who is going to launder money at their company. El Senor Bambi (LOL!!) Vilma keeps trying to get A-hole to change his mind, but to no avail.

The girls who were listening to the boys had grabbed the table cloths to cover themselves but Lupe rips them off them… the girls run away. Lupe is cleaning the floor. She tells Frida to stop nagging. Frida insults her. Then we have Don chuy rejoin the chaos from upstairs where he is checking the broken window. AS keeps whispering to MA that her heart will stop. Mati asks what is going on. MA says he has some money here (from the watches he pawned). He wants to give Don Chuy the money to pay for the window… he can’t conceive that Don Chuy will fix the window himself. MA only conceives hiring someone to do it and paying them for it. Lupe says we just do it differently around here, for your info.

Adolfo joins A-hole, Vilma and Bambi (turns out this Bambi is played by Luis Gatica, the same Bambi who was part of the company board earlier? I don’t get it). Bambi says thanks to Adolfo, he had already injected some money into the company… and he also played a part in framing his cousin MA… but he has one complaint to make, that he was not invited to A-hole’s marriage to the ‘WOMAN!!!’. A-hole and Vilma undermine the comment. A-hole hands him the contract.

Back at Menchaaacas, MA is still trying to pay Jose Tizoc for the broken window and ruined equipment. Jose says that is not enough. MA asks ‘didn’t you say you all fix everything yourself?’ Jose says one thing is the window and other is electronics like the music equipment. They leave with the money. Lupe walks over to MA, it is getting time for you all to leave here. Ever since you came its been fight/argument after fight/argument.

MA in Saul’s car again… MA is trying to convince Saul that the house is worth millions… Gives the papers to Saul. Saul tells MA there was a deal a long time ago. And the property was appraised back then. The appraisal was made by a very prestigious appraisal company. MA will go investigate. … but wait! MA has an idea! (I don’t know if we should celebrate or turn on our shields)

At A-hole’s Mini Mom(oh my! She looks pretty bad without makeup, really pale and older) is celebrating what they are finding in the safe. But they undermine the contents of this safe as ‘poca cosa’ (not much at all). Mini keeps saying there must be something really important in that other safe. Mini mom keeps insisting that she needs to get the combo from her husband.

MA and Saul are at the prestigious real estate company. It is a pre-contract that was signed many years ago. The real estate company had a project to build a fine neighborhood in the lands that are now ‘la nopalera’ Don Aureliano had agreed to sell his land there but a time later he said he was no longer interested. Don A split the land into small lots that he sold gradually. He only kept one lot that meant a lot to him. He made them deposit a large sum of money, as a trust for the owners of the lot. (turns out, per MA that Don CHuy and his family are heirs of Don Aureliano!) The guy explains that Don Au deposited $1Million dollars… to be given to whoever would bring the document and the deed to the property. There is a family Menchaaaca living there… and there is a clause about them stated in the document that cannot be opened until those documents are presented… MA dreads another ‘grandpa clause’ holding them back. Walking out of there, Saul recommends MA not to mention anything to the Menchaaacas about this. MA says alright, but I have to find a way to take ownership of the Menchaaaca house.

Mini calls A-hole. She hears women laughing and gets angry at him. A-hole loves that she is jealous. She insists he explain what women he is with. He says it is the secretaries bringing him the documents to sign. Mini hangs up and nags to her mother, she had to give him ‘the jealousy scene’ . Mini mom keeps insisting they have to figure out ‘where we will find a baby’.

Previews: repeats MA intent to take property of the Menchaaacas… Voice over says ‘and also Lupita’s heart’.

I will rewatch tomorrow morning and clarify the couple holes i indicated.

Thanks, Martaivett, I think you got it all!

The plot advanced very nicely tonight with the mysterious document hidden in the bust. Now what will the next clause say re: the Menchacas and the property? Will it be something the Ruiz-Palacios are going to want to hear?

Frida is still the spoiled kid with her intentional dumping of the laundry and not lifting a finger to help Lupe clean it up. Talk about still feeling entitled!

I love Minerva on the case with the safes and sure hope she finds the other combination and uncovers Alejo's secrets.

MA continues in the same clothes. How long has it been? In the intro it always shows him in different clothes and ironing so I guess there is hope. Very funny.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I don't like the sound of Saul and MA keeping the deposit and the clause secret while MA finds a way to take ownership of the house. Those are the actions of bad guys...

I also haven't watched yet, but ITA, Sara. I can't believe MA is going to play dirty again after what Don Chuy did last episode. Has he learned nothing? Has he no shame, no sense of loyalty?

Thanks Marta, well done.

I didn't understand why MA insisted that he and Saul exchange roles at the real estate company. It made for some very funny dialogue but didn't seem necessary.

Carlos

Es el colmo!!! That's it, I don't like MA anymore. "How can I swindle the Menchacas out of a million dollars?"

In one fell swoop, that betrays:
A. Family (his grandfather wanted Chuy to have it)
B. Human decency (Chuy gave them a place to live, declined to reduce the debt, and didn't get MA arrested, and this is how MA thanks him???)
C. Honesty (it's indefensible to swindle anyone out of $1M, much less a family who would end up on the street)
D. love (he must already recognize that he has feelings for Lupe)

This is not the behavior of an unperfected hero. This is the behavior of a villain!

Paula, I agree that the MA character is turning out to be much more multidimensional than originally presented. He is still so much a Ruiz-Palacios with a bit more heart/ethics than Alejo. Guess Guadaluuupe Menchaaaca will have to turn him around but I have a feeling his character will be revealing more ugliness before that happens.

I've watched the episode again and I guess I'm not *as* mad at MA. He was a little jerky about the 20,000 mil pesos. He and Lupe are definitely coming from completely opposite places.

And really I guess Saul was the first to mentioning keeping the news from the Menchaaacas and MA is going along with it.

Where the hell is Da Vinci?

Ugh! MA is going through an ugly phase. I am rationalizing that the stress is bringing out his worst. He's sure no noble Chucho, always springing up to find the best side of everything. Grandma Mati will help him find his better angel/values.

It seemed like Mini may be getting ahead of Isela in figuring out how to take advantage of Ahole? What do you think is in la otra caja fuerte?

I think that Saul wasn't so much telling MA to screw the Menchacas out of their house but just to be quiet about it until they could figure things out. MA took the lower leap. The entire RP clan, minus Mati, Is self absorbed and pretentious and that includes MA. It's been at least a week since they invaded the Menchaca house and not one of them lifts a hand to do anything. Even if some of us are guests in someone's house we help but not them. All they do is lay around suck up oxygen and bitch about their sad state and the naco's they have to live with. To date they have learned nothing,

I had hope for Frieda who fancied herself one of the people and yammered on about her gente and her pueblo. Nope she is just as pretentious as the rest. I think her original tack was just to irritate her family and get a little attention. Now that she is down among the people she does nothing but put on airs. I can't believe she was stupid enough to throw water on electronics. I guess whatever fancy school she went to didn't teach her how dangerous that can be. And oh yeah she was jealous of those girls hanging on TJ.

As for Da Vinci he has probably washed is paws of the RP's and is hiding out somewhere.

Thanks for the recap!

I'm disappointed in MA too. I think he really does know better, even though right now he's pretending he doesn't. He still seems to have trouble seeing the connection between business and the way it affects real people's lives. You would think he'd have a better grasp on that after everything his family just went through, but he still has blinders on.

Frida was a brat in this episode, but I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. She seems really alone, and getting made fun of by a group of her peers probably didn't feel so great.

Rikki

Oh yes, Thank you Martaivett! I enjoyed the episode after reading your recap. Knowing what's going to happen helps so much. I love spoilers so I read the recaps first.

Just caught up. Thank you Marta for the wonderful recap. I wouldn't be able to keep up if it wasn't for all the work you do. You and Julie-double duty right here, Madelaine here and on another show, double duty. Wow! You all are the best!

Rikki, I felt bad for Frida as well when she was on her own against 5 people laughing and making jokes about her. And, despite some mild complaining, I thought Frida was pretty game to wash her mom's clothes. I do wish the writers had not had her damage JT's sound equipment though. That was pretty awful; water and wet clothes on the three girls would have been effective enough.

Since the show ended on the comment MA made about usurping the Menchacas, I reserve judgement until tonight's show to see if MA clarifies what he means. I did find him insufferable when he was telling Lupe how the money she could give him was nothing. I'm not really sure what Lupe sees in him! Smelly and arrogant!

My guess is that Ahole's involvement with Bambi is going to cause MA some big problems in the future.

I miss DaVinci!

Barbara

Marta- I still haven't had the chance to watch yet, but many, many thanks for this recap. I guess tonight we'll find out what MA intends to do. I hope he redeems himself.

I'm impressed that Frida washed her mama's clothes by hand. It seems that throwing the wet clothes on JT's equipment was an impulsive move that came from jealousy and feeling excluded. Hopefully, she will quickly see the error of her ways and make ammends.

Marta:

Thanks so much for this most marvelous recap!

I am mad at MA too. The Menchacas have done so much for him and his family that I don't like the direction he is going in. I agree with Paula on this. This is a villains behavior unless he rethinks what he is doing.

I hope Mini and Isela get into the safe. I wonder if all the fraud paperwork is in there. Ahole is just stupid enough to have a paper trail. Isela would probably get rid of it, but Mini, I wonder.

Both families are at fault here. It's like oil and water with both of these families. I think that MA should have sat down with Don Chuy in the beginning and told him all. I think Don Chuy would have found a way to help him out. Instead, both schemed to get the other out. I bet if they all sat down and talked they could see a way out of this. But that's wishful thinking. This is a TN and it will be awhile before anything is resolved.

I agree about Frida. What she did was dangerous with the electronic equipment and so unnecessary. She is feeling left out. She ought to be helping around the Fonda.

And why do the RP's continue to dress up? Don't they own a pair of jeans or something? They stick out in that neighborhood like sore thumbs.

Speaking of which, did anyone notice that fur coat, just lying on the chair as Granny Mati was searching for that document? That would make a great blanket, just saying : )

Thanks for the recap! Cleared up a lot for me.

I am completely disgusted with MA, not just for the million dolla issue, but also for trying to pay for the stuff Frida broke. He needs to get over seeing himself as the grandmaster of the family at least enough to let them have a little responsibility for themselves. Even if it was an accident, which it wasn't, Frida is the one who did the damage so she should be the one to make reparations, even if that means she does a lot of housework and washes dishes in the fonda since she has no money. It isn't like she has anything else to do.

Frida is still young, though, and teens are notorious for impulsive behavior and poor abilites to consider consequences, so I think she will improve and become a better person eventually. I did feel bad for her when everyone was making fun of her.

I'm pretty sure I've also seen something that looks like a big comforter or something in the heap of stuff in the VIP shed. These people are not even trying.

I hope MA doesn't get his hands on that money. The Menchacas could live forever on that much. The Ruizpalacios would be broke again within a year.

That fur coat has been used as a blanket by Leo. He and MA have fought over it. So, MA gets some money for the watches and buys the cheap phones but NEVER thinks to buy a blanket or even go to the market and get a cheap serape to keep himself warm at night. I swear the RP's haven't got a lick of common sense among the lot of them.

Thanks, Marta. "I don’t know if we should celebrate or turn on our shields" - LOL! Well said. That's how I feel about every twist in this story.

I have fallen behind again. I watched Thursday's episode over the weekend, but not Friday's. So I'll reserve judgment on MA until we see how that scene ends tonight, but I didn't like the way it sounded.

I've been noticing lately that Frida, the "woman of the people," sounds more and more like Rush Limbaugh when she's talking to JT. I don't doubt that she's feeling left out, but she might have more social success if she would just shut her mouth.

Lupe: "I don't even dream about sand castles any more" - what a great line. What does that say about her feelings toward Nepo? We already knew she wasn't that into him, but this sounds downright bleak.

Was Leo in earnest when he said he would write a symphony about living with the Menchacas? It's looking more and more as though he and JT will become the next Rodgers & Hammerstein... Jagger & Richards... Lennon & McCartney... maybe Beavis & Butthead.

BTW, I realize the moment has passed, but I finally put up my notes for episode 18: http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2014/01/que-pobres-wednesday-12914-18-culprit.html so at least now it's there for anyone who's catching up.

Decie:

I haven't seen them use that fur coat as a blankie. I have seen them use a vest before. It's not very long and Leo is the one that always uses it. MA is always stuck with plastic ;)

Julie, Thanks for the recap.

" I would have called her "Soupy" " oh my...LOL!

Also, BTW....Thanks Jarocha for the info about Rudos vs. Tecnico last week. . I was in the dark about the chanting. Glad you cleared up my confusion.

Barbara

Yes, I've seen only the vest used as blankie.

Someone also pointed out (much earlier) that AS had the movers pack up the rugs at the old house. A rug might not make a great blanket (yuck), but it might not be too bad to sleep on compared to bare floor or newspapers or whatever the current setup is for MA and Leo.

Since MA is supposed to be the smart one, sometimes I wonder if he's enduring more hardship than necessary because he feels guilty about something. Like he's being passive-aggressive with himself as punishment for letting all this happen.

Julie, thanks for posting those notes on the past episode.

I thought the sand castles line was quite poignant. It's sad that Lupita is the hardest working and most self-sufficient of the whole bunch, yet she's the one with the fewest and most modest dreams. I just wanted to smack the snot out of MA when he was telling her that the amount she worked so hard to save up and pay back meant so little to him and his snooty family, when it was clearly such a lot and a big sacrifice for her. Does he have not a single sensitive cell in his hifalutin' body?

I think maybe the RP's haven't unpacked cause they fully expected to be out of there by now. They are probably thinking, why unpack, when we'll just have to repack. Plus they don't quite trust the Mencheca and maybe they didn't want them to see all the high falutin' stuff they've got.

Oh, and speaking of those watches MA was pawning. I watched "Antiques Roadshow" the other night and a lady had a box of watches left to her by her Papa and she wanted an estimate. He bought them in the fifties and put them up. Come to find out they were mostly Phillip Patek and Rolex and the box was worth $50,000.00 Imagine that!

Does MA really expect them to pay up the full amount in one fell swoop right away? The deal was always that they will continue to make modest payments, right? If MA has an iota of the business knowledge he claims, he must realize that it will take quite awhile for them to pay back the whole 300,000 pesos. Yet he talks as if he's expecting a check for the whole sum this week.

Julia:

Yes, I think he actually expects that whole payment in one fell swoop, even though he knows that isn't going to happen and that the Menchaca can only afford the monthly payments. He knows this cause Lupe told him as did Don Chuy. He has no concept of how hard the working man has to work to pay back that debt.

MA should be concentrating on finding ways to uncover Ale's fraud. It seems to be stuck in the slow lane. And for goodness sakes he needs to change that suit already! He has a bit of money now, go find some jeans and a shirt and maybe a ball cap so he mixes in with his environment.

You know I think when I do my recaps and I going to note how many days MA has been wearing that suit. This would be day number 25! I want to see how long it takes for him to change.

I wonder how much longer MA can go on with his smelly suit and his ignorant attitude about money. How much longer, and what will it take to snap him out of it?

As for all the other mysteries, like what's in Ahole's safe (probably a smaller safe!) and where are Mini&Mom going to find a baby that can pass as Alejo's varón, I don't mind waiting to find out. But I'm eager for MA to see the light soon, because I'm having a hard time liking him lately.

...you know, of all the TN characters I've encountered over the years, MA might be the first one who could actually benefit from a bout of amnesia.

Haha! Yes! MA needs a good whack on the head and then he can wake up in a hospital where the nurses have bathed him and put him in a clean hospital gown, with no memory of all these shenanigans.

I want Lupita to snap at him, "Look, if you think it's so easy for someone to come up with that much money through everyday work, why don't you demonstrate for us how it's done?"

Although I think Alejandro on LQLVMR is the one who REALLY, REALLY needs a bout of amnesia.

Away from home and the computer most of the weekend, so couldn't comment earlier.

I really want Frida to lighten up just enough to sing along with the "Snob girl" or whatever name the song is. She could add to the performance and make new friends.

I love granny Mati. She's a great blend of sweetness and common sense (and has a lovely complexion). Even with some mental lapses, she's an anchor for MA and the family.
