Que pobres tan ricos #39, MA perforns 'a day in the life of Trofeo', A-hole keeps catching Mini in suspicious behavior.

Plastic wrapped MA gets up with difficulty to answer the phone call. But as MA speaks, A-hole catches Mini and asks her bluntly who she is talking to.

MA tells Frida that the number that called is ‘private’ and that gives him a bad vibe (mala espina).

Isela tells a paranoic A-hole some lame excuse but he isn’t buying what she is selling. ‘cosas de mujercitas’ (conversation about young lady (virgin) things LOL!)… Mini continues the list of lame excuses. A-hole ends up giving them the benefit of the doubt and tells Isela he wants dinner. As A-hole leaves, Mini can’t wait to give Isela the news that MA is in Mexico. She will go to AS’s hotel tomorrow to find out where MA is. Isela says too little too late, your husband will find out and beware… Mini can’t want to cat-play around with MA. MA calls Saul and tells him about the call, could it be Vilma/A-hole? Saul says if they were suspecting he was at La Nopalera they would have come back right away. MA tells Saul he got a job. Saul almost falls over in surprise. MA says he is overqualified for the job, surely can do it blindfolded… (Frida protests, let her sleep)…

At dinner (or wine glasses), Mini comments about Adolfo turning out to be an accomplice of MA. A-hole says divine justice exists, but yes, it is unbelievable that so much betrayal exists. Mini continues to sweeten his ear… Are you sure sure sure that your cousin MA committed the felony? A-hole protests that his word should suffice for her. Mini follows his lead, MA should be behind bars. Isela follows suit. Then shouts to the maid to bring dessert (Tapioca, yikes!)

At hotel room, Maca is all over Leo on the bed. Leo says she is so wasted, she could suffer the vengeance of Monctezuma and…. (she has fallen fast asleep right on top of him). He moves off her slowly. Seems it affects his breathing how much alcohol she is breathing out.

Back to the plastic covered bro-sis pair. Almost a carnival dance these two are making everytime they need to move (the alarm clock has buzzed, morning!) She protests its too early to get up. He leaves her protesting alone. Comes down. Lupe is having coffee. He has got dressed with shirt and tie… she offers him coffee. He accepts. Then she apologizes for the issue with Emiliano. She says he is right, she is afraid of him resenting that she never told A-hole about him. MA says sooner or later Emi will understand her reasons. MA says he has learned that everyone in the Menchaca family respect each other. MA tells Lupe that he suspects A-hole is the one behind the fraud. Nepo comes in. He sweet-talks her. MA says good morning, I am ready when you are. Nepo says ok but have to try Lupe’s coffee first. Lupe doesn’t have any more, she offers him hers. Nepo hurries MA to finish his coffee so they can go. MA shows a semi-false up-beat attitude toward the day’s work. They leave, Lupe smiles at his gimmicks.

Instantly Nepo and MA are at the fruit stand. MA thinks what Nepo wants him to do is to negotiate the buying the merchandise. Nepo wants MA to help out Trofeo (his assistant). He wanted another guy to carry the merchandise. MA says that is not what we talked about. We talked about negotiating, business deals… Nepo says I never said the job was about that. Nepo is still talking when Trofeo throws a whole sack of fruit at MA’s chest. MA doesn’t even know what to do with it. ‘what do I do with this?’

At fonda dining room, Chuy is depressed, Emi tries to cheer him up. Lupe takes Emi away to school. Chuy will go around the neighborhood to look for a job. Lupe prefers to have him around at the fonda. Emi says how about buy a lottery ticket to become a millionaire? Why not try? Emi would take him to the beach on a plane if he won the lottery. Chuy leaves depressed, Lupe worried.

At Nepo’s site, MA tries to lift a sack of onions and hurts his back, since he denied Trofeo’s help. We hear a song with JC singing ‘I am ashamed of poverty’…

Back at Fonda, Lupe tells Emi that all he dreams about he can earn if he studies hard to get there. Lupe says one of these days she will tell him the story of his dad. Emi not in such a hurry now that MA helped him out with his friends. Emi wishes MA were his dad for real.

At attick, JT wakes Frida up with his boombox music. He claims he has always rehearsed at the attic. She demands he go downstairs. She has to come out and JT has some of his friends with him, so she is shocked and covers herself with the fur vest. She is not amused at JT’s surprise of not being alone.

At corporate offices, Vilma is bringing A-hole the latest reports. His cell phone rings. Its Adolfo Giron. Vilma is paranoic, asks him not to answer. A-hole says leave it to me and one of my best acting moments. Adolfo is cursing A-hole on phone. A-hole plays dumb, what are you talking about? Adolfo says he will spill the beans, if you think I don’t have evidence against you, you got one coming. I taped one of our conversations where we talked about your cousin MA. A-hole offended, can’t believe you just stabbed me on the back. Adolfo demands $10,ooo and remember the business we have with Bambi. A-hole asks him to tell him where he is. Adolfo will call him back later. Hangs up. A-hole is angry at the police for not catching Adolfo.

Nepo is still giving MA instructions… wants MA to carry two sacks at same time. Gwendy arrives, is surprised Nepo has MA working as carrier doing hard labor. Gwendy wants to take MA away for a break. Nepo won’t allow it. MA says I better do my work and then we can meet later. Nepo makes MA carry two sacks of onions at once… MA limps twisting himself around dragging his feet. Gwendy nags at Nepo for overworking MA. Nepo says MA won’t last even two days. Gwendy worried Nepo will break MA’s back. Then she starts biting his lip thinking of MA’s body.

Meanwhile, Leo is serving as tour guide for Maca around Mex city. AS is coming along too. (we hear jarabe tapatio song playing in background, then a cumbia song) they are taking selfies all over the place.

Back at corporate offices, Vilma brought A-hole a tea for his nerves. He says he is better. She has to tell him that someone called the company about some bills that AS has charged the company for. A-hole surprised that tia AS has come back from Italy.

At fonda, JT is telling his friends that they should stop being a small band to become one of those bandas with about 25 members. The friends say they have to replace their instruments, they are old and messed up. In comes Frida and works as waiter for them, taking their beer bottles away. The boys start drooling for her, JT demands they respect his ‘cousin’.

Maca, Leo and AS continue traveling, shopping and spending. Everytime MA walks away, Leo and AS argue. If she goes into a store, they stare at each other in worry. At restaurant, Leo is really becoming paranoic about all the spending and starts drinking wine.

Back at Nepo’s frutera, MA is carrying cases of bananas, Lupe comes by, she tells him surely he is not made for the hard labor. MA asks her if she means he is not physically prepared for this work, she is right. But he will not give Nepo the satisfaction of seeing him bending over like an old rag. Lupe says the pride is spurting out. MA comes up with a saying ‘when the sorrow takes me down, pride lifts me up’.

There is a commercial explaining some kind of contest coming up starting next week on QPTR.. have to answer some questions that will come up on the screen to have a chance to win a trip for 2 to Brasil.

Nepo tired of Gwendy defending the ‘primo ese’. Gwendy asks what type of woman is attractive to men like him and MA. She wants to look good when she goes out with ‘el Mike’. Nepo says don’t hand yourself over to him too easy. Let him court you. Gwendy insists. He can’t believe MA would get a ‘mujeron’ (WOMAN) like her. Then he gets babbling with words. (gwendy surprised about something related to Nepo, I will add this in the morning when I rewatch)

MA is still talking to Lupe, she almost forgot what she came for… he thought she brought lunch for Nepo. Trofeo calls MA back to work. Trofeo calls MA ‘flojo’ (lazy). MA continues carrying the cases of bananas, with Trofeo pushing him from behind.

Mati and Frida talk at the Fonda. Frida worried Mati is usually alone. Mati says nonsense. She entertains the Menchacas and they entertain her. Perla comes by and offers she can keep an eye on Mati. Frida walks away to talk to Perla. Frida thanks Perla. Now that they are alone, Perla tells Frida it will cost her some money. (for Perla to watch Mati?) Frida surprised (not in a good way)

MA is calling Saul from work. Tells Saul he is really worried. Now completely sure that now, besides his family, someone knows he is in Mexico.

Gwendy insists that Nepo is too shy on his attempts with Lupe. Nepo dreams with Lupita for long term. Gwendy says Lupe is no young girl. She is surely waiting for Nepo to make the first move. Gwendy says if Nepo waits too long, it will be too late. Nepo again assures Gwendy he will put his plan at work.

Frida argues with Perla about watchin Mati. Lupe nags at Perla. She does not think its fair for Perla to charge Frida for watching Mati. Lupe just walks away. Perla tells Frida it will be 100 pesos per hour. Frida calls Perla a white glove delincuent. They go back to Mati, Frida tells Mati Perla will keep her company and provide anything she needs.

MA tells Saul the real estate guy’s secretary has not called. Then tells Saul that whoever called asked for him by full name. Also remember Vilma came to the Menchaacas. MA does not want to leave the M house until he finds out exactly what the property is worth. Saul will investigate if Vilma suspects anything. MA will ask Frida if she has given anyone else her cell phone.

Mini and Isela are back at AS’s hotel. Isela not happy that Mini can’t drop the subject. Mini nags back at her. A-hole has followed them there. Isela has to turn Mini around for her to notice A-hole. He asks them what they are doing there.

Previews: Nepo prepares for a ‘hot’ night with Lupita, but Lupita’s sighs are for someone else.

A-hole warns Mini about something.

Thanks for this most marvelous and detailed recap.

I laughed so much at Leo and Maca when the came back from all the partaying. He also mentioned Montezuma's revenge, lol.

I'm glad that MA is sticking with the job, but I think he will end up hurting himself. He hasn't really been in shape since all of this started, if he was at all. He is giving it the old college try though. Nepo's jealousy is driving his revenge for all the onions MA is carrying. Trefeo seems to take some pity on MA and brought him that nice baggie of juice with the straw. That is so unique. I've only ever seen that on "Hasta Que El Dinero No Separe" when Rafa was eating his lunches.

Frida's hair was a hot mess wasn't it? I wonder where she was going? I thought she stopped going to the Prepa.

I also wish, along with a lot of you, that Mati could get some clothes. She has been in that same outfit for weeks now. I wish I had included how many days she's been in that same ensemble to put it in my recaps. I think maybe 28 days or so.

So glad Adolfo recorded that convo with Ahole. Now that's evidence of what Ahole has done. Good! Ahole really didn't plan for this very well.

Mini better watch her step. I think Ahole is going to keep his eye on her. If he finds out that MA is in Mexico he won't stop looking for him until he puts him in a jail cell.

I still don't like the fact that MA is still pursuing the rest of that paperwork for the house. I don't want him to be successful in taking anything from the Menchaca. They have done so much for the RPs.

Thanks again Marta for this most marvelous recap : )

Marta, thanks for your great recap!

Leonardo having to carry back a very drunk Macarena was something else. She could be the perfect daughter in law for AS! Then her wanting to play Malinche and Cortez was a hoot with her falling asleep. I also loved her whirlwind tour of Mexico City.

MA working at the market was the best. I liked his attitude that lifting the boxes of produce was like lifting weights at the gym. The juice baggie was a great Idea I had never seen. You never know what you are going to learn from these telenovelas

On one hand I wasn't so happy that Frida wants to charge for being with doña Mati but then Frida doesn't know what Lupe knows: that doña Mati is part of the family.

Interesting that AS's boutique and hotel costs have indeed started to be billed to the Editorial Ruiz-Palacios and that Alejo is aware that she is "back from Italy." It looks like he has lost no time in paying his aunt a visit. I can't wait to find out what excuse Minerva and Isela give Alejo for being at The Three Seasons.

Another very enjoyable episode.

Jarifa

Marta thanks so much for this detailed recap.

Though I'm glad MA is finally working, doing heavy labor like that without the proper technique will mess up his back and other muscles as well. He needs to think about that since he doesn't have money and can't go to the doctor.

ITA w/Mads and they need to give Mati clothes now.

Jarifa, yes! I was laughing at how Leo had definitely found a younger version of his mom in Maca.

Based on MA's and Lupe's discussion about Emiliano, he may get very mad at his mom for withholding the info on his dad. And when Ajelo realizes Mini can't have kids, I wonder if he'll try to get Lupe to marry him to fulfill the clause in a round-about way.

Karen

Ahole can try to get Lupe to marry him to fill the terms of the contract but it specifically said a legitimate son and unless Ahole fiddled with records Emiliano doesn't qualify.

I'm thinking MA is going to need a long soak in a hot bath after a day of heavy physical labor.

I too wonder where Frieda was headed. She didn't seem to say she wasn't going to go back to school. Maybe she too is going out to try and find a job if for no other reason to buy a blanket and an air mattress for herself.

Let's see how fast Min and Isleda can come up with a reason for being at the hotel. If they have any smarts they can simply say that Iselda had been there the previous night visiting with AS and play dumb about MA. Better still just say that they had come for lunch.

Thanks Marta for this rollicking recap.

This show is such a hoot. I wish we could know what Gwendy said during those bleeped out parts (not just words but whole phrases).

I didn't get around to watching the last few minutes of Thursday's episode, but I noticed that even though Macarena ordered a bottle of the best Tequila, the first bottle the waiter brought was plastic... the second was pretty elegant looking.

Also, when Leo was explaining to Mac about the delay in renovations to their house he mentioned San Lunes (Monday)... something my profa Adriana explained to me early in our lessons... not exactly PC.

And then there was Leo's red shoes. How cool were they?

This show is a late night dessert before going to bed.

Carlos

The censor was sure having a field day! I want to know what Guendy was saying that merited such long bleeps! She was embarrassing Nepo, for sure. It was funny how awkward he was about the subject.

Loved Leo and Mac. His red shoes were very cool and I also liked how he hauled her home. Was he carrying her shoe in his mouth?

Side note: I Shazamed the song that was playing while AS, Leo, and Mac were gadding about town, and Shazam now recognizes not only the song, but also the show and gives a whole list of other music that has been used in the show. Also it seems to think I want to know all the actors' birthdays, for some reason.

Thanks for accentuating the fun, Marta! This show is a late-night dessert, and your recap was dessert for breakfast.

BTW I just had to Wikipedia San Lunes. I thought the idea was funny. Is it offensive? Is it denigrating to the lower working class in particular?

Julia, I think that it's funny too but I've been told that San Lunes as well as carpe mañana are both offensive to to some Latinos. I heard both for the first time from my Spanish tutor Adriana who is originally from Jalisco (we often discussed Mexican culture as well as many other things)... she thinks both are funny but cautioned me that there are some who might take offense. I mentioned carpe mañana here a few years ago and I think that it was Susanlynn who said that she repeated it on one of her other blogs and was told that it's very offensive.

Carlos

Marta- Excellent retelling of the episode. Thank you.

I love the scenes with AS, Leo and Maca. The whole bed scene was hilarious.

The two long Gwendy bleeps made me laugh too. I almost wondered if the bleeps were in the original and put in for effect to make the audience wonder what she could possibly be saying that's so bad. The obvious gist of the first long bleep was her talking about how long it's been since she's done the deed. And the second long one was her giving advice to Nepo on getting Lupe in the sack. The reaction on Nepo's blushing face to both was hilarious. Those two make a good comedic team (and hopefully, a couple by the end of this tn).

I'm very disappointed in Perla Ivett for charging to keep Mati company. I wish Lupe had put her foot down more firmly about that. I hope Don Chuy finds out.

Some years ago our whole family went to Aguascalientes to visit our grandparents (both maternal and paternal). We stopped at a little store for a soft drink and the expressions on most of our faces as the clerk opened the bottle, poured the drink into a baggie, stuck a straw in it and handed it to us were priceless. After that, everywhere we had a bottled drink, this is what happened. We asked the clerk and she said that they have to pay extra for the deposit if they order drinks from the supplier without turning in the bottles and most customers don't bother to return the bottles. Makes sense in a weird way, I guess.

Vivi

I'm huge Arturo Peniche fan going back to his hearthtrob galan days. He is a talented actor but who knew he could do comedy as well. That is a rare skill for a dramatic actor and he is pulling off Nepo without making him a complete ass. I too think he and his amiga Guendy are destined to be together. They are so comfortable with each other I guess it hasn't occurred to either of them that there might be something else there.

I watched Thursday's episode today too, and got a kick out of Leo's friend at the club asking if Maca is his lobuki. Haven't heard that word since Niki Briz in Amores Verdaderos.

I'll decide how smart I think Minerva is after I've heard the excuse she gives Ahole for being at the hotel. It should be so easy. She should just say she's there for lunch/coffee/whatever is suitable for the time of day, or if she really wants to distract him, she could claim she was going to make arrangements for a special surprise romantic getaway for the two of them. Or going to the spa. That place must have a spa.

Marta, thank you for the very detailed recap. I love it! I laughed at:

“MA tells Saul he got a job. Saul almost falls over in surprise.” Too funny.

This episode had lots of good stuff to learn if you had the time. I never saw Amores Verdaderos so I needed to look up “lobuki”. Here it is for others that may not know:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=lobuki

which then led me to the associated “mirrey”,

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mirrey

The information about the shirt was excellent! Now I understand Leo a little better.

Barbara

Marta, once again you've given us a detailed and entertaining fix for our Pobres addiction.

Lots of great and informative comments as well.

Gracias, Marta!

I didn't understand why Ahole pretended to be surprised about Adolfo being wanted by the police. I know he has to pretend he didn't make this happen, but how can he pretend not to know? Didn't the board agree to report Adolfo? Why wouldn't Ahole know about it?

I laughed at Macarena going around the DF with Leo and AS... Mac should have been way too hung over to go out on a sunny day!

Mads - you saw soda in a bag on UFCS, too (when they had the festival at the school). I think that's the first time I ever saw it. I'm sure it would end in disaster if I tried it. There's probably no way to put the bag down without making a mess; and if you drop it, yow!!!

I thought Frida said she was going back to the prepa - I figured she was still trying to get a scholarship.

If AS's charges are getting referred to the RP company, that means her checks have started bouncing. Since she knew she was writing bad checks, she's breaking the law. Uh, that is, she was already a criminal for stealing 300,000 pesos, but that's mostly a secret. Passing bad checks with your own name on them? That's literally buying trouble!

Carlos: "This show is a late night dessert before going to bed." - So true! Well said!

Nepo and Lupita on a hot date tonight? I don't know if I'm ready for this!

Nepo and Guendy are so meant to be. With Diego Armando, they are so team parents in the way they treat him...Nepo is pushy, Guendy pleads for a little more indulgence. They have such a comfortable dynamic. Why have they never thought about it?

Nepo and Gwendy seem a little too comfortable... like there's no romantic tension between them. Maybe she was dating someone else when they first met, and Nepo only ever had eyes for Lupe, so... so the question is, how is this going to happen?

Maybe I should be lobbying for Nepo to get amnesia.

Do we know what happened to Diego's mother? How long has she been gone?

Great recap Marta!

Isn't Macarena fun? I bet the actress is having a blast with the role, doing that Spaniard accent after playing Solita.

I love the actor who plays Leo, he is so great. A friend of mine saw him on theater playing the lead on a romantic musical comedy and said he was great there.

Carlos, I didn't know San Lunes was offensive to some latinos. Maybe that sort of thing is why Univision has such strong censorship, since they have to be conscious not to offend so many different cultures at the same time.

Julie: The plastic in the bag is not so hard to handle. That was usually how we'd get our drinks when I was a kid back in elementary school and they were easier to handle than cups for some of the smaller children. If the bag had a strong knot then it meant that you were a little kid because older kids *obviously* didn't need a knot to avoid spilling their drinks.

Jarocha

Julia: I think the original Plantain Queen is dead, but I don't remember when/how that was discussed. I think it was a conversation between Nepo and Gwendy but maybe it was Nepo and Diego??

Jarocha: I will take your word for it that they're not hard to handle, but I would probably have to ask for a triple-knot. I can barely handle a juice pouch without something squirting out through the straw. (My "drinking problem")

I would assume the juice pouch is a bit softer than a leather booze bag would be, but same type of handling required.
sorry i did not get to add a couple details I promised, still fighting this 'bronchigis/sinus inf/ ear infection'. almost done but still have cough and I am out of voice (very ronca). Getting there, though. have couple more days of antib to go.

Those infections can take a LONG time to shake, Marta - just rest as much as you can. :(

It's very difficult to catch every detail even when you're not sick (I know I missed a lot of stuff last week), but this TN has been pretty good about repeating things that are important so that everyone is ready when the payoff comes.

(This TN is also pretty good about repeating things that will never be important, but that's another story!)

So I try not to worry about it, even though sometimes I worry that entire storylines are going over my head. ;-)

Julie

Never worry about missing something. For some reason somebody else will always catch something and comment so the whole story never has holes in it other than the one the writers leave. And you are so right about things being repeated within the broadcast and often stuff you feel like screaming enough already I get it. LOL
