REINA Lunes GRAND FINALE

Part I

We last left Teresa wanting a car in the a.m. and she gets it, after much haggling. The Colonel can't believe there is this much security for one chick and against Don Epifanio. Willy gives him a strange look. She leaves with Pote and a driver and escort to the shrine of St. Malverde, where she met Epifanio before fleeing to Spain. It's been twelve years since that meeting and he reminds her of that. He wants to know why she is ratting him out, cause he killed everyone she loved, Brenda, her hubby the kids, but especially El Guero who she loved with all her soul. He was DEA he tells her. Doesn't matter she says. He will give her double the money the government will give her, no go, she's testifying. Well then prepare to die he says. He goes.

Batman has left his wife and boys at home and is staking out Teresa's digs in Cualican. Willy finally sees him pacing and goes over and calls him by name, Batman. Batman has come to deliver a message. Tell Teresa, he says, that Epifanio has a hit out on her. Message delivered, he goes.

Ratas is at Batman's house with a henchie with a rifle. He breaks into Batman's house and Marta, Batman's wife, is alone with the boys. She sees him breaking in and hustles the boys and herself in the bathroom. She leaves the door cracked and calls Batman to let him know what is going on. He doesn't answer. Ratas sees the crack in the door and deduces that she and the boys are in there. He makes like he's going, she comes out with the boys and he faces her and she hides the boys' eyes. Next thing we see, he has raped and killed her and the boys are dead. He goes. Batman comes home and finds his wife dead on the bed, and a blood stained teddy bear. He gets on the bed with his wife and cries.

Ratas goes back to Epifanio's and he wants a chat with him. Never mind killing Batman he tells Ratas, kill Teresa ASAP.

At Teresa's it is night and Pote has found all the security is gone around the house. They are completely alone, no protection what so ever! Teresa deduces that Epifanio must still have some power somewhere and thinks he pulled the security. They must defend themselves. The lights go out.

REINA Lunes GRAND FINALE

Part II

Meanwhile at Epifanio's he is informed the press are at the door. He goes out there and tells them no questions, he can't answer any. The press takes lots of pics of him shying away from the camera.

Back at Teresa's, Ratas has brought a crap load of henchies with him and opens fire. Teresa and Pote return the fire and inch their way through the house. There is a guy in the balconey with a machine gun and one guy dead on the floor with a grenade. Pote lobs the grenade at the guy on the balconey and he is dead. Pote and Teresa are behind a sofa and take the machine gun and go outside to make a run for it, with Ratas chasing them. Pote fires at the chasing men, but doesn't hit Ratas, everyone else is now dead. Pote tells Teresa to Corre, Corre! and he turns and fires, but misses Ratas who now kills Pote, calling him a traitor. Teresa stops running and calls to Pote, who is dead. Ratas has her in his gun sights and says now she will die. She thought she'd kill his Papa? No way he says. He aims, fires and nothing happens, he's out of bullets. Teresa raises her arm and shoots her gun at Ratas until it is empty. Ratas is dead, and here comes Willy finally with reinforcements. He takes the gun from Teresa. She leans her head on his shoulder and cries for Pote.

Later, Teresa goes to court and testifies against Epifanio. When she is done she is escorted out of court by Willy and the Ambassador. Epifanio is let out of court with a bullet proof vest and in cuffs. Batman is across the street laughing and Epifanio gives him the stink eye.

Many months later, Teresa is in a new home, very visibly pregnant. There is a maid with her I think. We see the crib for the bebe, the house is very light and airy and by the sea. As music plays she walks through the house, rubbing her belly, goes out to the garden and then the dock right outside the back of her house. FIN

REINA Lunes Grand Finale

I left a small part out of that conversation that Teresa and Epifanio had at the shrine. He was trying to convince her not to talk, so he could be elected President and help the poor and destitute all around Mexico. She knew he was lying, when had he ever helped the poor? When he offered to pay her double the amount the government was paying her, she said money doesn't solve everything. He just didn't get it, that all she had loved, she lost due to him.

I will miss this one I must say. It was very different from what I usually watch. I know Teresa wasn't blameless, but I liked her moxey. I liked Oleg, Pote, El Guero, Santiago, Fatima, Mohammed, Sheila, Paty, Conejo and the gang from Transer Naga. I liked Willy too. I didn't like some of his underhanded ways, but understood why he did what he did. Flores however, I still can't stand. With him it was personal and don't get me started on his obsession with Teresa. Willy looked at the big picture, whereas Flores did not.

I wish they had said where Teresa ended up living. Her hair looked nice short, and she finally looked happy. I imagine looking at the terrain, it's in Italy. It couldn't be Spain or Mexico. It didn't look like anywhere in the States.

REINA General

Deb:

Thanks so much for putting up the links for us for all the old recaps. They are much appreciated and I liked going back to see what everyone thought of this one back then. Thank you again.

Reina

Tks Madelaine & to all the recappers, this was a good one to recap.

It ended similar to the book, of course there was no Ratas in the bk. Teresa fired & ran until she got outside the wall with reporters, Feds, where she was safe. QEPD Pote.

I'll have to look again but I don't think anything was mentioned of Batman's family.

Ratas was scum of the earth. Were those Marta's? panties he was putting in his pocket. I did think it odd that Batman didn't run looking for his kids.

Looks like Teresa is on the Mediterranean somewhere, beautiful. There would be no place to hide in Mexico.

Madelaine, thanks very much for your excellent recap of the final episode. I haven't been watching Reina this time, since I saw it when it was first shown and saw much of it again later. But I couldn't not watch the finale. This remains far and away the best telenovela I have ever seen.

I'm not sure what to do about En Otra Piel. Right now, I'm watching Santa Diabla draw to its insane conclusion, and I'm also watching La Impostura. The latter has some actors whom I like, but I'm not wild about the novela. I wish I were more attracted to En Otra Piel--I'd drop La Impostura and would soon be back to watching just one telenovela, which is what I'd like. Perhaps I'll see what people have to say about it--doing three-hour telenovela marathons for the next week is more than I can handle.

En otra piel doesn't sound appealing at all, someone is murdered? & returns in another body???? I'll probably give it a try though, I like some of the actors.

Reina
By some unknown magic, my RSS feed to Reina returned. I'm thinking it was a Yahoo problem. Black magic made it disappear. The ? is, why did I continue to get SD, MPV & Impostora?

Really liked this TN. I didn't comment during it because I was always playing major catch-up with it (also watching Robo on Uni). Actually, this is one of my favs. It's different from the other TNs I've seen. I liked the short length, too--kept things moving.

I'm looking forward to the new one. I really liked Maria Elisa in PEAM and I think the story looks fascinating.

AVENIDA BRASIL, Terça-feira

Monalisa's cousin is a cardiologist. I hate such obvious coincidences. I thought the wedding was going to end when she saw Tifón but no such luck. Especially after admitting to Olenka that she doesn't feel true passion for Silas.

A fondue pot? Really Ivana?

I loved how Debora held her ground when Carmina went to see her at the theater.

Still waiting to find out why Carmina did what she did...

Avenida Brasil

not just a fondue pot but a re-gifted fondue pot. That's about as low as you can get in gift giving!

Avenida Brasil

Poor Tifon! It was really heartbreaking watching his breakdown and him asking Jorgito for forgiveness. Their relationship is so special. But I predict Carmina is going to feed Tifon a load of bs and he will eventually forgive her and once again she will get her way. But I really hope not.

I like Ma Lucinda as much as I can't stand her. She's so damn deceptive. Can't wait to finally learn her backstory. I can't imagine anything more important than protecting your children.

AVENIDA BRASIL Terca-feira

I have a recap for this capitulo and will put it up later in the morning. What an epi, oi, oi, oi.

En Otra Piel

wow, pretty good, Maria Elisa Camargo really brings a lot of life to the screen!

Avenida Brasil

I'm not watching this but it's on sometimes during the day and I just want to thank Madelaine and others for their recaps and comments which have allowed me to follow along, this really is a first rate novela, the actress that plays Carmina (Adriana Esteves) is so real and really keeps the pot bubbling.

Reina

glad you guys used the links,

this show starts in a panic, and the first time around I also had trouble getting oriented, but I wanted to say the second time around, the beginning was even more exciting.

the middle, when I knew where Teo was going, kind of blah.

the end, where Teresa stops a life that was pushed on her, and starts creating her own, so much more rewarding.

and Pote, I will always love him.

AVENIDA BRASIL, Terça-feira

Jean: Regifted? LOL! Typical of those Divino people, eh? The dubbed voices are distracting to me so I usually watch with the Spanish captions. Yesterday I didn't put them on until later in the show so I totally missed that it was regifted. Ivana is kind of tacky at times but she and Tifón are unpretentious and I would rather hang out with these two nouveaux riches than with stuck-up Veronica in la Zona del Sur.

I'll be checking out En Otra Piel later tonight

AVENIDA BRASIL Terca-feira

Part I

When we last left Tifon, he was at Mama Lucinda's and he wants to know if Carmina is Jorgito's bio Mama. Yes, she is. Tifon can't believe it. Later Tifon walks to his car and remembers Carmina mentioning a boy at Tiradero, and then meeting Jorgito for the first time. He is very upset.

Carmina continues to call either Jorgito or Tifon, she is rude to everyone including Ivana and Nina.

On the way to get Carmina some pills, Nina meets Jorgito on the beach. This was the place Mama Lucinda took the kids from Tiradero by bus when they were kids. He wants to know if now Nina has gotten her venganza. Nina just wants justice. What are her plans now and will she be satisfied if Tifon leaves Carmina? Jorgito mentions more of wanting to know about Nina's past, she's not saying and going back to work.

Alexia can't catch a break. Ruy and his Mama have come for a visit. Mama says that Ruy has been cuckholded by Alexia in front of all of Rio. Alexia tries to hug Ruy, but he is a Mama's boy and pushes her off. He wants nothing to do with her, especially after the shrimp incident. Mama gives Alexia the bill for the entire wedding. It is 200 mil, and she has no idea how she is going to pay it. Paloma looks guilty.

Carmina is having a hissy fit and Nina has come back with the pills. Nina tells Carmina to calm down, but Carmina feels like there is a storm in her head, this whole situation is like a tsunami to her and nothing good will ever come of this.

Mona Lisa is at her salon and is happy as they all congrat her on her wedding.

Tifon and Leleco have a talk. He tells Leleco what happened at Tiradero. How Carmina lied to him all these years about Jorgito. Leleco gives Tifon some wise advice. He tells him to either accept and forgive Carmina or leave her. Tifon will go to see Jorgito cause he is the one that is really suffering.

AVENIDA BRASIL Terca-feira

Part I (con)

Carmina goes to Debora's work and Debora isn't happy to see her. She asks Carmina how she could leave poor Jorgito like that at Tiradero, to was cruel. Debora calls Carmina a liar and doesn't want to talk to her. Carmina threatens Debora and tells her next time she needs help, she won't help her. Carmina claims she is a victim! Carmina goes crying all the way.

Alexia is getting drunk, when Carlitos comes. He must have gotten some new clothes. Alexia thinks karma has gotten her, for what happened with him. He wants to renew their love and Ruy isn't for her. Alexia tells him there is no love, just karma. She smooches her and she loses all reason.

Ivana has gotten a suit for Max, for Mona Lisa's wedding he doesn't want to go. Carmina and Max are alone and she tells Max that Tifon now knows all. Max says well then let's go and run, get out of here.

Jorgito gets a visit from Tifon. Tifon looks destroyed. He wants Jorgito's forgiveness for what happened earlier in the day when he didn't believe Jorgito. Now Tifon knows the truth. He begs Jorgito to forgive him.

AVENIDA BRASIL Terca- feira

Part II

Jorgito asks if Tifon has talked to Carmina, and Tifon says he got advice from Leleco. He went to see Mama Lucinda at Tiradero and learned the truth. Tifon tells Jorgito it is okay to cry, while Tifon is crying. Tifon can't get over the fact that Carmina lied about this all these years. Why? Tifon and Jorgito hug.

Max and Carmina think of a way out of this. Carmina blames Max. If he hadn't given that woman's name to Jorgito thinks would have stayed the way they were. And what if Jorgito now wants to know who his Papa is, Carmina asks. She calls Max an idiot and goes.

Tifon is going to go, but Jorgito tells him if he needs a place to stay he can stay with him. Tifon wants Jorgito to be a part of his life, he loves him. What about Carmina? Tifon doesn't know. He left Mona Lisa at the altar for Carmina all those years ago. Jorgito wants to know how Tifon feels about Mona Lisa know, still in love? No.

Veronica and Neomia finally turn on each other. They say each one of them was better for Carlitos than the other. They are now frenemies.

Alexia and Carlitos have done the deed and now he wants to marry her. She has a huge hangover. He wants to give Paloma his name. He wants Paloma to have two parents. Alexia says that Carlitos can't live with just one woman. He claims he can do it. Alexia wants to be alone, so he tells her to think about it and he goes.

Carmina calls Tifon again and he won't answer. She is pithed. Nina brings her something to drink and she is rude again, but then calms down and says she needs to modify the truth. Nina tells her that she is like a Mama to her. Carmina likes that and strokes Nina's face and hugs her, as she and Nina cry.

Jorgito and Debora are together now and she's a bit jealous when she finds out he met Nina and talked to her. Jorgito assures Debora he loves her. Debora wants to know if now Carmina and Tifon will separate.

Nina goes to see Mama Lucinda and wants to know if she told Tifon the truth. Mama Lucinda is upset but Nina tells her she didn't come to insult her. Mama Lucinda wonders if Nina planned all of this? Nina says she just wanted a new life. They hug and cry.

There is a knock and it's Primo and he wants to talk to Silas about his "heart problem" he is a cardiologist. Silas tells him he's fine. Primo wants to do an exam, cause the wedding brings on strong emotions and what about the honeymoon? Silas talks Primo out of the exam.

AVENIDA BRASIL Terca-feira

Part II (con)

Tifon is at Club Divino having a drink and Diogenes tells him that Mona Lisa is getting married and he hopes she has a family like Tifon does. Diogenes tells Tifon to forget what happened in the past and Tifon feels really bad for having left Mona Lisa at the altar.

Ivana, Max, Muricy, Aduato and Agatha are all ready to go to the wedding. Carmina is still trying to call Tifon and he isn't answering. They all go without her. She tries calling Jorgito too, no answer and she throws the cell phone, Nina laughs behind the door.

At the wedding everyone has gathered and Tifon has come in just as the priest says if anyone has reason why this couple shouldn't be married, speak your piece, and Tifon stares at Mona Lisa. Silas grabs Mona Lisa and tells her he waited so many years for her, he loves her so much, passion, etc. They are man and wife. They kiss before that though!

Max gets on his cell and tells Carmina that Tifon is at Mona Lisa's wedding. Carmina is pithed!

The DJ starts the tunes and everyone is dancing. Tifon dances with Mona Lisa.

Debora goes home and Veronica tells her about Noemia and Alexia. Debora can't believe it. Where is Carlitos now? Veronica doesn't know. Debora comforts her Mama.

Tifon talks to Leleco and says they will talk tomorrow.

Carmina is on the sofa, when Tifon comes home. Tifon really has nothing to say to her, as she is mi amoring him. He knows the whole truth, Mama Lucinda told him. He wants to know why Carmina left Jorgito at Tiradero in the first place, and why did Carmina lie to him. End of capitulos.

Otra Piel

Well, I watched the first episode and was glad when it was over. The combination of violence and belief in the supernatural is a turn-off for me. Violence alone I can take--I LOVED La Reina del Sur, for example. But I'll take a pass on En Otra Piel.

AVENIDA BRASIL General

Sorry the recap was so long. So many interesting things happened.

I had to laugh at Veronica and Noemia now being frenemies. I just knew that would happen sooner or later. I wonder what Alexia will do now? Her whole life is ruined due to them. And Alexia wasn't even married to Carlitos.

Carmina is spiraling out of control. Tifon is so very depressed. I wonder if they will be able to work it out at all? I guess we find out today.

Avenida Brasil will only be one hour the rest of this week. They are showing En Otra Piel for the second hour all this week.

REINA

Madelaine, so glad you decided to do mini-recaps for Reina. Deb, so sweet of you to post links every week. I’ve had a blast watching Reina and now I'm spoiled after seeing a take-charge heroine.

I figured Teresa would survive – and hopefully with her baby intact. It was wonderful seeing a very pregnant Teresa walking in peace.

But I was also hoping that Pote survived too, but that if he was killed that it wouldn’t be by Ratas. So Pote’s death was a big downer and the torture and murder of Batman's wife was so much worse.

I had some beanie moments. Wouldn’t Willy have stayed with Teresa and Pote? Wouldn’t Batman have sent his wife and kids away or at least had security for them? Anyhoo, I’m just glad Teresa got to wipe the grin off Ratas’ face.

My favorite moments in the TN were Teresa’s love and friendship with Santiago, El Güero, Patty, Oleg, and Pote and the hate/business with the father and son Galicians. If they air Reina again, I would definitely watch it a second time. Excellent performance by all, but especially Kate.

En Otra Piel

I like Laura Flores so I'm going to check out the premiere and see if it draws me in.

AVENIDA BRASIL Quarta-feira

It's time for some truth telling for Carmina as Tifon asks her what the truth is and also asks who is Jorgito's Papa? Why did she leave Jorgito at Tiradero. Hang on to your hats for her sob story. She tells Tifon she was raped, didn't know the guy, and got pregnant with Jorgito. She was only 16 at the time. She gave Jorgito up when she was 19. She met a guy who got her into modeling and she couldn't care for Jorgito. Also she tells Tifon she also grew up in Tiradero, she never knew her parents. Mama Lucinda was like a real Mother to her and that's why she left Jorgito with her. She knew Mama Lucinda would take care of him. She was poor, naïve, helpless, didn't know what to do. He seems to take this in stride, but tells her that she will not only apologize to Jorgito but to the whole family for all the lies she told. She really doesn't want to, but she will. He goes upstairs.

Meantime, we have Silas and Mona Lisa on their honeymoon at the beach in a hotel. He carries her over the threshold, the have champagne and get busy. Afterwards she is very satisified and says basically Tifon who? She is now totally in love with Silas.

Debora and Jorgito wonder if Tifon will stay with Carmina.

Veronica thinks that maybe Carlitos is with Noemia, Noemia thinks that Carlitos is with Veronica, and Tomas stops her from calling Carlitos. He says enough already. She goes right over to Veronica's and searches her place for "DuDu" and Veronica thinks this is all a show cause Carlitos is really at Noemia's. They finally realize if he isn't with them, he is probably with Alexia. They go over there, find a very drunk Alexia out by the dumpster, escort her inside and search her place. Well he isn't with Alexia either. After insulting her they go. Alexia thinks about Carlitos' proposal.

Mona Lisa and Silas are on the beach and Silas wants to go water skiing. Mona Lisa tries to talk him out of it, his health. He goes anyways, gets too close to the shore and has an accident. Mona Lisa calls Olenka and tells her about it. We don't see what kind of shape Silas is in.

Now Carmina has to face the family as they come back from Mona Lisa's wedding. The whole family is there but Jorgito. She explains why she left Jorgito at the Tiradero. Agatha is happy that Jorgito is her "true" brother. Carmina did tell Agatha to go to her room before she told about the "rape". Max was sweating blood this whole time. Tifon is going off to bed, he will sleep in his office on the sofa. Carmina wanted him back in their bedroom but he can't do that. Everyone goes off to bed, and Leleco is the last one to leave. He gives Carmina the stink eye. Nina has heard all, from her hiding place behind the door, and laughs.

Next morning, Nina brings Tifon his breakfast and she's glad he's back. He says he missed their conversations. Nina wants to know if he is leaving Carmina, cause if he is, she wants to go with him, even though she "likes" Carmina. He doesn't know yet.

Nina next brings breakfast to Carmina who wants to know how Tifon is. Carmina is going to talk to him to get him to stay. She thanks Nina for her support and being a friend. Nina had told her she understood that Carmina did this not out of ambition and such. Carmina goes.

Meantime Muricy is talking to Tifon. She says what Carmina did, abandoning Jorgito was bad, but she told the truth. Forgive her she says. She can kind of see why this happened. Tifon will think about it.

Carmina comes to talk to Tifon. She can imagine the night he spent with his bad back on that sofa, and she wants him to come back to their bedroom. She was awake all night thinking. She has decided she will beg Jorgito for forgiveness, but she doesn't want to face him alone. She wants Tifon to come with her.

Tifon and Carmina go to Jorgito's and at first he doesn't want to let Carmina in, but she begs his forgiveness in the doorway. Will he let her in?

AVENIDA BRASIL Quarta-feira

I am curious as to how Carmina turns those tears on and off. She missed her calling, she should have been an actress instead of a grifter. And Max and his guilty face. Too bad they don't know too much about him, they would have figured it out. That guilt was plastered all over his face.

I wonder what else Nina will do? I did leave out one scene where she was talking to Bettina and told her what happened about Carmina and how now Jorgito knows that Carmina is his bio Mom. Even Bettina wanted to know if Tifon would leave Carmina!

I also wonder if Alexia will put Carlitos to the test. Since she now knows that Carlitos is with neither Veronica or Noemia, maybe she'll test him and see if he can live with only one woman.

Otra Piel

Love JLP but this one didn't grab me at all. Looks like it is going to be both violent and disjointed. Giving it a pass.

Pablo Escobar / La Promesa

the tv schedule shows "Pablo Escobar" ending this Friday
and "La Promesa" starting on Monday.

a Colombian production,
the cast list shows Christian Tappan (Willy from La Reina del Sur) will be in this one.

a rough Goggle translation,
"This is the story of Ana, Frida and Seleni three beautiful girls lured with the promise of achieving the dream life. Innocent and vulnerable, with the strong conviction that despite the adverse conditions in which they live, can achieve a better future, will be deceived and used by unscrupulous people who peer into a prostitution ring from which it will be impossible to escape."

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_promesa_(serie_de_televisión)

En Otra Piel

I watched the first episode of this one and found it quite gripping. It remains to be seen if it will continue at this pace.

It's a remake of El Cuerpo del Deseo which I saw years ago with Mario Cimarro. That one concerned a wealthy, cultured man who dies and whose soul and entity somehow enters into the body of a strong, young campesino. My memory isn’t terrific about every detail, but he does go to live in the house of this guy’s widow, probably for revenge. If anyone remembers better, chime in.

So last night we meet Adriana Aguilar, a poor but spirited young woman who’s working in a bar in Mexico City and supporting her younger brother to attend medical school. The brother has an apparent gambling problem and gets deeply in debt with the owner of the bar, one Carlos Ricalde. This despicable guy runs a prostitution ring with, it appears, kidnapped young women forced into “the life”. He, in classic telenovela villain fashion lusts after Adriana. She has a handsome young mechanic boyfriend, Diego, (David Chocarro). Last night Diego proposed to her.

After escaping Carlos' clutches and probably not for the first time, she’s leaving the bar and almost gets run over by a big limousine that is carrying a famous concert pianist, Mónica Serrano, to the airport. She’s on her way to catch a plane home to Los Angeles, California. Mónica offers Adriana a ride home out of concern for her almost having been run over. The two quickly become very friendly. Adriana tells Mónica about a necklace (amuleto) that she was given by a shaman. This guy told her it would prevent her soul from being stolen. The catch came loose, and Mónica fastened it back on Adriana’s neck. There’s a lot of “woo-woo” stuff where Mónica gets odd sensations from the necklace. I’m really enjoying Maria Luisa Camargo’s portrayal of Adriana, full of Mexican slang and working class attitude.

Unfortunately, after the limousine drops Adriana off, we see that the necklace came off again and is visible on the carpeting in the vehicle.

Despicable Carlos has the younger brother, Jacinto, beaten very badly. The message is delivered that Adriana is to come to evil Carlos to “settle the debt”. She tries to pay and refuses his attempts to get physical with her. He attempts a violent rape. It appears she’s knocked unconscious in the struggle.

Mónica has recently married a much younger man, and her daughter, Camila, ridiculously, is resentful that her mother has done this despite being widowed for five years. We see Camila and some sort of son of a servant young man, who is home from college to reconnect with Camila. It appears that Mónica’s niece, Elena, is having an affair with Mónica’s new husband, Gerardo (Jorge Luis Pila). There’s a big, welcome-home party for Camila. Mónica announces she's retiring from performing, but is playing for the guests at the party. She collapses at the very same moment Adriana (in Mexico City) is knocked unconscious.

En Otra Piel

Novelera, what a masterful introduction to this novela. Thank you so much!

I'm still on the fence about it (I should be dropping novelas, not adding them), but I've promised myself to give it a week and then decide.

Otra Piel

Thank you, Novelera!
I had completely forgotten about this one because it never caught my attention in the first place.
I saw teh original with M Cimarro, too and wasn't crazy about it, either. I really don't like paranormal stuff, but I'll give it a try to see who is who and who is supposed to hook up down the line (the main reason for tn watching, as I'm sure we can all agree).

Novelera, thank you for this wonderful recap... Telemundo should give you some sort of fee for recaps such as this as, for potential viewers such as myself that may have heretofore been hesitant about tuning in... this review will definitely help me to do just that!

We'll see!

But, thanks again! :-)

Otra Piel

I just watched the first episode and it wasn't all that bad, actually.
And I really enjoy the lead, it's the first time I see her in a tn.
I think I'll stick with this one for a while, see how it goes.

Fun trivia: the actress playing the niece, Elena, had a part in the original, too, playing the daughter of the deceased (in that one, the man). Here it looks like she's quite a beatch, but so far, the spoiled daughter who just came back isn't any better.

Otra Piel

Adriana, ITA about the bratty daughter. Thanks for reminding me that Vanessa Villela played the daughter of the Andrés Garcia/Mario Cimarro character.

I have liked Maria Luisa Camargo in the other two novelas I've seen her in: Flor Salvaje and Porque el Amor Manda (viewed some of this one).

I just get a kick out of how rapidly she talks and manages to throw in all that working class slang. Last night in the limousine she made a remark to the Mónica character about, I think, how did Mónica like "chilangolandia"? A chilango is slang for a resident (could possibly mean a native; I'm not sure), of the City of Mexico.

REINA

I finally get to add my approval of the quality of this show, although I can understand why Mexico might be concerned about the portrayal of a drug dealer. Most of the Mexicans certainly didn't deserve our admiration (although I did feel some sympathy for Batmancito there at the end. Who knew he'd be a devoted family man, relatively? I was a little surprised that he didn't off Don Epi, but I imagine him taking over the business and doing what he can to make every day of Epi's life in prison a living hell. And I'll never be able to hear "Batman" again without thinking "Batmancito". Thanks, show.)

But Teresa, Oleg, and the rest certainly didn't suffer much for their choice to be drug traffickers. And Teresa's assertion that she didn't ask for this life was nuts. She had a choice and she chose drug dealing. I lost some sympathy for her when she killed the Galician via airplane. It seemed an especially cruel and tortuous way to kill someone. But kudos to all the actors for bringing their A-game. I think Kate del Castillo has switched over to movies, but hopefully we'll see the others soon.

Has anyone tried to find the original Christina interview show? I'd like to check it out. And I'd put her in someplace tropical and Asian, Bali or the Phillipines maybe. Those sliding doors seemed like an Eastern influence.

Otra Piel

I really don't care for any more violence against women, but I'm willing to check this show out. Maybe the supernatural stuff will lessen the impact. Plus if I can get to the point of understanding what the heck the lead is saying, then I win. As of now I can hardly read the spanish captions fast enough.

Avenida Brasil:

Thanks so much for all the great recaps, Mads! I have seen a few episodes here and there, but with the snow days last week I had a few back to back days at home, right around the time of the Jorgito bio-mama reveal and I’ve been recording the show each day since.

If I didn’t know Carmina was lying through her teeth, I’d believe her story and would be sympathetic. She’s good! I do wonder if there is some truth mixed up in those lies, like about her childhood. I guess we’ll find out eventually.

Since I haven’t been watching since the very beginning, I have a few questions:
1) Does Nina/Rita know that Tifon was the one who killed her father (accidentally), and if so, why does she not hold a grudge against him?
2) Did Carmina steal money/an inheritance from Nina/Rita when her father died?
3) What is Nina/Rita’s end game? Does she want Carmina to be abandoned, broke, jailed, what?
4) Is Agatha Nina’s dad’s child, or Tifon’s child?

As for the other storylines, no good can come from Sila’s lie. That’s going to blow up in his face soon. And just how good much Carlitos be in bed to have these women still salivating over him, after the way he deceived them?!

En Otra Piel:

Haven't watched yet, but I am recording it this week to watch over the weekend because I like both Laura Flores and Maria Elisa.

Vivi:

I am glad you are liking this one. It is very fast moving and the characters are great. I will answer your questions.

1. Nina has no idea that Tifon ran over Genesio. The only one that knows is Jorgito cause Tifon told him.

2. Yes, Carmina stole a boat load of money from Genesio. He drew it out for something Carmina told him I think, then Genesio found out Carmina was robbing him from Nina/Rita and then hid the money and Rita/Nina knew where it was. After Genesio died Rita/Nina went to retrieve it, got caught by Carmina, who took it from her and had Max drop her off at Tiradero.

3. We really don't know what Rita/Nina's end game with Carmina is. She wants to destroy her that's for sure, after all the hell Carmina put her through, but she seemed to change just a bit when she found out that Carmina is Jorgito's bio Moms. At this point Jorgito hates Carmina as much if not more than Rita/Nina does. We will have to wait and see what Nina does next.

4. I really don't know who Agatha's Papa is. Some on this board have said Max is. It may be so, I really don't know. I thought it might be Tifon, or maybe even Genesio. I know for sure she was sleeping with Genesio and Max at the same point in time. She didn't meet Tifon until after Genesio had died. There was a time jump and Carmina had the bebe, so I'm not sure how much time had passed from her finding out she was preggers. She is passing Agatha off as Tifon's.

Vivi: Carmina convinced Genesio to sell the house that had belonged to his first wife's family and to move to São Paulo "to start a new life."

En Otra Piel - Capitulo 2

A quick rundown of what has happened in the 2nd chapter:

- as Monica faints in LA, Adriana hits her head and is apparently dead, back in Mexico;

ADRIANA
- Carlos, the mafia chief or whatever he is, asks his goons to take the body and hide it deep into the woods; as they are taking the body out to the car, the barkeep sees them
- Adriana's brother, Jacinto, is still trapped in the house when Diego, the boyfriend, arrives; Jacinto tells Diego that Adriana went to confront Carlos and they both run to the bar
- Carlos and his goons deny that Adriana was ever there (they just got back from dumping her body in a ditch);
- the police arrives and they search the place, but they can't find anything
- Diego and Jacinto insists that Carlos did something to Adriana, and when they are about to leave, the barkeep tells them what he saw
- he was afraid to speak up in front of Carlos, but he overheard the goons talking about the place where they were supposed to take her
- Diego and Jacinto search for Adriana all through the night, but all they can find is a shoe
- Adriana is not dead, she comes to her senses just in time for a woman who lives nearby in a hut with her soon to find her
- they take her back to their place and Adriana hallucinates all night long, remembering when she received her necklace from a shaman
- apparently Adriana is a sleep walker and the shaman gave her the pendant to keep her soul from wandering out of her body all the time
- in the morning Diego and Jacinto meet the son of the woman who took Adriana in and together they go to the hut
- relieved to find Adriana alive, Diego prepares to take her back home, but Carlos' men show up (they returned to search for Adriana's body and couldn't find it)
- the men start shooting, I believe they injure Jacinto in the leg

En Otra Piel

MONICA

- she is alive, too, the doctor isn't sure why she fainted, so he asks her to run some test to see what is going on
- Monica doesn't want to go to the hospital just yet, she has her farewell piano concert to prepare and her bratty daughter, Camilla, is in town
- everybody in the family is worried, except for Elena, the niece; even Gerardo, the deceiving husband seems somewhat worried
- during the episode there are several signs that Gerardo really cares for Monica in his own twisted, money hungry way
- Elena, his lover and partner in crime, calls him out on it, but he denies having any feelings for Monica
- Elena is determined to kill Monica and it's pretty clear that she's poisoning her, giving her other pills then the ones she's supposed to take
- Gerardo doesn't really agree with this, but he has no avocadoes, so he just goes along with it
- during her medical check up Monica asks the doctor if her condition might cause hallucinations, too
- during the night and the next day, as Adriana wakes up in the woods and during the shooting, Monica can "see" what is going on and is very scared
- she calls a detective and asks him to find Adriana (she shows him the cell photo)
- the detective goes to Mexico and to Carlos' bar (that's why Carlos asks his men to search for Adriana and hide her better)
- the next morning Monica goes to visit an old school friend, who is a journalist, hosting a paranormal show
- she tells her friend everything that has been going on since she met Adriana
- the friend seems reluctant to believe all this, asks Monica to enjoy her life
- in the middle of their lunch Monica has another hallucination, happening at the same time as the shooting

- in the meantime, back at the house, Camilla is still acting like a brat, while her younger sister doesn't like school and she will probably get a private french teacher and be home schooled soon
- the two lady servants start to realize that something is going on between Gerardo and Elena
- when Monica fainted while playing the piano, the older one saw both G and E coming out of the same room, one after the other
- the next day the younger servant overheard them talking, while Elena was reproaching Gerardo his affection for Monica
- so far Elena is threatening the older one to keep her mouth shut and the younger one doesn't really know what is going on

Thanks about the money that Carmina stole from Genesio. I didn't pay close attention in the beginning so I didn't know why he got that money in the first place.

Vivi, Camina has said Agatha is Max's daughter. She told Tifon that it's Geneseo's to add to his guilt regarding the accident. Tifon promised to raise her as his. So as far as we know Max and Camina are Agatha's parents.

Oi, Oi, Oi! Jorgito doesn't want to let Carmina in, but Tifon insists he hear her out. He wants to know who his Papa is. She tells him about the rape, how she also grew up in Tiradero and that when she left Jorgito there it wasn't for the long term. Just until she got back on her feet. She tells him her first husband (Genesio) didn't want him but Tifon did. He is his Papa. Jorgito agrees that Tifon might not be his bio Papa but is his Papa in his heart. Jorgito doesn't believe anything else that Carmina tells him. She's a liar and couldn't tell the truth if it was staring her in the face. He calls her a Ramera and a Ho. She slaps him. Tifon has to drag her out of there, and Jorgito sits on the floor and cries.

Now it is one up man ship with Noemia and Veronica. Tomas has come along with his Mama to Veronica's and Debora is happy to "meet her brother", they share a nice hug. Noemia starts with comparing the differing lifestyles, properties, etc. Carlitos provided for each of them. It gets to the screaming match again, so Debora and Tomas have to intervene and Tomas drags Noemia out of there.

At the honeymoon, Silas has injured his leg. The Doc tells Mona Lisa and she is concerned for his bad heart. Doc says absolutely nothing wrong with his heart. It's as strong as an ox. She finally realizes that Silas lied to her. She goes to the emergency room he's in and starts a beat down on him, two male nurses have to pull her off of him. Too funny. She ends up going back home and leaving him there.

Muricy and Ivana have a chat about what happened the night before. Ivana is giving Carmina a pass it seems. She is so grateful that Carmina introduced her to Max. Muricy is thinking about how much exactly Max knows about Carmina. Muricy also says that Carmina isn't the saint she pretends to be. Maybe Max knows some additional info, or has known all along. After all he was a friend of Genesio, Carmina's first husband or so they were told. Hmmmm.... Max comes out for a swim and Muricy is thinking.

Mona Lisa has made it home and tells the family about Silas' heart problem being a lie. She figures out they knew before the wedding. She isn't happy. She's been fooled.

Alexia is taking a yoga class and Carlitos shows up. He is determined he tells her, to win her over. No more three women. Just one to concentrate on. She'll go to dinner with him.

Carmina and Tifon go back home. He wants her to have a lie down. She wants him to go with. He'd rather not. She goes.

Jorgito shows up in the garden as Nina is taking the trash out. He wants to know how long she knew he was Carmina's bio son. She tells him that Nilo told her and she's only known for a little bit of time. Jorgito wants to know why she didn't say anything. She didn't want to cause him any pain. Nina assures him she is the same Rita she was at Tiradero. Nina's mission is to expose Carmina for what and who she is to the whole world. Jorgito thinks Nina still harbors feelings for him, he can see it in her eyes and the way she breathes. She says no, he's wrong and goes.

Tifon is reading a book, Sue 455 help here. I couldn't hear what the title was. Carmina wants him to come up to bed with her. She wants to have him by her, so she can hear his breathing etc. He ends up going up with her and she smirks.

Mona Lisa packs up Silas' things and here he comes, he's at the gate of her apt. building, she takes the stuff out to him. He tells her he lied for love, Tifon was always the ghost in their way, Silas is her reality. She disagrees. She's done the marriage is over! He cries like baby.

Tifon is awake and watching Carmina sleep. He remembers things she said. Carmina wakes up and Tifon isn't there. He is sitting in a chair in the room. She wonders if he slept at all. He tells her he is leaving the house. Carmina says QUE???? End of epi!

I forgot to add the Leleco part. Leleco is at home with Tessalia and she asks if Tifon will leave Carmina now. Leleco doesn't know, but he isn't liking Carmina at all. He wants Tessalia to ready the spare room for Tifon, in case he needs a place to stay. After she goes, Darson comes and Leleco wants him to continue the is she or isn't she true to Leleco. He wants Darson to take his shirt off, so Tessalia can get a good look. Darson is so over this. He keeps telling Leleco that Tessalia is very true to Leleco, but Leleco isn't buy it. What a jerk!

Madelaine: OK, I had to look this up. Tifón is reading a book called "O Primo Basílio" by the Portuguese author José María Eça de Queiroz. It was written in the late 1800s and it sounds as though Eça de Queiroz is a heavyweight in Portuguese literature. The only summary I could find is this from the Internet Movie Database:

"Luísa is a romantic, dreamy and delicate young woman married to Jorge, an engineer, a man of good habits and good economic conditions. They didn't know each other well, but got married and Luísa was a good wife, "she was clean and happy as a bird". Everything get changed when she meets a childhood love, her cousin Basílio. What seemed to be a great adventure will became a nightmare and Luísa will discover the price of her infidelity.

In 2007 a Brazilian movie version of the book was made. They moved the story to Brazil and placed it in the 1950s. The protagonist was played by none other than our Nina, Débora Falabella.

Loved Carmina's reaction which was basically "Eça who?"

A little treat for fans of Kate Del Castillo and Cristina Urgel...

En Otra Piel – Jueves

While having lunch with her friend the TV personality Mónica has visions of Carlos’ henchmen trying again and again to catch Diego and Jacinto in order to finish off Adriana (and them as well). They shoot and shoot.

In L.A. Ricardo, the studious brother, argues with his brother Gabriel about not taking Mónica up on her offer of paying for college. Gabriel is very cynical and says that M’s new husband won’t want her to keep paying. What’s more, he says they are only the sons of an alcoholic and a housekeeper.

There’s another leftover character from El Cuerpo del Deseo, a German Shepherd dog that adores Mónica and seems to know her moods.

Elena tries to poison Camila’s mind against her mother. She tells her that her mother is going to cut off her studies in Paris so she can stay at home and take care of her younger sister. And that Mónica is going on a long trip with Gerardo.

Camila is in the vineyards that are the basis of the family fortune. She remembers finding her father dying in that vineyard. She rags on about her mother being on tour and should have been there when he died. I may have to >>FF through Camila’s scenes very soon. Later Ricardo tries to talk sense to Camila about her mother.

Mónica returns home needing affection from Gerardo. They almost make love, but Elena calls him with some excuse about work at the office.

Aha! Mónica has a secret room behind a bookcase, just like in El Cuerpo del Deseo. She has some dusty looking furniture there and a portrait of her dead husband, Julián. She talks with him a while, saying how much she loved him. Then she removes the portrait, opens the safe behind it, and puts the dije (amulet or charm) inside.

The cause of Adriana’s almost being murdered, Jacinto, only has a minor wound. The doctor tells Diego that Adriana has a skull fracture, swelling of the brain, and … say it together boys and girls… Es grave. The doctor tells Diego to talk to her because his strong love might do her some good. We see a flashback of their first kiss and how funny she was. She wakes up and says his name.

Elena brings some document to Gerardo that she says will give them everything they want. He tells her it’s not necessary to kill Mónica; they’ve already taken lots from the company. She tells him he’d be in jail if not for her. She says the pills aren’t strong enough, but she gives him some power that she says will do the trick. All he has to do is put it in a glass of water and give it to her. [I got the strong impression that Elena was with him all along, got him into the company, and got him to seduce her aunt for the purpose of doing away with her.]

A cop has come to the hospital. He tells Diego there isn’t enough evidence to arrest Carlos. Diego calls Chucho at the bar because he could tell what he saw. But Chucho is too afraid to talk to the police. He hangs up, and when he turns away from the phone, Mónica’s detective asks him if he’s talking about the girl he’s looking for.

Selma finds an exact copy of the dije online. It’s an atrapa almas. Certain cultures believe that souls can wander. They give such a thing to sleepwalkers, and they are never to take it off. Mónica, looking frightened, says that this amulet contains Adriana's soul and that must be why she has those visions.

Gerardo, looking very troubled, finally puts the powder in a glass of water. Elena has sent him to get the water so she can give her the normal medicine.

Mónica then has a vision of Carlos entering Adriana’s hospital room. She is 100% there, and says out loud: ¡No te acerques! over and over (Don’t come near me!).

Variopinta:

Yes, those were Marta's panties that Ratas was stuffing in his pocket. He was the worst of the worst and how ironic that Teresa was the one that finally took him out. He always thought she was some dumb girl, didn't he?

Juanita:

This is a great telenovela isn't it? I didn't have Telemundo the first time it aired. When I finally got Telemundo, I saw this one was on and I couldn't resist. It was so compelling from start to finish.

Nanette:

It sure was different wasn't it? I and too liked the length. It was like watching a movie, it was so well done.

Deb:

I agree about what you said about the beginning, the middle and the end of this TN. I always thought that if Teresa had had the money for a legit bidness she would have been fantastic at it. She has such a head for numbers.

Neicie:

I too didn't like that Pote died and Marta's rape and murder and her kids being killed, that was too horrid. I too wondered what had happened to Willy. Unless he started to figure out that that Colonel was in Epifanio's pocket and he was going to get troops that couldn't be bought. But still to leave her and Pote alone like that. I noticed when he finally showed up the Colonel was nowhere to be seen. I also thought the same as you did about Teresa's relationships with those you listed. What I also really liked was Teresa escaping Flores' clutches. He never got what he wanted!

Kelly:

The telenovela to me, was about Teresa's journey. I don't think drug dealing was something she wanted to get into, but when she met El Guero, she got pulled in and stayed with it. By the way, she didn't kill that Galician, Oleg did. I was really surprised by Batman too. The way they portrayed him I thought he was heartless all the time. Come to find out, he wasn't and he helped Teresa at the end. I too think he probably took over Epifanio's bidness and he will surely make his life in prison hell for what happened to his family. I like your idea of where Teresa ended up.

Sue 455:

Thanks about Mona Lisa's cousin. I wasn't sure if his name was Primo or he was the cousin. It was too funny how Silas was playing it off. It came to bite him in the end didn't it?

Josie:

I'm with you about Carmina and her bs. She'll keep feeding it and feeding it, but it is coming to bite her in the butt too. Now Tifon is leaving her. I hated the smirk she did behind Tifon's back yesterday. She really thought she had him right where she wanted him. I'm waiting for the day that Tifon finds out about Max. I am conflicted about Mama Lucinda too. She has helped all those kids at Tiradero. She won't leave there, as Nilo did. I wonder what keeps her there besides the kids and what her back story is. She does have that connection to Carmina, being a sort of adoptive Mama, if that part of Carmina's story is true.

Deb:

I am glad you are following this one. It is a really great telenovela. The characters are so very multi dimensional. Especially Carmina. My favorite character is Nina though. I want to see what else she is going to do to Carmina.

Vivi:

We are all scratching our heads about Carlitos too. The guy isn't even all that, lol. Maybe it's the way he bamboozles all these women. I have to say for a bigamist he sure took care of his women. Posh places to live, wonderful lifestyle. I bet he never thought he'd be caught. Now he is telling Alexia he can be a one woman man. I highly doubt it, but it's funny to see him pursue Alexia. I wonder if she will cave?

Romy:

Thanks so much for the added info about Agatha's parentage. I never really knew who Agatha's Papa was. Thanks for that. I hate the way Carmina treats Agatha. She is always so cold and snippy with her. Even Max treats her better than Carmina. I do like how Nina treats Agatha.

Sue 455:

Thanks so much about the book Tifon was reading, the author and the synopsis. I heard Eca thought it was Ecco. Humberto Ecco the one that wrote "The Name of the Rose", it's a thriller and thought maybe that wasn't it. Interesting about the movie role for Nina. Whatever writer is writing about the books that Tifon is reading must be very well read. It is interesting the titles he/she chooses to "give" Tifon to read.

Part I

What an epi! First we start off with Tifon and Carmina when he says he is leaving the house. It's not a separation he says, but in order to get his head and priorities in the right place he is going for awhile. She begs, she pleads, she whines but he is firm and is going. Later, as the family gathers for breakfast, he tells them he is going. As Nina hears this she smirks. Leleco has come to pick him up. Muricy feels if anyone should be leaving, it's Carmina, but Tifon again stands firm. He leaves with Leleco.

Mona Lisa announces to everyone at Diogene's bar that she has split with Silas and why. The guys go to see Silas to get the low down. Silas is hesitant to come out but does and tells them he did it all for love. He loves Mona Lisa so much he had to lie to her in order for her to commit to him. They kind of understand and forgive him.

After everyone goes, Max sees Nina and he says alone again. He is trying to put the moves on her once again, he even takes his shirt off, in front of her, to show his ahem, non chiseled bod. He goes and she has the EWWWWW smirk on her face.

Nina brings breakfast to Carmina who isn't doing too well. She is spiraling out of control again. She blames all this mess on Rita, I think. She vows to get her man back and gets ready to go out.

Carmina goes to see Mama Lucinda and is loaded for bear. Why did she say anything? She hates her so bad, she is going to kill her for betraying her. Carmina puts her hands around Mama Lucinda's throat and chokes her, as Mama Lucinda begs for her life. Then Carmina picks up a knife and is going to cut her, but that doesn't go anywhere either. Carmina says there is one person in all this world she loves and that is Jorgito. Mama Lucinda took that away from her. She regrets ever knowing Mama Lucinda. Finally, Mama Lucinda tells her just kill me then, go on and do it. Carmina says she is going to let Mama Lucinda live, to suffer and pine away. Carmina goes. Mama Lucinda collapses on the bed.

Part II

Tifon calls Jorgito and tells him about leaving the house.

Suelen gives Mona Lisa the chisme that Tifon has moved in with Leleco.

Leleco and Tifon have arrived at Leleco's place. Leleco fills him in on "proving Tessalia's fidelity to Leleco" plan and about Darson. Tifon, I think, thinks Leleco is crazy. Meanwhile, Darson is at a pool with Tessalia. She doesn't know how to swim and he is teaching her how to float. Too funny. His eyes are everywhere, but especially her boobies and legs and he keeps dropping her in the water. Finally they get out of the pool.

Mona Lisa is on a walk with Olenka and they see a soccer game that Tifon and Jorgito are playing in. Tifon sees Mona Lisa and goes to talk to her. They make a plan to go out manana. Mona Lisa thinks it's like karma how Tifon is "separated" from Carmina and that she has dumped Silas. Later at home Iran doesn't think it's so great for Mona Lisa to be going with Tifon, she should be thinking of getting back with Silas. Mona Lisa tells them that Silas is dead to her y punto!

Jorgito is spending the night at Leleco's too and they have a nice bonding time. Tifon assures Jorgito that he is his son, whether bio or not. He's in his heart. He asks Jorgito if he should be going with Mona Lisa. Jorgito tells him to do what his heart tells him, cause Tifon says he does understand Carmina's "suffering" all those years, but to lie. Tifon isn't sure where to go from here. Jorgito gets it and Tifon asks him about the "other" that Jorgito was interested in. Jorgito tells him Debora loves him, he's happy. But when Tifon presses, Jorgito says he thinks about that "other" girl all the time. Tifon wants to know if Debora is enough for him. Jorgito says she is.

Carmina has come home from almost killing Mama Lucinda and runs into Max. He thinks their game might just be up, and he tells her about Muricy asking him about how much/long he has known Carmina. Carmina tells him to leave the family to her, cause after all she's had them in her hand lo, these ten years! What will Carmina do now? Will Tifon and Mona Lisa finally get back together? Tune in Este Lunes to find out!

Novelera and Adriana Noel - Thanks. I watched for the first time last night and could follow along due to your recaps.

I like both Monica and Adriana. Gerardo doesn't seem that smart and I don't get the feeling that he's really into Elena beyond a bed hop. Animals are always welcome with me, so I hope the horse and the dog stay in the TN.

En Otra Piel

thanks so much novelera!
I really have been missing your take on things,
and it's so nice to have a recap at the start when everything is up in the air and I'm trying to get oriented.

I'm loving Adriana and all of the pizzazz she brings to the screen, I wish she wasn't out-of-action.

all of the action is nice, but a little clutsy,

Camila is so different than the character Isabel she played on "Dama y Obrero" that I'm caught up in that, and she rides so well.

Gerardo seems more like a dummy than a multidimensional bad guy,

and I don't know if I'm up for spending 6 months with Elena, we all know she's evil, could we just get rid of her now.

Thank you, Noevelera. I just watched the episode and I'm still enjoying the story, but I'm getting a little bit impatient, because I'm waiting for the soul swap or whatever that will be.

Elena is trash, but so far I find Camila much more unlikable. When Elena lied that Monica doesn't want to pay her Paris stay anymore, I thought her head was going to explode. As far as I understand, she's not studying in Paris, she's just living there. If she wants to go back to Europe, maybe she should consider paying her own way, me thinks. She looks old enough to have a job and I believe she is entitled to some money from the company/ family fortune that her mom can't touch.
She's just a brat, pure and simple.

Diego seems to really love Adriana and I believe him when he says he'd follow her to the end of the world if he had to. I wonder who is our prota here, Diego or Gerardo? The promos didn't make it too clear, I guess not even the writers know for sure. This keeps me intrigued enough, I think I'm going to like the tn.
I hope enough of us will be in here every day to keep the talk going.

Ah, that was a comment for EN OTRA PIEL. Sorry, I forgot!

EN Otra Piel

Ok, I thought I was done, but I'm not :)

Deb, when I look at Gerardo, I see the same type of galan that we sometimes get from Telemundo: goodlooking but good for nothing. Easy to manipulate, listens to all the bad advice he gets from the villains, can never make up his mind about anything. Gerardo is supposed to be a villain, but I think he'll change faster than we expect.

Niecie, from Gerardo and Elena's talks, we are to believe that they've been together a while, plotting and deceiving Monica. But, just like you, I totally believe that Gerardo doesn't really care about Elena, he just used her as a meal ticket for a while and now he doesn't know how to make her slow down the crazy.
I'm sure that if Elena dropped dead tomorrow (we should be that lucky), he'd just go on living his nice life with Monica.

Novelera, I'm pretty sure Monica's husband didn't just fall off the horse, he was such a good rider (eye roll) - Camila said it at least a dozen times, so that we KNOW someone caused his accident. Nobody better than Elena for this nice job and this gives us a better knowledge of her long time plan to get her hands on the money.

Avenida Brasil

Thanks so much Mads for another stellar recap. I plan on catching up on some earlier episodes that I missed this weekend.

If Carmina has told Max that Agatha is his, then I wonder if that is a lie. Agatha looks so different that the two of them (actually, she looks like Tifon), and why would she treat Agatha so dismissively, while she adores Jorgito? Is it because she’s a girl, or because she’s not the child of her long-time lover Max?

In any case, I love the way the poor/formerly poor characters in this tn adopt children and consider them family, regardless of blood ties. Tifon and his family with Jorgito and Agatha; Monalisa and her adopted son; Mama Lucinda and all her kids. Is Silas’ son his bio child? Tifon’s family is fun and fun-loving, even when they argue, and even though they are sort of ghetto-fabulous and over the top. Max and Carmina look like total idiots when they roll their eyes and sneer at them, like they are so much better and classy.

Max taking off his shirt to try to tempt Nina—hilarious!

Avenida Brasil

Madelaine, lol about Max's unchiseled body. He sure likes to show it off. I need to stock up on alka seltzer.

Seems like Ma Lucinda is somehow indebted to Carmina and maybe also Max. I wonder what they are holding over her head. Must be something major for her to cave in the way she does.

Vivi, I agree about how ridiculous Max and Carmina look when they roll their eyes in judgement of the family. They're both as low as you can get.

Gerardo is a himbo. :) When I saw him in that big office, I wondered what, exactly, his responsibilities are. I can't believe they put him in charge of anything important.

And a question. I'm not that familiar yet with the telenovela format. Are they going to keep telling us onscreen when it's Los Angeles or Mexico? That's already starting to get on my nerves. It's not exactly that hard to figure out.

Vivi, Carmina's problem with Agatha is because she's a girl. that's my guess. Remember she's a former prostitute and probably was abused as a girl. Anyway, she had just slept with Tifon when she found out she was pregnant. If you watch that episode she never doubted who the father was when Max asked her if it was Tifon's she said "don't be ridiculous" Romy

AVENIDA BRASIL, Sexta-feira

¡Cuidado Monalisa! After seeing what Carmina is capable of today your life is in danger. She will not take her husband going out with his ex lying down.

I wonder if a possible revenge for Nina is to take Tifón from Carmina. He does have a crush on her and she just told him if he were to leave the house permanently she would go with him.

Avenida Brasil

Sue- I think if Jorgito weren't in the picture, Nina would steal Tifon from Carmina in a heartbeat. But just think how devastated Jorgito would be, and that would get really messy. I hope what she does instead is encourage Tifon to go after Monalisa. But I feel bad for Silas.

En Otra Piel

Was hoping for a recap, but it didn't appear.

Friday's episode was VERY dramatic and full of violence.

Selma has come to Mónica's house to tell her about the meaning of the necklace. Mónica is completely transported to D.F. and Adriana's hospital room. She sees Evil Carlos approaching. He tells her that he's going to make her boyfriend and her brother suffer because she scarred his face. It's fading in my memory, but I think he wants her to live and continue to suffer.

In L.A. Mónica returns to her own body and comforts her younger daughter, Emiliana, who is terrified by her mother's behavior.

Gerardo brings back the requested glass of water, but we see that he dumped the one with the powder in it down the sink. Elena is furious. Mónica drinks the water.

Mónica clings to Gerardo in their bedroom telling him how much she loves him. He seems almost to reciprocate. They are about to make love when, again, Elena comes into the room and interrupts. [No locks on inside-the-mansion doors in Telenovelaland.] Of course, this is absolutely ridiculous that Mónica tolerates this behavior.

Elena tells her some paperwork URGENTLY has to be handled and right now. When Mónica is going through the stack of documents needing her signature [and how did Elena produce those in a NY minute?] Elena produces a hypodermic and sticks it in her neck. She tells her tía that she's injected something that will stop her heart and soon.

Mónica tries to cry out, but Evil Elena claps her hand over her mouth. Eventually someone [one of the daughters, can't remember?] enters the room just as Mónica dies and Elena pretends to be trying to help her. Mad grief by everyone in the household. We also see the dog going crazy, even before Elena actually does something, during, and after the murder.

In D.F. Diego catches Carlos in Adriana's room, but he gets away. Diego chases him, but the guy gets away in an SUV. Not sure exactly why (fear) Adriana flatlines. David is beside himself with grief.

Also, a thug enters Jacinto's room and slits his throat (Ew!). I was surprised to see Óscar Priego written out so soon as his roles in Relaciones Peligrosas and Dama y Obrero lasted longer. I was thinking he was getting typecast as the young man who misbehaves a lot at the beginning and reforms toward the end.

Either the hospital officials or the police insist on an autopsy. Of course, we in Viewerville know they aren't going to cut her up. The pathologist even fires up his bone saw, menacingly, before Diego rushes in and tells them not to cut up his sweetie pie.

Her eyes pop open, and when Diego rushes to her, she pulls back a little, cluing us in that it's Mónica, and not Adriana on the autopsy table.

OTRA PIEL

My streaming is spotty, but managed to catch a few chunks of this one this week. I've loved Maria Elisa since Llena del Amor! It will be interesting to see how her character develops, she's been fun to watch so far.

I'm pretty much "meh" on everyone else (what a transformation for Inv-isabel from DYO!).

Not a fan of the spirit-switching genre, but we'll see how long I can last. Thanks so much for the recaps!! I can only get bits and pieces with my spotty internet!

En otra piel

Thank you so much for the recap, Novelera! I wanted to write one during the weekend, but I couldn't find the show on the TM site. Hopefully I have better luck today.

Another Amy, I quite enjoy the story, which is strange because the paranormal stuff is a total turn off for me. Maybe this will be the next tn that we watch together (yey!)

I think I could do the Friday recaps from now on. Mentir para vivir will be over this week, so I'm recaps-free. I would do one during the week, but I can't find the shows online until later in the day.

AVENIDA BRASIL General

Vivi:

Yes, I don't get why Carmina treats Agatha so shabbily. Agatha gets more love from everyone else, including Nina, but Carmina treats her like she couldn't be bothered. I too agree about how all the others adopt/take care of children, except for Max and Carmina who constantly look down their noses, and in Carmina's case robbing money from orphans.

Romy:

I agree with you too about Carmina not liking Agatha cause she is a girl. Carmina doesn't really care about girls does she? For that matter she has no close female friends either. Carmina does confide in Nina, but I don't think she considers Nina a true friend.

Sue 455:

I agree that Mona Lisa would be in danger if Carmina finds out that Tifon is taking her out. Tifon, I think, isn't completely over Carmina yet. I can't remember but when Tifon left Mona Lisa at the altar, did they ever have closure after that? I can also see why Mona Lisa still harbors a grudge against Carmina. I think Mona Lisa has had Carmina's number all along as in she's a scammer.

Josie

Laughed at your alka seltzer comment! I too wonder what exactly Max and Carmina have over Mama Lucinda where she caves all the time. I remember Carmina saying once that if she goes down Mama Lucinda goes down too. I wonder what she meant by that?

Vivi:

I agree with you about Nina not taking Tifon from Carmina. Nina wouldn't do anything that would hurt Jorgito. She's seen the effect on Jorgito when he found out Carmina is in fact Jorgito's bio Mama. But she did tell Tifon she wanted to go with him if he left Carmina. I guess we'll have to see what Nina is going to do now.

PIEL

Not sure if I'm going to stick with this one. I was hoping for a switch between bodies, but it looks like Adriana is dead. I think she died because Monica died. That's the impression I got. I'm watching this for Maria Elisa and am happy that she's going to play a different character than she played in PEAM. Loved her in that and am excited about seeing her do something more dramatic. However, I really like the actor who's playing Monica and will miss her.

Nanette

En Otra Piel

Nanette, the character of Adriana did die, but she is now inhabited by Mónica. It is sad that the bouncy, full of vim and vigor Adriana is probably gone. I suspect we will see confusion at first, and then a completely different Adriana will emerge.

Hi, I just ran across this site. May I ask where you're based? And do you watch the novelas with English subtitles or dubbed? Or in the original?

I ask because I've dubbed the majority of the shows you talk about here (into English) but I never get to see them afterwards
