Que pobres tan ricos #59 Mar 28 2014: Mini arrives at La Nopalera looking for MA... Nepo keeps hoping against hope, plans another proposal... A-hole wants to find dirt on Saul's past to force him to drop MA
MA and Saul at Chinese rest, MA very ansy about ‘how will we prove my innocence?’ Saul says ‘I wish I had the magic wand to solve this but I don’t.’ But he promises MA they will find a way out, just be patient. Won’t leave you alone.
The maid telling Mini that the RP do not live here… Isela rubs it on Mini, Mini whines back at her about not my fault MA lied to me. Isela suggests Mini ask MA directly where he lives. Mini responds ‘duh!! You are as dumb as blonde!’ I asked him a dozen times.
Lupe and MA, he kids around that he has as much of a money launderer as… then he changes the subject to her smile… someday I will solve my problems and will be able to leave here. (and get off your back)… he thanks her for listening, and leaves for work… Lupe stays there sort of sad, thinking (probably about the day he solves his problems and leaves)…
Tato receives a call from Mini… She gives him all kinds of excuses (birds on the wire, literally she said that!) about not contacting him before. She asks him to do her a favor. Tato says ‘well, maybe, maybe not, how about we discus it over coffee?’ He reminds her she called him ‘teto’ once (ouch!).. he brags about having a long career as a giggolo Mini suggests they meet at the café. He agrees and sends her a kiss.
Bambi arrives at his aunt’s house. He kisses her, she pulls his ears, not that happy to see him. Then he gives her a couple dozen excuses for not having come before. She asks him what he is here for. He says he has to hide here in her place for a while, not too long. She rants at him about remembering her only when he needs something. He tells her the story, the cops are after him. She says ‘I always knew it!’ She dies not want to be involved in his crimes… he has to beg her, kiss her hand many times… she says she will do it for his mother, not for him. You will not stay here lounging around while I am your maid. He swears he will do what she wants but as long as she won’t tell anyone he is here. He is still down on his knees… but finally she gives in.
Tato and a friend are talking in the car, he brags that Mini will ‘fall’ anytime now. (the subway product placement on camera is obvious, Tato and his friend even talk about the chipotle southwest sandwich)
At work, MA and Trofeo talk. Trofeo suggests he take the ‘assistant’ job. MA tells him that is just a faccade for what he really wants, that MA help him get Lupe. Then Trofeo and MA talk ‘market’ language… funny how MA relates to other vendors as ‘fino caballero’ (fine gentleman).. LOL!
Now they follow the subway ad on the novella with a subway sandwich with Johny Lozada.
AS is writing something… Mati asks her if she is writing her memoirs, she is wasting her time, no one would be interested in them… AS says well, at least I am doing something to try to help our cause.. She is planning to give etiquette classes at La Nopalera (Mati and Fria both laugh).
At the fruteria, MA tells Nepo still not willing to help him out with Lupe… Nepo was going to ask him about ideas to improve the business… MA brings out his business man side, ideas about marketing to other markets, advertising, etc. Nepo tells him that he started from scratch and got this far on his own efforts. Then a woman came to his life… he fell in love like crazy. They began to go out, and Diego Armando was born of that relationship. So you can imagine how important that woman was to me. (Could this be leading to Vilma? Just an idea). When the business went well, tried to reunite with DA’s mom. But one day she just picked up her stuff and left. MA says sorry for what happened to you. Nepo says had never told this to anyone. Always wanted to share his life with a wonderful woman, but maybe that is why he is trying so hard to recover ‘mi lupita’. He leaves and MA stays there feeling very guilty.
At the fonda, Lupe, Emiliano, Frida, Leo and Mati are eating together… Lupe tells them a story about what life was when she was younger. Lupe tells them about a family tradition started by her parents of giving thanks for what they have. Perla adds that after the that they head to the beach and she gets a great tan… (I might have missed something here if they were talking about a given holiday in particular).
Chuy talking to a picture of his wife. Have good news for her. After we lost that money we have not lacked money or work. And that gives me hope that we will be able to fix the mess we have with the house deed. But this weekend will take the trip to see Senor (I missed something here). I think this is the same trip Lupe was talking about that they make every year… Anyway Chuy tells her even for this he misses her so bad. Lupe comes from behind and hugs him.
Perla and Diego Armando are talking out on the street. She invites him to the trip… even if you don’t go for the ceremony you can still come with us to the beach… DiegoA asks if the ‘cousins’ are coming along too. Perla is not thrilled that DA asks if they are going.
Lupe tells Chuy she also misses her mom everyday, even when she left 15 years go… Chuy is very upset, he has never understood why they had to lose his wife so soon. Lupe says you have taught us to enjoy and value the things we have every day. Chuy wishes Lupe could see her mother’s pride every time she talks like that. Chuy gets a bit more excited about the trip. What he is worried about is they will heave the Fonda behind with all the RP inside. He will pack while Lupe gets the gang together. Chuy kisses the photo of his wife and says ‘I will tell you all about it later’.
AS is trying on the first dress Carmelita made for her… it doesn’t look bad (like someone made a dress out of a gold table cover, which is what that is anyway), except is not quite snug to her body and this is what AS complains about. Carmelita calls her ‘guera’ and AS is not thrilled. AS suggests to Carmelita she will give her etiquette classes. Carmelita laughs, that is not the type of classes we use to have around. AS insists Carmela will be her first student on the etiquette class… Carmelita not laughing anymore.
Tato and Mini meet at the café. He throws cheesy prop after cheesy prop, she rolls her eyes and looks away… funny the body language said more than their dialogue. She starts caressing his arm to try to get any info out of him about where Frida lives. He mentioned ‘La Nopalera’ and this caught Mini’s attention. She also remembered the ‘camote’ vendor mentioning La Nopalera. Mini then gets very ansy about Tato giving her all the details he remembers about where he saw that Frida lives. Mini asks for any landmarks, a gas station, anything that could help her identify the place. Tato does not remember anything else… He tries to get her to agree to continue the meeting elsewhere. She makes her exit faster than he can say one more word.
AS keeps insisting on the etiquette class to Carmelita and Don CHuy comes in. He does not want AS to fail again like with the garage sale. How about if you make flyers announcing the class? AS compliments Don CHuy on his idea and effort to help. Unlike others (looking at Carmela).
Nepo and DiegoA are eating at home. DA is sort of distracted while Nepo is telling him a story. Nepo asks what is going on… DiegoA mentions the Menchacas trip to La banda (or stte) and to the beach. Nepo seems to come up with the idea of them two tagging up with the Menchacas… (that is my guess).
They are all eating at the fonda… AS comes in saying they ALL should take her class… AS is even nice to Perla… Lupe, Perla, Tizoc and Emiliano were just eating a snack before the trip…
At the Mercado, Nepo gives a basket to Trofeo to take to Lupe… Also stop by and buy her a big bunch of flowers… He also wants Trofeo to find out if there is room in their car. Otherwise he and DiegoA will take the truck. He wants to propose again to Lupita at the beach. This time he will even bring a ring. Trofeo is shutting his mouth, probably to try not to say anything that might cost him his job. MA comes in and Nepo tells him ‘have to go, but maybe when I get back we will be cousins in a different way’.
At hospital, A-hole is impatient about leaving the hospital. Vilma comes in, tells him she has found some details about Saul Ballesteros that might help them convince him to leave MA’s case.
MA arrives back at the fonda… Lupe tells him where everyone else is… but he won’t let her. He gives her a big smooch. She rants at him a bit, makes him sit down. MA tells her he talked to Nepo again, but Nepo is a tough rival. Lupe asks if he gave up already. MA says ‘you have never seen me play polo, you don’t know the warrior MA RP.’ Then he begins a demo of karate moves and trapeze rolls, etc etc.
The driver arrives at the hospital to Vilma and A-hole. A-hole asks the driver if he has told anyone about the incident. No no one. A-hole asks driver what Mini has done… Driver says I did not know I had to keep watching her. A-hole mad at him ‘next time I will drive ahd you stay .. AAAAYYY!!’ (he moved and it hurt)
At the school, Frida runs into Tato’s friends. She tells them Tizoc is looking for more musicians. She is trying to convince them to try out something more ‘authentic, for more general crowds’. But they are not even willing to hear more about it… On her way out after she gave up on them, she walks right by Tato and doesn’t even flinch…
Mini and her mom have driven to La Nopalera. Mini is asking how could anyone live in a horrible place like this? Mini tells her mom she recognized the Chinese restaurant she met with MA recently so it all fits. Then the camote vendor goes right by them with the loud loud whistle and yelling… Mini tells Isela now they only have to find the place where the ‘anarco-fashion’ Frida gave that concert.
Vilma still giving A-hole the debriefing about how well things are going at the office (much better than if he was there, he takes it as if he were the victim). Vilma starts rubbing his hand again… tells him there are things she can’t sleep at night worrying about. What about Bambi? A-hole expects the police to catch up with him, and thee won’t be any proof that links him to me. IF there were, you can take care of it, right? Vilma confirms… A-hole asks Vilma to call his wife on the cell phone. Mini won’t answer the cell phone so A-hole gets mad squeezing something.
Don CHuy and AS are walking around posting the flyers. She whines about getting tired. He suggests they take a break on a bench nearby. Once they sit there, he invites her to the trip. AS laughs and then asks ‘do you really think I, AS RPR would go to ‘the chalma?’ and then get into a beach with so much prole? ‘ Suddenly she stands up when she sees Mini and Isela roaming around. AS tries to call MA. She doesn’t get a line, Don Chuy left his at the house.
Frida is posting a notice in the college ad board… Tato comes by and mocks her attempt to get musicians for Tizoc. Frida is so bored and fed up with Tato, she turns away from him.
MA is helping Lupe put some things in the higher shelves… He wants a kiss as pay. She at first refuses but then she is the one climbing the ladder to kiss him… once… twice… three… this time she does not climb down…
Outside on the street entrance to the aisle, Mini and Isela wonder if this is the right place. AS is watching them from the other side of the wall… Mini and Isela walk into the fonda, MA hears Mini when she asks ‘is anyone here??’ and stops kissing Lupe and gets scared ‘Minerva!’ …

I liked when Frida ignored Tato and I also don't like his friends either. They continue to call Tizoc a naco and think they are better musicians than him. I am glad Frida told them that Tizoc is way better than them, and draws a bigger audience.
Mini made laugh, she has the nose of a bloodhound, she always finds her man! I can't wait for Monday to see if MA hides out or what.
Bambi was too funny too and I'm glad his Tia gave him the riot act. Now what is he gonna do at La Nopalera? I wonder if he too will run into MA.
Nepo is beyond the pale, really, follow Lupe to the beach??? Oh, she is so gonna love that, NOT!
Julie was right about the etiquette classes, and I bet if Carmela has to sit through them, she'll be throwing spitballs at AS.
I hope Ahole screws up big time. Without Vilma he would be lost. I felt so sorry for poor Beto, now Ahole is mad at him for not following Mini around, but I'm glad he didn't this time.
I looked up Chalma and it refers to a pilgrimage site. Maybe that is where the Menchaca are going first before going to the beach.
It would be a hoot if all the RPs went with the Menchaca to see how a normal person has a few days off, instead of the French Riveria, or The Italian Gold Coast.

Looks like Bambi's aunt is the chicken selling/tapeche drinking woman from the market. They made a point of showing her store with the "Bambi Chicken" sign. It was funny how he played the "little nephew" role with her. What I liked the most was her telling him she wasn't going to be the maid. Maybe he'll be choppin' up some chicken! Re: Bambi: what came first the nephew or the business?
Another thing I liked was hearing the back stories of don Chuy and Nepo. What I didn't like was stubborn Nepo planning on proposing to Lupita one more sorry time.
MA needs to learn how to do a proper cartwheel.

The trip to Chalma sounds like fun, plus it should move our cast to another locale for a breather. Can't believe Nepo doesn't understand that Lupita is NOT his novia.

Thanks Marta! I got a wild hair and decided to watch a couple episodes and this episode seemed particularly fast and slang-filled (and I even had the Spanish CCs on!) Your recap was very helpful.
I'm glad I caught this episode because I am really interested in the trip to Chalma. I wonder how many episodes before they actually head out.

I too am looking forward to the trip to Chalma. I had a chance years ago (many) when I was in Chihuahua Mex on a business trip to watch the posadas procession with the image of the virgin and it took me back home in my memories to the via crucis we had on good friday every year as I was growing up... Beautiful demonstration of faith and culture. So I can't wait to see what the chalma tradition is all about.

I wonder if AS will reluctantly accept the invitation now that Isela and Mini are checking out her hideout? I don't want to see the RPs left alone at the fonda, especially with Nepo and Diego planning to be at Chalma. Let's all go and bring along Carmelita too. But then my poor Gwendy would be left out.

Thanks, Marta! I watched this yesterday but didn't understand most of it and had no idea they were planning a trip! I hope my comprehension is a little better for tonight's episode.
Nepo and Vilma?? Hmmm... I don't think she's the woman from his past, because she seemed unfamiliar with the neighborhood. But who knows - maybe she was faking. It certainly would be nice to know something about her past, and where the heck she came from, wouldn't it?
I think Evelin was actually the first to guess correctly about the etiquette lessons. But if anyone in that neighborhood needs etiquette lessons, it's Ana Sofia herself.
Nepo needs some kind of lessons too. Like an "effective listening" course or a "know when to fold 'em" motivational speech.
I can't decide if it's a good idea for AS to go on the trip or not. If the house is empty, someone could break in and steal some of the RPs' stuff. Which would serve AS right... but it would not improve morale at the house at all.

If he thinks women are really that capricious, does he think that Lupita would actually marry him if she agreed to marry him at any given time? By his own logic, she could easily change her mind again the next day, or the next week. What exactly is he aiming for? A maybe-wife who isn't that attached and may leave him at any time? Does he think a marriage certificate would force her to stay?

I think Nepo's behavior is that of someone who is so completely goal-oriented that if he has once decided to do something, he can't let go of it, no matter how senseless it now seems. I think accomplishing the goal and checking it off is more important to him than the goal itself (i.e. being married to Lupita).
That just makes Nepo the saddest character in the show because he's such a "good guy" in other respects. I hope he and Gwendy find true love. Ahhhhh.

Wasn't the scene of Lupita and MA on the ladder and Minerva approaching shown in promos MONTHS ago? Is that how they do promos now? Hey, look! The baddie might get what he's got coming! The leads might get some snoozle time! But then it doesn't happen for four months.
