Que Pobres Tan Ricos #73: 4/17/14 : Suelta La Sopa, Por Favor!
Hola Mis Amguis! This recap is on the fly, so please fill in anything I missed/got wrong. I have an earworm that is perfecto for Ahole. Have a listen: You're So Vain!
Shall we begin? Lupe is cleaning the house and talking to MA. She keeps making him move so she can get the floor under his feet and he even adds more cleaner to her bucket. They are discussing when they should tell their families about them being an item, of course, and also Nepo. Well, MA wants to do it sooner rather than later, but Lupe wants him to wait some, cause of the fraud accusation and other things. Knocky, Knocky on the door and who is it? Special Delivery, of flowers, and what a nice arrangement it is too! Lupe accepts them and is so very happy MA got them for her, that she gives him lots of sugar, but the problem is MA didn't send her those flowers. Lupe thinks maybe Nepo sent them, and of course MA isn't happy over that, even though earlier he said Nepo was a nice guy.
Meanwhile, Nepo is at work with Trofeo who wants to know where My Name Mike is? Well, he's working from home today, crunching numbers for that juice account.
Later, we see that Ahole sent those flowers and is just betting that Lupe will love them and will wonder who sent them.
Knocky, Knocky on the door again and it's more flowers and some fruit, but this time they know that Nepo sent them, due to the fruit you see. MA thinks maybe she has a secret admirer she doesn't know about. Lupe looks a mite worried.
Vilma has draped herself on Ahole's desk, and is vamping a bit and asks Ahole if he is more like Casanova or Don Juan maybe, she has some buttons undone on her blouse and is vamping for him, but of course, he ignores her and she shashays out of the room. Ahole watches that and could care less.
AS is wanting to teach her etiquette class and she has roped Don Chuy, and Tizoc to this class with Perla and Mati in attendance. Don Chuy looks, shall we say, less than enthused as does Tizoc. Tizoc however is saved by a head wave from Frida and they go off together, it's bidness. Perla looks like she is showing them how to eat soup properly.
Vilma is meeting Mini for the divorce matter and Mini calls her Myrna. Has she got a lawyer, of course she does. The doorbell rings and Mini yells for Ayuki louder than Isela. It's her lawyer and it's Saul, 'natch. Vilma looks less than enthused.
Nepo wants the chisme on how Lupe liked those flowers/fruit. What was her reaction? Trofeo tells him about that other arrangement of flowers that Lupe got. At first Nepo thinks they might have been for MA from his "friend" but nopis, they were for Lupe. Nepo less than pleased.
Frida has taken Tizoc to Mau's club. The name of it is "El Son de Corazon". Tizoc finally meets Mau. Frida tells Mau that Tizoc is the singer of that band. Stupid Tato and his BFF show up too.
Lupe and MA are now in the kitchen he is crunching numbers and working on the proposal for that juice account and MA's cell phone rings and it's Nepo wanting a meet, yesterday if you please! MA is all for talking to Nepo now, but Lupe tells him no way! He doesn't see things her way, and another Knocky, Knocky on the door! It's Ahole telling Lupe to open the door for him! Both MA and Lupe are stunned.
Tato is giving Tizoc hell at the club and Mau has to get between Tato and Tizoc. Frida gives Tato hell and says that Tizoc has way more class than him. Mau tells Tato this is bidness and bidness is bidness. Tato calls Frida Pocahontas and tells her good luck.
MA is in a panic and tells Lupe not to answer the door, but Lupe has to, to make Ahole go away, so MA takes off and Lupe answers the door and Ahole asks how she liked the roses he sent her. He is also bearing some gifts.
MA has gone up to the Penthouse and warns AS and Leo that Ahole is on the premises. Where is Mati? She's not there so MA goes off to look for her. AS and Leo are discussing a ring for Maca.
Ahole tells Lupe he is not going until he talks to her and he asks her flat out if Emi is his son. Lupe tells him that Emi is indeed his son.
MA has caught Mati just in time, before she opened that kitchen door, he takes her upstairs.
Ahole is pithed that Lupe never told him about Emi. Well she tried, but he was too busy with Mini that day, you remember that day don't you, she asks him? He claims he isn't like that anymore, but here comes Don Chuy and Perla to save the day. Don Chuy so doesn't like what he is seeing, but Perla does. Don Chuy sends Perla off and Don Chuy introduces himself to Ahole as Jesus Menchaca, Hijo de Sumatra, Lupe's Papa and won't shake Ahole's hand. Ahole talks to both of them and tells them he realizes he didn't treat Lupe with respect and treated her badly, and that Don Chuy doesn't think well of him at all, but he's changing his ways, yeah right, sure, sure. He wants Emi to know who he is and wants to get to know Emi. Lupe wants nothing to do with Ahole or his apology she tells Ahole.
All the RPs are now in the Penthouse, except Frida, who is at the club. MA is going back down to spy and find out why Ahole is there. Mati remarks that Ahole, AS and Leo are all cut from the same cloth, they are so ambitious. AS and Leo don't get it.
Don Chuy tells Ahole all these years they have not needed his support, they take care of their own. Ahole isn't leaving till he talks to Emi, so Don Chuy pulls him up, injuring the "injury" so to speak and Ahole has got to get to a bathroom. Ahole tells them he had an operation, and Lupe doesn't beleive it. Don Chuy escorts him to the bathroom poking him as he goes on his way.
Vilma and Saul talk divorce, Ahole's and Mini's that is. Vilma says that Mini only married Ahole for the money and that she has no scruples. Saul also tells Vilma that Ahole isn't that great a person either, he lies and is dishonest. Vilma wishes him luck and Saul so isn't happy.
Lupe and MA have a little secret meet and she tells him Ahole now knows the truth about Emi being his son. MA knows, he heard all. She cries and is worried for the RPs. Lupw and MA don't want Ahole to find out the RPs are living there.
Nepo comes to the Fonda and he is loaded for bear. He is calling for Lupe and sees those roses and his flower/fruit arrangement. Both MA and Lupe say Nepo's name at the same time.
Tizoc's band is playing at the club and it's that same song "Amor de Microbus" and Frida and Mau really like it and Tato is digusted, but his BFF with the plastic baggie drink with the straw is into it too. After the set is over, Frida and Tizoc are going home when Tizoc calls for a taxi but Frida wants to take the microbus, which they finally get on and Tizoc steals a kiss from Frida when the bus slams on it's brakes.
Nepo starts with the 3rd degree. He asks Lupe who sent her those flowers, 'fess up already! Lupe doesn't have to tell him she says, cause he has no right to ask and here come Don Chuy and Ahole. So Nepo now wants an explanation of why Ahole sent flowers to his novia, Lupe? Ahole is looking down on Nepo but calls him intelligent. Lupe wants Ahole to go, but he still wants to talk to her. Perla calls and tells Lupe that she picked Emi up from school. Lupe tells her to take her time bringing him back, but in a round about way, cause Ahole is still there. Lupe gives Ahole back those flowers and the gifts he brought for her and Emi. She takes him outside where his car is, and Perla and Emi are coming so Lupe signs to them to go into the Fonda the back way, cause Ahole has his back to them. They go. Ahole tells Lupe he wants to support Emi going forward with school, maybe a nicer place, he has the lana for that. Lupe tells him no. Ahole says this is a poor way to bring up Emi. He apolgizes to Lupe and he wants some time to get to know Emi, he's lost a lot of time. Lupe needs time to think about it. He gives her his card and she gives him her cell number. He thanks her and assures her he is a different guy than he was before.
Since Ahole is gone, Nepo is yelling for MA. He wants to have a word, or two, or a whole convo! After looking around Nepo finds MA and gives him hell for not telling Nepo about this Ahole guy and now he wants MA to Suelta La Sopa (Spill the Soup) give up the gossip.
Mini is on her bed at home looking over those papers she gave to Saul. Islea, along with poor Ayuki, is toting bags and bags of stuff that Isela bought. She got Mini a "table", er a tablet. Mini tells Isela what Saul told her about those papers and to top it off Mini tells Isela that Ahole is richer than Bill Gates. Isela wants to know who this "Bill Gay" is! Mini corrects her but Islea still isn't getting that part. Nevertheless, even though she doesn't get Bill Gates' name right, she does get the concept of the lana, and is pithed that Ahole didn't fork over more for her Penthouse remodel. Mini is wanting to check that USB out again.
After Lupe comes back in, Perla is going to take Emi to Guendy's and Don Chuy tells Lupe that Nepo is conversing with MA.
AS, Leo and Mati are still waiting in the Penthouse and Leo is getting cabin fever, even though he hasn't really been up there that long. He goes and AS follows leaving Da Vinci with Mati.
Nepo is still giving MA hell and Lupe comes in. She has heard what he said and she's pithed. He's pithed cause he wanted to know who sent her those flowers and she wouldn't tell him. Lupe finally tells him that Ahole really didn't come for her sake but for Emi's. You see, Ahole is Emi's Papa. Shut the front door Irene, Nepo is gobsmacked as is AS who is spying on them.

Madelaine, what a pleasant way to start the day with your very fine recap. The earworm is absolutely perfect. I also love your "knocky, knocky". Very funny.
Anyway, they got a commercial in last night. Lupita was mopping the floor with Pinol. MA sniffs it, likes it and adds more to the bucket. Jaime Camil is a spokesman for Pinol cleaning products.
Nepo still hasn't gotten the message that Lupita doesn't want him (ugh!) but his presence did hasten the departure of Alejo.
I loved:
Vilma sitting on Alejo's ( Don Juan, Casanova's) desk showing a whole lot of leg with her slit zipped open.
Don Chuy's reception of Alejo refusing to shake his hand, saying he had no "gusto" in meeting him, causing Alejo pain pushing him to the bathroom.
The schtick with Minerva always correcting Isela's pronunciation. This time the word was "tablet."
Funny how Frida doesn't call Tizoc a "naco" anymore but he repeatedly still calls her a "pipirisnais" or a "fresa" (both meaning stuck up girl).
Great episode.

and that earworm is so perfect, Mads!! if i had to find a word that describes A-hole, 'vain' would certainly be in the race.

Tizoc and Frida are so cute. I liked that the other guys except poTato-head liked the music. Tato is such an insecure doofus. It cracks me up when he tries to stare down Tizoc in a threatening manner and everyone knows Tizoc could beat the snot out of him without even trying.
Tizoc does still call Frida "jipirisnais" but it seems like a much more affectionate nickname these days. It seems like it's wordplay on "pipirisnais" (rich fancy-pants) but I'm not sure I totally get the "jipi" part. Is he saying Frida is like a hippy because she likes to hang with the proletariat? Or is he saying she's hyper-pipirisnais, super richie rich girl? No idea. But it's funny.
Lupe's frustration was so palpable when Nepo still.didn't.get.it. that they aren't together anymore. I think when she's married to MA and they have children together, Nepo will still be sending her flowers and insisting that they are novios.
I snorted when Ahole finally kinda noticed Vilma's weird attempt at seduction (not that he seemed to read it as seduction, just that she was being weird) and muttered that she must be "en sus días". Though I agree that a woman would HAVE to have some sort of severe hormonal disturbance to want to get with him!
Tizoc and Frida are so cute. I liked that the other guys except poTato-head liked the music. Tato is such an insecure doofus. It cracks me up when he tries to stare down Tizoc in a threatening manner and everyone knows Tizoc could beat the snot out of him without even trying.
Tizoc does still call Frida "jipirisnais" but it seems like a much more affectionate nickname these days. It seems like it's wordplay on "pipirisnais" (rich fancy-pants) but I'm not sure I totally get the "jipi" part. Is he saying Frida is like a hippy because she likes to hang with the proletariat? Or is he saying she's hyper-pipirisnais, super richie rich girl? No idea. But it's funny.

Nepo is so deeply in denial, I think he could walk in on Lupe and MA sucking face and be totally convinced one of them needed to be resuscitated. If he walked in on them in bed nekkid, he'd probably think they were just staying warm while their clothes dried. Then he'd ask Lupe out to dinner.

I think the "jipi" refers to Frida's affectations as a pseudo-60s-style pseudo-marxist pseudo-flower-child/hippie who rejects materialism in theory but not in practice, and wouldn't be caught dead living in a commune, or in an abandoned house where she'd have to use an old coffee can for a toilet, etc.
(I didn't mean for that to sound so snide. I know her heart is in the right place, but I also know that she's somewhat competitive. I think she was motivated as much by the wish to impress/outdo her friends as she was by a sincere desire to do good things.)
I agree with you. I think Frida was, as Minerva says, an anarco-fashion, more into the drama and the posing and the cool factor than really altruistic. She is slowly shifting, though, after experiencing the other side of the tracks firsthand and not as a hobby. I liked how, when Tizoc was going to get a taxi and she said they should take the bus to save money, he teased her for starting to get the hang of doing things like the poor people, and she said "I AM poor".

I keep hearing Hippynice when Tizoc talks to Frida. I too think he thinks of her as a 'hippy', wanting to fight for the little man, and she's cute, so you get hippynice. But the explanation that Julia gave is new to me, so that's probably more inline with where they are going.
Now that Saul and Vilma are at odds, I can see them having a relationship in the future. A torrid, bodice ripping kind of one.
