Qué Pobres, Weds 4/9/14 (#67): After the Fire
- Macarena calls. AS suggests moving up the wedding another month (or having it in a month) and asks Mac to have her parents send them the money to set it up. Mac says her parents are still in Siberia and won't have access to their bank accounts. AS agrees to go ahead and plan the wedding now and wait for Mac's parents to pay her back. Leo is nervous about this, but AS is sure she knows what's she's doing.
Morning!
- AS pays Carmelita for the dresses. I don't know how much she pays or if it's enough, and she's very snotty about it, but she does pay her something.
- Chuy believes AS's explanation of the fire and blames Carmelita for shirking her commitment to take care of the house. Carmelita arrives at the house ready to give him hell. She can't believe he's taking AS's word over hers. In fact, he thinks she owes both him and AS an apology.
Carmelita is furious. Don't all the years she's devoted to caring for Chuy and his family count for anything? The fact is, she's loved him all this time. She's "dead" (hopelessly) in love with him. Chuy is stunned, confused, disbelieving; it never occurred to him. Carm realizes he doesn't feel the same way. She feels ridiculous and begs him not to tell Lupita about this. Chuy says if she feels ridiculous, how does she think he feels? (I don't care much about his feelings right now.) She quits and leaves. She returns home in tears, and she and Gwendy cry together and Gwen tries to persuade Carmelita to move on and make the most of her bachelorettehood and get a new job. Maybe even work at the salon for a while.
- Saul catches up with MA on the phone and is most amused to hear that Lupita is MA's novia now. But he's also checking his email while he's on the phone and discovers that another client is dumping him.
- MA gives Emiliano an early-morning swimming lesson, as promised. Lupita says they'll take the bus home, as they did when they were kids. Some of the passengers are holding turkeys or other poultry. One of the birds really likes MA's hair. Nepo calls (from his bed, sounding kind of groggy) offering to come get them, but Lupita refuses. He's in no condition. Nepo thinks this is more proof of her love for him; she's making the big sacrifice of taking the bus out of concern for his well-being. LOL. Okay, in my book this has now gone so far beyond sad and scary that it's funny again. At least for the moment.
- At breakfast, Vilma carelessly asks Ahole how the eggs are. Oops! Ahole is unhappy with Oyuki and Vilma hints that she herself is a good cook. She gloats that Saul's getting ruined. (Perhaps it doesn't occur to her that by getting his clients to leave him, she's maybe leaving him more time to help MA.) Last night Ahole wanted to burn Mini and Isela in their beds as they slept. Today he tells them he's cutting off their credit cards. (Their own, non-Ahole cards are already maxed out.)
Vilma gives Beto a phone which, "unlike you," she says, is smart. And has a camera and all that. Now he can take pictures as he follows Mini and Isela around.
- Frida is going to see someone named Mauricio (someone at school? the guy from the club last week, maybe?) about a business deal. She argues with Leo about his plan to marry for money. He insists that it doesn't make him a parasite, because he's in love with Maca. Suuuuure he is.
- Ahole gloats to Vilma... all the incriminating evidence is in his safe, and those two dingbats will never be able to open it. (FAMOUS LAST WORDS!)
- Vilma hasn't given up trying to find an alternate way for Ahole to secure the presidencia. She asks him to think back to all the amigas in his past. Is he sure he didn't make a varon with one of them?
Next time: Ahole remembers Lupita!

I hope at least you got to watch this one. It was good! So much love declared this epi. Loved the way MA told Saul that Lupe is his girlfriend and no string attached. Saul didn't quite look like he was buying it.
Also loved Carmelita telling Don Chuy exactly how she felt about him, as in she loves him! It's about time, but I knew he would blame her over the whole fire incident. I hope she really didn't quit her job either. But I think she did. Pobrecita! Guendy does encourage her, and speaking of Guendy, I just knew she fell for Nepo. Pobrecita is over the moon for him, and all Nepo yaps about is getting Lupe back.
I really liked Tizoc and Frida too, they are so very cute, especially when he touched her face with his hands as he was cleaning the stove right on her face and left smudges as they whistled at each other. There is a very big spark and connection there.
Also with Vilma and Ahole, although you'd have to smack
Ahole upside the head with something bigger than a nerf bat for him to finally get it. Vilma is the brains of that duo, and really I wish she would use the leverage she has. She set up all the accounts for this fraud. She ought to use that on the sly of course. Beto cracked me up with his new smart phone, he hasn't a clue how to use it.
I wonder what Mini and Isela will do now as far as getting proof. They are full of ideas but nothing done so far.
MA and Lupe on that bus going home from Chalma with that turkey right near MA's face, too funny.
I can't wait for tomorrow to see what Ahole is going to do with Vilma's idea. Hmmmmmmmmm.........
And now, to turn this into a Güendy Appreciation Post. How great is she? She was so sweet to Carmelita, and the conversation felt very real, as something a friend would say. Güendy is such a great friend. I love how much she looks out for those she loves. Nepo, you idiot, just look at this wonderful, loyal woman for a minute!
The promos are making me anxious!
Hmmmmm . . .again I say I think don Chuy is on to the Lupita MA romance. When he called he asked where MA was and Lupita said he was in his room she supposed and he said and you are in yours, right? He had a sort of concerned look on his face.
Now how could someone so perceptive be such a dolt in his own life with Carmelita? His inability to see things from her point of view in the dispute with AS was so frustrating and his reaction to her admission of being in love with him was just as insensitive. He reminded me so much of Nepo. I am glad Carmelita quit. Then there is poor Guendy with Nepo the other dolt who is still saving himself for a woman who doesn't want him. Yikes!
I loved:
MA traveling on the bus with the turkeys. Nothing like being on buses with livestock!
Minerva getting in a good insult calling Vilma Alejo's "asistonta" rather than "asistente".
Da Vinci in his little brown outfit.
MA telling Saul that Lupita is his novia.
AS pushing up the wedding date with Leo and Maca one more time even though Maca's parents are in Siberia and cannot send her the necessary funds. AS always has something up her sleeve.
Well, with Vilma's idea to look for a male heir for Alejo among his former lovers, I think we know where this is headed.
Jarifa
I don't know if Chuy is onto the romance or not. Or maybe I'm unwilling to give him any credit after her was so clueless about Carmela.
I know we're in a "new phase" (nueva etapa) of the TN, but right now I feel a little lost as to what we should be in suspense about. A lot of things will have to happen eventually, but I can't anticipate whatever's just around the corner.
I've gotten home so late the last few evenings that this is the only show I've seen the most of (other than the Avenida Brasil epis I stay up way too late watching). I sure was glad that I got to see Carm tell Chuy the truth, AND tell him off. You go, Carmelita!
Now that Lupita and MA are officially a couple, there are a few big threats to their relationship:
1) The truth about the Million $ clause for the house, that MA has not revealed to Lupita.
2) The truth about who stole the money, which means the Menchacas have to redouble their efforts to pay the RPs and Nepo back-- which MA still hasn't revealed to Lupe. He needs to come clean, ya!
I'm glad Lupe is being so reasonable about MA seeing Mini. Will MA be reasonable when Alejo comes sniffing around Lupe to find out if any of his swimmers produced an heir?
When Ahole focuses on the Menchacas, MA will have to stay away, and the RPs may even have to live somewhere else for a while.
Nepo is going to be very curious about all this too, and they will probably have to bring him in on the secret.
Argh, the whole thing sounds like a nightmare! And I say... bring it on!!
I was happy to have a Maca sighting.
Carmelita's declaration of her love to Chucho was heartbreaking. She is such a sweetheart. I'm sure he is basically a good man but I wish he would open his eyes to see what he could have with her.
As far as I'm concerned this show can continue to drag and dawdle as long as it keeps us supplied with the great interpersonal and entertaining scenes and clever dialogue. That little scene between Frida and Tizoc was precious.
Little Da Vinci seemed so content lying on Leo there in the bed and then, bless his heart, he had to scamper away when Leo rolled over paying no attention to him. That little brown hoodie is my favorite of his outfits.
And then there was Güendy. Be still my heart.
Carlos
Chuy might be a bit dense, but if Carmelita gives him some time, he might really begin missing her. Not to mention, he might have to start waiting on AS himself.
